@jolapeno is encouraging us all to list the favorite things we've made this year. And @sixhours and @jeewrites are superlative humans and they have tagged me and I am grateful for that!
I'm not gonna lie, y'all. When I'm asked to reflect on what I've created in the fandom this year...well, "depressed" is a word I could use.
But. It's been such a lovely year in the fandom. We were treated to a Fox, a Roman general, a boy-who-never-grew-up, and a penis collector, not to mention the promise of a very flexible scientific-genius wifeguy and sneak peeks of everyone's favorite melancholy apocalypse survivor.
Thank you to everyone who was helping us keep a lookout for nasty folks and helping to combat deplorable behaviors, and thank you to everyone who did their part keeping spirits bright.
And I will be forever grateful for @pedroscouts and @pedrosummercamp ...it literally gave me something to focus on when my days were running away from me and introduced me to some really sassy and hilarious new friends. <3
Still. 2024 put me through a professional and emotional wringer. So. Here's what I'm gonna do. I'm gonna list my wins. First, we'll start with what Jo asked for!
PEDRO PASCAL CHARACTER FANFICTION
Okay. So the rules said it had to be a finished project. Playing by the rules, I would have nothing to post. Nothing. Zero. Zilch. Poop. So, in the interest of choosing joy, breaking the rules it is!
Fluffbruary Six-Sentence Ficlets - multiple I tried, y'all. I tried real hard. I got through 15! And I was making a new header for each one! And then life got real busy and I had to stop. But I have every prompt assigned and I decided I'm gonna reblog the first half and post the second half this February. I know they're not a popular series, but they make me happy, so they're getting doing!
Leave Off Your Wandering - Joel Technically, I did finish this one, since I had always planned for it to be just the four parts. But at the end of the Winter chapter, I realized it needed an epilogue, so there's another chapter coming. And it's not far off. I may finish it before the end of the year and then it will really not be a lie. But first.....
That Awooo Inside You (Part 1, Part 2) - Fink This may not qualify yet, but the final chapter will be finished before the end of the year. I have it half written and there's a chapter pic ready to go. Proof:
.
And that's mainly it. I did write some pieces for @morallyinept's spooky moodboards as well and really enjoyed that! But that's been what I've been able to do. So to combat the whomp whomp in my heart about it, I include here another list after the tags.
tagging! @katareyoudrilling @secretelephanttattoo @fromthedeskoftheraven @goodwithcheese @walkingaline
And you!
Your Favorite Things 2024 with Jo

Cool Announcements Wow!!!
Good afternoon friends and followers!! I'm sorry for the severe lack of art lately, but there are two things that I'm really excited to share with you all!! So lets just dive straight in!! To begin, I'm incredibly excited to announce that I am going to be a page contributor for @we20vekatamari, a Katamari Damacy fanzine celebrating the series' 20th anniversary!! Everybody has been working incredibly hard, and I'm super excited for you all to see what we've been cooking up! Be sure to follow the zine's official account for updates and more info if you're interested in giving it a look!
Speaking of games having big milestone birthdays; did you know that Yume Nikki will also be celebrating its big 20th this June? Yume Nikki is one of my favorite games, and I'm sure by now a lot of you have noticed all of my 2kki ynoproject screenshots! @ynoproject is in the process of creating its very own Yume Nikki fangame called Collective Unconscious, and I'm lucky enough to share with you all that I'm going to be creating some worlds for the game! My worlds are likely to not be in the very first releases of the game, but keep your eyes peeled!! I'll probably drop a couple of sneak peeks of what I'm cooking up in the following months, so be on the lookout for those as well!! That's just about all for now! Thanks for reading!!

Update for our project
Hello everyone! We apologize for the lack of information here on our Tumblr, as we mainly have been updating on our Twitter for updates. This post is to ensure all statutes on Twitter are up to date here including recent concerns. As we know there have been prolonged delays for our project we want to be as transparent as we can both here and on Twitter to ensure our project reaches completion. Our contributors and mods have worked very hard on this project despite the delays and would like to share our hard work with our supporters and buyers. That being said, below will be our updates:
Mod Ash is now taking up production/finance/shipping for the project. There have been some changes on the mod team, so Mod Ash is now fulfilling these roles. Our current team is as follows Mod Ash- Finance/production/shipping Mod Yozora- Merch/art/graphics Mod Fallen- Head/Writing (former shipping mod) Mod Chaos- brought in recently as our podfic mod
Production will occur fairly quickly as Preorders are currently November 30th opened until mid-January. Our estimated shipping will be in February. We are running a limited edition bundle with an A5 hardcover Journal created by Bringmemisery on Twitter. This will be first come, first serve so please do not delay if you would like one!
Regarding the status of the stage of the project. Zine content and merch designs are already completed and ready to be sent to production. Sample product images are to be updated on both of our socials as soon as they are available.
