He was so nervous. He had never brought a girl home before, but it was either he meets your parents, or you meet his. He obviously chose the ladder.

The only one you knew was Sue, because she went to the same high school, but otherwise you know nothing about the Hecks, so you are a little nervous

You're nervous they won't like you and Axl is nervous that they will embarrass him and you'll dump him. God, you're both nervous wrecks

He's trying to make sure everything is perfect, because he doesn't need the whole thing ruined

With this family though, something goes wrong. His mom burns the meatloaf, the vegetables were over salted, and the drinks were spilled everywhere. It was awful. Frankie [Mrs. Heck] asked Mike to get takeout, to try and save the night

When he was driving you home, he kept apologizing because he didn't know what else to say

He was flabbergasted when you started laughing

"God, your family is such a riot. Is it always like that?"

He smiles a little, happy that you aren't dumping him. "Thankfully not."

When he gets home and his mom asks him what happened, he's happy to tell her that you had a good time, even after everything that happened.
