Any just random day to day quirks about greek culture? Like sayings, activities, mannerisms etc
Spitting lightly three times (or a big one xD) towards another person, to bring them good luck.
Crossing random stuff in order for them to work.
Saying secret prayers to ward off the evil eye.
Ordering potatos with EVERYTHING in restaurants
Drinking alcohol in the club at16
“Wanker“ (Malakas) is a pet name for someone close to you.
Hearing nationalists say how we are going to take back Constantinopole.
We have lots of weird phrases to say someone is gay, like “He is whipping the dolphin”, “He shakes the pear tree”, “He trows honey on the doughnut”, “Ηe polishes the doorknob”... You get the idea. More funny expressions in here , here and here.
Our priests and metalheads don’t really differ from each other in appearance.
Clanking our glasses before we drink (NOT when they contain coffee or water)
When something breaks or spills we say “It’s for luck!”
If you eat the last bite off your food “your mother in law will love you”
Eating feta with everything, even watermelon
Talking for HOURS when people are ready to leave our homes. We just stand in the door and discuss!
Complete strangers working for the government will be extremely friendly to you, in a not so delicate way. They may ask unrelated questions, just to pass the time.
All our modern houses and most of our uni classes have airconditioning
Picking fights for who will pay the bill
Wathing elderly men drinking coffee in old traditional coffeshops (not the modern coffee chains coming from the US)
Almost everyone who now lives in towns “comes” from a village so we say “this weekend I went to my village”. Or “my village is X” when we want to say where we come from.
SPEAKING LOUDLY ON THE PHONE
Drinking one glass of frappĂ© FOR HOURS. When it’s almost done we throw more water and TSOUP, WE HAVE MORE FRAPPE!
Drinking frappé as a breakfast and then wondering why we want to go to the toilet.
Our traditional game is tavli (link). We play it when we have free time (usually in summer, on the beach or the porch), older men play it when they are in coffeeshops and uni students play it in their breaks. Now Tichu is more popular for students. though.
Half of us being dissapointed because we didn’t tan at all this summer. We also compare our tans.
Greek men are crazy about football. Many of them gamble in football as soon as they hit 18.
Crossing ourselves when we pass by a church. Once I saw a guy with a frappe on his one hand and the other on the wheel of his motorcycle. As soon as he approached the church he left his ONE hand from the wheel and crossed himself. On a turn.
Going out at midnight to party, getting back in the morning.
If you go out until noon, it is “for coffee”. After 20:00 you go out “for drinks”.
Gyros and Pizza are our fast food top choices.
In our swear words EVERYTHING and EVERYONE is fuckable. Even Zeus.
Men and women alike use “to my balls” to say they don’t care about something
We all know about fierce, black clad Yayas at this point!
By law there are “quiet hours”. I don’t know if that’s a thing in other countries.
You don’t have to face the door when you are in an elevator. Actually, I find facing the door of the elevator kinda weird.
We can be very jealous of each other and antagonistic. But we excel when we go against unknown forces. A Jewish saying goes: “If a Greek opens a shop next to yours, be worried for your business. If two Greeks open a shop, don’t worry at all.”
Random semedakia in your parents house that your aunt/grandma gave
Exclamations: “eeeh” (to ask, to hesitate, to fill the gaps in speech), “aaah” (understanding something), “popo!” (a way to say “wow” even from the ancient years), “poooo” (frustration), “opa” (when dancing folk songs and when you are doing something accidentally, when picking up babies)
To mock someone or to show we are angry with them, we take the last syllabes of his words and make a new word. [ Child: Mama! Mother: Mamounia! (Bugs!)] [Person: Kyria! (Lady!) The Lady: Keria ke livania! (Candles and frankincense!)]
Macho guys with a golden cross shining on their hairy chest (a shirt is optional for this guy). If this guy is also a conservative and ignorant, we call him “Big Greek” (Ellinara) to mock him.
Mountains are fucking everywhere. Even our islands are just really tall mountains.
Google “moutza”
Buying good luck charms with pomegranates for the new year (this year they went to waste)
When someone is getting married or gives birth or talks about their children we wish “may you live!” (I know, we have pretty low standards)
“Cunt“ is actually a positive term to describe a beautiful woman (not very accepted from the ladies, though)
Greeks drive BADLY, especially when they are in an area they know
Being able to read and mostly understand Homeric Era texts and random ancient Greek inscriptions in your town. It’s chilling!
A child’s name is not revealed until the moment the prists shouts it in their baptism in church (only the parents know it). Yes we are that dramatic.
