"If He Is Kingmaker…": Tejashwi Yadav On Nitish Kumar's Role In NDA
RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav on Thursday said Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar should utilise his position as "kingmaker" in the NDA to ensure special status for Bihar. On Wednesday, photos of the RJD leader sitting with his former boss on a flight to Delhi went viral on social media. Both NDA and INDIA partners flew to the national capital to hold meetings after the Lok Sabha Election results failed to give a majority to the BJP.
"NDA has numbers but we want the government which will be formed to take care of Bihar and ensure that it gets special status. It is a good opportunity for Nitish Kumar if he is the kingmaker, he should make sure that Bihar gets a special status and conduct caste-based census in the entire country," Mr Yadav told news agency ANI, adding that for the first time, PM Modi's "magic was finished" and he would be dependent on NDA allies to form a government.

RJD, Congress In Huddle Amid Talks Of Nitish Kumar's Switch
Nitish Kumar will likely take oath as Bihar Chief Minister again tomorrow, a record ninth time, supported by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) - mirroring a familiar script from the 2020 elections. The political churn has triggered a flurry of activities, with large-scale transfers of officers adding to the suspense. Reports of an imminent change in government are rife, casting a shadow over the current 'Mahagathbandhan' ruling coalition.
The BJP has convened a meeting of its MPs and MLAs today, ostensibly to strategise for the upcoming Lok Sabha polls. State unit chief Samrat Choudhary downplayed speculations of a renewed alliance with Nitish Kumar, but BJP leaders dropped significant hints about behind-the-scenes discussions.
According to sources, Nitish Kumar has convened a session of the legislative party tomorrow. Sources have said that extensive relocations of district magistrates are underway in Bihar, coinciding with rumors of an imminent shift in the government.

Amid this political upheaval, Congress, Nitish Kumar's Janata Dal (United)'s partner in the opposition INDIA bloc, has also called a meeting in Purnea, while denying any connection to the evolving political scenario. The Congress plans to discuss preparations for Rahul Gandhi's 'Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra,' set to enter Bihar on Monday, with public meetings scheduled in Kishanganj, Purnea, and Katihar.
While the immediate focus appears to be on the Lok Sabha elections, sources indicate that the Bihar Assembly won't be dissolved just yet. Both the BJP and JD(U) are engaging with their respective MPs and MLAs to solidify their strategies, setting the stage for a comprehensive realignment in Bihar's political landscape.
However, the return of Nitish Kumar to the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) is not without its complexities. Sources have told NDTV that the intricate game plan includes the nomination of an Assembly Speaker and a cabinet reshuffle.
Former Chief Minister Jitan Ram Manjhi and his Hindustan Awam Morcha are also players in this political chessboard, courted by the BJP to secure a strategic alliance.
Nitish Kumar's political journey, once synonymous with stability and development, has become a tale of flip-flops and realignments. From the acclaimed 'Sushashan Babu' to the enigmatic "Paltu Kumar," his trajectory reflects the evolving dynamics of Bihar's politics.

Chirag dodges queries about prospects at Centre; continues tirade against Nitish
PATNA: Lok Janshakti Party chief Chirag Paswan on Tuesday dodged queries about the likelihood of his joining the Union council of ministers, in which his party has been left with no representation following the death of his father Ram Vilas Paswan. Paswan, however, remarked tongue in cheek that the government at the Centre was doing fine and it was the Bihar cabinet headed by Nitish Kumar where ministers were saddled with too many portfolios and an expansion was much needed. The LJP chief was talking to reporters upon his visit to the state after a long time. His father, who had founded the party two decades ago, died in October last year and in the ensuing by-election to his Rajya Sabha seat, the BJP chose to field its veteran leader and former Bihar deputy chief minister Sushil Kumar Modi. Paswan had said that the seat, though held by his father, “belonged to the BJP” to which he professes to remain loyal despite having pulled out of the NDA ahead of the assembly elections last year. His party had claimed that the young leader was expecting a berth in the Union council of ministers since the party’s rebellion had damaged Nitish Kumar’s JD(U) but helped the BJP emerge as the “big brother” in the NDA in Bihar. On Monday, Kumar had hinted that expansion of the new cabinet, which was formed in November, was likely in near future. His remark came a day after he met top leaders of the state BJP at his official residence where differences arising out of contesting claims by alliance partners have supposedly been ironed out. Nonetheless, Paswan squarely blamed Kumar for the delay in cabinet expansion and alleged that the chief minister has of late been too busy with the affairs of his party which has undergone a major overhaul. Kumar himself relinquished the post of the national president, more than a year before the end of his tenure, and got his close aide RCP Singh appointed in his place. A couple of weeks later, veteran socialist leader and Rajya Sabha MP Vashishtha Narayan Singh also expressed the desire to step down citing old age and unstable health. Former MLA Umesh Kushwaha was appointed to the post. The developments have been seen as an attempt by Kumar to consolidate his support base among the Kurmi-Koeri-Kushwaha caste combine, known as “Luv-Kush” in Bihari political lexicon, in a bid to retain sufficient bargaining power while negotiating with the BJP which appears to have gained an upper hand. Paswan, who has in less than a year emerged as one of the most virulent detractors of Kumar, however, charged that all this showed that “the party, and not the state, is the top priority for our chief minister”. “This is happening at a time when law and order is in a mess and the chief minister holds the Home portfolio. Even well-heeled, well-connected people are being murdered,” Paswan said in an apparent reference to the recent killing of Rupesh Kumar Singh, a senior official of a private airline, which has triggered shock waves in Patna and outrage among political figures many of whom he was said to be friends with. The LJP chief, however, said, “We have made it clear that we will not be doing anything drastic till this new government completes six months. Thereafter, taking into account its achievements and failures, we will launch our programme.”

Nitish Kumar May Exit Alliance In Bihar, Likely To Go With BJP Again: Sources
The INDIA bloc appears to be unravelling as a third key leader – Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar – is likely to change camp. Sources said it is likely that Mr Kumar, in a last-minute U-turn, will partner the BJP in the coming Lok Sabha elections.
Over the last two days, two key leaders – Mamata Banerjee and Arvind Kejriwal– have ruled out any alliance with the Congress in Bengal and Punjab.
For Mr Kumar, 72, this would be the fifth change in camp. Since 2013, he has been swinging between the NDA and the mahagathbandhan, all the while keeping his job in the state intact. He switched sides last in 2022 – barely two years after he had walked out of the Grand Alliance and joined the NDA.
The signs have all been there over the last weeks, with Mr Kumar's comments on dynastic politics and the subsequent retort from Lalu Yadav's daughter expanding the rift. Yesterday, his lack of response to the Congress invite for Bharat Jodo Yatra, put a question mark on his appearance.
The Bharat Ratna for former Bihar Chief Minister Karpoori Thakur appears to have been a turning point scripted in advance.
Sources said Mr Kumar has been upset over the lack of clarity in INDIA bloc's poll preparations and being passed over as a possible Prime Ministerial candidate. The delays to seat-sharing talks for the Lok Sabha polls had been a further aggravation.
