Official John Wick Major Arcana tarot cards featuring Chapter 4 characters
Art by Julien Rico Jr, in collaboration with Lionsgate.
Sources: nerdsloveart, behance
Image descriptions below the cut:
[Start ID: 22 images featuring characters and locations from the movie "John Wick: Chapter 4" as Major Arcana tarot cards. The drawings are in black and white against a sandy beige background, and has plenty of circle motives. Roman numerals are at the top, their corresponding card title at the bottom, and the movie title "John Wick: Chapter 4" on the bottom left margin.
0: The number zero, or unnumbered, tarot card features Killa Harkan played by Scott Adkins as "The Fool". Killa is holding a 2 of spades between two fingers while giving a smug smile that shows off his set of golden teeth. He wears a ring on his right hand and the other hand is holding a stack of cards. Behind Killa is a minimalistic design resembling a casino token with details such as the diamond and clover symbols, as well as the numbers on the dice. In front of Killa is a table with two piling stacks of casino tokens, a gun, and the shadow of John Wick's head looming over a large portion of the table.
1: The number one tarot card features The Tracker or Mr. Nobody played by Shamier Anderson as "The Magician". Mr. Nobody has a smug expression on his face and is holding his rifle in a way that lets it rest slung over his shoulder. By his side is Mr. Nobody's Belgian Malinois. The backdrop consists of simplistic, grayish graphics of map vectors cropped into several circles of different sizes. There is a white-coloured infinity symbol on top of Mr. Nobody's head.
2: The number two tarot card features Rooney, aka The Ballerina, who first appeared in "John Wick: Chapter 3 - Parabellum", as "The High Priestess". Rooney's back is facing towards us as she's performing a ballet move on a circular stage. Rooney is wearing a white crown and a dress that shows the cross tattoo on her back. In the backdrop, where Rooney's face is looking towards, are curtains with the initials "JW" written on the far ends of the frame.
3: The number three tarot card features Katia played by Natalia Tena as "The Empress". With a cool expression on her face, Katia is leaning forward against a set of railings, giving off a domineering aura. Katia is wearing a metallic necklace and a cross on her neck. Behind Katia is the crest of the Ruska Roma and a line in Russian circling around it.
4: The number four tarot card features The Bowery King played by Laurence Fishburne as "The Emperor". The Bowery King is sitting on a throne, but behind him is a pair of eyes staring menacingly at us. In front of him is a logo design with the same pair of eyes, though rendered smaller and appear less menacing, with an X crossed in between and a horizontal line capping the top of the X. At the Bowery King's feet, a few pigeons are shown in the foreground while the Brooklyn Bridge appear in the background.
5: The number five tarot card features The Elder as "The Hierophant". Behind the Elder is an Islamic floral design which extends into a more geometrical pattern. Standing in the background are two of the Elder's men.
6: The number six tarot card features John and Helen Wick, played by Keanu Reeves and Bridget Moynahan, as "The Lovers". John and Helen are smiling brightly towards each other in front of a New York night cityscape backdrop, with the Empire States building separating them at the centre. Above John and Helen is a silhouette of them pressed against each other about to kiss in front of a bright sun with the Brooklyn bridge in the background.
7: The number seven tarot card features John Wick driving his 1971 Plymouth Barracuda as "The Chariot". There is a bullet mark on the front glass pane of John Wick's car. On top is a closeup of John Wick surrounded by a circle of road markings and bullet marks.
8: The number eight tarot card features Charon played by Lance Reddick as "Strength". On top of Charon's head is the infinity symbol, and behind is a design reminiscent of a timepiece neatly decorated with knives, guns and bullets in a circle. Further behind is a faded image of the reverse side of the Gold Coin. Filling the bottom of the frame is the New York cityscape backdrop illuminated by the sun.
9: The number nine tarot card features Caine played by Donnie Yen as "The Hermit". Caine wears sunglasses and is holding a cane in his left hand and a pistol in his right. Caine's head is illuminated by a circle of bright light, which is surrounded by a dimmer, slightly bigger circle with Japanese wave patterns and then large protruding rays of black. In the backdrop are two winding trees along with a city landscape of Osaka, but they are overshadowed by Caine's black rays.