We are using Shopify for the storefront with login access to our mod team to ensure smooth sailing for finances. The money will remain in Shopify until production is underway.
Contributor previews will be running during our Preorder period, so please keep a lookout for those to receive a sneak peek of our project.
As our project has been very careful to be as accessible as possible, we have provided podfic reading for written pieces as well as accessible layout to ensure we address known community concerns. Please note we may have missed some accessibility features, but have been pushing to ensure we can meet the ones we can.
As of right now, these are the current updates from Twitter up until today. We apologize greatly for the silence here, as we did not intend to leave this socials quiet. We will be regularly updating both here and on Twitter to ensure all supporters and followers receive updates with the latest information.
If there are questions, feel free to DM our Twitter or message here. We thank you for supporting the progress of our project, and will post the Preorder shop shortly. Thank you!

Sneak Peek at a new InuKag fic, “A New Beginning”
“Atarashii Asu” = A New Beginning in Japanese
Summary: Kagome has returned to the Feudal Era for good. As she settles into her new life with Inuyasha, an evil worse than Naraku arrives and wants to make sure all demonkind comes to an end, threatening to destroy the life she’s worked so hard to create.
If you had asked her what it was like going back five hundred years to the past, Kagome would’ve said that it felt like coming home after a long trip. So when she passed through a final time, she embraced it, encouraging that familiar feeling to fill her as her feet landed in the dirt. This is real, right? It has to be. Refusing to think about the heartache that would come if it weren’t, she began her climb into the past.
Gripping the vines, she paused her ascent when a tiny butterfly flittered past, the lavender wings glittering early afternoon sun. Smiling to herself, she allowed it to pass before continuing, freezing completely when a familiar aura came rushing towards her. Heart racing, she clung to the side of the Bone Eater’s Well as a shadow appeared. Taking a deep breath, Kagome looked up.
The first thing she saw was an outstretched hand, each finger with a pointed claw and knew exactly whose it belonged to. Inuyasha. Without another thought, she slid her right hand into his, the hanyou pulling her up and out into the sunshine. Staring into the same golden orbs that filled her dreams every night for the last three years, she swallowed the lump in her throat and said the first thing that came to mind.
“Inuyasha, I’m so sorry. Were you waiting here for me?”
“Kagome, you idiot.” He answered, his hands trembling. “What have you been doing all this time?”
Of course, he would say that. Before she could answer, she was yanked forward, Inuyasha’s arms wrapping around her in a tight hug, her head resting on his shoulder. His warmth surrounded her, Kagome coming to the conclusion that this wasn’t a dream after all. Tears pricked at the corner of her eyes, but her smile never wavered as she returned his embrace. Inuyasha, you waited for me. She remained in his arms, even as footsteps approached, soft gasps filling the clearing.
**Be on the lookout for the first chapter coming at the end of this month, along with some fabulous art by the amazing @heavenin--hell!**

Get to Know Me 2022
Up next is the always-wonderful @winterbythesea !!
How long have you been in the CS/OUAT fandom? Just about 8 years now.
When did you start shipping Captain Swan? When Killian flirted with Emma at the bottom of the beanstalk back in 2012. Things were a little rough for a bit after that, but by the time season 3 started, I was solidly on board.
What drew you to this event? Technically, I was talked into it... not that it was hard to talk me into it. I love fantasy and supernatural stories, so I can't seem to stay away!
What inspired your topic? I watched The Lord of the Rings again a while back and just really wanted to see CS as elves. At first, it was going to be just Emma, but let's be honest, it'd be criminal to miss out on Killian's elf ears.
If you would like to share a snippet/sneak peek/summary of your fic or artwork, please use the space below.
For our artists: What kind of art do you like to do? Picsets, painting, digital, etc? Feel free to give as much info as you like. I do a bit of everything! Mostly digital paintings, but I like making picsets and manips/edits as well, and sometimes I go back to my roots and do a bit of traditional art too, mostly graphite/colour pencils. What are you looking forward to most about participating in this event? The best thing about this event to me is always that we can all hang out and chat and be creative together, it's just really inspiring and fun. I'm already really enjoying working with the author I'm paired with, and I can't wait to see what everyone comes up with!
The Lord of the Rings!!! Elves!!! Count me in!
Be sure to send @winterbythesea some love and be on the lookout for her original artwork for this year’s event!

Cupid's Arrow
by noxsoulmate
Fandom: The Old Guard
Ship: Joe/Nicky
Rating: General Audience
Word Count: 5577
Summary: Nicky is this close to finally becoming a high-ranked Cupid. All he has left to do is to finish his master project – which, of course, just has to be Joe, the one mortal that has been the bane of his existence for almost a millennium now.
Based on the kink meme prompt “Love God accidentally pricks self with his own arrow”
Pretty made by the wonderful @lunaravenclaw9 😘
Sneak peek:
Of course, it had to be him!
