JONATHAN GROFF SETS 2025 BROADWAY RETURN WITH ‘JUST IN TIME’
by Philip Boroff
EXCLUSIVE: Newly minted Tony Award winner Jonathan Groff will play the 1950s and ’60s crooner Bobby Darin in a staged reading next month, ahead of a planned Broadway opening in spring 2025, people familiar with the musical said.
The reading of Just in Time will be directed by Alex Timbers (Moulin Rouge!). On Broadway, Tom Kirdahy and Robert Ahrens are set to produce the show, which tells the story of the short but eventful life of the popular performer, whose hits included “Mack the Knife,” “Dream Lover” and “Just in Time.”
Born Walden Robert Cassotto in East Harlem, Darin had rheumatic fever as a child that damaged his heart. He lived, he acknowledged, as if on borrowed time before his death at 37.
He led a new generation of swinging singers into the rock revolution of the 1960s. He also acted in movies, composed music, married the actress Sandra Dee and as an adult discovered that the woman he thought was his older sister was his mother.
“I went on YouTube,” Groff told reporter Elysa Gardner before a rehearsal of an early version of the show, presented as part of the 92nd Street Y ‘s “Lyrics and Lyricist” series in 2018. “I watched all these TV performances, from the beginning to the end of his career, and I was blown away by his versatility. The rock & roll and the standards, the dancing, the folk songs. The duets with George Burns and Judy Garland. His life was insane.”
Darin spawned many imitators, including Kevin Spacey, who played him in the biofilm Beyond the Sea. The ballad “Just in Time” was composed by Jule Styne with lyrics by Adolph Green and Betty Comden for the musical Bells are Ringing. It became a hit for Dean Martin, among others, who was in the 1960 movie adaptation directed by Vincente Minnelli.
Besides Groff, casting wasn’t available. The reading isn’t affected by the monthlong Actors’ Equity strike intended to pressure the Broadway League to improve its Development Agreement with the union. Actors will be working under a contract negotiated with the League of Resident Theatres (LORT), an association of nonprofit theater companies.
Although the reading will be in New York, it’s under the aegis of Signature Theatre in Arlington, Virginia, which is a LORT member.
In a charmed career, the 39-year-old Groff has performed in the Frozen films, the TV series Glee and three acclaimed Broadway blockbusters — Spring Awakening, Hamilton and most recently Merrily We Roll Along — each of which earned him a Tony nomination. (He won for Merrily.)
Groff was also the first Seymour in the hit off-Broadway revival of Little Shop of Horrors, produced by Ahrens, Kirdahy and Hunter Arnold. Andrew Barth Feldman is currently playing the role.
In his moving acceptance speech at the Tony awards in June, Groff spoke about his love of the Broadway community and how “musical theater is still saving my soul.” Just in Time will aim for multigenerational appeal, as the young Broadway star sings 65-year-old standards.
Since the pandemic, older audiences have been slow to return to Broadway. If Just in Time is well received, Groff may be just the man to help bring them back.

The numbers grow ever larger for Taylor Swift’s The Tortured Poets Department, according to initial reports to data tracking firm Luminate. (Luminate’s sales, streaming and airplay data powers Billboard’s charts. All numbers in this story reflect U.S. consumption only.)
In the album’s first four days of release (April 19-22), the set’s collected 31 songs (on its deluxe edition) generated 602.3 million on-demand official streams in the U.S. – breaking Swift’s own record for the largest streaming week for an album by a woman. She previously held the record with the opening frame of her last studio album, Midnights, which collected 549.3 million on-demand official streams for its 20 tracks (in the week ending Oct. 27, 2022).
The Tortured Poets Department also claims the third-largest streaming week overall, surpassing Midnights, and only trailing the opening frames of Drake’s Scorpion (745.92 million for its 25 songs in 2018) and Certified Lover Boy (743.67 million for its 21 songs in 2021).
Equivalent Album Units & Sales So Far: In the album’s first four days of release, The Tortured Poets Department has earned 2.1 million equivalent album units, with traditional album sales (purchases of digital downloads, CDs, vinyl LPs and cassettes) accounting for 1.6 million of that sum.

