Oh to be able to be able to wake up with someone who calls you beautiful and then want to wreck you...

Miria crossed her arms, leaning against the back of the deck chair as Cid talked on holo. She didn't even look at the trandoshan as she spoke. "I don't know what's got you guys so twisted."
"We were stranded on that planet, Cid. And you left us!" Omega sounded as bitter as her general felt.
"And now you're not. Plus you got your ship back."
"No thanks to you." Wrecker grumbled.
"You want to mope or make money? I've got Intel on a wreck worth salvaging."
Miria pursed her lips. "You want to employ us again after you abandoned us?"
"Don't give me that, Stripes. After all I've done for you."
"I suppose you think I should be grateful you left my family marooned on a hostile world with less than three days rations, where we were nearly killed in your mine, and then almost enslaved by a madman exploiting children?" Miria finally gave her a look, right down her little button nose. "Not a single clone on this ship is ever going to be a slave again, Cid. I don't care what I have to do to ensure it. I'd think you'd feel the same, after all we've done for you."
Cid wilted a little under the woman's stare. "Thirty percent cut of something big would be worth your time."
"Thirty percent is our standard rate." Tech looked up from his datapad.
"You're not impressing me, Cid." Miria huffed.
"Thirty-five. For the trouble."
Hunter scoffed. "Yeah, sure." He looked at Miria, who looked unimpressed and had started examining her fingernails.
"Forty, then."
Omega made a face, shaking her head. "After what you did?"
"Stripes, work with me here. You were a Jedi, you know the value of a good information broker."
Miria huffed. "The Jedi had the best of intentions, but that doesn't mean they didn't make errors in judgment. I'm beginning to wonder if you were one of them."
Cid groaned. This ragtag band of misfits had been driving a much harder bargain lately, since Miria got back from Thule with an attitude to bely her height. The clones rallied right around her. "Fine. Fifty percent, as a token of my goodwill."
Omega looked up at Miria. The former Jedi shifted, cocking her hip. "Send the coordinates, then."
"About time you see reason. Don't come back without something worth scavenging."
"I'm surprised you think we'd come back at all." Hunter leveled her with a sharp stare.
"Don't test me, Bandana. Just get the job done." Cid hung up.
"She's starting to wear on my nerves." Miria said mildly. "Maybe we shouldn't go back."
"Severing ties with Cid would be exceptionally difficult, given the information she has about us." Tech grumbled. "It may be wiser to consider this a final mission for her, and leave on good terms."
"She did have a point about a good information broker." Hunter sighed.
"I'm sure Uncle would make a more reliable substitute." Miria shrugged. "What did she send, Tech?"
"Only coordinates, without any transponder data or cargo manifest. And nothing on the cause of the ship crash."
"Limited intel again." Wrecker groaned.
"As usual." Miria sighed. "Wonderful."
"Scavenging a wreck can't be that hard." Omega grinned.
Hunter sighed and shook his head. "Let's get this over with."
"Looks like the ship crashed near a village." Wrecker looked up at the plateau of lights from homes in the distance as they stepped out of the Havoc Marauder.
"That is likely how the crash was reported so quickly." Tech nodded.
Miria stood next to Wrecker, looking at the lights for a moment. She wondered, as she often did, about the families inside. Were they sitting down to dinner, telling each other about their days? Mothers and fathers would soon be putting little ones to bed, kissing them goodnight and singing lullabies to soothe them into sleep.
If the galaxy hadn't been swallowed by the Empire, she might have been doing the very same thing. She'd either have a newborn in her arms or be still round with child, content in a rocking chair by a fireplace. It laid itself out so inviting to her mind's eye; the warm stone hearth of the parent's farmhouse casting cozy and nebulous shadows around the room. Annalise would be bringing her tea as she knitted and rocked, fussing in her loving way about Miria not overtaxing herself. Argais and Jet would be laughing about it, Irene trading war stories with the team while Aram listened in between pages of whatever galactic law book he was studying and Omega looked at them with starry eyes. Crosshair’s hands would settle on Miria's shoulders when he entered the room, her head would come up to look at the look of faint delight and pride replacing his usual grumpy disinterest. Maybe, if she pulled his hand down from her shoulder to her belly and Mayrin kicked, he'd even smile…
Doesn't that sound so much better than this, my love? Wouldn't you rather live that way? We could still have it, even now. It would be different, maybe, but it would be ours.
She pushed the image through the battered but unbroken bond between herself and the sniper, a silent plea once again for his return. No matter how she hardened herself to survive the tempest the galaxy around her had become, she was still Miria Halcyon. She still dreamed of a quiet and peaceful existence, one that some might call diminished after her role in the war and after.
It wasn't diminished to her. It was everything worth having, and worth fighting for.
"The ship appears intact on the scanners, so the cargo should be simple enough to transport." Tech nudged her lightly, noticing the faraway look in her eyes. She nodded and put her helmet on, shaking the melancholy off her skin.