Nicky huffed a breath of annoyance. It came out so forcefully that it moved his fringe a little bit, annoying him even more.
Why was it that his master project had to be the one mortal that annoyed him beyond all else?
Leaning against the railing of his lookout, Nicky followed Joe’s every move. From his place on the piazza to the coffee stand to the man that sold hot pretzels and back to his place where he started consuming the bought goods until his next potential customers stopped. He had this stupid smile that, for some reason Nicky couldn’t fathom, drew other humans in and made them spend way too much money on mediocre art. Honestly, his portraits didn’t even look like the people Joe was supposed to draw. Well… maybe they did a little bit. But not really! Nicky was absolutely sure there were better artists out there.
So it had to be that stupid smile that made people stop to watch and finally sit down to get their portrait drawn and pay money for it. Nicky guessed that dumb smile counted as attractive or friendly in the human world or whatever.
For Nicky, it was simply annoying. Joe was annoying! He and absolutely everything about him.
And of course, he had to be the one human Amor had assigned to him for his master project. It was the final step of becoming a Cupid, a full Deity of Love, under the command of Amor. It was a bit depressing, really, that humans believed there to be only one Cupid… by the name of Amor. Mortals were so narrow-minded, really.
In reality, there were hundreds of them. Yes, Amor was essentially their boss, but obviously, she wasn’t the only one in charge of love being spread on Earth. She was, so to speak, the mastermind and also the tutor of apprentices. She was the one to select the candidates from the pool of souls that had decided against another turn on Earth or a quiet stay in Heaven; those who were still looking for purpose in afterlife. She was the one to supervise the rookies to see if they were up to the task of becoming Cupids. She was the one to decide who was to be sent back to Heaven to find another occupation and who was finally allowed into the apprenticeship. She was the one to… okay, yeah, she was a pretty impressive deity.
But that didn’t change the fact that she wasn’t the only one and the higher the rank, the more freedom a Cupid had. Amor would still supervise bigger decisions such as love stories that could change the world or history as humans knew it. But for the smaller, less significant love stories, higher-ranked Cupids were allowed to just follow their gut. Nicky couldn’t wait to be one of those higher-ranked Cupids because had he been there already, he wouldn’t be in this situation.
As it was, he was still an apprentice and this was the final step in his training to climb the ranks.
And of course it had to be fucking Joe!
Nicky huffed out another breath, pretty sure that Amor was having a field day, messing with him like this. After millennia of carrying such a heavy burden, always having to make the perfect match, Nicky guessed she needed some stress relief here and there. He just hated being that stress relief.
It wasn’t as if Nicky had anything against this particular version of Joe – but the man was the reincarnation of earlier versions of Joe that Nicky had… well… to put it mildly… ehm… not such good experiences with.
For example, in Jerusalem, 1099, when Nicolò’s mortal life had ended at the hands of Yusuf.

[Blaseball, Gen, 1.6k words]
The door to Bevan's sanctuary slams open.
"BEVAN!" Steals screeches, her chest heaving with exertion. "What did you DO?!"
Bevan, floating cross-legged in the middle of the room, opens one eye. "Many things, Miss Chark," he says. "I have had a long and storied career as both a practitioner of the arcane arts and a player of blaseball. I'm afraid you'll have to be more specific."
"What did you put in the basement?!" Steals demands, waving her arms emphatically. Her heart, which has been racing ever since her close encounter, starts to slow down as she takes a couple deep breaths.
Bevan opens his other eye and cocks his head. "I didn't put anything in the basement," he says, then taps a finger against his chin thoughtfully. "At least, not to my knowledge."
"What do you mean you didn't?" Steals asks, her eyes going wide. "If you didn't put it there, then what's in the basement?"
"I don't know!" Bevan says. Disturbingly, he doesn't sound at all concerned; rather, he sounds positively gleeful. He stands up from his meditation and descends to stand properly on the ground, his cape settling around him with a swirl. "Let's go and find out."
[read on ao3]
Steals stares at him for a second. Go… back? Go back down there on purpose? Bevan just stands, hands on his hips, and looks at her expectantly.
Steals reluctantly steps back out of the doorway and lets him through, and even more reluctantly follows behind him. He's a wizard, she reminds herself. He can, like, shoot lightning at it.
"So, what is that alarmed you so, Miss Chark?" Bevan asks over his shoulder. He pulls a book from under his cape and it starts floating alongside him. He flips through its pages as he walks. "Some manner of beast? A minotaur, perhaps? A dragon, even?"
"I – I dunno," Steals says, jogging up closer behind him. "I found a door that led down into these, like… I guess they were really hallways, but they had real tunnel vibes. And I thought maybe there'd be some cool shit down there, but I was only down there for like, two minutes 'cause I turned a corner and something moved."
"Oh?" Bevan asks, still paying more attention to his book. "What manner of thing?"