10: The number ten tarot card features L’Arc de Triomphe as "The Wheel of Fortune". The location is illustrated in such a way that looks like a clock, with the monument at the centre and twelve roads leading towards it. Surrounding the Arc de Triomphe are the letters from John Wick's name arranged in the exact order of north-west, north-east, south-west, south-east, west, north, east and south directions.
11: The number eleven tarot card features The Harbinger played by Clancy Brown as "Justice". The whole illustration is framed as if the Harbinger is contained inside an hourglass, with a half-body portrait of the Harbinger at the top and a full-body silhouette of him forming at the bottom from the sand flowing downwards. Behind the Harbinger's portrait is the Latin quote, "si vis pacem, para bellum", whereas next to the Harbinger's silhouette is a crescent moon. Along the sides of the hourglass outside are two duel pistols facing opposite directions on each side.
12: The number twelve tarot card features Koji Shimazu played by Hiroyuki Sanada as "The Hanged Man". Except for his feet, Koji is portrayed as an vertically-inverted reflection of himself on a pool of water. Koji is holding a katana and his head is surrounded by a circle of dim light and a brighter, slightly larger circle made of Japanese wave patterns. As seen in the reflection, behind him are cherry blossom trees and the Osaka city landscape.
13: The number thirteen tarot card features John Wick, aka the Baba Yaga, played by Keanu Reeves as "Death". John Wick is holding a pair of nunchucks in his right hand. Behind John Wick is a city landscape of Osaka lighted by the moon while his head is surrounded by a row of skull pictograms and two rows of bullets. There is also an faded image of the reverse side of the Gold Coin behind John Wick.
14: The number fourteen tarot card features Winston played by Ian McShane as "Temperance". Winston is holding up a wine glass with a capital C labelled on it, and there are multiple swords projecting from his back like wings. Behind Winston is the hotel name "Continental" and numerous halos of various fonts and patterns, along with the cityscape of New York, with the Statue of Liberty and the Empire States building in sight.
15: The number fifteen tarot card features The Marquis, Vincent Bisset de Gramont, played by Bill Skarsgård as "The Devil". Behind the Marquis is his signature emblem with two black knives crossed behind his head. The emblem is surrounded by two rows of knives. In the background is the night cityscape of Paris with the Eiffel Tower in view, illuminated by a moon that is surrounded by a snake or serpent that's chasing its own tail.
16: The number sixteen tarot card features the New York Continental Hotel as "The Tower". The top floors of the Continental Hotel are being set on fire as the small dark silhouette of John Wick and the debris carried along fall from its rooftop.
17: The number seventeen tarot card features Akira played by Rina Sawayama as "The Star". Illuminating behind Akira is a star resembling a six-pointed shuriken with two Japanese stork paintings on its left and right, which is further surrounded by a circle of alternating arrow fletchings and four-pointed shuriken. Akira is holding a bow and arrow and standing tall as the bodies of two men lie dead around her. In the background are the branches of cherry blossom trees and the sun or moon shining behind Akira.
18: The number eighteen tarot card features John Wick's and Mr. Nobody's dogs as "The Moon". The two dogs are staring up at the crescent moon, which is shaped as if John Wick's head is covering portions of the full moon. Surrounding the crescent moon are small stars and a illustration of the cycle of the moon phases. The two dogs are sitting on a road leading into an ambiguous city landscape in the background.
19: The number nineteen tarot card features the Sacré-Coeur as "The Sun". The rays of the sun spread out far and wide as wisps of clouds drifts behind the giant church. A dark silhouette of John Wick can be seen on the top open window of the Sacré-Coeur.
20: The number twenty tarot card features Chidi played by Marko Zaror as "Judgement". Behind Chidi is the emblem of the Marquis with a black knife cutting across behind his head. Below Chidi are the High Table's heavily armoured soldiers who are backdropped by a big splatter of sandy beige.
21: The number twenty-one tarot card features John Wick as "The World". John Wick's back is facing towards us with his head glancing back, showing us his face. Overlayed on top of him is his surname "Wick" with the "I" replaced by a bright silhouette of a walking John Wick. A circle of bullets surrounds John Wick and bullet marks scatter around him as the emblems of the High Table, the Marquis, the Adjudicator, and the Gold Coin fill all four corners of the frame.

