You’re So Last Summer - PROLOGUE
Tumblr media
Logan Delos was a pain in your ass.
His father Jim and your father, Daryl, had been friends since their Scroll & Key days at Yale. They became close in the secret society and continued their close brotherhood as Jim went on to start up Delos and your father became a grossly successful hedge fund manager. From there, Daryl married your mother Bernie, an OBGYN whom he met at a fundraiser for housing for teens in transition. The two fell in love and united their empires, having you shortly after.
Growing up, this meant you wanted for nothing. You took horseback riding lessons with your own horse, had access to the best education private school could provide, and membership to a highly exclusive country club, where your family spent most weekends. It was a comfortable, predictable life, and one you rather enjoyed. There was only one problem.
Logan Delos.
You were objectively privileged- you knew you were, no sense in denying it. But Logan was capital ‘S’ Spoiled. Ungrateful. Entitled. Uppity. He was the poster child of country club elitist. This was only compounded by the fact that Logan was extremely attractive and he damn well knew it. Logan was quick to flash his perfect, bright smile, bat his dark brown eyes, run his long fingers through his black hair if he knew it would get him what he wanted. All the girls, and a lot of the boys, in your social circle simply fawned over him, thought he was just so charming. And sure, perhaps on the surface, Logan was all of those things. Everything Logan did was so spectacular and so impressive and he was just so funny. That’s what he’d have everyone believe, anyways. You didn’t see what the big deal was. He was a good-looking boy who could pull an A in Biology. Revolutionary. But you liked to think you could see right through him and understood he was all surface and no depth.
Much to your dismay, you constantly found yourself in his presence. Jim and your father spent a lot of their free time golfing together, drinking together, hosting dinners together. Even marriage and fatherhood hadn’t managed to drive a wedge between the two. Unfortunately, that meant having Logan as some kind of weird, unwanted, unwelcome brother. Your only real reprieve was school, since he went to an all-boys prep school. Small blessings.
Even worse than that, Logan made his attraction to you plain as day. It started when you were both maybe 13, right when his hormones came in like a fucking tornado. He looked at you with hearts in his eyes, chased you all around Liberty National Country Club, and asked you out at least once a month for the last four years, each time met with a resounding “no” from you. This never seemed to deter him, though, even if he did find himself a flavor of the week to occupy his time between asking you out. Not only were boys and dating the furthest thing from your mind- school came first, of course- if you were at all interesting in dating, it sure as hell wouldn’t be Logan fucking Delos.
It was another afternoon spent at Liberty National, Jim and Daryl getting in 18 holes on one of the last nice autumn afternoons. You were posted up in the clubhouse, looking east out of the massive glass windows, taking in the boats on the Upper Bay. No matter how many times you’d seen it over the last 17 years, the Statue of Liberty and the Manhattan skyline still captured a corner of your imagination. You opened up the little notebook you always carried with you and got swept up in journaling. Sometimes, you wrote poems, sometimes musings. And sometimes, you simply wrote rants you wished you could scream from the top of your lungs, but held them in because doing so would be “un-ladylike”.
“Whatcha got there, hm?” Logan asked from over your shoulder, trying to peer at what you had written on the pages.
“None of your business,” you spat, slamming the notebook closed and slipping it back into your backpack.
“C’mon, you’ve gotta show me your writing one of these days.” Logan perched himself on the edge of the table, looking down at you with that annoying smirk that drove you up a fucking tree.
“I certainly do not,” you huffed, getting up and throwing your backpack on your shoulder. “Why do you care so much anyways?”
“I don’t know. Maybe you’ve got the next Catcher In The Rye in there. What if I was the first one to read it and publish it and make millions?” he smiled as he followed alongside you, clearly not taking the hint that you didn’t want his company. You simply deadpanned and rolled your eyes, not breaking your stride. Logan was still hot on your heel when you finally whipped around abruptly, stopping him in his tracks.
“Why the fuck are you still following me?” you growled.
“You know I love your company. Besides, we only have next summer together before we leave for school. I think we should squeeze in all the quality time that we can,” Logan smiled. You knew he was only doing this to annoy you but goddamn, it was working. “Where are you going to college again?”