This is an opinion piece. Many will not agree with me, so I have laid out some facts. Scooter’s wife divorces him and his biggest clients leave him by the end of 2022. As if the pandemic wasn’t hard enough, hey Scooter? Karma?
2017
-On May 21, 2017, BTS won the Billboard award for Top Social Artist, beating out Justin Bieber, Selena Gomez, Ariana Grande, and Shawn Mendes. Beiber and Grande at that time were both signed to Scooter Braun’s agency. Everyone took notice.
Except Justin that is, lol.
2018
-Here he is in August 26, 2018 answering fans questions about Jungkook and BTS. He had listened to one song - FIRE.

2020
-Jan 14, 2020 Justin announces he has been diagnosed with Lyme Disease

-July 23, 2020 Justin announces tour dates - previously delayed because of Covid pandemic

2021
-April 13, 2021 The Redemption of Justin Bieber. Justin has struggled. With addiction, depression, anxiety and the law. He has been isolated from his peers and elevated to celebrity superstar status before reaching adulthood. In the western world that’s a recipe for disaster. Whether you like his music or not, there’s no denying Justin Bieber has talent. The numbers speak for themselves.
https://www.gq.com/story/justin-bieber-cover-profile-may-2021

https://toronto.citynews.ca/2021/05/06/justin-bieber-postpones-canadian-summer-tour-dates-until-2022/
-April 2, 2021 Scooter sells Ithaca Holdings to Hybe.
https://www.reuters.com/article/hybe-ma-ithaca-idUSL4N2LV13C
(Interesting that 11 days later that month the redemption of Justin Bieber article in GQ is published)
-And a month later, June 25, 2021, Scooter flies to South Korea to meet his new company, the vast potential of new, polite, trainees, various established groups under the Hybe umbrella and world superstars, the BTS members. I have to sigh here, the author of this article can’t even be bothered to include each member’s name. Just a general Scooter says “they’re great”. Because he couldn’t care less? He had his wonder boy Justin, and potentially a whole new generation of talented people to work with should the need arise in the future. I believe the members of BTS individually or as a group weren’t his priority at the time. I remember that period when fans were asking if a collaboration with Justin Bieber would be possible in the future. BTS handled these questions very delicately.

And during the epidemic, all is quiet except for the BTS members who work continuously through this period, appearing virtually on several shows aimed at the western audience.

-August 23, 2023 ABANDON SHIP!! Is everyone leaving Scooter?

Everything I have ever read about Scooter, I don’t respect him enough to write his proper name, is that he puts himself first. Previous clients do not speak highly of his management. Taylor Swift for example.
Interesting fact, Taylor Swift, Halsey (Boy with Luv collaboration with BTS) and Camilla Cabello (Shawn Mendes is her ex) gave a great performance of “Shake it off” at the American Music Awards in Nov 2019.
Perhaps when Justin’s health issues became too grave to hide from the public or Justin himself refused to be held to his contract, (and perhaps Justin sold his catalog to cover his costs/penalties of canceling his tour) Scooter had an empty sandbox with no one to play with.
And, having lost his main source of income and having a keen head for business, (vulture capitalist) he had already set his sights on a new revenue stream. Of the seven BTS members, one in particular had released songs by Justin Bieber, proving he had what it took to be successful in the western market.
Jungkook has been a Bieber fan since he debuted with BTS. He ticks all the boxes needed for the western market, doesn’t he? Masculine build, tattoos, piercings, outstanding vocal ability and dance skills/technique and is a member of the greatest musical group in history?
No wonder Scooter went to the White House with BTS. Had to be sure to be there at the Grammys too. Front and center as though he was responsible for their success.

