You got invited by Corona to be an extra on the new “La vida mas fina” campaign at the beach.
Even if was only one single scene, maybe just 10 seconds of screen you would be more than happy because the main reason was him…Pedro.
After the shooting you are allowed to walk around the set. Maybe do a small talk perhaps. That’s all you want just to make your day.
The director wraps up the bar scene and move to another set. You sit on the bench at the bar they just did the scene.
_why he has to be so hot?_
You order a beer and just watch the movement, people coming and going…
Pedro sits next to you saying “what a day huh? Hey, you were at the beach right?”
You say.. ”Me? Yeah” you get your eyes locked on him… drinking on him… your eyes run across his entire body… you take every single detail…
He moves closer, holding the beer out to you… giving you a smile as he get close…and say “So gorgeous” leaving you in a whisper… your body stands there, staring at him…
You say… “sorry, Did you just said the “gorgeous” to me?” Your face blushing and try not to look at him in the eye. You take a sip of beer and wait on what he is going to say.
“Yes…” he nods softly, moving closer to you, leaning against the bar next to you, close, so close he can smell your perfume. His head leans over, his mouth near your ear, his breath tickling your ear as he speaks, “I said you’re gorgeous…” winking at you.
You drop your mouth and still don’t believe he called you gorgeous. You try to hold on yourself and thank him for the compliment and also say that was fun to act with him at the beach early that morning and if he is looking forward for more…
He gives you a wide smile as he speaks.
“That was fun… and it’ll only keep being fun…” his arm moves out, sliding along the counter, moving a bit behind you, resting there as he brings the beer to his mouth, another chuckle leaving him at the thought of the wink…
“Your winks are something else…” he tells you, taking another sip as his arm stays right behind you….
His head leaning closer again, his mouth brushing gently against your ear as he speaks again, his voice low, his teeth pulling on your earlobe playfully
“Oh it was fun… getting to… watch you on the beach… the water dripping down your body… I hope you’re ready… for even more…”
His tongue flicks out, licking over his bottom lip, a small smile on his face.
Oh… I love that wink… the way it makes him feel inside… he’d smile back at you, a hand lifting, gently tracing along your jaw with his fingers, his head tilting “I’d love to see more…” his fingers tracing a pattern on your neck… “So… where are you staying?”
_you are very shy but still taking his compliments so well._
With sad eyes you say that you already checked out from your hotel because you taking a plane back home tonite but still 4pm and the shooting is over for both of you.
His smile softens, thinking, his fingers tracing along your cheeks, your jaw as he watches you…
“Oh… my sweetheart… that won’t do… I’m not letting you leave just yet…” he says softly.
“How about…” his eyes look at you, “how about I take you to my hotel? My beach condo…? He offers, wanting you to stay for just a little longer…
You open a wide smile and nod for him..
“Well, in that case I will accept your offer, Pedro. You are so kind….”
You reach out to the buttons of his shirt and close them only saying.. “first I close them, later I open.”
He chuckles saying “Oh… mi amor… I’d give you everything…Let’s go, shall we?” with one arm gently wrapping around your waist, pulling you closer against him…
On the way to the hotel you ask him laughing “why did you say…donde come 4, come 6!?”
_Because that sentence got stuck on your head._
He smiles at you, laughing at that, saying “Because I like to eat, gorgeous…” a chuckle leaving his arm tugging you closer, his body pressing against you, “and you seem like you can take it.”
You arrive at the hotel, he opens the room door, his lips gently leaving a kiss on yours as you enter… “what should we do now, beautiful?” he says…
Not loosing time you let him kiss you as you enter the room closing the door behind him. The exciment is so in fire that accidentally you rip off his shirt instead of unbuttoning …
He grins as you kiss him, his body shimmying off the shirt before you can tear it, his mouth moving away from yours to laugh, another low chuckle leaving him as he watches you.
“Easy, love…” he laughs, a smile on his face, his head tilting, his arms gently wrapping around your waist, “let’s not destroy my clothes… I have to wear that on my next scenes…”
You both laugh, your body gently pulling him closer against you, his hand moving in, pulling off your shirt, tossing it behind him, his lips moving across your neck, his mouth gently kissing over it, his teeth gently nipping, leaving love bites there.
“How are you going to make it up to me, cariño… I need a new shirt now…”
You say playfully.. “they might have more of the same for you to shoot tomorrow my dear” while reaching down to his inner tigh feeling his hard cock over his jeans.
“Maybe…” he laughs, another moan leaving him as he feels your hand brushing against his growing bulge.
His mouth pulls away from your neck to look at you, a mischievous look is on his face, his hands gently gripping your hips. His tongue licks over his lip, his head tilting as his hips gently grind against you, “or…” he pauses, smirking, “I could make you pay for it…”
You grab him by the chin, tickling his salt and pepper beard asking “how can I pay you Mr Pascal?” Giving him soft kisses on the corner of his mouth.
“Well…” he whispers, “pay me… with your mouth…”
You push him towards the king size bed, he let it go easily falling on his back on the mattress. “With… my mouth?” Rubbing his bulge through his pants. “You know what do you want?”
He laughs again, a groan leaving him, his body gently falling onto the bed, watching as you follow, his hands moving to unbutton his jeans, his body lifting a bit to pull them down, kicking them off as his head nods slowly…
“Oh…” he nods, “yes, my cariño… show me what you can do…”
You rub him over the boxers, looking at him with desire. One hand over his growing bulge while another alternating on his strong legs and tights.
“Darling…” he whispers, “I want to feel your… mouth…” bites his lower lip, looking down between the two of you, watching as your hand moves over him, watching as his body involuntarily tilts towards you, another groan leaving him as he feels you press against him, his head tilting back, a moan leaving him as the sounds leaves his mouth…
You slide your fingers around the waistband of his boxers lowering down…it’s thick, veiny oozing precum from his light pink head.
With a long lick from base to tip you wrap your mouth on his cock and with motion movements reach out your hands to pinch his nipples…
His head nodding, his fingers gently running through your hair as you slowly lift up, a groan leaving him, his eyes hooded, watching you, “God…” his mouth murmurs, his head falling back onto the bed, his body shivering as you gently lift up from him, “just like that…” he moans, his breathing heavy, his eyes closing
