“She has something, right?”

Castle trots to catch up. He’s somehow always trotting to catch up. Kate thinks maybe he wouldn’t have to if he weren’t always stopping to chat with every one of the six hundred new best friends he’s made since he started darkening her doorstep. Maybe he wouldn’t have to if every last one didn’t happily chat back.

“She would’t call us all the way down here if she didn’t have something,” he pants.

“What’s the matter, Castle?” she asks as she pushes through the last set of doors on the way to Lanie’s lab. “Already burn through that enthusiasm for dead bodies?”

“My enthusiasm for bodies burns as hot as ever, Detective.” He bounds ahead to get the door for her. He bows low and sweeps an after you arm toward the threshold.

He’s always doing that, too. It’s unnecessary. It’s annoying. She brushes by him with a scowl that runs right into Lanie’s all-too-observant smirk. “Dr. Parish?”

The ME’s eyebrow shoots up at the pointed use of her title. If Kate were any less annoyed, she might blush at her own misdirected sharpness, but it’s been a long couple of days already. She’s pretty annoyed. Thankfully, though, her friend confines herself to a mild shake of the head as she pulls on a pair of gloves and reaches for the cold locker’s stiff silver handle.

Max Heller’s lifeless body slides into view. Kate catches a glimpse of Castle out of the corner of her eye. He’s caving in on himself. She does the math from this kid to his daughter and a little of her aggravation evaporates. He’s a pain in the ass, for sure, but he bears up under some pretty unbearable stuff. Plus, he occasionally knows better than to run his mouth.

Lanie takes them through what she has. The bruise and the BAC, and Kate hides a smile when his voice shoots up an octave over the number. There’s no bad boy in it. He’s all apoplectic, overprotective dad in the moment, and it hardly even irritates her when they’re on their way out and he makes a dash ahead of her to get the door again.

Hardly, but then Lanie calls after him. “Oh, Mr. Castle?”

He stops short in the act of pushing open the swinging door. The stiff spring carries it swiftly back, he catches it three inches from Kate’s nose as he twists back around.

“Thank you.” Lanie’s sly smile calls up something infinitely dopier in answer on his face.

“They made it?” He lets the door go entirely, ignoring the fact that the move more or less traps Kate halfway in, halfway out. “I trust Cinderella approves?”

“Oh, hell yes.” Lanie laughs. “Won’t be leaving those babies at the ball.”

The slap of Kate’s palm against the door makes him jump. It makes him hop to. It’s satisfying even if she can feel another of Lanie’s smirks burning a hole between her shoulder blades. She stalks down the hall, lowering her shoulder as she hits the second set of swinging doors. He’s there a second before she is, though—of course he is—and her shoulder makes contact with him instead of shitty, scuffed-up laminate. 

“Hey!” He manages to catch her by the shoulders, half breaking her fall, half stopping his own tumble backward. “You ok—”

“Slippers?” she hisses. She brings her arms up between their bodies and breaks his hold on her shoulders like he’s a mugger after her shoulder bag. “You bought the Medical Examiner slippers?”

“Yes?” He takes an immediate step back, opening up space between them. “She said her feet were cold. Yesterday. In the water. So . . . slippers.”

He reaches the end of his ass-saving conversational gambit then. He blinks at her. She gives him back a hard stare, biting the inside of her own cheek viciously so the smile trying to fight its way out doesn’t make it. It’s ridiculous. He’s ridiculous. She makes him sweat a second longer, just for good measure, then she’s off. She makes it a count of three before he launches himself after her.  

“I listen, you know, Beckett.” His words are choppy as he trots to catch up. “I pay attention. That’s why people like me.”

“Some people, Castle.” She spins to face him, timing it perfectly so the back of her body pops the last set of double doors wide a stride and a half before he can get there. “Maybe.”

