Jordan Nobbs x Reader
Meal for One
In a world of your own staring at the laundry detergent in the cleaning aisle of Tesco you were trying to work out which product was the best value for money. Your mundane weekend activity had numbed your brain not realising how long you’d been staring at the prices and day dreaming that you were somewhere sunny. That was until someone brushed past you to get what they wanted and dragged you back down to earth. Exhausted from the decision, you grabbed whatever looked good and shoved it into your trolley then moved robotically to the freezer aisle - meals for one, they sure know how to make a girl feel good about herself!
*Attention shoppers, we are closing in 10 minutes, please make your way to the checkouts* - came over the tannoy and filled your bones with dread. You barely had five items off your long shopping list in the trolley and now you had to leave. Rushing around to grab the essentials then getting into the queue, eyes barely open and longing to be back on your sofa. Loading your shopping onto the conveyor belt you hurried to place the next person slide out for whoever was behind you. “Thanks, nice shirt by the way” the female voice said. “Thaaanks” your word dragged out as you glanced down to see what you’d thrown on to leave the house today, seeing it was your Aston Villa shirt you decided to strike up a conversation, “you a villains fan too?” you said turning around so your back wasn’t facing them. “Kinda” the woman said as she delved into the bottom of her trolley, jealous of how much shopping she had compared to your ready meals and fabric softener. As she turned back to place her items behind yours “f-fuck me!” you said slightly too loud as people around you glanced in your direction. A one sided smile lit up her face for a second as the realisation hit. “You’re Jordan! As in the-name-on-my-back Nobbs?” you stumbled over your words while turning around to point at your back. It all makes sense now why she said your shirt was nice. “You’ve got good taste!” she laughed, “maybe not in meals though, they look sad” she screwed up her face looking at your frozen box meals. “Oh, yeah I lead a very busy life” trying to play it cool but the facade betrayed you. “Is that right?” she smirked. “No that’s a lie, I can’t cook to save my life” your head bowed, feeling incredibly small as she loaded the belt with actual ingredients rather than something you can shove in a freezer. “Me neither, but I’m trying to learn” the blonde seemed excited about her current venture. “Well yours looks like it’s going to better than mine” you chuckled softly with embarrassment. “I can cook enough for two if you fancy? I need a trial taster”. Your eyebrows furrowed trying to work out if she was serious and said you better go home to put your groceries away, you couldn’t have your meals defrosting.
“Eh-hem” the interruption came from the cashier who just wanted to go home and didn’t have time to listen to you chat any longer. Hurriedly packing your bags so you could pay and move along, as you tapped your phone on the card reader Jordan passed you her number “come as you are” she smiled “see you in about an hour?” Looking at the piece of paper in disbelief you nodded and smiled cautiously as you made your way to the car.
“Well this is awkward!” the same voice called from behind as you loaded your car boot. “Nothing like saying bye to someone then walking in the same direction!” Of course she’d parked next to you, seeing your beat up, run down car that was in desperate need of a wash next to her pristine BMW. Knowing you were going to have to think of something quickly to prolong getting in your car, it was a state inside and out and definitely not going to help your case of convincing her you’re not always a slob, things had just gotten away from your lately.
At home you were still unsure about what actually happened in Tesco, was she being serious, is this really Jordan Nobb’s number? Typing it into your phone, watching your thumbs refuse to move and when they did it was to delete what you’d already written. This went on for twenty minutes - writing, deleting, rewriting, deleting until you settled for a simple “hi 😊” before immediately panicking and sending another without totally thinking it through “it’s sad meal girl btw 😂”. Waiting impatiently for a reply you’d convinced yourself she’d given you a fake number. Fetching one of your meals out the freezer and setting the microwave timer then reaching for the cheap bottle of wine in your fridge.
Your phone pinged before the microwave did, rushing to pick it up to see she’d sent a pin of her address. Switching the microwave off and grabbing the bottle of wine you quickly changed your top, pulled on a coat and headed out the front door, opting to walk rather than take your rubbish filled car. Surprised she lived only a short walk away you wondered how you’d never spotted her in your town before.
“Hey, can I take your coat?” Jordan said as soon as she opened the door, nodding and removing it from your shoulders. “Something smells amazing, do you need any help?” you asked, following her towards the kitchen. Glancing at the menu on her phone she came up with something for you to do. “Err, you could chop the veggies for me, how are you with onions?” You chuckled to yourself, excited to finally try the hack you saw on tiktok once and asked for a saucepan lid, tucking it into your hood. Jordan couldn’t contain her laughter when she spotted what you were doing but congratulated you on the initiative.