You’re glad he likes it, “but it’s not over.”
“I still have a couple hours with you. at your command now so I can pay for my crime” you chuckle…
He is watching you, thinking for a moment, a smile spreading over his face… “on your back…” he whispers, his hand gently pulling your arm, pulling you up onto the bed with him, “I wanna taste you…”
Another soft laugh leaving him as he gently rolls onto the bed, pulling you onto it with him, his eyes looking up at you, his hands gently tracing along your skin, running over your waist, pulling you close, his mouth moving over your waist, his tongue flicking over your skin, his eyes looking up at you as he put your undies to the side and presses a kiss on your core, his voice low, a possessive growl in
“Sweet… like candy…”
You run your fingers through his hair while he tastes you.
His mouth moves slowly, his tongue flicks out, tracing a pattern over your clit, his breath labored as he inserts his index finger into you with a thumb over clit overstimulating you with a thick spit he gives over your pussy.
A low moan leaves him, his eyes closing as he breathes you in, his breath heavy against you “God… you feel so good… I can’t get enough…”
He takes you to the edge letting you release with a loud moan.
Hardly you try to ask him to climb up on you so he doesn’t need to rub himself against the sheets…
Another groan leaving him, his tongue flicking out, trailing along your skin as you say that, his body shifting, lifting, his mouth trailing kiss over your skin as his hips gently slide up your body, one hand moving, gently wrapping around your ankle… bringing your leg up over his shoulder…
“You want me somewhere, mi corazón?”
“yeah, inside me, babe… go slow I’m still sensitive…”
His mouth gently pulling away from your skin to look at you, his eyes looking into yours… “of course, mi amor…” he whispers softly as his body moves, inching forward, his hands gently gripping your hips as his hips gently grind forward inside you slowly..
You let a little moan..
The way he is breathing heavy against your mouth letting out some low moans “you so tigh, babe. I don’t want to hurt you…”
You start to scratch his sweat broad back while his pounding you. The sensation is so good your nails scraping against his back as you scratching and clawing at it…the sound of skin to skin echoes through the hotel room along with loud moans…
“You like it rough, cariño?”
“Yes, I do, Pedro. Now punish me…” you say out of breath..
His body loving the feeling of your nails on his skin… his hand moving, landing a sharp slap against you, “you’ve been bad…” he whispers softly, his hips gyrating against yours, “can you take your punishment?”
His body moving, his hands gently pressing you into the mattress as he moves, lifting himself over you, his mouth moving up to leave a kiss behind your ear and on your neck
“Beg for mercy…”
His hands tracing over your body, his mouth kissing over you as he moves, gently lifting your other leg, putting them both over his shoulders.
He groans as you beg, his mouth moving on your neck, gently kissing there, his hands pressing around your wrists, pinning them above your head, his mouth leaving a rough bite, his tongue flicking out to soothe the skin
“What will you give me if I give you mercy…”
You say laughing…”another new brand shirt?”
He groans at your words, his teeth gently nipping at your neck, “that’s it?” his aquiline nose gently bumping at yours as he looks down at you, “are you sure that’s all I can have, mi cariño?
I’m sure I can find something else I want…”
“What else, hottie?” You say playfully.
His body grinding against yours, his legs moving around you, wrapping around you, pulling you close. His mouth moves down to kiss over your skin, “I want…” he whispers softly, “for you to do me favor…”
“what kind…of..favor?” You whisper with eyes closed.
He hears your question, his mouth moving on your skin, his hand moving up to gently cup your face, tilting it to look up at him, a devious smile on his face as his eyes look into yours…
“I want… to leave you feeling sore…”
“Yeah..leave me sore, Pedro” out of breath…
He smirks at you question with his mouth gently planting a kiss on your lips, “in the best ways… I want to go you feeling sore…” his mouth pulling away as he looks at you, “and I want you saying my name… like a prayer…”
“So make me sore…Pedro…”
His mouth moving as he whispers against your skin, his body gently shifting to press closer, “so… very sore…” he pauses, he looks at you, “are we in agreement…?” smirking a bit as his eyes look into yours, he’d gently grip your hip, rolling, flipping, pulling you to straddle him… his hands on your thighs…”
“And then…” you say.
He looks up at you, his hands moving, gently tracing up over your thighs, feeling the silken skin, his mouth tugging at your lower lip, his hands shifting to your bottom, his hands giving a little squeeze there as his eyes look up at you, “sit on me…” he whispers softly, “sit in my lap…"
“Pedro I just have little time now with you before I head home…” sitting on his lap..
His body shifting as you sit, his eyes closing as his arms wrap around you, pressing you close, lifting, gently pulling your head down as his arms wrap around you, holding you close and tight
“I know…” he whispers softly, “so… I want to make the most of it… for our last hour…” his arms pulling you down a bit, his mouth leaving kisses across your skin…
“Cum inside me, babe… let’s do it quick..hmmm?” You say with a little bit of sadness on your voice.
His hands moving on your body, his mouth trailing kisses down your neck, “you want me to give you my juice…” he whispers, his mouth moving, “right now?”
“Yes Pedro, fill me up..”
His hands moving to your thighs, feeling the silken skin against his fingertips, his mouth pulling away a bit as he looks at you, “how bad do you want it…” he whispers, “beg like you mean it…”
“Please…”
He looks at you pouting, “since you asked so nicely…” he whispers, his mouth pulling away from yours, his breath shaky and excited as he looks at you, his hands gripping your thighs, shifting you for a moment, “just tell me to stop if it ever hurts, sit back, cariño…” he whispers, his hands moving around, settling on your hips, guiding you until you’re comfortably back against him, his mouth biting your neck, his hands on your hips pulling you in, his body gently pulling you close… “just like this…” he whispers…
“Yes just like this…” you say while he fills you up with his hot delightful cum..
He rolls onto his back as he watches you get ready to leave, his body stretching out on the bed, watching you get ready to go, smiling as you take his shirt, sitting back, his arm behind his head, watching you, a small chuckle leaving him.
“And how will I get in contact with you again, mi vida?”
You will never know…
He laughs, shaking his head as he looks at you, his hand lifting, waving you off playfully, his eyes looking at you as laughs, “oh, so mysterious…” he shakes his head as he smiles, a low hum leaving him as another laugh leaves him.
“Such a tease…”