Hey, Anon. I’m sorry It took this long, but this is a longass post and it needed to be done with a lot of thought. Took me like 2 hoursto write. So first of all, how dare you make me choose. :P Loved writing itthough. Disclaimer: I love the dark anddangerous ones the best. But the equal serving of light-hearted moments is thereason this show, in my opinion, will forever be the best show on the planet tome. And that’s just my opinion, so no hate. I probably missed a lot of episodestbh.

Season 1 (Pilotseason. Changed the course of my life.)

EP-1: ‘Flowers forYour Grave’: For obvious reasons. I fell in love with the show from thefirst second. (Note: The line “You have no idea.” With that signatureKate Beckett lip-bite? I swooned.)

Tie between EP-4: ‘Hell Hath No Fury’: Castle reading “N-no one, will see my tears…” while thoroughly distracted byBeckett’s stunning appearance in that red-dress™ will never get old.

And EP-5: ‘A Chill Goes Through Her Veins’: Wesee Caskett playing house and building theory for the first time. CUTE™

EP-3: ‘Hedge FundHomeboys’: It’s the first time we see Kate Beckett take down a bad boy.

Season 2 (The onewith the line: “You smell like cherries.”)

Do the two-parters count as 1? Yes.

EP-17&18: ‘TickTick Tick…Boom!’: I loved the idea of a serial killer coming after thereal-life version of a fictional character. There were so many layers of guiltand emotion in this one.

EP-13: ‘SuckerPunch’: Our first real look intoBeckett’s mother’s case. And we get Beckett saying she would like Castle to bearound when she solves it. *heart eyes*

EP-12: ‘A RoseForever After’: The first time I shipped Castle with anyone other thanBeckett. Intense.  (Note: Lanie shows herself to be theembodiment of the entire fandom with the line “Honeyy, just because youdon’t see what’s going on, doesn’t mean everyoneelse can’t see what’s going on!” and Stana’s improvised “Shuut upp!” gets me every time.)

Season 3 (MYFAVOURITE SEASON and the one where Beckett has the best hair)

There are so many on here I can’t choose. That’s why, in noparticular order:

EP-6: ‘3XK’: Thebeginning of a saga. This was a twist I did not see coming.

EP-13: ’Knockdown’:CASKETT KISS. CASKETT KISS. CASKETT KISS. Even if it wasn’t real, in the wordsof Castle: “That was amazing!”

EP-14: ‘Lucky Stiff’:Solely because we get to see Beckett drive a Ferrari (HOT) and go clubbingundercover. Martha (Castle’s mother) has a significant arc in this episode,loved that.

EP-21: ‘The DeadPool’: We get to see jealous writer Castle and Beckett thinking it’s oh sosweet. “From now on I’m a one writergirl.” *SQUEAL*

EP-16&17: ‘Setup’& ‘Countdown’: Castle andBeckett GO ROGUE FOR THE FIRST TIME. I SCREAMED.

EP-22: ‘To Love andDie in LA’: Rogue Beckett appears again, goes to LA, and Castle followswithout hesitation!! I love Rogue Beckett. She’s my favourite. So intense. Plus, this is when she finally realises she might be falling hard for this guy.AND we get to see Kate undercover in a swimsuit? HOT.

EP-24: ‘Knockout’:“I LOVE YOU, KATE.”  (This episode also had the biggest twist everregarding her mother’s case. I gaped for ten minutes straight.)

(Honorary Mention: EP-5:‘Anatomy of a Murder’: A weird Grey’s parody but ended up being one of thesweetest cases, which included Castle’s mother confirming that Beckett was histrue love. LOL.)

Season 4 (SO MUCHANGST IN THIS SEASON. IT FELT TOXIC)

EP-1: ‘Rise’: Somany emotions. Castle’s the one who gets to be mad this time. Loved all thecryptic messages in their conversation on the swings. And the way he gets herto stop going down the rabbit hole again? Beautiful.

EP-9: ‘Killshot’:PTSD Kate Beckett was fascinating to watch. Stana Katic deserved an Emmy forher performance in this one.