“I bought wine, it’s pretty cheap though” you said behind your glass mask meaning Jordan didn’t hear and you had to repeat yourself. “We can just mix it with lemonade it’ll make it taste better” she said getting two glasses out of the cupboard.
Helping you put your coat on she opened the door to see your car wasn’t on the driveway. It was 2am by the time you two had stopped talking; she refused to let you walk home alone and demanded she drive you. Pulling up outside your flat you said your goodbyes, “we should do this again some time, you have my number now” Jordan smiled. You said thank you for the lovely yet surprising evening and made your way to your door. Waiting for you to be safely inside your house, you waved goodbye as you watched her drive away. This had been one of the best days you’d had in a very long time, you were in desperate need of something magical to happen and who knew it would come in the form of Jordan.

Borgward Isabella Coupé
Has any automaker gone from oblivion to success and back again as quickly as Borgward? Mention the name today, and you're likely to get blank stares, or questions along the lines of "Borgward? Who made those?" It's hard to imagine any European posing that sort of question in 1955, when Borgward had risen from the post-war rubble to outsell all other German automakers but Volkswagen, or 1958, when the Bremen firm very nearly nipped Porsche for the German sports-car championship. And yet, by 1962, the company was gone, the victim of a tragic and avoidable series of circumstances.
The Isabella was a bull's-eye in the mid-priced sedan market segment. Volkswagens were less expensive, but smaller and less powerful. Mercedes-Benz's 180 sedan had the sophistication of an overhead cam, but no greater top speed, and cost 30 percent more than the Isabella's list price of 7,265 Deutsche Marks. Opel's Olympia Rekord couldn't touch its top speed, or its all-coil-sprung suspension; and BMW had nothing between the fantastically expensive "Baroque Angel" 501 and the Isetta-based 600 microcar. On top of it all, the press loved the car. By the end of 1954, more than 10,000 Isabellas had rolled out the factory gates.
The Isabella had thoroughly up-to-date underpinnings, with a coil spring at each corner, swing axles in the rear and A-arms up front. The engine, a pushrod four designed by Karl Ludwig Brandt, wrung 75hp from its 1,493cc, with its relatively high 8.2:1 compression ratio and good breathing. The intake manifold was entirely enclosed atop the engine, making for a tidy design that could have been mistaken for an OHC. So sound was the engine that, developed for racing, it powered Cooper-Borgwards to many Formula 2 victories in the Fifties. The Borgward RS, or Rennsport, became Porsche's nemesis in the hands of drivers like Stirling Moss, Jo Bonnier and Hans Herrmann.
If the Isabella had a flaw, it was that its development had been limited, and early cars suffered from weak engine bearings and front-end components. Competitors started a whispering campaign about "die Traumfrau mit der schmutzigen Unterwäsche," or "the dream girl with the dirty underwear," but Borgward, unfazed, worked with its suppliers to iron out the bugs, and no real harm was done to the model's reputation.
Just as with the Hansa 1500, new models were quickly spun off the Isabella. In 1955, Borgward launched convertible and station wagon versions, as well as a hot TS ("Touring Sport") model with a two-barrel carburetor that could top 90 MPH, leaving Porsche 1300s behind. As the decade wore on, new designs from its competitors and a softening economic situation led to declining sales, prompting Carl F. W. to add the most glamorous model yet to the Isabella lineup: the Coupé.

Buying a car is bullshit
I am very seriously trying to buy a new (to me) car.
I need a bigger car to fit crates in since that will allow me to transport more dogs for boarding. I have opted to go the used route for a number of reasons.
After much research, input from some super helpful dogblr folks as well as coworkers, and some dragging my feet - I'm ready. I'm looking to buy a 2018 Toyota RAV4 XLE.
I found one being sold at a fair price given the low mileage and went to see it last Saturday. It was a trade in at a BMW dealership. When they brought it out I was a little taken back because it's pretty dinged up. Not to the point of hindering functionally but there are dents and scrapes on every panel and fixing it would $1000 in body work easily, if not more.
Honestly, I don't give a shit about cosmetics. This car is for hauling dogs around. But it would be silly to pretend it doesn't change the value of the car.
I noticed that the front tires were different from the rear tires and asked about it. Sales dude tells me they replaced the front ones because the originals were dry rotted. I asked if the mechanic measured the new vs the old because AWD can be sensitive and different widths can fuck it up. Sales dude tells yes, it's all on paper. Cool.