"I don't know!" Steals says heatedly. "Something big! And it was… like, a weird shape! I didn't get a good look at it. The lights were out in the hallway and it was dark. I saw something move and flipped the fuck out because I thought you summoned some kind of weird magic monster down there!"
Bevan hums. "Alas, no; perhaps some other day."
"What? No, Bevan –"
"Here we are!" Bevan interrupts her, throwing open the door in front of them. Steals peeks around his arm and looks down the long staircase trepidatiously. The bare lightbulbs hanging overhead are all flickering. Earlier, when she first found it, she thought that made it kind of cool and mysterious. Now, it seems sinister.
"You go first," she says, giving Bevan a shove. He doesn't move, but he does hum and tuck his book back under his cape.
"Yes, very well," he says. "You keep a lookout behind us, Miss Chark."
The idea that something might sneak up behind them is not a comforting one, and Steals sticks close to Bevan on the way down.
"You gotta know some, like, banishing spells or whatever, right, Bevan?" she asks, trying to sound casual and not at all scared out of her mind.
"Naturally," Bevan says with a sniff.
Steals's heart picks up. "Oh! Great. Awesome."
"But of course, I'll need to ascertain the nature of the beast first in order to choose the proper invocation," Bevan adds.
Steals's heart sinks again. "Oh. Great. Awesome."
They reach the bottom of the stairs. The hallways are a muted, dark green, lit by more flickering, bare bulbs. Shadows gather in the corners. Steals resists the urge to grab hold of Bevan's cape.
"Hi!"
Steals shrieks and dives around Bevan for cover. When they aren't immediately devoured, she claps a hand on her chest to get her poor heart beating again and peeks out to see what snuck up on them.
It's some kind of small… creature, covered in gray-brown fur with a fluffy tail and large, round eyes.
"What the fuck is that," Steals breathes.
"I'm Pudge!" the creature says, holding out one stubby paw. "Who are you?"
Bevan laughs, a loud, bellowing sound that echoes down the dark hallway. "Miss Chark! Is this your monster? This is Pudge Nakamoto!"
"This is what?" Steals demands, staring back and forth between the creature and Bevan. "What the fuck is a Pudge Nakamoto?"
"I'm a blaseball player!" Pudge says, hopping up on its toes. "For the Philly Pies!"
"What?!" Steals's jaw drops. "You're on the team? But – but – why didn't you fall into the locker room?! Y'know, instead of scaring the living crap out of me by hiding in the basement?!"
"Oh, that's because I didn't fall," Pudge says blithely. "I walked out! And before the black hole, I was in Philly! So I just came back. I got a little lost, though. I don't think we're supposed to be down here. Do you guys have any food?"
Steals just keeps staring, but Bevan produces a granola bar from his cape and offers it out. Pudge snatches it up and starts chewing on it, wrapper and all.
"Well, I would declare this one mystery solved," Bevan says, satisfied. "I say we return to the overworld with our new companion."
"Right," Steals says faintly. "Sure."
She watches Pudge toddle over to the stairs and start climbing them, one hop at a time. "Tom wasn't kidding," she mumbles to herself. Blaseball players really are weird. Still; compared to what she thought was down here (namely, some kind of person-devouring monster), Pudge is a relief. An extremely weird, kind of off-putting relief, but.
Except… Steals pauses with one foot on the lowest step. She can't help but feeling like she's being watched. Pudge and Bevan are merrily chatting as they ascend the stairs, seemingly oblivious. She looks both ways down the hallway, but doesn't see anything.
You're imagining things, she chides herself. Stop freaking yourself out.
She turns back, resolved to just leave, and suddenly freezes. "Um, Bevan?" she calls out. "Do you hear music?" There's no response, and she calls, louder, "Bevan?!" But a look up the staircase reveals neither Bevan nor Pudge; they must have already gotten to the top and left.
The music skates along the edges of her hearing, and it sets Steals's teeth on edge. It's not a song she recognizes, but for some reason it sets her heart racing again. And there's something strange about it… almost like she's not hearing it with her ears, but it's being projected into her mind.
She looks back over her shoulder one more time, and freezes in place.
At the far end of the hallway, mostly in shadow, is a… thing. From the neck down, it looks like a man in a Pies uniform, albeit with no arms; and where its head should be, is instead a massive pie in a pie tin. Enormous, glossy eyes hang in the air in front of it.
PIE OR DIE?
The thought slams into her mind like an assault, and Steals clamps a hand over her mouth so she doesn't scream.
The creature edges closer, slipping slightly more out of the shadows.
STEALS CHARK. PIE OR DIE?
With her heart in her throat, Steals drops her hand and chokes out, "P-P-Pie?", desperate to try anything to stop it from coming closer.