"Lead the way." She murmured, tearing her eyes from the village.
When they reached the crash site, Hunter put his hand on the hull. Wrecker made a concerned noise. "No markings."
"That's unusual." Miria frowned. "What in the Force was it doing before it crashed?"
"Judging by the hull damage, it is likely the crew all perished. They will not be able to tell us." Tech shrugged, working to get the hatch open.
"They could be trapped inside. We should check." Omega pleaded. Miria was forever amazed at that kind heart the little girl had, that never seemed to waver no matter what she saw.
When the hatch opened, they carefully moved in with their blasters out. It was eerily silent, like a tomb.
"Sense anything, Miri?" Hunter frowned.
"Something is alive… but what I can't be sure." She frowned.
"Hey, check out out! High-volt electrostaff!" Wrecker, never one to be made dour, picked the weapon off the floor.
Miria shifted her grip on her rifle and touched the wall as she leaned to get a closer look. Her fingers met deep gouges in the durasteel instead of smooth plating. "Oh… oh dear."
"Something unfortunate happened here." Tech whispered, his head lamp illuminating the claw marks.
"Whatever did this wasn't human." Hunter suppressed a shudder.
"I will go to the bridge and restore power." Tech volunteered, quite eager to hurry this mission along. This place gave him the creeps.
"Alone?" Omega squeaked.
"Your concern is unwarranted. I will be fine." The genius reassured her before walking out.
Omega looked at Miria. "Why is he like this?"
"He's a Mandalorian, my dear. We're all like that." She waved for Omega to follow her and Hunter down the opposite direction, with Wrecker at the rear.
They entered a large room in the center of the ship, and even in the darkness they recognized laboratory equipment. Miria stood in front of a large containment tank, shuddering as the prickly feeling that she knew well returned to her. This felt like the labs on Kamino, the place clones were birthed and changed to be better soldiers no matter how they felt about it. This was the kind of place Crosshair had been taken after Kaller, where the Kaminoans made the chip in his head stronger.
Where the man who'd once said he'd beg for her life had gone to die.
"This is Kaminoan cloning technology, but it looks different from what I saw in Tipoca City." Omega confirmed.
Hunter hit his comm, thoughts wandering the same way as Miria's. "Any luck, Tech?"
"The bridge power will soon be restored." Their brilliant inventor replied.
"These walls are reinforced." Wrecker frowned, touching a flashlight left on the ground. It was slick, covered in a thick slime. "Gross…"
"Something is in here with us, Hunter." Miria whispered, reaching for her saber. She could feel it; the pulse of primal intelligence and hunger. "It's sentient. And angry. It wants…" She ignited her blade and held it up, eyes widening when she came face to face with a creature.
It had an oblong head, no eyes she could see, and a long scaled tail. It growled at the light bathing in before taking a threatening step towards Miria.
"What the hell is that?" Hunter gasped before it let out a roar and jumped.
Miria was frozen in horror, only saved by the clones opening fire and forcing the monstrosity up the wall and into the ceiling. She'd only felt this one before, in the second year of the war, when a well-intentioned mistake by Anakin and Mace Windu had unleashed a gargantuan creature hell-bent on killing Palpatine upon Coruscant. It can't be! It was the last of its kind!
The power came on around them, and the creature jumped over them and down the hall. Miria tried to strike, but her saber glanced off the scales harmlessly. "We have to get off this ship, and we can't let that thing escape." She looked at Hunter, and the wild fear in her voice was enough to turn his stomach to knots.
"Tech, we've got to go." He ordered.
"It would seem this was a research vessel. Imagine what we could learn-"
Miria hit her comm. "I know precisely what this is, and it's still on board! Now, Tech!"
"You sound upset, General."
"A juvenile Zillo Beast is heading right for you! Yes I'm upset!"
"Shit." Hunter took off after the creature, rounding the corner to find it munching on electricity from the power generator. It was bigger, spinier now.
Wrecker stopped short behind him. "Does that thing look different to you?"
"It's eating the power supply." Miria whispered. "It's getting bigger…"
Tech ran up from the other direction, eyes widening at the sight of the creature. "Fascinating…"
"Tech!" Omega squawked.
"Take cover!" He got a handle on his nerdiness and pulled a grenade. Hunter grabbed Omega and Wrecker scooped Miria to his chest, ducking behind a wall as it blew.
Instead of killing the Zillo, they inadvertently gave it an escape route and it ran out of the hole, heading straight for the village.
Miria started swearing softly. "We have to contain it!"
"It likely ate the previous crew, so we are fortunate it is probably not hungry." Tech shrugged.
"It ate the crew?!" Omega yelped.
Hunter cut Tech off when his know-it-all index finger popped up. "We have to stop it."
"I will double back into the ship for further information." Tech nodded.
Omega followed him. "I know about Kaminoan cloning technology."
