Stars glistened in the velvety pitch black sky while the pale moonlight trickled down to illuminate your apartment balcony. A perfect summer night, somewhat dictated by cancelled clubbing plans, had now left you stranded.
Okay, stranded may be a bit harsh. You suppose ‘unsatisfied’ was a slightly more fitting word to describe the scenario you had been left in.
The cancelled plans in question prompted a late night hang out and smoke session with your long time friend and roommate, Ashton. Also known as, the biggest pain in your fucking ass.
"Heads or tails?"
Ashton was a homebody. Occasionally stepping out of his comfort zone in order to entertain the people he loved, Ashton was no stranger to making quick celebrity appearances at social gatherings. But he was also no stranger to dodging plans and making excuses to stay home and rot.
So when your old friend Luke had texted the two of you in a group-chat saying that plans had gone awry, Ashton had no complaints.
"Why are you asking me that?" you chuckle towards your slightly dazed roommate, sitting crisscross in your wicker patio chair.
"Don’t ask. Just pick. Heads, or tails?"
You gnaw on the inside of your cheek for a moment, watching as Ashton tosses a quarter mindlessly in and out of his palm.
Watching the coin occasionally catch the lighting of your balcony made you wish it was some sort of disco ball or strobe light. But then again, there was no possibility of you changing the events that unfolded well over two hours ago, so it was in your best interest to just forget about it.
"Hm. Heads."
"Heads?" Ashton echoes, sitting up slightly in his chair to take a hit of the joint you were splitting.
"Yeah, heads. Don’t know why but— I just feel it."
With an eyebrow raised, he shrugs, before tossing the coin up into the air and catching it with his other hand. He slaps the quarter onto the inside of his wrist; but the up side remains covered by his palm.
"Heads, right?"
"Yeah. Heads. That's what I just said, dumbass."
His side glance to you indicated that your blunt insult had rolled right off of his shoulders. He took in an exaggerated deep breath before removing his palm from the coin.
"Tails."
"No shit. You’re lying. Show me."
Ashton chuckles and picks up the coin, showing you the tails side of the quarter; the side it had landed on.
"You had a 50/50 shot and you blew it. What are the fucking odds of that?"
Slightly annoyed by this stupid game of chance, you scoff. "Did you really just make a big show of that to make me feel stupid?"
"I wasn’t trying to make you feel stupid. Then again, it’s not my fault that you are—"
You cut him off by shooting him an icy glare. A watch your mouth kind of glare.
"—Sometimes. Not all the time."
"That’s what I thought… Now, pass it. You’re hoggin’ the shit."
Begrudgingly, Ashton does what you had asked of him. He ashes the joint into the ashtray before extending his arm across to you. You pluck the stick from between his fingers with a satisfied smile, before taking a pull yourself.
Ashton’s mannerisms, although mildly annoying, had become somewhat of a comforting thing to you. You appreciated the way he always did the things you asked him to; despite occasionally putting up a fight about them. He was also very kind when need be— a shoulder to cry on, an open ear to listen. You lucked out in the friend department, and you couldn’t have been any happier with the outcome of the game of chance you played when you asked him to be your roommate.
The second bedroom of that two bedroom apartment could’ve gone to anyone. But Ashton jumped at the chance.
Now that you thought about it; it was kind of like a coin flip. 50/50 odds of success.
"The sky is so fuckin’ clear tonight. I feel like I’m tripping or something."
You shake your head, briefly knocking you out of your Ash-induced space out, "Nah, I see it too. It’s like, so clear, that it feels like it shouldn’t be— y’know?"
Ashton turns to face you, biting back a teasing smile. You return the glance as well. "What? Why're you making that face?"
"Be honest with me. Do you think about the end of your sentences before you say them?"
"You’re such a dick!" You chuckle, knowing full and well that whatever you had just said indeed made zero sense, "I thought you were too blitzed to notice."
"I’ve got the tolerance of a 100 year old tortoise. Nothin’ gets me that blitzed anymore."
"That’s a you problem then. Personally, I could take one wrong hit and be knocked out for the rest of the night. Depends on the day, really."
These kinds of meaningless conversations were, sometimes, the best part of your day. With yours and Ashton’s lives being so seperate, despite living under the same roof, it was nice to have someone to talk about nothing with.
He was like a palette cleanse. The calm amidst the chaos.
Although, to describe Ashton Irwin as calm was quite a generous compliment.
"How ya' feeling right now? Since it depends on the day, according to you."
Taking his question with careful consideration, you stretch out your legs and arms, before rising to your feet. A blissful sigh falls past your lips while your limbs fall limp, the joint still dangling between your fingertips.
You glance over at him to catch his attention, but he had already been watching.
"I feel fucking fantastic."
"Good to hear," Ashton agrees, "Me too."
"Oh yeah?" you challenge, walking over to the balcony and leaning your elbows onto it to look off and speak into the distant sky, "What’s got you feeling so good?"
There’s a brief silence that falls over the balcony. One that’s unbroken; eerily quiet, with nothing else but the rhythmic summer sounds of crickets and cicadas.
Your brows furrow at this deafening pause, bringing you to look over your shoulder back at him.
He was still just staring at you.
With hooded eyelids and a passive smile, Ashton’s eyes traipse down your body, a glimmer within them that made a pit form in your stomach. A glimmer that you hadn’t really noticed until right now.
Maybe it was the lighting from the patio, or the mix of moonlight and a foggy head; but he looked— different.
The way his button-down hung loosely off of his shoulders, displaying his sharp collarbones and assortment of stacked necklaces. The way his arms tensed each time he reached up to fiddle with the necklaces in question. It was all putting you into a— compromising headspace.
His posture was relaxed, yet you sensed a bit of urgency in his eyes. You weren’t quite sure where to place it.
The reaction you were having to these small details of his demeanor were making you sick to your stomach; it felt right to break the silence.
"You gonna answer my question? Or are you just gonna stare at me?"
Ashton shakes his head and reverts himself back to eye contact. He blinks a few times, rolling his lips inward as he continues to tamper with his jewelry.
"What? What did you ask me? M’sorry— Maybe I am a bit higher than I thought."
You turn around completely so that your back is pressed against the railing of the balcony, giving him your full attention. "I asked what’s got you feeling so good… Guess I just answered my own question."
"Oh," Ashton mumbles, sinking deeper into the cushion he was resting on, "Yeah."
You quietly clear your throat at the awkwardness, due to how evident and absolutely mortifying it felt. Ashton’s gaze had long left yours and was now staring out into the sky, following the stars while he drummed his fingers mindlessly against the wicker.
Something inside of you was doing summersaults and whatever it was felt oddly new. It was awfully strange how you couldn’t seem to pull your eyes away from him, not even for a second.
You didn’t even want to attempt asking yourself why suddenly, out of the blue, your roommate and closest friend of 5 years was now looking like a meal ready to be devoured.
It’d be too complicated.
"What the hell are you looking at?"
Ashton interrupts your slight mental turmoil, his voice low and authoritative.
"Uh—"
"You were looking at me. Don't do that."
"Oh, so you can look at me, but I can't look at you?"
Your brow furrows, crossing your arms over your chest as you glance down the light hitting the pendant of his necklace.
"It's impolite to stare," Ashton taunts, "And now you're looking at my boobs. How dare you."
"Shut the fuck up! I was not 'looking at your boobs.' I was looking at your fuckin' necklace. God you're such a jackass."
"I hate to break this to you, but someone who wasn't staring at my tits wouldn't get so defensive about it... I don't mind, y'know. With a rack like this, it's hard not to stare."
Ashton pokes his tongue out through his teeth, cupping his pecs with his hands as if he was trying to show off his 'boobs'. You try your hardest not to laugh, suppressing it by chewing on your bottom lip and shaking your head.
"If it makes you feel better," Ashton starts again, sitting up and resting his elbows on his knees, "I stare at your ass all the time."
"You—" your breath catches in your throat, taken aback by his admission, "You what?"
"Okay, shit, don't look at me like that... Now I feel judged."
"I'm not judging you," you chuckle, "I just— didn't think my ass was worth staring at. Plus, I always thought you were more of a boobs kinda' guy."
The tension between you was heating up now, boiling and bubbling over like water on a stovetop.
"Oh, I am. Trust me. 'Stare at those too."
"Ashton!" you squeak, hiding your face in your hands as your cheeks warm pink.
"What?! We've lived together for how many years now? Can't fuckin’ blame me."
The game of ping-pong happening in your head was getting harder to ignore. It could've been the very small amount of weed you'd smoked, or the fact that you've been bored out of your mind since your plans had gotten cancelled, but Ashton was starting to look different.
Very different.
You weren't sure where to step with your next choice of words, but at this point, you really had nothing to lose.
"Is this you finally admitting that you're attracted to me?"
"Hm. Maybe," Ashton replies casually, a bit more casually than you'd anticipated.
"Maybe? Explain."
"Well, you are beautiful. I believe I've told you that before."
Your eyes widen at his compliment, feeling like you were shrinking by the second. "I thought you just said that to shut me up that one time..."
"I may have said it to shut you up but, I did mean it. I'm an honest boy... Notice how you remembered? That's gotta be good for something."
A chill runs down your spine, followed by a genuine, tried-and-true smile. You and Ashton had gone through so, so much together. Breakups, fights between friends, natural disasters; it was easy to let the little things slip past your mind.
But you'd never forget the time he called you beautiful.
"You know Ash, I've never noticed how attractive you are when you're not being a pain in my ass."
Ashton's lip twitches up into a smirk, as if his head had just travelled to where yours has been this entire time.
"I'm flattered. Being a pain in the ass is one of my major selling points."
"Consider me sold," you tease, rubbing your arm as the warm summer breeze flows through the balcony. You watch Ashton's eyes narrow, as he studies your body language with intent. There's a brief pause in time; and Ash seemingly shakes himself out of it with a puff of his chest.
"Ugh, I'm fucking bored," he grumbles, tossing himself back onto the throw pillows.
You nod in agreement, biting your tongue. The next thought to cross your mind was in territory you had vowed to never explore. But it was late, you were pining for something else to do other than stare at him while the tension only continued to grow thicker.
As you said, you had nothing left to lose.
"Me too... wanna fuck?"
Ashton's eyes widen as the world around you just— stops.
"What?"
Oh, shit.
"I— We don't... We don't have to. It— was just a suggestion."
Ashton licks his lips, his face morphing as if attempting to process the words that had just left your mouth. You could already feel the sweat rolling down your temples, beginning to regret having asked him at all.
"You’re fucking with me, aren’t you? Yeah, you’re fucking with me…"
You shake your head, having already dug yourself this deep… Why not go deeper?
"Mmmh, no. I’ve actually thought about it a few times. Honest."
"Oh my god," Ashton chuckles, momentarily ceasing your rapidly beating heart with its playful air, "you’re such a loser."
"Calling me a loser after I’d just asked if you wanted to have sex with me… Real’ charming."
Your cheeks were hot and your lip was now twitching with anticipation. In an attempt to ease your mind and regain some of your composure, you put the joint out in the ashtray.
It may or may not have also been an attempt to step closer to him.
"I’m sorry, I’m sorry…” he scrambles for recovery, “I didn’t mean it like that, I just— If you’ve thought about it before, why haven’t you said anything?"
"Oh god, can we talk about that another time? If I told you every instance in which I’d thought about having sex with you, we’d be out here all night."
You were feeling slightly more at ease now after reverting back to your playful energy, although the subject matter was still making you sweat.
Ashton’s eyes were wide and somewhat bloodshot, akin to how late it was, and now due to the information bomb that you had just dropped onto him. You felt bad for hitting him with it all at once but, if you’d kept it in any longer, you might’ve exploded.
"Would now be a good time to admit that I’ve thought about it too?"
You trill your fingers against your thigh, now with a pit in your stomach, "Yeah, probably. I guess it’s honesty hour."
"Awesome, awesome," Ashton hums, taking in a deep, shaky breath.
"…Well?" You couldn’t bear to leave the question hanging in the air for any longer.
"Well what?"
"Do you wanna fuck me or not? The offer might expire if you take any longer to answer."
In a hurry, Ashton stands up, wiping his palms on his jeans and adjusting his belt. He looks at you, frantically.
"I mean, shit— yeah… Yeah, I’m down. Fuck it. Why not?"
A small smile spreads across your cheeks as he steps closer to you, "Good, good… Now, don’t make me fuckin’ regret this.”
Without giving you any time to process what exactly had just happened, Ashton is barreling towards your legs. He wraps his biceps around your thighs before tossing you over his shoulder, leaving you to dangle with your face and arms hanging above the ground.
"Ash, what the fuck!" you squeal, whacking his back with your hands as he makes it a point to tear open the screen door and start running you through the apartment.
"You told me not to make you regret this!" he giggles, nearing towards, from what you could tell by looking at the floor, his bedroom.
"That didn’t mean to fuckin— oh whatever!" You huff, slightly out of breath, as Ashton fumbles with the doorknob. He kicks the door open, and you laugh at his eagerness.
"How’s that for a grand entrance?" says Ashton, as he lifts you again to lower you down sideways onto his bed.
"You scared the shit out of me!" you chuckle, regaining your vision as you had become somewhat dizzy.
"My bad. ‘Thought that move would boost my sex appeal."
The two of you laugh for a moment as Ashton gets situated on his bed. He sits with his back nestled against the headboard and you watch sitting at the foot of it, unsure of where to go next.
Once he’s all settled into place, he looks at you with a warm smile before patting the top of his thigh. "Have a seat."
"Don’t mind if I do."
With that same smile still plastered onto your face, you crawl over, and straddle yourself onto his lap. His hands remain stagnant at his sides, as do yours. There was an odd feeling swirling in your chest that came along with the closeness, but you couldn’t describe it.
"This is weird. I don’t think I’ve ever been this close to your face before," Ashton comments, his eyes wavering as they scan the features of your face.
"Yeah… To think that we’ve been roommates for 5 years and haven’t even kissed. Our self control is truly remarkable."
"Well, if it’s still honesty hour, I’d like to add that I’ve thought about that too."
Ashton swallows. You could feel his hand jittering around down by your calves as he moves the other up to cup your waist.
"Thought about what? Kissing me?"
"Mhm… It was that Fourth of July party with Luke and them down at the beach— a few years ago. I was drunk out of my fuckin’ mind… May or may not have rambled to Luke and Cal about how badly I wanted to kiss you on the pier."
"Drunk words are sober thoughts," you grin, feeling more comfortable with his weathered palms grazing your skin. "But that’s kinda’ sweet. I didn’t think you had it in you to be that sweet."
"I feel like if I did it with no buildup it would’ve been awkward as shit. But, I appreciate the compliment."
You scoff, finally feeling enough confidence built up within you to rest your hand on his neck. "Ash, after all the shit we’ve been through, I don’t think anything can be awkward between us."
"Well, I guess this can be added to the list of ‘shit we’ve been through’, yeah?"
The frantic, nervous energy around you had begun to settle, pooling onto Ashton’s plus grey comforter. You gaze around the room, taking in all of the details you would’ve never noticed if it weren’t for a moment like this.
"Nice place you’ve got here," you comment, your eyes darting around at the various band posters and random findings scattered around Ashton’s off white walls. Stolen street signs, pushpins serving as necklace holders, birthday cards from yourself and whoever else celebrates with him. It was all so unapologetically him, and it was making you feel a bit sick.
Ashton chuckles at your apprehension, beginning a slow rhythm of drumming his fingers against your hip. "Why’re you acting like you’ve never been in here before? Is someone nervous?"
"Nervous? Me? No, never. I’m as cool as a cucumber," your lip twitches, your hand traveling from his neck down to rest onto his bare chest. "Although I must say, your chest is fucking hairy."
"You sure you’re not nervous?"
"What makes you think I’m nervous?" You cannot seem to pull your eyes away from the necklace pendant sitting between his pecs.
"You like to say random shit when you’re nervous. I know you a lot better than you think, bubs."
You freeze at the nickname, the one Ashton had lovingly coined you with a few years back; it seemed different coming out of his mouth now, speaking on the fact that you were inches away from his face and straddling his lap.
A lot of things felt different now.
"You’re right, shit. I’m sorry… I swear I’m not usually like this I— I’m normally a lot sexier—"
"Is it different ‘cause it’s with me? Because we don’t have to do this if—"
"No—" you cut him off abruptly, shaking your head with a reassuring smile, "I want to. I wanna’ do this. With you. It— it was my idea after all. No backing out now."
The rhythmic tapping of his fingers on your hipbone had turned into a gentle, soothing rub. It was oddly relaxing, the way his fingertips felt brushing against you.
It had even distracted you enough not to notice how his resting hand had traveled up to your waist to match the other.
"So… do we just— go for it?" Your voice comes out a bit shakier than you’d planned.
Ashton’s lips weave into a straight line, a sardonic look in his eye, masked with obvious amusement. It was clear he was entranced by your awkward charm.
"I dunno’. I didn’t really think this far ahead."
That comment earns a smile out of you, you whack his chest gently which is proceeded by a soft ‘oww’ from Ashton.
"We should stop talking. Maybe that’ll help," you suggest.
Ashton nods, his eyes fixed on your lips as he pulls his own to the side, "I like that idea… Any idea to get you to stop talking is a great idea to me."
"Fuckin’ dick," you tut, watching that smile of his turn into something a bit more wicked, "Maybe if you stopped being an asshole, I would’ve kissed you by now."
"What’s with all the ‘maybe’s? Maybe this, maybe that… You’re all bark and no bite. That’s what it sounds like."
"Or…" You trail a seductive finger down to the first fastened button of his shirt, "…Maybe you’re nervous too, and you’re stalling."
Ashton shifts beneath you, adjusting his hips to meet yours and suddenly the feeling of his body is threatening to pull a soft whimper from your throat. He notices the subtle notch in your brow, and the way his touch affects you.
Oh, who are you kidding. Nothing about you goes unnoticed around him.
"Not stalling, no. Just wanna make sure your head doesn’t pop off your shoulders from how fuckin’ nervous you are."
You don’t respond to his comment. Instead, you just fiddle with his shirt collar, your mind already racing at the thought of the events threatening to unfold. Despite your timid manner, Ashton speaks again.
"Bubs, if you wanted me to take the lead, you should’ve just said so."
There was something swirling in the pit of your stomach now, that tension from before reclaiming its rightful place above your heads. You tilt your head to the side and admire his plump, rosy lips; the shades of fern and honey spilling into his irises and making them shimmer.
This newfound infatuation was becoming an issue.
Without another word, and no sense of anything else to do, you lean in slowly. You could feel as Ashton holds his breath the moment you start to tilt your head forward. But rather than closing the space between your lips and his, you place a quick kiss on his cheek.
You pull away. Ashton chuckles.
"That was cute."
"Shut up," you mutter, heat instantly rushing to the apples of your cheeks.
Ashton then leans in as well, that same, agonizingly slow speed in which you did, and pushes a gentle kiss onto your cheek.
"Are you making fun of me?"
"How would this be making fun of you? I’m just reciprocating what you’re comfortable with."
At this point you can’t seem to control the way your words are just falling from your mouth, "Well, I know I’ve kissed your cheek before, I think— it was probably a really long time ago. I thought it would be easier than to just go for it all at once. Because then if I did, I’d—"
Just as you’re rambling on and on about everything and nothing at the same time, Ashton places his index finger onto your lips, smushing them together and instantly shutting you up.
"Y/N. Please. Stop talking."
You pout, feeling him switch that index finger to a thumb, and use the rest to cup your chin. He drags that same thumb down your bottom lip, slightly parting your mouth and drawing a very, very quiet whimper out of you.
"Let me take the lead, alright? You trust me?" he asks, eyes earnest and longing.
"Mhm," you reply, melting like ice cream on a hot summer day.
"Good," he hums, satisfied, still holding your chin loosely, "Now c’mere."
It felt as though there was an entire galaxy of stars and planets behind your eyes and you pinch them shut, leaning in to finally bridge the gap between your lips and his. The first touch felt like a flame igniting in your chest— the taste of him a lot sweeter than you’d imagined.
And you’d imagined this a lot more than you’d ever admit.
He hums into you, that hand once stagnant on your hips now wandering up and down your sides. The kiss itself was slow, yet the fervor behind your wordless exchange was picking up pace. And fast.
You couldn’t even process how quickly the kiss began to deepen, his tongue now exploring and tangling with yours.
There was something deeply satisfying about kissing Ashton; like an itch you were just dying to scratch. You felt so comfortable in this satisfaction, enough to lace your hands around his neck and up into his cleanly cut curls.
Your hips were working on their own time, subtly grinding down into his crotch and creating friction that just felt like heaven. It was an indescribable feeling.
Ashton pulls away suddenly, leaving you to stammer slightly and a small sigh to slip past your throat.
"I’ve gotta get this off of you," he comments, tugging at the hem of your tee.
"Ditto," you smile, wordlessly beginning to undo each button of his shirt, as far as you could reach.
It was now a frenzy of undressing one another; soft giggles and glimmering smiles with each article of clothing removed until it was down to his boxers and the underwear you had blindly picked out of your drawer this morning. But despite the unfortunate pair of briefs, Ashton’s fond gaze remained.
"If I knew this was happening, I would’ve put more effort into picking out my shit this morning," you say, reclaiming your place on his lap.
"It doesn’t matter to me, bubs," he quips, taking his broad palms and cupping your ass above your underwear, "They won’t be on for much longer."
"You’ve got quite the mouth on you Fletch," you giggle, taking in how obscenely he was biting down on his bottom lip, "Might have to put it to good use tonight."
Before you could blink or even think of another word to say, Ashton is cracking down his palm onto your asscheek, echoing a loud, playful smack.
"Way ahead of you, smartass."
The kiss from before picks back up in a frenzy, like it was some competition of who could bite the shit out of each other’s lip faster. You loved the energy that he was exuding; his demeanor and playfulness still remaining the same while driving you absolutely up the walls in arousal all at once.
"My God, you kiss like an angel—"
The words tumble past Ashton’s lips and knock into yours, the compliment instantly reddening your cheeks.
"You’re just saying stuff. Stop being stupid," you whine, feeling your decorum slipping through your fingertips as they traced circles up and down his jaw.
"I’m not saying this all to humor you, you know. As I’ve said a million times, I’m an honest man."
"You’re really beating the shit out of that dead horse, Ash. How many times in a night are you gonna call yourself honest?" You can’t help but giggle, overwhelmed by the feeling of his skin.
"If you’re gonna call my bluff, then I’m gonna’ keep reinstating the fact that I’m honest. Humble brag."
You puff your lips, swatting him on the chest and letting his silver chain catch onto your finger, "Whatever."
Ashton pauses all movements for a moment, examining your face. You could see his pupils and how they doubled in size the moment they reached your collarbone.
"Wanna start pickin’ up the pace here. I’m getting quite frustrated."
"Sexually? Or are you frustrated with the fact that your roommate is super fucking hot?"
He scrunches his nose, a dimple poking out at the bridge of it, "You say I’ve got a mouth on me but— it seems like you learned from the best.
"The walls in this apartment are pretty thin," you admit sheepishly, half embarrassed, half aroused, "I hear everything."
"Is that right?" he quizzes, his hands slowly traveling down your waist to the tops of your thighs.
"Yup. I hear it all."
Although you had never pictured yourself and Ashton to be presented with a situation similar to the one you were in now, a flutter taps through your chest as you recall the many nights you’d spend with your head buried in your pillows. Attempting, and failing, to drown out the sounds of Ashton’s late-night callers.
"And how does that make you feel? Does it— bother you?"
As his question trails off, you feel his hands creeping closer to the inside of your thigh. The sensitive skin that hadn’t been paid any attention since the last time you’d landed yourself a hook-up, a few months ago.
"N-no. Doesn’t bother me. Not that much, at least."
"Well if the sound of my headboard smacking against the wall doesn’t bother you, it’s gotta make you feel something, no?"
You didn’t want to lay out all of your cards, or give him the opportunity to use this shared experience against you in a moment of weakness. If you were more honest with both Ashton and yourself, you’d tell him that the feeling you get when you hear those animalistic noises could only be described as curiosity. Fascination.
And a dash of jealousy.
"I’m indifferent," you shrug, ignoring that wandering hand of his, "I turn my music up louder when I know you have someone over."
"Ah, but you see. That’s not what I hear. You’re as quiet as a mouse when I’ve got company around. Seems to me like maybe you’re interested in what you’re hearing. Or maybe— you’re listening."
Your jaw falls agape at his brusqueness, "Am not! I would never that’s— that’s fucking weird!"
He seemed to be growing fond of how uncomfortable he was making you, but that feeling faded away when his face melted into a smile.
"I’m just messing with you. I couldn’t give a shit if you were listening. Although, the thought of it is creating commotion in my lower half— the more I think about it."
"You’re such a loser," you chuckle, "Put that lip you’re giving me to good use and just kiss me instead."
With no complaints or comebacks, Ashton obliged. You hated how redundant it felt to keep leaning back in for that same kiss over and over— but a part of you couldn’t help it. After thinking about what it would be like to kiss your best friend, and now getting to actually experience it:
You’ll never look back again.
In a daze, you dismantle Ashton’s lap. You aren’t sure what brings you to do this but it’s explained by how quickly he was able to aid you in slipping out of your underwear. The two of you giggle, you smile into the kiss, all of the endearing little things that made kissing him so worth it. You even managed to fully switch places without letting your lips disconnect.
Not even for a second.
"I really like kissing you." Ashton reads your thoughts, as he does quite frequently.
"Me too," you breathe, staring into those glittery sage eyes as they bore into you from above.
“We should just kiss for forever, maybe.”
“Oh my God,” a giggle slips past your lips, “I’ve bewitched you.”
The warmth of Ashton’s body on top of yours was compensating for all of the corny, seemingly lovesick nonsense the two of you were spewing. His laughter alone made tiny little goosebumps surface across your arms as you hooked them around his neck and let your fingers get lost in his curls.
“Bewitched, Bothered, and Bewildered,” Ashton begins to hum a familiar tune, his voice rich like dark chocolate and flying in through one ear and right out of the other. You can’t help but laugh, overcome with emotions that you haven’t felt in quite a long time.
“You know, I always forget that you can sing.”
He ends his brief song by burying his face into the crook of your neck, starting an eager trail of open mouth kisses down to the base of your throat. His body moves sultrily in tandem with the rhythm of his kisses, his head nearing towards the valley of your breasts.
“Can I kiss you here?”
His eyes perk up to meet yours, momentarily drawing you out of blissful sighs. He uses his index finger to point at your chest, awaiting your permission.
“Mhm. You can kiss me theeere….”
He follows orders. You decide to play along.
“And you can kiss me heeeere….” You move his index finger towards the top of your left breast, pointing at your nipple.
Ashton’s gaze flickers with a pinch of excitement, lips hovering over towards where you had directed him. Without breaking eye contact, he lowers his parted lips to engulf your nipple, and begins to suck on it gently.
That first wave of euphoria rips through your body as he works away at you, his tongue swirling around the bud with purpose. You knew he was a boobs guy but shit, you didn’t know the extent of it. His other hand finds the breast that he had left unattended, massaging it delicately as he teased you with his tongue.
"Jesus Christ, Ash—" your sentence is broken off by your breath getting caught in your throat as he grazes your nipple with his teeth.
A satisfied hum leaves his chest, and he briefly pulls away.
“Can I leave marks on you? Please, God that is so fuckin’ sexy.”
“Mhmm. Sure, do whatever you want, just—"
The moment your permission hits his ears, he’s biting down on the top of your breast and drawing harsh breath from your throat. Surely he’d leave a hickey or two in his trail.