“I have told you eight hundred million times, I am going to Yale. Let me say that again- Yale! So don’t ask me again!” you huffed, taking off again for the car.
“Aw, man. You mean you won’t be with me at Columbia? Here I was hoping I’d pledge Sigma Alpha Epsilon, you’d pledge Sigma Delta, and we’d be the unstoppable king and queen of campus,” he sighed, a little bit longing. “Just picture it.” Logan’s arm was now draped over your shoulder as he gestured in front of you, setting the scene for this imaginary future. “You and me going on dates in Central Park, me sneaking into your room late at night, getting drunk and making out in the middle of a party so no other guys there get any ideas.” You shook off his arm then and quickly stepped away.
“No thank you. Guess it just wasn’t meant to be,” you said with a fake smile and exaggerated shrug.
“Oh well. New Haven is only, what? An hour and a half away? We can make long distance work.”
“If you visit me even one time while I’m at school, I will personally make sure you are physically unable to reproduce,” you hiss as you open the back door and toss your backpack inside.
“That a promise?” he asks with a raised eyebrow.
“Oh, fuck off.” You take your seat in the back, hand on the door handle. “You’re so disgusting.” Logan only laughed, clearly pleased with your discomfort.
“You have no idea,” he chuckled darkly. “So, I’ll see you Wednesday?”
You opened your mouth to cuss him out again, turn down his date again. But then you closed your mouth. Fuck. You’d forgotten all about Juliet’s, Logan’s younger sister, birthday dinner. “Yeah. Wednesday,” you grumbled without looking at Logan, slamming the door shut before he could get another word in.
So, yeah. Logan Delos was a pain in your ass.

Task 14: Genderbend → Jocelyn James Michaels,
◇─◇──◇─────◇──◇─◇─────◇──◇─◇──◇─◇ LEGAL NAME, Jocelyn Scarlett James-Michaels. NICKNAMES, Joss, JJ.
AGE, 48 years young.
SOCIAL MEDIA HANDLE, @jjmofficial
OCCUPATION, Defense Attorney and Owner, Michaels & Wyatt, LLC. PERSONALITY TRAITS, Open-minded, ruthless, intelligent, blunt, tenacious, argumentative, passionate, stubborn, affluent, dominant, loving. THREE FAVORITE THINGS, Her Louboutins, strong coffee, and new office supplies.
BIOGRAPHY, Jocelyn Scarlett Michaels was born with a silver spoon in her mouth. Her parents, Geoff and Virginia Michaels, were successful; her mother worked as a Wall Street analyst and her father was an attorney who owned a private practice. She had everything she could've ever wanted and more – at least material-wise. The one thing that always seemed to be lacking was love. See, Geoff and Virginia had never wanted children. They were both 40 when Joss finally came along, and she was a surprise like none other. Still, they decided to keep the kid to carry on their legacies on the big island of Manhattan, New York. It had always been expected of Jocelyn to go into the business or law fields (or both), so her parents placed her in the best school in the district. It wasn’t long before she was basically running the place. She was the queen bee – class president, debutante, voice lessons, pitcher of the softball team, valedictorian, and more. She juggled it all, made it look easy, and bulldozed over anything and anyone in her way. After being accepted into Harvard, Joss continued on her path to greatness, but those that loved her could tell that she was burning out by her second year. She was spiraling – drinking too much and making risky decisions. Though she kept up with her classes, her grades, and her job at her father’s firm, the rest of her life was overtaken by the things she used to fill a void in her chest. She’d always known she was gay, but it wasn’t something she was allowed to acknowledge. When girls would kiss her at parties just to tease the boys, her heart would break somewhere deep down inside. A cotillion-crowned lesbian would be blasphemous within the elite world she lived, and she carried that poisonous belief for 21 years. Up until that point, everyone had believed she would marry her best friend, Joseph. Hell, Joey probably believed it, too. They had been joined at the hip since second grade. Admittedly, she’d let him too close just to selfishly receive comfort, and though he’d always promised he would do anything for her, he moved out of their apartment three days after she came out of the closet. But, as she had always done, Jocelyn kept pushing ever forward. She graduated summa cum laude from Harvard Law and became known as a prestigious and fierce defense attorney who also fought for LGBTQ+ rights. It all came with a steep price, but the pain and stress were worth it to Joss. Her fellow classmates admired her, and bands of people in New York had come to as well once she began her career. Her work in criminal law in her father’s