Peter Brown & Tommy Nutter
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Peter Brown first spied Tommy Nutter in 1967, at a dinner party thrown by Brian Epstein in his Georgian town house on Chapel Street... It was a warm evening, summer, June or July. An intimate sit-down for a handful of people. Peter thought Tommy was remarkably cute, though Tommy, perhaps dazed by his surroundings and the famous host, gave no indication of even noticing Peter.
Afterwards, Brian had a conversaion with Peter in which he made some 'approving comments' about their young guest. It was not that Brian Epstein had any interest in Tommy for himself; despite his stiff-collar demeanour, he preferred rough trade to 'gay boys'. But he knew what Peter liked, and was, in that regard, always encouraging.
-
(The day after Brian Epstein's death)
The next day, [Peter] was standing in Brian's drawing room, looking through a window onto a street that had just been swept through by paparazzi, like a flash flood. He had already shared the news with the Beatles, who were still on their retreat in Wales with the Maharishi Mahesh Yogi. Peter was numb, but starting to realise that he would be primary witness at the inevitable inquest. And that the enormous responsibility of running the Beatles' office would now fall squarely on his shoulders.
At that moment, the telephone rang. Peter walked across and picked it up.
'How are you?' asked Tommy Nutter, who had somehow acquired Brian's private number.
'Awful,' Peter said, 'Really awful.'
So the young man from the summer dinner party invited himself over for company and comfort.
-
On a Friday in August, Peter was sitting at his desk wrapping up some work when Paul McCartney called him on the telephone. For the previous few days, the Beatles had been working on a new single, an experimental track that had caused tension in the group - McCartney versus Harrison over guitar riffs - and raised the concern of their record producer, George Martin, who'd suggested it might be too long for radio play. Now it was nearly completed, and Paul asked Peter to come round for a first listen.
(Paul and John have Peter listen to 'Hey Jude', which he is impressed by and loves.)
Paul and John told Peter they wanted to go out and celebrate. But Peter demurred; he was to drive out to the country with Tommy for the weekend. Paul told him to call Tommy and bring him along; they had all met him by now, and there was no problem with Peter having a boyfriend.
When Peter called him using the studio payphone, Tommy refused, wilfully non-compliant. He didn't want to go out and celebrate in Soho. It took Paul to snatch the reciever out of Peter's hand and beg him to 'come hear this' before he finally surrended.
Tommy arrived at Trident and was installed in the armchair, told to prepare himself. The song was cued for a second play. As he then listened for the full seven minutes and eleven seconds, Paul and John watched him closely, trying to gauge his reaction.
After it was finished, Tommy remained impassive, unreadable. There was a long pause.
He told them he didn't like it.
The Beatles were 'crestfallen', Peter recalls, until they were informed this was Tommy's idea of a droll joke. Indeed, Tommy would eventually admit that 'Hey Jude' was 'the most incredible song... because we'd never heard anything like that before'. What impressed him was not so much its groundbreaking form, though, as how uncalculated it seemed. In Tommy's view, the Beatles hadn't set out to break the mould; they'd just wanted to express themselves. And expressing themselves - honestly expressing themselves - meant making the song in a way that happened, by the by, to be groundbreaking. 'It just came from within them,' he later said admiringly. 'That's what they wanted to do and they did it properly.'

A good day’s work and a celebration dinner
Tuesday 19th September
Breakfast here has different food on offer.  Mo started the day with liver and plantain....
Tumblr media
Our conference day began with lingering anxiety over the technology, then a breath of relief.
Our good friends Mahesh and Sujeet - both professors at Chester University and Cheshire & Wirral Partnership where I used to work - had kindly agreed to give us some teaching on Intellectual Disability and Neurodevelopmental Disorder. ID and NDD! This meant them getting up rather early to allow for the time difference between our two countries, and both ends needing faultless technology to make it happen, despite it being a two hour session over the internet.
Tumblr media
Learning from the professors.
ID and NDD are common around the world, and probably neglected more than any other mental health condition.
Happily all went well, and we had a very comprehensive learning session with two international experts. At one point Mahesh was helping us to think about the difficulty some people with NDD have in understanding what others are saying. His illustration was to talk to our students in a foreign language – his native language from a remote part of India, which no one had even heard of. The students were quite entertained as they listened; he turned out to be asking them what they’d had for breakfast.