Ashton continues his path of love bites, all of them turning a deep mauve the moment his lips leave the surface of your skin. You thrum in amusement, happy with the pretty douses of color and silently pleading for more of them.
“Fuck,” he mutters, taking a moment to admire his handiwork and trailing his thumb across a particular hickey left on your chest, “I did quite a number on you, didn’t I?”
“Everyone’s gonna make fun of me, I hope you know.”
“If they have anything to say about my artwork, they can take their questions up with the artist, m’kay?”
Ashton’s body was nearing dangerously close to where you were pulsing for him the most. You toss your head back into the pillows when Ashton leaves a few more kisses beside your navel, he was moving awfully meticulously and a part of you was growing impatient.
“Ashton—” you croak out, watching his lips meander down to the top of your thigh as he slots himself between your legs.
“I know, bubs. I know. Getting a bit needy now, aren’t we?”
“Oh Christ, Ash, don’t say it like that,” you attempt to hide your flushed cheeks behind your hands, “I’m not that selfish.”
Ashton doesn’t allow your expression to be hidden, so he takes it upon himself to reach up and pry your fingers away from it.
“Mmmm, greedy. Is that a better word?”
You scoff, “God no, that’s even worse.”
“Desperate?”
“Fuck no.”
“How about you give me an, ‘Ashton, I need you’?”
He smiles the moment his hands come in contact with the soft skin of your inner thigh. Maybe he thought distracting you with jokes and mockery would help put your mind at ease.
“Your impression of me is shitty.”
“I disagree— I think it’s spot on,” he defends, settling into his stomach, “Unless, you wanna prove me wrong.”
“And how would I do that?”
“Well, you’ve gotta say it. Duh.”
You roll your eyes, fighting the urge to grab ahold his taunting face as he hooks his arms around the backs of your thighs. He’s now face to face with your core and quite honestly, you don’t think you’d ever been this wet before. Not for anyone.
Hm.
Your thoughts are interrupted by a low groan, “—Excuse me for being vulgar but fuck, you’ve got such a pretty pussy.”
His words make you bite down on your lip, and your tongue; the chokehold he had on you in this given moment was beyond doubt. You couldn’t find any semblance of a thought to give him, so you just moaned in delight.
“Can I taste you? Please? I’ll make you feel so good— God, you’re just dripping for me, aren’t you?”
“Ashton—” you warn, not entirely sure if you were warning him, or yourself.
“Are you gonna say it?”
“For fuck’s sake,” you roll your eyes, sick of the pestering and condescending questions, “say what?!”
“I’ve been between your legs for less than a minute and you’ve already forgotten what I’d asked you to say! You are unbelievable.”
You could feel the warmth of his words with each breath he took radiating onto your skin, and the thought of him refusing to just indulge you was making you want to bitch and moan.
“God you are so annoying,” you whine, “can’t you just—”
“Just what? Eat you out ‘til you’re begging me for mercy? Is that what you want?”
“I’d prefer that instead of sitting here with your head between my thighs while you argue with me, yeah! This is kind of unfair!”
Ashton tuts softly at your whining, clicking his tongue with a shake of his head. His cheeks lift into a sinister smile as he drags his fingers along the tops of your thighs.
“Well, I hate to be the one to tell you this but, life isn’t fair. Not everybody gets what they want, y’know?…”
Ashton’s new game of hard to get, easy to slap was making you seethe. You didn’t think he’d take your typical, platonic bickering into the bedroom. Especially in such a high stakes situation.
But you figured out this mental game he was pulling fairly quickly, when he gazed sharply into your eyes and muttered these words:
“…And if you want it, you’ve gotta fuckin’ beg for it.”
His eyes flickered with challenge while yours continued to flutter at him with hopelessness. Desperation, at best. You never thought you’d be begging Ashton for anything more than something as mundane as washing the dishes—
But hey, life is strange.
“Ashton, please—” his words are getting to your head the more you think about what his felt like between your thighs, “I need you.”
“Say it like you meeeeaannn iiiit.”
His mocking, singsongy tone could’ve earned him a crack to the jaw on any normal day. But now, he was slowly creeping his hands towards the most sensitive portion of your inner thigh. Enough gentle touching from him could’ve sent you into orbit right then and there.
“Ashton, I want you. I— I need you.”
He cracks another menacing smile, fingertips digging into your flesh and leaving etchings in their place. That face of his was a tell all: this was the end of the beginning.
“Atta’ fuckin’ girl.”
Immediately, Ashton’s head tips down, his tongue dragging slowly across your folds in a motion that sends electricity bolting through your veins. You pant slightly, the sounds you were sure he was listening for trapped somewhere in your larynx.
He repeats this taunting act, eyes closed in bliss. So you take it upon yourself to bury your hands into his curls and pull a moan from his chest.
His skilled tongue was unrelenting, showing absolutely no mercy as he moved it around your clit. You became more confident in the sounds you were making, letting whimpers fly past your lips as you tugged at his curls
“Mmmhhh, fuck,” you groan, hoping your words would pull some sort of reaction out of him. On cue, Ashton’s head pops up slightly, and he makes it a point to replace that nimble tongue with his fingers.
“You like that, don’t you?”
“Yes,” you reply breathlessly, twirling one of those curls around your finger as his makes circles around your clit.
“Mmm, yeah you fuckin’ do… Mind if I get a little rough with you, bubs?”
You blink slowly, watching him stare you down through hooded eyes that were complimented by sun kissed cheeks and freckles. There was no way you could say no to that face, especially since he’d asked so politely.
“O—okay, yeah. That— that’s fine.”
“You sure? Don’t want you to be uncomfortable. Jus’ say the word and I’ll slow down—”
“No— God, no. Please, don’t slow down.”
The words came out of your mouth faster than you could process them, sweat instantly beading across your forehead as Ashton’s face lifted into a smile. Something sinister was behind that damned smile and always had been.
You’d just never really picked up on it ‘till now.
That smile of his faded away between your thighs and the sounds of your heartbeat were quickly drowned out by moans and cries. Ashton dove back in to indulge in you, locking his biceps around your legs and pulling you tight.
“Holy shit Ashton— You— Fuck!”
Ashton does nothing but hum in delight. If only you could see his smug expression beneath the valley of your breasts, but you were glad his mouth was occupied by something other than being a sarcastic piece of shit.
You were thoroughly enjoying how knowledgeable he was of you already; he picked up on all of your signs right away. Obviously, he knew you like the reflection in the mirror and he knew just how much you enjoyed the gentle suckling at your clit and occasional nips on the insides of your thighs.
“Ash,” you pant out, weakened by his tongue, “I’m really fuckin’ close—”
“Hm? What?”
As your stomach bubbled over and made it feel like your insides were coming to a boil, he just fucking stops.
“Why’d you stop?!” your voice was rather whiny, “What the fuck?!”
“Oh my God,” Ashton chuckles at your desperate verbiage, watching your pussy twitch inches away from his face, “You are such a brat. I stopped for like, two seconds.”
“You fucker! I was so cl—”
Before you could even finish your thought, Ashton is dipping back into you roughly. He swiftly unhooks one of his arms from your shaky thigh and slips a finger inside of you, working it in tandem with his tongue to cross you over the finish line.
You yelp, his actions catching you by surprise. As punishment for letting you think he’d edged you, you reach down and dig your nails into his shoulders. Faint red lines start to appear across his tanned skin and his body tenses up, back muscles flaring angrily.
A smile spreads across your face while your eyes roll back into your head, Ashton working circles around your clit with his tongue while fucking into you with not one, but two fingers. He was determined to make you cum, even if your sharp, baby blue nails were leaving cat scratches across his shoulder blades.
“—Ashton, fuck!”
One last shout of his name for good measure had you hurling over the edge. Right as your orgasm is in full throttle, those dreamy jade eyes pop up to meet yours. You make it a point to stare back into them, giving him a show with your pouty, swollen lips and flushed cheeks.
“Oh my god, holy shit— what the fuck,” you sigh. Both Ashton’s fingers and tongue had come to a slowdown, riding you through your high like he was on your back with a saddle. You giggle at the blissful feeling, letting it be known that you were grateful for the attention he had paid to you with a pat to his now sweaty forehead.
“Where the hell did you learn how to do all of that?”
Ashton finally lifts his head up with a smile, still gently caressing your thigh with that calloused hand of his as his face drips with your arousal.
“A magazine.”
“I think that was the best orgasm I’ve ever had in my fucking life.”
As shameful as it was to admit such a thing, Ashton didn’t seem to mind the compliment. You watched in real time as his cheeks turned rosy, not long before he shook his head to brush you off.
“That means whoever you’re sleeping with must really fuckin’ suck,” he comments, shrugging as if it were nothing.
“Hey,” you defend, “it’s not my fault they suck.”
Although this conversation was bringing you back down to earth in some aspects, every other piece of it felt so damn domestic. Romantic. Comfortable. You were able to run your fingers through his hair and push the rogue curls out of his eyes without fear of judgment.
“It kind of is, bubs,” Ashton was now making his way out from between your legs to join you back at the top of the mattress, “You’ve picked some real winners.”
His tone oozes sarcasm but that post-orgasm headspace made anything that left his mouth attractive to you. You giggle softly, dismissing him with your hand as you watch him get comfortable and prop his head up on his arm.
“Oh my God, remember that one guy with the fucking digeredoo? I’m sure he was just— phenomenal in bed.”
“Okay well, playing an instrument takes a lot of skill. Plus, he was hot and bought me a milkshake after the bar. How could I say no?”
You and Ashton were now side by side once again, his eyes raking across your body and sneaking glances down at your wet lips as you spoke. “If that’s all it takes to win you over, maybe instead of laying here next to you I should be out waiting in line for a milkshake.”
“Fuck a milkshake,” you scoff, turning yourself to face him and mirroring his position, “I could lay here all night.”
“Really?” Ashton’s eyes light up. You didn’t think you’d find that endearing but then again, here you are, lying next to him after he’d just whipped you through space and time.
“Yeah. I mean, what else is there to do?”
“I could think of a few things,” he trails off, glancing you up and down, “Round one barely even started. Just sayin’.”
You bite your lip while gazing at him through hooded bedroom eyes. He now seemed to be mesmerized by the small bit of mascara that had begun running down the side of your cheek, stuck on the little black streaks before he took his thumb, licked it, and tried to wipe them off.
“Ash, ew,” you pull away, “Why’d you do that?”
“Oh please grow up, my head was just between your fuckin’ legs.”
“Fair point,” you puff, face still scrunched at him before you flop onto your back with a sigh.
There’s a brief pause between the two of you as you stare up at Ashton’s ceiling fan. He stayed still by your side, taking his index finger and tracing small shapes on your shoulder.
“Damn, was it really that good? Like, ‘stare at my ceiling fan and ponder your life’ good?”
You glance over at his big, needy eyes. His face still flushed with sweat but his gaze telling you more than he ever could. “What’s wrong with pondering life? You wanna go again?” you ask, knowing the answer already.
“Well, yeah. That sure as hell beats staring at the ceiling. But only if you’re up for it. ‘Wouldn’t wanna kick you while you’re already down, y’know?”
“Why are you treating us hooking up like a sporting event?” you chuckle, capturing his hand in yours and rubbing circles across his knuckles.
“It kind of is one except we’re like— playing on the same team… and we both win every game.”
He glances down at your hand with a smile and all you could do was laugh at him through your nose, “You’re fucking stupid.”
“Mmmm, I know.”
In no time, your lips are back on his and he’s pulling you into his chest. The cool metal of his necklace pendant brushes between your breasts and reminds you of what started this whole endeavor. His hands roam your body, every single dip and curve until the only thing he could reach for was something he was already familiar with. You smiled into his mouth, simply because you could.
“Your lips are like sugar,” Ashton grumbles, his words knocking into your teeth as he brushes a lock of your hair out of your face.
“Thanks. Cherry chapstick.”
Ashton’s lips are eager, the kiss is red hot; you’re so ready to experience him fully and that excitement is proven by the quickness of you knocking him onto his back and sliding over to mount his lap.
“I think I like you better from this angle,” Ashton coos, running his hands down the tops of your thighs while you’re straddling his hips.
“What, like I don’t look good from every angle?” you tease back, feeling more confident in your prowess and sexual nature.
“Something about you on top of me— holy shit. If I could take a picture of you right now all fucked out n’ messy…. I’d get it framed and hang it right above the fuckin’ mantle.”
“You’re not too bad yourself, Fletch,” you run your finger down his chest and make the conscious effort to grind your hips down into his groin, “Sex looks amazing on you.”
“You’re such a little minx,” he grumbles, rolling his eyes, “it’s almost painful to look at you right now.”
“Should I take that as a compliment?”
You couldn’t pull your eyes away from Ashton’s plump lips. God they were just so— inviting. If it were socially acceptable to skip the whole sex part and stare at him all night until the sun came up, you absolutely would.
Not that there were any methods to Ashton’s madness, but after hearing him speak so highly about how he performs in bed, you kind of wanted to find out more for yourself.
“Sure, why not. Y/N, you make my dick hurt. Take that how you will.”
“I’m honored, actually. Thank you Ashton.”
Your voice is sultry, pulling your words like soft taffy and making sure they sounded just as sweet. You wanted him to get a taste of this more demure side of you, and also make sure that he never forgets it.
Not many more words are exchanged before you’re dipping down to kiss the center of his chest. Right next to the necklaces that had you tongue tied out on the balcony. He groaned at the action, hands traversing up your thighs and towards your ass to give it a tight, reassuring squeeze.
A few more kisses down the line lead you to the top of his naval. You planted another feathery kiss right above it, for good luck, and shivered as his hands moved with you down his body.
“Oh, I know exactly where you’re headed, bubs. You think you’re slick,” Ashton tries to hide the pillowy shades of pink that fell against his cheeks when your teeth grazed the band of his boxers. But all you could do at that moment was smile.
“M’ not doing anything wrong, am I?” you ask, eyes wide and doe-like as you slip a finger beneath the fabric to tease at his happy trail.
“No no, nothing wrong…” His words trail off, getting lost somewhere in the room. He tosses his head back and you watch those caramel curls just flop against the pillow.
Truth be told, you were intimidated by Ashton. But only in the moment where he’d taken off his jeans and was left in his underwear. You stared down at the sizable bulge, eyes still wide, wondering what was hidden beneath that red and black checked plaid.
You take a moment to let him adjust to your new position, and run a gentle hand across where the fabric hilled. He was hard, really fucking hard. Almost twitching out of the slit in his boxers.
“Ahh, shit—” Ashton hisses at the contact.
“Sensitive?”
“You could say that, yeah.”
When you take his length out fully, you stare at it for a moment. Gazing down at its size and realizing now that all the sounds you’ve heard through the drywall of your neighboring rooms may not have been an exaggeration.
“Holy shit—” you catch your tongue, biting back a smile as you take him in a fistful.
“What?”
“You’re really fucking big.”
The corners of Ashton’s mouth tug up into a catty smile, his tongue jutting out to wet his bottom lip before letting out a satisfied sigh.
“Say that again for me, please—?”
“Don’t test your luck, Fletch.”
After taking a moment to find your confidence back, you slowly ease his leaky tip into your mouth. Ashton hums on contact, body tensing and muscles contorting beneath you as you start a slow rhythm of bobbing your head up and down.
“Fuck,” he whines, brushing the hair that had fallen rogue out of your face, “Look at me. Please— fuckin’ look at me.”
Your attention snaps to his desperate plea and you find his face through your messy hair. His lips were parted, forming a perfect, angelic expression that looked like he was floating on a cloud. When the eye contact meets, those O shaped lips melt into a smile.
“Yeah, just like that,” he praises, watching you take his cock fully down your throat and bat your eyelashes as if it were no big deal, “Keep goin’, keep goin’— God you are just perfect, aren’t you?”
Something about Ashton’s merciful compliments made your core throb even more so than when his head was nestled between your thighs. You loved the way those pretty praises sounded rolling off his tongue, and were now just as eager to hear what else he wanted to say.
“Can y’ take it all?” He asks, knowing damn well you were too occupied to reply.
The only sound you could muster was a weak ‘mmmhf’, before you’re ducking your head down completely to the point where the tip of his cock was knocking into the back of your throat. He moans, you moan; it’s a cadence of obscenities. “Oh my God, Y/N. Hooooly shit—”
You keep your head down for as long as you could take it, swirling your tongue around his length and drawing yourself back up to his tip.
“Ahhh, shit— I can’t— No. Come up here. Come up here right fuckin’ now.”
Ashton grabs your head, gently yet effectively pulling your mouth off of his cock. A trail of saliva follows your lips, your face now burning up as you wince at the lack of him filling your throat.
“I need to fuck you,” Ashton continues, his mind working faster than his body at pulling you up to be level with his face again and getting you straddled onto his waist.
“God, please do— I don’t think I could’ve waited much longer.” You admit, with not a single lick of shame, knocking your sweaty foreheads together as he blindly reaches over at his side into his nightstand.
“You like that, huh? You like it fast n’ rough? I knew it, I knew you did—”
“We’re a lot more alike than you think, Ash,” you breathe out, interrupting your own thought to press a rushed kiss onto his cheek, “You just gotta start paying more attention.”
Eventually, Ashton finds a condom in his drawer and slams it shut with his elbow. He holds the packet between your hurried faces, taking the corner of it to his teeth and ripping it open in one motion.
“I didn’t even have to ask,” you bellow, giggling softly as he hands the condom to you to do the honors, “What a gentleman.”
“Yeah yeah, whatever,” he rolls his eyes and watches you move down to place the condom where it needed to be, “I’m a gentleman regardless of circumstance.”
After successfully getting the condom onto him, Ashton was back on cloud nine. His face came to a pinch when you lent him a few warm up strokes and shifted back to line him up with your entrance.
“You are so goddamn sexy, Y/N,” he mumbles, gazing at you with hungry eyes.
“Really? Tell me again.”
As he opens his mouth to follow your instruction, you sink down onto his cock without warning. A gasp chokes at your larynx as the feeling of him filling you up fogs your senses.
“Ohhh, oh my—”
You’re grasping at straws to say something, slowly swiveling your hips and feeling his length twitch inside of you like the missing piece of a puzzle. Ashton’s hands fly to your hips and stay there, squeezing you tightly enough to leave bruises in the place of his fingertips.
Your motions start off slow, the two of you in momentary shock at the overwhelming sensation; but Ashton doesn’t stay still for very long. He wants to know what you look like when you ride him, how those tits he’s always catching himself staring at bounce as you sway to the rhythm that he claims.
He snaps his hips up into you for the first time, which makes you cry out, a bit louder than anticipated. On instinct, you cover your mouth with your hand to muffle the noise. But Ashton wasn’t having that either.
“Scream for me, baby. I know you want to,” he muses, through bated breaths as his snapping hips become relentless, “Scream my fucking name.”
Although Ashton referring to you as ‘baby’ caught you a little off guard, you could do nothing else but oblige to his request. You whine, you grunt, you moan, calling out and watching it echo and bounce across Ashton’s off white walls until the only sound left in the room was his name.
“Atta’ girl, yeah. You fuckin’ like that? Yeah you do. Look at’ ya’.”
“Ashton, oh my God. Fuck me— harder.”
Your command makes his grip on your hips tighten, “Harder?”
“For the love of God, yes. Fuck me harder!”
The sounds of slapping skin and Ashton’s shaky old headboard banging against the walls seemed to drown out any more of those obscene noises; but your senses were heightened enough to the point where you could hear them all loud and clear. You toss your head back, hair wild and unkempt as the two of you find the perfectly rough rhythm of your hips.
“Ashton, holy shit—”
“Yeah baby, yeah, that’s it— cum for me again. Fuckin’, shit—”
Ashton’s greedy hands fly right up to your chest. He takes your breasts in a handful as you ride him, allowing you to ride yourself all the way through your second and final orgasm of the evening.
An exasperated sigh leaves your lips as you watch his release, in almost perfect unison with yours. His cock twitches inside of you once more and leaves you feeling sensitive, a bit worn out. But you didn’t care about the fact that you’d felt like you’d just run a marathon.
All that mattered was that you felt closer to Ashton than ever.
“Jesus Christ, Ash,” you moan out, dropping your hands to his chest as you lift yourself off of his cock.
“Mmmf—” he winces at the loss of your pussy clenched around him, his next words a bit strained, “it’s a good thing we don’t have any more roommates. You’re like a fuckin’ tornado siren.”
And there was the Ashton you knew and loved; back with a witty comment to top off the evening of multiple orgasms and your new discovery of a praise kink.
“Charming, Ash. Real’ fuckin’ charming.”
Giggles and more banter filled the space around you as Ashton offered to get you cleaned up. He ran through the apartment, naked, collecting up the necessary ingredients for the perfect aftercare session and making sure you had everything you needed to feel comfortable in the aftermath.
“Think you’ll be able to walk right tomorrow?” Ashton chuckles, his knee dipping down into the mattress as he hands you a glass of water.
“I could ask you the same question.”
“Well, to answer that question, I’ll be fine. Someone’s gotta carry you around if your legs don’t work, right?”
You laugh at him, swatting his bare shoulder and taking a sip of that ice cold water.
The rest of the hour was pure, unadulterated bliss. You hadn’t even bothered to check the clock whilst Ashton cleaned you up with a warm washcloth and basically dressed you in your sleep shirt and pajama shorts. You were just happy to know that he was willing to take care of you, whether it be as a friend, or a hookup for the night.
The two of you laid side by side in bed, talking about life, in a philosophical and stupid sense; basically anything and everything before his head plopped down onto the pillows like it were made of bricks.
“Ugh, now I’m bored,” he whines, fighting a smile as he gazes into your wide eyes. Ashton was always one for a callback, but this one seemed oddly intentional.
You look back at him with challenge, running your fingers through his loose curls and dragging your index finger across his sharp cheekbone “You know what you should do?”
“What?”
“You should go get me that milkshake.”

Older!Ash x Reader
You entered your brand new house, it was small, but spacious considering it was your first. Your mom and your dad finally let you move out, giving you all the privacy you needed.
For the first month everything was normal, until you heard almost every mom in the neighborhood talk about a handsome and mysterious Mr. Irwin. Only to notice that he was living right next to you.
You were curious, since moving to the neighborhood, you´ve never seen what he looked like, your window was right opposite his, but he always kept the curtain closed.
Adjusting yourself, you looked at the mirror and flattened your yellow sundress. It was a hot summer day, and what better way to quench your thirst than to deliver lemonade to your supposedly hot neighbor?
You opened the fridge to get a large jug of your homemade lemonade, and left the house, leaving the front door unlocked.
Walking to his house, you took deep breaths, and knocked on the door. Now you wait.....
A tall man opened the door, looking to be in his 20s. His light brown hair looked soft and curly. his skin sunkissed. "Hi there." He smiled. Making you forget why you were there.
Holy shit.
"Um-hi." You smiled. "I moved here a month ago and I ́ve never said hello, I decided to bring you some lemonade. Some friendly neighbor activity." You chuckled.
He looked you up and down, basically devouring you with his eyes. "That's awfully kind of you." You detected some kind of accent. "It 's no problem." You replied.
"Sorry if this is too direct but, how come i´ve never seen you before?" You asked him. "At my age, I don't go out of my house much honey, I like to read, play music." You raised an eyebrow. "Your age? Like 25?"
He let out a throaty laugh. "You flatter me." Making you smile. "How old are you?" You asked. "If you don't mind me asking of course." He grinned. "Guess."
"28?" He shook his head no. "30?" He shook his head no again. "35?" You asked, hoping you didn't say he was too old. "More." He grinned. "No fucking way." You replied. "40?" He clicked his tongue. "You're getting closer." Your mouth was practically on the floor. "I´m 44, sweetheart."
"What? That's insane." You smiled. "You definitely don't look or act 44." You said. "Hey, how is a 44 year old supposed to act?" He chuckled. "I don´t know, smoking cigars on your front porch, maybe?" You smiled. "I´m young at heart, you know." He leaned down to talk to you.
"How old are you, little lady?" He grinned. "I'm 19." He widened his hazel eyes. "19, wow. Basically a baby." You fake pouted. "I'm not a baby." You smiled, teasingly. "You are to me." He replied. You frowned. Did he actually think of you as a kid?
"What´s a young girl like you doing living all by herself?" He asked. "I just moved out, I wanted some privacy." You replied, making him raise an eyebrow. "Privacy, huh? You sure you´re not gonna throw any parties?"
You laughed. "That's not what all kids do these days, by the way. Maybe in your time, Mr. Irwin." You put your hand on your forehead. "That was rude, i´m sorry." He laughed. "How do you know my last name?" He smiled.
You turned pink. "Well, you must know that women talk about you." He raised an eyebrow. "Do they?" He chuckled. "Yeah, all the time." You replied.
"Can you tell me what they say?" He smiled, making you turn an even deeper shade of red. "Well, they all say you're really handsome and stuff... And how they wonder if you have a wife." You smiled. "No, I don't have one, sweetheart." He grinned.
Oh god yes.
"Oh, that's good to know. I mean, that's cool." You stuttered. Making him chuckle. "Well, I guess I´ll see you around, Mr. Irwin." You said turning your back. "Please, call me Ashton." He blurted out. "What's your name?" He asked. "It´s y/n." You smiled. "Nice to meet you y/n." I hope to see you soon." You looked over your shoulder and nodded.
When you turned around, Ashton couldn't help but look at your ass. It was sculpted and it drove him crazy. He could tell you were definitely trouble.
Ashton closed the door, and smiled. You were the only thing he could think of for hours. He wanted to get to know you, to know what your interests were, your life. He already was utterly obsessed. He felt like a teenager again, with hormones blossoming inside of him.
You were sweet and innocent, like a bunny. Something deep inside him wanted to ruin you.
You could not help thinking of him too. His tattooed arms, his curly hair, how his tank top hugged every place of him. How his shorts were tight around his bulge.
Shit. You wanted to fuck your 44 year old neighbor.
Ashton let his curiosity get the best of him. He finally opened his office window, to see if he could peek inside your house. Fortunately for him, this was the window directly opposite your bedroom.
After a long day, you decided to go to your bedroom to relax. Kicking off your shoes and getting out of your sundress. It was hot, so you absentmindedly left your bedroom window open, not knowing you had a spectator.
"Holy fuck." Ashton thought, his jaw was on the ground. You were wearing a lacy pink underwear set. The dim lighting in your room made you look ethereal.
Ashton was getting harder by the second. He knew this was wrong. Spying on his innocent little neighbor. But at this moment, he could care less.
You took off your bra, slowly. Ashton watched your breasts slip out of them, he thought he was dreaming. You were the most beautiful girl he's ever seen.
You reached in your bedroom drawer and found a pretty pink vibrator that you've stashed there. You laid down, tracing circles over your panties with the vibrator, letting out little whimpers.
"No fucking way." Ashton mouthed. He couldn't take it anymore. He took his cock out of his pants, bubbling with pre-cum. He felt like a pervert, but this turned him on even more.
Little y/n wasn't as innocent as he thought.
Taking off your panties, your pussy was on full display. Making Ashton´s mouth water.
You pressed the vibrator on your clit while you inserted two fingers inside of yourself, curling them. The shock made your back lift off the mattress, with a moan so loud you were sure your neighbor could hear.
All you wanted was Ashton. You wished his fingers were inside of you, you wished he was fucking you.
Ashton started to rub himself, watching intently. So what if you saw? He thought. His cock was throbbing, he was desperate to be inside you. Every muscle in his body ached for you.