Miria nodded. "Hurry." She, Hunter, and Wrecker took off after the monster.
"You know what it is, Miri. How do we kill it?"
"The only way I know is Malastarian fuel." Miria panted, running at full speed. "Which we don't have."
The village was in danger. Those innocent families she'd been so envious of, their lives of domesticity and peace, were all in danger.
"Our blasters don't touch it. Even your saber didn't hurt it." Wrecker wheezed as they scrambled onto the Havoc Marauder.
"Get on the tailgun, I'll take the gunner's nest. Hunter, fly like you mean it." She ordered, climbing into Omega's room.
They couldn't kill it like this. Lasers wouldn't touch this creature. She needed a plan.
The knock on her door was so quiet she almost missed it. It had been a hard day, half the city sector destroyed by a rampaging monster, and her shore leave was interrupted by tending to the creche all day. Those poor frightened little ones had cried for hours, and her team was blowing up her comm to make sure she was okay. They'd only been on Coruscant so she could see Master Che… Crosshair was probably going to climb through her window before nightfall, if she didn't go back to the ship-
"Come in?"
The man in her door looked like he was going to crumble. "Miri…" There was dirt on his face, he smelled faintly of fuel, and the regret in his blue eyes could have swallowed the Force itself.
"Anakin?"
He crashed into her arms, bent over her smaller frame, and started to cry on her shoulder immediately. "I made a mistake, Miri. I should never have let him bring it here… he said he wouldn't hurt it, and it'd help the clones."
"Oh, Ani…" She hugged her boy tightly, because Anakin Skywalker had always been her boy. One of her many children, the ones she'd raised and loved and seen grow with her precious little time. "Shhh. Tell me what's happened."
"The dugs were going to kill it, so Windu and I captured it instead. But the Chancellor made us bring it here, and Padme was mad at me, and it got out, and now it's dead!"
Miria hugged her friend a little closer, heart shattering at the broken sound of his voice. "It wasn't your fault. You did all you could, dear. It was an unfair situation you were put into." She didn't know what to say to ease his pain, but she knew one thing abundantly clear.
Sheev Palpatine was a cruel, terrible man.
Tech on the comm tore Miria from her thoughts. "This is indeed the same species that attacked Coruscant during the war. It feeds on energy, you must not let it get to the village's power grid or it will grow exponentially in size."
"Too late." Hunter groaned.
Miria looked out the window at a familiar sight, a three armed reptile roaring its fury at the galaxy as it clung to the biggest building it saw.
"We have a larger problem. Imperials!" She jerked her head as three LAAT gunships whizzed by. "Pull out of the wreckage, Tech. We'll come get you."
"The data transfer is not complete."
Miria gritted her teeth. "The Empire is coming to capture the Zillo!"
"Let's not be next." Hunter jerked the controls, ducking them out of firing range and heading back towards the crash site.
Miria dropped out of the gunner's nest and to the hatch, opening it and grabbing Tech and Omega as they slowed enough for the two to board. "Go! They're coming back for us."
Hunter yanked them into the atmosphere and slammed the hyperdrive faster than was probably safe.
When the adrenaline wore off in the silence of space, she stood up. Omega crawled into her own bunk and hugged Lula as the former Jedi began to pace. "A Zillo. It's supposed to be extinct…" She all but growled. "What did those bastards do?!"
Tech sighed. "It seems that it was cloned, General."
Her teeth ground audibly. "Palpatine."
Of course, it all came back to that monster. The Sith the council suspected in the Senate, the inhibitor chips, Anakin's downfall, it all led to one person. Palpatine.
She wanted to bury him alive with a straw in his mouth for air, just so she could put her thumb over it.
"The order was given when he was still Chancellor. Before the Empire."
"Why would he even want a Zillo Beast?" Wrecker grumbled.
"The same reason he wanted the first one. To weaponize it." Miria sank into her deck chair, fists clenched. "He tortured that creature. No wonder it broke out and went after him… Anakin should have let the bloody thing eat him."
"Where were they taking it?" Hunter frowned.
"The ship did not have a destination in its system. It was heavily encrypted data, even on the ship's internal system." Tech explained. "I… do not believe the Empire destroyed the cities on Kamino to end cloning, but to control it."
Miria stiffened and looked at Hunter. There was a silent conversation held between their eyes, the general looking more demanding that usual and her sergeant more resigned. "Send the data to Rex and Echo. See what they make of it." He said quietly.
From her spot, Omega gave a small and anxious smile. Miria stood and went to the bunkroom, sitting on the bed with her fists on her knees.
Open your eyes, Crosshair. Look at what is happening. I know you hear me. How long are you going to make me wait?!

Breath of the Wild snippet
Link is bored. It's a little startling how easy it's to see – how easy he's to read these days. Where before, hundred years ago, he'd been as unreadable as a brick wall, a look of serious determination as though permanently etched to his face, now he's an open book, covers flung wide. The serious frown still makes an appearance, of course, it's his default expression, Link's face simply rests in a way that makes him seem as though he's almost scowling, but now, should an emotion cross his mind… he does nothing to hide it.