We take our names from our grandparents, just like in ancient years, so grandparents may be offended if none of their grandchildren doesn’t take their name. (And they may react weirdly when they hear another name in church)
I don’t know if lots of Greeks do that but some members of my family and some friends start singing nonsense or folk songs when we believe something bad will happen in the future. My friend: Our deadline was moved 10 days earlier! Me: *sings traditional Greek suicide song*
In happy occassions like Xmas or New Years Eve we gather in restaurants where old folk music about death and hardship plays. Most of the folk songs we dance have such themes. I will never forget the time I realized how normal it was for me to hear “Life ends here” in New Year’s Eve. If we decide not to celebrate outside, we put shows with songs and celebrations on TV.
Calling modern trashy folk songs “dog songs”. If you like those songs you describe yourself as “I am of the dog”
Smoking tobacco is still a big thing. Many young people vape, though.
Generally living close to ancient stuff and having interesting archeological museums. We also have castles, forts and byzantine ruins. (They belong to the cats now)
I have witnessed a Big Greek claiming he would turn gay, after seeing the sublime asses of Kouroi up close (Kouroi are turning your children gay!!1!!1!)
Knowing more about the Greek gods than the Christian Saints
Aunties sending these types of pictures for every new week/month/year/celebration (I appreciate the sentiment behind them but they make me cringe):

What are the different chain designs for men and women?
Choosing the right necklace sounds easy. You know your taste better. But when you go in-depth, you find many variants and colours online and in stores. There is more you should think about than materials and pendants. Consider the types of chains to wear on occasions. It should suit your style and attire.
There are different gold chain designs, and each emanates a different statement. Consider these chain types before visiting the nearest jewellery store or website:
Herringbone chains
It is perfect for your casual outfit or an office setting. This chain is a sequence of flat, short, and parallel links in an offset pattern. The design of this silver chain for men is discrete enough to put a dash of style into your outfit.
Box chains
They lie flat on your skin and includes blocks than circular links. The look and feel given by the jewel article are different. The square links give a sophisticated feeling, no matter how you wear them. You can buy them during online jewellery shopping and surprise your partner.
Anchor chains
They elevate your look, no matter the details of your outfit. It adds a high level of sophistication and elegance. The chain’s links are oval, with a vertical bar in the centre of each link. Also called mariner chains, they resemble an anchor attached to the boat. This variant is popular on online jewellery sites and adds a new fashion statement.
Bead chains
It is possibly most attractive among many gold chains in its smallest form as dog tags. You can wear this with a pendant as well bought while jewellery shopping online. Statement pieces include large beads or a beaded chain necklace combining golden beads and precious stones.
Byzantine chains
Each link in the byzantine chain passes through four others. It resembles and imitates the texture of a rope. This necklace is supple, luxurious, and flexible. It is perfect for men and women shopping for jewellery online.
Cuban chains
Also referred to as Miami Cuban, you find this chain around rappers’ necks. The slightly flattened and close-set links may be large or small as desired. While men opt for a chunkier design, women choose smaller millimetre links and combine them with almost all outfits in their closet. Buy jewellery from a reputed jeweller for the best rates and premium quality. Ensure to take good care of them for durability.

The Hunt for Real Contracting Transformation (co-written by Dennis Smyth)
Change. The mere mention of the word generates multiple emotions. As professionals, particularly in the tech and professional services sectors, we know we’re supposed to embrace it, sell it, and support it. But in the context of OUR internal organizations and operations, we flinch. In fact, some of us get downright petulant, almost reverting to holding our breath and stomping feet. And those responsible for implementing the change – whether it be a procedure, a policy, or a system/app – have to deal with that resistance, while somehow staying on schedule and ensuring broad user adoption. No wonder certain implementers can sound like esteemed Captain Bart Mancuso (played perfectly by veteran actor Scott Glenn in the greatest movie ever made, The Hunt for Red October) when he says “Now if that ___ so much as twitches, I’m going to blow him straight to Mars”.
Tumblr media
Hopefully change-related tensions don’t rise to this level in your company or agency, and your implementation teams are a bit more friendly, mature and flexible. Every change manager should understand that the acceptance of change is challenging.
Some might argue that change is more difficult for certain functions. One of the most important processes in any business is the handling of quotes, proposals and contracts. After all, contracts date back to our old friend Justinian’s law of the 6th century CE/AD as cornerstones of a developed market economy, and have increased in significance, particularly as business increases in complexity. Entitlements, obligations, and value corresponding to each party continue to be captured in contracts, but with the advent of business intelligence tools and sophisticated databases, tactical and strategic advantages inure to those organizations that mine data from their contracts most efficiently. So every large, successful corporation must be embracing contract process transformation initiatives, right? Not even close. Perhaps more than others, contracts, legal, and compliance professionals generally LOATHE change. Go ahead and implement a new HR or finance system, but don’t touch the way we do our jobs! Any lost time, lost information, or even worse, lost document(s) could be fatal to the company (so we think). As Admiral Painter said in Red October, “This business will get out of control
it will get out of control and we’ll be lucky to live through it!” (That’s a bit of an understated response when someone proposes a contract transformation program in MY department, but you get the idea.)