Fate Intervenes
Akira x Wick!Reader
For @morbiusmarauder
Tumblr media
The Osaka Continental was under siege. You and your father John Wick, in one of the rare instances, were in the same place at the same time. You were just hoping for a moment of peace with your father but of course, there's no peace with being a Wick.
You and John separated during the fight. You stayed with Akira and Shimazu. You shared little looks of concern with Akira as Shimazu hobbled along.
You exchanged fire with a couple more thugs from the High Table. Akira pulled along her father, "Father we must go"
Shimazu, a man who had been like family to you, clutched his side and shown red on his palm. Akira's eyes locked with yours, pleading.
"We'll get you out of here, sir" you promised as you began the trek down the back way of the Continental.
"Where did he go?" the blind assassin asks the three of you as he blocks the way.
"Caine" you huff, "Shimazu's wounded. Let us pass"
"I can't do that" Caine answers back, "do you know the price of family?"
"They threaten your daughter?" You ask. Akira looks to you and then to Caine in shock.
"Yes." Caine remarks, tapping his sword on the ground. "The one good thing in my life."
"Such is life" you huff. Shizamu takes a stand and readies his sword.
"Let the young ones pass" the older man begs his former friend. "I only speak as a father to another father"
"Please don't do this" Caine's mouth shows a deep frown, one that's bathed in regret as he readies his own sword.
"Sir" you approach Shizamu, "please we'll find another-"
"Protect your family...and mine" Shizamu looks to you, begging you to guide Akira to safety. A little more blood leaks from his wound.
"I am" you answer back before raising your side arm and shooting Caine in the neck. A small dart hits him a split second later.
"They can't hold that against your daughter, Caine." you smirk.
"Be seeing you" Caine smiles as he collapses to the asphalt.
'Be seeing you" you answer back as you grab ahold of Shizamu and limp past the knocked out Caine.
"You keep tranquilizer darts on you?" Akira looks at you concerned.
"Figured they send Caine after my Dad," you admit, "always be prepared for little to no collateral damage"
You load Shizamu into a jeep, Akira jumps in the passenger seat, "I owe you"
"You owe me nothing." you state as you speed out of the Continental. "Gotta get your father some place safe."
"Not that I am not grateful, young Wick" Shizamu winces from the pain, "but that was not exactly honorable."
"I don't think the Marquis de Gramont cares about honor, sir" you answer back as you hold up one of his goon's pins.
"High Table?" Akira readies her own gun
"Some french stooge trying to make a name for himself within the ranks of it." you retort.
"Your father will need your aid." Shizamu speaks up, "both of you" he gestures to you and Akira.
"What do you say, ma'am?" you smile at Akira, "truce?"
"Truce" she smiles back. A small smile made it's way across Shizamu's face.
You'd eventually get Shizamu to the medical attention that he needed. As for you and Akira, the two of you set out to locate Jonathan Wick. The Baba Yaga was going to need all the help he could get.

It's not just the exterior, even though he is hot as fuck
It's the way he speaks.
It's the way he moves.
It's the flow in his dance of combat.
It's the genuine care he has for his friends, but he will do anything for the one he loves most.
Also the CONFIDENCE.

Nobody's Secret Diary [Date: 5/18/15]
Bam! A bolt of white lightning flashed across the sky, pitched black and cloudy.
Guanlin Temple, Luoyang, China.
Amid the darkness of night, men in grey suits are tirelessly digging up something from beneath the ground of the temple compound. The Marquis de Gramont, simply and distantly, watches along.
Mr. Nobody quietly observes by the side, his expression not moving an inch while his pet Cerberus loyally guards him. The fact that the human Tracker hasn't spoken out of turn yet shows how much stabbing his hand had worked.
As if on cue, Chidi, the Marquis' trustworthy ghost bodyguard, approaches his superior with a nod and a report: the coffin has finally been raised.
Pak! The coffin that was closed for 1800 years is now opened. Mr. Nobody looks away out of respect (embarrassment) for a second, but soon turns his head back towards the subject in front of them.
