Charlie Emily & Elizabeth Afton, rivals to tragic lost friends
Dwight Fairfield & Meg Thomas, close friends
Dwight Fairfield x Evan MacMillan/The Trapper, enemies to lovers
Dwight Fairfield & Nicholas "Nick" Andros, buddies?
Dwight Fairfield x Gerry Keay, look I thonk goth x nerd is a underated trope and I feel like Gerry would have a lot of respect for Dwight and Dwight could make him open up in ways he otherwise won't
Entity & Danny Johnson, toxic mentorship
Entity & Ji-Woon, toxic 'fan'
Entity & Adiris, her god
Entity & Dwight, string enemyship
Entity & Élodie, she will destroy everything including herself to destroy Entity, Entity is probably like "whatevs"
Entity v Baby Doll, enemies like how Elmer Fudd & Bugs Bunny are
Frank Morrison x Juile, toxic lovers, perhaps growing together
Frank Morrison x/&/+ Joey, Frank is a bad influence that Joey can't help but try to stand behind & help
Frank Morrison & Danny Johnson, Danny sees some of himself in Frank and tries to mentor him/give advice
Frank Morrison x/& my oc Ricky, Ricky was a popular jock with a murderous sister, he likes to be annoying and toy with killers especially as he has a condition that doesn't allow him to feel fear, he does have a cruel & rebellious side but in life outside the fog was able to keep a good rep, perhaps Frank would bring out this darker side
Glamrock Bonnie & Roxanne Wolf, tragic friends
Jake Park x Dwight, Outdoorsy x Nerd is a good trope, along with 'emotionless' x 'emotional'
Jake Park x Evan MacMillan/The Trapper, enemies to lovers with a flavor of seeing yourself in the other
Jake Park x/& Ji-Woon, I just think them interacting would be very funny
Jake Park & Meg, besties, work out together, run around together
Jeremy Fitzgerald x Michael, they make me soft your honor, and I think Michael would do well to have someone soft in his life
Joey Comeau (assumeing he's Legion's Joey) + Juile, tbh I see a lot of the Legion as qpr with each other, they mean the world to each other (that's what the + means, queer platonic relationships. Taken from ao3)
Joey Comeau & Ricky, Ricky can be a whole new type of bad influence on Joey
Joey Comeau & my oc Bunny (Ricky's sister), she doesn't have many friends and would enjoy havjng a friend who can be kind but also understands her dark impulses
Kate Denson v Ji-Woon, I wanna see the musicians to fight
Kate Denson & Nicholas "Nick" Andros, Nick might not be able to hear but he does have a deep appreciation for a musicians soul
Mikaela Reid x Élodie, witch x a studier of the occult, what more can I say? I also feel like they'd bring some interesting differences in personality
Mikaela Reid x Haddie, I am predictable
Mikaela Reid & Tarhos Kovács/The Knight, I feel like she could bring some interesting conflict to his understanding of the world as she is both kind and powerful & gifted, I also feel like it's funny & interesting for someone with old ideas of magic to interact with Mikaela
Mikaela Reid &/x Adiris, I feel like they could be interesting foils
Mikaela Reid &/x Lisa Sherwood/The Hag, same as above but moreso
& more but I ran out of steam

Bob Dylan - Friends Will Arrive, Friends Will Disappear (Volume 1): Never Ending Tour Guests 1988-1998
Something special for you today — more NET madness. James Adams (follow him!) has dug into the weird/wonderful guest spots from the first decade of Dylan’s Never Ending Tour. Read on, and click the link above to listen ...
The thirtieth year of Bob Dylan’s Never Ending Tour (NET) just ended with a week of shows at New York’s Beacon Theatre and an encore performance that reopened Philadelphia’s Metropolitan Opera House. Thirty years! Let’s pause to recognize the enormity of that accomplishment. Since 7 June 1988, Dylan has played 2,987 shows. That’s about 500 more than the Grateful Dead played during their thirty trips around the sun. Even so, those figures ignore roughly half of Dylan’s career and what history will remember as his most important and influential years. Remember, Dylan was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame before the NET even started.