Like now, as his attention strays and his eyes wander and every so often he smothers a sigh or a yawn or a longing look directed at the door. It's in part painfully and in part endearingly clear how little attention he's paying to their meeting, and how much he wishes he could be elsewhere.
Zelda smothers a smile and then realises she's allowed herself to be distracted, and quickly turns her attention back to the meeting taking place in Impa's house.
"... a little difficult to test," Purah is saying. She's sitting cross legged in the middle of the floor, her seat cushion abandoned and papers flung about her – most of them about her anti-aging rune. "I can't even promise the test subject will survive the process, never mind that it will work even fifty percent of the time... so finding people to volunteer has been an issue."
"What, no old folks interested in regaining their misspent youth?" Robbie asks with a slight snort, adjusting his goggles. "I'd happily test it, if my work wasn't too important to risk!"
Purah gives him a look. "Well, duh. Most folk are the same," she says and shakes her head. "And besides, the population and age statistics don't exactly trend towards the elderly these days. The average life expectancy of both Hylians and Sheikah both trend about forty years younger than it used to be pre-Calamity. And the only way for people to reliably grow old these days –"
"Is to have a family or other support network, helping them," Impa muses, rubbing at her chin. "Which means they have things too dear to lose, for an uncertain chance."
"Just so," Purah says and folds her little arms, adorable in her seriousness. "I did post queries around Hateno village, of course, but I only had a couple of takers, and they all turned tail when I explained the risks. And we can't improve the chances without further testing. And we can't do further testing without candidates. And we're not likely to get more candidates with the chances being what they are - it's a vicious circle."
By the door, Link looks ready to nod off.
Zelda hums, looking at the papers Purah had brought, conflicted. It's incredible work, just as a concept, and Purah hadn't just left it at theory – and the results certainly speak for themselves! Purah is now, what, hundred and twenty, hundred and thirty years old? And she looks as though she is a girl of six, with all that time ahead of her and not behind. If the technology could be made reliable, it would no doubt change the future in ways Zelda can scarcely imagine… for the better, she hopes, for all the people of Hyrule.
But right now, she has more selfish reasons to make enquiries into the rune.
Zelda looks at Impa, sitting on top of a pile of pillows, her weathered, aged face thoughtful. Their eyes meet and Zelda steels her resolve. "Might there be any potential candidates in Kakariko village, Impa?" she asks.
"Hmm. I doubt it. Young Zain, maybe?" Impa muses. "Well, he's not so young. He's in his seventies, he has bad knees and no surviving relatives to support or be supported by. Bit of a sour grape, that one, though. Sceptic. Hard to convince."
"I'm sure if the Lost Princess and the Hero who stopped Ganon ask for it, anyone would be happy to give it a go!" Robbie says, slapping his folded knees. "Especially if they learn what it's all for!"
Zelda smiles, wincing, and looks down. Using her standing for such a thing… sure she'd done things of that nature before, pleading people to join their cause, ages ago… but never with the risks so high, and potential results so uncertain. She'd never liked asking people to risk their lives, for her or otherwise. Even with a cause so important...
"It would be a somewhat awkward thing to ask, though," she muses and looks down. "It is an awkward thing to ask. I'm… I'm sorry to have to ask it of you."
After all this time, all these years, all the service they'd already put in, to ask for so much more of them… but she had to. No one woman could rebuild a kingdom by herself. She needed help, she needed allies – she needed Impa and Robbie and Purah. With such a foundation, Hyrule might yet rise, better than ever, but for that to ever happen… Impa and Robbie needed to go through what Purah already had, and extend their already prodigiously long lives even further. They all deserved their quiet retirement, after all the effort they'd put in, but for Hyrule, Zelda would make this cruel request.
"Ha!" Robbie says, striking a pose. "Like I wouldn't do this without being asked! As soon as Purah can improve the odds – no, as soon as we can improve the odds –"
"What's that, you old coot, what do you mean by we?" Purah depends, bouncing to her feet. "If you think I will let you ever into my lab, mister, you're sorely mistaken –!"
"If we work together, combine the efforts of Akkala and Hateno tech labs, we're sure to succeed! With Cherry's incredible computing power and your Stone –"
"Your creepy ancient furnace is getting nowhere near my Guidance Stone!"
Link startles awake at the noise they're making and Zelda smothers a giggle while Impa sighs.
"I will ask Paya to check in on Zain, maybe he will be interested," Impa says and shakes her head. "But it's still a small test study, with only two subjects. I'm sorry, Zelda – as much as I wish to do this, I am with Robbie on this. The chances are too low and I have too much to lose, right now. Paya is nowhere near ready to take over for me here. There needs to be more candidate's, first, and I don't know where we can get them. But," she hums and looks away. "There might be someone who does."
