some personal thoughts under the cut, im salty oopsy doo

attitude city cuts off so many little nice comedic quips that i love this song for (the whole ‘ninja brian, can you lay down a sick flute solo for me? thank you’ for example) and just in general the general vibe of the song is not so. over the top supposedly badass as the original. sorry not sorry. i give it to tho, the instruments sound absolutely amazing (through the whole album really, twrp definitely brings it here) and the lyrics are much better pronounced. other than that, this song really didnt need a remaster, i dont understand why its here tbh. its too new for this, even if the original album is from 2015

again, unicorn wizard is missing some of the original comedy quips. the whole soup bit at the beginning is one of my faves. :( i do kinda understand why they cut so many of them from this album as they were very music video specifics, but they are also very much part of the songs and their stories. also just in general the chorus doesnt have the positivity unicorn vibe for me anymore. its like. extremely obvious how much better dan has gotten at singing tho, which sounds so freaking good, but theres just something missing from this that made the original so magical for me. maybe im listening to this through some rose colored... hear pieces idk cause unicorn wizard was my first and is one of my absolute faves, but i just dont really vibe with this the same way. it sounds amazing as a standalone, but as a remake, i just. cant

party of three is the only one of the newer songs i fully accept on this list tbh. mostly cause it has. i described it to myself as a “date night feel”, which is the whole point of this song. and it just fits really well. twrp fucking slaps and the c part before the final chorus? i screamed out loud. that was always my favorite part of this song, and holy sHIT the remake version is giving me even worse goosebumps. god im gay. also they kept at least a few of the quips on this which is. the best

Hi okay so i was trying to go to sleep but i started thinking about Things which ultimately led me to remember your long aza post and basically im pretty sure prefixes can get shortened when theres two of the same vowel in a row (also in other cases but idk why)

Idk i know shortening them is a thing and ma’ goes to m’ but im also not totally sure about the criteria that must be met for the prefix to be shortened however not shortening it probably wouldnt be /against/ the lore and instead might just be seen as a bit odd

Just out of curiosity I did a little extra looking- from digging through UESP and the Ta'agra project, it seems like the only really steadfast rules on names are about prefix capitalization, gender differences and the fact that honorifics are generally a one-per-person thing, lest they appear tacky. That being said the naming conventions shift ever-so-slightly between games (theres a real back and forth on the existence of surnames, for example) so the whole thing's just kind of a big ??¯\_(ツ)_/¯??

S'far as doubled up sounds go, I could only find examples of double vowels in names without the prefix being separated, but lots of doubled up consonants. Just from comparing instances where stuff's shortened in general, I think it seems to be based on what sounds better? A lot of Ja's get shortened to J's for no discernible reason other than maybe reducing visual clutter or ease of pronunciation (although things like J'zargo and Ja'zargo seem like they'd be pronounced essentially the exact same) so it mmmaaaaaayyyy just be stylistic?

sonic and languages aka the only thing im canon divergent on?

sonic grew up around three languages, but the large mayority of his influence comes from english and spanish. christmas island was v small but still managed to speak both relatively equally (i say relatively because there was a little more spanish than english), so while sonic’s mom (the puerto rican side of his family) was mute, he didn’t have a shortage of spanish-speaking influences who spoke with similar accents to what bernie would have hypothetically had. 

because of this dual-language upbringing (+1 but i’ll get to that in a bit), sonic used to mix up both languages a lot (starts out a sentence in english and ends it in spanish, for example). he’s a lot better about it now but when he’s too tired or just not There Mentally he’ll trip here and there. he also like. sometimes tries to turn english words into spanish and viceversa that sound similar to begin with (for ex. scorpion in spanish is escorpion, but sonic might say ‘scorpion’ in a spanish accent and a spanish sentence thinking thats the correct word. this isn’t the best example but i cant think of any other off the top of my head?).