EP-23: ‘Always’: “What do you want, Kate?”  “You.”  I DIED OKAY? I DIED. (This episode also hadROGUE BECKETT and HIGH EMOTIONS.)

(Honorary Mention: EP-21: ‘Headhunters’: It was fun to seeCastle flounder with an aggressive cop while Castle and Beckett silentlydrifted away just before the finale. In the end, Beckett comes through anywayand saves his sorry ass because she always has Castle-Man-child’s backapparently. Heart-warming.)

 Season 5 (THEY’REFINALLY TOGETHER. YAY!)

EP-1: ‘After theStorm’: WE SEE BECKETT’S MOTHER’S KILLER. And more Rogue Beckett. Love thefact that she gave Bracken a scar across the face.

EP-5: ‘ProbableCause’: The return of 3XK. I love these episodes. They’re the ones with thebest writing. The ending though: “Youshot him. He’s dead. It’s over.”  “…Fornow.”

EP-13: ‘Recoil’:Beckett finds herself protecting her mother’s killer. HA LOVED THAT, and thedeath glares she kept giving him the entire episode.

(Honorary mentions: EP-15&16: ‘Target’ & ’Hunt’: LIAM NEESON CASTLE FOR THE WIN,and Alexis is a badass in her own right.And EP-24: ‘Watershed’: “Katherine Houghton Beckett, will you marryme?”   DIED DEAD. DID NOT SEE THAT COMING. SECOND HAPPY FINALE IN A ROW? I couldn’t believe it.)

Season 6 (I love but also feel kinda weird aboutthis one)

EP-9: ‘Disciple’:All the doppelganger victims and chaos turn out to be 3XK’s doing (kinda). KellyNeiman gave me chills. (Even though she spent the entire episode gushing aboutBeckett’s gorgeous face, I mean who wouldn’t?) “We’ll meet again. Don’t know where, don’tknow when.”

EP-17: ‘In the Belly of The Beast’: This isone of those episodes where Beckett is at her sharpest, and own her own. One ofmy all-time favourite episodes. The ending was unexpected; gave me chills.

EP-22: ‘Veritas’:SHE FINALLY CLOSES HER MOTHER’S CASE CAN YOU BELIEVE IT? IT WAS WAY TOOSATISFYING TO WATCH. ALSO, WHAT A TWIST THAT WAS. Poetic justice indeed. And of course, the entire episode is just ridden with Rogue Beckett moments, whichyou know I love.

(Honorary Mention:EP-7: ‘Like Father, Like Daughter’:An Alexis centric episode that I ABSOLUTELY loved. I’ve always regarded Castle’srelationship with his daughter as GOALS, so this one highlighted that, theintelligent side of Alexis, and Beckett’s insecurity- that was a great touch.Very real.)

Season 7 (Thelast season according to me)

EP-6: ‘The Time ofOur Lives’: Castle wakes up in a world where he never met Beckett and we get tosee her crush on him for a second time. CUTE™ and puts things into perspectivefor everyone. THEY’RE FINALLY MARRIED. YAY.

EP-14&15: ‘Resurrection’& ‘Reckoning’: 3XK and KellyNeiman are BACK AND BETTER THAN EVER. Too bad, Castle and Beckett beat them at their own game. EXTREME CASTLE ANDBADASS BECKETT IN ONE EPISODE. I WAS CRYING. 3XK finally goes down after like…4years. Amazing.

EP-23: ‘Hollander’sWoods’: This one just tied up the entire series in a bow. We got to seewhat made Beckett who she was, and this one shows Castle’s own can of worms. Ilike to think that this was the perfect ending to the show, but hey season 8was great too.

Season 8 (Theloopy one)

EP-1: ‘XY’: Thisone and the one after were both extremely wild rides from start to finish.CAPTAIN Beckett on the run is very intense to watch.