Link yawns and then freezes, finding all of them staring at him. Then, clearly baffled, he points at himself quizzically, and Zelda offers him a smile.
Impa chuckles. "You've been all over Hyrule now, Link – you've traveled farther than probably anyone has in a hundred years. Better than anyone, you know the state of her people. Do you think there is anyone out there who might be interested in Purah's study – in regaining their youth, even at a risk?"
Link scratches the back of his neck thoughtfully and then takes out the Sheikah Slate, opening the map with an easy, well practiced wipe of his fingers over the screen. Zelda leans in, once more amazed – and a little jealous – of how far he'd gotten with it, how full of markers the map is. Hundred years ago, she'd estimated that there might be as many as a dozen sites of ancient Sheikah technology all over Hyrule. Link had discovered over a hundred. They now glow on his map, like glittering blue gems, the Towers and Shrines he'd seen and mastered.
Link zooms in on the map and then puts down three other markers. One in Zora's domain, one in Gerudo Town and last in Lurelin Village. Turning the slate around, he shows the map to everyone.
"Of course," Zelda breathes in realisation. "The Guardians never reached so far, so their populations were never so scattered or scarred. In Zora's domain, in Gerudo Town and in Lurelin, people can grow old peacefully, without fear of attack."
Link makes a face and a wobbling gesture with his hand and then shrugs. Zelda smiles, sadly. "Aside from monsters and other disasters and misfortunes, of course," she agrees. "But without fear of attacks by Guardians, they were allowed to prosper."
"Not the Rito, though?" Robbie asks, his goggles whirting and shifting like the eyes of a gecko as he looks between the map, Link and Zelda. "Or the Gorons?"
Link shrugs, rubbing at his neck.
"Gorons age like rocks, Daruk always said," Zelda muses. "And I suppose with Rito it can be difficult to tell their ages. If we send out invitations to the study, we should include them as well – assuming that the treatment by the rune isn't Sheikah exclusive…?"
Purah rocks back and forth on her feet thoughtfully, almost as though she's about to dance. "I… don't know? I calibrated the first version based on my own physiology, so it might be best to stick to Sheikah and Hylians for a start – but I can't see why it couldn't be adjusted. Gerudo are closer in structure to us than Rito and Gorons, or Zora for that matter. Might be best we start there, when we begin making modifications to include everyone."
"So, begin with Lurelin," Robbie says and nods. "How do we do that?"
"We'll make some posters and Link can zip in and out of Lurelin Village to post them," Purah says and strikes a pose. "It's just a snap for the Sheikah Slate."
Impa hums in agreement. "Best we make advertisements for Kakariko and Hateno as well, and perhaps some of the stables," she muses. "You never know who might take us up on it, and getting this technology to work at hundred percent will be a benefit to everyone."
"You're right," Zelda agrees, nodding. "Purah and Robbie, I suppose you two know best what should go on the poster. Can you make it?"
"It'll work much better, with your name under it," Robbie points out.
"We'll write a draft and you can copy it and put your royal touch and seal to it," Purah says and does an excited little dance. "This is so exciting! We'll get so many applicants and my little Guidance Stone will get to do it's thing!"
Zelda offers her a smile, all the while wondering, not for the first time… how much of a royal she even is, at this point. With the castle in ruins and the Kingdom in shambles, with no one to rule it for a hundred years… all that Zelda is now... is a story. The Princess that went to fight Calamity Ganon as the Kingdom fell asunder all around her. Not many even believe it. That might change with this meeting and the following cooperation, especially when they'd begin reaching out further, but right now…
Princess of nothing indeed.
"So much was lost," Zelda murmurs, carefully resting her hands in her lap to keep herself from wringing them. She shouldn't concentrate on the losses. Not when there's so much to do. "It will be good to build something for a change. To improve things."
"Indeed," Impa says, nodding her head, her heavy hat tilting. "But if Calamity Ganon taught us anything, it is that we should take all due caution."
"Yes. And speaking of which," Zelda says and lifts her eyes to Robbie. "Your research in Akkala – I would very much like to hear more about it. Link showed me the armour and weaponry you made, they're very impressive – how did you manage it?"
Robbie all but launches himself into the story of Akkala Ancient Tech Lab, the research he'd done there, the progress he'd made, enthusiastically recounting the creation of his Ancient Furnace, Cherry. Zelda leans in, allowing herself to be drawn in, and by the door Link settles down with a sigh and begins nodding off again.

Hmm hmm. Took me 3 years, but I finally finished botw.
I might continue this one and it might end up a Stargate crossover. Who knows.