You started to squirm, your clit throbbing with pulsing sensations that made you convulse in bed. While Ashton was shivering. This is the most turned on he´s been ever.
"Fuckfuckfuckfuck." You moaned while you bit your lip, feeling that familiar feeling in your stomach. Ashton started fucking his fist, harder and faster.
"Fuck! Ashton!" You screamed when you came. Putting your hand to your mouth when you realized what you said. At the same time, Ashton came all over his hand, panting hard. His curls were sticking to his forehead.
Did she just say my name? She couldn't have.
-----
In the morning you decided to lounge by the pool, and get some sun. You put on your favorite blue bikini and put your hair in a bun and headed out to the garden.
You opened up the door to your yard, secretly hoping a certain hazel eyed man would stumble in.
Sitting on a lounge chair, looking at your phone you noticed a tall figure looking down at you.
"Fuckin´ hot today, eh?" It was Ashton. A shirtless Ashton. Looking you up and down with no shame. "Good morning Mr. Irwin." You smiled. "You're finally out of the house." You added. "I wanted to see you, darling." He replied. Your mouth turned dry.
"You wanted to see me?" You repeated, making him smile. "Why do you want this old man out of your garden?" He chuckled, making you giggle. "Nah, c´mere." You told him, making a "Come hither" motion with your finger.
Just to think those were the fingers that were inside you last night made him shiver.
You tucked your legs in and motioned for him to sit at the tip of the lounging chair. When he sat, you spread your legs to fit around his thighs.
The only thing separating your pussy from his back was a flimsy piece of fabric.
"So, where are you from?" You asked him. "I´m originally from Australia, but I moved here a few years ago." You nodded. "Why´d you move?" You asked, picking at his sunburnt shoulders. "I think I just wanted to move on with my life, start a new chapter." He looked back at you and smiled. "Fair enough." You smiled back.
"I haven't noticed your tattoos." You said, stroking your hands on his arm. "Yeah got a few of them, love, years of experience." He smiled. "This one's my favorite." You pointed at his snake tattoo on his bicep. "It's one of my favorites too."
"Do you have any more tattoos?" You asked, rubbing both of his thighs. "y/n..." He melted into your touch. "I'm just asking." You grinned, placing a kiss on his neck. "Jesus Christ." He chuckled in between shallow breaths. "Are you sure?" He asked. You muttered an "mhm."
"I´ve seen you eye fucking me, Ashton, when we first met, when I was taking out the trash, right back then..."
He stood up, turned to face you, and sat back down."Dirty girl... When I was in college you weren't even born yet." You shrugged your shoulders, smiling. You could feel a wet patch growing in your bikini bottoms.
"I was touching myself thinking of you last night." You whispered, making him grin. "Me too." He chuckled. "You just looked so pretty yesterday... Your window was open." Your mouth dropped. "You perv!" You smiled. "Hey, you´re the one touching yourself thinking of an old man fucking you." He grinned.
"You looked so cute squirming, bunny." This sent shivers down your spine.
"Please kiss me." You pleaded. He wasted no time. He held your face with his two hands and kissed you, the kiss was fervent, urgent. Your tongues battling between each other, barely giving you space to breathe.
"Do anything you want to me, Ashton." You told him. "Anything?" He asked. "Anything." You smiled. "That´s a very bold claim to make." "I mean it." You smirked.
"Stand up." He ordered, doing the same as you. "You brought this upon yourself." He smiled, as he picked you up and threw you over his shoulder, making you scream and giggle.
He unlocked his front door and carried you inside. You observed three guitars and a huge drumset in his living room, complete with 10 pairs of drumming sticks.
He placed you on the couch that was big enough to fit four people, putting enough force for you to land with an "oomph."
"You look so cute, babygirl." He smiled, making you blush. You decided to make a risky move. "Thank you, daddy." You replied, waiting for his response.
You could see his eyes visibly darken, and his mouth turned into a grin. "Holy fuck, y/n." He smiled. "Want me to be your daddy?" He asked you. You could only mutter an "mhm." Your clit was throbbing, practically begging to be touched.
He trailed a finger through your bikini bottoms, making your whole body shiver. "So wet for me, and I haven't even touched you, bunny." He whispered in your ear. "Please, Ashton." You mewled.
He tugged at the strings of your bikini top and undid them. "You have such perfect tits, princess." He said, while fondling them. Placing his mouth on one and nipping at it, making you whimper. "So sensitive, too." He smiled.
Kneeling in front of you on the couch, he tugged on your bikini bottoms taking them off. You clenched your legs together, by instinct, blushing. "No need to be shy, princess." He smiled, gently pushing your legs apart and peppering little kisses on the inside of your thighs.
"Such a pretty pussy." He cooed. "Fuckin´ perfect."
He kitten licked your clit, making you let out a breathy moan. He looked up at you, waiting for your approval. You nodded and smiled, making him grin.
He grabbed your lower back with his big hands and pulled you closer to his face, making you gasp.
His pupils were blown out with lust. Dipping down to face your sex. Without warning, he dives in and you feel him licking a long strip between your wet folds.
"Fuck! Ashton." You exclaim, grabbing his curls and digging your fingers into his scalp. He winced at the pain, but he definitely enjoyed this.
You grind against his mouth, while his tongue draws circles around your clit. Throwing your head back into the couch, your eyes rolled into the back of your head.
The sensation was almost too much. His eyes never left you, enjoying the sight of you convulsing on the couch. Your pretty moans were like music to his ears.
He licks faster and faster. Groaning inside of you. "I'm getting- I'm getting close." You said in between shallow breaths. He starts sucking on your clit harshly, the sounds were borderline sinful.
You felt a tightness inside your stomach, like a cord waiting to snap. "Don´t stop, please." You mewled.
Your orgasm washes over you, making your whole body shake, clenching your walls around Ashton´s tongue. "Oh my God." You smiled.
Ashton surfaced, his lips were puffy and his mouth was covered in your slick. "Hi." You giggled. "Hi." He repeated, smiling. You covered your face with your hands, and blushed.
"Can I taste you?" You asked. "I-um, fuck yes." He stuttered. "Yeah, you can taste me."
He takes off his shirt and gives it to you. "Here baby, for your knees." You smile and bunch up the soft cotton material on the ground.
You kneel down in front of him, pulling his shorts down and snapping the elastic band of his boxers, finally freeing him. His erection sprang up at you. It was the longest and thickest cock you´ve ever seen.
"See how you make me feel, bunny?" He asked, making you smile. You pumped his shaft a few times to test the waters, making him groan deeply. "Fuck, y/n..." He moaned.
You kitten lick his tip, tasting his salty pre-cum, making Ashton´s whole body shiver.
Sinking down, you took his whole length, gagging. Ashton gently grabbed your hair, holding it to get it out of the way. Bobbing your head up and down, swirling circles around his tip.
"Fu-uck..." He moaned. "You're so perfect." He breathed deeply.
Soon enough, he was moving his hips, increasing his pace while his head was thrown back. "Makin´ me feel so good, sweet girl." He groaned.
He pulled himself out of you, grabbing you by the hair. "I´m not gonna be able to fuck you if we continue this." He chuckled. "Want daddy to fuck you, bunny?" He asked, making you nod. "Please, that's all I want, please." You begged, making him smile darkly.
You both stood up. "C´mere." He said, picking you up bridal style. You were still surprised as to how he could pick you up like you were nothing.
Taking you up a big staircase, you found yourself in a huge master bedroom, complete with another drum set, and vinyls hanging on the walls.
He plopped you down on the bed, a bit more roughly this time.
He looked around, opening a few drawers. "What 's wrong?" You asked. "Shit, I don't have a condom." He muttered. "I'm on the pill." You smiled, making him grin as well. "That's all you needed to say." He replied, taking off his shorts and underwear.
He climbed on top of the bed, hovering over you. "Daddy's gonna make you feel good, sweetheart." He smiled, you watched his eyes darken.
He puts a hand on your throat and pushes his mouth in for a kiss, hard, sloppy, hungry.
"You okay?" He smiles. "Yeah, just please fuck me Ashton." You pleaded. "Atta girl." He responded.
He grabbed your hips and slowly pushed himself inside of you, hissing at the feeling. The initial stretch burned, but slowly but surely you got adjusted to his size.
"Fuck, you´re so tight, bunny." He groaned, starting to pump in and out, guiding your hips, making you arch your back off the mattress, if they could, your eyes could roll into the back of your head.
"Please, faster." You exclaimed. You were lightheaded, becoming cockdrunk, letting out little moans that made Ashton go wild. "Want to ruin you, so nobody but me gets to use this pussy."
"Fuck! Just like that!" You exclaimed, feeling the pulsing wave of pleasure continue to grow inside of you, clenching around his cock. "You're taking me so well baby girl, won't last much longer with you clenching around me like that." He breathed rapidly.
"I'm close, Ashton." You repeated. "Cum for me bunny, let me feel that perfect fucking pussy." Those words were enough to make you cum alone.
You felt a familiar feeling inside your stomach. You felt Ashton´s cock twitch inside of you, meaning he was close as well.
You released yourself, gushing all over his cock, "Mphhhh.." You mewled and he filled you up to the brim with his cum, with a deep groaning sound,almost animalistic. he pulled out of you, letting his cum spill all over the sheets.
"Give me a second." He said, getting up and going to the bathroom, retrieving some wipes to help you clean up, discarding them in a trash can next to his bed.
"Was that okay?" He smiled. "It was perfect, Ashton." You grinned, looking up at him, pulling him into a kiss.
"Jesus, y/n, you´re gonna be the death of me." He curled his lips up into the kiss.

A/N: hi everyone!! this is my first fanfic that i’m posting on here and the first ever oneshot that i’ve written! as it’s coming up to christmas I decided to write a festive themed oneshot as my first post! i hope you enjoy :)
pairing: ashton x reader
summary: reader has worries about meeting ashton’s family in person for the first time
warnings: a small amount of anxiety
word count: 1k
✩ ✩ ✩
Usually, you were always excited for the Christmas season. Celebrating with loved ones and giving out gifts had always been your favourite thing to do.
This year was slightly different.
Ashton had suggested spending Christmas in Australia with his family this year. After many video calls had gone well with them, he assumed it wouldn’t be a big deal for you. Of course, it wasn’t at first. You were over the moon about getting to go to his home country for the first time.
With your flight there coming up in a few days time, you’d both been packing your bags in preparation. Including any gifts that had been bought for his family.
When you decided on taking a break from packing, Ashton offered to pick up some food. Expecting you to be ready to eat once he returned. Instead, he found you sitting out on his back porch, staring out at the darkening sky above.
He considered leaving you to your thoughts, thinking that you’d been okay all day. Something inside him told him that he couldn’t leave you alone. Something was wrong.
The back door opening caught your attention, glancing back to see Ashton walking outside. You sighed, leaning your head against the back of the chair you were sat on. He joined you, sitting down, waiting until you were ready to talk.
You cuddled into Ashton’s side, slipping your arms around his torso with your head against his shoulder. His arm draped around your shoulders.
“Everything okay, baby?” Ashton asked.
You shrugged, not sure how to tell him that you were freaking out about meeting his family in person for the first time.
“Is it about Australia?” He tried to answer for you if you didn’t want to speak. You nodded. “You’re worried for the flight? I know you’re concerned about how long it’ll be.”
“No, it’s not that,” you closed your eyes, trying to figure out how to explain your feelings. “I’m anxious… about meeting your family.”
“Oh,” he said. Not expecting you to say that. “You’ve been alright talking to them on our calls though, haven’t you?”
“This is different though, a lot different,” you sat up again, crossing your legs in front of you as you faced Ashton. “It’s not talking to them through a screen this time, I’ll be seeing your mum, your siblings, your grandparents, it’s a lot, Ash.”
With the way your voice almost broke at the end, Ashton couldn’t believe he hadn’t seen a hint of your anxiety to meet them sooner. You’d talked many times since agreeing, and none of those times had you expressed how worried you were becoming.
“You’re good at talking to people you haven’t met before,” Ashton tried to remind you. “You were fine talking with the guys the first time you met them.”
You looked away from Ashton after he said that, seeing the sun getting lower and lower. With how you were sat, Ashton moved to rest his hand on your knee, caressing his thumb back and fourth to comfort you.
“I’m not worried about talking to them,” you finally admitted. “I’m worried that they won’t like me.”
“Baby…” Ashton looked at you with a sad expression, the same way he always looked when you said things like that. “They like you already, they’ve seen the way you are on call, or when we’ve posted together.”
“How can you say that when they haven’t met me? Yes, we’ve talked, but over a video call.” You slouched in your seat, running one hand frustratedly through your hair. “I’m different in person than over the phone, you know that better than anyone. I’m quiet if someone calls me, but I can be the loudest person in the room when I hang out with our friends.”
“You’re my girlfriend, they’ll like you, baby.
“just because I’m your girlfriend doesn’t mean they’ll like me.” You replied stubbornly.
Ashton figured he’d have to take a different approach to how you were thinking. He moved to face you more, patting his lap for you to sit on, which you could never say no to. Now sat comfortably with your hands in his, he continued talking.
“They haven’t chosen whether to like you or not depending on if you’re quiet in one setting or loud in another,” he placed his hands on your waist, rubbing up and down softly. “They liked you even before they saw your face. They liked you as soon as they realised how happy you make me. All they’re worried about is that you care for me and love me.”
You nodded, listening to what he said to you. What he was saying was true in every sense. Your parents were the same with him. As long as you’re happy, and as long as he takes care of you, they couldn’t not like him.
“and you do care for me. Every day you care for me, and love me, I feel it every second we’re together.” He cupped your cheek in his palm as you leaned into his grip. “They like you because I’ve told them about the real you, the you that I fell in love with, the you that I want to be with forever.”
“What if I mess up or say something wrong as soon as we get there?”
“I’ll be there to jump in,” He reassured. “If you get too anxious, I’ll start talking. If you aren’t sure what to say, I’ll talk for you. Until you’re more comfortable with my family I’m more than happy to do whatever you need to feel okay.”
You took a breath as you nodded at him. Feeling slightly better about this whole situation. All you needed was a little reassurance from Ashton, and that’s exactly what you got.
“I love you, you know that right?” You chuckled softly.
“And I love you,” Ashton leaned in, pressing a delicate kiss to your lips. “You’ll talk to me next time you have any worries?”
“Yea, I will.” You promised, looping your arms around his neck as he hugged you closer to him.
For now, everything had turned out okay in the end. You’d admitted how you felt, Ashton understood and didn’t mind at all. He was going to suggest going inside when you spoke again.
“What if your sister doesn’t like me?” You asked.
“Don’t give me that! You two are practically best friends already.” Ashton laughed. “Now, come on, we should eat before the food’s completely cold.”

“We’ve Got Time”
Ashton Irwin x F!Reader
Summary; After one of his concerts, Ashton had a lot more on his mind than just saying hi to you.
Warnings; pure filth, NSFW, pet names (baby, love, beautiful, etc.), name calling, exhibitionism, unprotected sex, praise, kinda rough sex, oral (f receiving), dom Ashton, sub reader, semi-public sex, 18+ Minors DNI, cursing, dirty talk
A/N; So... After months of not posting things on here, I decided I’d post the first filthy fic of this blog for Smutember. I suck at writing smut but I swear it’ll get better eventually. Just bare with me, please! Anyways, I have tons of stuff I’m working on so I’ll be doing what I can to post a lot more.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
“You’re so beautiful…” He mumbled breathlessly into your ear quietly, but enough for you to hear him, as his hands wandered to your hips and pulled you in closer towards him.
The back dressing room wasn't the most ideal spot in the world for what was about to happen but god did Ashton look good after playing a show.
He came into the dressing room all sweaty and giddy as you were sitting on the couch, waiting for him to come in so you could praise him about how well he played but your plans were immediately interrupted when Ash came into the room.
Once he saw you, he gave the cutest smile and ran over to you, giving you the biggest bear hug ever. His curly, honey-blonde, almost brunette, hair was dripping with sweat as well as his whole body.
“Oh my god, Y/N, that was an amazing show!” He said in excitement as you wrapped your arms around him to return the hug.
“You guys did amazing, love!” You said with just the same amount of excitement in your voice, “Seriously, I loved it.”
Ashton gave a tiny laugh and. pulled away just the tiniest bit and smiled at you, saying, “Well I’m happy you enjoyed it as well… Hey, y’know, I may have an idea.”
“And what would that be?”
“Well… maybe we could have some post-show fun. Just the two of us.”
You blushed as you realized what he was hinting at. You and him always have had a very experimental mindset when it came to the sexual part of your guy’s relationship so doing something more intimate in semi-public areas wasn’t anything new to you.
“You don’t need to if you don’t want to, hun…” Ash said in a kind and soft tone. He was always so gentle…
“No, no… I’d like to. You know I’m up for just about anything… It’s just that I’m worried that someone will come in.”
“Baby, we’ve got time, trust me. If you don't want to, we don't have to. I can wait.”
You stood there in thought for a moment and then looked back at him.
“Fuck it…”
One thing led to another and now here you are. Making out in the back dressing room with Ashton right after one of his shows, in which ANYONE can walk in. It was scary but exciting at the same time. You didn’t know exactly how to feel.
You could feel his hands on your waist, pulling you down onto the couch with him. The way his lips on yours made you feel so ecstatic and when you sat on his lap, you could already feel yourself, and him, getting aroused.
His hands wandered from your hips to the bottom of your shirt, slightly tugging at it. He wanted to see you. All of you.
“Ash, are you sure?” You asked in a somewhat breathy voice.
He nodded and left small kisses on your neck, making you squirm a bit, before he spoke, “Yeah… Who cares? No one’s gonna walk in.”
You held onto him a bit tighter and ran your hands through his hair, letting him know it was okay. With one eager motion, he took your top off leaving you half naked on top of him.
The look on his face was enough to get you more of him. He looked like he was practically drooling as his eyes wandered all along your body. He’s seen this part of you so many times but every time he worships you as if he’s never going to see you again.
He left a trail of wet kisses down from your neck to your chest, taking in every moment of this he could.
It took your breath away. All of it did. The feeling of his kisses on your skin, the look in his eyes, his hands holding you on his waist, all of it. You couldn’t help but let out tiny, breathy moans as he kissed and worshiped your body.
“Baby, you’re gorgeous… You are,” He said in a low and rough voice, making chills go down your spine.
You looked at him with doe eyes and smiled. His little compliments always made you happy. They always made you feel good…
“Yeah, well it’s only for you.” You said in a quiet and sweet tone. You ran your hands through his hair and kissed him on his neck.
He let out a tiny whimper when your lips met the skin on his neck. You could feel his hard, and still clothed, dick against your soaked panties. You were both already so turned on… You knew he’d tease you for it.
“Already wet, huh?” He asked with a smirk, followed by a little laugh.
“Shut up… just fuck me or something already.” You replied as you grabbed at his shirt to take it off.
“Wait, love. You gotta be patient.”
“But-“
He cut you off with a demanding look in his eyes. You knew better than to go against his orders.
“I said, wait.”
Again, chills ran down your spine. You were getting impatient but went along with what he said, knowing he’d make you wait longer if you didn’t.
“Good. Get up and take off your clothes.” He ordered and right away you did as he said. You took the rest of your clothes off, leaving you fully exposed and vulnerable to him and anyone who would walk into the room.
Ashton had the biggest smile on his face. He stood up and took your hand in his, bringing you back down to the couch.
“Open your legs, darling… I’m gonna make you feel good for being a good girl, alright?” He said with such sweetness in his voice. His voice made your cheeks get bright pink as you nodded, letting him know you were okay and understood what he said.
He gave a cheeky smile and went to his knees right in front of you. His eyes had a gleam in them that showed pure lust and desire in them as he stared at you. He leaned in a bit closer and left small little kisses on your inner thighs. He was teasing you, again.
“A-Ash… c’mon is that necessary?” You asked in a slightly annoyed tone. You wanted him already but you knew it wouldn’t happen yet.
He looked up at you and pulled away slightly, “What’d I say, Y/N? I told you to be patient. You just have to wait.”
“Ash, I don’t wanna wait though… Please? I need you…”
If your begging didn't work, then nothing would. Good thing you knew exactly how to get what you want.
Ashton let out a string of tiny curses before leaning back in to leave kisses closer and closer to your clit. He gave into your pleas.
“A fucking-”
He gave you a tiny kiss.
“Brat, you-“
Another one.
“Shouldn’t even be-“
Another.
“Getting this.”
And with that his lips met your pussy and his hands held onto your thighs tightly, keeping your legs spread open for him. His tongue went through your folds and he let out moans, sending vibrations through your body.
You couldn’t form words as you moaned over and over again at the feeling of him eating you out. His nails dug into your thighs sending a shock of pain to you but you didn't mind. It felt good. You wrapped your hands in his hair, tightening your grip.
He moved his tongue out of you, leaving you to let out a whimper, and moved to your clit.
Waves of pleasure crashed over you as you tightened your grip on his hair even more and moaned. It was heaven, the way he made you feel. You adored the feeling of his mouth on your cunt making you squirm under his touch. You could feel yourself getting closer and closer to your orgasm, you were hot and shaking and you were in pure bliss. You were all his.
“A-Ash… ‘M gonna…” You could barely get the words out but he knew what you were trying to say.
“Go ahead. Go on and come for me…” He said against your clit before going back to the same motion of playing with it.
“T-Thank you… Thank you…” you whined out loudly before feeling that tight not in your lower stomach break. You felt yourself coming and you gasped out for air, holding onto Ashton’s hair tighter, making him let out tiny moans as he rode you threw your orgasm.
You let go of his hair and he moved back to look at you as you both tried to catch your breaths. His face was covered with your arousal. God, was it a beautiful sight to see.
He wiped away some of the wetness on his face and licked his lips.
“You need to be quieter or someone’s gonna come in.” He said in a quiet voice, starting to stand up.
You got bright pink again.
“I shouldn’t have let you come since you weren’t listening but I did ‘cus I love you,” he spoke again.
“Thank you. I love you… So much.” You responded, looking at him as if you were still on the couch. He stood right in front of you and started to get undressed as well.
“You’re so, so lucky I love you, sunshine.” He said as he leaned over and kissed you.
You could taste some of your arousal on his lips and tongue. He cupped your cheeks with his hands and pulled you closer to him. You both knew you wanted each other more, it was apparent in both of your guy’s actions.
He couldn’t wait any longer. He needed you.
“Lay down, darling.” He ordered, and again, without any hesitation, you did as he said.
He got on top of you and put your legs around his waist as he lined up the tip of his cock with your pussy and looked at you to see if you’d still be okay with it. You nodded and that’s when he went in.
The groan he let out was pornographic, beautiful even. His hazel, almost green, eyes looked at you with love. He stayed still for a few moments for you to get adjusted before he started to move. It was slow, at first, but then his movements got faster.
You and him both let out quiet moans as the feeling of him going in and out of you clouded your mind.
“F-Fuck… baby, you feel so good…” He mumbled to you.
All you could do was let high-pitched moans out as he started to go faster and deeper inside of you, making you go crazy. You couldn’t handle it.
He started to say something again, whispering small praises and moans into your ear.
“‘M close… a-again…” You muttered through moans, trying to stay a bit quieter.
“G-Go on, baby… me too…” he whispered through tiny moans. “‘M so close… Where’d you want it?”
“I-In.” You said almost immediately.
You needed him to fill you up. You needed him inside of you. He felt so, so good. It was like you two were made for each other, the way he filled you up so perfectly.
He nodded his head and after a few more deep, and now a but slower, thrusts, you both hit your orgasms. You both tensed up and you looked each other in the eyes with love. His lips were bright pink and he was moaning your name over and over. He felt so good and so did you. It was amazing.
You looked up at him and ran your hands up and down his back with a smile as you both finished off your orgasms.
“That was absolutely amazing.” You said with a huge smile, caressing his cheek with your thumb.
“Hell yeah, it was.” He responded with a small kiss and a cheeky smile.
“hey, it’s y/n. sorry, i missed your call. leave a message after the beep. bye!”
“hey, uh, it’s me, just been thinking about everything tonight and i don’t know… i just miss you so much. call me when you can. bye.”
ashton removes the phone from his ear and ends the call, followed by a long, drawn-out sigh as he stares at your contact photo.
you were standing on the harbour bridge with him, kissing his cheek. it was taken on his first tour, when the band was opening for one direction, and he had just asked you to be his girlfriend, to which you of course said yes. he was your best friend and the person you had fallen in love with years before.
you've been by his side since the beginning of the band till today. you helped him throughout his most difficult times, and he did the same for you. at one point you considered him your soulmate and imagined spending the rest of your life by his side.
that was, until the parties.
it wasn't horrible at first. you'd join him at a few parties here and there. it was fun at first but then things got out of hand. ashton would party practically every night, and the parties eventually moved to his house, where you also lived. and it was well into the morning before the nights ended. so, you'd just hide out in your bedroom or at a friend's house.
it was exhausting. you could never get anything done because your house was always filled with strangers. and you couldn’t talk to ashton about it because he was always hungover and told you he’d talk to you later.
eventually, it got to the point where you just couldn’t take it anymore. so, you left him.
ashton was a disaster. every night, he'd be out partying or at a bar, hoping to drown out the haunting thoughts of you.
his partying addiction had gotten worse since you left. he couldn't even remember what he done the previous week since he had been partying so hard that it was killing him.
sometimes he’d call you when he was blackout drunk, professing undying love for you and how he regrets everything. other nights, when he isn’t so drunk, he’d still call you and apologize for the drunk calls.
he was spiraling down a deep dark alley, and if he didn’t fix himself now, he’d never see the light again.
ashton didn’t know why he continued to party and drink so much. but, he continued without thinking about the consequences. even if he knew how bad he was while under the influence.
some nights were worse than others.
one night it got very out of hand.
it was nearing five in the morning and ashton had one too many like he usually does but tonight was different. he was angry. angry at himself for letting you slip from his hands, angry he treated you like gum on the bottom of his shoe when instead of the woman he wanted to spend the rest of his life with.
ashton sat on his sofa staring at the wall with a red solo cup in hand, occasionally looking towards the door hoping you’d walk through and come back to him. but of course, you never did, and you wouldn’t because you don’t go to parties anymore.
luke sat with his head hung, rubbing his temples. “ashton, you’ve had too much. cmon man. just go to bed and we will clean up. it’s almost five a.m”
but ashton doesn’t say anything, he just sits there and down the rest of the liquid in his cup before tossing it to the floor
“yeah, no wonder y/n left you.” ashton hears michael say under his breath which was just enough to send ashton over the edge.
now it was getting out of hand, ashton was screaming his lungs out at michael while he just stood there with his hands up, signaling he didn’t want to fight ashton.
finally luke called the one person he knew who would help. you.
“hey, y/n, i’m sorry it’s so late…well early but ash is drunk, very drunk. can you come get him? he’s causing a scene.”
"what? oh, christ. yeah, I'll be there in ten," you said as you jumped out of bed, grabbed the nearest sweater and sweatpants, and ran out of your apartment.
your heart felt like it was beating out of your chest. the drive was a blur, trying to get there as quickly as possible in order to avoid another fight.
you knew most people would never do this for their ex, but you still loved him. you were still madly in love with him at the time. you listen to every message he's ever left on your phone.
your inbox was overflowing with them.
you heard every sincere confession, every drunken apology, and every sober apology.
of course, you still had feelings for him.
you never stopped.