The thing stops. It nods once, its pupils bobbing freely in its eyes in a way that would be comical if she wasn't scared out of her absolute mind right now. Slowly, torturously slowly, it recedes back into the shadows, and then is gone.
All at once, Steals can move again. She whirls around and races up the stairs in blind terror, the sound of her blood rushing and frantic panting loud in her ears. She bursts through the door and slams it shut behind her, collapsing to the ground in a huddle and desperately trying to breathe.
Bevan, Pudge, and now Tom are standing in the hallway talking, and they all stop and turn to look at her.
"You okay, kid?" Tom asks, crouching down to her level.
Steals nods. Then shakes her head. "There – there was – I saw –" she stammers through shallow, gasping breaths, trying to get her racing thoughts in order. Tom reaches out and squeezes her knee, and she forces herself to take a long, deep breath.
"There was this – thing," she finally says. "It was like – a person, but it had a pie head, and it could talk in my brain –"
"Oh!" Pudge interrupts, grinning. "You've met the Philling."
"The what?" Steals wheezes.
Tom snaps his fingers. "Oh, yeah! The Philling. Philly Pies mascot. Yeah, I've never seen a universe without them."
Steals stares at him, then at Pudge, then at Bevan for good measure, waiting for one of them to crack and admit their prank. None of them do.
Steals drops her head back against the door with a thunk. "This team is so. Weird."
Tom pats her knee sympathetically. "Welcome to Philly."
#blaseball#steals chark#bevan wise#pudge nakamoto#thomas marsh#my fic#this is VERY SILLY but listen. i said i was gonna write a fic abt the philling. so here it is.

January 2022 Update
✨Hi, everyone! ✨
Luckily, this past month has been kinder to me, though it's still been tumultuous overall. I've been able to get more done, but I've had to re-prioritize some of my tasks. This update may seem sparse, but that's mainly because there's not much to elaborate on (proofreading is a big task! But it's also too mundane to really write about, lol). Current status stands at:
✍🏼 Writing
Logan's path - 6/6 chapters written and coded
First chapter has been revised! (next is proofreading )Additional editing in further chapters
Added around 1,000-1,500 words overall
Adrian's path - 6/6 chapters written and coded
First chapter has been proofread!
Ezra's path - 4/6 chapters written and chapter five has a detailed outline
First chapter has been proofread!
Completed some general/light proofreading and revising overall.
Officially crossed the 150,000 word count line!
I'm thinking the entire game (base game + bonus stories) will be around 180,000, but we'll see.
🎨 Art
Created a general itch page banner and changed some of my logo text for readability
Finalized images for credit sequences (In the final game, you'll get different credit sequences depending on if you get the neutral/bad/good endings for each route.)
Drew some promotional images
Began CG work!!!!! :D (Sneak peek below)
💻 Coding

Grand Theft, N.Y.E. [coming December 31, 2019]
PREORDER
Blurb:
Cleo Wright is just a happy scammer on a mission to rob a rich man before his ex-wife or the federal government seize all of his money and possessions. She's not expecting to meet another rich man who makes her want to use her nimble fingers for other, not thieving, things. But Robert Shimizu is just that man. The two share a night of fast cars, expensive champagne and the best sex of her life. But Cleo is who she is and when Robert wakes up the next morning, she's long gone... with his car and a few other very expensive possessions. It takes him months to track down the woman who stole his favorite watch and his heart, but when he does, there's fireworks.
Keep reading for SNEAK PEEK
This exclusive Kentucky Derby afterparty thrown by a luxury diamond company was just the kind of decadent, ridiculous rich white people event Cleo loved, because she could turn her empathy chip all the way off. No need to feel bad about what she was about to do. Why bother feeling sorry for these people whose eyes were glued to her — even the drunk ones — judging? She had a job to do and she was more than dressed for the occasion.
She hadn’t known when she saw this specific dress in Saks when she’d need it, but she was happy to have it on deck for this occasion. There was something so wonderful about walking through this party in a dress that was barely a suggestion and definitely an advertisement. It might even, technically, be lingerie since it was made up of equal parts see-through lace and slinky jersey that just barely covered her good bits — as it stopped just below the curve of her ass — but gave a clear indication of everything underneath as she moved.
A different person in the same situation might have felt the need to blend in, but not Cleo.
It wasn’t that she couldn’t blend in if the job called for it, but her specialty was understanding how to get the crowd to focus on her. If a moment called for all eyes on the decoy, she was the woman for the job. Cleo talents included grabbing the room by the balls and not letting it go until she and her crew had done what needed to be done. And there were few people of any gender who could do that better than her.
So, she walked straight through the middle of the room — her head swiveling left and right — looking down her broad nose at everyone around her in their most expensive and boring dresses, high-end shoes and gaudy jewelry. She smiled and smirked and sometimes even winked at men who were ogling her too hard, just for the fun of pissing off their wives. She reveled in her own audacity, which only made the other people at the party angrier. Her ego soaked up all that annoyance like water. This was why she was one of the best – if not THEE best – at this job. This wasn’t a job for Cleo, it was her calling.