Our session on epilepsy later in the morning was one of joint learning.
I challenged the students to discuss how we can do better – rather than just running huge clinics with a minute or two for each patient to review medication and little more, can we do better to help this person in their situation? How are their families managing the stigma? How much do community leaders know? How could we help to change attitudes amongst teachers, employers and the general public? How can we prevent epilepsy from even happening?
Meanwhile I learnt a whole lot more about traditional knowledge of epilepsy and its effects, and the perpetuation of the stigma surrounding the disease.
In April Uganda hosted a national conference on epilepsy. I didn’t know that until I was well on the way thinking about our teaching session! There are 770,000 individuals living with epilepsy in Uganda. Many others are not known to services. There are very few neurologists in the country (hence mental health teams manage people with the condition), and very limited access to investigations such as EEG, which would be routine in the UK.
Children with epilepsy are often denied education. If they do go to school they are frequently traumatised by the way they are treated – bullied, shamed and stigmatised. Many drop out. Getting employment is a big challenge, and if the seizures are not well controlled, then usually that means dismissal. On our last visit here we met a teacher and her daughter, both of whom have epilepsy. They have been unable to get work. You don’t have to look far to begin to understand some of the causes of poverty in a country like Uganda.
Hugh and Avril arrived just before lunch. It was good to see them and have a more complete team
Tumblr media
Supper being cooked outside.
Linda spent the afternoon helping our students to understand psychological ways of working with serious mental conditions like psychosis.
Tumblr media
Workshop Celebration Dinner and an important announcement
Our lovely nuns had prepared a special celebration dinner which as always included several different carbohydrates, and on this occasion, several proteins as well, including goat, chicken, and beef.  In our experience goat can sometimes be a bit chewy, but this was very well cooked. Avril had never had goat before but she really enjoyed it.
Tumblr media
They had also commissioned a beautiful cake:
Tumblr media
As the meal ended, Hugh (Chair of Jamie’s Fund) gave a moving resume of all that has been achieved in partnership over the last 10 years:
Working with 25 hospitals across Uganda
Running professional development workshops in mental health
Training of seven new Psych Clinical Officers who will lead services for the future at their facilities
Over 1000 general health workers trained in mental health knowledge and skills
Over 1000 Community Leaders sensitized on mental health
Provision of new equipment – motor cycles, lap tops etc
Tumblr media
He then made the difficult announcement that JF would be closing at the end of the year. As Hugh explained, we have not reached the decision easily. We promised that although the Fund would finish, our relationships would not. The trustees are all getting older as JF has been running for 10 years and the next generation of leaders has unfortunately not emerged. (Those of you on the JF supporters mailing list will receive the letter we have prepared in the near future, but  we felt it was important to tell those who are most affected here in Uganda first.)
Ewan and I are certainly likely to return from time to time to see our friends.
Our wonderful young people received the news quietly but with great grace and appreciation. They promised that they would continue the great work they had been doing, and would indeed continue community mental health service development.

Hi! Loved your response to my SSR knowledge questionnaire!
Also, could you rate every SSR Villain from all his movies out of 10, with reasons provided please?
Also also, thoughts on the upcoming SSR/Mahesh Babu movie? What's your theories on what the movie could be about given the limited plot details about it being an adventure movie inspired by the Indiana Jones movies?
haha thanks for another ask!
It's been a long time since I watched Student No. 1 so I can't really rate whatever obstacle in that movie
Simhadri - 3, from what I remember feeling, it was like the story was the villain. Villain wasn't villaining that much if ykwim
Sye - 7, I love dumb villains
Chatrapathi - 9, the villains in this are pretty much like colonisers which is what i love about this movie (among the other fabulous things about it). they're genuinely evil, they don't give a fuck about anyone but themselves and rule like an iron fist gripping a mound of sand
Vikramarkudu - 10, just for the oily curly hair that gives me my hair goals😍😍
Yamadonga - 2, again, villain wasn't villaining. the actual thug they hired wasn't even there for 20 minutes. Mahi's relatives can go get whipped (literally)
Magadheera - 9, he's so evil I love it. no tragic backstory, no psychosis story, he's just possessive (the lengths I go to defend tall men, sigh, fml) and an absolute asshole.