“thank you for coming.” luke swung the door open letting you slip inside, then walked through the trashed house. “he’s in the living room” you looked through the kitchen archway to see where luke was pointing, and then you saw him.
you pushed the door open and walked across smashed cans and cups to his side. "ashton?" your voice was soft, as if you were unsure how he would react to your sudden appearance. maybe he'll lash out at you, or he'll remain mute and go away.
he raised his head, his gaze meeting yours. ashton comes to a halt from whatever nonsense he was doing, which was probably another drunken rage. was this really happening? he asks, as he stares at you in bewilderment. are you standing directly in front of him? was he dreaming?
"y/n?" he calls your name, and you question, "ash, what's going on?" and his eyes glaze over merely hearing your concern.he only blinks in response, trying to figure out the situation.
he can't believe you're at his party after swearing them off, and it's for HIM. not anywhere else but his house. he says "y/n" a few times before wrapping his arms around your stomach and tightening his grip. he couldn't let you go away again.
you just let it happen and hug him back as he sits on the sofa, saying, "hey, I'm here, it'll be okay" and attempting to calm him down. despite your best attempts, he pulls away, taking everything in.
you noticed luke about to say something, so you put your hand out to stop him, silently shaking your head.
you knew ashton was in pain, so you took him upstairs. "hey why don't we get you upstairs and into bed?" you gently held his arm, which calmed him down. he allowed you to take him upstairs and away from the party. you pull over to chat to one of the boys on the way, saying that you're going to take him to bed.
"I appreciate you calling. I'll get him settled and then return to assist you with the cleanup." you say to luke before leaving.
you help him upstairs, doing your best to keep him upright. as you led ashton to the bed, he was babbling incomprehensible words. and after completing your normal cleaning and care for him, you took a step back. anxiety and confusion consume your body. thank goodness, his luke called you.
You've read the articles about his constant parties and the drunken scenes he created. he was a mess. but it was how he was dealing with the break up. you, on the other hand, have stayed home every night, watching sad movies, weeping yourself to sleep most nights, losing your appetite, and creating excuses not to see sierra or crystal. Isolation was your only option for coping.
you begin to rub the bridge of your nose as you stand by the side of the bed, looking down at ashton, who was in and out of consciousness. your heart was beating, and you were at a loss for what to do. when ashton opens his eyes and sees this, he becomes upset once more. he’s sorry you had to go to another party for him, and he rubs his eyes before saying, "you shouldn't have come." "y’hate parties." "i had to," you say, dropping your hands. "i was worried." he could see it in your eyes that you were sincere. "you're scaring me, ash" you took a pause to attempt to calm yourself as tears began to pool in your eyes.
you try to get him to bed without confessing anything or saying anything you don't genuinely mean, knowing he's incredibly inebriated and emotional. "scaring you?" he took a deep breath as he watched you toss his shoes to the floor. "yes. you’re killing yourself. i’m not going to sit by and let you do that." maybe you were getting a little emotional right now, so you looked away to gather your thoughts and finish getting him ready for bed. if he chooses to sleep.
you left the room once he was settled for a bottle of water. he probably won't know you're gone. only luke and calum remained, clearing up the garbage from the party. they all glanced up at you, waiting for news, but you just shook your head and said nothing.
you returned, half-opening the bottle and placing it next to the bed. ashton is staring at you in awe. "you're always the one taking care of me and i never deserved it," he says. “you deserved so much better than me." you didn't let the fact that he was incredibly intoxicated and emotional get to you.
you lower your head, nibbling on the inside of your cheek. don’t let him hurt you like this, y/n. you kept thinking to yourself, he was intoxicated and didn't mean anything. you get up to leave, eager to go home and cry into your pillow about how much he misses you. he reached for your hand, carefully gripping it, and said, "stay with me." you freeze, tilt your head, and appear torn, so he adds "please? just tonight." while staring into your eyes, desperate.
so, you stayed. laying on the opposite side of ashton, you heard his breath steady assuming he was finally going to sleep. until you heard “i love you.” you had only hoped that if you were still he’d leave it alone and would just go to sleep. but he continued. “when i left that morning, i didn’t stop. i never did. you’re my whole world, and i hate the person i’ve become. i wanted to spend the rest of my life with you, but i screwed it up.” your heart was racing, picking at your nails you felt him shuffle next to you. “you were the best thing i’ve ever had and i let you go. ‘m sorry. you can hate me. i understand.” you waited a bit, but that was the last thing he said for the night.
you ended up leaving before he woke up because it was now daylight and you didn't want to be there when he did. you stood above him before leaving, and he looked so calm. naturally, you bowed down and kissed his brow softly before exiting the room. so, you were gone by eight a.m. you had a minor breakdown on the drive home, knowing that the love is still there, and seeing him so vulnerable makes your heart ache. but you kept reminding yourself that he was drunk. he most likely didn't mean half of what he stated.
right?
you had just finished your meeting the next day and were standing in your kitchen preparing a cup of coffee when you were stopped by a rhythmic knock. you walked over leaving the cup on your counter. as you answered the door, you saw ashton.
“hey.” he said, stuffing his hands into his jacket. you stepped back, then saying “why are you here?” ashton looked around, spitting a few framed pictures of the two of you which he thought was odd. he thought you hated him. he shrugged, “i just wanted to thank you for last night, and everything.” you sighed, “come in” you stepped to the side and let him enter, then closed the door behind him. “do you want some coffee?” he sat down on the sofa.
“sure.” he answered, looking around the room. you came back with a black mug and handed it to him, and took your seat across from him.
there was a moment of silence, the two of you would steal glances at each other but didn’t want to say anything, wondering how to approach the conversation waiting to be held.
his comment was abrupt. “i meant what i said, you know.” you looked up from your coffee, to meet with his eyes already looking at you. “what?” you blinked, placing the mug on the table. “last night. everything, i meant it. from me still loving you, to wanting to spend the rest of my life with you. i meant every word.” he was being sincere, he held eye contact as he spoke and didn’t break it once.
truthfully, you didn’t know what to say. the situation wasn’t ideal, and to be honest with yourself, you knew you still loved him. “ashton..” you finally spoke, followed by a long sigh and dropping your head into your hands.
“then why do you continue to do this? you’re drinking yourself to death, ash. how can i trust that you won’t do it all over again, even if i want to work this out?” ashton stands up from his spot and moves in front of you, on his knees as he holds your hands. "i get drunk to forget the color of your eyes and the way your hair falls and how soft your skin is and the way your smile makes me feel; but it seems like the alcohol can't change my memory of you." he had been waiting to tell you this for the longest, “i do it because it’s the only way i know how to cope and i know it isn’t the best way, but it’s all i know.”
ashton runs his thumb over your knuckles. you look down at his calloused hands feeling your lip quiver “and if that isn’t enough just tell me, and i’ll leave for good.”
you shake your head letting the tears fall, “ash..i just want you to stop..all this drinking isn’t good for you, i can’t just let that happen.” you say, and he nods. “i know, i know.” he hushes your tears, raising up to hug you. “i’ll do better, i promise.” he says into your hair while wiping your tears.
“how can i trust you?” you ask
“because, i love you. and i’ll be damned if i lose you again.”
Seeking Out Your Warmth
Pairing: Ashton Irwin x GN!Reader
Summary: you wake up in the middle of the night a little colder than usual, just to snuggle back up to ash
Warnings: none :)
Word Count: 520
Minors DNI
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Sleeping with Ashton was like sleeping with a radiator in the bed next to you.
Hot.
The amount of heat that radiated from him couldn’t be normal, but it couldn’t have been more comforting, either.
You tended to run cold, and the need to sleep with a fan meant you usually froze to death without several pounds of blankets on top of you. Until you had Ash, of course.
Now, just your comforter was enough to keep you warm throughout the night. As long as Ashton was wrapped around you, you never woke up cold.
Not until now.
You didn’t remember the room being this cold when you fell asleep, so you weren’t entirely sure how it seemed to have dropped nearly ten degrees in the few hours you’ve been out.
You pushed backwards, attempting to burrow further into Ashton’s chest, only to find… nothing.
He wasn’t there when you moved, so you quickly looked over your shoulder.
He was still in bed, sound asleep, just a little bit farther away from you than you appreciated. You finally had the courage to glance at the clock resting on your nightstand, afraid of what you might find.
1:57 am. Fuck that.
Without another glance, you were turning over. You scooched over to Ashton, pressing yourself into his back as you wrapped your arms around his torso, nuzzling your face into the back of his neck.
He stirred slightly, gently grabbing your hand that was resting on his stomach, before letting out a deep sigh and falling right back asleep.
It took a few minutes, but eventually, you were sound asleep again.
Ashton was the first to wake up, just to realize that you weren’t touching him in any way. Thinking that you got out of bed, he looked over his shoulder to your side, only to see you curled in on yourself.
You were obviously cold - Ashton could see you shivering from where he was - so he quickly made his way over to you. He wrapped you up in his arms, feeling you let out a content sigh as you faded into sleep again.
It wasn’t even an hour later when you began to actually wake up. Now, you weren’t cuddling up to Ashton, but he was spooning you.
Your legs were tangled together, his arms wrapped tightly around you, holding you against his chest as you felt his soft breaths hit the top of your head.
You smiled.
You tipped your head back, looking up at his tired face.
“Hi, sweets.” He smiled down at you, leaning down to press a chaste kiss to your lips.
You smiled against him. “Hi, angel. How long have you been up?”
He shrugged. “Not even an hour. Just been watching you.”
You looked away from him, bashfulness immediately taking over you.
“Stop it.” You mumbled.
“Never.” He said, pressing his face into your neck and playfully nipping it, causing you to let out a laugh.
“Alright, mister, it’s too early for your antics.”
He chuckled, squeezing you one last time before rolling away from you.
“Right, then. What should we have for breakfast?”
In the Heat of You (Ash)
The air between you and Ashton feels thick, charged with something unspoken. It’s the kind of tension that hums in the silence, a pull that neither of you can ignore. You’re sitting on the edge of the bed, the moonlight filtering through the curtains, casting soft shadows across his face. But there’s nothing soft about the way he’s looking at you.
His gaze is dark, intense, like he’s trying to read you, to decode something inside you, but it’s clear there’s more on his mind than just figuring you out. His body is tense, his jaw set tight, and every time his eyes flick to your lips, you feel your pulse quicken, a spark of heat running through you.
It’s the quiet after the chaos of the tour, and for the first time in a long while, it’s just the two of you—alone in a room, with no distractions. But this silence... it feels like it’s about to crack.
You can’t stand it anymore.
“Ashton,” you whisper, your voice barely audible. You know he’s listening, can feel every muscle in his body tuned to your voice. “What’s going on with you tonight?”
He lets out a slow breath, eyes never leaving yours. His hands, resting on his knees, are clenched tight. You can feel the energy between you—raw, untamed, thick with something deeper. He doesn’t answer immediately, and the pause stretches long, the tension building with each second that passes.
Finally, his voice breaks the silence, low and gravelly. “I’m trying not to lose control.”
You lean forward, your heart pounding in your chest, the words igniting something in you. "Control over what?" you ask, your breath catching in your throat.
He shifts, a slight movement that feels like a warning. “You,” he admits, his voice rougher now, edged with frustration. “Every time I’m near you, it’s like I can’t breathe. I can’t think. And I—” He cuts himself off with a sharp exhale, standing abruptly. The air between you crackles with the shift, the space between you now brimming with heat and restraint.
He turns to face the window, his back to you, his shoulders tense. You can see the muscles in his back ripple under the fabric of his shirt, and it drives a new kind of hunger in you—an ache deep in your chest. You know what he means, feel the same pull, the same desperate desire. But you’re not sure how much longer you can wait for him to make the first move.
“Why don’t you just let go?” you challenge softly, your voice a little daring, a little breathless. “You don’t have to fight it anymore. I’m here.”
Ashton spins back around to face you, his eyes dark and stormy, his body vibrating with tension. The look in his eyes sends a shiver of anticipation down your spine. Without another word, he closes the distance between you in a heartbeat, his hands gripping the sides of your face, tilting your head back with a fierce urgency.
And then, he kisses you.
It’s not soft. It’s not gentle. It’s desperate, hungry, a collision of lips and heat. His mouth crashes against yours, his hands pulling you to him so fast that you gasp. The kiss is bruising, intense, every part of him demanding and consuming. His tongue slips into your mouth, stroking and tasting, as if he’s trying to drink you in.
You kiss him back with everything inside you, your hands finding their way to his chest, fingers digging into the fabric of his shirt, pulling him even closer. His breath is ragged against your lips, each exhale a sound of frustration and want. You can feel the muscles in his arms tense, like he’s holding back from doing something more, something that might break you both apart in the best way.
His hands slide down your back, pulling you flush against him, and the heat of his body makes your heart race. You can feel him—feel the hard, undeniable evidence of how much he wants you. The tension between your bodies is explosive, and it’s all you can do not to completely lose yourself in him.
Ashton pulls away for a split second, his forehead resting against yours, both of you panting, trying to catch your breath. “I need you,” he breathes, the words barely a whisper, but they strike like lightning in the stillness of the room. “God, I can’t think about anything else. All I can think about is you.”
You exhale shakily, your hands trailing down his chest, the desire between you two more than you can handle. The pressure is building, and you know you’re both on the edge of something that could consume you both completely.
Without thinking, you tug at the hem of his shirt, pulling it up over his head. The moment the fabric leaves his body, you feel the warmth of his skin under your fingertips, and your body responds instantly, an electric pulse running through you.
Ashton lets out a low, tortured sound at the touch, and his hands fly to your waist, pulling you closer, if that’s even possible, the heat between you intensifying. His lips are on you again—this time slower, deeper, more insistent as his hands slide up your back, guiding you into a rhythm that matches the frantic beat of your heart.
"Don’t hold back," you breathe against his lips, your hands gripping the sides of his face as you pull him closer. "Not now. Not ever."
The words break something inside him. Ashton groans against your lips, a sound of raw need, and the last of his restraint shatters. He kisses you again, this time with an intensity that feels like it might set you both on fire. His hands roam across your body, every touch, every caress setting your skin alight. He’s not asking anymore—he’s taking, and you’re giving, both of you drowning in the raw need of it all.
The world outside doesn’t matter anymore. All that matters is Ashton. The heat, the need, the burning tension between you. It’s everything. And as his hands slide under your shirt, you know, without a doubt, that nothing will ever feel as electric as this.
Series Masterlist
“Careful, angel” You could hear the smile in his voice dripping with condescending sarcasm “We don’t want you to get hurt”
Still, you kicked and fought and bit and yelled “fire” hoping anyone could hear and come and help, but the music was too loud and you were at least ninety percent sure the walls were soundproof. You could not see anything besides the darkness of the velvet inside of the - you guessed - bag over your head. Your heels dug into the ground as the minions Ashton probably hired from the slums tried to drag you away.
“Get the fuck away from me!”
“Motherfuck-!” One of them yelled after you sunk your teeth deep into his hand. You smiled at the faintest taste of blood that lingered on your tongue. If you were going down, at least they’d know you fought back.
Ashton rolled his eyes with a sigh “You know,” He said “You used to be fun”
“Fun?!” You yelled turning your head toward where you thought he was, still dragging your feet as two pairs of arms dragged you “I would show you fun, you sick son of a-”
“Ah-ah better be careful with your next words, angel” Ashton tutted. You felt his breath next to your ear, goosebumps jumping up on your skin as he leaned down and whispered “We both know you like it”
At that point, you were hoping you had a bag over your head so that he would miss the way your cheeks flamed up at his proximity. But if you had to guess, he probably wore a devilish smirk right now, and oh, how you wanted the satisfaction to erase it completely.
“GODFUCK-” You smiled as you heard Ashton’s groan in pain after you kneeled him near his crotch.
“Oops”
Soon, your wrists were grabbed by one of his hands, pulling you closer to him. You could feel his heartbeat next to yours as he took off the covering of your face.
Hazel, angry eyes were staring right at yours, you didn’t dare look away. You couldn’t. His gaze scanned your face, lingering a second too long on your lips before his stare found yours again, looking back with something hidden in them, something that made your breath get caught up in your lungs the second you noticed the soft caressing of his thumb against the skin of your wrist. It was a challenge, it had to be. You knew Ashton’s tricks too well to fall for them so easily. But having him so close made you realize exactly why it seemed so thoughtless to give it all away.
“Why do you have to be so difficult?” He asked, words like velvet coming out of his mouth.
“I don’t know,” You answered, staring back at him with anger “Why do you have to be such an asshole?”
Ashton chuckled, “Ouch, and I thought we were getting along”
Suddenly, you felt someone yank you from his grasp and carry you over their shoulders to the exit. You kicked and screamed, but all was fruitless as you were thrown inside a car where they tied up your wrists and ankles, and covered your face with another blindfold.
“Believe me, angel. I had no intentions of tying you up this soon” Ashton’s voice came floating as you felt the seat next to you dip under his weight. You scoffed in annoyance.
“Bite me, Irwin”
“Don’t threaten me with a good time, love” He said “And try and keep quiet, alright? Don’t make me gag you… Unless you want to”
The car started moving, and just like that, you were completely at his mercy.
*
During the whole car ride, you were completely silent and still. You didn’t even give him the satisfaction of breathing hard, and you knew you were driving him crazy. Well, if the consistent sound of tapping his fingers on his knee told you anything, that is. You had to repress a smile at that.
Ashton liked the chase and fight. You noticed it the second you saw that glint in his eyes. One does not get the name Lucifer by playing fair and liking it.
“Turn over here,” He told the driver “Take the next exit and then straight home”
You rolled your eyes. Of course, he didn’t want you to know where he lived or how to get there, it was all part of the protocol your father used with all of his associates as well. How many times have the driver picked you up from school and a random man was sitting at the back with a bag over his head and his hands bound with tape if anything?
But you’ve already sold your life to the devil. You promised everything he requested to save Luke from whatever hellhole he was caught up with. You trusted him despite yourself because no one else would’ve helped you due to the nature of your last name. Ashton knew this. He knew that you weren’t going to betray him, you couldn’t even if you wanted to while your brother was nowhere to be found. So what was all this circus? Was it just to humiliate you further?
“Someone’s awfully quiet over there” He taunted. You said nothing “Aww, cat’s got your tongue, angel?”
You kicked what you hoped was his seat and heard him laugh quietly. Your cheeks burn red as you bite your tongue from ever answering him. There will be nothing left to say until he starts helping you with the search.
Sometime later, the car came to a halt. You heard how Ashton’s men got out of the vehicle, feeling how it got lighter once they did. You were still sitting in place, not moving unless moved to become more of an inconvenience for anyone because they knew that if they tried to touch you, some of the bruises you left on them might become worse.
That’s until you felt a familiar grasp on your arm.
You tried to hit him once again, but Ashton was pulling you from a distance of a few steps ahead of you. He took you up some stairs and you heard a big door closing behind you. Suddenly, the light came through.
“Now, listen,” Ashton said as your eyes adjusted to the light and the new environment “I don’t want any funny business here, you got it?”
Your head was reeling too hard to even speak. Your eyes started to look around, familiarizing yourself with this new threat. The two of you were standing in a grand entrance lobby, the main staircase not too far behind in the room. There were guards on each door, some even waiting with firearms in their hands, ready to draw. The marble floors decorated the room with elegance, nothing you wouldn’t expect from someone in this line of business.
But what really impressed you was the size of this mansion. Of course, you had your fair share of them, coming from a big, important family, it was nothing new. But knowing that Ashton lived there alone… it sure felt lonely.
Yet, you barely had time to ponder on that as Ashton grabbed you by the arm again and dragged you up the stairs.
“You are never to leave this room, understood?”
“What?”
He opened up a door, practically throwing you inside and making you lose your footage.
“This door stays unlocked for me at all times” He sternly ordered “Don’t get in my way, don’t bother me, and don’t come looking for me. If you do, somebody better be dead or I’ll make sure they will be”
Ashton slammed the door after that, leaving you completely alone.
Immediately, you ran to the door, but when you opened it you found two guards standing with their broad backs facing you, both of them with guns.
You groaned and slammed the door shut. Falling to your knees as you desperately and angrily wiped away the tears that could not stop falling. You cursed Ashton’s name over and over again, hitting the ground until your knuckles were scraped and started to bleed a little bit. By then, almost all of your anger was contained and you were left feeling numb once again.
You stood up and cradled your hands with each other, looking around the green sage-painted room. The door of the bathroom was opened, so you went in to clean up the dirt and blood from your hands and fingertips. You noticed it had a bathtub; and towels; and the cabinet was filled with ibuprofen, bandages, and a first aid kit.
You looked back into the room and also noticed how the sheets were new, and the blankets over them were placed perfectly aligned with the pillows. You rummaged through the closet and found different outfits mostly consisting of sweatpants, hoodies, workout clothes, and a set of pajamas. The realization that Ashton got someone to get the room ready for you while you were driving to his house caught you by surprise.
Still, a cage was still a cage no matter how fancy it seemed.
The next thing you did was try to get to the windows, but as you suspected they were nailed shut and made with bulletproof glass.
“Smart,” You thought “You win this round, Irwin”
Suddenly, the antics of the day caught up with you as you let yourself fall into the sheets and the bed. You didn’t know how or when, but when you woke up, you were tucked underneath the blankets.
*
The next morning Ashton woke up with a major headache. His mouth was dry and his hair was sticking out in various directions. He got out of bed with a groan and with the everyday motivation coming from the smell of coffee coming from the kitchen.
But his thoughts are quickly scrambled by loud knocks at the door.
“Fuck… What?!” He shouted, rubbing his eyes, still trying to wake up.
“Sir?” One of his bodyguards talked through the other side of the door “I- uh. I’m afraid something’s happened… eh, with the guest. She- she’s not in her room, sir”
“WHAT?!
Immediately, Ashton was out of bed and putting on his sweatpants, grabbing the gun that slept next to him on his bedside table. He opened the door and put the front sight up against the guard’s neck and under his chin, making the man gulp when he saw the anger in his boss’ eyes.
“Say that again” He demanded.
“Th-the- the maid went to give her br-br-breakfast but the girl was not-”
Ashton rolled his eyes and murmured a “Fucking idiot,” before he went up to check up on the room across the hall.
Empty.
“Shit,” He cursed, punching the door frame and turning toward his crew “I want eyes on every fucking room in this house. The pool. The garden. The fucking sheds! Not a single rock left untouched! That’s Y/N Hemmings we’re talking about!”
“And if we find her?”
“When you find her you bring her to me. I’ll deal with her”
The men scurried quickly, leaving Ashton shirtless and alone in the hall. He cursed out loud and headed toward his office to check the cameras. Surely, if his idiot guards could not handle you, you still mustn't've gone too far-
Ashton backtracked a little bit, turning toward the door of the office and opening it completely. You almost laughed at his face when he saw you sitting there in front of his computer. But you quickly decided to ignore it and just go back to work. He has you trapped, but that does not mean you owe him any interactions.
“What the fuck are you doing?” He asked.
You noticed how his chest was rising and falling with anger he tried to keep at bay. The scars that adorned his skin seemed to come alive at that. His eyes were trained on you, waiting for an explanation.
“Starting the investigation” You shrugged.
“How did you-?”
“Please, I still remember your mum’s birthday. You’re the type of man who would use that as his password. I didn’t need to try that hard”
Ashton saw red at your comment. He slammed the gun to the desk and grabbed you by the arm, surely leaving bruises as he dragged you out.
You started to fight, punching him wherever you could. But he suddenly stopped and grabbed your other wrist with his hand, twisting it a little bit, just enough to make you complain and to stop your attempts to hurt him.
In his eyes, you could see the reason why people say he’s the angel of death. There was nothing but anger and hatred as he looked at you. It scared you for a moment, but it wasn’t going to make you run away.
“You said you would help me” You spat at him.
“I never said I would make it my priority”
“You motherfuck-” You cursed him out, trying to escape his grasp but it was useless. Yesterday he might’ve been playing a little bit, but now he was showing you his real strength.
Ashton shoved you back into your room, not even looking as he said “Change of plans, since you want to be a brat, you’ll be treated as one”
Then, he slammed the door and you heard the lock being put on.
You ran up to it, banging on it and fiddling with the knob to no avail. You cursed out his name and yelled at him, demanding to be let out.
“WE HAD A DEAL!” You’d shout until your voice gave out, but it all fell on deaf ears.
What have you gotten into?
*
Hours later, while you’re trying your best to pick the lock of the windows, the door opens.
“That’s not going to work, you know?” A kind voice said, “Believe me, I’ve tried”
You turned around to find the blond girl from the bar. She was smiling at you, leaning against the door frame. But the way she smiled… It seemed too familiar. Then, it hit you.
“Lauren,” You breathed her name, she laughed.
“About time you remember me!” Lauren said, walking into the room and sitting over the bed, patting the spot next to her “I almost thought you forgot about me”
“It’s not that,” You said, complying and sitting beside her “It’s just- wow, you were so little the last time we saw each other. And now…”
“I know, right? The glow-up did me good” She joked “And so it did to you. When you gave me your name yesterday, I must admit it took me a while. But when I noticed how my brother started to act…”
You rolled your eyes at her comment about Ashton “So being her prisoner is special treatment?”
“Having him agree to help you is special treatment. You know how he is”
But that was the thing, you didn’t. You’ve known of him, of his reputation, of his deeds. But Ashton Irwin was a complete stranger to you. Whoever that person at the end of the hall was, he was far away from the boy you used to know.
“Are you-?” You cleared your throat, not knowing how to ask the question.
“In the family business?” Lauren finished for you “No, I’m only working at the bar and as Ashton's assistant for a few months. Took a sabbatical from uni. Harry is also going there but he’s more applied to his studies” She laughed “Ashton never wanted us involved, even made us change our last name for a while so we don’t get connected to him or all of this.”
“I’m glad,” You smiled. “I would’ve done the same thing if I had younger siblings. My brother’s did try it with me, though. But, you know” You looked at her, and something flashed in her eyes “You look a lot like her”
“I know,” Lauren smiled at you, putting her hand over yours “And, I haven’t said it yet, but I truly am sorry about your brothers. It’s a shitty situation”
“Tell me about it,”
“But I know if anyone is going to find Luke, it’s Ashton” She assured you “And, don’t tell him this? But I did have a little girl crush on Luke way back when. So I really do hope you’ll find him”
You laughed at that, promising to keep quiet “Be honest with me, Lauren. Am I doing the right thing by trusting Ashton?”
She sighed “If I’m being honest, I would tell you that you already know never to trust anyone in this line of work. But as someone who knows Ash, and knows everything he’s been through and done… He’s a good guy, Y/N. Or at least better than the rest”
You nodded, understanding what she meant. Yet, your heart was still doubting. Still worried you made the wrong choice by coming to him.
“Oh, and before I forget,” Lauren said, getting up and handing you an old cellphone, “Ash told me to give you this”
“What for?”
“Communication, emergencies. You name it. It only has his number on it, but I snuck mine before he could notice” She gave you a wink “Talk to you later, okay?”
“Hey, Lauren?” You called for her before she left “Thank you. Thank you for everything”
The girl smiled and closed the door, leaving you alone with your thoughts and that old phone in your hands. So you decided to test it.
Me: Couldn’t you have found one phone from this generation?
Ashton: They can easily be tracked. You know that.
Ashton: So, sorry if you wanted games installed.
Me: Are you going to let me out so I can continue with the investigation?
Ashton: Are you going to be a good girl for me and do as I tell you to?
The redness of your cheeks went up to your ears. Groaning as you read that message.
Me: Fuck you, Irwin.
Ashton: Still with that attitude, angel? Too bad, I was going to ask you what you wanted for dinner. Guess the chef will skip that request, then.
Me: I will be caught dead before having dinner with you.
Ashton: Good. We can finally benefit each other, then.