Confusing isn’t it?
1) Hybe buys Ithaca holdings April 2021
-$ 1 billion + reportedly
2) Justin Bieber Tour is canceled several times, and he pulls out of remaining tour dates February 2023
- $ unknown
3) Scooter buys Quality Control music one month after being named CEO of Hybe America February 2023
-$ 300 million
4) Hybe buys 14.8 % stock in SM entertainment February 2023
-$ 334.5 million
5) Hybe sells stock in SM entertainment for
+ $ 191.8 million March 2023
Well thank goodness for BTS. In 2022, their PTD tour earned:
+ $ 230.7 million concert revenue for PTD Tour
+ $ 32.6 million from PTD theater showing, limited engagement, in 3711 cinemas
Someone had to keep the lights on in that new building and families of the employees fed.
Which brings us back to Jeon Jungkook, Bieber admirer, a man who most definitely fits the “western audience appeal”, possessing talent beyond what we in the west have seen in many years.
And then there’s his equally talented, gifted dancer “Bro” Jimin who broke all the records right before him but does not bow down to those who whisper behind his back, lol.
And by coincidence, their music videos, promotional materials for their solo albums and many of their conversations seem to hinting at something 😉
Oh Scooter, it isn’t fun when someone beats you at your own game, is it?
When in doubt as to what is going on in an organization, follow the $$$.
I firmly believe the budget allowed for BTS’s chapter 2 “solo period” was capped due HYBE’s financial acquisitions at the same time.
In my opinion.
***
Now, @westcoastgal1,
I commend the effort you've put into this ask and I can tell you're trying to build a case for your theory(-ies), but I'm not sure what exactly that theory is.
Is it that "I firmly believe the budget allowed for BTS’s chapter 2 “solo period” was capped due HYBE’s financial acquisitions at the same time." ?
Is it that Scooter is broke and HYBE shifted financial resources from BTS to support him and their SM acquisition? Didn't HYBE tap capital markets precisely to raise proceeds for that purpose though? Or is it that Scooter is looking for a windfall in BTS now that his old roster of artists have abandoned ship?
But then, what is the implication here?
"And then there’s his equally talented, gifted dancer “Bro” Jimin who broke all the records right before him but does not bow down to those who whisper behind his back, lol.
And by coincidence, their music videos, promotional materials for their solo albums and many of their conversations seem to hinting at something 😉"
Is it that Jimin wasn't willing to play Scooter's balls like JK did apparently? But he had no issues accepting the Fast & Furious gig? And if so, what's the takeaway here? How does this tie in to the similarities in their concept pics styling, etc, so far?
You've already put quite some effort into building out this timeline so I hate to ask you to do more work, but I'm afraid the dots aren't quite connecting for me just yet. If you'd like to send me a follow up ask succinctly explaining what you mean, I'd appreciate it. Otherwise, all I can say is this looks like a variation of the same fan theories I've seen people come up with to explain Jimin's solo rollout relative to Jungkook's. The fact there's so much discourse around it indicates something else to me, but I'll let the dead horse be.

Taylor Swift has reached an agreement with two songwriters to end a five-year long copyright lawsuit claiming she stole the lyrics to “Shake It Off” from an earlier song about “playas” and “haters,” resolving one of the music industry’s biggest legal battles without a climactic trial or ruling.
In a joint filing made on Monday in California federal court, attorneys for both Swift and her accusers – songwriters Sean Hall and Nathan Butler – asked a judge for an order “dismissing this action in its entirety.” Before the deal, a trial had been scheduled to kick off in January.
The public filings did not include any specific terms of the apparent settlement, like whether any money exchanged or songwriting credits would be changed. Attorneys for both sides and a rep for Swift did not immediately return requests for comment.
The agreement means a sudden end for a blockbuster case that seemed headed toward the next landmark ruling on music copyrights. Following legal battles over Robin Thicke’s “Blurred Lines” and Led Zeppelin’s “Stairway to Heaven,” the case against Swift posed fundamental questions about the limits of copyright protection, with her lawyers arguing that the accusers were trying to “cheat the public domain” by monopolizing basic lyrical phrases.
Hall and Butler first sued way back in 2017, claiming Swift stole her lyrics to “Shake It Off” from their “Playas Gon’ Play,” a song released by R&B group 3LW in 2001. That was no small accusation, given the song in question: “Shake It Off” debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 in September 2014 and ultimately spent 50 weeks on the chart, a mega-hit even for one of music’s biggest stars.
In Hall and Butler’s song, the line was “playas, they gonna play, and haters, they gonna hate”; in Swift’s track, she sings, “‘Cause the players gonna play, play, play, play, play and the haters gonna hate, hate, hate, hate, hate.” In their complaint, the duo said Swift’s lyric was clearly copied from their song.
In the years since, Swift’s attorneys repeatedly pushed to dismiss the case, arguing that a short snippet of lyrics about “players” and “haters” was not creative or unique enough to be covered by copyrights. They cited more than a dozen earlier songs that had used similar phrases, including 1997’s “Playa Hater” by Notorious B.I.G and 1999’s “Don’t Hate the Player” by Ice-T.
Swift initially won a decision in 2018 dismissing the case on those grounds, with a federal judge ruling that Hall and Butler’s lyrics were not protected because popular culture in 2001 had had been “heavily steeped in the concepts of players, haters, and player haters.” But an appeals court later overruled that decision, and a judge ruled last year that the case would need to be decided by a jury trial.
Even though there are some noticeable differences between the works, there are also significant similarities in word usage and sequence/structure,” the judge wrote at the time.
More recently, Swift’s team again asked the judge to dismiss the case, this time making a new argument: That documents turned over during the case had revealed that Hall and Butler voluntarily signed away their right to file the lawsuit in the first place.
In an August filing, Swift’s lawyers said the documents proved that Hall and Butler had granted their music publishers the exclusive rights to bring an infringement lawsuit over the song, meaning they lacked the legal standing to do so. Her lawyers said the pair had even emailed their publishers – Sony Music Publishing and Universal Music Publishing Group, respectively – asking for permission to sue, but that both companies had refused the request.
“After their music publishers refused to assign to plaintiffs the claim they assert in this action, their manager unsuccessfully lobbied a United States Congressman to get a House sub-committee to intervene,” Swift’s lawyers alleged in the filing.