I take it for a test drive and notice the brakes are a little rough. I ask if the brake pads were inspected to see how worn they are. Sales dude assures me yes, the car passed inspection and they're fine. Am told, again, it's all on paper.
Once we're back at the dealership I ask him to please get me the info on the tires and brakes cause I'm ready to make a deal and buy the car. Sales dude asks for my price and I tell him my offer is contingent on the information so please get it. Guy comes back with a manager and oops, they don't actually have that info.
Which honestly really pissed me off. You lied to my face and what? Didn't think you'd get caught not having the very specific information I'm asking for? I don't know why I expected slightly less car sales bullshit from a higher end dealership but the jokes on me.
I leave with the agreement that on Monday (today) they'll have the mechanic get the info and call me promptly at X time. An hour and a half later, I ended up leaving them a voicemail.
Finally got on the phone with them, tires are fine but the brake pads are just this side of passing and I'll need to change them fairly quickly. Fine. Given the body work and brakes, not to mention all the fluid changes I'll need to do, I put in my offer - a little less than $1000 off listed price. This puts the car at just my side of a good deal rather than fair, but honestly not by much.
They eventually accept my offer. Awesome. I am ready to pay over the phone. No. They won't take the payment over the phone or even a deposit. I have to come buy it in person.
In an ideal world, I'd go Thursday morning and get it done before work since that's my late day. But I'm concerned about the time wasting tactics dealerships use to try to get people to "upgrade" packages. I am trialing Friday and Saturday.
That leaves my only actual day with time to spare next Monday. During the in between they will not hold the car for me or pull it from their listings.
It so fucking frustrating that a high end, fancy ass BMW dealership is giving me the run around for a busted up six year old Toyota that I am willing to pay for right now!
So, fingers crossed it's still there next week and I'm able to buy it. If not, oh well I guess. There's really not anything else I can do at this point. It's just annoying because if they had the information they said they did I'd have bought the car right then.
Anyway, let this be your reminder to not take car sales folks word for anything and make them show you on paper. They will lie right to your face and blame you for holding up the sale.

Expense, recast rant, grown-ass people behaving badly
‘Legit dolls are too expensive.’ I call BS, there are plenty of nice lower price dolls that everyone welcomes within this hobby. Most people also have a lot of respect and admiration for hobby skills and are happy to see cute dolls regardless of the cost of the base doll. Yes, it may take you a long damn time to save for a more expensive type or to have the collection of multiple dolls that you may crave but you can either wait and save or get a less expensive starter doll in the meantime and both are ok. Everyone plays at their level in life. I bought a house and a car that are reasonable for my income, I don’t make myself miserable always chasing something more because that’s a never-ending battle, there’s always something better, something more. I budget my extra money in a way that makes sense for my lifestyle, neither over-spending nor being a miser. I have established a reasonable savings and investment plan because I know unplanned expenses can be devastating and because it’s very satisfying to invest and watch my money earn more money. But all of that is just normal adulting stuff so my big point here is that it’s questionable that anyone but a younger teen wouldn’t have learned all of this too and behave accordingly - buying the legit dolls that are within their means also. So that’s why I’m really surprised to see grown-ass people acting crazy over insisting that they are entitled to these bootleg dolls and that others are big meanies for saying ‘Hey, don’t post those here, don’t bring those in - they aren’t part of our hobby.’ Do they also think they can bring their fake Gucci bag to the luxury handbag forum, their rowboat to the yacht club and their KIA to the BMW road trip meets? Usually not, they know better, right?.
Many people are always going to have more dolls, more expensive or rare dolls, more traveling time and money to attend doll events and meets, maybe more stuff for their dolls, possibly more room and a better camera too, the list goes on. But if they are buying within their budget, then that’s the right level of spending for them. Mine is going to be different, maybe a lot more than some people but probably always far less than others so comparisons aren't really even useful. If something doesn’t fit my budget or my life, I need to work around it. Not try to unfairly game the system (buying cheap recasts so my collection is bigger and seems better) or take unethical shortcuts (cheating doll artists out of their fair earnings because I want their thing but won’t actually pay them for it so I go pay for a cheap stolen copy). That’s just bad and wrong thinking.