To all supporters of the Kurdish liberation struggle, anti-fascists, socialists, feminists, anarchists, communists, environmentalists, and those dedicated to a better world: Turkey has launched probably the most widespread bombing campaign North-Eastern Syria has faced so far. Since October 5th, Turkey has conducted over 30 airstrikes, primarily in the Cizîre region and Kobanê. These airstrikes have targeted vehicles, villages, and especially critical civilian infrastructure, including oil- and power plants & gas stations, resulting in civilian casualties and casualties among internal security forces. Large areas experienced a total power blackout, with many hospitals, bread factories and other critical public institutions without electricity. The attacks continued this morning when a Corona Hospital & a power station were targeted. Despite the obvious war crimes, no reaction has been heard from the international community so far.

just remembered that in 2021 i was vaccinated against the corona virus in an airport that they re-purposed as a giant vaccination center during the first months of the vax campaign and i had to stand in a long ass queue for about 2h just to get INSIDE the building. it was run by the red cross and the german military and there were THOUSANDS of people there but the whole thing worked like a well oiled machine lmao. queue. backpack control. queue. fever thermometer gun. queue. id and health documents check. queue. health questionnaire. queue. vaccination risk briefing. queue. preparation. queue. jab. 15min mandatory waiting time in case of side effects. idk the pandemic was so weird in hindsight. spent over half a day to get a jab and i was the happiest woman in the country i think lol
#i still remember the exact date bc i had been looking forward to it for a while#i got vaccinated pretty early bc i was in a job that was ✨️relevant to the system✨️/critical infrastructure and i feel like everyone who#also got to be one of the first ones was just rlly happy to be there lmao

Ok just because brain is buzzing - some more info regarding the Locked Tomb campaign I was gonna run that I posted the sheets for over hereee: https://www.tumblr.com/greyborn2/718444295287390208/custom-character-sheet-thingy-i-made-for-a-locked All the stuff under the cut because it be LONGGGG
-Was gonna be set in the 91st century of the first myriad. So during Nonius' time. Had planned for him to make a small cameo at some point. -Basic setup for it was that the Emperor and his Lyctors had 'gone silent' for a hundred to two hundred years. A blink of time for them (and besides, they were busy fighting resurrection beasts and dealing with losing a few of them) but enough time for things to slowly start descending into a shitshow in Dominicus. The houses wernt at open war, but tensions were super high and basically it was a case of nearly every house or powerful adept making a play for declaring themselves the stewards of Dominicus in the Emperor's absence. Political intrigue, infighting, a war of polite words, intrigue and assassinations. Big regency drama vibes. -Player characters were the Crown Princess of Ida, played by the player who had never read locked tomb but INSTANTLY grok'd third house when I described them and, with no input from me, straight up made a hellish combo of Corona and Ianthe; The Mistress Templara of the Eighth House; The lady of the Fifth house; aaaaaand a traumatized sixteen year old war veteran from the Fourth who went to war and got his leg blown off and narrowly escaped with his life. -Eventual plan was that at some point near the end G1dion would show back up to see Dominicus like that 'everything on fire and chaos' gif from Community. Like full on "WHAT THE FUCK IS GOING ON THE EMPEROR UNDYING LEAVES YOU ALONE FOR TWO CENTURIES AND THIS HAPPENS?!?!" and at some point he and Nonius would fight (and fuck. Lets be honest) in the background. Probably just an event the players would hear about in passing but a lil' nod to the fact that Nonius and G1dion crossed blades. -Mechanically a lot of the system was a stripped back version of v5 WoD/Storyteller system with a bigger focus on narrative > strict mechanics because I just prefer systems to work like that. Less strict "Ah yes, I have this specific power" and more... flexible magic within the three disciplines of necromancy and the three-tier system I wrote within each one. Hard to quickly summarize but ye. -As mentioned in other post, was gonna make a map of Dominicus for it! If you've seen the maps of the Sol system for 40k where they are all sorta gothic and fantasy-y despite being star maps was gonna go for that vibe. Might come back to it at some point as an art project. -Ended up making the executive decision that '''powder''' as an off hand is a single shot duelling pistol. Big regency vibes, again. -Was playing around with the idea of making the Eighth player's cav into the BBEG. TL;DR is that she (Gris Ochtu, the Cav) had previously been cav to another necro. At some point her and her old necromancer had gotten into a life or death situation, her necromancer tried to syphon her to death, and Gris found a way of basically 'grabbing on' to the syphon tether, pulled her necromancer down to the river in a bout of panic and flight/fight and drowned her necromancer to death in said River. The whole event left her with a talent for basically shrugging off necromantic theorems directly cast against her, unraveling theorems that got close to her, and 'swallowing' up other peoples souls (or, well, it was gonna be a power she unlocked later in campaign as she became more of a threat and revealed herself as the traitor), casting them into the River, and then letting revenants take over their bodies. Anyways, she was reassigned after giving a false report that her necro had 'died trying to save her' and was biding her time/playing along before at some point she'd fucking crack and go Wake against the Empire while all the political stuff was also happening. Add a threat beyond politicking. Was an idea I was -toying- with, anyways. Also she was a silver haired milf with hardcore battle scarring because, well, ofcourse.
#tlt#the locked tomb#sorry again to any of my followers with zero interest in tlt#this is just the tangent of the night apparently