Some employers will give you a nice retirement package after thirty years. Not that Dylan has shown any signs of quitting or even slowing down. While attending a short run of shows in early November, I kept catching myself staring at Dylan’s boots tapping under his piano. It was ceaseless and driven by that same restless bouncing knee that you see in DONT LOOK BACK. Dylan was just keeping time with his band, but it was steady and hypnotizing, like a metronome driving everything forward: this song, the next one, this show, the next one, this tour, the next one. Onward.
Of course, the current version of the NET doesn’t much resemble the one that launched when Ronald Reagan was president. Things have changed, as Dylan has pointed out at the beginning of his shows for the last several years.
One thing Dylan did more often in the early NET was invite special guests onstage to perform. It didn’t happen at every show, or even every leg of the tour, but it happened often enough that it became a nightly possibility. In his fantastic NET chronicle “One More Night,” author Andrew Muir remembers being accosted at Dylan’s 19 October 1994 show at the Roseland Ballroom by a Deadhead excitedly speculating that Jerry Garcia would appear as a guest performer. That Deadhead should have known that Garcia was, at that very moment, playing with the Grateful Dead at Madison Square Garden. But the rumor was in the air, and it had happened before, and anything is possible. Right? It must have felt that way.
That possibility is what this homegrown mix celebrates: the unpredictable excitement of guest appearances during the first decade of Dylan’s NET. The collection is organized chronologically. By no means is it comprehensive. You could create an interesting survey of Dylan performing only “I Shall Be Released” with NET guests and it would feature the likes of Elvis Costello, Chrissie Hynde, Carole King, Jewel, Cheryl Crow, Stevie Nicks, and Van Morrison. Hell, you could make a whole disc of just Van Morrison guest appearances, although some (“One Irish Rover” from 12 June 1993 comes to mind) make you wonder what everyone involved was thinking (and drinking).
There’s a musical geography to these guest appearances that merits some attention. Part of it is simple proximity: Ronnie Hawkins in Toronto, Jo-El Sonnier in New Orleans, Van Morrison in Belfast, Carl Perkins in Tennessee—Dylan almost certainly linked up with those artists because he was in town and they lived nearby. But those musicians, and others featured on this collection, also earned a musical identity that is linked closely to a specific place on this earth. When Dylan passed through Austin, Texas he was in the land of Doug Sahm and Charlie Sexton. So, Dylan’s invitation to those artists to perform with him was, in a sense, an acknowledgement of their importance and contribution to the local music scene. Sometimes these performances feel like meetings of diplomats who represent countries with musical borders. Dylan was in town and acknowledging the local leadership.
This collection is not a proper survey of the first decade of the NET but it does capture the breezy rawness of those years. Like the shows and the tours these selections are taken from, this collection has moments of ramshackle noise right alongside passages of breathtaking beauty. Listening along, you get the feeling that anything could happen. Who knows what song they’ll play next? It might be transcendent. It could be a loud and lurching disaster. The varied quality of the audience tapes adds to that unpredictability. And hey, just about anybody could emerge from the wings and grab a spot by the microphone, or a guitar, and lend a hand during this next number.
Thanks to: Tyler Wilcox and the tapers responsible for preserving these performances.

Home Is Where The Music Is (1972)
Tumblr media
Home Is Where The Music Is by Hugh Masekela
Drop the needle on certain records and you’re in their world. So enfolding, so sensually sure in their touch, one sinks into their hands willing and wonderfully split open, tenderized enough to let the music mash us into the crucible that birthed these sounds. South African brass master Hugh Masekela creates this sort of gloriously enveloping world on this double album recorded during a chilly January in London at Island Studios 50 years ago this month.
Both Masakela and co-producer/composer Caiphus Semenya were far from their South African home but the country lives inside them, reflected in the echoes of homeland melodies and underlying melancholy. So much is said without uttering a word here, the feelings clear as any description on a page. Yes, this is definitely jazz but also a sound unconstrained by that label.  Home Is Where The Music Is conjures a mobile abode built by thoughtful craftsmen - Masekela (trumpet), Larry Willis (acoustic & electric piano), Dudu Pukwana (alto saxophone), Eddie Gomez (bass), and Makhaya Ntshoko (drums) - a true listening ensemble where the care and thought of one person’s contribution is built upon, commented on, and woven into the epitome of the axiom about the whole being greater than its parts.