“Champagne, ma’am?” a waiter asked her.
She smiled and plucked a flute from the tray in his hand. She didn’t need to flip that tray to know that it would be engraved with the Tiffany’s symbol and she didn’t need to see the tag on the waiter’s uniform to know it was Gucci; it was her job to know. Besides, like most of these lavish parties for the disgustingly wealthy, the name brands were everywhere, right on down to the $15,000 fur rug she was stepping on with her $45 Perspex heels.
Cleo brought the glass to her lips and took a small sip. It would be the only indulgence she’d allow herself tonight since she never mixed liquor with work. As she savored the flavor of the best champagne money could buy, she turned in a full circle, ostensibly toying with the room as they watched her, wondering over if she belonged here. But really she was making sure that each piece of art her team had marked for removal was present and accounted for.
She winked at an older woman and her younger wife who looked like they wanted to do more than stare, before she turned and continued walking toward her mark.
She found him sitting at a table full of old, drunk, lecherous men playing poker in a raised den next to the bar. He technically owned the house they were partying in, but she and her team knew that he was no more than three months from losing it all. The FEC was investigating him for insider trading, his soon-to-be ex-wife had a team of private investigators looking for money she was certain he was hiding in the Bahamas, and unless he got an influx of cash soon, the bank would be foreclosing on this house and then he would truly be ruined.
He was the best kind of target, because his financial situation was so precarious. In less than twelve hours, she and her team would have gotten what they came for and any goof cop or insurance investigator would have to seriously consider if the victim hadn’t orchestrated the entire thing. By the time anyone thought to look for a crew, Cleo would be long gone. And who would think that anything was going on with the tall, nearly naked Black woman or the wait staff.
If she focused and kept her eye on the prize — the balding man with a fat cigar hanging from his lips — this job would keep her and her crew set for the rest of the year.
And focus was easy for Cleo. It was why she slowed down as she ascended the stairs. She wanted to feel every second of this moment, to see when he saw her, when his mouth went slack and his lit cigar drooped and his eyes widened. She wanted to give Francis Pugh III enough time to drink in every curve of her body, to imagine running his sweaty hands over them, to fantasize about her body over him in bed. She wanted Frank and everyone at the table to wonder who she was and want her hanging off their arm for the rest of the night, because a rich man who wanted something he felt entitled to was the best kind of idiot to rob.
When she was by his side, he practically pushed the woman perched on the arm of his chair to the ground.
“Hey,” the woman whined.
Now in her normal life, Cleo would have offered to help the girl slash this man’s tires, but she was an actress — of a sort — so she didn’t even let her eyes fall on the other woman. She simply moved past her and settled onto the side of Frank’s chair, her hip resting against his shoulder.
“What do you say, sweetheart?” he asked, showing her his hand.
Cleo glanced at his cards.
He was going to lose no matter what, probably. She could have told him to fold, but in her experience, men like him didn’t want advice from women, in fact they often hated a woman with opinions. And her job wasn’t to give her marks her true self; she had to give them what they wanted, so they’d let their guards down.
So she leaned into his side, pressed her left breast into his shoulder and giggled. She didn’t even need to speak; in fact, she knew some men who would have preferred that she didn’t. And apparently Frank was one of those men.
He smiled at her cleavage, shifted in his seat — probably to hide his erection — and then threw a few cards on the table. She looked at his hand. Those weren’t the cards she might have discarded, but whatever, she didn’t care if he won or lost money in the short term, since he was about to lose it all in just a few hours.
“Final bets,” the dealer called.
She looked around the table, not because she cared, but because she was always on the lookout for more work. All of the men sitting at the table looked like Frank, honestly; maybe a little older or younger, but definitely rich, gaudy, and bleary-eyed from alcohol. Easy targets.
But one man stood out from the rest. He as sitting directly across from her. He was also the only person not trying to angle his head so that he could look up her dress. His eyes were darting from the cards in his hand to the pot of chips on the table to the crease of her thighs, so it wasn’t like he was ignoring her - and she would have been offended if he was - but there was something intriguing about a man so in control of himself that she couldn’t fully distract him.
She didn’t like it, but she did find it interesting.
The tall Asian man’s long hair fell over his shoulders and the faint shadow of his beard caught her eye. But it was his long, thick fingers that made Cleo do something she never did while she was working; she momentarily lost focus.
One minute she was casing the poker table, the next minute she was running her teeth along her bottom lip, imagining that man’s fingers playing with the strip of her thong between her ass cheek.
The first thing she usually did when meeting a new man, was to check all his jewelry and then look for the bulge of his wallet. But that wasn’t the bulge Cleo was thinking about just now and it shocked the hell out of her.