EP-12: ‘The BlameGame’: More like a psychological thriller. Exposes the different kind ofhumans and their thinking process. I loved seeing the roles Caskett played whenfaced with mortal danger without each other. They always seem to be wordlesslyin sync. I wish I had their beautiful brains too.

EP-22: ‘Crossfire’:Even though this was kind of a sloppy ending to Castle’s disappearance andLOKSAT and finally putting an end to Kate’s can of worms, the twists continuedto keep me on my toes. Plus, the Senator-Beckett-with-three-kids prediction came true and thatsatisfied me to no end.

 The one thing I absolutely LOVED in season 8 was Alexisbeing a full grown competent adult with a brain just as sharp as her father’s.And the introduction of Hayley, who more or less SAVED the season with her wit.

(I wish this show never ended to be honest, but when theycancelled Stana for season 9, I knew I couldn’t watch anymore. I’m glad theynever got the chance to do that, with abc cancelling them and all.)

Okay enough of the past. I hope you watch their new stuff, anon! Jon Huertas (Esposito) is on the show This is Us, which is BEAUTIFUL and deserves an Emmy tbh. And now Stana Katic (Kate Beckett) is the lead in Absentia, which is on its way to becoming another one of my favorites. It’s very intense, and her acting is brilliant, obviously. Not to mention, Jon and Seamus Dever (Ryan) are now an actual musical duo (i always loved their bromance tbh) called shayjeanmusic! They’ll be releasing music soon! Nathan Fillion…well…he was in Cars 3! I don’t know what future plans he’s got though. I’d love to watch anything new of his too.

Castle Episodes (Seasons 1+2)

So, I decided to do a Castle rewatch because I miss the show a lot. And I thought I could write down some of my favorite moments and some important moments and just some random thoughts. Not on every episode but those that I thought needed to be mentioned. It’s a personal post, so I might mention episodes that you wouldn’t and it’s possible that I won’t mention episodes that you would. This post is for seasons 1 and 2 only, I’ll start with season 3 now and will publish the post once I’m done with season 3.

1x01 Flowers for your Grave: The pilot. Where everything gets started. Classic.

1x02 Nanny McDead: Some lovely Castle/Alexis moments. Also, “So what” is the ringtone of the dead person.

1x03 Hedge Fund Homeboys: There’s this adorable scene where Castle watches Alexis sleep and he’s really worried about her because of the case and makes sure that she knows that she could tell him everything. Also the next day, there’s this silly moment where Alexis beats herself up over not paying for the subway and not telling Castle about it and he’s like “yeah you need to be punished - mandatory ice cream for breakfast for a week”. It’s super silly but also super adorable.

1x05 A Chill Goes Through Her Veins: We get some first information on Beckett’s mother’s death. Also, Joshua Radin’s “No envy, no fear” plays at the end.

1x06 Always Buy Retail: We meet Alexis’ mom <3 Meredith is exhausting, but I wish we’d seen her more frequently on the show. Especially in the episode where Alexis was kidnapped. Also, Castle gets his “writer” vest in this one. Also the scene where Castle receives a message on his phone with his “dad! dad! dad!” ringtone is HILARIOUS. Also, Castle saves Beckett’s life in this episode. The last scene is too adorable where Meredith tells them that she got a job offer and thus can’t stay in New York. Castle looks super good in this scene and the way he hugs Alexis is so adorable. He looks so cute the way he smiles and how he holds her and my heart just <3 <3

1x07 Home is where the heart stops: Beckett saves Castle’s life.