Black Fox - An Undercooked Burrito
The other day I went to chipotle,
I was excited because I hadn’t been in a while and I was really in the mood for a burrito. I waited in line and when I got to the front and saw all the ingredients it all looked so good, it made me a little more excited for what I was about to sit down and enjoy, but once I got my food and actually sat down to enjoy it I learned that looks could be deceiving, all of my excitement and joy dwindled down about fifty percent once I realized that the rice was undercooked. However, even though the rice was ruined the beans, chicken, salsa, and sour cream all still tasted wonderful and made up for an otherwise disappointing trip out for lunch. But... What if the Beans were undercooked too? What if everything else would have been as upsetting as the rice? Well, I would have hated my experience asked for a manager and complain about it.
Black Fox was a very similar experience for me, I Haven’t kept up with current anime in what feels like years and heck I’ve barely gone back to watch anything old in quite some time as well. But much like that burrito, the other night I began to crave the anime I used to consume daily. I created a new CrunchyRoll account and signed up for premium, the poster for Black Fox caught my eye and I actually thought the color, character designs, and art style looked really cool together. I knew nothing about it and at first thought, it was a series only learning it was a movie after seeing the length of the video and a quick google search. but if it wasn’t for that search I would’ve been incredibly confused. from the pacing of the story to the lackluster visuals I could have sworn I was watching a series, but the more I watched the more it felt like a series that was poorly edited down to a movie. I Won’t take the time to explain the plot, mainly because everything happened so fast without almost any explanation and the little bit of the story I could understand, and that’s not saying there was much to understand was so incredibly underdeveloped it would be hard to quickly describe so I’ll just leave a link here to the Wikipedia page you can read.
But the other reason is that this isn’t a review and it’s not meant to convince you if you should watch it or not, no I'm only writing this all out because after I was done watching I felt so strongly mixed that I had to do something I so rarely dare to do, read the comments.
I was amazed that for the most part, it received generally favorable comments. I was so shocked by this that I went to google only to find that at the time of typing this out it holds a 7.02/10 Star rating on MAL with a total of 11,305 ratings and a 6.3/10 out of 114 reviews on IMDB with 95% of google users saying they liked the movie.
Now I should take the time to make it clear before going forward that I didn’t hate Black Fox the same way I Didn’t hate that chipotle burrito. It wasn’t bad it just felt undercooked and like it was missing something. For example, I’ll start by saying the first problem is that this Anime feels like it’s having an identity crisis as to whether it’s a movie or a series, SAG Defines a feature-length film at minimum to be 80 minutes long, with Black Fox clocking in at a 90 minute run time it definitely meets that requirement but somehow manages to feel too short while dragging on because we as the audience are never properly introduced to any of the main characters apart from Rikka.
We are never shown the relationship between Allen and his former friends that led to Lauren’s jealously, Never shown exactly what Allen did before or why he created the drones beyond wanting to make friends for people? that’s what I got at least from the film's explanation. it’s never properly explained what Gradsheim does, and what makes that even more confusing is Allen at the beginning of the film telling Brad “you want to use them for war?” which he laughs at, then at the end of the film a reporter saying to brad that the company helped develop the city? their facility is heavily guarded and protected but we don’t know why or what they plan to use the drone research for? Lauren is never shown to be mentally stable at all so him becoming or already being crazy felt so empty since the only time we see Allen, Brad and Lauren together is in a picture where they both ALREADY look extremely evil??? In the same way, the relationship between Lauren and Mia is touched on so little, just like how beyond playing chess in one scene Mia and Rikka are never seen bonding or getting to know each other. Almost as soon as Rikka takes her in after they both refuse to kill each other they argue, Mia calls her father and stupidly believes he’ll turn himself in for killing Allen and Rikka’s Grandfather then in the next scene are attacked. and somehow within these three scenes, they share some kind of close bond? or at least that’s what it feels like they want us to believe from the final battle. now throw in that so little about their world or any of its characters are ever explained it makes it hard to care about anything happening in the film. And I refuse to even talk about Melissa because so little is ever explained or shown about her beyond finding out that she’s also a drone? which felt like a legitimate surprise but was never brought up ever again until the very end of the film.
I Even like some of the elements introduced in the story but since every element is just mentioned and never built upon it all feels useless, And that’s why it feels like a series more than a movie. Everything happens so fast and we move on before ever learning what just happened then we're introduced to something new in the next scene! If this was a series that had more time to slow down and have the audience understand what's happening I would have really enjoyed Black Fox. And That’s the major undercooked rice, everything else I was hoping to enjoy would have come from the visuals but sadly nothing about Black Fox truly stands out apart from a few frames I noticed mix into mostly boring and generic backgrounds and the end of the film, the aesthetic in the poster is only ever really present in the last two minutes of the film as well. However credit where credit is due I did really like the use of CG and I enjoyed Rikka, Mia and Melissa's character designs. It’s a shame though that we only really see their best designs as the movie closes. The animation also never really stood out apart from the action scenes but even then they’re nothing to write home about.
