Finally!

Good news. We found a table and chairs, so that need has been met.

Unfortunately, we still do not have a bed for my daughter @helly-watermelonsmellinfellon and we still do not have propane for our heat. The temps at night have been dipping down to below freezing to upper 30's. We need propane asap before the temps go so low that the pipes freeze.

Any help we get will be beyond appreciated and will help save our pipes not to mention my youngest daughter who is always cold.

Measures to be taken when a pipe bursts

Stop the water

First, stop the flow of water if you suspect a pipe has burst, even if you don't know where the water is coming from. You can find the stopcock on the water main.

Once the main water switch is off, you need to drain the pipes. To do this, drain the cold water from all the faucets. Turn off the water heater.

Locate the broken pipe and investigate the damage

Examine the damage and consider where the pipe is located before running to the hardware store.

If it's a small break, you may be able to patch it and prevent further damage while saving money. However, if you use a commercial tape or chemical binder, keep an eye on this repair job because it could burst later and you'll be right back where you started.

Repairing the burst pipe

You'll need an extra-long length of ordinary garden hose and two or three hose clamps or similar grips that create an extreme constriction. Measure the crack or burst and cut the garden hose about 20 cm longer than needed to fill the broken area.

Next, cut the garden hose so that you can push or burst it over the crack or split in the water line. Using the hose clamps or similar clamps, hold the section of hose over the broken area and squeeze it as tightly as you can. Test your repair by turning on the water.

Be sure to cut it about 2 cm larger on both sides of the break. If you replace the missing piece of pipe, use spacers and sealant, but don't overtighten. If a union nut is too tight, it will cause an ovalizing effect that will lead to further leaks.

We’re expected to have a freeze and harsh weather this week and/or next week (check your local forecast for specifics). Make sure you have some extra water storage, non perishable foods, blankets, and maybe some hand warmers in case our local or state power supply gets fucking destroyed again.

Make sure to at least set your heat to 55°F, keep cabinets with pipes in them open to allow heat in, and drip your faucets to help prevent pipes bursting.

It’s not anything to be scared about, and not likely to be as bad as 2021, but always better to prepared.