This is the corpse of Guan Yu, the famous military general of the Three Kingdoms period, a paradigm of loyalty and righteousness, whose life was lionised and his achievements glorified that he is deified to this day by the Chinese people as "Guan Di" centuries after his death.
Neither the head nor the body look decomposed. In fact, it remained perfectly intact, its entire face notably looking as red as legends say, at least under whatever amount of illumination the storm lightning provides.
If not for the fact that he had been deified and therefore not rot, these are the signs of someone with the potential of turning into a jiangshi.
Mr. Nobody's journal is right, though the Marquis never doubted it, never doubted his many, many notes would be particularly useful for him on such an occasion.
"Perfect." The Marquis de Gramont declares. Then, all of a sudden, the Marquis bends down his body and bites the corpse's exposed neck.
"Sir!" Chidi calls out in concern, but the Marquis ignores him. Biting until he feels blood dripping down its coarse green robes, he pulls back his fangs and waits for a reaction.
The transformation of the corpse is not unlike anything the Marquis has seen before, but it's still a spectacle to watch. Mr. Nobody looks on in horror.
The corpse stands up on its own, its skin turning into a dead greenish-white, its long fingernails turning into claws and it's teeth turning sharp. It opens its eyes for the first time, its pupils showing a bright silver like moonlight.
Guan Yu has been turned into a jiangshi.
Ringing a handbell, the Marquis orders, "Get out of the coffin."
With a giant leap, the jiangshi hops out of the coffin with ease, impressing the Marquis.
"Good! Very good!" The Marquis laughs. He keeps away the handbell, not wanting the jiangshi to move anyway further, then he asks, "Do you remember who you are?"
The Marquis waits, but the jiangshi doesn't answer, doesn't open its mouth to speak. Mr. Nobody doesn't feel obliged to tell him that, but he knows the Marquis is not stupid and quickly figures that out himself.
"Chicken blood." The Marquis orders. Chidi complies.
When the chicken blood is presented, the Marquis opens Mr. Nobody's journal to a page with a spell on it, takes out an empty paper talisman and traces the illegible calligraphy onto the talisman with the blood before placing it onto the jiangshi's forehead.
"Do you remember who you are?" The Marquis asks again.
Five seconds later, "Who am I?" The jiangshi replies, slowly and monotonously.
"I don't know you, but you are mine now."
Mr. Nobody furrows his eyebrows. His pet Cerberus stirs alert and shifts its attention towards the smell of the Marquis and that unfamiliar corpse.
He told the Marquis of the story of the Oath of the Peach Garden, but of course he will always twist anything good into something sinister for his own agenda. Now, he turns the honourable tale of sworn brotherhood into that of betrayal, something similar to the story of Cain and Abel from the Bible.
"I shall name you, Caine."
OOC Author's Note:
This piece is written from Mr. Nobody's POV. All future writings on Caine's RP blog are intended to be from Mr. Nobody's perspective for the "Creature/Mythology AU". Please feel free to tell me any trigger warnings I should put.
Caine in this AU is Guan Yu whose body was turned into a jiangshi, basically a Chinese hopping zompire. Usually, jiangshi are known for wearing a Qing-dynasty court official's attire, but since Guan Yu originated from the Eastern Han dynasty (about 1400+ years earlier), he would be wearing military armour and hanfu of his time, before the Marquis forces him to wear Western suits.
More lore details on Guan Yu and jiangshi will be dropped later down the road. Just know that many creative liberties are taken. I still try to write as culturally accurate as possible.
It is said that there are actually three tombs for Guan Yu in real life: the Luoyang Guanlin Temple (the location mentioned above) where his head is buried, somewhere in Danyang where his body is buried, and a cenotaph in Chengdu. Due to creative liberties I've taken, his entire body is found in Guanlin Temple.

Koji Shimazu and the Osaka Continental - A Colour Theory
This is meant to be a continuation of the previous analysis I've done on the colour grading/lighting choices for some of the characters in the John Wick movie series, but I've got to dedicate a separate post for Koji Shimazu himself (and the entire Osaka act in general).