The movie ends on a cliffhanger but with no promise of a sequel or series in the future, I really can’t recommend Black Fox because while it left a lot to be desired with cool concepts, without any explanation those cool concepts become generic. Lauren could have been a fun villain if we would have learned anything about him, The final battle could have meant so much if any of these characters or we as the audience got to learn about them. Mia’s power is never explained and neither is Laurens, Allen dies before we ever get to care about him, The detective agency is only shown in one scene so Rikka’s boss giving her the building just feels like a way to give them a home at the last minute after we remember their home was destroyed. I Would love a fleshed out Black Fox, but the Black Fox we have isn’t laughably bad because there are shreds of good that aren’t explored but it isn’t good enough to where I can tell anyone to watch it as it is.
I Believe Jesus Christ said it best when talking about the church of Laodicea
“I know your deeds, that you are neither cold nor hot. I wish you were either one or the other! So, because you are lukewarm--neither hot nor cold--I am about to spit you out of my mouth.” - Revelation 3:15-16

Hi there ! Are you still doing the ficlets ? If so, can I ask for a very common 4L, Soulmates Coffee Shop AU ? I'm old fashion that way. ;)
Ahhh, rapha-senna, thank you for being so patient and for sending in a bunch of prompts I’m so flattered (ノ◕ヮ◕)ノ*:・゚✧
I’ve written so many soulmate aus that I had to think for a while which type to write. Hope you like this one with mood-soulmate-marks! Also this might end up being a bit more emotional than planned ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ (warning for themes of mental health)
***
Most people have life-crises when they hit a milestone birthday. Thity. Forty. Fifty. Etc. Arthur Pendragon had not been one of those people. He had been at the young age of twenty-eight years old when he hit his life crisis.
For six years Arthur had been the director of the financial department of Pendragon Corps, which was not only his father’s company but one of the largest companies in the UK. He had been positioned there since he graduated university, which spoke to his father’s nepotism but also to the intense pressure that his father always placed on Arthur. It felt like those six years had drained decades from his life.
It was summer, Arthur had just turned twenty-eight, when he realized that he had hit the wall. He realized he had spent too many weeks where he slept only twelve hours over seven days, and most of them on his office couch. He realized he had struggled through too many panic attacks, tucked away in his corner office’s bathroom, heaving over the toilet. He realized he had been neglecting his social life so much that he couldn’t even think of a single person to call on his birthday.
He had had enough.
He must have looked a mess when he slammed open his father’s office door and told him he was quitting. Arthur was sure the yelling match between the two Pendragons was still talked about in Pendragon Corps offices today.
It had taken a year to get back on his feet, mentally and physically. But after that year, he hit his stride. He had his degree in finance, so he figured owning a small business would be a good place to start but it ended up being the best decision of Arthur’s life. Opening up Igraine’s Cafe had been the only thing in Arthur’s twenty-nine years of life that had been one hundred percent his own decision, and one that made him feel prouder than anything he had done at his father’s company.
During those years, he had always wondered what were the colors on his soulmate’s arm. Arthur’s mood had been so erratic, especially during the end, he always pictured the colors on his soulmate’s mark to change rapidly from the dark grays of melancholy, the sickly yellows of anxiety, and the bright reds of rage. Sometimes it had been the mark on his own arm, the blurry swirl of colors that represented his soulmate’s emotions, that pushed him through one day at a time. His soulmate’s mood would be a serene blue-green that reminded Arthur of clear-blue tropical ocean, and it would calm him in the midst of a panic. Or sometimes it would be pink with excitement, and in a moment of gloom, Arthur would rejoiced for whatever his soulmate may be doing.
Now, as he worked at Igraine’s Cafe, he hoped the mark on his soulmate’s arm was a good color. Perhaps a warm green of contentment or a happy cerulean.
Or perhaps small wisps of purple, although he hoped his soulmate wasn’t the jealous type.
One of Arthur’s most frequent customers since he opened Igraine’s Cafe had been a man, perhaps only a few years younger than Arthur, named Merlin Emerson. He worked as a nurse at the hospital down the road and he always arrived at Arthur cafe at an ungodly hour, half-awake and begging for caffeine. Arthur always sold him a large cup of coffee and usually convinced Merlin to order some food as well, because despite being a nurse, Merlin wasn’t always the healthiest when it came to his diet. Arthur loved seeing Merlin in the mornings, dressed in his usual scrubs (normally blue or red, but Arthur liked when he wore his purple scrubs). Merlin would smile at him, ask about his day or how the cafe was coming along, and tell Arthur stories of his job or something crazy that a friend named Will had done last weekend.
So Arthur was falling for Merlin and he knew that his soulmate, wherever they were, must be seeing flashes of purple in their mark.
Arthur was in the cramped back office of Igraine’s Cafe (it used to be a broom closet, and it was better than anything he used to have at Pendragon Corps), when he noticed that his mark was a dark grey and sludgy brown. Touching the mark, Arthur wondered what could be upsetting his soulmate, and wishing he could do something about it.
A moment later one of the waiters, Gwen, knocked on his door and peeked her head inside.