NEAR THEM, THEIR SISTERS FOUR; THE GORGONS, WINGED WITH SNAKES FOR HAIR — HATRED FOR MORTAL MEN.
MEDUSA are a four member girl group consisting of members Choi Gain, Son Jiyeon, Yu Chaerin and Hirono Ikumi, better known by her stage name, Hero. The group was put together by Valentine Records in 2018, when fourteen trainees were selected from a pool of fifty to be sorted into three debut teams. Dubbed Debut Team B, the five girls to be selected for the girl group prepared alongside their to-be brother groups Tarot and Sour Candy for two years. Medusa were second to make their debut in late 2020, following several delays necessitated by the abrupt departure of former member Zhang Shiyu, who was unceremoniously dropped by Valentine after being photographed on several dates with fellow trainee Jung Jumin just days after the announcement of their planned debut date. Despite their rocky beginnings, the group debuted to a level of success that even the lofty Valentine Records hadn't expected. With their debut single Paint The Town skyrocketing up the charts, Medusa quickly earned the highest selling debut under the company, and broke many other records, cementing them as monster rookies straight out of the gate.
Medusa are known for their high budget, cinematic music videos. Their visual media depicts the girls in the role of superheroes (though this could be through a number of different lenses; from comic books to morning cartoons, blockbuster movies to magical girl anime, etc.) Medusa's sound is often described as chaotic and cool, characterised by a slick production and often a playful delivery. Medusa's music tends to centre empowerment and explore the subject of gender. This, alongside the members' own values, has made them a common target of antifeminist groups; resulting in an influx of negative articles and rumours spreading about the girls throughout their career. Since the villain figures of the Medusa's hero themed videos are typically male, the backlash of Medusa's (corporately inoffensive) female empowerment message became so ridiculous that the group were accused of 'inciting violence against men.' Though it's unconfirmed that it was in relation to the article, the same day it was posted member Choi Gain tweeted; 'this is the happiest day of my life.' The hate train reached it's peak in 2022, when their song Trash was banned from broadcast due to 'derogatory language.' The song, which encourages a third party to dump their unfaithful boyfriend, was taken out of context, and misrepresented as 'man-hating' by certain online communities, exacerbating the hate thrown Medusa's way. The song was not altered or resubmitted for approval, and promotions for the track were cut from a full music show run to a few fanmeetings. Unconfirmed rumours spread online that the Trash era was 'cancelled' because the girls refused to censors it's lyrics in order to appeal the ban. This is widely regarded as fake today, but it does align with the group's activity suddenly slowing to a crawl, which some believe to be Valentine' idea of a punishment. (What record label would be stupid enough to keep money out of their own pockets just out of spite? Well. Valentine Records.) No news of Medusa's comeback was given throughout the majority of 2023 until the final quarter of the year. Though November saw the release of their first full album, Made You Look!, which achieved critical acclaim and won the group Best Album at the 33rd Seoul Music Awards, promotion and rollout for the record was nowhere near as in depth as those for Sour Candy or Tarot's first full lengths. Despite the success of the album, the conclusion of it's promotions ushered in another period of inactivity for the group, with only very recent reports confirming work on their next record was underway.
While Valentine's lazy management of a group with such selling power is baffling to most, Medusa have still amassed a huge, vocal fanbase off the back of their talent, musical quality, and tenacity in the face of constant scrutiny. However, no matter how many charts they top, or awards they win, there's no hiding from the unsurmountable expectations on their shoulders to uphold the legacy set by the legendary girl groups to have come out of Valentine Records before them. Living up to those expectations, however, would probably seem a little less Sisyphean for the girls of Medusa if the man who'd benefit most from them reaching the top would quit kicking them back down the mountain again.