You threw the phone against the wall, denting it a little bit with no damage done to the phone. This was going to be a long day.
*
It was 2 AM when the sound of the door banging against the wall woke you up.
“Get up,” Ashton’s voice rang through your head as you sat up “We’re leaving”
“What?”
He was standing in the middle of the room dressed in an all-black suit, his hair was pushed back, leaving just a wild stand of honey-colored curls to fall upon his forehead. To anyone else, it would seem he was headed to a party, but you knew that could not be the case. He scoffed, already annoyed.
“Are you deaf?” He asked, cocking his gun without even meeting your eyes “I said get up, we’re leaving. Now”
“I’m not going anywhere with you”
Finally, he looked up at you, refusing to accept the challenge that you presented to him.
“I don’t think you understand, angel-”
“Don’t call me-”
But before you could finish your sentence, he took two long strides to your bed and put the gun right up your forehead, fingertips on the trigger.
“When I say you jump, you ask how high. If I tell you to move, you move. This isn’t daddy’s little playground where you can make the rules, princess. I’m in charge here. You work for me. You belong to me. Understood?”
You said nothing, staring directly at him with all the hatred you felt for him at that moment. His hazel eyes mirrored yours, feeling nothing but disgust under his gaze. Yet, you knew he was serious.
“I don’t like to repeat myself, angel. But for you I’ll make an exception” He said gravely “Understood?”
“Yes,” You said through gritted teeth.
Ashton put away his gun, snapping his fingers. Never taking his eyes off you as a maid brought a change of clothes into the room. It was a long-sleeved, black cotton shirt; a pair of black cargo pants; a multipurpose belt; and a can of pepper spray.
“What’s this?” You asked, picking up the tiny can.
“You’re going to blend in with my security team”
“Then shouldn’t I be carrying a gun as well?”
Ashton laughed, “Nice try, angel”
“Irwin, I’m serious! How am I supposed to protect myself with just this?!”
“Then I guess we’ll figure it out,” He said, sparing one last look at you. “I expect you to be downstairs in five minutes”
“What if-”
“Try me. Just once and you’ll see what I’m capable of”
He left the room, leaving you alone huffing and rolling your eyes at the image of him that once was there. But, having no other option, you did as you told.
Downstairs, a couple more guards were standing with Ashton at the door. You noticed a black Range Rover ready to go just outside. One of the guards came toward you, a bag in his hand. You stopped him.
“Is that really necessary?” Ashton raised his brow, and you rolled your eyes “It’s the middle of the night, Irwin. It’s not like I would see much anyway”
The guard looked back at his boss, shrugging. Ashton looked back at you, eyes hard as steel. He didn’t say a word, just turned around and started walking to the car. For a moment, you smiled to yourself for that small victory.
You sat in the back in the middle of two guards, Ashton went up the passenger seat. You frowned. It was not normal for someone that important in this line of work to be in such plain sight. But then again, the glass and the whole car were bulletproof, and the windows were tinted black. And, to top it all off, everyone knew not to fuck up with Lucifer himself if they weren’t ready to face the consequences firsthand. After all, only a fool would try to kill death.
“One of the alarms went off at the club,” Ashton said before you could ask him “Someone tried to break into the offices, killing one of mine.”
That answers the way he was dressed, although you guessed that no matter the occasion, he would dress the part. Still, it didn’t seem like a big deal to wake all of you up in the middle of the night. You’ve walked the hidden halls of the club before, you knew they were well-guarded and with the right security system installed. Ashton surely had the right people to take care of all that. Unless…
“Lauren?” You asked, letting the worry slip in your words.
Ashton barely moved his head, you assumed that hearing the name of his sister come from you must’ve surprised him a bit.
“She’s fine,” He said, dryly “I don’t- She doesn’t work there unless I’m with her”
You nodded. Smart choice from him. Yet, that doesn’t explain why you had to come at this time. But when asked about it, Ashton just gave you the silent treatment until you got there.
Once you were parked, Ashton went out of the car almost immediately, leaving you and his men to follow him.
“Call Clifford,” He ordered to the group of men standing at the door “I don’t care if you have to drag him out of his bed, remind him of the favors he owes me” He turned to another guard “You. I want the list of names of the people that came in yesterday and tonight. I want a background check on their families as well. As for you…”
“Sir, everything was accounted for. Nothing was stolen. Our team is looking for hidden mics and cameras as we speak”
“I don’t fucking care if they took anything or not” He spat “I want to know, how the fuck did they manage to get in the first place?!”
“Sir-”
“No, you listen here” Ashton threatened, just inches away from that man’s face “I’m going in there, and you better pray to your pitiful god that we don’t find anything. If I do, if I even hear about someone who did, you bet your little sorry ass that there will be hell to pay. Starting with you. Don’t make me the villain just because you don’t know how to do your job. Don’t play with me because you will find me, and that will be the last thing you do”
You stood there, shivering. If that was because of the chilly wind or Ashton’s words, you didn’t know, nor were you particularly excited to find out either. Seeing him angry was nothing new to you by now, but it was entirely different seeing his anger aimed at someone else.
Ashton dismissed his men, turning back on his heel and walking up to you. The two men that were by your side rapidly scurried away, leaving you on your own with the devil.
“Anything you want to tell me, angel?” He asked, eyes set on yours.
“What?” You scoffed “You think I had anything to do with this?”
“All I know is that you randomly appeared at my door less than 36 hours ago with some sob, pathetic story, asking for help. And now people have tried to break in”
You couldn’t help but let out a breathy, insincere laugh. Yet, Ashton remained as serious as ever.
“You’re kidding,” You stated “I’ve broken all ties with my family. You know this. Why else would I ask for your help?”
“Because all Hemmings lie, angel,” Ashton said, taking a step closer to you “That’s all they do. And don’t think for a second I believe every word that comes out of your mouth just because you come here with sad eyes, demanding help. I’ve taken a risk by even considering helping you-”
“Then why did you? Why did you say you were going to do it?”
You asked out of genuine curiosity. If helping you was “such a huge risk” for Ashton, then why did he even accept it in the first place? Still, he gave you nothing with his silence.
His eyes were dark, familiar to the boy you once knew, but at the same time so far away from the memory you once held. It was impossible to get a read on him, to know what he was thinking at any given time. He was just standing there, merely a whisper away from you, yet so distant. He was a man with no conscience, no soul, and no mercy.
“I didn’t lie to you,” You told him after a while “I just want to find my brother”
Ashton contemplated you for a moment “And if I refuse to offer any help?”
“Then I will find someone who will” You lied, knowing that no one but him would be able to help you. But hoping Ashton would believe it enough not to question it “You tell me to go and I’ll leave, right? So I’ll be out of your hair if you’re so scared that I might do something”
Your intention was never to walk away, but you knew exactly what buttons to push to get a reaction out of him. And, sure enough, you didn’t walk even one step before his hand grabbed you by the wrist and turned your body around, chest colliding with his, face to face.
He held your wrist at the level of his eye, watching intently over you, trying to decide whether or not to believe you.
“You’re getting on my last nerve, angel,” He said, quietly but with a hint of a threat lacing his words.
Your eyes shifted due to his proximity, going from that hazel color of his eyes to the pinkness of his lips. You caught yourself at the last second, focusing on the chain that hung from his neck over his chest. But the smirk he gave you let you know that he caught you staring.
“Like anything you see, angel?”
You rolled your eyes “You’re impossible, Irwin”
“Maybe,” He said, a smile present in his voice as he lowered his head and whispered in your ear “But as you said, I’m your only hope”
“I didn’t-”
“SIR!” A man yelled behind you. Both turned toward him “We found something-!”
Suddenly, all you could hear was the sound of a gunshot followed by the thud the guard’s body made when it hit the floor.
Ashton turned around quickly, pushing you behind him as he tried to grab his gun from his pocket. It all happened so quickly, that you didn’t even notice the second shot being fired until Ashton groaned and grabbed the side of his arm.
You acted quickly, grabbing Ashton’s gun from his pocket as you started to fire it in the direction where you assumed the shooter was. You pulled Ashton from the back of his collar, awkwardly maneuvering him to safety while you kept shooting until you hit the back of a building. You pushed Ashton against the wall, watching briefly as he sunk to the ground while you tried to focus.
Most of your body was hidden behind that brick wall, but your periphery gave you enough balance to locate the threat. You watched a shadow run from the roof of the club to the alleyway beside it. The guns from both your parts kept shooting bullets in your direction, neither of them hitting the target.
The shadow then jumped on the hood of a car onto the passenger seat. The sound of the tires burning against the floor hurt your ears, and the headlights lit up as they sped away. And, just like that, they were gone.
Your ears kept ringing while you tried to stabilize your breathing. The beating of your heart was going ten thousand miles per hour as the reality of what just happened sunk in. But, what the hell happened?
“What happened?” You whispered to no one in particular “We were just-”
The dryness of your throat forced you to keep quiet. The truth was, you never experienced cross-fire before. You knew how to shoot a gun because your brothers taught you against your mother’s wishes. You knew the basic steps you needed to follow in case there was a shooting. Yet, this was the first time you shot someone - or against someone - and the fact that you couldn’t tell if the shaking of your hands came from fear or adrenaline disturbed you a little.
“Angel,”
You blinked, seemingly being pulled back to earth with his voice.
Ashton was sitting next to you, panting as his hand covered the side of his upper arm. He looked up at you, but the hatred you once saw in his eyes was now replaced by some sort of mischievous gleam. He was grinning at you.
“Well done,” Was all he said before a hiss escaped his lips.
“Oh my god, Ash” You kneeled by his side “I’m sorry, I-”
“It’s fine,” He said, trying to move “I’m fine, the bullet didn’t even - fuck. It didn’t even hit, barely grazed me-”
You rolled your eyes, grabbing the buttons of his jacket and opening them to slide it off.
“Take a guy out for a drink first” He joked as you started to open up his shirt “Although, I can’t say that I mind-”
“For fuck’s sake, Ash. I’m trying to see where the bullet hit you!”
From your position, you couldn’t just shrug off his sleeve. So you grabbed his shoulder and pulled him from the wall, accidentally letting go too early and leaving his head to bounce off the wall by the effect.
“I told you, I’m fi-fiaaagh- The fuck is wrong with you?!”
“Sorry,” You cringed, trying to locate his wound “I can’t see it properly…”
Ashton then swiftly pulled you from your hips into his lap, sitting you properly before he raised his arm and bent it with his hand behind his head.
“Better?” He asked, breathing in deeply from the pain.
You stared at him, perplexed by his actions. But then you shook your head and located the wound, trying your hardest to ignore that you were sitting in Ashton Iriwin’s lap.
His other hand danced over the side of your knee, never touching it, but barely grazing it with his fingertips. His eyes were set on every move you made, never leaving your face. When you noticed it, he smiled at the slight blush that covered your cheeks.
“So,” You said, calmly “Are you going to give me a proper gun now, Irwin?”
“I’ll consider it”
“What? I basically saved your life!”
“You have a poor technique” He shrugged “I can give you some proper points later”
“Proper points?”
Ashton then grabbed his gun from beside you, took out the bullets, and pointed it at you.
“You see this?” He said, “This is how you grabbed the gun, one misfire and you’d be out a finger, angel. You’re lucky my guns are well-calibrated. But we’ll go over that later”
“Sure,” You said, giving him a small laugh in disbelief “Well, you’re lucky that bullet barely left a cut. We- You should go disinfect it before it catches anything”
“I’ll survive then,” Ashton said, lowering his arm and letting it rest on your bent ankle. caressing the skin.
“For now, Irwin”
“Ash,” He said.
“Huh?”
“Earlier you called me “Ash” It’s the first time that I’ve heard it”
“Well, I thought you were dying, so…”
You gave him a small smile that he returned, his fingers still touching your skin as his eyes never left yours.
“We should-” You stammered “We should head back, see if anyone else is injured?”
“So that you could call Peter, “Pete” if he got himself a boo-boo?” You groaned as you rolled your eyes and got off his lap, starting to walk toward the club “I was joking!”
*
Soon, you and Ashton and a couple of guys from his security team were scuttering the roof from where the shadow started to shoot. There was nothing there that could lead them to anything or anyone. It was completely deserted.
“And you’re sure you’ve watched someone run-”
“Yes!” You repeated for the thousandth time, giving them a walkthrough “I saw them appear over here, and then run toward the alleyway. They jumped and got into a car, someone was already waiting there”
Ashton hummed, “We’re going to review the footage, and see if we can trace the license plate or the type of car they were using. That would narrow the list”
“A lot of enemies, Iriwn?”
Ashton shook his head “I don’t think I have anything to do with this, angel”
“What do you mean?”
He walked over to you where the shadow allegedly started shooting. He turned you around and pointed to the two guards that were marking where the two of you had stood before the shooting.
“Tell me when you see it,” He whispered to you.
You scoffed. There was nothing left to see. The man who was supposed to be Ashton is with his back exposed to the shooter while the one representing you was barely in sight. They could’ve easily-
And then it hit you.
They could’ve easily shot Ashton in the back of his neck. But they didn’t.
Ashton was not their target.
You were.
Mistletoe (a.i.)
notes: just some xmas time fluff 🥰
Warnings: none
xxx
"Y/N", your friend Crystal poked your shoulder and you turned to look at her.
You had been watching some of your friends try to figure out a card game but Crystal took your attention with a nod towards the door that connected the living room to the entrance hall.
Ashton was standing there, leaning on the door frame with a glass of what seemed to be juice in hand.
His dirty blonde hair was illuminated by the light shining in the hall, making him look like there was a halo around him. His eyes crinkled as he also watched your friends play games, the hazel in them shimmering.
You raised your eyebrows at Crystal, trying to stay calm. God, why was he always so beautiful? He was just standing there, but he looked beautiful.
"Look at the door", Crystal whispered when you looked back at her again.
"No, higher up", she whispered when you looked at the side of the door frame that Ashton wasn't leaning on.
Higher up, right above him, was something green. Oh, absolutely not!
"Come onnn!", the tall brunette next to you gave you a light shove.
"Crystal, no", you took a step closer towards the couch, thus away from him.
"If not now then when?"
You bit your lip, knowing she was right. But you couldn't just -
"We'll say I forced you if it goes wrong"
Damn Crystal and her stupid smart ideas.
"But I -"
"Just a harmless Christmas tradition"
Your feet wouldn't budge though. Crystal kept explaining her master plan to you, while your mind was running in circles: What if someone saw? What if you tried to do it and he pulled away and you just ran into the door?
No, it was now or never, you could blame Crystal.
You took a deep breath, one last glance towards the couches to make sure no one was paying attention and before you could attempt to change your mind, you started putting one foot in front of the other.
Crystal was whisper cheering behind you and you were blushing before you even reached him.
He was intently watching your friends - Michael and Luke were currently trying to tear cards out of each other's hands - not noticing you. His tall figure loomed over you - even the underside of his jaw was beautiful.
Okay, you couldn't just stand here, waiting until he noticed you or worse, the others would.
"A- Ash?", you couldn't even get his full name out, your voice breaking on just the three letters.
You gulped when he looked at you, trying your best not to freeze under his hazel gaze. In your mind you heard Crystal cheering you on and you did it.
Pushing yourself on your tip toes to reach him, you leaned forward, almost losing your balance and falling into his chest in the process, and quickly pressed your lips against his.
Barely one or two seconds went by, then you rushed past him and down the hallway. What were you thinking? More importantly, what now?
"Ash! I spent hours - hey!", Michael was complaining loudly.
Then you heard footsteps quickly coming closer. Not good, really not good.
"Y/N", you suppressed an embarassed whimper when he called your name. He'd only said it a few times before as you always kept your distance a little.
You were ready to apologize when you turned around but the words got stuck in your throat yet again. He had that expression on his face.
The one where his eyes lit up, they were big, almost innocent, and glistening. His lips were slightly parted - you wanted to squeek from how cute he looked... or maybe faint.
He slowly took two more steps, so he was standing right in front of you and you had to lift your head again to meet his eyes. He tilted his head, not saying anything either, while his gaze slid over your face.
"Why did you rush away?"
You shrugged, averting your eyes to where your toes almost touched. Your face could've probably been used to cook eggs on when you felt his fingertips under your chin, lifting it until you looked into his eyes again.
"Sorry", you mumbled but he shook his head, his dimples indenting his cheeks when he smiled now.
"I didn't even get to feel it and you were already running off... Oh"
The sound was so badly acted, fake surprise displaying on his face paired with that cheeky grin. You followed his gaze to where he was looking at something above you.
"You're literally holding that up"
"No, I'm not", he grinned. His hand was above you, holding a clearly ripped up piece from the mistletoe in the door frame above your head.
"Sucks but what can you do", he sighed dramatically, his dimples getting deeper and deeper.
He waited until you couldn't help but smile back, then he bent down to your height, giving you enough time to pull away, but you didn't.
When his lips touched yours again and his hand carefully cupped your cheek, you felt like falling to the floor.
His lips felt raw but soft at the same time, warm and comforting. His body, the hand on your face, the other carefully tapping your own hand and intertwining your fingers - you'd never felt anything as wonderful as this.
There was nothing rushed about this kiss, time stopped for you to savour this moment.
Neither of you tried to change that or even wanted to and when you finally pulled apart, you could see the same heat you felt in your own face covering his. Ashton's cheeks were reddened, even the tip of his nose slightly blushing.
"And you couldn't have done that without ruining my expensive decorations?"
Ashton picked up the piece of mistletoe that had at some point fallen to the floor and while he threw it back at Michael, laughing when his friend kept complaining, you could see Crystal making excited gestures behind her husband.
When his fingertips danced down your wrist and linked your fingers with his, you were thankful that she had convinced you to go for it and kiss him.
songbird. [A.I.]
“and I love you, I love you, I love you— like never before.”
a restless night and troubled mind, Ashton helps you back to sleep with a lullaby.
a/n: some sweet sweet nothings to make up for lost time. (this was supposed to be only fluff but my friends are enablers) life’s been giving me hell, holy shit— but anyone who knows me personally knows how much this song means to me :) enjoy!! (this is also not proofread i just rlly wanted to publish something!)
CW: very very brief mention of anxiety, good ol’ lovin’, touchin’, squeezin, brief making out, c*ckwarming, slight praise kink.
WORDCOUNT: ~2.5k
⋆⁺₊⋆ ☾⋆⁺₊⋆
The clock in your bedroom wouldn’t stop ticking. It never usually stopped, but tonight it was more of an issue than normal. Ash was sleeping peacefully beside you, his arm acting as your headrest as his other hand fell limp in yours.
The two of you fell asleep like this every single night without fail. No matter how hard the days were, how long the nights were or how early either of you had to wake up in the morning, it was always this. Your head on his chest, towards the crook of his shoulder, hand in hand.
You tried to listen to the gentle thumping of his heartbeat, something to drown out the obnoxious ticking that made you want to just toss that dumb thrift store alarm clock out of the window. Every single attempt to close your eyes and lull yourself to sleep was futile, and you didn’t want to move in fear of waking Ashton up.
This was quite a tough situation. You wished that you could maybe play some music or browse your phone but again, you wouldn’t be able to live with yourself if you stirred your sleepy boyfriend out of his sweet, sweet dreams.
It had come to a point where staring out into the darkness was doing you no good. Your mind was moving a mile a minute and your body felt awake enough to run laps around your apartment. You had to do something, something you absolutely hated to do.
“Ashton?”
You whisper softly, close enough to his face but still too lowly for any sign of alertness. His chest rose and fell, his breathing mellow.
“Ash? Baby—”
You felt awful for even attempting this, but you remembered how Ashton had told you, very early on into your time living together, that if you needed anything, just to wake him. That memory puts your mind at ease.
A few more soft coos of his name eventually brought him to stir. He sucks in a deep breath, squeezing your hand tighter out of force of habit.
“Mmmh?”
You could see a smile tugging at his sleepy face, before his eyes fluttered open and met yours.
“Can’t sleep.”
“Angel,” His groggy voice is laced with dreams and stars, “why not?”
“Dunno’. I just—couldn’t fall asleep… couldn’t stop thinking.”
It was still dark in your shared bedroom, only the pale moonlight mixing with the warmer glow of a Himalayan salt lamp illuminated a single corner, the one closest to the window. Wafts of Patchouli caught your senses as Ashton twisted to face you, his features still dim in the night time.
“What’re you thinkin’ about? Have a bad dream?”
Poor Ashton. You could tell just how tired he was by the way his words clustered into one, run-on sentence. Your heart strings pulled tighter as he fought to stay awake, to comfort you.
“Just things. Lots of things. Staring into the dark wasn’t helping my case.”
Ashton then untangles your hands, reaching up to caress the side of your cheek. His blistered fingertips cup your face, middle finger gently rubbing your temple.
“Wanna talk about it?”
“No,” you whisper, “just— wanted you here.”
Ashton chuckles, his body still warm from being woken up as he leans in to brush the tip of his nose against yours.
“You’re lucky I love you more than anything,” he mumbles, brushing against your lips and making you shiver, “because I value sleep quite a lot.”
“I know you do. That’s why I felt so bad waking you,” you sigh, eventually bridging the miniscule gap and placing a gentle kiss onto his Cupid’s bow.
He breaks away, and you could slightly see the shimmer in his mossy eyes catch the moonbeams from the window. Your entire body felt fuzzy, like there was nothing in the world that could pull you from this moment.
“Y’ need anything? A glass of water? Want me to rub your back?”
He seemed more awake now, after taking a moment to tense up and stretch out his arm beneath your head. You moved with him, simply because you’d rather die than leave his arms.
Instead of responding to his tender question, you kiss him again. A lightning bolt of electricity shoots through your veins like you’d kissed him for the very first time. No matter how many kisses you’d give him in this lifetime, it always felt the same.
Your lips lock effortlessly, his tongue lazily tangling with yours as he pulls you tighter into his chest.
“A kiss, huh?” Ashton’s words bounce off of you, “That’s all you needed?”
You take a deep breath, and for some reason the thought of not kissing him for a third time made you upset. You were oddly vulnerable this late at night, all you wanted was to be close to him.
“You alright, angel? You’re all lovey dovey. Usually you’re a little demon this late at night. I can’t win with you.”
A soft chuckle shakes Ashton’s chest, your fingertips drumming along it.
“Thought I’d switch it up. I’ll let you be the crabby one tonight.”
Ashton scoffs, “Crabby? You kiddin’ me? When you kissed me just then— ‘thought I was still dreaming.”
“You’re not mad I woke you?” You ask, tugging at the collar of his t-shirt.
“Not at all.”
In one swift motion, Ashton is pulling you to lay on top of him, your legs straddling either side of his hips. But the act itself isn’t sexually driven, there’s no eagerness or lust in this position. It was just a way to get you closer.
You press your cheek onto his shoulder, kissing at his neck as he cranes it for better access. Your movements are tender and loving, with Ashton’s hands running up and down your back and moving your sweatshirt along with it.
“Cold?” He asks, and you can feel his body rumble with laughter when you nod yes.
“Is it always this cold in here? God, I’m freezing.”
“Oh hush. If I turned the air down you’d wake up in a pool of sweat and be grumpy in the morning. Sleeping in the cold is better for your body, anyway.”
“And who told you that?” You ask, trying to cuddle up to him to feed off of his warmth.
“Read it somewhere.”
You shake your head with a smile, letting the feeling of his rough palms lull you back into that peaceful state you were in before your mind ran off elsewhere.
The two of you sit still for a moment, Ashton attempting to do all of the things that help you fall asleep on any night where you get like this. He didn’t mind at all, he knew he’d sleep better if you were out cold beside him. He believed that waking up in the middle of the night to an empty side of the bed was worse than having to stay up those extra few minutes to help you back to sleep.
“Ash?” You break the silence, poking your head up to see his side profile.
“Yeah?”
“Sing for me?”
His chest shakes with laughter, the rubbing on your back coming to a slowdown.
“You want me to sing? Right now?”
“I wouldn’t be asking if not.”
With an apprehensive sigh, Ashton’s head sinks further into the pillows. He was no stranger to humming you back to sleep, or sitting at the foot of your bed and strumming out some obscure instrumental guitar piece while you took your mid-day nap. But it was late now, he didn’t want to disappoint you, yet he hadn’t quite enough energy to sing.
“If you don’t wanna, that’s fine. I know it’s late,” you say softly, pinching the fabric of his tee between two fingers.
He shakes his head, “No no, it’s not that I don’t want to, I just—”
You wait for him to finish his thought, still laying on his chest and listening to his heartbeat. But rather than completing his sentence, he begins to whistle.
You always knew how skilled Ashton’s lips were from kissing him alone, but whistling? This was news to you.
He began the tune of Songbird, by Fleetwood Mac, the high pitch sounds leaving his person truly resembling some sort of magical winged creature that was created specially to put you to sleep.
You cuddle back up to his chest, his broad palms squeezing your sides reassuringly then moving towards your ass— better believe he squeezed that too.
The air around you was growing tense. Now that you had Ashton awake beneath you, the closeness of your bodies piled onto one another still wasn’t close enough. You, unfortunately, needed to be closer.
As Ashton ends his song, you can feel his head pop up to check and see if his lullaby had won you over to the sandman. Unluckily for him, it didn’t.
“All that and you’re still awake?” he chuckles, his voice a bit froggy and coarse before he clears his throat, and continues to trace soothing circles onto your back.
You shake your head, a bit too sheepish to actually answer him with words. The feeling that was now clouding your mind seemed awfully embarrassing to have at two in the morning. Rather than speaking, having no better judgment to do so, you begin to faintly roll your hips against his groin.
“Baby—” Ashton giggles, an apprehensive warning.
“What? M’not doin’ anything.”
“Yes you are, you little minx. What’s on your mind?”
With the heaviest sigh you could muster, you lay your forehead flat onto his chest and continue to swivel your hips against him. You’d hoped that in your years of being with him, he was keen to read your mind.
“‘Wanna be closer to you.”
You had to give Ash credit for this, for his mind reading abilities were proven once again. The chaste kiss to the top of your head told you everything you needed to know as his hands slid from your spine all the way down to your backside.
“Could’ve just said so. You want me inside, don’t you?”
His suggestive words cause a shiver down your limbs, raising goosebumps on every single exposed surface of your flesh that were immediately remedied by his blistered palms.
“Yes, please—” you mumble, meekly pressing your cheek to his shirt.
“Don’t be embarrassed, my girl. Nothin’ to be ashamed of, yeah?”
If the lights were on in your bedroom, Ashton would see that your face looked about as hot as it felt. As you bumble awkwardly, Ashton ignores those minuscule, abashed whimpers and slowly starts to wiggle you out of your pajamas.
You move with him fluidly, lifting your hips to make things easier on him as he removes the pajama pants of his own; the two of you had a matching pair, which seemed fitting for the circumstances.
“I know you’re tired, angel— but you’ve gotta work with me okay?”
“I’m trying,” you plead, both of you giggling at the comfortable inhibitions of this scenario.
Once your lower half is completely bare, you lift yourself to sit upright. You could still see the slight shimmer in his eyes casted by moonbeams as his irises darted to follow your figure. He props his head up behind his elbow, ensuring the view.
The exchange is wordless, yet there’s a lot more fervor behind your actions as you slide his half-hard dick through the hole in his boxers. He grunts in approval, then hisses the moment you wrap your palm fully around him.
“Just like that, angel. Take it slow— ‘not in a rush or anythin’.”
You nod, your top teeth sunken into your bottom lip which was enough to stifle a moan as you lift your hips and drag his tip along your folds.
“Fuck,” Ashton groans, “you’re so fuckin’ wet baby. So ready. All this for me?”