Nevertheless, contract transformation must occur. We’ve established that the handling of proposals and contracts is critical to a successful organization. If that’s the case, it should logically follow that the contracting process must perform at peak operational efficiency and effectiveness, with the best tools currently available. Contracts, legal, and compliance practitioners should never be the “red-headed stepchildren”, using outdated apps and byzantine procedures solely because “that’s the way we’ve always done it”.
The COVID-19 pandemic has challenged every aspect of our society, and contracting processes are no exception. If your department hasn’t gone through a transformation recently, COVID has likely generated a host of reasons to consider changes. For starters, where your team will work is a daily consideration, and the subject of thousands of webinars, white papers, and advisories. Smashing silos between departments is now a necessity, not a luxury from a consultant’s wish list. And completing such a transformation in a timely manner must occur to keep the company afloat. But before any other change initiative is considered, there’s now a sine quo non of transformation in 2021: employee safety. Pressures to return to an office environment will mount as infection rates drop; however, the benefits of in-person collaboration and employee-company stickiness shouldn’t ever trump increased risk to your team’s physical and emotional health. Stay tuned as this dynamic evolves through the coming months of vaccine mandates and booster shots.
Environmental, Social and Corporate Governance (ESG) matters, as well as Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) considerations, are now part and parcel of contracts teams, from the retention of consultants in these areas to the increased utilization of diverse suppliers, partners, and subcontractors within the business. Entire proposal sections on ESG issues may have to be drafted, and contracts professionals may be called upon to provide substantial input into these developing responses. With respect to DEI, our colleagues in the government contracts arena have been utilizing tools to discover, partner with, and monitor/report on the performance of diverse subcontractors for over four decades; the contract formation and management practices used in that market could jump start a team’s ineffective – or non-existent – diversity supplier program. Process and system transformation will need to accommodate these critical areas.
Much has also been written about cloud systems and apps that facilitate remote work, and our blog from earlier this year on Contracts Lifecycle Management (CLM) systems addresses the jewel in the crown of remote contracts work. Collaboration tools, packaged home office setups, and mobile applications should also be considered to replicate the pre-COVID ways of working as much as possible.
In terms of your team’s structure, changes may be required to your wiring diagram to improve efficiency and reflect the dramatically altered circumstances. Schematic adjustments alone don’t often yield tremendous results, but in the current environment, and under the aegis of process transformation, reporting structures should be examined, particularly involving coordination with Legal and Finance departments. The placement of the contracts team – as either a centralized shared service, within a business unit, or in a hybrid structure, is also an issue to be addressed. Substantively, real estate, insurance, supply chain, third party partners in the remediation/testing field, and bankruptcy issues will likely demand equal footing with the typical front-runner of customer contracts.
This blog could go on for hundreds of pages on the topic of change management alone. Mandatory requirements include:
Ø Very public senior leadership support
Ø Transparency from start to finish
Ø Focus initially on managers – their buy-in is essential
Ø It’s all about relationships – don’t ever forget that, and use them within and outside of the process
Ø Develop and deliver training throughout the initiative
Specific transformation activities should focus on:
1. Contracts team performance, as measured against internal SLAs and KPIs
2. Skills of team members
3. Budget management
4. IT systems and apps
5. Terms and fallback position standardization (“playbook” creation, distribution and training)
6. Utilization of external resources and consultants
7. Common project management practices
Best practices in structuring the transformation exercise include the following steps:
Ø An initial diagnostic assessment of functions and then-current performance
Ø Survey of stakeholders and analysis of results against benchmarks
Ø Creation of a new contracting strategy
Ø Assessing IT tools that will facilitate the transformation for multiple years
Ø Messaging the urgent need and advantages of changes
Ø Creation of change agent allies and identification of specific team members for this role
Ø Measuring and monitoring progress
Merger and acquisition (M&A) integration activities must also be reflected in your contracts team transformation program. This includes both previously integrated entities/staff as well as future organizations. A packaged, M&A-centric version of your transformation program must be created as a major quick reaction process with your entity integration plan. This doesn’t have to be an immediate “break glass, pull alarm” response, but as discussed above, should be implemented sooner rather than later given the criticality of contracts to the overall business.
Tumblr media
“Hey Ryan – be careful what you shoot at. Most things in here don’t react too well to bullets.”