His music protested apartheid, slavery, and government; and the hardships individuals were living. He reached a large population that felt oppressed due to the country’s situation.
Following a Manhattan Brothers tour of South Africa, he wound up in the orchestra of the musical King Kong, written by Todd Matshikiza. How Drake Became World’s Most Popular Pop Artist- Drake’s Success Story
Tumblr media
Drake, a Canadian rapper & singer, has maintained a strong commercial presence since his debut in 2006, whether through his own chart-topping releases or a long line of guest appearances on songs by Lil Wayne, Rihanna, and A$AP Rocky. Each of his albums, from 2011's Take Care to 2018's trap-influenced Scorpion, topped charts worldwide, as did singles like the Grammy-winning "Hotline Bling" and numerous of his mixtapes, thanks to his contemplative rap style, smooth R&B crooning, and gold-touch lyricism. As his reputation grew, he aided others by financing the Weeknd's early efforts, launching the OVO Sound label, and including up-and-coming artists on his songs. Drake's consistent chart dominance, Grammy wins, nominations and meme-worthy cultural presence made him one of the world's most popular singers by the second decade of his career, and the release of albums like 2021's Certified Lover Boy became global events. Let's take a look at Drake's success story. #TWN
In March, Aubrey 'Drake' Graham had his 208th hit record on the Billboard Hot 100 charts. Lil Yachty and DaBaby's appearance on Oprah's Bank Account followed several major releases from the rapper, including his first hit single Best I Ever Had, in 2009, Hotline Bling in 2015, and a guest appearance on Rihanna's 2016 blockbuster Work. Pain 1993, featuring Playboi Carti, earned Drake's 38th top-10 hit in the US in May, matching Queen of Pop Madonna. Drake is so wealthy that one mattress in his 50,000-square-foot, $100 million Toronto mansion, dubbed The Embassy, costs $400,000. (included in the price is someone who visits the property to turn it over).
It's one thing for a non-American rapper to make such an impact in hip-hop, but Drake transcends the genre. With over 28 billion streams, he was Spotify's most-streamed artist of the decade. All five of his albums, as well as three of his mixtapes, have charted at number one in the United States and around the world. He was the first artist on Apple Music to reach 10 billion streams, and he was the most-streamed musician on Spotify in 2018, with 8.2 billion. Drake is almost sure to smash more records in 2020, thanks to a new mixtape (Dark Lane Demo Tapes) and an upcoming album anticipated this summer.

The "Snow King" who was put away is difficult to copy
Tumblr media
Mixue Bingcheng has emerged in the beverage market with the brand IP of "Snow King". This article will deeply analyze the reasons why "Snow King" became popular, what kind of value this IP has, and explore the close connection HE Tuber between brand IP and corporate development. Let’s take a look.
Recently, Mixue Bingcheng’s prospectus has aroused heated discussions in the industry. Based on the number of stores as of September 30, 2023, and the cup volume in the first nine months of 2023, Mixue Bingcheng has become the number one ready-made beverage company in China and the second in the world.
This is an outstanding result. But for most consumers, Mixue Bingcheng’s overwhelming presence began in 2018. This year, the "Snow King" was born, and the magical theme song, "You love me and I love you, Mixue and Ice City is sweet" sounded on the Internet and in the streets.
"Snow King" became popular, and Mixue Ice City ushered in another milestone in its development history.
To this day, there are still endless hot topics about "Snow King" on social media. You have most likely seen the funny video of "Snow King" walking on the street, the Hong Kong-style blockbuster "Walking in Hong Kong Alone", and you may also have seen it at music festivals and various brand co-branded activities.
The "Snow King" appeared in Hong Kong, and netizens asked him to "take care of yourself" in the barrage