Maryada Ramanna - 1 (and only because I can't give it a 0). i get that family feud is the real villain but nope. NOPE. you ain't killing YOUR OWN FAMILY MEMBER because he's more humane than you. Also, I hate the hypocrisy in their we-can-only-kill-outside-the-house-because-house-blesses-family theory . Speaking like that, Veturi said "Jagamantha Kutumbam Naadi" (the world is my family) so what then huh Reddy gaaru?
Eega - 10 (and only because I can't give it 1000). by now you must have understand that I love villains who are unapologetically assholes. He's rich, and he wants to keep it that way. So he killed his best friend for money. So what? He was annoyingly right anyway, no use. Sudeep is the perfect maniac obsessed zillionaire that I would want to kill as a fly.
Bahubali The Beginning - 5, I kinda don't like amped up villains. Bijjala does good, but I draw the line at the Pandit making evil faces at thin air in the middle of celebrations. Bhalla isn't a villain in my opinion, he's a smol bean who is a rich dad's spoiled brat. Being evil and underappreciated is the only thing he knows my poor baby. (@juhiiiiii gets me on this topic, don't you agree akkay?)
Bahubali The Conclusion - 3, you know why honey. I desperately wanted to beg Rajamouli to read the books (at least the first one) to make him realize how ooc Sivagami was. But Bijjala is properly characterised I must say.
RRR - 5, I want a 3D British colonizer for once.
Also also, thoughts on the upcoming SSR/Mahesh Babu movie? What's your theories on what the movie could be about given the limited plot details about it being an adventure movie inspired by the Indiana Jones movies?
I don't make the mistake of creating expectations in my mind for SSR's movies before 2 months of the release. I did that for Bahubali 2 (as did the entire world right?) and for Maryada Ramanna, and Yamadonga. I honestly can't picture Mahesh Babu as anything but a preacher or a politician or a police officer. But let me just say this: the last time MB wore a cowboy hat on an adventure, it was either horrible box office numbers:
Tumblr media
(Movie: Takkari Donga)
or mindblowing box office numbers
Tumblr media
(Movie: Athadu)
thanks for the ask!

Celebrating India’s EV Journey
Today is World EV Day. The day is observed every year with special awareness campaigns being organized globally to educate people about the benefits of electric vehicles.
Tumblr media
While China is the world’s largest EV market, India is the second largest and most promising. Driven by incentives by the Centre and the states, the adoption of EVs is gaining momentum. India’s EV sector is attracting increasing investments in battery technology, charging infrastructure and product options. Some of the biggest brands in the EV space include Tata Nexon in cars, the Mahindra Treo in three-wheelers and Hero Electric and Ola in scooters. In addition, there are a whole lot of startups that are working on various aspects of the EV eco-system.
In this article, Autocar Professional takes you through India’s EV landscape with leaders in the segment commenting on sustainable mobility and a zero-emission future.
Meanwhile, a recent study by Castrol study has highlighted key insights on EV readiness for markets, carmakers, and consumers. Its global survey ‘Switching ON the rEVolution’ covering 10,000 consumers and 100 leaders from car manufacturers in 10 key global markets, including India suggests that 44 percent of consumers surveyed in India are considering an EV for their next vehicle purchase while 55 percent are still considering an ICE vehicle.
Shailesh Chandra, MD, Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles and Tata Passenger Electric Mobility
Tumblr media
World EV Day is indeed a special day for us, as we look back and reflect on our journey so far. We are proud to lead the EV market in India, with a lion’s share of 88 percent. As early entrants, we have shaped the market and seen it grow with Nexon EV and Tigor EV. We have over 40,000 Tata EVs plying on road. We have also established Tata UniEVerse, a one of its kind EV ecosystem, which is further propelling the EV adoption.
Santosh Iyer, VP-Sales & Marketing, Mercedes-Benz India
Tumblr media
Mercedes-Benz Indian has a very aggressive EV roadmap for the Indian market with three new luxury EVs. We pioneered luxury EVs in India with the EQC in 2020, which received good response from the early adopters in the luxury segment. EQC’s acceptability and market success set the ground for other brands to foray into the luxury EV segment.