private practice led her to meeting A-list people on the daily. She made waves in the world of justice by defending cases that no one else wanted, ones that were almost impossible to win, and winning them. In 2006, a woman named Annie Palmer, the receptionist at the California branch of her father’s firm, Michaels & Wyatt, contacted Joss and talked her into taking her innocent cousin's case. Jocelyn eventually moved to California in order to work on the trial of Gabriella James – a convicted murderer who Joss freed on a wrongful conviction charge in 2010. She was also the woman with whom Jocelyn fell head over heels in love. Though it was a scandal for the ages, Joss and Ella wed in 2008 and have (technically) been married ever since. There have been ups and downs, but at present, Jocelyn tells everyone who will listen that she’s the happiest she’s ever been. It’s hard for her to understand how she deserves the life she has now. Case in point? Despite that she’d always wholeheartedly believed she didn’t want kids, Ella’s granddaughter turned out to be the missing piece of her heart. They won custody of her in 2020, and raising her has been the biggest honor of Jocelyn’s existence. Joss, her wife, and their (grand)daughter live in Manhattan in a luxurious home that they renovated together. To this day, she’s still the most infamous defense attorney in the eastern United States. She can most often be found at work, running, spoiling her pets and her family, at New York Yankees baseball games, drinking expensive wine off of Fifth Ave., or rushing down the street between the prison and the courthouse.
SECRET, At age 20, Jocelyn asked her best friend, Joseph, to fake a marriage certificate with her. She even printed it on an official Michaels & Wyatt letterhead to make it more persuasive. A week later, she had an appointment with a new OBGYN. Two weeks after that, she had her tubes permanently tied. Since then, when anyone queries if she’s going to have biological children, she tells them she was born sterile – after she rips them a new one for asking, of course.

Welcome!
Nora May Rayburn
Age: 33
Birthday: June 13, 1988
Gender/Pronouns: Female & She/her
Faceclaim: Tracy Spiridakos
Occupation: Robbery-Homicide Detective
Neighborhood: The Village View
Birth Place: New York City - Manhattan
How long have they been in Pine River: Just arrived
About.
Trigger Warnings: infertility
Nora May Rayburn was born on a bright, sunny day in the middle of June in the beautiful city of Manhattan in New York. Her family consisted of her parents, Robert and Juliet Rayburn along with her younger sister, Tatum. Growing up in the big, exhilarating city of New York City, with the celebrities and the constant big events going on, Nora found herself living a pretty normal life. She enjoyed playing sports such as softball and soccer and loved being an active kid. Her and her sister, Tatum always got along and they were only two years apart so it was like they were best of friends. She always admired how hard her parents worked to make their lives great so she dedicated to be a great daughter, sister, team player and student.
Nora always had great grades in school and she was even the captain of her soccer team in high school her junior and senior year. When it was time for her to go to college, she wanted to stay near her family so she decided to go to New York University. She allowed herself to let loose and party during college, especially with sleeping around and getting way too drunk for her own good. That's what college was all about and while she loved her partying side, she was also very studious and ended up majoring in criminal justice and got her degree in that as well. Nora never thought about what career would be best for her until she saw how hard working the police officers were for the city of New York and she admired them so much that she decided to get her masters in criminal justice and went to the academy to become a police officer.
Nora loved her career as being a police officer for the city of New York, knowing that she could protect the people of this beloved city, especially her family. Her family was everything to her and she wanted to keep them safe forever. After a few years of being a police officer, she took the detectives exam and started her job in the homicide unit back in her home of Manhattan. Nora had dated around and had flings, but it wasn't until she met the man that would change her life forever, Cooper Elias Hawkins. Not only were the two partners for a long time but they quickly became the best of friends and soon enough, she was falling in love with him. Of course she knew that she was walking a fine line of being in love with her partner in the unit, her co-worker, but he felt the same for her and they started dating in secret.