And yet here we are, still dealing with having to push back on people who buy recast dolls after all this time. It hasn’t blown over or gotten any better. The hobby at large needs to take a better ‘no bootlegs’ stance and actually condemn this behavior. There’s no real neutral, the jury is in, recasts are a blight on the hobby, they make legit prices go up, drive hobby artists out of business or into a mode of releasing in a more limited and controllable way. The issue itself creates division among the members so if you tolerate them, if you were one who thought you could remain neutral, you see how they have now bloomed up like weeds into a multi-million dollar business for just one recast company, right? That overshadows almost all of the legit companies but maybe Volks and probably tops over the income of all the solo western bjd artists combined. This will only become worse if we continue to tolerate the recasts, as the western economy heads into recession, as doll artists continue to quit, restrict their production, raise their prices.
It’s also a giant social pain in the ass. Friend gets a recast? Either the friendship is now fucked if you stand your ground and actively uphold your pro-artist only values or now you are called on to compromise those values, become recast neutral and to not criticize their doll, to be tolerant of their bootleg choice, and that’s both in your friendship and also within your hobby space. And of course they will talk about it because you are doll friends, right? So now a recast shares time and takes up space within your shared hobby. And since it’s now fine to have one, your friend will probably collect more (you notice they rarely stop at one, right?) and now the friend may attract another friend or 2 who may also have a shared recast sculpt, you get the picture. But most people are ‘too nice to say no’, and so that’s how they end up sliding down into a group full of recast owners if they don’t take a real pro-artist stand. Even worse if you are an artist yourself and you keep silent, if you don’t speak up and advocate for your fellow artists. We’ve even seen other artists buying recasts now. What level of diseased thinking is that? Bad enough to have these little bands of thieves lurking in their bootleg groups but when another artist joins in, that’s some next level ish.
Ok, I’m done. If you are legit-only, what’s your response to your doll friend buying a recast. Has it happened to you?

What Is The Worst Car Brand?
Tumblr media
Selecting a reliable vehicle can be a tricky journey, but knowing what the worst car brand is can help a lot. There’s only so much you can learn from reading the lists of best models. Sometimes it’s better to filter out those manufacturers that simply aren’t worth your money and energy.
Knowing the reputation of a brand is essential if you want to avoid the title of the “worst drivers by car brand”. None of us want to get featured in those and, trust me, you might still end up there even if you’re the best driver the earth has ever seen.
Today we’ll see which brands fail to deliver the performance we expected and what you should know to select a reliable model.
WHAT IS THE WORST CAR BRAND PRODUCED IN JAPAN?
4 worst releases from Japanese manufacturers
It’s really hard to name the worst car brand ever when it comes to the Japanese market. Their vehicles usually rank high on consumer reports, making it difficult to bash Japanese manufacturers. However, we can still talk about certain brands that have released poorly performing cars.
2019 Infiniti QX30
Infiniti vehicles are abundant on the lists of worst vehicles. For some reason, their newer releases fail to meet our expectations. Their QX30 leaves a lot to be desired – it’s not as good as its cheaper competitors. Plus, it doesn’t offer anything new – you’d probably get the same deal if you went for an older model.
2019 Nissan Sentra
2019 Nissan Sentra is quite overpriced, to say the least. It doesn’t have anything exciting to force us to forget about its poor performance. Driving it is a dreadful experience since the interior is quite cheap both in terms of looks and feel.
2019 Infiniti Q70
2019 Infiniti Q70 isn’t any better. Even though it’s priced and marketed as a luxury vehicle, it fails to deliver the performance and comfort we expect from a higher range. You can get far better models for less money.
2019 Mitsubishi Mirage
2019 Mitsubishi Mirage scores quite poorly on reliability scores. It’s quite affordable and fuel-efficient, yet it won’t last you long enough to appreciate those features. It doesn’t have any improvements from previous models either.
What is the worst brand of car to buy new? – I’d say Infiniti. Their newer models are a waste of money. Japanese manufacturers have a lot to offer and that’s exactly why we judge these vehicles so strictly. The bar is too high to turn a blind eye on such poor releases.
WHAT IS THE WORST CAR BRAND PRODUCED IN GERMAN?
Tumblr media
Commonly known for durability, certain German manufacturers have low reliability scores, including Volkswagen, Audi, BMW, Mercedes Benz, and Porsche. Even though these brands have some outstanding vehicles, many of their models are failing in terms of safety.
Volkswagen
I can’t say that Volkswagen is the worst car brand on earth, yet their vehicles fall short of performance. Some of their models are costly as they reveal quite a few problems. There are some advices on how to increase car mileage and reduce fuel costs. Overall, consumers aren’t that happy with VW.