Another aspect of change management (at least as taught to us at PwC) is to cajole and convince, but never go in with guns blazing. After all, facts and logic are in ample supply – you shouldn’t have to utilize a scorched earth approach. Does that mean every colleague will warmly embrace the changes? Absolutely not. But verbal bullets fired at your own team members shouldn’t be an option.
Tumblr media
“When he reached the New World, Cortez burned his ships. As a result, his men were well motivated.”
While a Genghis Khan communication strategy shouldn’t be employed, weak, nostalgic messaging that undercuts the transformation and questions the need or approach for change will doom the program. Burn those ships sailing against the initiative. That doesn’t mean all of the prior procedures, approaches, systems, or contract terms were poor, or should be abandoned. But broader statements questioning the need or wisdom of the transformation must be torched.
A lot to consider here but it’s all about moving forward in a way that that improves staff/company morale and performance in a rapidly-changing internal and external environment. As Jack Ryan said in the final scene of Red October, “Welcome to the New World, Captain.”

The Ghosts of Brooks Brothers ENFIELD, Conn. — The bones of Brooks Brothers stores are scattered across 100,000 square feet here in a warehouse near the Massachusetts border, mixed in with a sea of cardboard boxes and junk. There are legions of mannequins, empty circular tables that once displayed neckties, posters of horseback-riding gentlemen from a bygone era. There is a whole section of Christmas trees and countless gold-painted ornaments of sheep suspended by ribbon — a Brooks Brothers symbol since 1850 known as the Golden Fleece. Blank order forms for tailors are strewn about. A neon sign that apparently still works. There is no apparel, but there are rows of heavy sewing machines that most likely came from one of the brand’s recently shuttered factories. And in the bathroom, a welcome carpet with Brooks Brothers written in cursive sits next to a toilet. The whole mass was abandoned here in the fallout of Brooks Brothers’ bankruptcy filing and sale last year, the scraps of a retailer that made nearly $1 billion in sales in 2019. Ever since, the couple that owns the warehouse, Chip and Rosanna LaBonte, has been scrambling to figure out how to get rid of it all. Junk removal companies have told them it will cost at least $240,000 to clear the space, which Brooks Brothers had rented through November. In order to pay the bill, the LaBontes are going to have to sell their home. The couple’s plight illustrates the far-reaching consequences of retail bankruptcies, which cascaded during the pandemic and affected everyone from factory workers to executives. Smaller vendors and landlords have often been left holding the short end of the stick during lengthy byzantine bankruptcy proceedings, particularly with limits on what they can spend on legal bills compared with larger corporations. And once bankrupt brands are sold, people like the LaBontes are typically left in the dust. “It is a very sad situation that unfortunately does happen quite a bit because it is just part of the bankruptcy situation as the statute is drafted,” said James Van Horn, partner and retail bankruptcy specialist at Barnes & Thornburg. “Unfortunately, creditors can become victims, and sometimes they have little or no options to recover what is owed them.” Retailers like Brooks Brothers were prominent among the more than 600 corporate bankruptcies in the United States last year, which had the highest number of filings in a decade, according to S&P Global Market Intelligence. The LaBontes, who are in their 60s, have been working with a liquidator to sell what they can of the Brooks Brothers detritus, and are about to list their home in Sherborn, Mass. While they have filed a claim in bankruptcy court, they are anticipating receiving less than 5 percent of what they are owed, if that — and confessed that the proceedings are hopelessly confusing. Most of all, they are angry and incredulous about the situation, especially as Brooks Brothers continues to operate under wealthy new owners. “We understand going out of business and the bankruptcy, but to dump their problem on us and walk away from it and make us incur this cleanup cost?” Mr. LaBonte said in an interview in Enfield. “Nobody would anticipate an expense like this — we don’t have rainy day money to deal with it.” The couple bought the warehouse in 2010. They said that it was their first foray into commercial real estate and that they worked on residential projects before that. They have other tenants and a self-storage section, but are frustrated about the mess and the fact they can’t use the space for anything else until it is cleared. Brooks Brothers, which was founded in 1818 and is the oldest continuously operated apparel brand in the United States, began renting the warehouse in Enfield in 2011, most recently at a rate of roughly $20,000 a month. (Brooks Brothers also has a corporate office and distribution center in Enfield.) The building, which spans about 375,000 square feet, is held by the LaBontes through KBRC Realty. It’s the firm’s sole holding and the couple’s main source of income. Today in Business Updated  April 2, 2021, 11:42 a.m. ET The office attire segment of retailing as a whole was battered last year as many Americans worked remotely, ditching entire portions of their closets. J. Crew and the owners of Ann Taylor and Men’s Wearhouse also filed for bankruptcy, while sales nose-dived at chains like Banana Republic. Temporary store closures added to the distress, along with the cancellations