Could we have another sneak peek plz
hell yes baby!!! here’s a new sneaky peaky into part one!!! love xx
He smiled at you before shaking his head. “I’m a terrible dancer.”
You swallowed the gulp in your throat, you felt wrong for asking him to dance now that he refused. You didn’t want to insist; you just felt your confidence decrease drastically. You took a look around you, searching for something to keep the conversation alive, you didn’t want him to leave now.
You stammered, “Well, it’s okay. I just… I mean… It’s cool. Do you… come here often?”
He grinned and took another sip of his Bloody Mary, his glass slowly emptying while yours was still half full. Maybe you should drink it in one go and you’d feel better.
“I came here a few times with some friends but tonight I felt like coming alone.”
You wondered what would bring him alone in a bar, was he as desperate as you to meet somebody to sweep him off his feet? Was he just depressed? Was he just bored? Was he sad? Was he lonely? So many questions you were dying to ask him but couldn’t get yourself to because you didn’t want to overstep his privacy.
It was kinda hard tip-toeing around the conversation because you were overthinking his status. If he was any stranger you would’ve asked but there was this weird line between the two of you where you knew he was on the lookout and he wouldn’t share personal informations with you. He had to be careful and you couldn’t blame him for that.
“Why did you felt like coming alone tonight?”
Of course your curiosity was stronger than all your principles. So fuck personal space?
“Well…” It seemed he didn’t expect this question because he didn’t have an answer.
“I guess… Sometimes going out alone feels good too?”
You shrugged, remembering, that well you were alone tonight and as you previously told him, you were alone most nights.
“I won’t argue with that.”
You two shared a chuckle before you finally took another sip of your drink, relaxing you and making you feel easier. You asked him about the other nights he spends alone. Was there many? He told you about every time he felt like the world left a bitter taste on his tongue and that being alone or with family was necessary to take a break.
He was so much more open than you thought he’d be. You still didn’t know anything about him but every detail he sprinkled in his conversation were little treasures to you.
You talked about your favorite books and asked him for some music recommendations. He told you about his creative process and how writing helped him coping with communication issues; to which you responded that it did the same for you. Sparking the conversation over the fact that you liked to write too.
He asked you if you were living in LA and if you liked it here. You asked him about what it was like living in the UK. If he felt sad losing slightly his british accent. If he was into gardening, if he liked Pride and Prejudice, if he ever watched a show for 15 hours in a row, if he was into video games, if he used MySpace in 2007? And all his answers were as valuable to you as it would be from a very dear friend.
He asked about you too; how you liked your eggs, if you ever got into a bar fight, if you were a Lord Of The Rings fan or more Harry Potter like, if you ever danced in the rain, if you liked Art and what was your favorite genre of literature, if you could stay in apnea for more than one minute, what was your favorite instrument, if you could play the kazoo? All questions you delightly answered to, feeling like the two of you were getting along so well.
You stayed seated at the bar; talking and laughing for hours. Actually until the barman asked you to leave because the bar was closing. The clock was reaching three o'clock and you and Harry didn’t finish your conversation yet.
“Mind if I give you a ride?”

Title: Breathe Into Me
Author: Bluestarpaladin
Artist: imperfectartist723
Post Date: April 23, 2019
Sneak Peek!
His eyesight was becoming dark, the edges of his vision darkening and his body weakening. Who knew the last thing he’d see would be the surface below the sea, sparkling while sunlight reflected against it. It was beautiful, and for a moment, he didn’t mind it if this was the way he died. He already accepted death at this point, feeling his conscious drift away quickly now. Then, however, he saw the peaceful image in front him become disturbed by ripples in the water, a dark figure swimming towards him quickly. Keith didn’t move, couldn’t do anything but watch as the person neared. He felt something pull him back up towards the surface, but at this point he was far too gone. He wasn’t even aware of it when they surfaced, warm rays of sunlight casting down it’s light upon his deathly pale skin. There was nothing but darkness for Keith, until at one point he was pulled into the light again, this time brighter than before. He gasped loudly, coughing while trying to clear his lungs of the water that was still inside. There was sand underneath him now, as warm as the sun itself. “How are you feeling?” When he was aware enough to register the voice Keith looked to his side, spotting a silhouette of a person who was kneeling down beside him, just in front of the sun. He covered his eyes from the blinding rays, looking away while coughing some more. “It’s okay, you’re safe now.” He felt a hand on his back, and when the figure moved, Keith allowed himself to look up again. What he saw may or may not have been a sacred image that made Keith freeze in all his entirety. The most beautiful creature he’d ever laid his eyes upon was looking down at him in concern, eyes bluer than the ocean itself were shining brightly within the sun. Keith forgot to breathe for a second, his own orbs unmoving from the deity like being. He felt his heart fasten in pace but at this point he didn’t know if it was because of his near death experience or because of the person kneeling in front of him. “Are you okay? Feeling better now?” An angelic voice asked, and at this point Keith began to question if he really died or not. This sure looked more like heaven then anything else.