Now they both obviously knew that they were walking a fine line of dating, especially moving in together, but their love for each other was out of this world. Nora would do anything for him and Cooper would do anything for her. They knew everything about each other and they wanted to spend every second with each other. It wasn't until she found an engagement ring and while she was really excited to find it, she also knew that they were taking this a little too fast. Even the talk of marriage caused them to fight. This lead to more fights and while the fighting was stressful, Nora found out some other drastic news. At an appointment with her OBGYN, she found out that she was infertile. This broke her heart especially because she did want to marry Cooper eventually and have kids with him when she was ready.
When Nora came home from the appointment, she was going to sit down with Cooper to talk about it when he told her that their sargent found out about them and before she knew it, Cooper had requested to leave the unit and city altogether and transfer. Nora felt her heart breaking even more and just like that, Cooper left the unit and her. For days she cried and she even spent a lot of time with her family to help heal her heart, but all she wanted was to spend the rest of her life with Cooper. After some time with her family, she got back to work and eventually she was transferred as well to a small town called Pine River in Virginia. Not only was she now in the robbery homicide unit, but she never knew until now that Cooper was transferred here as well.
Personality.
+ Outgoing, Determined & Loyal - Stubborn, Impatient & Blunt

prompt 3: Karen telling Matt and Foggys shes pregnant with Frank Castle's child
@frankcastle how dare you.
This is a thing people do, they talk about it.
It’s not Union Allied, there isn’t a non-disclosure, no money changed hands – unless you count the fifteen dollars she paid the pre-pubescent cashier at the drug store across the street. A high price, to pee on a stick.
Months, it’s been months. Two, to be precise. Frank knows because, well, he’d caught her hugging the toilet bowl more mornings than he’d found her in bed, and because he’s honest so Karen tried her hand at reciprocity. Turns out the ‘throwing himself in front of bullets’ for her was Frank playing fast and loose because he’s turned that hypervigilance up to eleven and she can’t even find it in herself to be anything other than understanding.
It’s a big change, leading the life that she did, bottle after bottle, and going to bed alone – to .. this. Not real domesticity, but as close as Karen Page and Frank Castle got.
She can’t decide if she likes it. Coffee, with someone else reading the paper. Showering, and sometimes Frank joins her, wordlessly washing her hair. Making sure there’s a backstock of prenatals, and he cooks for her whenever she’s home.
It’s like he thinks she’s fragile, his love made of spun glass and hanging over an open flame. But there isn’t an ounce of patronization in it, so Karen doesn’t mind it.
Not really.
So this is a thing people do. They tell their friends.
It’s an unseasonably cold morning. Like it’s mocking her pencil skirt and tights– or that she’s falling into the habit of loose fitting tops, empire waists. She’s not showing, not yet, but you don’t go through all she has without a thick thread of suspicion twining tighter and tighter, laced through every inch of her life. It’s made her cautious, wary. Aside from the time where she got knocked up, evidently.
Maybe breaking the news to Foggy and Matt won’t go as horribly as her fatalistic outlook would have her assume.
She brings in coffee (no one’s noticed that she’d switched to decaf) and hopes that the pastries made by the sweet couple that owns the nearby Moishe’s Manhattan counterpart, would soften the blow.
God, it’s not like they hadn’t seen her covered in blood. It’s not like, at one point or another, they thought she’d killed a man. Hell, now they even know she has but the ‘Nelson, Murdock & Page’ sign mocks her through the mottled, frosted glass and she’s not even focused on Foggy thanking her profusely for his morning pick me up.
“I’m pregnant.” Karen didn’t mean to blurt it in the lobby filled with potential clientele. She didn’t mean to – well, her hearings faded out, everything sounds like it’s underwater, so she can’t directly tell how loud she’s being but the looks it’s earned her doesn’t speak to subtlety.
She didn’t mean for any of this.
Karen knows Matt hears her, he’d have heard her a block away with a thousand other New Yorkers between them.
But Foggy, Foggy just stares.
There’s a beat of absolute silence, or maybe it just feels that way because she can’t hear through the din of monumental change.
It’s also the first time she’s said it out loud. Which makes it more real than the two lines on a stick, than the ultrasound snapshot in her purse.
