still talking about mean girls sorry!!(<- not sorry)
this is probably the only time i will ever say this about any movie musical. but ive seen the stage show and the new movie and i can definitely say i preferred the movie. it fixed so many of my problems with the musical and honestly the story just works better onscreen to me
#mean girls#PLEASE someone else whos seen both tell me your thoughts#honestly ive been into the show since the cast recording first released#(i have a crush on barrett wilbert weed. who doesnt)#and ive been iffy on a lot of the songs & there were a bunch of issues i had with it when i saw it live#but a lot of my problems either werent there or were less glaring in the movie#like i cant stand the full meet the plastics song but the fact that they only did reginas verse made it so much better#and the fact that renee is so fucking hot. my god. i still havent recovered#also hot take. sexy in general is kinda lame. but i had more fun with it in the movie than in the show#plus a lot of the dancing in the show seemed weirdly out of place to me. idk how to describe it#honestly i have that issue in general with casey nicholaw's choreography.. he just tries to do so much in every song#like the movie wasnt perfect and there were plenty of things that i liked in the musical more than the movie#(i did not like the song they replaced it roars with. it was bad)#but overall the movie was better to me#anyways uh my opinion may be partially influenced by the way i was baked while watching the movie. whos to say

i will get tired of talking about it eventually but what if i actually like ended it all guys it’s SO BAD MUSICAL THEATRE IS OVER ENDANGERED SPECIES THEY WANT US TO DIE THEY WANT ME PERSONALLY TO DIE
#the digital ensemble… cutting almost all the belting… ‘remixing’ EVERY song#like i had prepared for so much but i never expected them to just. rewrite every song so it isn’t a showtune. like#i see why they didn’t call it means girls the musical !#auli’i and jaquel i’m so sorry… like were you silent or were you silenced (routine slayers prevented from slaying)#apparently jeff richmond did this to his own songs? i couldn’t find any producer credits or anything. normally there’s an evil pop man#behind this kind of thing.#anyways. they disrespected me they disrespected my family they disrespected casey nicholaw they disrespected the art form of belting AND#they don’t seem to have used the opening theme at all? du na na na. na na. du na na na? na na?#original

okay okay since y’all are begging (sarcastic) my Tony Award 2023 predictions (musicals)
Best Musical: Kimberly Akimbo Best Revival: Parade Best Score: Some Like It Hot Best Book: Shucked
(yes rare triple split for book, score, and musical!!) Best Actor in Musical: J Harrison Ghee (this one is tough) Best Actress: Victoria Clark (also tough!) Best Featured Actor: Alex Newell Best Featured Actress: Bonnie Mulligan Best Director: Michael Arden Best Choreographer: Casey Nicholaw Design ones I haven’t seen enough to guess. I hope they give & Juliet something (costumes??). Sweeney Todd gets sound design maybe? But yeah, I think lots of love spread around this year (because deserving as this was a really good season but also bonus affect of more shows being able to add “Tony Winner” to their marquee to get box office numbers up and what has been a slump since the pandemic) Who are y’all’s Tony picks? What performances are you looking forward to? I’m excited to see Into the Woods cast back together (in some extent) for their performance!