Hi, hello, good day to you. I would like to pick your brain about the aforementioned OCs.
Starting off with something a bit Doylist: What were the inspirations behind these characters? When did they originate? How did they evolve overtime?
Second one: Tell me abut the twins. Character pairs are interesting, and the more intertwined they are, the juicier it is. And you can't get any closer familial-wise than twins! Of Anatole and Anastasia, who's Corona and who's Ianthe? You piqued my interest greatly with a TLT mention.
And just one more: Give me the love stories. Any characters. Be the TLDR or the whole shebang, I'd like to see them.
Thank you for your consideration.
Literally every single one of them started off as NPCs and/or antagonists in a D&D campaign that ended prematurely. I got too attached and decided to carry them into their own special story (also, I wrote a song for 3B and for HIRO and Percival, and they were both too good to leave in the dust). Stella and the rest of Reject Radio haven't changed much since their inception, mainly because I, uh... never got to play the rest of Reject Radio. However, their personalities and roles became a lot clearer to me after I got into Leverage, and as soon as I decided that Stella was the mastermind of the group, she went from just being a ball of chaos to actually being pretty crafty and cocky.
With the twins... okay, so, Anatole started out as a villain in the aforementioned D&D campaign, and they were a very creepy changeling warlock who looked like a fucked-up pastel-colored stitch-doll, and Anastasia was simply a character in their backstory---she was the human who Anatole had been switched out for, and she eventually found her way back from the Feywild after her birth parents had thrown "the unnatural impostor" out. Anatole lost themselves in intense feelings of neglect, self-hatred, and fury, and eventually got taken in by a mad scientist who encouraged all of their dark impulses. Long story short, Anatole killed Anastasia, which started a... habit, shall we say. And then later down the line, they fell in love with a stitched devil, made a warlock pact with them, and the two of them became the creepiest power couple known to man.
Turns out, once you take away the codependent warlock pact and make Anatole a human so they actually have a relationship with Anastasia, they're not something that crawled out of your nightmares anymore! They're just a STEM major who's really, really, really into figuring out all the ways you can "improve" on nature (i.e. commit crimes against) and perfect the art of necromancy! And, uh... by that description, I think it's obvious that Anatole is the Ianthe and Anastasia is the Coronabeth of their relationship. Washed-out, dead-body-loving creep vs. sunshiny, seems-like-a-bimbo-yet-could-plot-your-downfall golden child.
As for the love stories... I'll give you the TLDR.
3B/Jax: These two met when Stella recruited Jax for Reject Radio as a drummer and a hitter, and 3B figured out that she was perfectly capable of feeling sexual attraction in a robot body the second she laid eyes on Jax beating the shit out of someone in the ring. She awkwardly flirted for a little while and upped the ante on her skills to get their attention, but Jax didn't start reciprocating feelings until after the two of them actually bonded as friends. They asked her out first.
Ricky/Sinead: They met when Sinead intended to rob Ricky's nightclub and he caught them casing the joint, though surprise of all surprises, they actually succeeded. This instantly kicked off a rivalry where the two of them tried to prove to the other that their method of stealing was better, going for the same targets and getting a little bit reckless in trying to prove themselves to the other. Eventually, the two of them got into some big trouble, Sinead rescued Ricky and chewed him out, and they hit the "begrudging mutual respect" portion of their relationship... respect that turned to friendship, which turned to a very deep and profound love. (There's so much more drama, sexual tension, and "I didn't realize how much I cared about this person until they were in serious danger" moments, but that's for another time.)
HIRO/Percival: A little while after HIRO became the head of the megacorporation Andromeda, Percival got hired as its de facto attorney due to his success in court. Almost immediately, HIRO noticed that there was something off about Percival---he acted like a total people pleaser and suck-up who'd do pretty much anything for respect from his superiors, but HIRO saw through the facade and realized that Percival was much more confident and much more crafty then he seemed. Suspecting him of being a spy of some sort, he fake-flirted and flattered him in order to throw him off his game, and in doing so, found out two things---that Percival wasn't a spy, and that his people-pleaser facade was because he enjoyed being underestimated. Not only that, but Percival had caught onto HIRO's scheme... and he'd managed to pick up on the fact that the flirting had stopped being fake a while ago, which was something that not even HIRO had realized. This resulted in a series of messy hookups, which evolved into dates, which evolved into an actual relationship that was surprisingly healthy, despite the fact that they made it seem drama-filled as possible to the public in order to stay prevalent. It's unfortunately working.
#ocs#my ocs#ask answer#this is fun#so yeah in summary#anatole is not as fucked up as they could be and anastasia went from haunting the narrative to being in full control of it#3b and jax are adorable as fuck#ricky and sinead are a true rivals-to-lovers slowburn and are couple goals#and hiro and percival are the embodiment of “love loses”

Choose your beer wisely
Even though both Heineken and Corona are foreign beer brands to the US, their expansion strategy and advertising campaign reflect divergent values. Modelo, the parent of Corona, has built its brand around partnership with distributors and consistency in the customer experience. With customers, Modelo chose to absorb additional Federal Excise Tax to maintain price accessibility. It could have followed its competitors to increase prices, since drinkers of imported beer are more affluent. Instead, it considers its position as the preferred imported beer among Hispanics – a group that has lower buying power than others. It also shows willingness to reinforce its identity as a Mexican brand but with US characteristics. It kept its long-neck bottle design and brewing entirely in Mexico yet adopted a non-returnable bottle packaging – a consumption behavior more consistent with US consumers. However, Corona initial advertising tagline on “Fun, Beach, Sun” was insufficient in building a strong brand. The tagline had uneven relatability across US consumers located in beach-deprived locations. Very little in its advertising campaign became a moat when safety and health rumors circulated.
Heineken on the other hand adopted a relatively hostile market penetration strategy. It was less responsive to distributors, less friendly to customers. Instead of playing up its product qualities, Heineken put down its competitors as a “faddish phenomenon”. For example, Heineken described Corona as “a quirky little alternative beer in Texas and California”. Heineken messaging almost came across as “either you are with us or against us” and risks alienating customers of its competitor brands. It also put distributors in a difficult spot, especially if distributers were serving both Heineken and its competitors. With little goodwill built up among stakeholders, Heineken risks brand erosion in the event of a scandal.

Corona
What are Heineken’s vulnerabilities and how could they be protected?
Corona has a very specific youthful and fun customer persona. Conveniently for Corona, the buying power of a large target market was growing due to population growth of Hispanic segment. Heineken's product appealed to an older crowd, one that was shrinking in relativity to the broader consumption market. A shrinking market is a large vulnerability. To defend against it could be to diversify product lines that apply to additional segments or serve a segment with strong brand associations specific to the segment they already have success with.
What do the Heineken and Corona brands mean in the minds of consumers, and how do these meanings differ in the minds of consumers?
Corona is the vacation beer. The brand elicits images of being on the beach with their slogans, imagery and name. When enjoyed regularly it is an attempt to escape mundane life and taste aspirational relaxation. Even its origin nation of Mexico is close enough to be attainable but far enough to feel exotic.
Heineken's brand was centered around responsible adults who take international beer seriously. Instead of focusing on building strong associations for consumers, Heineken focused on facts and attributes. Their stiff brand was reflective of how the company conducted business - a big conglomerate who had authority and intimidation amongst its stakeholders and suppliers. This serves as an example of how closely intertwined operations and brand are.
How do the advertising campaigns contribute to these meanings?
Clever slogans like "Vacation in a Bottle," "Find Your Beach" and "Change Your Latitude" elicit a chuckle out of customers and align with the light hearted mindset the Corona product is meant to embody.