Suman Mishra, Mahindra Electric Mobility
Tumblr media
We celebrate India’s electrification journey. At Mahindra Last Mile Mobility, we are committed to promoting sustainable motoring with zero emission products. I am confident that with our collective efforts, we can enable a green and smarter tomorrow for India.
Warren Harris, CEO, Tata Technologies
Tumblr media
Tata Technologies’ vision of Engineering a better world embodies our commitment to providing sustainable solutions especially in the rapidly growing Electric Vehicle Market. The transition to EV is also an opportunity and would also be synonymous with a move to connected vehicles enabled by ADAS and digital customer experience solutions. Tata Technologies offers end-to-end solutions for engineering, manufacturing support, and customer experience solutions for EVs globally. We have developed an elaborate EV ecosystem through alliances and partnerships across the world, including an alliance with MIH Consortium which enables us to leverage the EV ecosystem to deliver best value for our Customers.
Nagesh Basavanhalli, Executive Vice Chairman, Greaves Cotton
Tumblr media
Greaves Electric Mobility owned Ampere is one of the fastest growing electric two-wheeler brands in the Country while the company also operates/owns the rapidly growing e-rickshaw brand Ele (Bestway) and the Teja (MLR Auto) range of L5 category three wheelers. Together the portfolio offers a strong value proposition to electrifying the way people and goods move across our country.
Mahesh Babu, CEO, Switch Mobility India, COO, Switch Mobility
Tumblr media
To meet India’s global commitment to become Net Zero by 2070, we need to prioritize not just public transport, but public transport with zero tailpipe emissions. Electric buses are clearly the best and obvious solution to accelerate decarbonisation with increasing mass mobility. It is this imperative that guides us at Switch Mobility — to help India attain its ambitious Net Zero target by offering the society with smart, clean mass mobility solutions that are also technologically advanced, safe and comfortable for passengers. Our vision is to transform mass mobility across cities and highways, and bring about a clean revolution in the way people travel. I take the opportunity on World EV Day 2022 to invite partners and people who share the same vision to jointly achieve this critical transition.
Balbir Singh Dhillon, Head of Audi
We have installed 100+ chargers pan-India and 16 high-speed 50kW chargers across our dealerships located across strategic highways within the country. In line with our global plans to be all-electric by 2033, we are aiming to achieve about 15 percent of our India sales from EVs by 2025–2026. It’s time we start to care for the climate. I think the sooner we realise we are responsible for it, the better it is for all.

Exploring the Jyotirlingas in Maharashtra: A Spiritual Journey
Maharashtra, a land rich in cultural heritage and spirituality, is home to some of the most revered Jyotirlingas in India. Jyotirlingas are sacred shrines dedicated to Lord Shiva, where he is believed to have manifested as a divine pillar of light. These shrines hold immense religious significance and attract devotees from across the globe. In this article, we delve into the Jyotirlingas located in Maharashtra, their significance, and the experiences they offer.
The Importance of Jyotirlingas
According to Hindu mythology, there are 12 Jyotirlingas in India, and each represents a different manifestation of Lord Shiva. Worshiping these sacred shrines is believed to cleanse one's sins and bring divine blessings. Maharashtra is blessed with three Jyotirlingas—Trimbakeshwar, Bhimashankar, and Grishneshwar. These temples are not only spiritual destinations but also architectural marvels, showcasing intricate carvings and ancient artistry.
For more information please visit - Jyotirlinga in Maharashtra
1. Trimbakeshwar Jyotirlinga
Located in Nashik, Trimbakeshwar Jyotirlinga is one of the most prominent Shiva temples in India. Nestled near the Brahmagiri Hills, this temple is the source of the Godavari River, which holds immense religious importance.
Significance: The temple houses a unique Shiva Lingam featuring three faces representing Brahma, Vishnu, and Mahesh (Shiva). It symbolizes the cycle of creation, preservation, and destruction. Devotees flock here to perform rituals like the Narayan Nagbali and Kaal Sarp Dosh pujas.
Architecture: The temple’s architecture, built in black stone, is a masterpiece of the Hemadpanthi style. The sanctum sanctorum’s serene ambiance enhances the spiritual experience.
How to Reach: Trimbakeshwar is about 30 km from Nashik and well-connected by road and rail. The nearest airport is in Nashik.