Audi
Surprisingly, Audi doesn’t have high reliability scores. Some of their models are absolutely breathtaking, while others leave a lot to be desired. There are some tips and tricks that you can take into account to increase car mileage. However, such in consistency is the very reason why this brand is often listed among the worst manufacturers.
BMW
Another German brand that doesn’t meet the consumers’ expectations is BMW. Their cars are often judged because they aren’t reliable. I’m not saying that all of their models are horrible – I’m just saying that some of their vehicles don’t deliver the quality we want from a German manufacturer.
Mercedes Benz
The users of Mercedes Benz have reported quite a few problems as well. You’ll certainly have a luxury experience with their cars, yet they won’t be as durable as vehicles from Lexus or Subaru.
Porsche
Porsche is probably the worst car brand for safety. If you buy their car, you’ll likely have to face a lot of problems. The repairs will be pricey, which is why you need to think carefully before you go for their vehicle.
German cars also have high depreciation rates which is another reason why they aren’t the best investment.
While we’re talking about German cars, it’s worth noting that the worst Italian car brand is Alfa Romeo. Their vehicles tend to result in high repair costs. However, you can review some tips and tricks that help you to take good care of your car and make your car last longer.
WHAT CAR BRAND DRIVES THE WORST MOTORISTS?
The manufacturers that attract the worst drivers are plenty but the ones that stand out are the Audi, BMW, Mercedes, Range Rover, and VW. We don’t judge anyone personally, yet these cars tend to attract the most annoying drivers.
Audi
If you want to experience an uncontrollable rage, you should drive next to an Audi. They host pretentious drivers who get out of their way to show off their vehicles. They might not cause that many accidents but they surely will force you to scold them with your glance.
BMW
For some reason, BMW drivers tend to believe they rule the world. They forget all the signs and drive as if the roads were in their possession. Their driving habits will surely drive you nuts.
Mercedes Benz
Mercedes Benz cars are luxurious yet we can’t say the same about their drivers. Just because you own a Mercedes doesn’t mean you should drive like a moron. For some reason, the owners of this brand are among the most obnoxious drivers.
Range Rover
To be fair, not all of the Range Rover drivers are annoying. If you bought an off-road to drive in the city, congratulations, you’re probably one of the worst drivers. Cars have labels for a reason and an off-road doesn’t belong on busy city streets.
Volkswagen
Volkswagen drivers are annoying not because they don’t know how to drive, but because they still believe they own a BMW. If you look out the window and wonder “who drives like that”, I’m guessing you’re next to a VW. They always want to be in the first row and do their best to squeeze themselves even on the busiest streets.
HOW TO CHOOSE A RELIABLE CAR?
Tumblr media
If you want to steer away from the worst reliable car brand and instead purchase a durable vehicle, you should do your research carefully. The only way to buy a reliable car is to spend hours reading reviews and reports. You can use the following steps as a guide.
Check out reliability scores
The first thing you should do is to examine reliability scores. J.D Power and Consumer Reports release information about vehicles every year. They rate cars depending on their category and always explore dependability, safety, and performance in their research.
Read consumers’ reviews
But it’s also important to read other people’s reviews. That way, you’ll understand what problems they had and why. Their experience will help you purchase a car that will stay by your side for a long time.
Don’t get fooled by marketing
Worst drivers by car brand purchase vehicles because of amazing marketing campaigns. That’s one of the reasons why they are so annoying on the roads. If you don’t want to be among them, you should always double-check the information you see in those ads. Once again, reading reviews and consumer reports is the key.
Don’t fall for dealers’ suggestions
Certain salespeople earn their commissions based on the cars they sell. For example, they will get more if they sell BMW instead of Toyota. They might tell you that a certain vehicle has the most innovative speaker system. They might hype up the car just to crank up the value. I’m not saying that all salespeople are lying – I’m just saying that you shouldn’t trust their suggestions blindfolded.
FINAL TAKEAWAY
Even though the brands we discussed don’t have the highest reliability scores, it doesn’t mean we should refuse to buy every vehicle they release. All of them have great models that will prove their worth over time.
As you can see, it’s not difficult to label a manufacturer as the worst car brand. What’s difficult is to find a car that is worth your money. You should remember that you can find great cars among Japanese, British, Italian, or German manufacturers – you simply have to have a model-based approach.
Don’t buy the vehicles from top brands – purchase a car that scores high on reliability ratings. Examine resale value, look for answers online, and don’t judge cars by their brands.