Proba-3's laser-precise positioning by European Space Agency Via Flickr: An infrared view of a laser-based test campaign – taking place at Redwire Space in Kruibeke, Belgium – which represents crucial preparation for ESA’s precision formation flying mission, Proba-3. Later this year, two satellites will be launched together into orbit to maintain formation relative to each other down to a few millimetres, creating an artificial solar eclipse in space. Proba-3’s ‘Occulter’ spacecraft will cast a shadow onto the other ‘Coronagraph’ spacecraft to block out the fiery face of the Sun and make the ghostly solar corona available for sustained observation for up to six hours per 19.5 hour orbit. However to maintain the position of a shadow just a few centimetres across on the Coronagraph satellite from the Occulter satellite around 150 m away, the two satellites rely on a suite of sensors, including intersatellite radio links, GNSS, visual imaging and – for the most precise positioning at closest range – a laser metrology (or ‘measurement of measurement’) system. This system will shoot a laser from the Occulter spacecraft toward a corner cube retroreflector placed on the face of the Coronagraph spacecraft for tracking of relative position and attitude (pointing direction), achieving millimetre precision. “To calibrate Proba-3’s laser metrology system, its performance was tested within the 60-m long Redwire cleanroom,” explains Damien Galano, Proba-3’s mission manager. “The Coronagraph’s laser was reflected off a retroreflector and the resulting positioning measurements checked against absolute ‘ground truth’ using a separate laser tracking system.” This mission is being put together for ESA by a consortium led by Spain’s Sener, with participation by more than 29 companies from 14 countries. The Proba-3 platforms have been designed by Airbus Defence and Space in Spain and satellite integration by Redwire in Belgium. GMV in Spain is responsible for Proba-3’s formation flying subsystem while its main coronagraph instrument comes from Belgium’s Centre Spatial de Liège, CSL. Proba-3 is due to be launched by PSLV-XL launcher from India in September. Credits: ESA - M. Pédoussaut

West Coast LGBTQ House races expand
—Monday, May 22, 2023—
Happy Harvey Milk Day!! On what would have been the late gay San Francisco supervisor’s 93rd birthday, the state of California recognizes this Monday as a day of special significance in honor of its first out elected official.
Forty-six years after Milk’s historic victory, the list of LGBTQ officeholders has greatly grown and continues to do so with each election cycle. As the 2024 contests near, the number of out U.S. House candidates along the West Coast is increasing.
After suspending his 2022 campaign in January that year, former San Francisco resident Kevin Easton is again seeking one of Oregon’s House seats. The first openly gay man to run for Congress in the Beaver State, he would be the first LGBTQ congressmember from the Pacific Northwest if elected next November.
As the Bay Area Reporter’s online Political Notes column reports, Easton is now running to oust from office Republican Congressmember Lori Chavez-DeRemer in their state’s 5th Congressional District seat. Democratic Party officials have targeted it as one to flip next year.
Yet, as of now, Easton and his husband live just outside of the district in Oregon’s 6th Congressional District. It is the seat he had eyed last year, but with Democratic Congressmember Andrea Rose Salinas expected to seek reelection to it in 2024, Easton doesn’t want to run against a fellow party member.
With his hometown of Bend, Oregon, in the 5th Congressional District, Easton has a close connection to it. He and his husband are looking to move into it at some point, he told the B.A.R., even though U.S. House members don’t need to reside in their districts.
“It is definitely a winnable seat for me. It is the district I am from,” said Easton, who officially launched his campaign Sunday.
Also reviving his bid for a U.S. House seat in 2024 is gay attorney Will Rollins who now lives in Palm Springs. He lost last November to conservative Congressmember Ken Calvert (R-Corona) by 11,100 votes in California’s 41st Congressional District which includes a large part of the LGBTQ retirement and tourist mecca.
The former federal prosecutor expects to do much better next year running on the same ballot as a presidential election, which typically draws out younger, more progressive voters. Widely expected to mount another challenge against Calvert, Rollins made it official last Tuesday.
Within 24 hours he had raised more than $350,000 for his campaign coffers. And unlike his first bid, Rollins is starting off with an outpouring of support from Democratic leaders and groups, with 30 members of the state’s congressional delegation already backing his candidacy. The seat is also on Democrats’ target list to flip.
“The support is overwhelming,” said Rollins. “I’m incredibly humbled that at a time when it would be so easy to retreat from the toxic divisions that divide our country, so many grassroots supporters are stepping up to meet the moment and help us build a campaign that will bring real change for families across Riverside County.”
There are now four West Coast out congressional candidates who have relaunched bids for 2024. Progressive Democrat Derek Marshall is once again challenging Congressmember Jay Obernolte (R-Hesperia) for his 23rd Congressional District seat in the High Desert east of Los Angeles.
Mounting a third bid for the Golden State’s 30th Congressional District seat is Maebe A. Girl, a nonbinary drag queen elected in 2019 as the at-large representative for the Silver Lake Neighborhood Council in Los Angeles. She lost last year to Congressman Adam Schiff (D-Los Angeles) in the general election, having failed to advance out of the primary in 2020.
With Schiff now vying to succeed U.S. Senator Dianne Feinstein, who opted not to seek reelection next year, his seat will be open in 2024. Also running for it is queer West Hollywood Mayor Sepi Shyne, who would be the first queer Iranian in Congress if elected. California’s two gay Democratic congressmembers, Mark Takano of Riverside and Robert Garcia of Long Beach, are both expected to easily win reelection next year. Meanwhile, gay state Senator Scott Wiener (D-San Francisco) awaits word on if Congressmember Nancy Pelosi (D-San Francisco) will retire next year, opening up what will be a fierce battle to succeed the former House speaker on Capitol Hill.
The filing deadline for candidates who wish to seek offices on California’s March 5, 2024 primary ballot is December 8. If the incumbent officeholder opts not to run for reelection, then the deadline will be extended to December 13.