Before I go into it though, I would like to recommend you to first check out @evren-sadwrn's analysis [1, 2] on the Marquis de Gramont, John and Helen Wick as well as @bluelolblue's analysis [1, 2] on Santino and John.
Tagging @thewhumpcaretaker, @tobytheeggo, @babayagaiscomingforya and of course @saengak the number one Koji fan on Wickblr <3.
PART I: BLUE/RED
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
When you see the opening shots of the Osaka Continental and Koji's scenes before the raid, the entire hotel was lit by blue and red lights. I think this is very important to note because in the post where I talked about Akira and John, Akira was bathed blue lights in her introduction while John was bathed in red lights in his first scene in Osaka. Add on the fact that Koji's outift has both red and blue colours on it, the movie is already subtly telling us that Koji's loyalty lies in both Akira and John.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I think this just adds another layer to the tragedy that is the whole Osaka sequence. The blue/red lights may allude to one thing about Koji's character but may mean different things for Akira and John's character respectively. Plucking out from @evren-sadwrn's tags:
Tumblr media
For Akira, the blue represents the normalcy of her life before John Wick's red showed up and began symbolising her delving into the path of vengeance and violence, like John himself. However for John, those blue/red lights are just neon lights to him, the Baba Yaga persona on full display as he was beginning to realise the consequences of his rebellion, something which costed his friend's life and inevitably produced another John Wick in Akira.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
PART II: YELLOW
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Now, there are two scenes in the Osaka act that's bathed in yellow lights, the first one being Akira telling Koji about the news of the New York Continental being blown up, and the second being Koji confronting Chidi and the Myrmidons, which could only lead us to one conclusion.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I believe the yellow neon, in this context, represents the Marquis de Gramont and the looming threat he posed to the very existence of the Osaka Continental.
And when you mix blue and red respectively with yellow, well, this leads us directly to the next part of this analysis.
PART III: GREEN/ORANGE
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The Osaka raid started, and the hotel lights changed to green and orange. (BLUE + YELLOW = GREEN, RED + YELLOW = ORANGE)
I know that people have extrapolated that the green not so subtly symbolises the start of the highly-anticipated action that is expected from a John Wick movie, like how the green light of a traffic light means 'go', but I want to extrapolate more meaning from this choice of lighting.
Green is a distortion of the colour blue, and is the opposite of red based on the colour wheel. Going by what we have established above being Akira=blue and John=red, green could imply Koji's choice distorting Akira's desire to keep the peace of their hotel in favour of protecting John and letting him go off alive.
In a similar way, orange is the distortion of red and the opposite of blue. Orange could possibly mean that Koji's choice (and his death) inevitably turned his daughter closer towards a path of vengeance and violence, the path John Wick had taken that Koji himself chastised him for during their meeting on the rooftop.
PART IV: THE EXCEPTIONS
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The locations that didn't turn to green and orange lights in the Osaka Continental is the kitchen and the modern art gallery, both of which stayed blue (and yellow in the case of the kitchen), and that's because none of them featured Koji. Instead, the focus of the these two scenes are given to another character: Caine.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The yellow in the kitchen scene could easily represent Caine being used as the Marquis' weapon during the Osaka siege. For John, we know that neon lights, no matter the color, represent his Baba Yaga side. For Caine, however, what does the colour blue mean to his character in this context, within the Osaka act?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
During Caine's introduction, more precisely, in the only scene in the movie where Mia appeared in (except for the post-credit scene), the location where they filmed had a clear blue sky. In trying to protect Mia, Caine was in a way also trying to protect Akira too. This is especially clear with the way Caine tried to convince Koji countless times to surrender John. Unfortunately, Koji cared for Akira and John equally and was willing to sacrifice his life to protect both of them.
And because he killed her father, Caine ironically became the person Akira held so much anger against from this whole event that happened to her. He fulfilled Koji's wish of letting John escape (hence the green colour), and he was the push that drove Akira to seek revenge (hence the orange colour). Caine was even self-aware of this since he told Akira that he would be waiting for her.
This is what makes the Koji vs Caine duel so fucking tragic and the post-credit scene even more heartbreaking.