2. Bhimashankar Jyotirlinga
Situated amidst the lush greenery of the Sahyadri Hills, Bhimashankar is a haven for nature lovers and spiritual seekers alike. This temple is a blend of spirituality and scenic beauty.
Significance: The Bhimashankar temple is associated with the legend of Lord Shiva slaying the demon Bhima. The Shiva Lingam here is said to radiate energy that protects devotees from evil forces.
Architecture: The Nagara-style architecture, with its intricate carvings and sculptures, reflects the artistic excellence of ancient India. The temple is surrounded by a wildlife sanctuary, making it a picturesque spot.
How to Reach: Bhimashankar is approximately 125 km from Pune and 223 km from Mumbai. It is accessible by road, and trekking options are available for adventure enthusiasts.
3. Grishneshwar Jyotirlinga
Grishneshwar, located near Ellora Caves in Aurangabad, is the twelfth and the smallest Jyotirlinga in India. Despite its modest size, it holds immense spiritual value.
Significance: Grishneshwar translates to "Lord of Compassion," and the temple is believed to fulfill the wishes of devotees who seek the blessings of Lord Shiva. The temple is closely linked to the Ellora Caves, adding to its historical importance.
Architecture: The temple's architecture is a testament to ancient craftsmanship, with its beautifully sculpted walls and a serene Nandi bull statue at the entrance.
How to Reach: Grishneshwar is about 30 km from Aurangabad and well-connected by road. The nearest airport is in Aurangabad.
Planning Your Spiritual Journey
To explore these Jyotirlingas, it is ideal to plan a well-structured itinerary. Start with Bhimashankar, proceed to Trimbakeshwar, and conclude with Grishneshwar. Along the way, you can visit nearby attractions like the Ellora Caves, Panchavati in Nashik, and the scenic Western Ghats.

[ad_1]   RevSportz Conclave (PC: File) There are 50 days to go for the third edition of the Trailblazers Conclave. And to think that India’s best athletes, able bodied and para, men and women, will all come together under one roof in Kolkata yet again has a sense of the unreal attached to it. And yet, it is true. From our 18-year-old world champion D Gukesh to the just-retired legend Ravichandran Ashwin, and India’s captain fantastic Harmanpreet Singh to the legendary Mary Kom and the lady on the comeback trail, Nikhat Zareen – the very best are all coming together for two-and-a-half days in March. Joining the newsmakers are titans like Abhinav Bindra, Pullela Gopichand, Viswanathan Anand, PR Sreejesh and Mahesh Bhupathi, which means the conclave will see a galaxy of Indian sporting legends together under one umbrella. And in Kolkata, you can’t not have Sourav and Saurav – Ganguly and Ghosal. With the Champions Trophy on at the time, Ganguly – who lifted it jointly with Sri Lanka in 2002 – could just be the one we desperately want to listen to. Day three, March 8, is understandably about women and women’s empowerment. You name them, and we will have them in Kolkata. From Mary Kom and Rani Rampal to Anju Bobby George, Nikhat and Tania Sachdev, there will be a stellar cast of women athletes interacting with each other. For the Latest Sports News: Click Here Panel with MC Mary Kom, Joshna Chinappa, Rani, Harmilan Bains and more (Image: Joy Sengupta for RevSportz) That’s just able-bodied sport. We will have the very best of Paralympic talent discussing what was our best Paralympics by a mile. From Yogesh Kathunia, Navdeep Singh, Manasi Joshi, Mona Agarwal, Rubina Francis and the peerless Suhas Yathiraj, we are determined to celebrate athletic achievement in its entirety. For the football fans, there is a special segment on Mohun Bagan versus East Bengal and how the derby can be marketed better. The one session I am particularly keen on is the one on Indian chess. With a revolution on in the sport, it is but obvious that we will celebrate it. And no one better than the man who made it all possible – Anand. He will be joined by Dibyendu Barua and Tania, not to forget the show-stopping Gukesh. Finally, it is extremely important to have administrators, policy makers and corporates all in a dialogue with each other on the future of Indian sport. From federation presidents like Adille Sumariwalla, Kalikesh Singh Deo and Dilip Tirkey to corporate leaders like TV Narendran, Chanakya Chaudhary, Rahul Todi and Sanjiv Navangul, the conclave will offer a forum for practitioners and policy makers to exchange ideas and create a template for the future of Indian sport.
