honestly I don't like takes that are "Oh garak was fully or mostly lying in ASIT" because a lot of people putting forth that interpretation are basically pulling the "it was all a dream", while furthering a "welcome to my twisted mind" characterization of Garak. Like if you're going to do that, just denounce that it's canon at all and act like he didn't write it. And definitely fuck off with the "Tain didn't abuse Garak at all and any time its implied he did Garak was lying" thing, that's not betacanon, that's you being an asshole and not understanding how fascist family dynamics are built around abuse.

Raising your child in a life of violence like #That of a mafia family is pretty often abuse actually #And fascists- look fascists act like men like Steven Crowder. At best they emotionally abuse their families and the structure of fascist #Societies strengthens that abuse and trains those who grew up in it to perpetuate it #I also dislike people who turn garak into a wet mop of a man and don't acknowledge how some of the affects of his childhood made him #Violent towards others not just himself #But fully arguing garak was not abused and that its woobification doesn't help abuse survivors #Like this is completely seperate from the fact that I like ASIT and think it has untouched on themes that make Garak VERY interesting