as to HOW he speaks spanish he. talks. pretty fast? the predominant accent he was brought up around was puerto rican and that tends to be a little rushed and clipped, so just how he eats letters in english he eats A Lot of letters in spanish (in particular he doesnt say the s at the end of spanish words like half the time). ‘claro que no’ (of course not) becomes something like ‘cla’o que no’. he also mostly knows puerto rican slang but is also familiar with some mexican slang words. spanglish is his unofficial extra language but i think that’s a given fvgbhjnhbg 

as for the +1, sonic’s dad was japanese, and he talked to sonic in japanese and taught him how to speak it. it wasn’t nearly as extensive as sonic’s english and spanish influence, particularly because jules didn’t want to overwhelm him by expecting him to be completely fluent in 3 languages when he was young despite having a knack for learning them. still, sonic picked up on it well enough given the circumstances, and could carry simple conversations (could NOT read it though). after jules died, though, that source got cut off, and even if anyone else in his life was willing to teach sonic, sonic just. flat out didn’t speak to anyone outside of his mom, and when she died, he just stopped socializing altogether. he picked up learning japanese again when he started to talk to people again, and while it’s his least profficient language, he can speak it well. still kinda struggles reading and writing it though (his japanese is SO illegible)

because of all this while spirit’s voiceclaim is roger craig smith, a little bit of his spanish accent bleeds into his english. because All of sonics friends speak english, his spanish accent has slowly stopped changing his english less and less. sonic was brought up on spanish+english but most of his hand to hand socializing and conversations have been english which has changed the way he pronounces stuff. it’s there tho, don’t get me wrong. his japanese doesnt impact his spanish and english so much as the other way around, accent wise.

this is my oc thom$on (pronounced thom dolla son) feat. my bad art. as you can tell, he likes money. prewar, he was a rich man who threw himself into becoming successful in order to mentally and physically escape from the trauma in his childhood. he closed himself off emotionally and never let anyone close to him until years later. he has ties to many shady government operations, perhaps most prominently west-tek’s FEV experimentation.

hes a ghoul in every game except 76, and always wears his money leather jacket. he keeps his mustache and a bit of his hair even though he’s been ghoulified. he has a deep voice with a southern accent (like a mixture of augustus autumn from fo3 and augustus sinclair from bioshock 2). hes pretty overweight even as a ghoul bc i say so. skinny thom$on is cursed

MMMM WHERE DO I BEGIN I have been over the moon since I first heard Miyano in the trailer a while ago and I just shrieked SETSUNA?! and I instantly knew this shit was gonna be G O O D and then I found out he was gonna be voicing tired millenial Peter Parker and I was like ???? 

Before you remind me of how incredibly dorky other Miyano roles were in animes that I haven’t watched and probably won’t watch, let me tell you that I was very iffy at first bc my experience with this dude is usually sexy bishounen kind of characters and I feared some of Peter Parker’s character would get lost in dubbing but then clips started coming out and I was on the fucking FLOOR MY DUDES MAMO BABY IM’ SORRY I EVER DOUBTED YOU MY MAN.

Y’all also wouldn’t believe the DELIGHT I felt when I realized Yoshino Hiroyuki (Allelujah’s seiyuu, who I am currently really into lately) was gonna be voicing SPIDERHAM LIKE I COULDN’T ASK FOR A BETTER DUB FOR JOHN MULANEY THAN THIS MAN IT MADE ME SO HAPPY DFSJLEFF

Ono Kensho was a SOLID choice for Miles, but the scenes we’ve scene don’t really show a lot of Miles’ dialogue and I can’t WAIT to hear him show some raw emotion and to hear his take on afew dorky scenes I ADORED in the fucking movie. Yuki Aoi doesn’t get a lot of dialogue either in the clips I’ve scene of the dub but I would trust her with my LFIE my dudes I cant’ WAIT to hear her Gwen!!!! 

All in all I’m excited and hoping I can get more of a glimpse of the japanese dub-Into the Spider-verse might be one of my favorite movies ever and there was so many layers to it and interesting things and I hope the japanese public gets to enjoy it as much as I did (because god KNOWS I enjoyed this fucking movie it was like the cinematographic equivalent of a delicious lasagna!!!)!!! And with such a good cast I’m almost sure they will!!!!

I AM a lil bit worried about losing details on Mile’s latino side-like for example in the latinamerican dub I had to watch, one never really gets to notice that his mother talks to him in spanish because. Well. It’s in spanish. And the dub is like most latinamerican dubs made in mexico so the fact that he’s not. Mexican. Kind of gets lost and it took a lot of charm for me out of those particular scenes? I do wonder if stuff like that might get lost in the japanese dub too or worse-replaced by a terribly pronounced attempt at spanish by a non native actor which is something I resent sorely when done in most pieces of media as a latinamerican whose first language is spanish but that might just be me I guess