“Arthur? Hey, that Merlin bloke is here.” She said, “Doesn’t he only come in the mornings?”
“Huh.” Arthur said, forgetting his mark for a moment. He left his desk behind to look out at his cafe. Indeed, Merlin was there in the late afternoon, eating a panini and sipping a tea. He was looking out the window, watching the people walk by, head resting in his hand.
Arthur approached the table, “May I?” he gestured to the chair.
“Arthur!” Merlin looked up with surprise, “I did think you were here. You weren’t running the coffee.”
“I was looking through some papers in the back.” Arthur said as he took the seat across from Merlin. “What brings you here at such a late hour?” Arthur jested.
Merlin’s lips turned down in a frown and he looked down at his tea. “Not sure. Actually, I’ve had a lousy day, you know? Just absolute shit. I was hoping some food and tea would make me feel better.”
“Oh.” Arthur was surprised by his honesty. “Well, food might help. But I know how that feels, some days are just shit.”
Merlin looked up, head cocked to the side. “I’ve been in this shop for months, and you always seem so happy.”
Arthur shrugged, “Well I suppose I haven’t had a bad day- as in a horribly shitty day- since I opened the cafe. But it wasn’t always that way. I used to work at Pendragon Corps, and there, almost everyday was a bad day.”
“Wait- really? You were one of those corporate types?” Merlin asked. “But you wear sweaters and give me muffins on a daily basis. You’ll have to convince me of that one, Arthur.”
Arthur laughed, “Well considering I am Arthur Pendragon, I don’t think it would be too hard to believe.”
Merlin seemed surprised by this, and began to ask more questions. Arthur was also surprised that he answered them willingly. He told Merlin about how horrible working at Pendragon Corps had been for him, and how he hoped that Igraine’s Cafe would be what he did for the rest of his life. Merlin told Arthur about his bad day, and by the end of the conversation Merlin seemed much happier and left with a smile on his face.
As Merlin left, Arthur was so focused on him that he didn’t notice his soulmate’s mark was bright orange with swirling pinks.
The more Arthur got to know Merlin, exchanged stories and learned about each other, the more Arthur wondered about his soulmate. Perhaps he even hoped to glimpse Merlin’s mark and see his own moods reflected there. Merlin usually wore a jacket over his scrubs, so it was rare to see the colors on his arm, but every once and awhile he spied a flash of color.
One Sunday afternoon, Arthur was the last one in the cafe before closing. He was sweeping the floor when he heard a knock on the window, and turned to see Merlin. He wasn’t dressed in scrubs. Oh no, he was dressed in black trousers and a button up shirt rolled to his elbows, with a scarf wound loosely around his neck. His hair was combed unlike it was most mornings, and his cheeks were flushed with the autumn air. He was stunning and Arthur had not been prepared to see him.
“Merlin?” Arthur opened the cafe doors to let him in. “We’re closed.”
“Oh I know.” Merlin said, “But I was wondering if you were free. I would have called, but for some reason I never got your number and was too impatient to wait for tomorrow to ask for it.”
Arthur felt a burst of a laugh rise out of his throat. Merlin was asking him out, and Arthur felt uncontrollably giddy.
“Yeah.” Arthur grinned, “Yeah, I’m free. You want to go down to the Rising Sun?”
“Yeah.” Merlin brushed his hand over his hair, almost nervously, as he said, “I can wait- Or you want to-?”
“No, now is fine.” Arthur said, but his eyes were on Merlin’s arm. The mark was bright pink with excitement and deep purple with love and lust. That couldn’t have been a coincidence.
Merlin followed Arthur’s eyes to the mark on his arm. He smiled and looked down to Arthur’s own mark. Arthur looked down to see a similar shade of pink, purple, with a bit of blue.
“Figured it out then?” Merlin smiled, his eyes crinkling with mirth.
“You knew?” Arthur asked, reaching out and grabbing Merlin’s arm running a hand over the mark as it changed, adding in a hot pink of Arthur’s nervous-excitement.
“Yeah. I figured it out when you told me you worked for Pendragon Corps. Or rather, that’s what got me thinking. You always seemed so happy and my soulmate used to have such extreme emotions that I didn’t think it was you. But later you told me about those panic attacks and it all made sense.” Merlin stepped closer and took Arthur’s arm in his hands, running his hands over the colors on Arthur’s arm. “I used to get these weird mixed colors on my arm. Normal colors like red, blue, and yellow, but they were all mixed together and frantic. I knew there was something wrong, but I didn’t know what. That was really maddening, you know? But that stopped over a year ago. I put two and two together, and well…”
Arthur didn’t hesitate. He wrapped his arms around Merlin and pressed his face to Merlin’s hair. “God, Merlin, sometimes all I had was your colors on my arm.”
Merlin squeezed tight, “Well, now you have me.”
Arthur leaned away just enough to pull Merlin into a kiss. When they parted, both their marks were a deep purple.