In Books: Catherine Lacey’s fourth novel, “Biography of X” tries to be all things, and succeeds. Reviewer Tim Pfaff notes that it’s being praised for its genre-bending when it would be closer to the truth to see it as a keenly intelligent woman’s riding the range with the skill and flair of a circus performer with a foot on each of two horses. Somehow entertainment seems too small a word.Matthew S. Bajko, Assistant Editor

Violence and the Revolution
"The revolution made progress, not by its immediate tragicomic achievements but by the creation of a powerful, united counter-revolution, an opponent in combat with whom the party of overthrow ripened into a really revolutionary party."
-Marx, The Class Struggle in France (1850)
The question of whether the Revolution (here meant as any meaningful overthrowing of the present state of things, whatever its form) will be violent or peaceful, through the medium of liberal democracy or outside it, used to be interesting to me, but since reading this quote it no longer is. It doesn't matter whether the actual toppling of the world order comes violently or peacefully, it is what happens afterwards. Will the bourgeois let capital be exorcised from its host, or will they fight back. In the video game Disco Elysium by ZA/UM, with dialogue predominantly written by science-fiction author Robert Kurvitz, an old man, a veteran of a failed revolution, talks about capitalism's "mask of humanity". In times of peace, capitalism parades as liberal democracy, hamburgers and endless TV-channels, but when faced with a crisis, this mask begins to slip. In the global north, we very rarely see this slip, because we need to think that everything is alright and that we live in a democracy, but of course our society is built as much on violence as any authoritarian state, we just outsource out violence to the global south. When a political candidate challenges Capital here, Capital does not need to use violence, at least not here --- consider Jeremy Corbyn being subjected to a smear campaign as bombs drop on Palestine. Capitalism cannot simply do away with him, because that might actually shock people out of despondency --- liberal democracy, the human mask of Capital, stays on. Optics in Chilean politics do not matter to Capital, only the flow of resources. If copper stops flowing, they might try some non-violent sabotaging of the economy to turn public opinion against the socialist president, but when that fails (the people who elected him were largely poor to start with, so they might not have perceived the change as much as hoped for), the mask will slip off. But this wasn't just about copper, the important thing was always to enforce capitalist realism (a concept created by Mark Fisher to describe that feeling of anything but capitalism being possible). If Chile had shown the world that, not only was socialism possible, but it was possible through peaceful means, through conventional liberal democracy, other countries would follow suit. If the proletariat of Chile could do it, so could others. So, the CIA backed a coup by the general Augusto Pinochet to "reinstate democracy". Many conservatives in Chile truly believed that this would happen, that the communists would be thrown out and that order would prevail. They were surprised when the junta refused to relinquish power and reinstate democracy. And the global north did nothing to about this. Instead, they sent Milton Friedman's goons to run their experiments on the country. They sent Margaret Thatcher to have tea with Pinochet (a recent example of a similar thing is how Venezuela and Cuba were refused entry to an OAS event, while Biden had a joint press conference with permanently constipated and corona-infected fascist moron Jair Bolsonaro). And of course, this is because liberal "democracy" is simply the human mask, the PR-trick of Capital and capitalism.
So where am I getting with this? To return to the quote that opened this post, I want to leave you with this: however the revolution happens, the counter-revolution will be swift and brutal, and we must be ready for that. They will first try to nip it in the bud, as they did with Corbyn and Sanders. Then they will try to choke the country, to show that the system does not work, like they are doing to Cuba. Failing that, they will do what they did to Allende, what they did to Patrice Lumumba --- they will swiftly and brutally put an end to the revolution. The choice is not ours whether violence will happen before we can come out on the other side --- it is inevitable --- and we must always be ready for it.

— characters: romo & kelia — setting: a dive bar on the outskirts of los angeles ; late evening — partner: @alwaysxangel
It had actually been months since Romo had seen his best friend. They communicated every few days through text and there might have been one phone call but suffice to say it had been a while since they’d really caught up and spent any quality time together.
I met someone. I’ve been seeing this girl. You’ve gotta meet her.
That was something that had nearly become a mantra in the last few weeks of their exchanges and Romo knew with certainty that his friend had to be getting serious about this woman if he was ready and wanting her to meet his friends.
They’d met more than a decade ago. Shortly after Romo’s release from prison and his campaign against the state for his wrongful conviction, he’d come into the tattoo artist’s new shop and the conversation that took place over an hour of ink forged a lasting friendship. One that most wouldn’t have pieced together.
Without a doubt Romo fit the bill of his troubled youth and criminal history. Those tattoos that covered much of his arms, chest, legs, and yes even his neck told the story of gang affiliations as a teenager and then a life of someone trying to make it up from the streets of East LA. His best friend was cut from a nicer cloth; born and raised in a more affluent neighborhood, educated at private institutions, and aside from a few pieces that Romo had done for him was much cleaner on the eyes.
Meet me Thursday night at the bar. I’m bringing her.
So there the tattoo artist was at the bar waiting for the couple to arrive while he sipped on a Corona after a long day at the parlor. At first when his friend had walked in he couldn’t get a good look at the woman trailing just behind him as his friend led the way through the not yet full bar. Romo had left his seat near the billiard tables and stuffed his hands in his pockets as he waited.
Hey man, fuck— we’ve gotta stop leaving months between hangouts, his friend had said as he’d thrown his arms around Romo. A chuckle had left the wrongfully convicted and he was about to voice his agreement when she came into view. For a moment he stared at her blankly his brain in overdrive as he figured that Kelia must be the new girlfriend while he gave his friend a squeeze and then pushed him off.
“Careful now we wouldn’t want your girl to get the wrong impression,” Romo teased managing to look away from Kelia for a moment before his dark gaze returned to her. “This must be the one, huh?”