Because now her best friends know about it, and they haven’t said a word.
Karen doesn’t really give them the chance to though. Which isn’t fair. But she turned on her heels and left with her coffee, and her purse in hand.
She didn’t need to expand on the announcement, they knew that she meant it’s Frank’s. That she’d shacked up with Frank fucking Castle. Matt could smell the cordite, the rubber, the gunpowder. Foggy just used his powers of observation, and he, you know, he’s a lawyer – he’s really good at figuring things out.
Two dings.
A text from Matt. A text from Foggy.
She can’t look at them until she’s home, heart pounding, the sheen of sweat across her brow speaks to how quickly she’d hustled back to her shitty apartment. Frank’s on his feet, he doesn’t … they haven’t spoken at length about any of this, but he can read her without Karen having to say a word.
He just holds her. Arms tight across her shoulders and his forehead nestled against hers. It’s not peace, it’s not comfort. It’s a reminder that throughout all of this, she wouldn’t be alone.
The texts she reads later, wrapped up in bed – Frank’s reading something Curtis had lent him, the cover’s too worn to make out the title, but he’s engrossed in it enough that he doesn’t look over when she pulls out her phone.
Foggy just says, congratulations!
With a fair share of emojis.
And the other text is from Marci. Listing stores she’s scoped out for maternity clothes and recommending all of New York’s best OBGYN’s. She doesn’t even begin to wonder why she has this information on standby, but it makes her smile. Until Karen sees that Matt hasn’t said a word, and assumes the worst of him.
They’ve been working to repair their friendship. But it’s not .. whole. Not right.
She can’t offer Matt any more of her empathy, can’t give him more of her energy. Karen’s tired, and she’s focused and this isn’t her battle. Not anymore.
“I told them,” Frank doesn’t need details. They speak with the in-betweens.
Frank makes a sound like ‘oh really?’
“Yeah I – it went over fine, I guess. It’s – they just need to process it. I sort of yelled it? In the middle of the office?”
She falls asleep with Frank chuckling, a smile buried into the kiss on her cheek.
It’s not perfect. But it’s getting there. It’s not easy. But they’re learning.
And her friends would come into the fold one way or another. She has no doubt in her mind. Or maybe that’s the hidden optimist that’s starving in her heart, desperate to see the good in others.
They’re trying.

OOC: Bio
Mercedes Loriane Jones was an unexpected blessing for her parents. Anthony Jones, a well known family dentist in the Lima, Ohio area, and Lori Jones, the owner of a day spa and salon, already had one child, Royce. Due to some issues with his birth, the OBGYN told them that the likelihood of them having another child was less than 3 percent.  They were definitely disheartened, they had wanted a big family, but they considered themselves fortunate to have their beautiful son.  Five years later, Lori had gone for her yearly check-up and got the surprising news that she was pregnant.
Excitement, then worry were the emotions that kept cycling through the couple throughout the pregnancy.  The delivery was treated with the utmost caution, and there were a few times where things were iffy, but mother and daughter came through with flying colors.
As a child, Mercy, as her family called her, was definitely a bit spoiled, but she was taught to be gracious and humble. She was sweet and had a contagious laugh that lit up the room. The person that doted on her the most was her big brother, Royce.  He would build cardboard box castles for her and play endless games of tea party and hide and seek.  And once she was old enough, he began to share his love of video games with her.  Their parents loved seeing the siblings bond and be so close, even if they did get into pillow fights over Mario Kart.
The Lopez and Jones families were good friends and they spent quite a bit of time together when their busy work schedules allowed.  Santana and Mercedes had become fast friends during a playdate as toddlers, and those two girls would have Royce waiting on them hand and foot.
Even as the girls started elementary school, Royce was there to make sure they were being treated right.  But once he went to middle school, Mercedes didn’t have him at school anymore, and she missed her big brother.  That became even more true as she began 8th grade and kids in school became more cliquish and mean.  If it hadn’t been for Santana, and eventually the other Romantics, Mercedes was sure she would’ve allowed herself to just become another unknown face in the crowd. The Romantics gave her a safe group of friends that allowed her to be herself and ignore the negativity.