1x09 Little Girl Lost: A two-year-old girl is abducted. Of course this gets a little personal for Castle. There’s an adorable scene with him and Alexis, where he hugs here. It’s a “pea-pod thing”.”I can’t imagine anything like this ever happening to Alexis” I used that quote on a gifset I made about Alexis’ abduction. (this one) 

1x10 A death in the family: Alexis wants to go to the junior-senior prom with Owen and she’s like “please say yes” and Castle goes “If I say yes, will you promise to stay up past your bedtime, have a good time?” It’s so cute <3 And then Martha goes “you’re letting her go out with someone you’ve never met? What kind of a father are you?” and he’s not too sure about it anymore lol and even asks Beckett for a background check on the boy. “Sweety, I want you to know that no matter what you think you look, you’re perfect exactly the way you are” There are so many cute Castle-Alexis moments. The scene where Alexis returns from prom and she and Castle talk - it’s so adorable and he loves his daughter so much, I wanna cry. Also, Castle has some new information on Beckett’s mother’s murder.

2x01 Deep in death: Beckett saves Castle’s life. Also, Castle to Alexis “Thank you. For just... being you.” <3 And Castle apologizes to Beckett.

2x02 The Double Down: Alexis has her first heartbreak. Also the scene where Castle hears Martha and Alexis fighting and he’s worried that Martha is beating Alexis, so he rushes into the apartment only to find them rehearsing for a play lol

2x04 Fool me once: “There’s no one in the world that I trust more than I trust you” <3 Alexis has violin lessons in this episode and her teacher happens to be “a hottie”, so Castle goes into full protective mode and wants his background checked and all that which causes a fight between Castle and Alexis. Also, Beckett reads Heat Wave in the bathtub and later in the precinct bathroom where she checks out the sex scene lol.

2x05 When the bough breaks: Meredith “Cruella” Blake from The Parent Trap is in this one.

2x06 Vampire Weekend: It’s Castle in his Firefly outfit. “Yes, you can go [to the party]. But if anything happens that makes you feel uncomfortable, anything at all, you call me. I don’t care what it is. And there’ll be no punishments, no recriminations, nothing, I promise, so long as you just call.” <3 Also Castle’s evil laughter and then choking. When Alexis calls because Paige is drunk, he just goes “I’m on my way” and takes care of them <3 It’s just so great to see Castle this caring and responsible, you know. He’s this silly child all the time and now he’s actually responsible and a parent. “There’s nothing that you could do that would stop me from protecting you or supporting you.” I just love their relationship.

2x07 Famous Last Words: “Angel” <3 The lead singer of a band Alexis likes is killed. “He called her a ... [realizes Alexis is in the room] B-I-T-C-H” “She can spell, detective” greatest scene. The way Castle looks at her when she leaves is pure love. He loves his daughter so much, it’s beautiful. “Weren’t you opening for P!nk?” OPENING FOR PINK OH MY GOD. lol “what about Alexis? She’s perfect, she has no alibi” lol Castle, your suspecting your own daughter.

2x08 Kill The Messenger: It’s Ryan, Esposito and Castle on the couch with a teacup and a bunch of kittens ;D Martha signs up on “MyFace” and meets Chet. “Are you looking at porn?” “I use Ryan’s computer for that.” 

2x09 Love me dead: “You know you can tell me anything, right?” Castle is worried because Alexis is clearly hiding something from him. He got even more concerned when Alexis called Beckett asking for advice and still not talking to him. And Ryan and Esposito aren’t really helping either :D “Maybe she got kicked out of school.” “Or she’s doing drugs.” “M-hm, teen pregnancies are on the rise.” “Woah, you met my daughter. You know that she’s the closest thing to perfect as humanly possible.” <3 Turns out, Alexis only wanted to ask Beckett about an exchange program to France because Beckett had studied abroad. There’s also this scene I’ve seen as a reaction-gif a couple of times where Alexis says that she wants to study in Oxford and Castle goes “You know that’s in England, right” “yeah”.

2x10 One Man’s Treasure: “Big Castle likes to get in the way. I’m sure little Castle is a pleasure.” Alexis is volunteering at the precinct. “First days of preschool, I used to hide in the bushes to make sure she was alright”. “Fact Fiction” plays in this one <3 Alexis closes her “who does that book full of personal pictures belong to” case. The way that Castle looks at her and smiles is just pure pride and love.