He was so out of himself that he couldn’t even utter a single word, his mouth hanging open like that of a gasping fish. This definitely had to be heaven, and if it was, then this was his angel. Yeah, that must be it.

Although it’s April 1st as I write this, we’re not joking around about The Contagion Chronicle‘s Kickstarter. (As for other jokes, check out the Reason To Celebrate at the end of this blog for our thoughts on this here Fool’s Day).
As Matthew Dawkins, developer of the project and the in-famous Gentleman Gamer, said in our Monday Meeting today, he’s thrilled and proud of the response The Contagion Chronicle is getting, and I think he’s speaking for all of us.
I know it sounds strange after having done something like 35 Kickstarters, but I’m always uncertain that a project will fund – at least until the pledges start coming in at a pace I can start to judge.
So when you have an unusual project that is about all of the Chronicles of Darkness gamelines (even ones not out yet), but isn’t solely about any of them, it’s hard to guess which way folks will react.
Book of Oblivion art by Drew Tucker
What we’re seeing with this Contagion Chronicle Kickstarter is that a lot of folks are cautious. The sections of the text are coming out through the entirety of the KS, and so nobody has the full picture in their heads yet as to the whole project – well, except Matthew, I guess. So that’s a reason to be a bit cautious.
Another reason is that some of our audience aren’t sure that the approach we decided to go with is the way they want a crossover project to deliver the info they are looking for.
As I’ve mentioned in the last two MMN blogs, we have gone with the Chronicle format of providing a whole setting that holds together as a demonstration of how a total CofD crossover could work, and is there for folks to pick and choose from as they “look under the hood” at what Matthew and his awesome writing team have accomplished.
Which leads to some prospective backers holding off or just backing for the PDF, or whatever, as they see exactly what kind of “crunch” is getting delivered.
Now what is cool is that we’re seeing a lot of conversations about these aspects of the text as it is being delivered, and how this is a month-long process that’s gonna give folks, the hesitant and early adopters alike, a chance to read through everything and modify their pledges as they see fit.
Of course, we’d prefer that folks like what they see so much that they up their pledges to at least the physical book level – remember: the more physical books pledged for, the more we print for the backers and thus, the more we print additional for stores to sell.
But, if the unfortunate occurs and folks minimize or drop their pledges..that’s OK too! Part of releasing the full text is the ongoing conversations that develop when we release the text over the course of the KS (as opposed to one big file), but the other part is that we want folks to have the info so that they can pledge in a way that makes them glad that they did.
Fewer pledged books being printed might mean fewer available to go into stores, but DTRPG is always there so the project will definitely be available in PDF and PoD versions, at least.
The Realm art by Gong Studios
So please, come check out the Contagion Chronicle KS! Whatever amount you pledge for, you’ll be able to read the text as it is delivered and judge for yourself. Over 1,000 backers are already able to, and there’s a lot of great commentary up already.
Another thing came up in the meeting today, which was telling the whole crew why we held off on putting the Exalted 3rd‘s Dragon-Blooded PDF and PoDs up for sale last Wednesday.
(For those of you disappointed when we did that, my sincere apologies. As you’ll see, there was a reason).
We discovered early last week that a section of the book had dropped its text formatting, so that section did not have a header and had stacked info instead of the format the rest of the sections were in.
Was it something that would have made the book unusable? No, but it was an error that happened at the last stage of the process that slipped through and we knew about it before releasing the final PDF and the PoD versions.
I thought it better to fix it, and to delay putting things on sale (and making them available to backers), than to leave an error we knew was in there. There are plenty of errors that we frustratingly just can’t fix after a certain stage – a printed book is printed that way forever, after all – but this was not one of those.
Geist 2e art by Luis Sanz
Hopefully, not a call that will be necessary to make very often.
While nobody is perfect, nor any piece of art, as Bernie Harmon used to say, we do try and give our community as tight a final project as possible. It doesn’t always work, but we keep trying anyway. That way you know that we’re looking out for you, as you travel to our:

Ex3 Dragon Blooded – PDF and PoD versions on sale Wednesday on DTRPG. Backer PoD coupons before that and the Deluxe files are going to press. No seriously, it’s happening this week!
TODAY’S REASON TO CELEBRATE:
We’re being bought by a fundamentalist church! We’re combining Scion and the Trinity Continuum! DUDES OF LEGEND! We have Paths of Storytelling Vampire you can follow but not achieve the good ending! We’re a happy, happy, Path! SeXXXalted! Frost Giant Butt Warriors! Bax Masterson! Shadows Over Iceland! We didn’t do an April 1st thing this year, as we just didn’t want to blind-side anybody considering the tumultuous last couple years…but let’s hear it for the “wacky” gags from years past!