Home Is Where The Music Is shares a kindred spirit with other long-players created in exile in London, namely Gilberto Gil’s 1971 issued Gilberto Gil (Nega) and Caetano Veloso’s 1971 self-titled third LP - his only album besides 2004′s covers set A Foreign Sound to be almost entirely in English - all albums marbled with yearning, a wistful strand woven into even the brightest passages.
The first two tracks, “Part Of A Whole” and “Minawa,” are so rich and absorbing to be reason enough to celebrate this LP but so much follows, a rainbow of skills and textures beyond even the lush hues of the opening salvo. The emotional heft, control, and intelligent attack of Masekela’s trumpet and Pukwana’s saxophone are the driving forces but the sheer beauty and cinematic scope of Larry Willis’ piano work cannot be overstated. The opening of “Inner Crisis” is ivory delicacy that bursts into electric growl dueling with massed horns that surely inspired Donald Fagen & Walter Becker in their dorm rooms. The progression into “Blues For Huey” scatters some DNA found modern jazz-expansionists like Lettuce and Karl Denson’s Tiny Universe, groove married to sharp, crisply drawn lines, technical daring-do with sashaying hips.
“Huey” is a showcase for drummer Makhaya Ntshoko, as conversational a stick man as they come, that keeps it interesting in the spotlight while edging in and out of the melody with his bandmates. It’s a hell of a ride that concludes with Masekela saying, “Call an ambulance!” followed by joyful laughter.
The middle section of “Maseru” swings like a late night at the Plugged Nickel, bop moderne that erupts into tender piano textures and flying-as-one group interplay, twinned brass that dissolves into New Orleans blues, a heady Masekela composition that cries out for inclusion in the contemporary canon. “Nomali” welcomes in waltzing breezes, a perfect counterpoint to “Huey”’s fire and beat, a charming stroll led by Willis’ saucy acoustic piano. Resonant, patient electric piano brings in “Maesha” - pondering music with a heartbeat rhythm and warm arms to safely breathe inside and consider whatever the mind tosses up. The soaring horns gives it the feel of a spiritual but one suited to Hair. The finale, “Ingoo Pow-Pow (Children’s Song),” find Semenya, the composer of half the pieces on Home Is Where The Music Is, reworking a South African kid’s tune in the same wild way the Art Ensemble or Charlie Haden skillfully expose the potential in seemingly simple forms. It’s the most expressly African track here primarily because of the vocal chants but the inner workings recall Pharoah Sanders and Albert Ayler in the same years - not names normally associated with chart-topper Masekela, whose fierce, unruly trumpet puts a sharp period on the proceedings. Step 3: Networking Hacks
Tumblr media
Every school has its in-crowd - its cliques - and if we’re not in them, we usually hate them. But what I’m going to tell you about is a different kind of clique. No gym rats or mean girls here. It’s a crowd at the business school that’s in-the-know, and if you want to survive as a marketing student, you need to get in the loop.
In order to let you in on these networking hacks, I need to tell you how I learned them during two back-to-back weeks of my Freshman year. In my first semester at USU, I joined the Huntsman Marketing Association. I was excited to get involved, but I didn’t really know what I would be doing as a new club member. A short while into the semester, I received an email inviting me and my fellow club members to a private luncheon with a visiting alumnus, Charlie Denson.  I didn’t know much about him, but I decided to go for a free lunch. When I got to the 9th floor of the business building, I and six other students were introduced to Charlie, the former President of Nike Brand. Hold up. What? The former President of Nike Brand!? We sat down to have lunch and I was so stunned I couldn’t think of questions to ask him. I listened in awe as he described the competitive landscape between Nike, Under Armour, and Reebok. He talked about the best campaigns he had run over the years – legendary campaigns. I finally had the courage to ask a simple question about his work environment, and his answer will be burned in my mind forever. I walked out of that luncheon and could hardly keep my jaw from dragging on the floor. What kind of an experience did I just get as a brand new freshman marketing student? It was unbeatable.
I was so buzzed from that meeting with Charlie Denson that I decided I would latch on to any opportunity to visit with alumni that I could. The next Monday I received the business school’s weekly email and saw a small announcement at the very bottom about a “leadership career trip” across the Wasatch Front that Friday. The description was very vague but mentioned visiting key supporters of the Huntsman school that demonstrated exemplary leadership in their fields. I thought that sounded like a worthwhile opportunity, so I signed up and paid the $20 fee to attend.