“All— all for you,” you hum, stumbling over your words when he lifts his hips to prod at your slick entrance.
“Niiiice and easy. Just like that—” Ashton coaches you through the motions of lowering yourself onto his cock, his girth stretching you comfortably as you were already wet enough due to his caresses and kisses.
Once your pelvis reaches the base of him, a collective sigh engulfs the dimly lit bedroom. If only the lights were on. If only you had more energy to just ride him and get the both of you off. If only.
“Feelin’ good, angel? I must say, you look spectacular on my dick. As always.”
You push out a chuckle at his compliment, feeling too occupied by the feeling of him stretching your insides to even think, let alone fire off a witty retort. A moan catches in your throat when you try to change your position, his tip reaching your sweet spot the moment you attempt to lower yourself back down onto his chest.
“Lay back down. Just— relax. You’re doin’ so well.”
Your body eventually lays flat on top of him, his length still buried fully inside of you. You could feel him pulsing and twitching, your own walls clenching at the thought of just how intimate this experience was. He takes a hand to the nape of your neck, massaging your pulse point tepidly, then running those same fingers through your hair.
An elongated sigh leaves your chest as the two of you sit in silence; so relaxing, and sensual. You just can’t help but pop your head up to gaze into his hooded eyes.
“Feels real’ nice,” you say, groggier than before, “Thank you, baby.”
“What’re you thankin’ me for?” God, his voice was just so rich when he’s all sleepy and serene, “I should be thanking you. You’re fuckin’ perfect.”
As you traipse your lips across his jaw, the tired feelings that should’ve come around hours ago were finally starting to hit you. Like a ton of bricks, your body goes limp, leaving your trail of open mouthed kisses to his neck and exposed collarbone to go awry.
“Gettin’ tired, aren’t you?” You hear the words through the hollow of his chest, rather than them leaving his lips.
“Mmmhh—”
Ashton’s body relaxes as well, still deep inside of you with a lazy hand down the curve of your spine.
“Well, you can stay like this as long as you need. I’m here.”
Just as you intend to reply, most likely another string of thank you’s, Ashton presses a kiss to the top of your head, encouraging you to just give into your tiredness and let go.
Your racing mind finally comes to a halt, that ticking alarm clock disappearing into the warm pink hues of the Himalayan salt lamp; you knew this moment was everything you needed and more.
“Mmmh, love you,” you hum into his chest, eyelids heavy like sandbags.
Ashton’s heartbeat picks up slightly, you could hear it right through him; his entire body jolting with electricity as the two of you lay closer than you ever had been before.
“And I love you more.”
author’s note: This fic was written back in January, 2020, as part of the infamous A Permanent Chase fic, which I'm not sure will ever see the light of day as it only lives in my head and my heart.
The original concept is the following (to help you understand the fic better):
Ashton (in the beginning appearing as Fletcher) comes back to Sydney, where he starts working at Calum's garage as a mechanic. Shortly after this he meets our girl and starts to pursue her. They do start dating, but after some complications happen, and she finds out Fletcher is not the person he tells people he is, but someone else (Ashton), and she quickly breaks things up between them.
What she doesn't realize is that she and Ashton have met before, just after graduation at a beach party, where they fell in love for a night, but never saw each other again. Ashton does recognize the girl, but she doesn't recognize him for a long time, until finally Ashton does tell her the truth about their past.
The story is a mess - the original idea included gangs and street racing in which Ashton also partakes, lots of chasing after the girl in different places and scenarios, who eventually starts to put together how Ashton really loves her and actually wants to protect her from things happening around the city. (This is a huge reason why I never really worked on the story - I couldn't decide on anything, so it's just a big mess.)
They eventually make up and finally kiss at another beach party (full circle), and decide that they want to start a relationship with each other. There are lot of added stories to them in my mind, all of them following the main story above.
I also realized over the years that in some ways they are kinda toxic, but I cannot help it, I love my babies so much. So if you have any additional questions, please feel free to ask them.
Feedback and reblogs are appreciated!
It was well past midnight when you realized that there was something out of the ordinary. At first everything seemed to be normal, your night started like any other: you stopped by the garage after work, parking your car just outside the building and greeted the boys who were still working there. You’ve convinced Ashton to finish early, making Calum close up for the night, and dragged your boyfriend up the stairs to his flat.
He was in a really good mood, and with a cheeky grin he pulled you into the shower with himself. His hands were searching and grabbing at whatever body parts they could reach, and after he’d promised you the best fuck of your life, Ashton picked you up to cross the tiny apartment to his bedroom, where he made good on his promise. You were lying in a tangled mass afterwards, watching the last rays of sunshine peeking through the window, painting Sydney in the most beautiful shades of pink, orange and yellow.
You were ready to make some dinner, but Ashton preferred cuddle time, and held you close to his side while he ordered Thai food from one of his favourite places. You spent the time kissing and talking about your day until the guy arrived with your order, and you ate in comfortable silence in the kitchen, playing footsie all through dinner. Usually this was the time when you went out to have fun around town, or just lay on the couch, watching the TV mindlessly, but the last few weeks have been different.
Since you’ve decided to take up some courses to help you with your work, it meant that eventually you needed to take exams on them as well. You had your doubts when you first approached Ash with the idea, but he was supportive, and in his own way, he helped you with your studying and papers. It usually meant buying you coffee or letting you rant about your problems – or ordering food when he thought you could use the extra time. And his apartment was much quieter than your noisy neighbourhood. He did not mind you staying over if it meant cuddles, food sharing and sex – all three of those happened regularly, so he did not complain.
You have already started revising notes when Ashton came up to you and gave a kiss on your neck. You leaned back against his chest, looking up at him with a smile.
“You’re going to bed?”
“Yeah, I promised Calum that I will open in the morning, since someone decided to drag me away early,” he leaned forward to press another kiss on your forehead, his red locks falling over your face. “And I don’t want to keep you away from your notes and books, which are clearly more interesting than your own boyfriend.”
“How tragic,” you laughed, turning around on the kitchen chair to wrap your arms around him. “Please file a complaint, and I will talk to the management.”
“And what will I get as a consolation prize?” he quirked an eyebrow at you.
“Blowjobs.”
“Oh, plural? That doesn’t sound so bad,” Ashton grinned at you, brushing a lock of hair behind your ear. “When can I start collecting them?”
“You know how offices work – it might take a few weeks to get an answer,” you bit your lip to hide a smile, and Ash just huffed at you.
“If it was up to you, I wouldn’t get my blowjobs for the next 30 days or so,” his fingers found a way into your tied up hair, slowly pulling out strands and combing them back into an even messier bun. “Any way to file a complaint about filing complaints?”
“I might know someone who can help you,” you tilted your head forward, pressing a small kiss on the skin of his stomach, then quickly blew a raspberry on it. “But only during opening hours.”
“You are terrible,” he laughed, grabbing your face and pulling you closer to plant a kiss on your lips. “Alright, I’ll leave you to your notes.”
“Don’t hog the blankets,” you poked his side, and Ash laughed again, pushing your hand away. “Good night, Cardinal.”
“Is that a joke on my hair?”
“You tell me,” you winked at him, and he leaned back to give you another kiss.
“Good night, you monster.”
* * *
You knew something was up when you heard noises from the bedroom. The flat was really small, with no actual doors between the bedroom, the living area and the kitchen, and at first you thought the all-nighters you pulled would bother Ashton and he wouldn’t be able to sleep with the light on in the kitchen. But he was a heavy sleeper, still and calm, and the only thing that ever broke the silence was his light snoring. But not tonight.
The first thing you heard were the rustling sheets, a pillow thumping down onto the floor, the bed creaking under his weight. There was a loud gasp, more rustling, something hitting the nightstand or the bed frame, then another loud thump on the mattress. More gasps, more heavy breathing – you could hear the panic in the way he was trying to catch his breath, choking on air, like he couldn’t get enough oxygen into his lungs.
You pushed yourself out of the chair, running to the small bedroom to check on Ashton. He was tangled up in the sheets, body twisting around as he tried to kick off the covers, thrashing in his blanket prison. His arms were swinging, trying to grab onto something (or someone), hitting the pillows and the bed with every move. He pushed his head back into the pillow, turning it left and right as he was panting, his Adam’s apple moving almost in a frantic, panicked way.
He was no stranger to nightmares – when he was exhausted or just had a bad day, he would go to bed early, resting his head on your stomach, hugging your body close to him like a pillow, and that usually did the trick. He slept soundly and without interruption. But sometimes he was just so lost in his own head that he forgot about it all, not caring about the dreams sneaking into his sleepy mind, and he usually woke with a start in the middle of the night. He would curl his body around yours, telling you that he’s okay, he just had a bad dream, he will fall back to sleep soon – he only ever asked you to hold his hand during these moments.
But tonight was different, Ashton never had a nightmare like this, one that physically shook him. He was fighting so hard to wake up, but nothing seemed to work. You dropped onto the mattress, climbing closer, and grabbed him by his shoulders, shaking him with all the strength that you had.
“Ashton! Ashton, wake up! Ash! Wake up!”
Suddenly he bolted up, eyes wide open, staring at the wall and taking in a lungful of air, making himself dizzy in the process. You shifted closer, climbing between his legs, and wrapped your arms around his trembling body. You held him close, running your fingers over his back, murmuring soft words into his ear as he buried his face in your neck, taking deep breaths, trying to calm his hammering heart.
“I’m here, Ash, it’s okay. I’m here. I’ve got you.”
He locked his arms around your waist, pulling you closer, never loosening his grip on you. You ran your hand up to his shoulder, lightly massaging his tense muscles, caressing his neck, brushing your fingers over his hair. His skin was cold and sweaty, his hair wet and sticking to his forehead. His breathing was slowing, and you moved your head to press a small kiss on his temple. He tensed for a second, but then melted into your arms once again.
“It’s alright,” you whispered, still stroking the red locks at the back of his head. “It’s over. It was just a dream, it’s over. I’m here. You’re awake. It’s okay.”
His breath was hot on your neck as he inhaled deeply, nuzzling his face back into your skin. His muscles were slowly relaxing, but he was still tense and sweaty, and a shiver ran through his body. He tried to burrow closer to get more of your warmth, and you let him stay in your arms like this for a few more minutes. When you could feel he was a bit more relaxed, you pulled back a little, lifting his head up to look at you. His eyes were glassy and unfocused, and it took him a few seconds to get out of his daze.
Ashton’s gaze skipped over yours, instead focusing on the chain hanging from your neck. The silver ring he gave you almost a year ago was hooked on a thin necklace, the weight of the metal resting between your breasts, a comfort you never knew you needed. You still remembered the time when he wore it on his finger, playing with it whenever he started getting nervous. He called it a good luck charm, something he desperately needed while he was chasing after you. But once he got hold of your heart, he gave it to you – since then it became something much more than just a piece of jewellery. For you: a reminder; for others: a warning.
His clumsy fingers wrapped around the ring, slightly tugging on it. You slowly tilted his head up again, trying to catch his eyes. His hazel ones finally found your gaze, and you gave him a small smile, lightly running your fingers over his stubbly jaw.
“Hey, you’re okay?”
Silence, then a nod.
“How about you go and take a shower? Get warmed up,” you rubbed his arms, trying to warm his still cold skin. “And I will change the sheets.”
Another nod.
Ash let go of your necklace, slowly peeling himself out of the bed, starting to go to the bathroom, then stopped, looked back at you. You gave him another encouraging smile, nodded at him that it’s okay, you both will be fine, after which he finally made his way out of the room. When the lock clicked and the shower started up, you let out a breath you were holding back. A thousand questions were running through your mind, but you didn’t want to take too much time thinking about them. You wanted to make sure Ashton was comfortable after his nightmare, that he can come back and relax into the bed, wrapped in your arms, and sleep off this horrible experience.
You started stripping off the sweat soaked sheets, pulling out a fresh set from the drawer, working methodically in changing them. After that you opened the window, letting in fresh air, the slight breeze clearing away the remaining shadows from the room. You reached into another drawer, choosing a soft pair of sweatpants for Ashton, and finally went to the kitchen, making tea, waiting for him to finish up.
The lock on the bathroom door clicked, and it opened with a slight squeak. Ash stood behind the door, a towel wrapped around his waist, water dripping on the tiles from his red hair. You stepped to him, holding the pants out for him. He took them from your hands, his fingers brushing against yours as he did, and that made him look at you.
“I made you tea,” you nodded towards the kitchen, leaning against the doorframe. “If you want some.”
“Thanks,” his voice was quiet and small, and he coughed a little to make his throat work. “I– I’ll be there.”
“Take your time.”
You stepped back to the kitchen, piling up your books and notes to shove them to the corner of the table. You knew there was no way you would go back to studying, not tonight. Any exam could wait – Ashton needed you now.
After a few more minutes he emerged from the bathroom, shuffling to the kitchen, and dropped down onto the chair next to you. He sighed deeply, then leaned forward, resting both his arms on the table, and put his head down on them, hiding his face. You watched him, how his back moved as he was breathing in and out. His muscles were still tense, you could see it from the way he was holding himself. You scooted a bit closer, and slowly put your hand on his elbow, a tentative touch. When he did not flinch away, you started to lightly rub his arm, up to his shoulder, down on his back, then back up again.
When you reached the back of his neck, Ash moved his head to the side, looking at you as you stroked his drying locks with your fingers. His hazel eyes were searching you as you were working through the tangled ends, brushing them back from his face. He let out another small sigh when you touched his face, caressing his cheek, which made him nuzzle into your hand.
“Do you want to talk about it?” you asked, resting your hand back on his arm.
Ashton looked at you for another second, then hid his face back in the crook of his elbow. You waited for him, you knew he needed time to work through the thoughts in his head, to decide if he wanted to face them again. He slowly pushed himself up, reaching for the mug in front of him, taking a sip of his cooling tea. His fingers were running over the rim, circling it mindlessly as he focused on something in front of him.
“You… left me.”
There was silence in the kitchen – his words left you speechless. It sounded silly at first; you knew how you felt about him, how first his attention was unusual, almost uncomfortable at times, and that you wished he would give you just an ounce of space; how you started to miss him when he wasn’t around, how you watched over your shoulder if he would appear somehow, stalk behind you, keeping his distance, but never taking his eyes off of you. You knew he had his reasons to do so, and you learned to love him for that – it wasn’t so hard, he found a way to your heart, and you willingly let him in. You never wanted to let go of him ever again.
“I have no intention in doing that,” you reached out to take his hand in yours, squeezing it. “And no reason.”
“But what if you do?” he whispered, pulling his hand away. “What if you find one?”
“Ash… is this something you’ve been… thinking about lately?” you asked softly, your fingers going up to your necklace, running them over the ring.
He did not answer; his eyes were still trained on the same spot as before. He was drumming on the tabletop, the rhythm getting more and more frantic and complicated. You desperately wanted to reach out and stop him, to make him look at you, to let him know you were there, you were listening, that you wanted to understand. But it seemed he was lost in his own thoughts – thoughts that brought out a nightmare that clearly shook him to the core.
“Ashton,” you said in a small voice. “Don’t push me away. Please.”
Those words made him look at you. Those words were his words, begging you to give him another chance, to make up for the mistakes he made when you met again. They were Ashton’s words, not Fletcher’s; they made you stop in your tracks, made you listen to him. They broke you in a way you’ve known you will never be broken again. That was the first time you’ve really let him into your heart, and you never wanted him to leave.
Ash sighed deeply, slowly turning around in his chair to face you, though his head was down. His fingers nervously twitched in his lap, and he started wringing his hands, looking for the rings he usually wore to play with. He once told you that sometimes he felt naked without them, and he liked wearing at least one to mindlessly spin it around, or take it off and put it back on. You moved a little closer, pushing your knees against his, slowing down his bouncing feet. Leaning forward you reached for him, pushing your fingers between his tightly clasped ones, and interlocked them. There was a slight shake to his hands, and you gently ran your thumb over his skin, trying to calm him again.
“I’m sorry,” he finally breathed, slowly looking up at you from under his lashes. “I’m just… unsure.”
“Of me?” you tilted your head to the side, trying to see all of him. He just shook his head.
“Of myself,” Ashton answered, rubbing your hands with his thumbs. “If I’m good enough for you.”
“Of course you are,” you squeezed his fingers in yours, pushing your forehead against his. “You are my Ashton. How could you not be good enough for me?”
“That’s not what everyone else thinks,” he said with a humourless laugh. “People talk, all over town.”
“Some neighbourhood gossip won’t make me leave you,” you shook your head. “What could they tell me that I don’t already know? I know you, Ash, I know who you are.”
“You have the heart of an angel, and I’m the devil who’s holding you back,” he whispered, tilting his head down.
“Maybe I’ve had enough of heaven,” your hand went to his jaw, slowly tipping his chin up to look back at you. “If hell is where you are, then I’m packing all of my bags to be with you.”
“Y/N…”
“Or maybe they have it the wrong way around,” you continued. “Cause you definitely feel like heaven to me. Maybe it’s not their definition of the place. But screw them – my heaven is all tattooed up and gorgeous.”
A blush coloured his cheek, and he moved closer to rest his forehead on your shoulder, his legs bracketing yours. You were tangled up in each other, silently sitting in the kitchen for a few minutes, Ashton’s hand on your thighs while you played with the hair at the nape of his neck. Then he slowly pulled back, rubbing his eyes – was it tears, or sleep, you didn’t know – and looked back at you again.
“Your parents still hate me,” he added, resting his elbow on the table, leaning his head against his hand.
“They hate everyone,” you answered with a shrug. “They even hate me. That’s not an accomplishment.”
“I’m sure they would prefer anyone else over me,” he searched you with his eyes. “Someone who can give you a real future.”
“What do you think, what does a girl need?” you quirked an eyebrow at him, and it was his turn to shrug.
“Financial security?” he asked, and when you rolled your eyes at him, he continued. “Someone like that guy you work with – what’s his name? Liam?”
“A suit and tie?” you shook your head, putting your hands on his knees to lean closer. “Really, Ash? When I can have you, your jackets and chains, and the fire red Mustang? Well, tough luck, because you’re stuck with me for good.”
“But am I enough for you?” Ashton sighed, reaching for you and holding your face in his hands, making you really look at each other. “I wanna give you the world. Hell, I wanna give you the galaxy. The universe. But I’m just this guy, fixing cars and running my mouth at people. And you… you’re smart and beautiful and could get anyone you set your eyes on.”
“And that’s you,” you nuzzled your face against his hand, looking at him pleadingly. “You’re the only one I want.”
“What if Liam asked you on a date? Or one of the guys at that course? What if you get along so much that you realize that you could just… do better than me?” his gaze slipped down to the ring resting against your chest, saying the next words looking at it. “You know I would do anything for you… but I know I can’t keep you forever.”
“Ash, how long have we known each other?” you asked, reaching for him, brushing his hair behind his ear.
“7 or 8 years. Dunno. Why is that important now?” he sighed, shaking his head.
“What do you think… how many guys did I date during that time?” you questioned him, but did not wait for an answer. “Only two. And you wanna know their names?”
“Please don’t kick me when I’m already down,” he whispered, but you’ve had enough.
“They are Fletcher and Ashton. They are you, Ash. I might have had a few flings and one night stands, and sure, I went on a few dates with guys. But it was only ever you I had a real thing with. It was only you who was ever good enough for me.”
“Then why did you even go on those dates if you didn’t want anything from them?” the question left Ashton before he could stop himself, and you could see him flinch when he realized what he’d said.
“I wanted to know how I felt about other people. I wanted to give myself a chance, see how we could work out. You know – if you never try, you’ll never know,” you shrugged a little while reaching for his hand, slowly interlocking your fingers with his. “And I– I think I wanted to know how you would react.”
“Remember the hole in the wall?” he quirked an eyebrow at you, and you needed to stifle a laugh.
“I was always waiting for you to show up during your dates,” you confessed, squeezing his hand in yours. “You know, just crash them. I wanted you to crash them. I know it took me a long time to let you in…”
“Well, half the time you were mad at me,” he said, leaning closer and resting his forehead against yours. “For one reason, or the other.”
“And in the other half I desperately wanted you to kiss me,” you finished, nuzzling your nose to his.
“You know I would have done it in a second,” he breathed. “I wanted to walk up to every single one of those guys and tell them that you’re… that you’re…”
“Come on,” you whispered, licking your lips. “Say it.”
“Mine.”
“Don’t think I was never asked on dates at my job or at school,” you gazed at him while saying the next part. “I was, numerous times. You know what I say to them when they call me pretty? Thank you, my boyfriend thinks so too. Or when they invite me for coffee? Thanks, but Ash is already bringing me some. And when they don’t want to let it go, I say: trust me, you do not want to meet him.”
“Are you really saying those things?” he asked you, and you nodded.
“I’m also implying that I’m having the best sex of my life, and I don’t plan on giving up on that,” you finished with a smile.
A moment later Ashton started laughing – it was his first real laugh of the night, and he hid his face, trying to stifle his giggles. It was the most beautiful sound you’ve ever heard. Suddenly the night wasn’t that dark, but instead everything seemed to start to glow a little bit. It was Ashton’s smile, shining through the blacks, dark blues and grays of the night, warming up the chilling air around you, shifting everything back to your usual teasing, but loving normal, the one you’ve built up together.
“I love your smile,” you whispered when he finally looked back at you, still trying to catch his breath. “I know I’ve always told you that you should wipe that grin off of your face, but god, I’m happy you never did. I just… there are so many things I just love about you that I’ve thought I hated before. Like your snake tattoo, or your loud car and obnoxious sunglasses… your terrible jokes and sexual innuendos, and how you never fail to say them at the worst times… I love your stupid red hair, and…”
“My hair is not stupid,” Ash mumbled, a smile still playing at the corner of his mouth.
“No,” you shook your head, reaching once again for him to brush your fingers through his red locks. “No, it’s not.”
Ash nuzzled closer, closing his eyes for a moment to enjoy the caresses and light tugs on his hair, making a small noise that almost sounded like purring. He turned his head, brushing his lips against your wrist as you wrapped a curl around your finger, pushing it behind his ear, stroking your hand down his cheek and jaw. Hazel eyes followed the movement of your fingers until you ran your thumb over his chin, and his gaze finally found yours.
“Can I kiss you?” you asked him softly, pulling back a little to see his face.
“Are you asking for permission?” there was another small smile tugging at the corner of his mouth, and a slight blush coloured his cheeks.
“Just checking if you are in the right headspace,” you returned his smile, and he nodded shortly.
“I would love that.”
Without a second thought you leaned forward, one of your hands sliding up the back of his neck and into his hair, the other one cradling his jaw, tilting his head a little to the side. His breath was hot on your face as you moved closer, cheeks and noses brushing, lips slowly pressing against each other – one soft, the other slightly chapped. You kissed his bottom lip, moving to the top, nuzzling closer and closer, until he opened his mouth and let you kiss him deeper, brushing his tongue against yours as you both tasted the other. Ash made a needy little sound as you nipped on his lips and kissed his chin, his jaw, brushing against his cheek as you nudged your nose against the soft skin behind his ear.
“I chose you, Ashton. I’ve been choosing you every single day since that night on the beach, and I’ll do it as long as you let me. I’m freakin’ in love with you if that hasn't been clear before,” you breathed softly, kissing the shell of his ear. “You’ve been on my mind for the last 8 years, and if that’s not love, then you have to find a better word for me, because I’m failing here, and you know I’m good with words. But you just have this effect on you where I completely lose my sanity, and I would gladly give up on it forever, if it meant I get to spend the rest of my life with you.”
Ash reached for you and wrapped his arms around your waist, pulling you out of your chair, and sitting you on his lap. His hand rested on your thigh, keeping you close to his body, as his fingers ran through your hair, guiding your face to his again. It was his turn to kiss you, and he started with the softest of touches, just to feel each other’s breath on your lips, the warmness of the other’s skin, the shiver running through you when you’ve finally lost your patience. Noses and lips pushed together, and he kissed you deeply, tongue brushing against yours as you were holding onto his shoulders. His scent clouded your mind, his touch burnt your skin, and you never wanted this moment to end.
“I love you,” Ash pulled away just enough to brush his lips against yours as he spoke. “I love you, I love you, I love you.”
You pressed another kiss on his temple, cuddling closer in his lap to feel as much of his skin as you could. His arms wrapped around you more strongly, and he rested his head on your shoulder, pushing his face into your neck. For a few minutes you’ve stayed like this – slow caresses on waists and backs, fingers brushing over hair and tattoos, lips leaving small kisses wherever they could.
“Come on,” you ran your thumb over Ashton’s cheek. “I think it’s time we go back to bed.”
“I’m sorry. I didn’t want to keep you away from your studying,” he started apologizing, but you shook your head, smiling at him.
“Screw exams. You’ll always be my first priority,” you tugged a little on his hair, tilting his head up towards you. “How does that sound to you?”
“Like something I’ve always wanted from you,” Ash returned your smile, then reached for your hand to kiss your knuckles. “Thank you, beautiful.”
You climbed down from his lap and reached for him to pull him up from the chair. You made our way back to the bedroom where the sheets were freshly changed and the pillows fluffed up just as Ashton liked it. He hesitated for a moment – the nightmare was still fresh in his mind, and even after you’ve talked through everything, he was still a little bit shaken from it.
“It’s alright,” you leaned against his side, pressing a kiss on the tattoo on his arm. “I’m here now.”
“I’m– scared to fall back to sleep,” he admitted, then sighed deeply. “It’s stupid, I know.”
“No, Ash. It’s perfectly normal,” you pushed yourself up on your tiptoes to kiss his cheek. “Don’t ever feel ashamed, especially not because of your dreams. You’re human, it’s okay to fall sometimes. I’ll always be here to pick you up.”
“How did I get so lucky?” he turned to you, gathering you in his arms for a hug, resting his head on top of yours.
“Must have been that lucky charm of yours,” you answered with a smile, feeling the ring resting between your bodies.
“You are my lucky charm,” Ashton whispered, brushing the hair back from your face.
“Well, then you should definitely hold onto me.”
He huffed at you with a smile, shaking his head. You pulled him down on the bed, both of you getting comfortable under the blankets – Ash scooted as close to you as he could, nuzzling his face between your head and shoulder. You wrapped your arms around him, letting him rest his weight on you, running your fingers through his hair.
“You smell so good,” he mumbled against your skin, pushing his nose to your pulse point. “Am I not too heavy?”
“You’re perfect where you are,” you continued brushing your fingers over his curls, skimming them over the back of his neck, down his shoulders, then back up again. “How are you feeling?”
“Like maybe I will be able to fall asleep,” he breathed, then reached for the ring hanging from your neck. “Is it okay if I stay like this?”
“Your peace of mind is worth every numb limb and hours spent awake,” you kissed his forehead, then the hand holding onto the ring. “You would do the same for me. And just so you know, you make an excellent pillow.”
“You too,” he closed his eyes, resting his hand back on your side, cuddling close. “Will you… will you hold my hand? Please?”
Without another word you slid your fingers against his, interlocking them. He squeezed your hand in return, letting out one last sigh as he slowly let go of all the tension that kept him awake. His body melted against yours, muscles relaxing as his breathing evened out, and in a few minutes all you could feel was his light snoring tickling your neck. You brushed your fingers through his hair again, pressing one last goodnight kiss on his forehead before resting back against your pillows.