In fact, the connection between brand IP and corporate development has always been a hot topic. In the prospectus, "Shenxiang" noticed that Mixue Bingcheng even included "Snow King" in its competitive advantages. For a company with roots in bricks and mortar, this is somewhat surprising. It is necessary to systematically understand the value of Snow King:
Why is "Snow King" so popular?
Why is it said that "Snow King" is difficult to copy?
What long-term value can "Snow King" bring?
1. The freed "Snow King"
"Why do you like the Snow King?" If you ask this question to different people, you will get different answers.
"Funny and uninhibited" is one answer. Fans will follow "Snow King"'s daily "street life" and be immersed in the brainwashing music and second-generation videos of "You love me and I love you, Mixue Bingcheng is sweet' '. Videos of the "Snow King" traveling around and infiltrating various Internet celebrity cities always attract a lot of attention - a while ago, the Snow King wore Hanfu and went to Luoyang's Yingtian Men to shoot a blockbuster. Before "Erbin" became popular, Snow King had already put on a seasonal limited-edition "Northeast Skin '' floral cotton jacket and gave everyone a talent show.
"Snow King" wears Hanfu at Yingtian Men and performs Yangko in Northeast China

Young people like "Snow King"'s vitality at the music festival and his enthusiasm in the "Snow King Arrives" animation. They can also see themselves in "Snow King" who fishes at work and sings songs after get off work. Its linkage with IPs such as Danzi and Luo Tianyi will make people shout "double chef ecstasy". The donations made during flood relief and the children's books donated by the library have allowed people to see the social responsibility of this "funny guy".
"Snow King" is versatile and versatile. It can be integrated with all kinds of scenes, brands, and cities you can imagine or imagine. This is the source of its vitality and the result of Mixue Ice City’s “stocking”.
In terms of image, the "Snow King" is simple and cute - he wears a crown, a red cloak, holds an ice cream scepter, and has a round body. These elements are familiar to everyone and have super high visual recognition and memory. Therefore, we will see that while it is popular in China, "Snow King" is also very popular in countries with different cultures such as South Korea, Vietnam, and Australia.