2x13 Sucker Punch: The storyline of Beckett’s mother’s murder continues. We meet Beckett’s dad. “I have a hard job, Castle, and having you around makes it a little more fun.” Beckett finds the guy who killed her mother, she just doesn’t know who hired that person. And she has to shoot the guy to protect Castle. The scene in which she tries to get him back is heart breaking. Maybe you should’ve aimed for his shoulder. You weren’t that far apart and he wasn’t in movement, so...?

2x14 The Third Man: Castle ranks #9 as the hottest Bachelor’s in town or something. Alexis’ principal wants a date. And her German teacher Fräulein Sonnenberg (no one is called Fräulein in Germany anymore but we) wanted Alexis to tell Castle auf Deutsch “du hast Sexappeal” lol it’s too cute. Also, Alexis is kinda pissed and annoyed at all this. And when Castle realizes that he grins all over and goes “Oh you hate me a little bit right now, don’t you”. Castle to Alexis: “You’re number one on mine [my list]. Look, it’s my job to worry about you, not the other way round.” Castle’s tie looks slighty different in the restaurant, the color is different. Maybe it’s the light or maybe they messed up.

2x15 Suicide Squeeze: Castle’s father is addressed once again.

2x16 The mistress always spanks twice: We meet Ryan’s girlfriend Jenny <3

2x17 Tick Tick Tick /2x18 Boom: so intense, such a ride, such a thrill. Need I say more?

2x19 Wrapped up: Love the episode, it’s hilarious! Castle thinks he’s cursed because he looked at an ancient mummy. Some weird things happen to him (some of which can be explained because the team tampers with them, others remain unexplained). There’s a scene where the elevator stops and he’s afraid it’s gonna fall, so he lays on the ground while the doors open. I’ve seen this as a gif several times (with the #dead writing on it). When he explains the situation, there’s a random cop just pissing himself in the background, it’s hilarious when you watch him. Also, Castle asks Martha if she would look after Alexis if something happened to him. And later, he asks Beckett, too, because “she looks up to you” <3

2x20 The Late Shaft: The final scene is so adorable when Alexis returns from her five-day-trip and Castle hugs her and goes “my best girl, oh I missed you so much, i’m so glad you’re home”. This scene is so beautiful. The way he speaks and hugs her, it’s just so beautiful, so much love.

2x22 Food to die for: Alexis wants to go on a weekend trip with her friends, but she also has exams coming up and wants/needs to study for those. She feels bad about every decision she makes, so eventually she asks her dad to tell her to stay home and study. That scene is adorable. And then Castle is like “1,001 ways to distract someone who’s studying. We start by freezing ping-pong balls.” Ah I just love their relationship <3

2x23 Overkill: Castle is so jealous of that guy that’s been working with Beckett all the time. He’s always been jealous but it gets even worse in this episode. And at the end of the episode (Lifehouse’s Crash and Burn is playing), he watches Beckett and the guy kiss and it basically kills him. The look on his face, oh boy.

2x24 A Deadly Game: Ah, the episode is so frustrating. Castle and Beckett clearly care a lot about each other, yet they both mess up and don’t get it right. Beckett breaks up with her boyfriend and starts to talk to Castle, thanking him, telling him that she had a great time with him. And then Gina shows up and Castle says they are off to the Hamptons for the summer and it really sounds and looks like Castle and Gina are back together. And I - as a viewer - get so frustrated because Castle and Beckett can’t get their shit together. Man, how did everyone feel when the episode aired for the very first time, not knowing what would happen after the hiatus. Anyway. Alexis is off to a summer program by Princeton University and Castle is so over-protective and in ‘jealous dad-mode’ because the rooms are mixed-gender and Alexis already met with a boy that’s going to the program too. It’s super adorable how jealous and protective he is. And when Castle tells the boys at the precinct about their goodbye, he goes “it was really emotional, there were a lot of tears. ... Alexis was fine, by the way.” :D