of special occasions like proms, graduations, weddings and other events. All that led up to Brooks Brothers’ bankruptcy filing in July, one of the most significant retail collapses of 2020. Brooks Brothers had dressed all but four U.S. presidents at the time of its filing, and prided itself on its American factories, which were also forced to close. But investors saw value in the brand, and the retailer was quickly purchased for $325 million by Simon Property Group, the biggest U.S. mall operator, and Authentic Brands Group, a licensing firm. The firms have been buying up a string of bankrupt mall retailers through a joint venture called the SPARC Group, including Lucky Brand denim and Forever 21, leveraging the combination of Authentic Brands’ expertise in licensing famous brand names in various lucrative and creative (and some say equity-destructive) ways and Simon’s real estate portfolio. At the time of the Brooks Brothers purchase, SPARC committed to keep operating at least 125 Brooks Brothers retail locations, compared with 424 retail and outlet stores globally before the pandemic. Under the new owners, Brooks Brothers switched to wire transfers instead of checks, but kept paying rent on the warehouse through November, sending even more goods there as it closed dozens of stores and shuttered its three American factories, Mr. and Ms. LaBonte said. But after Thanksgiving, it sent a letter to the couple rejecting the lease as well as the contents of the warehouse. According to a person with knowledge of the deal, the warehouse and its contents had not been part of SPARC’s purchase of Brooks Brothers. As a result, said Mr. Van Horn said, the new owner most likely has no legal responsibility to the LaBontes. A representative for SPARC stopped returning requests for comment. “They used it for all of their store fixtures, so tables, props, fishing poles, canoes, everything you would see that would go in and out of a store to decorate it,” Mr. LaBonte said. “There’s probably 20,000 square feet of Christmas trees — everything except the actual merchandise.” As to who would want it now: Customers have included local clothing makers looking for mannequins and a set designer from an upcoming HBO series called “The Gilded Age.” Last Monday, an older couple wandered through the space, looking at the Christmas decorations and empty gift boxes. Habitat for Humanity has been looking at the haul for several days and is taking some of the goods. Still, Mr. LaBonte estimated that somewhere around 30 percent of the leftovers have been sold. The liquidator paid the LaBontes approximately $20,000 to sell what they can through mid-April or so. The couple will not receive a cut, and will deal with what’s left. When junk removal specialists assessed the cost of clearing the space in December, one quote was around $243,000 while the other was closer to $290,000. “We’re just another Covid casualty to them, we get that,” Ms. LaBonte said of Brooks Brothers. “But I also don’t think they realized how much stuff was there.” The junk removal firms, which confirmed the prices with The New York Times, said that it was expensive to remove the volume of goods. The costs included labor, multiple trips to dumps, donation and recycling centers, and the use of specialized equipment such as a forklift, large dumpsters and an 18-foot box truck. “I’ve been doing this for seven years and I’ve never seen anything like this before,” said Rick McDonald Jr., the owner of EastSide Junk, which provided the $243,000 quote to the couple. “They left an astronomical amount of stuff.” When Authentic Brands, the licensing firm, announced the purchase of Brooks Brothers out of bankruptcy last year, Jamie Salter, the company’s chief executive, spoke about the retailer’s legacy and its “incredible history.” The LaBontes, confronting a warehouse full of some of that history, were unhappy to see those comments. They put out a statement recently asking: “What kind of heritage can they claim when they operate like low-rent, fly-by-night bullies?” Contact Sapna Maheshwari at [email protected] or Vanessa Friedman at [email protected]. Elliptical Curve and Its Benefits With the bitcoin Mining Algorithm
Most men and women are aware about the algorithm that's part of the hash function, such as how it's done with Scrypt. But, there is another algorithm that is equally as significant. It is called Elliptical Curve Digital Signature Algorithm (ECDAS). It is also a part of this so-called Byzantine Fault Tolerance. In this guide we will discuss about elliptical curve and its relation to the bitcoin mining process.
A long time back when the bitcoins were being released into the market, there was a newspaper that has been written by Venla Karpman called"Bitcoin Mining Algorithm". This is an academic research paper that has been written years before the real release of bitcoins order IBelink BM-K1 for KDA 5.3T 800W. It clarifies how the mining process of bitcoins works. In this algorithm a small number of participants are chosen that hold a high number of virtual computers. They can each concurrently try to solve a mathematical problem that has been posed to them.
The problem is that these computers try to address the problem in order to get a result which will allow them to receive payments from other users of the bitcoin network. These results are recorded in the ledger called the block chain. There are two main types of elliptical curve representing the bitcoin mining algorithm; the Determine Consensus algorithm and the Conflicting Determine Equivalent (CDE). The curve was selected because of its property of utilizing exponentially weighted mathematical functions for discovering the answer to an issue.