Will corona virus end any day
The world has been grappling with the devastating effects of the Corona Virus for over a year now. With millions of lives lost, economies shattered, and daily life disrupted, many people are wondering: Will this pandemic ever end? The truth is, no one can predict exactly when the Corona Virus will come to an end. However, there are several factors that can influence how quickly we can bring this deadly virus under control. First and foremost, widespread vaccination is key to ending the spread of the Corona Virus. Vaccines have proven to be highly effective in preventing severe illness and death from the virus. Governments around the world have launched massive vaccination campaigns to immunize their populations and reach herd immunity. The more people who are vaccinated, the less opportunity the virus will have to spread and mutate. In addition to vaccination efforts, public health measures such as wearing masks, practicing social distancing, and washing hands regularly are also crucial in controlling the spread of the Corona Virus. These measures may seem simple, but they play a vital role in reducing transmission and protecting vulnerable populations. Another important factor in ending the pandemic is global cooperation. The Corona Virus knows no borders, and it will take a collective effort from all countries to bring it under control. International collaboration on vaccine distribution, sharing of resources, and coordinated public health strategies are essential in fighting this global threat. Furthermore, ongoing research and development of treatments for the Corona Virus are critical in improving patient outcomes and reducing the burden on healthcare systems. Scientists are continually studying the virus to understand its behavior, develop new therapies, and improve diagnostic tools. Despite these efforts, it is important to acknowledge that the exact timeline for ending the Corona Virus remains uncertain. New variants of the virus continue to emerge, posing challenges to existing vaccines and public health measures. Ongoing surveillance, monitoring, and adaptation of strategies will be necessary to stay ahead of the virus. While it may seem daunting, there is hope on the horizon. Countries that have successfully controlled the spread of the Corona Virus through rigorous public health measures and vaccination campaigns serve as examples of what is possible with determination and collaboration. In conclusion, while we cannot predict the exact day when the Corona Virus will end, we can take proactive steps to bring it under control. Vaccination, public health measures, global cooperation, research, and ongoing vigilance are essential in our fight against this deadly virus. By working together and staying committed to these principles, we can overcome this pandemic and look forward to a healthier future for all. Keywords: Corona Virus, vaccination, public health measures, global cooperation, research.

Aperçu of the week
"How can you govern a country with 246 varieties of cheese?"
(Charles de Gaulle, founding father of the Fifth Republic)
Bad News of the Week
For me as a father, the question has never arisen: when the health service and my personal pediatrician advised me to vaccinate my children, I was always there. That's how it was when I was a child, it's simply normal for me. Besides, even without vaccination I am largely immune to being infected with a conspiracy theory from some bubble. When my daughter did a social year in a kindergarten, I also got to know the context, such as how vulnerable a group becomes when just one child brings in an infectious disease. To prevent measles outbreaks, for example, a vaccination rate of 95% is required.
The UN Children's Fund UNICEF and the World Health Organization WHO are now sounding the alarm. Despite all efforts, the vaccination rate is falling internationally. In the past five years, more than 100 countries have been affected by measles. "Measles outbreaks are an early warning sign. They highlight vaccination gaps and affect the most vulnerable in particular," said WHO chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus. The rate has recently fallen to 74% - yes, that is significantly lower than 95%.
The reasons for this all come from the same absurd direction: during the corona pandemic, the number of people who are skeptical about vaccinations has increased. In addition, misinformation about it has persisted. In addition, healthcare facilities are often mistrusted, especially in poorer countries. Behind this, of course, are Bill Gates, the Deep State, Freemasons, Transsexuals, Jews and extraterrestrial lizard creatures. Which brings me back to my daughter. Who believes that access to education is the most basic human right. Because anyone who takes an interest, informs themselves and then processes the information rationally - after all, media literacy is also part of education - will no longer believe the Easter Bunny's ugly cousins.
Good News of the Week
Tough times for Marine Le Pen. First, the leader of the French right-wing party Rassemblement National (RN) fell back from the expected first place to third place in the parliamentary elections. And now she is in trouble with the justice system. The judiciary has launched a preliminary investigation into Le Pen due to the alleged illegal financing of her 2022 presidential election campaign. According to the public prosecutor's office in Paris, the investigation concerns a campaign loan and the misappropriation of funds, among other things.
Her election campaign in 2017 was already criticized by the campaign accounting commission. And in June, she was sentenced to a fine of 250,000 euros for violations during the 2012 election campaign for the National Assembly. But the traces of Le Pen's corruption are not limited to France: in the fall, she and 24 other defendants will have to stand trial on suspicion of embezzling EU funds.
It is often said that politics is a dirty business. But a banana republic is not usually located in the heart of Europe. I expect the rule of law to function in a country like France. Without exception. It is already clear that Marine Le Pen will run for the presidency of the Grande Nation again in 2027. I am counting on the fact that the stains that the current legal action against her will leave on her clean slate will not (or cannot) be washed out so quickly. And that the French electorate will be more impressed by the legally questionable behavior of a presidential candidate than the American.
Personal happy moment of the week
Last weekend was exhausting. Partly because I walked a good 35,000 steps according to my Apple Watch. But I did it with my children in the beautiful three-river city of Passau on the border with Austria and the Czech Republic. With good weather, a good mood, a decent dose of culture and, above all, lots of food, we spent a lovely dad-kids weekend. Thank you very much!
I couldn't care less...
...that the Kremlin once again claimed that Russia would not attack civilian targets. The images of the rubble on the site of Ukraine's largest children's hospital, Ochmatdyt, the helpers and the terrified children have caused worldwide horror. And the culprit is absolutely clear. The first casualty in war is always the truth.
It's fine with me...
...that Spain won the UEFA 2024 European Football Championships on Sunday evening. They were undoubtedly the dominant team throughout. And it wouldn't be surprising - after all, they are still quite a young team - if they set a new gold standard to measure themselves against in the coming years.
Post Scriptum
You shouldn't wish anyone bad. Not even those who you dislike for good reason or who are even dangerous for the common good. In this respect, the question does not arise, as many critics argue, whether Donald Trump might even have deserved to be shot at. Of course he didn't. Nevertheless, he has to accept that he has also contributed to the "brutalization of the political debate". That he has polarized, vilified, lied, insulted, belittled. And also called for violence in a barely veiled manner. I therefore hope that his now more presidential, moderate, conciliatory tone will continue after this attack. Likewise that of his fellows and opponents. So that political discourse becomes more civilized and cultivated again, as it should be in (not just sporting) competition.

