'Shorter options never get content because nobody plays them.' While admittedly part of that is because a lot of people dislike being short (and I certainly note in myself the strong urge to kneecap 99% of the characters in any given game while playing dwarves or smaller), it's also because of the vicious cycle where nobody plays them because they barely ever get any fucking content. The plot might involve elves, but it never has some world ending event hinged on halflings, or where your being Hin adds to the story, does it. Like in the original Baldur's Gate games, where all the characters - including the other halflings - treat my girl as a human, because clearly nobody was going to pick anything but human or elf and the urge to turn into the Slayer rises.
I do remember a unique dialogue option between halfling Tav/Durge and Lae'zel about how she'll never make friends if she keeps beating people up that amused me though. Which is even funnier if it's Durge.