Interestingly, the various "personalities" of "Snow King" do not seem to be intentionally created by the brand. Whether it is funny or responsible, the quality of "Snow King" comes from the co-creation and dissemination of netizens. Mixue Bingcheng did not forcefully create a character for "Snow King", but allowed fans of different ages and personalities to give it different characteristics to make its image fuller.
Traditional film and television IPs have “characters” and stories. However, in recent years, IPs such as Bubble Mart and Lina Belle have become popular, proving that IPs can also become popular without forcing a concave character or a background story. Fans will project their emotions on their favorite IP, connect the dots of the IP on social media, and piece together a unique character story.
Just like a screenwriter can only write amazing chapters, the audience can give the characters lasting vitality. With the support of UGC (user-generated content), "Snow King" has almost unlimited plasticity and ductility, so we will see "Snow King '' blend into various scenes without any sense of dissonance. The integration with social hotspots and life scenes further dilutes the commercial attributes of "Snow King '' - this cute snowman is not a tool to 'sell goods' ', but a "cultural symbol that accompanies everyone "".
2. “Companionship” is difficult to replace
Because of the popularity of "Snow King", Mixue Bingcheng has also gained a large number of fans. The prospectus shows that as of December 24, 2023, the cumulative exposure of topics related to the theme songs of "Snow King" and "Mixue Ice City" on major social platforms exceeded 8.7 billion and 8.4 billion times respectively. As of September 30, 2023, the number of Mixue Ice City members exceeded 215 million.
Many people study "Snow King" and try to copy "Snow King", but this is much harder than it seems.
"Company" is scarce and has lasting power. Think about it, you probably have an old thing that has accompanied your growth and witnessed your highs and lows. Because of its "companionship", it has a value that far exceeds the price of the commodity itself, and is difficult to replace with other items.
The same is true for IP. Doraemon, Hello Kitty, Pikachu, Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck, Disney princesses...these IPs, which have been popular for decades, are accompanied by film and television images, model dolls, cultural and creative peripherals, offline parks, commercial cooperation, etc. As we move from childhood and adolescence to adulthood, the corresponding emotional bonds will even be passed on to the next generation.
"Companionship" is also the secret for IP to travel through time cycles. What distinguishes "Snow King" from other brand IPs is also "companionship". It is not a "Logo" that lacks vitality or an image that only appears in trading scenes - children will feel brave in the red cloak of the "Snow King"; when students see the "Snow King", they will think of being with their friends. The youthful atmosphere of playing together and adding ice to the bubbles; people in the workplace will feel comforted by the resonance when they see the "Snow King" who is also a worker.
Stills from "The Snow King Arrives"
People of different generations and different personalities can establish a connection with "Snow King". As time goes by, the sense of companionship brought by "Snow King" will continue to deepen. IPs that can cover the general public and provide "thousands of people with thousands of faces" emotional value are rare, especially for a brand IP.
Different brands have their own vertical audiences. The price of luxury goods determines that even if it has a good IP, it is difficult to be liked by everyone. Of course, it does not need to be liked by everyone; only people with the same taste will appreciate niche brands. But "Snow King" is different. It is associated with a high-frequency consumer brand, and the "easiness" of the product provides it with the possibility of being accepted by more people.
This sense of “easiness” is expressed in Mixue Bingcheng’s prospectus as “high quality and affordable price”. The entrepreneurial history of Mixue Ice City can be traced back to 1997, when it was still a small shop called "Cold Current Shaved Ice". For more than 20 years, whether it is shaved ice in the early days, or ice cream and lemonade later, Mixue Ice City has focused on making "high-quality and affordable delicacies" at different stages. So far, all products are priced at RMB 6 up and down.
The products are easy to obtain and almost no purchase decision is required, giving "Snow King" a foundation that everyone loves. The "no design" free range allows different people to find resonance and project emotions on "Snow King". This kind of emotional connection is long-lasting and difficult to replace.
3. Snow King Snowball
Looking around the world, industry benchmarks such as Coca-Cola, Starbucks, and Apple generally have a "super symbol." The difference is that when moving IP becomes a super symbol and enters people's daily life, it represents not only a company or a product, but also emotional qualities such as love, sweetness, joy, etc. that are closely related to people, and It will become an important driving force for the sustainable development of enterprises.
The same is true for "Snow King". While it has become an important asset, it will also roll out even bigger "snowballs" in the future.
In terms of going to sea, "Snow King" is a well-deserved "pioneer". Currently, going global is the common goal of many Chinese brands, but as "outsiders", how to quickly integrate into the local area is a big problem. At this time, a vivid IP image can undoubtedly play a "leverage" role. A cultural symbol that is deeply rooted in people's hearts is better than various desk materials.
While helping to expand, the everlasting red of "Snow King" is also conducive to maintaining the vitality and vitality of the brand. Competition in the ready-made beverage industry is fierce, and brands need to constantly innovate. Snow King is a very good carrier. It can be combined with various popular topics and Internet hot spots to bring a steady stream of attention to the brand.
In this regard, the example of Disney can be used as a reference. After a hundred years of development, Disney has cultivated long-term IPs such as Mickey and Donald Duck, and allowed users to rely on a single IP to develop into a sustainable emotional relationship with Disney itself. As both cultural symbols, Snow King may continue similar ideas and collide with more different fields (Snow King x film and television, Snow King x games, etc.).
For Mixue Bingcheng, this may be another growth path.