Another safe place for Mercedes was church.  Church had always been big part of the Jones family life, and Mercedes found herself spending more time in the choir singing. She didn’t feel judged and she could sing out her frustration at being bullied for things she could not change.  It was her stress relief, and she always felt lighter inside. This was where she really began to fall in love with singing and music.  Her mother arranged for her to take piano lessons so she could learn to read music better, and that Christmas she got her own studio quality keyboard, which enabled her creative mind to write her own songs, even though she didn’t easily share them. They were like her diary and she kept them for her eyes only until about junior year, which was a very important year for her.
Sam Evans was one of the sweetest guys Mercedes had ever met. Their friendship was born out of a love for superheroes.  She had magnets of mostly Marvel characters inside her locker that held up various pictures and notes and they had caught his eye. To say the rest was history would put it mildly. He became a member of the Romantics and one of her closest friends, second only to Santana. He reminded her so much of Royce, and he had an awesome sense of humor, plus they could talk video games and comics for hours.  He had the best voices and could impersonate nearly everyone in their group of friends.  His Santana was legendary.
She had never entertained the thought of them being any more than friends because he was way out of her league for one, and two, he dated one of the most gorgeous girls in school, Quinn Fabray, who was also in their tightknit group. So she was caught completely off-guard when Sam asked her to Sugar Motta’s Valentines party in junior year.  That party cemented one fact inside Mercedes heart: she was in love with Sam Evans.  She had hidden her feelings so well she had even fooled herself that it was solely friendship, but reality came at her in the guise of a sweet southern drawl and a gently hand to hold. They spent the rest of high school together, inseparable and in love.
As graduation loomed, Mercedes had applied to several colleges, but her top choices were Oberlin, Julliard, and Manhattan School of music.  She knew she had the grades to get in, she had several AP classes and was a tutor for other students in English and History.  She had even helped tutor Puck.  Part of her wanted Oberlin because she could stay in Ohio and be close to her family, but she was afraid that would make her too complacent.  She had also applied to a few schools in Tennessee, knowing Sam wanted to go back home once he graduated, but she never told him about that. In fact, no one knew about that but Santana, and she had been sworn to never tell a soul. But it was MSM that won out in the end. They had an amazing program, had offered her a full scholarship, and with Santana going to NYU, she would have her best friend there too.
This also meant that her romantic relationship with Sam would be ending.  She didn’t want to, but after a talk that had kept them both up until the early hours of the morning, they realized that they might ruin their friendship by trying to keep a 900 mile relationship afloat. They wanted different things out of life at that moment, and this was the age where they were supposed to go out and really discover themselves. That summer was the last time she got to see Sam Evans in person.
Living in New York was a huge change from Lima and for the most part, Mercedes adapted to it like a fish to water.  Having Santana around for those moments when she thought she would pack up and go home definitely helped. She studied hard and had a part time job at a radio station, which gave her access to up and coming artists and management where she could network and ask questions.
When she signed up for the USO tour through her school, Mercedes had no idea that she’d run into Noah Puckerman. The military had really worked well for him and it was nice to catch up with him and how his life was going now. They reminisced over high school times and how their friends were doing over drinks and music.  Possibly too many drinks because she brought him back to her hotel room, and one thing led to another.
In the morning, they both agreed that it had been a rush of homesickness, loneliness, and the alcohol that had led to the previous night’s recklessness. It was a mistake, but it was not a dirty regret. They were friends and they had just had a one night stand, it happened and they would move on with no issue or hard feelings.
And that is precisely what happened.  After graduating from MSM, Mercedes was able to get a second job at a record label and studio as a staff background singer and receptionist.  The connections with artists and their managers at the radio station over the years allowed her the chance to sing on a few radio played songs and she even began to pitch some of her songs that she had written.  She knew the road was going to be a long and rough one, but she was always willing to do the work.
Mercedes had goals and was determined to make them happen. And when Puck ended up in nearby Brooklyn after the Army, they’d occasionally get together for jam sessions.  Having another musician around was great for feedback and creative collaborations. They were apparently also good for creating relationships because they were currently engaged and soon to be married in Napa, CA, with a long ago promised road trip with their old Romantics crew beforehand to celebrate.