Tumblr media
I don't really go for "beginner friendly" options. When I got my first dog, I drove two and a half hours to pick up the only free option on Craigslist, an unruly hound/pit mix with emotional baggage. It took him five years to learn recall. When I wanted a reliable car to daily drive and work on by myself? I bought a 20 year old European station wagon.
My fiancee loves a project too. And we're both hopeless romantics. So when we were ready to buy a house, the Zillow filters were brutal. Built before 1900? Not interested. Grey floored flips need not apply. Open floor plans? No thank you, I have art to hang and that requires walls. Give me rooms!
We went to an open house for an 1850s colonial Greek Revival in the northern part of the state. It was gorgeous, and had so much potential, but the commute was a drag and it needed... more than we were capable of. After months (years, really who am I kidding) of daydreaming, we looked at that house and realized there are DIY's that we aren't ready for.
We kept scanning MLS listings, and got a little nervous about whether we'd find something in our budget that fit our criteria. We met our mortgage broker-recommended realtor for the first time to see a 1920s Cape in the southern part of the state. (1920's, I know. We were really nervous for a second an threw our criteria out the window.) The location was amazing but the yard was tiny, and we would have needed a rehab loan. We realized this realtor wasn't terribly invested in our search. We didn't make an offer. We decided to recommit to waiting around for the house at our price point.
A good friend connected me with his best friend and realtor, Ron. We talked on the phone and Ron got it. He was unfazed by the fact that we didn't care which town we found a house in. It made perfect sense to him that we cared more about the property and the architecture. We talked about the difference between tacky brick Greek Revivals with huge pillars (not an option) and gorgeous wood Greek revivals with beautifully intricate details (totally an option). He got that we didn't care if it was a 1700s farmhouse or an 1870s gingerbread Victorian. Ron's brother is a contractor. His mother lovingly restores historic homes. We were on the same page. Ron was looking out for an old house that was a great example of whatever it was built to be. We had found our guy.
We didn't even get to go looking for houses with him. The day after our call, we saw a listing for an open house for an 1882 vernacular Victorian in an area we spend a lot of time in. We went to see it that Sunday while Ron was with other clients. We were immediately in love. There were so many couples coming in and out, and honestly we were certain we'd be outbid. It's hard to have hope when you park your legal-to-drink station wagon in a lot surrounded by late model year BMWs. The house was on the National Register. The house had a snippet on Wikipedia(!).
We left the open house and called Ron from a parking lot down the street. "We want this one!" Ron and I planned to go back together the next day, and after he saw it too, he gave his blessing for us to put in an offer.
In the year of our lord 2023, you probably think you know where this story is about to go. A bidding war, tears, anxiety!
Nope. Ron helped us craft our best possible offer, advising on non-monetary bonuses that could set us apart. We were going to need to find a subletter regardless, so could give the seller plenty of time until closing. We were unafraid of old plaster, lead, and asbestos, so we promised not to nitpick after inspection (well, we have a healthy respect for lead and asbestos, but it's not keeping us out of our dream home). Ron built a rapport with the sellers agents who were also incredibly easy to work with. And the BMW driving hordes of open house people? While we were looking at our dream home, they must have been looking at tiny bedrooms, a wildly dated kitchen, and some choice wallpaper decisions. Ours was the first offer, and it was accepted right away.
There's a lot of work to do! But I like things that need work.

Luxury Auto Auctions: How to Buy a High-End Car for Less
Have you ever dreamed of driving a Bentley, Mercedes-Benz, Porsche, or Ferrari but thought they were out of your budget? What if I told you that owning a luxury car is more affordable than you think? Luxury auto auctions provide a unique opportunity to purchase high-end vehicles at a fraction of their retail price. Instead of paying full price at a dealership, you can bid on premium cars at auction and secure an incredible deal. But how do you know where to look and what to avoid? That’s where Herolot comes in—an excellent tool that helps buyers track upcoming auctions, analyze past sales, and find the best deals on luxury vehicles.
Tumblr media
Why Buy a Luxury Car at an Auction?
Buying a luxury car at an auction can save you thousands of dollars compared to buying from a dealership. Some high-end vehicles at auction are lease returns, repossessions, or surplus dealer inventory, meaning you can get a like-new car for a fraction of its retail price. ✔ Huge savings – Avoid dealership markups. ✔ Wide selection – Find rare and exotic models. ✔ Direct access to high-end vehicles – No middlemen.
Where to Find Luxury Auto Auctions
Finding the right auction is key. ✔ Copart & IAAI – Specialize in salvage and insurance vehicles. ✔ Manheim & ADESA – Dealer-exclusive auctions, but some allow public buyers. ✔ Herolot – Tracks upcoming luxury auto auctions across multiple platforms.