Ashton slept soundly in your arms, head resting on your shoulder, arm thrown over your waist, fingers interlocked on the bed. He fit perfectly against you, his weight all the comfort you needed in your life. You would have stayed up all night just to make sure he had no more nightmares, but his soft sleepy sounds slowly lulled you to sleep too. The last thing you remembered was his lips brushing against your neck as he shuffled in his sleep, and you fell asleep with a smile on your face. You knew for sure he was your forever – and you planned on reminding him of that every single day for the rest of your lives. Even if it meant chasing away his nightmares every night. Because he was worth it.
pairing: ashton x reader
warnings: none
word count: 2.3k
✩ ✩ ✩
as a teenager, you were always going to concerts. music was your life, it got you through more than your friends or family ever could. seeing your favourite musicians in person was everything.
never did you expect a few years later you’d be dating one.
ashton irwin. the drummer from 5 seconds of summer. of course you’d heard their music occasionally before you started dating, however, you wouldn’t call yourself a hardcore fan.
you’d been dating for a few years now, and every second of that time had been absolutely wonderful. well, mostly.
you got to travel the world, see places you’d never thought you’d ever see in your lifetime, all because of him. most of all, seeing him up on that stage, performing, was a big highlight for you. it was incredible.
the downside was when you couldn’t be there for certain shows. having to go home in the middle of a big tour, or not even getting to go with him at the beginning. you’d never forget the times that schedules had changed suddenly, stripping you and ashton of any sort of goodbye.
you’d been with ashton on tour for the past month, and now their tour would be heading to europe. this was your time to unfortunately say goodbye.
you, along with the band, were at a hotel at the airport last night. you would be taking a flight back home while they take a flight over seas to a whole different country.
you and ashton had experienced this before, you both knew you could deal with the distance. but it never got easier. especially with the time difference always making things difficult.
waking up today, the last morning you’d be together, you wanted to make sure to enjoy the last few moments you’ll get together.
last night was wonderful. after getting to the hotel, you ordered room service, eating on the comfort of the bed while talking about a few tour related things as well as discussing what you’d be doing at home while he’s continuing to tour the world.
you both got ready for bed, quite early at that, putting on a movie while you laid in bed together. not long after the movie started, it got forgotten about. wanting to take in this last night to make the most of each others company before you’d be apart for some time.
now, you were still in bed, snuggled up together. ashton had ended up being the little spoon, that didn’t always happen, but when it did, you loved wrapping your arms around him, hugging him close, it was comforting.
you glanced over at the clock on the desk, seeing it wasn’t long before you would have to be getting up. sighing, you tried to focus on being this close to ashton before you’d have to leave each other.
ashton laying shirtless in bed, you pressed a couple of soft kisses to the top of his back. you held him as close as you could, cheek resting against his back. today was going to be hard. you didn’t want to say goodbye. you’d both be okay, but the thought of not being together for a while was a feeling you were still taking time to get used to.
ashton woke up shortly after you, yawning as he leaned to see if you were awake. just about seeing that you were, smiling at you as you smiled back.
“morning, baby,” he took your hands in his that were resting on his stomach. “how’re you feeling?”
“same as always,” you sighed. “don’t want you to leave.”
“i don’t want to either,” ashton pulled at one of your hands, kissing the back of it softly. “wish you could come with me.”
he felt you nod, then feeling something different. you started tracing your index finger around his back, between his shoulders. he hummed quietly, liking the feeling.
you traced around his freckles, connecting the dots that were scattered across his body. they were like constellations, just like the stars were in the sky. something you both use to feel close to each other when you were actually miles apart.
he moved a while after you started, rolling onto his side to get a good look at you before you’d have to start getting ready for your departing flights.
“how long is your flight?” you asked him.
“eight hours.” he frowned. a long time for you to go without speaking. “yours is five?”
you nodded, going quiet again. ashton shuffled over to you, pulling you closer to make the most of cuddling before you couldn’t for a while.
“you’re gonna update me every day right?” you asked, as if it wasn’t the same every tour. “and call me whenever you can.”
“every day,” he promised. “i’ll figure out timezones, find a good time i can call you.”
you nodded again, looking up at him, “i’m gonna miss you.” you reached up to run a hand through his hair.
ashton went to say something, when his alarm started going off on his phone. not a wake up alarm, more a time limit alarm. meaning you’d spent as much time as you could staying in bed. neither of you moved.
“i love you.” ashton leaned down, pressing a kiss to your lips. moving to leave the bed right after.
“i love you too, ash.”
it was a rush after that. you took until the last minute to be ready. avoiding a lot of calls and texts from the guys, telling you they’d leave without you if you didn’t get out of the hotel room soon.
once ready, you were quick to make your way towards security where a few checks would be done, as well as checking a few boards to make sure both of your flights would be on time.
although a delay might have been nice.
you’d already agreed that you’d wait at the same gate as ashton, for his flight. his flight was scheduled slightly earlier than yours, so you could be with him until the second he left.
you sat next to each other in the waiting area, fingers linked together, the guys sat opposite. you didn’t speak a whole lot, this time was enough without needing to say anything.
it was only when an announcement was made that boarding would begin soon that you knew the goodbyes would be coming soon.
“can i change my mind and come with you?” you half joked. knowing you couldn’t do that.
“i wish you could, love,” ashton leaned over to you, kissing your temple. “but work just can’t cope without your expertise.”
you laughed, he was right, your job always seemed to mess things up when you were on tour with ashton instead.
and then boarding started, people standing to make their way over to the gate, tickets started being scanned before going down to the doors.
you said your goodbyes to the guys first, letting them get sorted and go ahead to get onto the plane. you and ashton always needed that extra time to make sure you’d said everything you wanted before you’d be apart.
“why does this never get easier,” you asked. trying to keep your emotions at bay. “we do this every tour and i still hate it.”
“i know, baby, i know,” ashton pulled you into his embrace, rubbing his hands up and down your back for comfort. “we’re gonna text and call all the time though, i promise.”
“gonna miss you, ash.” you looked up at him.
he cupped your cheeks, caressing his thumbs back and fourth as he leaned down to press a few love filled kisses to your lips.
“i’ll miss you more.” he smiled softly.
“don’t start,” you laughed. glancing over to the gate after the next section of the plane had been called to board. “i guess you’ll have to go now.”
he pulled his backpack onto his back, your hand in his as he pulled you towards the check in desk. the line wasn’t too long, letting him take his time. the person there scanned his ticket and checked his passport, giving him the all clear to board the plane.
“i’ll see you soon, baby.” ashton pulled you in for a final hug, holding onto each other as tight as you could. “i love you, so much.”
“i love you,” you replied, pulling back slowly before letting him go. “text me as soon as you can.”
he walked through the first gate, you followed where he was going, sticking to where the seating area is. the railings stopping you from going any further.
“i will,” he called over. “i’ll call you tomorrow.”
“please do!” you called back.
ashton gave you one final wave, disappearing around the last corner that leads to the plane, gone in the blink of an eye. like normal, you sat there, waiting until his plane left. it took you time to move after, everything felt weird once he’d gone.
it was always hard for you, boarding your plane on your own, sitting next to a stranger, knowing ashton was heading in one direction and you in another.
you’d had conversations about quitting your job so you could be with him all the time on tour. but it never got any further than light talk. going by how hard you still found it, it might be time to bring it up again.
when you got back home, it was strange. too quiet. you were alone in your house to unpack, to get back to work, to cook meals for yourself. you didn’t like it at all.
it took you at least a week to settle back in. you would text back and fourth with ashton for a little while, but it was never long. it was hard with the time difference and him having to go to rehearsals, soundchecks and the shows.
you hadn’t talked over the phone as much as you’d promised each other. you endlessly wanted to call him, but the lack of texts from him told you that he was too busy with tour. which you always understood.
it was a few weeks in when you started leaving voicemails in the early hours. late for you, the middle of the night in europe. which is because you knew he wouldn’t answer, so you could say what you wanted for him to hear when he woke up.
one day in particular, you’d missed ashton a lot. things had gone wrong at work and it had tired you out. he’d normally be here to help you through the stress, but he was on the opposite side of the world.
you thought about getting an early night, skipping dinner, and to no surprise you couldn’t sleep. when ashton was here, you’d sit outside on your back porch to feel the fresh air of the night, it always used to help. just being surrounded by peace and the stars above.
you sat there, on your swing seat. clicking on ashton’s name to call him. it was almost nine at night for you, ashton wouldn’t be up for another few hours where he is, so you hadn’t expected him to answer.
you waited for his answerphone message to start playing, instead, you were met with ashton’s tired voice.
“hey,” he answered. you were silent for a moment. “you there, love?”
“yea, sorry, i thought you’d be sleeping.” you replied.
“only slept an hour,” you could hear him sigh. “couldn’t sleep after that.”
you tucked your legs up beside you, wishing ashton was here with you, “what city are you in?” you asked. “one that i’d like?”
“paris,” he smiled. “i know you love it here, can’t stop thinking about you.”
“is it still dark there?” you questioned. “are the stars out?”
you heard shuffling on the line, followed by silence, and then what sounded like a door opening and closing. ashton let out a long breath as stepped onto his balcony, he looked up at the sky above him, it would be getting light soon, but the stars were definitely still bright.
“yea, they’re out.” he sat down on the singular chair perched to the side.
“and now we’re together,” you smiled to yourself. “for a little while at least.”
“you’re stargazing?” he sounded surprised. “wish i could stargaze with you.”
“but you are, ash,” you rubbed your eyes tiredly. “no matter where we are, the stars can bring us together.”
you were both quiet, looking up at the sky. the beautiful night sky. the stars reminded you of him, the way you both loved stargazing, loved spotting the constellations.
“i can see it,” ashton had a smile to his voice. “orien’s belt. it’s there.”
those stars stood out the most, “we’re looking at the same stars.” you smiled. “i see it too.”
orien’s belt was one of the things you always pointed out to ashton, that felt like the closest you’d get to him now, the only thing connecting you both while you sat under the stars in two different places.
you’d make shapes out of the different constellations. much like you’d trace the constellations on ashton’s body. his freckles that you love. it’s a part of him you’d always remember, even when he’s miles away. just like right now.
“baby?” ashton said quietly.
“hm.” you responded, letting him know you were still there.
“i love you.” he almost whispered. wishing he could be there with you, hands on your waist to hold you.
“i love you too, ash.” you replied in the same quietness. happy that you had this time to talk a little. “call me later?”
he didn’t answer for a moment, taking one last good look up at the stars to make him feel like he was with you before the light took over once again.
he smiled, this short conversation making him feel much better than before, “i’ll call you later.”
________________________________
It’s a tradition, one that you’d personally be damned in trying to pinpoint when it had grown into such. But lack of clarity on its inception doesn’t undermine the tradition that brings you here, two nights before the tour sitting across from Ashton. He’s giggling at his own story, napkin clutched into one of his hands. Your cheeks hurt from how much you’ve been smiling and laughing at it as well. You and Ashton are always here two nights before any tour with dinner. Whether he cooks, or you cook, or you eat out--it doesn’t matter. The two of you make sure to set time aside for each other regardless.
“I’m so serious,” Ashton giggles. “Guy straight up offered fifty bucks for the t-shirt I was literally wearing. Right off my back.”
“The real question,” you start, setting your bottle down after your sip, “is did you actually give this rando your shirt off your back for fifty bucks?”
Ashton’s smile changes, the bright honey curve of his lips morphs into something softer and more mischievous. “I got a good lunch afterwards though.”
“Ashton!” you scold, tufts of laughter bubbling from your chest. You know the possibility always exists with Ashton. It would be hard to imagine that he wouldn’t do something just for the story of it.
“I didn’t take the cash! But he treated me to lunch, since I did sort of give him the shirt off my back.”
“You didn’t sort of do anything,” you huff, finishing off the last pieces of your food. Ashton’s plate sits with just another bite or two of the pasta. Somehow the food’s gone faster than you two have even calculated for, but that won’t stop you. With the settling evening, Ashton’s backyard is a comfortable solace, a nice place to rest for a little.
“Guilty as charged,” Ashton returns. He scrapes up the last of his food as the conversation lulls for a moment. He watches though, the way you stare up and behind him, like your mind’s taken you to places behind the court of his house. “But how’s work? For you?”
You’d asked Ashton how his life was going and it sent him spiraling. He can go a mile a minute but he’s never far from always checking in on you. You shrug at Ashton’s question. Your life has fallen a little mundane though your work is anything but.
You’d fallen into Ashton’s world when he frequented the record shop you worked out in the last year of your master’s program. You needed the cash on the side. Though the days were long between school, work, and homework, you found a little slice of quiet in that shop. It was a local gem, hidden in the debris of a crumbling shopping center. But locals knew the record shop well and would take the hike to unearth the treasure.
Ashton was one of those locals. He spotted you as you placed prices on new arrivals and asked if anything specific came in worth looking for. You shrugged in response, but lifted out some limited edition vinyls with a yawn. You’re not sure what joke you made specifically, but it was enough. Ashton laughed like his life depended on it and more and more he came into the shop. You two exchanged names, then numbers, growing closer and closer as time passed. In just a year, you could tell that Ashton was going to be someone important in your life. You’d never imagine the scale, and still can’t. But you told yourself even if Ashton was there for a season it would be spring and bring forth all sorts of new life.
Now, you’re four and half years into your friendship and it still grows and grows. You’ve left the record shop, settling into talent management and running in leagues adjacent to Ashton’s. It’s not the most glamorous job on the planet, but it pays the bills. The only downside to the field is that drama from others becomes your drama just by association. You have to get in the dirt sometimes as much as you definitely didn’t want to. And Ashton knows how much you dislike some of the aspects of your job.
“Is that a shrug that means same old, same old? Or is that a shrug that means big shit?” Ashton questions. “I’d hazard a guess closer to the latter.”
“You win another year of friendship,” you laugh, finally focusing your gaze back on Ashton. His honey eyes are melting with concern as he gazes up at you. It makes your stomach flutter and you hate the feeling. Hate that the two of you were always dancing.
“I wasn’t worried for a second about that. You’re stuck with me. It’s in the contract.”
“I signed no such thing,” you tease. “I need to see that one.”
“It’s written in invisible ink,” Ashton snorts. “But seriously, what’s wrong? Do you want to talk about it?”
“It’s just a mess.” You’re not supposed to get into specifics, but it’s never once stopped you when it came to Ashton. “It’s sensitive information really and not something I want to spread around even if it’s to safe ears.”
Ashton nods. “I’m sure you see and hear a lot of shit.” He knows you’re working specifically with someone up and coming. They’re young and if Ashton knows anything from his younger years, it’s that trouble comes with freedom and excitement. Some mistakes though just need to be learned the hard way. So Ashton assumes it’s something big for you to even keep it quiet.
“Too much shit. We’re talking with lawyers,” you divulge.
Ashton whistles. He’s no stranger to lawyers but he knows that when they get into the mix it gets messy fast. But they aren’t there for no reason, no little reason that is. “Fuck. Is this like…criminal?”
You shake your head. “It’s technically a civil matter but it could easily get criminal with my client’s hothead.”
“You’ve mentioned that before,” Ashton comments. Once before the two of you were catching up over lunch and your phone rang. Not the first time Ashton’s been inside a police station but it is the first time he’s been in one where he thought a crime might happen right next to an officer. To say he thought you could spit fire that day is not eloquent enough for your rage. “Well, I hope it doesn't get criminal. I know it’s gotta be a nightmare for you though. You’ve only been working with them for what? 6 months?”
“Eight,” you correct, “but it’s not long enough to be dealing with lawyers on a first name basis.”
Ashton reclines into his seat, arms folded over his chest. You rest your cheek against the flat of your knuckles, elbows resting on the table. Though you’re smiling, Ashton knows just how unamused you are at the situation. “How long have you been dealing with this situation?”
“Two months? Maybe a little less, but like we’re about to get the two month mark.”
“God damn.”
You can only nod, a hum leaving your throat. “Yeah, but that’s boring and a buzzkill.”
Ashton doesn’t miss the way you spin the bottle of alcohol free beer in a circle. He laughs but nods. “Fine, fine. Want another?”
“No, no, I’m good. You excited for this tour?” Ashton hadn’t talked it about in the same way he had the others. He adored what he was doing. He spoke passionately about the tour. But you were fuzzy on some details. Normally, he was brimming with every twist and turn the tour had. He’d trip over himself to tell you. You hate to think it was somehow a sign--that maybe Ashton’s retracting.
Ashton’s nod is fast and hard. You watch him, eyes dropping from you to the green glass bottle in his hands. “I’m very excited. But I don’t want to spoil it,” he offers. It’s soft and you think that the words are somehow going to crumble onto his lap.
“What do you mean spoil it?” you question. You don’t want to start pointing fingers and claiming that he’s not telling you things like before. You don’t want Ashton to go onto the defense.
“I-it’s so silly,” he laughs.
“No, I’m sure it’s not silly,” you offer.
“But it is. I just-I kind of want you just to see it without me telling you anything about it beforehand. I know I normally tell you everything but this time I just want this to be a surprise.”
“Want me to go in blind, Irwin? Trying to give me a heart attack? I’m supposed to have insider knowledge, you know?”
He smiles again. For that, you’re grateful. “No, you do. I’m sure you have more than enough insider knowledge. I just--” His words fall short. He loves telling you everything. God, Ashton loves sharing his world with you. It makes him smile to see you smile. He wants to be there, when he can be, for you. When he can’t be, he wants to know that he’s still one of the first people you call even through the distance. And he does know it. When you got offered a position with the management company, you called Ashton mere minutes after the email came through. When Ashton nailed a drumline, he’d ensure you got to hear the initial take or two.
But there’s something different about this--he wants to watch you when everything comes unraveled. It’s unlike anything else they’ve done. He wants the show to keep some of its magic. That and he wants to keep an excuse to see you again. You visit during the hometown shown normally and you still plan to this time. But he’s hoping to convince you to visit at least one other show too. Because no two shows are exactly alike.
“Are you sure you can only make it to the LA show?” Ashton questions, finally looking up at you.
You pause, nails picking at the label and the label scrunches just a little with your work. “I might be in Dallas too.”
“Really? You mean that, no bullshit?”
You shrug, your own lips failing to hold back your smile. Ashton catches on though and pushes up in his seat. His plate scratches over the top of the table as his forearms move it to the side. Your skin warms. It’s not embarrassment, it’s not even fear or shyness. You just feel alive in a way that only Ashton seems to make possible. You hold up your hands to slow his roll before it’s begun. “I’m supposed to be working the night before but I extended my stay by a couple days.”
“I’ll take it. I’ll take it easily.” Ashton reaches for your hands. Your palms are softer to the touch and it’s not lost on Ashton how the hairs on his arm stand up at your touch--electric in ways that he’s sure he can’t be alone in. When he looks up through his lashes, your gaze is dropped down to your intertwined fingers. Your fingers stroke gently over the top of his hands, over his knuckles.
“You’re such a sap,” you tease softly.
“I’ll have you know that I don’t care,” Ashton hums. His bones are melting at your touch.
“You all packed up yet?” Ashton’s not necessarily a last minute packer, but he does occasionally cut it down to the wire. More than one of your pre-tour dinners has ended with Ashton needing to pack up his suitcase. It almost feels like it wouldn’t be a tradition without that fact.
Ashton shakes his head, tracing the veins on the top of your hands now. It’s a dance, your hands trading who leads and who waits. “Stylist got the show outfits last week. Everything else is sitting around the suitcase waiting for your magic touch.”
“Oh, c’mon,” you laugh. “You taught me how to pack!”
“And I must say I may be one heck of a teacher, but I swear I almost miss something without you.” He pouts at you, lower lip rolling out.
You roll your eyes but tap at Ashton’s forearms. “You clean up the dishes and get me another beer and I’ll get started.” You’d cooked over at Ashton’s place. Your apartment doesn't have the appropriate kitchen space and you hate how cramped it can feel, so Ashton offered up his place.
Ashton squeezes at your forearms in response, “Thank you. Dishes will be squeaky clean.”
It’s all the two of you need before you push away from the table, plates and bottles in hand, and carry on back inside of the house. The floors are cool against your feet and the house echoes in a way that lets you know all is silent. Ashton most often keeps music playing, saying it makes the place feel lived in. You’re not sure how it can’t feel lived in. Ashton’s couch is covered in blankets, walls lined with plaques and photographs. The living room is a bit echoey as it opens up into the kitchen more directly, but there’s plenty of life, if anyone was to ask you.
You set your dishes on the counter next to the sink, listening to the click of the ceramic meeting the marble. “One of these days you’re going to have to pack yourself,” you tease.
Ashton closes the door to the fridge with his hip, holding two bottles in hand. “Don’t you dare say that. You’ll always be my pack checker.” He wants to say more, wants to say the reason you’ll always be there is because you’ll be with him. Forever might be a scary concept, but he wants to see what that could look like with you. Though if Ashton puts anything more than friends out there and you shoot him down, it’ll shatter him.
He’d recover, he knows. But it’s selfish. He’d rather not have to lose you or hurt himself like that.
“Hmm, my tax might get higher,” you tease, sliding the bottle opener off the counter.
“I’d pay it in a heartbeat,” Ashton huffs. And as the two of you get closer, you reaching for the bottle, Ashton wishes he’d just be more direct. He really ought too. He wants to tell you but also worries that it might break everything.
You work loose the top to both bottles. “That’s a lot of game, Irwin. Let’s see if you can back it up.”
“Promise, I can.”
Only a hum leaves your throat before your sip pauses you. “I’ll be upstairs packing your suitcase.”
“Thank you!” he calls out as you push towards the stairs.
“Yeah, yeah, just pay up, Irwin.”
Ashton watches your exit, the stairs taking you further and further from sight. It feels like it’s bubbling up his chest. All the words he’s held onto for years. But if he’s going to be honest, this might be the most selfish thing he’s going to embark on.
You sigh as you enter Ashton’s bedroom. His closet door is open, suitcase splayed on the floor. Inside of the case, you can see his toiletry bag, clothes stacked neatly inside and a couple pairs of shoes on the floor outside the cas. You assume this is all the stuff he’s taking with him on tour. It’s a scene you're familiar with, having grown fond of the ritual as well.
You can’t shake the soft echo of Ashton’s voice earlier, I’ll take it.
It’s eating away at your tongue. What will Ashton take? It certainly couldn’t be just one extra show you’d catch. It certainly wasn’t that. But there was something desperate and earnest in his voice. You think it might mean more. You want it to mean more. The crush on Ashton started slow, so slow you almost can’t pinpoint when it surfaced. But you know it had surfaced.
You longed for his touch and when he was around, you felt like everything made sense. Even if it didn’t actually make sense, there’s a sense of comfort in his presence that slows your racing mind. You don’t have butterflies, but it’s a warm feeling buzzing beneath your skin. A kind of calm that cuts through the noise.
Ashton could have his pick of whomever. Its a fact made possible by his occupation and his good looks help too. Yet, you’ve noticed a decreasing lack of conversation surrounding relationships. You weren’t sure if he was looking less for them or if he was just keeping that information from you out of respect. You never hated that he talked about other women. You’d sort of grown accustomed to that topic, having talked Ashton off many ledges about love in the midst of drama, familial trauma with relationships, and his own stubbornness.
You’re not less of a suspect about the topic either. You stopped talking so much about your own love life with Ashton as well. Part of it due to its slow death. With work and your crush on Ashton you sort of resigned yourself to a state of limbo--temporarily at least. You know you can’t linger on this crush and unknown forever. But you hadn’t been so bold as to bring it up before.
Perhaps, it was time to breach that line again.
The clack of Ashton’s slippers on his floors lets you know he’s moving up the stairs and closer to the bedroom. You keep your focus on the tuck of his jeans into the bottom of the suitcase. Your heart races though, the closer and closer Ashton gets.
Would you really bring up this conversation now? Two days before tour? It was beyond shitty timing. Yet, opportunity feels like it’s slipping through your fingers if you don’t make a move now. Like if you don’t say something now you won’t say something ever. You’ll resign yourself to swallowing back down everything you’ve been brewing over in the ten minutes you’ve had apart from Ashton.
“What’s the diagnosis, doc?” Ashton teases, slipping out of his house shoes. His descent beside you on the floor is a little slow and he groans just a hair as he gets down.
“Bad knees,” you return with a laugh, taking a shirt from the pile to fold and roll.
“You’re a fucking comedian,” Ashton huffs. He takes another one of his shirts and is acutely aware that he should probably handle his undergarments to spare you.
It falls quiet around the two of you. You’re focused now on folding, rolling, tucking into luggage. You run your fingers over the items. “Got enough bottoms? I’m not sure how often you’ll be near a washer and dryer.”
“We find ways,” Ashton laughs. “Also I’m counting the pants I’m wearing on the first flight, so yeah, I’m good.”
“PJ’s?”
“A couple sets to swap out,” Ashton answers, lifting up to display some shorts and t-shirts beneath his normal attire.
“Space for souvenirs?”
Ashton laughs. “Take me for a rookie, baby?”
“I don’t know, maybe.” It falls quiet again. The scruff’s grown thicker and now might be enough to constitute a beard. “Going to let the beard grow out or shave it?”
Ashton shrugs. “I’ve got some shaving stuff packed just in case I choose otherwise. It’ll only need a couple days to grow back,” he laughs.
Now, as the two of you lock gazes, you see something swimming in Ashton’s eyes. His brows are pulled together. “Everything okay?” you ask. Though the two of you are separated by a suitcase, you still inch closer.
“Can-can I ask you something?”
You nod. “Anything.” And it’s so easy to say that. Because you mean it. Ashton can ask you anything and you’ll answer it. But you’re not even thinking what that might mean to someone else until Ashton’s stumbling over his own words. A man normally so confident, worrying his lips over and over with his teeth.
“I just--I know we’ve been friends for a while and with the tour coming up so soon, I’m not sure this is even fair to ask now.” Ashton pauses. He wants to take the knot of your brows as rejection but he watches for a moment longer and the pieces are clicking. Your eyes narrow, then widen like the bulb might’ve just gone off even before he’s gotten all the words out. “I don’t-I don’t want to ruin anything! I just need to ask.”
The possibility you hadn’t fully wanted to let yourself consider seems to be crash landing into your lip. If you’d conjured up this moment, you were afraid that you’d give it too much weight and care about it a bit too much. You worried that if you did open the door it would slam close, so you let yourself just think, but never dream.
“Ashton, I’m going to ask this because I just need it explicit. What are you asking?”
A beat. Then two.
Ashton moves the suitcase top up and over to shut the half packed suitcase close. He moves closer to you, taking your hands. “I want to ask if I should ask for a romantic relationship with you if the answer might be yes? I-I know we have a lot to work out and I’m gone for 4 months in two days. But, god, I had to ask. I have to ask.”
There’s a lot of unknowns. It’s jumping off the deep end. But the things you do know is that you and Ashton have had years. That surely had to count for something. “It-it could be.” The words make your own teeth chatter for a second. Your guts hurt at the thought that you might even be inching closer to something.
Ashton’s palm is large--it swallows your cheek as he brings your face up closer. Your foreheads brush and you can smell the garlic from your food and the subsequent mint you’re sure Ashton snuck on the way up here.
His smile radiates over his entire face. You can feel the heat of it ghosting over your face and you smile too. “It could be?”
“It could be. I like you. A lot. You make me feel safe. But you’re leaving so soon and I don’t know if right now I can say anything definitely.”
Ashton’s lips brush over the tip of your nose. “I know. I’m sorry I didn’t ask anything sooner. But please know I’m happy at the possibility. We’ll talk. I promise.”
As Ashton draws back, you surge forward, locking him in with a hand on the back of his neck. Ashton had asked but still you need the words. “Promise me we’ll talk at least weekly while you’re on tour? Promise me that there’s a possibility back?”
