This line says so much about Diamant's relationship with his father

"Was I a good son? I should've asked you that sooner. You instilled in me pride and strength. But most importantly... you gave me your love. I should've told you what that meant."

Remember that they are Brodian royalty. Strength and pride are the core values of Brodia that they are expected to live up to. Morion teaching Diamant these virtues are part of his responsibilities as king

However, in this moment, Diamant specifically lists receiving love as more important than both of these virtues

While Morion had to train Diamant as a king and his heir, Diamant's comment heavily implies that Morion also made the effort to bond with him as a father and son. There's a distinct difference between raising a prince and a son. A prince needs a lot of training and education before they can live up to the burden of the throne. A son just needs parental love

A lot of their relationship involved Morion preparing Diamant to be a king, but it's also clear that a good part of it was just being a dad

Normally, "Was I a good son?" would mean that Diamant doubts if he was good enough for his dad's expectations, but the added context of him knowing that Morion always loved him and the regret of not openly saying how important that was for him re-contextualizes the question as wondering if he's still a good son for not reciprocating the love he received

It's really interesting that Diamant directly states that he's ready to carry on Brodia's legacy but regrets not telling Morion how much he appreciated him as a father

Last push for CYL (Choose Your Lyons)!

My ideal Brave Lyon would be an armoured staff unit: the movement type of his father combined with one of his most significant motivations (helping/healing).

I took some inspiration from Vigarde's design but turned the armour pieces into clothing in an attempt to show what an uncorrupted Lyon might be about; I also tried to call back a bit to the Summoner battle sprite as his class also shares the ability to Summon (and since we have player-controlled Summoners in FE8, this ability might not always be inextricably linked to evil?)

I've been thinking about what Brave Lyon's gameplay niche might be since my first CYL in 2023, and my initial idea was that he would be able to 'resurrect' a chosen ally once per map, which I thought would be too powerful at the time (then all the Drive Miracle stuff happened lol). Now we have Styles, another fun idea might be a Summoning Style to create 1HP Phantoms. Lastly, since Duo Lyon is now a thing, a Brave Lyon who has transcended needing to end people's actions could 'dance' any ally he heals once per turn.

Looking forward to redrawing this next year! Consider casting just one vote for Lyon so he doesn't get obliterated by Fomortiis this CYL, but otherwise I wish good luck to your candidate of choice!

since hero's is about to start it's Choose your Legends voting again, I think it would be REALLY funny if Loki came into play this year as a host and made it so the bottom 4 voted units are the ones who get brave alts. Just FUCK with people to go "No-no don't vote for my blorbo!" but in the end it still does the top 4 like every other year and Loki was just gas lighting EVERYONE