Types of Luxury Cars Available at Auctions
You’ll find everything from Mercedes S-Class and BMW 7 Series to Porsche 911s and Bentley Continentals. Some auctions even feature supercars like Ferraris and Lamborghinis.
How Herolot Helps You Track the Best Deals
Instead of checking multiple auction websites daily, use Herolot to: ✔ Track upcoming luxury car listings. ✔ Compare past sales prices to know if you’re getting a deal. ✔ Get alerts when your dream car is available.
Public vs. Dealer-Only Luxury Car Auctions
Not all auctions are accessible to the public. ✔ Public Auctions – Open to all buyers, though selection may be limited. ✔ Dealer-Only Auctions – Require a dealer’s license but have better-condition cars.
Understanding Salvage vs. Clean Title Luxury Cars
Many auction vehicles come with salvage titles, meaning they were damaged, stolen, or written off by insurance companies. ✔ Salvage Title Cars – Often need repairs but can be bargains. ✔ Clean Title Cars – Typically more expensive but less risky.
What to Look for in a High-End Auction Vehicle
Before bidding on a luxury car, inspect the listing carefully. ✔ Service history and accident reports ✔ Mileage – lower isn’t always better ✔ Condition – frame damage or flood history?
How to Research a Luxury Car Before Bidding
Take time to research before you bid. ✔ Check past auction prices – Don’t overpay. ✔ Use Herolot to track trends – Some models hold value better. ✔ Watch similar cars to see their final bid prices.
Using a VIN Check to Avoid Costly Mistakes
A VIN check can uncover hidden issues. ✔ Title status – clean, salvage, rebuilt? ✔ Reported accidents or flood damage? ✔ Odometer rollbacks or fraud?
Bidding Strategies to Get the Best Price
Winning a luxury car auction requires a plan. ✔ Set a budget and don’t get emotional. ✔ Avoid bidding wars – wait until the last minute. ✔ Look for listings ending at odd hours for less competition.
Common Pitfalls to Avoid at Luxury Auto Auctions
Even seasoned buyers make mistakes. Avoid: ❌ Bidding too early and driving up the price. ❌ Skipping the VIN check and buying a problem car. ❌ Ignoring auction fees – they add up fast.
Success Stories: Buyers Who Scored Incredible Deals
Many buyers have saved tens of thousands on luxury cars at auctions. ✔ A Mercedes-Benz S-Class for 50% of retail price. ✔ A Porsche 911 for $20,000 less than dealership pricing. ✔ A Bentley Continental for under $50,000.
When Is the Best Time to Buy at an Auction?
Timing matters. ✔ December & January – Prices drop as demand slows. ✔ Midweek auctions – Fewer bidders mean lower prices. ✔ End of the month – Dealers offload unsold inventory.
Luxury Car Auction Fees and Hidden Costs
Be aware of extra costs. ✔ Buyer’s premium – A percentage of the final bid. ✔ Title & documentation fees. ✔ Transportation costs if buying from out of state.
Final Tips for Buying a High-End Car for Less
✔ Use Herolot to track future listings. ✔ Research vehicle history before bidding. ✔ Set a maximum budget and stick to it. Luxury auto auctions offer an incredible way to own a high-end car without breaking the bank. With the right strategy and the right tools like Herolot, you can land a luxury vehicle at an unbeatable price.

Are You Sure You’re Choosing the Right Auto Repair Service?
Tumblr media
When it comes to maintaining your vehicle, the choice of an auto repair service can make a significant difference in your car's performance, safety, and longevity. Whether you’re facing a routine oil change, unexpected repairs, or a major overhaul, finding a trustworthy and skilled mechanic or repair shop is essential. But with so many options available, how can you be sure you’re making the right decision? Here are some crucial factors to consider when selecting an auto repair service, Ensure your car gets the attention it deserves.
1. Reputation Matters: Check Reviews and Recommendations
A well-established reputation is one of the most reliable indicators of a trustworthy auto repair service. Start by asking family, friends, and colleagues for recommendations, especially those who have had similar experiences with their cars. Personal referrals often lead to finding reputable mechanics who are both skilled and honest.
In addition to word-of-mouth, check online reviews. Websites like Google, Yelp, and the Better Business Bureau offer valuable insights into customer experiences. Look for a pattern of consistent positive feedback, particularly when it comes to honesty, quality of work, and customer service. Be cautious if a shop has numerous negative reviews or complaints about overcharging, unnecessary repairs, or poor customer service.