The attributes of elliptical curves that are employed from the bitcoin system allows for them to not only handle huge numbers of potential values but they can also work on their own. As an example, among the curves used, known as Diagonal Spline, may be altered to be able to permit for the possibility of using quantum computers. Using quantum computers will allow for an increase in the speed with which information can be processed and delivered to various computers. With sufficient computing power a person could potentially be able to create what's called a'virtual machine' where one can function with coins as money. This would allow for free trades and global money flows without the need for a physical machine.
Among the advantages of utilizing the elliptical curve connected to the bitcoin mining system is that it functions nicely with lots of variables. First, because it uses an exponentially weighted mathematical function, it makes it easier to calculate the hash function parameters by taking into consideration a large number of variables Buy IBelink BM-K1 for KDA 5.3T 800W. Additionally, with a high number of variables being used, there is a good possibility that an error will occur. That is the reason there is a maximum limit as to how many bits can be placed to the digest of the transaction. Therefore, the danger of an error when calculating the parameters of the hash function is significantly reduced.
In short, an elliptical curve with its large number of factors allows for the creation of a unique algorithm for the bitcoin exploration system. The principal benefit to this is that it decreases the chances of an error when computing the nonces used in the trade. Miners are subsequently able to use these to securely send a transaction to another consumer with complete confidence that the trade is valid.

Buying gold jewellery is one of the best ways to reap more from your savings while you get to flaunt them too. Gold chains can be unisex and can be worn by men and women alike. Depending on your budget you can buy gold jewellery as there’s a style for every pocket and taste.
Gold shopping has traditionally been a store/outlet based event, however, the fast moving trend of online stores has re-invented the concept of jewellery shopping, giving a new avenue and improved sales for the industry.
Most of us believe in going to our trusted jeweller or a legitimate jewellery website, browse through the collection and look at the critical specifications while buying our pick, however many of us are seldom aware of the style options available and have minimal or no insight about them, especially when it comes to gold chains.
Surprisingly a regular gold chain can have several styles, where the variation comes from the structure and the design of the chain. The most prominently available styles are.
·  Figaro
A style where two to three small circles of gold are linked with an elongated oval structure and the pattern continues thereon. The origin of this style can be traced to Italy. Often worn by men, this can be worn just as a chain or along with a pendant.
 ·  Rope
Oval links are interwoven together by twisting strands of gold to create a rope like effect for these chains. These are quite sturdy and lasting and can be worn by either sex as they are subtle to look at.
 ·  Cable
Oval or circular links are connected to each other with every link being at a perpendicular angle to the next, to create a cable chain. These kinds of chains are the most common version available in the market.
 ·  Herringbone
This type is one of the sturdiest chain arrangements owing to its placement. To create a herringbone chain, V-shaped links are placed entirely flat, one after the other with every row alternating in direction.
 ·  Ball
As the name suggests, these are chains, created using ball like small circles strung together using metal to create a chain effect. The ball structures could be hollow or solid depending upon the intended weight of the chain.
 · Byzantine
Sequences formed using pairs of vertical structures linked to horizontal structures create the Byzantine chain. The origin of this style can be traced to the 5th century and has a beautiful vintage feel to it. An aesthetically crafted pattern, it is quite flexible and appealing to the eye.
 ·  Mariner
Also known as the Anchor chains, these are the strongest variety of the gold chain. The effect is created by using oval links which are placed one after the other. These oval links have a vertical bar at the centre of each link. Arrangements can be vertical or horizontal

You’re Buying Jewelry Wrong: Advice From Fiona Druckenmiller
Ah, the holidays.
It’s the perfect time to buy something significant for a special person—you know, show them you care. And it’s the perfect time to freak out about how, exactly, to do it.
Jewelry is an intensely personal way to express style, even for men. (Don’t try to tempt your tweed-wearing friend with an Apple Watch—he will recoil.)  If you’ve got someone in your life with even the barest shred of personal style, approach the endeavor with eyes wide open and ears curled toward every hint of preferences that float your way.
It is possible to win this challenge. It just takes some effort.
The main thing is to know what you don’t know. So I met Fiona Druckenmiller at her Upper East Side shop to  seek her best advice for buying gemstones. She’s got credibility: As one-half of the multibillion-dollar Druckenmiller fortune, she presides over FD Gallery, a six-story townhouse full treasures from the likes of SociĂ©tĂ© Cartier, Van Cleef & Arpels Inc., JAR, Verdura, Hemmerle, and Viren Bhagat. Walk through the heavy, double-door portal and you’ll find yourself amid glittering items worth hundreds of thousands of dollars apiece. Her clients range from Upper East Side doyennes and French financiers to young, Asian entrepreneurs and Italian barons.