Consistency’s Downside with Playoff Outcast Buffalo Sabres
Remember the eclipse? That celestial ballet from way back last week featured an exhilarating example of getting in the way. Obstacles aren’t as satisfying for a team that never overcomes them. Unlike the Moon blocking the Sun, darkness around the Buffalo Sabres remains. A few stunning minutes of visible corona was more than the roster offered during yet another dang bleak campaign.
If the Sabres hated their fans, nothing would change. The fact they’re presumably trying hard to finish in the top half makes cheering in Hell even more agonizing. The ice keeps melting. If Sabres fans on an alternate DC Comics Earth are coping with active contempt from a diabolical owner, the resulting sense on this version of our planet is identical. Fan Appreciation Night gets funnier every year. I don’t appreciate them.
Extending their own unprecedented mark surely must be an accomplishment. We should feel elated when our beloved club doing something no other has ever done. They don’t keep bad records, right?
A high quantity of an item may or may not be desirable. I wish there were some way to make life less ambivalent. Paula’s sometimes sells a baker’s dozen of the universe’s best donuts for the price of a regular one. See: that’s a welcome 13. By contrast, missing the playoffs that many times in a row may not quite be lucky.
A league set up so half the teams move on features one consistent outcast. This seems like a good time to point out the Sabres seized the right to keep playing during their third ever season.
This failed enterprise violates the first rule of business, namely the need for spending money in order to make it. Trying to run a team on the cheap leads to false economy. Dedicated potential buyers are ready to drop a fortune on the right to sit and watch for a few hours. All ownership has to do is invest enough to make a competitive product. Only hiring staffers who accept coupons is ultimately not a good value. Customers stop buying the product in case Sabres executives still don’t grasp why shortsighted saving fails to pay off.
For a multibillionaire, Terry Pegula is one lousy entrepreneur. Making taxpayers fund his football venue is as close as he gets to shrewd maneuvering, and forcing New Yorkers to invest makes him a shameless welfare deadbeat. Keep working to afford a personal seat license that costs more than a Mini Cooper for the right to pay for the seat itself.
Stealing joy is not a crime, which is why Pegula has avoided probation. He’d make taxpayers post bail. It should be exciting to head to a game yet hasn’t been since around the introduction of the iPad. Forced thrills define a relationship that used to create happiness in the MySpace era. Vague memories of enjoyment are the sole reason to administer a dose of voyeuristic masochism. The fact there are any season ticket holders left is a testament to unabashed loyalty paired with unsubstantiated hope.
Is the Sabres Store still open? I want to get a Donny Meatballs shirt before they sell out. I was a Granato hipster who thought he’d fail from the start. Realistic fans could wish for promising results while suspecting they were never pending. The difference between wanting something to happen and knowing it won’t sums up the team.
There’s no rule against letting an intern change lines. The Sabres have come close to proving such. The innovative franchise’s solution to ending playoff banishment was hiring a first-time NHL head coach whose specialty is developing players who aren’t old enough to buy lottery tickets. If that sounds ridiculous, wait until you hear about the NHL general manager whose last gig was running a hockey school.
Granato is gone from a job he never should’ve held. A firing will have to count as progress. There’s still a looming sense of dread despite taking an important step. In Return of the Jedi, the Rebel Alliance celebrates blowing up the Death Star even though the entire Empire fleet remains. The Sabres are similar, only still surrounded by ineptness.
Obvious ideas may be the best ones. Kevyn Adams wants a coach with experience, unlike him. I suppose he’s right in the same sense forwards should be able to score and goalies ought to stop pucks. I don’t know why the idea of a worker who’s proven he can do the job is only occurring to him now. The evaluations should continue, including of the evaluator. Ask Adams how much time he spends on TPS reports.
Cause and effect combine to be mean. Losses count for a trifling reason like not playing particularly inspirationally. Why should a team never get to compete for a trophy just because others accumulate more points? The elitist system seems arbitrary.
Similarly, you hurt the dear feelings of humans presently connected to the Sabres when you notice when the cool kids stopped inviting them to postseason parties. A franchise that at least featured bouts of semi-success under previous owners turned into an insurance write-off as soon as Pegula got to guide it. He has the worst luck.
So, this is the result of the plan to end the worst playoff outcast streak in league history. You’d think those responsible might feel a bit more desperation. But there’s apparently no reason to panic because they’ve played around a thousand embarrassing games. Kyle Okposo got a special night for that very reason.
Sports teach how intentions mean nothing without actions. Useful lessons aren’t always fun. Ask the owner if he wants to win and he would say yes. A lie detector that worked would back him up. But intentions don’t lead to a Sweet 16 appearance. Ralph Wilson would’ve also claimed he was committed to victories as he tried to pay players with change.
Every conversation about the Sabres revolves around the fact that no other NHL team has ever failed like this. Virtually all lamentations are justified. They truly have been as bad as claimed on social media for this long. Singular woe is the reward for fans who decline repeated dares to quit.
Rotten culture starts at the top. That means ownership, since Terry seems confused. Trading everyone should compete with firing everyone. But personnel transactions won’t necessarily fix a toxic work environment. Nothing changes, by which I mean the boss.
We won’t wake up until those in charge do. The dream of an organization steered by a rich fan with the desire to win has become an endless nightmare. You know a team’s pathetic when missing the playoffs yet again may be the best-case scenario instead of pretending everything’s swell following a first-round exit. One more freaking failed season may finally force a team that needs an intervention to acknowledge hitting rock bottom.
But simple improvements like hiring experienced hockey people then letting them work without interference remain elusive. The drought was unacceptable a decade ago, yet we’re sold the same paltry crops. The owner won’t fire himself.

Corona
For the moment, Corona is having the upper hand in its challenge against Heineken to become the number one imported beer brand. It has been a long time coming given Heineken's (mostly) internal struggles. They relied heavily on one importer (one that did not take the threat of Corona as a new entrant seriously) before they had to acquire the struggling company and impose significant re-orgs, held on to an antiquated brand image of high quality for too long before wavering and changing ad agencies multiple times in a push to get to something new (which is still ongoing), and were overall lacking a clear strategy for the brand in the US. A lot of this could have been avoided with better structures, more research on the market and the consumer, and a better management of its distributor.
Heineken has a very conversative and traditional image at this stage: old school European heritage, high quality, tradition. Corona on the other hand has always been positioned as a fun drink: beach, sun, fun, Mexico - that's Corona. Looking at the ad campaigns, like the picture above there is no Corona ad without a beach. Heineken ads used to be a lot simpler and focused on the product and its quality. It is no wonder that Corona is connecting more with a younger generation to which those themes speak rather than the traditionalist picture of Heineken which has missed the chance to evolve as a brand over time.