29. Millennial Survey
From someone who's on the cusp between a Millennial and Gen Z-er
What year were you born in?
1995
Do you remember a time before smartphones and social media?
Yup. I think I got my first smartphone either when I was finishing middle school or entering high school. Before it was all about flip phones and slide phones.
Were you part of the generation that experienced the transition from dial-up internet to broadband?
Oh yes. Until I was about 12-13, I barely ever used internet because it was dial-up and so obnoxiously slow. Other people already had broadband by that point, but we got it a bit late.
Did you grow up watching Saturday morning cartoons?
Yees. I didn't have Nickelodeon and Disney when I was a kid, but we had local channels playing blocks of cartoons every Saturday and Sunday morning, and I think they were similar to what could be found on those channels. I remember distinctly that I wasn't allowed to watch Ren & Stimpy, but I secretly did anyway before my parents got up lol
Do you have any memories of using floppy disks or cassette tapes?
Not floppy disks and not so much cassette tapes, though I think we had a few. CDs were a bigger thing.
I do remember watching Disney cartoons on VHS though, we had so many of those when I was very young.
How did you communicate with your friends before the advent of text messaging?
Either landline or we would go to each other's house, stand outside, and yell at the top of our lungs for the other person to come out. I don't know why we never simply went to the door and rang the bell, I just know we were always yelling lol
Were you a fan of any particular boy band or girl group during your teenage years?
Actually no. And I have to say, the only boy band that I remember from my teen years was One Direction. I think they formed when I was around 15 and broke up when I was 20, so technically they should be my teen boy band, but I was into alternative, rock, and metal. I'm into a boy band now though lol
Did you ever own a portable CD player or a Walkman?
Nope, I had an MP3 player for a while though.
What was your favorite video game console when you were growing up?
I didn't actually have any, nor did any of my friends have any. I only used my computer for games, and only the illegal versions a friend of a friend managed to obtain somehow lol. Ah, those were the days.
Did you ever use AOL Instant Messenger (AIM) or MSN Messenger to chat with friends?
Not really. I think I had MSN, but I only used it once or twice before I switched to chatting on Skype.
Were you aware of the Y2K bug and the associated concerns leading up to the year 2000?
Definitely not, I was younger than 5. I only learned about the whole thing years and years later.
Did you ever rent movies from a physical video rental store like Blockbuster or Hollywood Video?
Yes, not from those, but we had our local video rental stores that we got CDs from.
Were you into MySpace or LiveJournal during the early days of social networking?
Actually no, because I think those two things weren't as big here as they were in the West. Like, I always hear people online talk about MySpace days, but I never hear anyone irl ever mention they used MySpace.
What was your first experience with online shopping?
Ooh, that was very very late. I don't remember exactly when I started online shopping, but I think it came here only after 2010s and I didn't use it anyway because I didn't have my own money. So I guess I only really started online shopping after 2018 when I made enough. I never wanted to ask my parents to buy me something online because I felt they'd think it's sketchy lol.
Did you ever participate in a flash mob or witness one in person?
Nope.
How did you discover new music before the rise of streaming platforms like Spotify?
I think mostly Youtube. Like, you'd listen to something and get a bunch of other songs in the similar genre recommended to you. Also, friends from school would mention this band or that band is cool, check them out and then I would.
Were you a fan of the "Harry Potter" book series or the "Twilight" saga?
Yes to both. I grew up on Harry Potter, learned to read thanks to Harry Potter and I pretty much credit it for the path I chose to take in life because I really think it instilled the love for literature in me. I know it has fallen out of grace these days and it was painful to learn about the whole J.K. Rowling thing, but I can't deny its impact on me or pretend that I now hate the book series.
And Twilight was absolutely my jam in middle school. I didn't care about the romance at all, but I always loved vampires. Even if Twilight vampires are a bit, well, not traditional lol
Did you ever have a MySpace profile and customize it with HTML and CSS?
Nope.
What was your favorite TV show or cartoon during your childhood?
Hmm, Charmed was my favourite show. As for cartoons, there were so so many at different points in my life. There was Spongebob, Dragon Ball, Yu-gi-oh, Tokyo Mew Mew, Pokemon, Winx, Phineas and Ferb...
How did you feel about the transition from traditional television to streaming services?
I didn't feel any particular way. When I got Netflix in 2020, streaming services were already a totally normal, widespread thing and I hadn't properly watched traditional TV for years before that. As always, we were late jumping onto the streaming bandwagon, but it's not like I needed some special mental preparation for it. I just got Netflix, started watching, and was like, wow, this is convenient, I love it.