2. Certification and Qualifications: Are They Properly Trained?
Certifications are important when evaluating the expertise of an auto repair service. The National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) is a reputable certifying body that recognizes mechanics who have passed rigorous exams and have several years of hands-on experience. ASE certification ensures that a mechanic has up-to-date knowledge of vehicle technology and repair methods.
Additionally, check if the auto repair shop itself is accredited or affiliated with any industry organizations. Membership in professional groups, such as the Automotive Service Association (ASA), indicates a commitment to high standards and ethical practices.
3. Experience and Specialization: Can They Handle Your Car’s Needs?
While many auto repair shops can handle basic services like oil changes or brake repairs, others specialize in specific brands, vehicle types, or repair services. Before choosing a repair shop, consider the age and model of your car. If you own a luxury or high-performance vehicle, you may need a shop with experience in dealing with specific makes, such as BMW, Mercedes, or Tesla. On the other hand, a general repair shop might be sufficient for routine maintenance on a standard car.
Inquire about the experience of the technicians and whether they’ve worked with your car’s make and model. Ask whether the shop can handle complex repairs or if they rely on external specialists. A repair shop that is familiar with your vehicle’s specifications is more likely to provide reliable, accurate service.
4. Transparency: Are They Clear About Costs and Repairs?
One of the most frustrating experiences as a car owner is dealing with unexpected costs or unclear repair estimates. A reputable auto repair service should be transparent about pricing and the work that needs to be done. Before agreeing to any repairs, ask for a written estimate outlining the costs of parts and labor. If additional work is needed once the repair begins, the shop should contact you for approval before proceeding.
It’s important to understand the breakdown of your bill. A trustworthy mechanic will not only explain the costs but also provide a detailed invoice that lists all work performed, parts replaced, and labor charges. Additionally, make sure the shop provides warranties for both parts and labor. Warranties give you peace of mind that the repair shop stands behind its work.
5. Customer Service: How Are You Treated?
Customer service plays a major role in the overall experience with an auto repair service. From the moment you walk into the shop or speak with the receptionist on the phone, gauge how well you’re treated. Are they courteous, friendly, and willing to listen to your concerns? Do they take the time to explain your car’s issues in a way that you can understand?
A good repair shop will take the time to educate you about your vehicle’s condition and make suggestions for repairs or maintenance without pushing unnecessary services. If a shop seems too eager to upsell you or pressure you into repairs that don’t seem necessary, it’s a red flag. A reliable mechanic should prioritize building trust and offering services that benefit your vehicle’s long-term health.
6. Convenience and Location: Is It Accessible and Efficient?
Consider the location and convenience of the repair shop. Ideally, you want a shop that’s located nearby so you don’t have to travel far in case of an emergency. A shop close to your home or workplace can also make drop-offs and pick-ups more convenient. However, don’t let convenience outweigh the importance of quality—sometimes, a shop that’s a little farther away may offer better service and value.
Additionally, ask about the shop’s turnaround time. Some repairs, like oil changes or tire rotations, should only take a short time, while more complex repairs may require several days. The best repair shops will be transparent about time estimates and may even offer loaner vehicles or shuttle services to help you get around while your car is being serviced.
7. Use of Quality Parts: Are They Using Original Equipment?
When it comes to replacing parts on your vehicle, the type of parts used can make a big difference in the performance and longevity of your car. A reputable repair shop will use high-quality parts, preferably Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) parts, which are designed specifically for your car. These parts tend to be more reliable and durable than aftermarket parts, which may not always meet the same standards.
While OEM parts are usually more expensive, some shops offer a mix of OEM and high-quality aftermarket parts, which can offer a balance of quality and cost. Be sure to ask your repair service what type of parts they plan to use for repairs and whether they offer a warranty on those parts.
8. Ethics and Integrity: Can You Trust Them?
Finally, the ethics and integrity of an auto repair service should not be overlooked. You want to work with a shop that has a reputation for honesty, transparency, and fairness. An ethical repair shop will never pressure you into unnecessary repairs, and they will give you all the information you need to make informed decisions about your car.
One red flag to watch out for is a mechanic who tries to pressure you into expensive repairs or services you don’t need. A trustworthy mechanic will take the time to explain your car’s issues and provide options that suit your budget and needs. They should also be willing to answer any questions you have about the repair process.
Conclusion
Choosing the best auto repair service in Newark, DE is a decision that can impact both the safety of your vehicle and your overall satisfaction as a car owner.