Druckenmiller wants to make it clear: “Just because you’ve bought an engagement ring doesn’t mean you know how to buy gemstones.” It’s solid advice, and a great place to start. Here’s what else you need to know if you are in the market for some seriously fancy jewelry.
You can’t eyeball quality
Do you know the difference between heated and unheated rubies? Can you spot an emerald that has been oiled, vs. one that contains no oil? Probably not. But those enhancements greatly affect the value of stones.
“People have been heating stones for hundreds of years to enhance the color,” Druckenmiller says. “But a Burma ruby that is unheated is going to be worth 10 or 20 times as much as a heated ruby from Africa.”
As for emeralds, many have little fissures in them, because emerald can be brittle. Jewelers often use oil to make the cracks less visible. So an emerald with no oil will naturally be more valuable than one that has been altered.
“It’s not something you can look at and tell,” says Druckenmiller. “People just don’t know. It’s not that they’re wrong to buy them. It’s just inexperience.”
The best way to find out what kind of quality you’re dealing with is to inquire, simply and directly. Question the seller as to where the jewel originated  and how it has been treated. Ask to see the certification papers. And bring along an expert, or a well-trained friend, to act as backup and offer a second opinion.
Even if you have a lot to spend, don’t assume Madison and Fifth avenues are the best places to shop
While such brand-name emporiums as Harry Winston Inc., Tiffany and Co., and K. Mikimoto & Co. offer plenty of beautiful and expensive pieces, they also build additional costs into their prices as well. Glamorous stores require hyper-expensive real estate, with advertising campaigns and red carpet events costing millions each year. It’s all built into the cost structure of each big brand.
What’s more, these brands don’t necessarily offer the highest-quality stones. (Also keep in mind that lower-end big-box jewelry stores sell stones grown in laboratories, a practice so pervasive that this year the Diamond Producers Association launched a marketing campaign called “Real is rare” to emphasize the importance of genuine stones and to bolster business, especially among millennials.)
For instance, Mikimoto sells plenty of cultured pearls. The value of a cultured pearl can be just 10 percent that of a natural pearl. If you want the most natural, rarest item at the best price, you may want to look elsewhere.
“Learn as much as you can and find a trusted source, who also could help you learn,” Druckenmiller says. To find the best authentic items at fair prices, visit small, boutique shops and trustworthy private dealers, as well as auctions and estate sales.
At auctions, be persistent
If you do take your chances at public auctions and sales, be prepared to go up against dealers, retailers, and brand-name houses such as Cartier and Van Cleef, which often buy back important estate- and museum-quality jewelry to keep in their archives and exhibit worldwide. Why wouldn’t they? The supply of significant jewels and gem stones dwindles every year, thanks to inevitable loss, irreparable damage, and collectors who squirrel items into private coffers.
The major gem auctions—think Sotheby’s, Phillips, Bonhams, Christie’s—typically start in November in Geneva and run through December. Industry insiders who attend them “will be very involved” in the first group of auctions, Druckenmiller says. Then they retreat.
“When it gets to be a week before Christmas, they have likely already spent their money or they have gone on to other things—so you can find bargains,” she says. “This will even happen just at the later end of night sales, when they are dropping out, or their attention wanders. But you have to be lucky. It’s a matter of being really vigilant.”
Refuse to accept old or inferior certificates of authenticity
When you talk to a dealer or retailer, always request certificates of authenticity for any gem.
Look to ensure that the lab certification is from a trusted source (the Gemology Institute of America is the most reputable). GIA’s certification confirms the geographic origin, grade, and quality of stones after the institute has determined an item’s gemological identity, alterations, and origin. The place where a gem originated is important because certain countries, regions, and mines are renowned for the quality of their stones.
It’s also vital that certification papers are current. Two years old? Fine. Ten years old? Not acceptable.
“If you go to a dealer and they try to sell you a ruby or a sapphire, and they show you a certificate that is from 2008, I wouldn’t trust it,” Druckenmiller says. Lab technology has improved exponentially in recent years.
“I have seen labs that said in 2008 that a ruby is from Kashmere, but now we are finding out it’s from Madagascar,” she says. “That stone from Africa is worth a tenth of what it would be worth if it was from Kashmere.”
Don’t underestimate the law of supply and demand
As mentioned above, the supply of top-notch vintage Cartier and Van Cleef jewelry and valuables declines yearly. But buyers in Asia continue to feed the region’s voracious demand for known and historic brands, including those and Tiffany, Hermùs International SA, and Chanel SA.