On Friday morning I dressed my best, and I’m glad I did. I was greeted at the carpool station by Dean Anderson. I didn’t know him very well, but I figured this must be a big deal if he was the driver for this career trip.  Once again, there were only six other students and me. We spent the drive down talking about the visits we would make and preparing to ask intelligent questions. Our first stop was to the executive offices at Maverick in downtown Salt Lake. We went right to the top floor of the high rise where we met in the boardroom with the two founders of FJ Management, the parent company of Maverick, Flying J, Crystal Inn, and several other companies. I was blown away by the stories they told of founding this enterprise. I could have asked questions for days, but we had to wrap it up so we could make it to the Huntsman Cancer Institute in time for our next appointment.  You can probably guess who our next visit was with. That’s right, the man of the decade. The namesake of our school, Jon Huntsman himself. His wisdom and presence were astounding, and I just couldn’t believe I was in such an intimate setting with him and only a few other students in a small conference room. We then jumped down to Health Equity to visit the CEO of a billion dollar company that combines health care with investments to serve a tidal-wave of a growing market. And to top off the day, we made one final call on the largest enterprise ever founded in Utah, the Larry H. Miller group of companies.  When we arrived at Miller Tower we again flew straight up to the top floor. There were nine of us between the faculty and students and the receptionist politely sat us in a fully-windowed conference room looking over the Salt Lake Valley. In a matter of minutes, in walked nine men and women greeting us with smiles and warm handshakes. They introduced themselves as the CEO’s and Presidents of all the Larry H Miller companies. There was the Megaplex theater chain CEO, the LHM car dealership president, the financial services CEO, and even the president of the Utah Jazz! I couldn’t think about anything besides what the value of their time must have been.  Here we had nine executives of a multi-billion dollar corporation that took an hour and a half of their day to talk with us as students. They gave me their business cards. I’m not kidding. I still have them.
Those back-to-back experiences still rank as some of my most inspiring learning opportunities at USU. I fell into those two, but I learned very quickly that these kinds of things happen all the time. If you are in the loop, you will get a chance to be involved in them over and over again. Since those experiences, I’ve been on six additional career trips with destinations including San Francisco and London. I have attended dozens of luncheons with visiting alumni, and I even made a few key connections that lead to an internship with a Fortune 500 company. So for you to have the same experience, here are my top three networking hacks at the Huntsman School. 1. Focused Friday Luncheons 2. Friday Career Trips 3. Focused Friday Career Workshops
Tumblr media
Every Friday the Huntsman school hosts incredible alumni and friends of the university for Focused Friday. These people are legends. I’m talking professionals like Jim Quigley, former CEO of Deloitte, or Steve Milovich, Vice President of HR for Disney. First off, it’s a great opportunity to listen to them speak. But they are always here over lunchtime, and these people have got to eat. Here it comes – networking hack number one: register for the luncheon with visiting Focused Friday speakers! Do you ever read the This Week at Huntsman emails? At the very bottom, there is an entire section of registration links for upcoming events, and there is almost always a registration to eat lunch with upcoming Focused Friday speakers.
What if you can’t get to the lunch with the main speaker? Here’s a second great hack for you: go to the career development workshops in the mornings and afternoons on Friday. Each week there are well-prepared workshops focused on career development. This may seem like a drag, but there are two important things about these workshops.  First, they are almost always taught by visiting alumni, aka industry professionals. These are reps from big-name companies like OC Tanner, Adobe, Goldman Sachs, and Icon Health and Fitness. Second, there are almost always no students there. If you go, you will have guaranteed face time with the speakers. I have made many valuable connections after these workshops and learned a lot about what I do and don’t want to do in my career from people who do it every day.
So I guess I could summarize this week’s tip in one key piece of advice – Friday is game day. When the school decided to take classes off of Friday, they replaced them with rich opportunities. They’re not associated with a grade, but they are associated with a successful career. Don’t waste your Fridays working a ten dollar an hour job or sleeping in or getting caught up on homework. Get in the game.
Let me know about any other networking hacks you have in the comments, I can’t wait to hear them!