The imbalance elevates prices.
“It’s the historic names they know, so every year in those niche markets, the demand goes up and the supply goes down,” Druckenmiller says. This is markedly different than buying something in a modern retail store, where lab-grown gems and cultivated pearls, plus costume-style jewelry and altered stones, can be supplied indefinitely.
Combat this by focusing your eagle eye on auction results. Those can give a good indication of current market rates.
“One thing you could do is ask whoever you’re working with, whatever jeweler you go to, if they have a shop: ‘Can you show me auction comps for similar items?’” Druckenmiller says. “That’s a really good way to get a yardstick on valuations. So if you’re looking at a Cartier Art Deco diamond bracelet, and you see a similar auction result, it might not be exactly the same piece, but if the width is the same, it can give you a good idea for what something similar might be worth.”
If the dealer won’t share auction comps with you, walk away.
Know your audience
The biggest stumbling block to buying jewelry for someone else often comes from simple oversight—buying a piece, such as a ring or bracelet, that doesn’t fit the personality of the receiver.
“Try to understand the lifestyle of the person you’re buying for,” Druckenmiller says. “Is she active? Does she use her hands for her job? That person might need something more lightweight, or made from more durable materials, than someone who [leads a more manicured] life.”
Titanium, platinum, and diamond are options more rugged than, say, garnet, opal, and gold.
If the person you’re buying for often wears big rings and chunky bracelets and necklaces, it’s a good bet she’d like more in a similar vein. If she tends to wear only delicate stud earrings or a thin band around her ring finger, it’s likely she’s a minimalist.
She might even prefer a wristwatch, Art Deco box, or vintage cigarette lighter to traditional jewels. Notice what jewels she wears—if she wears any at all—and select your purchase accordingly.
Do a little research into history
Do your homework. It pays to know the history of jewelry, especially as it relates to fashion and culture. Before YSL and LaCroix were sending Byzantine-inspired costume jewels down the runway, Coco Chanel did it. And she did it best: Chanel’s baubles, brooches, and chains inspired generations of fashion designers in the 1970s and ‘80s. Her work carries more cachet, especially if previously owned by someone notable—a royal or a celebrity.
It’s very simple, Druckenmiller says: “Age adds to value. And provenance matters.”

DIFFERENT TYPES OF CHAINS FOR GANESHA PENDANTS
A chain is nothing but a set of rings, beads, discs or links interlocked with each other. Since many centuries, chains serve to be an alternative to ropes. While chain links are crafted manually, tools are used to craft modern designs. Over a period of time, many individuals have mixed and matched many combinations to show off their own style. Here are different types of chains you can complement with Ganesha pendants.
Cable Chains
Known as ropes in Norman French dialect, cable chains are popular among men and women. Since these boast simple designs, they can be created by interlocking oval links differing in sizes. They are easier to make and look great with delicate pendants.
Rolo Chains
With a style similar to a cable chain, rolo chains comprise of interlock circular links. Since the links vary considerably with respect to their structure, the chain is slightly complex. It may take some time when an intricate design is concerned. Rolo chains always look great with office wear pendants.
Curb Chains
The word ‘curb’ originally means ‘a curved piece of wood’ in English. Curb chains are much different when the appearance is considered. These have curved links which interlock when laid on a flat surface. The links can either have the same size or differ towards the center. Such type of ornament is widely used when trendy urban designs have to be manufactured.
Figaro Chains
A Figaro chain is nothing but a modified version of a curb chain. These are available in patterns with small and long links placed at alternate positions. Such trinkets draw inspiration from famous operas and plays organized in Italy. Figaro refers to a barber who was the protagonist during shows.
Marine Chains
Synonymous to nautical chains, marine chains feature oval links with a centrally located horizontal bar. These lend a fantastic visual appeal because links can be interlocked or laid flat just as it’s with curb chains. Browse online portals to scope out the best option for a particular pendant.
Byzantine Chains
If you desire to sport a vintage look, then you should prefer the Byzantine style. While the chain festoons your neck, a woven texture can always be perceived. The pattern is complex because round links are arranged at different angles.
Bead Chains
If you wish to put on ball shaped links, then a bead chain should be included in your shopping list. As the name suggests, the chain has beads across a thin metallic string. Apart from serving as ornaments, these are used as key chains and dog tags.
Herringbone chains
Crafted from v-shaped links, a herringbone is a chain that resembles a structure of a herring fish. While these have gained popularity in the textile industry, they also help in enhancing home décor ideas. You can always think about these when you buy diamond pendants online.
If you hardly have the time to visit a jewelry, shop then you should always shop online. Your experience would be remarkable when you discover an array of options.