“I promise there’s a possibility. I mean, more than that too. But it’s--it’s not something you just waltz into. We’ll talk. Weekly at the absolutely least.”
Ashton swears his chest is going to burst when you kiss the tip of his nose. His fingers curl and he wants to do nothing more than to take your waist into his hands, kiss you until his lungs burn. But he won’t do that. The two of you had only promised an exploration, something to talk about more in depth, nothing full fledged. Ashton can’t lie that he doesn’t take that promise to bed like treasure. He can’t lie that he doesn’t lets it bury into his chest. He can’t lie that his dreams don’t water that hope.
He can’t lie that when he wakes to a text from you, Take care of yourself today, with a red heart instead of the pink ones that something ike joy, or maybe just a stronger hope, blossoms.
Your phone shakes and you pull the glasses off your face with a huff. You’d been buried into your laptop trying to read over the headlines about your client and you already know it’s going to be a mess, yet this is all you have just a mess.
Ashton’s name greets you on the screen and your bubble of frustration shrinks. “Long time, no see, stranger,” you tease, taking in the shaky and choppy picture of Ashton.
“Hey, stranger,” he teases. You can tell by the way his hair sticks to his forehead he’s recently either gotten down with a show. “What’s it like on the west coast?” he asks.
“Sunny and on the verge of collapse.”
“Verge of collapse? Your client?” Ashton questions.
“Isn’t it always? I’ll figure it out, I know. Just buried right now in tabloid bullshit. How was the show over there? How’s the east coast?”
“It’s a little cloudy. Heard some stuff about potential hurricanes. I’ll be glad to be further west next week.”
You nod, scotting down a little in your chair. “This time of year is hurricane season. Must be an active year though if you’re catching wind of it.”
“Our tour manager said the same thing. We’ll be getting out just in the knick of time. Just worried about the folks who live out here. Hurricanes don’t sound fun.”
You shake your head. “Mother Nature is always to be feared--fires to hurricanes.”
“Ain’t that the truth.”
“How are the shows though?” you ask, knowing that you may not get all the time you want with Ashton on the phone so you try to get the best of it you can.
“They’re fucking phenomenal. Amazing. Not quite the same as when you’re around, but they’re going really well.”
“And you’re taking care of yourself? If I ever get another text from you about being in a fucking hospital, I swear to God.”
Ashton laughs, a kind of laugh that you know is a bit uncomfortable, but he’s hearing you. “No, no, you won’t. Promise.”
“Good, I do not need a repeat.”
“No repeats. But question, is one of your dream dates still to get dressed up to go visit a museum?”
You give a pause, trying to assess with the somewhat clear picture of Ashton on your phone. You know you’d briefly mentioned it once, maybe twice. But you didn’t think it was enough for Ashton to still carry around the knowledge. You nod though at the question. “It is.”
“Why’d you say it like that? Are you getting suspicious of me?” Ashton teases.
“Maybe just a little. Can I ask why you’re asking?”
“If you must know,” Ashton starts, accent morphing into an almost decent English accent, “I am attempting to court you. Dates are a part of such activities.”
Your laughter falls easily, cheeks heating at the thought. “You do not have to say it like that,” you huff with a smile. “Is your dream date still a picnic and painting?”
“And if it is?” Ashton questions, a bit of a tease lilting his voice.
“Then I’m buying paints, good sir. As simple as that.”
“I can’t argue with that. Okay, two good things about your day? Yeah?” It’s a thing--whenever you talk to Ashton now you two share two good things about your day. It’s a nice way to break up the conversation, spin the frustration of the day into something positive. You recline into the cushion of your couch contemplating your day. After you share the good things you ask Ashton about his. Of course he mentions the show.
Conversation winds through dreams--literal and things about that you want out of life. It’s nice to just let the conversation go where it wants. Ashton mentions being inspired on tour for new scents for his candle company and you let that take you to conversations about the smells of your childhood home. Ashton teases that he’ll have to make that another scent. When you ask about the smells of Ashton’s childhood, you notice he gets a little quiet. It’s a slow answer and when it comes, you listen to all the weight he gives the words.
“Mum--she did the best she could you know. I think if I had to describe the smell of my childhood home it’d be a bit of vanilla, grass because god the house was always brimming with our ruckus.”
“Grass after it rains is a nice smell,” you offer after Ashton’s bout of silence. “We don’t have to push it. I appreciate you sharing what you did.”
“No, no, I don’t mind. Just hard sometimes.”
“I get it. It can be hard sometimes. But I appreciate you listening. It means a lot, you know? That you’re willing to let me work through it at my own pace.”
“Life’s hard enough,” you concede. “No need for me to make it harder.”
“But we have Dallas to look forward too.”
You nod. “Yes, we do have Dallas. I’m excited.”
“Good, me too.” Voices echo from further down and Ashton bids his goodbyes, sad and quiet but you ensure to send a message as follow up, I’m here, when you need to call or text or vent. Got plenty of space. You attach a picture of your bed you splayed across the queen sized mattress.
Ashton’s response comes about twenty minutes later, God, that looks comfy as hell. Thank you. A red heart is attached too.
Ashton’s not one to freak--he’s done plenty of it on his own and knows it’ll get him nowhere. But the night before the Dallas show, his phone shakes. Your name lights up across the screen. He thinks it’s just about tomorrow. Maybe an inner monologue about you trying to decide what to wear. But when the message starts with, I’m so sorry, Ashton knows it’s bad.
He doesn't even read the full thing, pushes back from the bar counter and presses to call your number. It rings, and rings, and rings in his ear. “Please pick up,” he mutters to himself.
“Hi, I’m sorry I can’t answer the phone right now. Please leave a message with your name and number and I’ll be sure to return your call,” your voicemail greets Ashton.
He listens for the beep before speaking, “Hey, it’s me, Ashton. I-I admittedly only read like two percent of your text, but I wanted to call, to see if everything is okay. Please give me a call back when you can. Please. I’m worried.”
There’s so much more to say but Ashton can’t get his tongue to cooperate so he leaves it at that and hangs up. Pushing the hair off his forehead with one hand, Ashton swipes back to your text. I’m so sorry about this. Currently at the ER and will probably be on crutches tomorrow thanks to an ill placed step on some gravel. I’ll be sure to update you and call as soon as I know for certain.
You’re hurt, but not terribly so and that’s a win. It’s not enough to quiet the thunder of Ashton’s heart. What had you done? Where had you been? He can only think to type out, Which hospital are you at? Are you going to be okay?
“Hey, Ash, everything alright?” Calum asks. His voice is soft as his question falls. Ashton’s not sure how he even catches Calum speaking if he’s honest, even as he gives a head shake no to the question. “What happened?”
“Just-I need them to text me back. Figure out how far the hospital is from here. I can think then.”
“Yeah, of course. But it sounds bad? Who’s hurt? When you get the name, I’ll see how quick we can get an Uber.”
Panic does no one any good, but Ashton’s not going to talk himself off the ledge of panic when it comes to you. He waits and waits and Calum waits with him, finally getting the pieces of your text in relation to a potential fall. The two men hover in the lobby of the hotel, drinks long forgotten by now. Though Ashton felt the waning of adrenaline leaving his body from the show just a couple hours before, he feels wired. He watches and watches his screen for it to only come alive by the shake of his hands.
I’m sure you just got done with the houston show and would probably prefer some rest. It’s a pretty bad sprain, I’ll be okay, reads the text after a long 45 minutes.
His fingers shake and he nearly can’t get a steady enough press to dial your number. The phone rings--once, then twice. Your voice is the sweetest sound he could ever hear as it floats in through the receiver, “Hi, Ashton. I’m sorry to give you such a scare, I know.”
“You’re okay?”
“Yeah, yeah, I’m okay. Nasty fall. Really bad sprain. It’ll be annoying for the next couple of days. But I’m not dead.”
“Which hospital are you at?”
“Uh, Baylor something or another. I’m getting discharged now actually. I thought I’d be able to call after the initial run of test but they diagnosed it fast. And a lot sort of happened before I could get my hands on the phone again.”
“It’s okay. I’m just glad you’re okay. Do you have someone that can get you back to your hotel safely?” He needs that answer to be yes. He’s not sure where you are though and that’s the thing that’s killing him. Ashton does have the name of the hotel you’re staying at, as you shared your itinerary with him earlier in the week to see if you’d be at the same hotel. Your hotel is about 10 minutes or so from his. Happenstance you both knew but right now it feels like a godsend.
“Yeah, yeah, I’ve got someone that can drive me.”
“I’m going to meet you there okay?” You start to protest but Ashton’s quicker. “I know you probably don’t need me. But please, just let me get eyes on you so I know you’re not going to keel over, okay?”
You sigh. “Fine, Irwin. But you better be there before me.”
A smile lifts his cheeks. “I will be. Promise.”
“Are they at Baylor University still? I got the address,” Calum offers when Ashton hangs up. “And yes, yes I was eavesdropping,” he laughs at the pull of Ashton’s brow.
Though Ashton won’t admit this, he’s glad for Calum’s care. “Nah, no, they’re about to head back to their hotel. Getting discharged now. I’m-I’m going to go there and I’ll meet up with you guys for the truck in the afternoon before it leaves for the venue.”
“Sounds good. Keep us updated though? Should anything else happen?”
“Of course, man. Of course.”
Ashton’s quick back to his room to grab his bags. They’re not many, thankfully. All the while he tracks his drivers approach on his phone as he waits at the elevator door. It’s a slow descent, or at least it feels that way but the doors open and Ashton’s back into the lobby. Just as his feet hit the concrete of the sidewalk a car eases to a stop.
“Picking up for Ashton?” the driver asks through the passenger side window.
It’s a quick ride and Ashton thanks the driver before climbing back out into the thick humid Texas air. It’s heavy on his skin but all Ashton continues to think about is getting into that lobby before you. The glass doors are heavy but they reveal a mostly quiet lobby. No one at the front desk and he settles off to the side. Ashton halfway considers calling you to see how far you are, but before the thought can blossom anymore than a hair, the doors open again.
Someone holds open the door and there’s a click and clack that’s distinctly hollow. “Thanks,” you state, working the crutches up and forward.
Not what Ashton expected but you’re whole--together, in front of him. A wrap on your left ankle. “You’re late,” Ashton huffs, a faux annoyance. But it’s all you need to grin. The ache in his ribs eases.
“I’m moving a little slower than normal.” The two of you meet in the middle, or maybe less than that as Ashton does cover more ground than you. But it’s not like you care. Though you are mindful that you are still sort of on the clock. And Ashton catches on too, when you don’t lean in for a hug or more.
“Do-do you have any bags you need me to carry?” he asks.
“Personal effects,” you tease, throwing a look over to Savannah who’s got your shoe in a plastic bag from the hospital. You take the moment though to introduce the small group you’re with--mostly other staff on the team. “Everyone, Ashton,” you conclude with a nod of your head. It’s a quick conversation to ensure you’re all okay and set to go. Once you confirm that you’re good and that Ashton won’t let you do anything to further hurt yourself, the group slowly thins.
You and Ashton remain as the others move towards either the hotel bar or the elevators. You wait, trying to ensure that the group is gone before you sigh, shoulders rounding with the action. “I hope your heart will be able to withstand the show tomorrow,” you tease.
“Oh, quit it. I’m not that old.”
“I don’t know you told you were old anyway.”
“Oh, society says it everyday. Aren’t you listening?:
“Absolutely the fuck not,” you laugh.
Ashton’s glad to hear the sound. “Yeah, I thought you might say that, let’s get you to your room yeah.”
It’s a hobble, still unsteady on the crutches a little but thankfully once you’re inside the elevator, you know it’s a quick walk to your room. Ashton retrieves the keycard from your wallet for you and holds the door open. The room is cool--like all hotel rooms seem to be as they surely must double for freezers with the temperatures they are set at. But it’s clear that maybe you hadn’t been planning to be out--your laptop’s still on the bed. Your bag rest on the lounge chair open, clothes peeking out from the depths of it.
Ashton drops his bag next to yours.
“So what happened?” he asks.
“We got back around 8 or so, a much too early night if I’m honest. So, I did a little work to pass the time. Then around 9 Devin, the stylist, asks if I want to go out and grab a couple drinks. I say yes, we’re sort of bar hopping to find the right vibe. I had like two drinks max at the bars we’d found. But on the way to another bar, coming down off the sidewalk, I just misjudged the distance or something. All I know is that I was up one minute then I was down.”
Ashton’s gentle as he kneels, taking a quiet moment to inspect your foot. “You ought to be elevating it,” he offers.
“I sort of want to change, but I need to shower too. And that’s just awkward all the way around,” you laugh. “Haven’t even taken me on a date yet and I’m already on the verge of having to ask you to help me undress because of my stupid ankle.”
“They don’t mean that,” Ashton directs to your injured joint. “And I am working on that date, you just need to give me a few months.” Though Ashton hopes he can do it sooner. Though with this injury he’s not sure if his plans of stealing you away one day during the break will pan out still.
You know you should be responding. Ashton’s gazing up at you from practically between your legs as if waiting for an instruction, but you’re too caught up in the way his face holds his beard, honey eyes dripping still as they look at you. “You’re handsome, anyone ever tell you that?”
“Some might say you just did.”
“Well, you are,” you return more confident. “You’re very handsome.” Maybe it’s just easier now. You can freely admit to such attraction because you know the possibility exist that you and Ashton have more. You know the tour is just a temporary thing, but it gives you two something to work from. Rather than just the comfort of ease and accessibility, you and Ashton have to make conscious efforts to communicate while he’s away. The discomfort makes you work. It reminds you that nothing worth having has always been easy.
Your fingers trace the line of Ashton’s jaw, from the bottom of his ear to his chin. Feels like his body is melting but he remains frozen, kneeling on the thin carpeted floor of this hotel room. It’s a sort of limbo that if Ashton were to ever work through a metaphor, he might call it the seconds in a summer blaze with ice cream. You know the ice cream won’t stay solid forever, but in the first few moments, everything is as it always will be. The ice cream will still have a shape and the sun will still have a ray, but those paths had not crossed just yet--not long enough to have an effect. Yet, Ashton knows that while he holds still now, while he waits to see if you say or do something more, he is the sun ray. He will cause an effect.
“You, however, sweetheart, are so incredibly dangerous,” Ashton whispers.
“I haven’t done anything.”
“Besides absolutely wiping out and being a danger to your literal self, I do have to say that you are dangerous because if you keep scratching at my beard like this you are going to open a whole new can of worms that we will not be able to get back inside.”
You know it’s a warning. You don’t think you want to heed it though. “Just a kiss?” you ask.
Will it ever be just a kiss, Ashton does not know. “You speak of me undressing you to shower and change and rest your ankle that is still injured by the way, and ask for just a kiss?”
You nod. “Yeah, just a kiss.”
Ashton pushes up, hand capturing your cheek as his lips capture yours. Your lips taste a bit sour, maybe the drink or two you’d mentioned before. But Ashton thinks he could swallow the taste and tattoo it into his lungs. He would tattoo it into his lungs if such a thing were possible.
You swear you’ve never been held in such a more confident and gentle way as Ashton pulls up closer into your body. His hands find your waist, a grip that pushes into the flesh of you that makes you whimper. It’s a pathetic sound and you can’t help but laugh at yourself, interrupting the kiss. Your kiss ends with an echoing pant between the two of you, nose to nose as you hold his face between your palms.
“You can make fun of me for that later, understand?” you huff.
Ashton’s laughter falls out more like a groan when you brush your hands down his chest. “I don’t really think I have ground to talk, so.” Ashton presses another kiss, lighter, but still long against your lips. “I just--I’m a little ill prepared to go any further tonight.”
“Are you, Ashton Irwin, rockstar and drummer for the hottest band, 5 Seconds of Summer, telling me that you do not have condoms?” you snort.
“It may be that. In all fairness, the spare I had I had to end up passing along to a couple of the other guys so, it’s not that I didn’t have them.”
“You just don’t have anymore,” you conclude for him.
“Exactly.”
“No worries. My spare expired, so same boat. Besides, I did ask only for a kiss.”
“That you surely did. And I think this is our last stop on this train lest we decide to risk it tonight.”
You giggle, fingers playing just a little at the hair at the nape of Ashton’s neck. “I think this is my stop anyway.”
“Can I ask for one more kiss though?” Ashton’s grin is small and sheepish, like he knows he’s asking for something he shouldn’t. But you can’t say no as you capture his lips one last time. It’s softer now, rather than holding for fear of life lost, now you know you can taste and taste without worrying about losing your chance.
Though it should be awkward to get yourself changed and cleaned up, you find that it’s easy. Undoubtedly, it’s intimate to have Ashton help you get your pants on and off, but it’s easy to laugh and converse around your work. By the time you’re both settled in for the night, your leg slightly elevated thanks to some of the spare pillows, the blue hue of the TV screen is just an accent to you and Ashton’s laughter,
“You had to have a crush on at least one cartoon character,” you huff.
“No, I’m normal.”
“Ashton, you are anything but normal. So just fess up. Was it Lola Bunny?”
Ashton laughs. “No, it was not Lola Bunny. Who even is that?”
You ignore Ashton’s question and pry for an answer listing Roxanne from A Goofy Movie as another potential. It gets shot down immediately. “C’mon, Irwin! Just give me an answer.”
Your response is only Ashton pressing a kiss to your cheek with an adamant but giggled filled, “Goodnight.”
It’s not what you imagined how the first time you shared a bed Ashton would go, but you can’t think to change anything about it now. It’d always be a story to tell, one to hold close to your heart in the future. You reach over, finding Ashton’s hand easily under the cover. His response is immediate as he threads his fingers through yours.
The TV remains on, a quiet hum and over the soft music of some commercial you’re sure you catch the rumble of a snore. “Thanks, for being here,” you offer. Even if Ashton is still asleep you need to say it.
“You’re more than welcome.”
you stared out the passenger window feeling like you had just lost everything in your body. the only thing you felt was numbness. no pain, no sadness, nothing. you had cried out all your tears, you were left numb
ashton looks over at you from the driver's seat, his heart aches knowing how hurt you are, and how he made you like this. it broke him. ashton was your best friend and he tried to do everything in his power to be there for you and protect you.
but he just couldn’t protect you from this. from him.
“stop blamin yourself.” you manage to get out, looking over your shoulder at him. he looks confused, you had been silent the whole car ride and he was sure how you know his thoughts without him verbally telling you.
“what?” he questioned.
“you’re blaming yourself for this” you stated, followed by a drawn-out sigh and looking back towards the window. “you always do it when something happens. you couldn’t have known he’d do this.” you hear him sigh, but it was a long drawn one. “i should’ve thought. i was there, i was on tour. i could’ve stopped him. i just..” you hear the frustration in his voice and it makes you feel so small.
“ash..” you trail off but he interjects, “no, y/n!” he punches the steering wheel, “i had all the opportunity to stop him if i had just known he..that he’d do that to you i wouldn’t have let him do it.” his voice breaks, a lump getting caught in his throat.
“stop it, ashton.” you sit up in the passenger seat, now facing him. “i..” you breathe, feeling that lump in your own throat now. “it isn’t your fault, you couldn’t have known.” you drop your head into your hands. tears want to fall but you had cried out everything in your body. “he’s… he's always been this way. i should’ve known better than to trust him being gone for most of the year.”
you watched as his knuckles turned white, gripping the steering wheel. ashton shook his head, “no..it just isn’t fair to you.” he was beyond mad, he was furious. he’s pissed that his best friend, or who he thought was, would do something like that to someone as precious as you were. “i know, ash. but there’s nothing we can do now. it’s done.”
calum loved you. at least, he thought he did. he bought you a ring, thinking it was the right call. he loves your laugh in the middle of the night when he made a stupid joke, he loves how much you admired his work and supported him.
he loved how you looked when you went out to a party. how you’d dress up for him. but deep down he wasn’t in love with you. deep down he knew his heart belonged to someone else.
his distance began to become noticeable after a couple of months. it seemed he had already checked himself out of the relationship a while ago. you were left self-conscious wondering why he didn’t love you anymore, or why he abandoned you, mentally.
you knew something was going on with him, but you never thought it would be something that would ruin your relationship or what the two of you had planned.
you weren’t expecting the call from your best friend, brandy, to call you one morning saying she was sorry you had to find out like this.
you looked at the link she sent you which had detailed photos of your fiancé and another woman, spotted many times.
in that moment, everything fell into place. his absence, how he suddenly didn’t treat you like his partner anymore. it was because he was seeing someone behind your back, actively.
“cal?” you speak up, walking outside to the patio where he sat smoking a cigarette.
“hm?” he hums, looking up from his phone eyebrows slightly raised.
“what’s this?” you question as you shove your phone into his face.
he takes a moment to examine the pictures and you see the look of realization and relief wash over his face. “well?” you interrogated.
“who told you?”
you blink, laughing dryly. “brandy just called me”
“oh.” he answers, then falling silent and goes back to his phone.
“‘oh’? is that really all you have to say?” you ask, turning your phone off and stuffing it into your pocket.
“what do you want me to say?” he asks, not bothering to look at you.
“that’s it i’m leaving.” you say, walking back inside from the patio
he’s silent, staring at his cigarette. “where are you going?”
“anywhere but here. i’ll call ashton.”
he scoffs, taking a long drag of the cigarette and blowing the smoke from his lips. “it’s always ashton” he says under his breath.
you soon around and stare blankly at him, “what?” unable to even come up with the right words.
calum looks at you with cold eyes, “it’s always ashton. you’re always by his side or he’s always by yours.” he dunks the cigarette in the ashtray putting it out. “pretty sure you were screwing him behind my back”
you dryly laugh, “i gave you my life calum hood, and you ruined it. i trusted you with everything in me because that’s what a good fiancée does. she trusts her partner to not cheat on her while he’s on tour!”
he laughs dryly running his hand over his head. “just tell me, cal” you’re mindlessly throwing stuff into your suitcase. “tell me why is it so hard for you to love me back? why won’t you love me? i’ve given you everything.”
“i never asked you to give me everything.” he’s looking away from you, sighing heavily. “it’s not that i don’t love you. i can’t love you”
you stare at him blankly, mascara staining your cheeks. you felt like your heart had been ripped out, looking at the man you thought you had loved. the man you wanted to give everything to. “what?” you blink, and he finally looks up at you. “i can’t love you, because i love her. she’s the one i want to be with. it’s always been her, y/n….” he pauses,“i tried loving you. but you just aren’t her.”
you cover your mouth, in shock. unable to comprehend his words which struck you like a knife. “i can’t believe you..” you muttered through your tears as your turned around and began your way upstairs to the bedroom.
you can feel him following you a few steps behind, his eyes linger on your figure as you mindlessly threw clothes into your duffle bag. just enough to do you for a couple nights until you can get the rest of your stuff. “they warned me about you..and i should’ve listened” you say, not bothering to look at him.
“who?” he asks coldly. you turn around, meeting his dark eyes staring into your soul. “everyone. luke…ashton…your sister…mike..everyone.” you say, closing the duffel bag. “just don’t even worry about it now. we’re done.”
you grab the bag and begin walking past him. but, you pause looking down at your hand where the ring lays. you turn around and throw it at him. “i never want to see you again.”
he watched as you proceeded down the stairs where you exited the house. finding ashton waiting in the driveway.
ashton watched as you sat on the sofa, brows furrowed while staring at your empty ring finger. “it’s late” he says, coming up behind you. you just shrug, “can’t sleep” you hear him sigh and he walks around the sofa to take a seat next to you. you see him peer around, brushing your hair from your face. “talk to me..” he whispers.
you finally look up at him showing the makeup staining your face. “i don’t know what to say..” you croak.
he nods, “i have the guest bedroom ready for you, the bathroom is set with towels and-“ he starts but you cut him off, the pain in your chest is too great. the excruciating pain you felt every time your heart pumped made you want to throw something, you felt like your whole world was crumbling.
“i can’t be alone” you shake your head looking at him, “i..i can’t. i’m gonna go crazy..” he nods, hushing your cries. “shh, it’s okay..shh..” he pulls you in and holds you close to him. “just breathe.”
he holds you for as long as you need, his heart aches at each broken sob you let out. he holds you as tight as he can he can’t stand to see you like this.
ashton loves you. it is so easy for him to love you that it frightens him. he’s never been good at anything. but hes never wanted anything so much as he wants to hold you every waking minute. he’s at home when you’re around, he feels himself falling more and more in love with you.
ashton knows it’s wrong, he knows he shouldn’t feel this way when you’re in so much pain. he knows it’s selfish to think of himself as a savior. but he knows he isn’t.
you’re suffering and all he can think about is how much he loves you.
“cmon, we need to get you ready for bed..” he says into your hair, quietly. you nod and let him help you off the chair into the master bathroom. he sits you on the toilet as he gets you some extra clothes and towels. you sit there emotionless and when ashton returns he looks down at you, reaching for a rag, baby wipe, or something to take your makeup off with.
he succeeds, finding some makeup removers and then bends down to your level. “can i?” he asks and you nod. he nods back, opens the package takes out a wipe, and begins cleaning off your day-old makeup. you say nothing and he says nothing. just carefully removing the makeup with his gentle touch. he thought that even though you are exhausted, in pain, and very miserable you still look so beautiful.
“i’ll run the water now, i’ll leave you to get cleaned up,” he says as he stands up throwing away the used makeup remover towelette. you nod, watching as he turns the water on and connects the shower head. “if you need anything, i’ll be right outside.” he smiles, closing the door behind him.
you didn’t know how long you were sitting there, you don’t even remember undressing and stepping into the shower.
you were probably in there for close to an hour, just standing there but ashton waited for you. he occupied himself with his phone but it didn’t do much considering he was so worried for you.
when he heard the door unlock and open, his eyes shot up from the phone screen and landed on you.
you had looked so defeated, your hair was still damp and dripping on some of the clothes he had given you.
“feel better?”
you shrug, walking over and plopping down next to him on the bed. “i don’t know..” you answer just above a whisper. he nods, sighing as he stands up from the bed. “well, i’ll let you be. i’ll be across the hall-“
you cut him off, “no” you look up at him. “please, just stay. like old times.” he looks hesitant but ashton walks back over to the bed and crawls back on the bed. “of course” he says softly.
“i’d never leave you”
you continued to stay with ashton for the next few months, even though you were searching for an apartment he still insisted on having you stay. one, because he loved your company and he had just gotten so used to you being around.
he watched you heal, he helped you heal and honestly, you just weren’t ready to be alone just yet. so, he let you stay for as long as you wanted.
life had slowly begun to improve, ashton kept you afloat and made sure you were safe. he didn’t let you go one day without making sure you were doing something to occupy your mind, so you don’t slip into your mind.
often times you were sat next to ashton in the studio as you occasionally help him write songs the guys had started. you didn’t have the talents like the other four, but ashton would ask your opinion and even using some of your ideas.
you sat bored on your phone, eventually dropping it to your lap as you stare at ashton’s back as he was humming melodies to himself. you stare at all of the papers sprawled out on the table and floor, your brows furrowed reading some scribbles that were supposed to be lyrics. your eyes land on a piece of paper with the lyrics, We're together, all alone tonight So helpless from the other side So why won't you love me?
you feel tightness in your chest, your eyes gloss over with tears. all the memories of you and calum flood back and you. you drop the paper and ashton hears your sniffles and he looks up.
he’s met with your swollen and puffy eyes, “y/n?” you look up at him, and break down. broken sobs filled the studio as he rushes to your side “what is it?” he asks wrapping his arms around you, letting you cry into his chest. “why won’t he love me?” you say, followed by a loud sob stuck in your throat. “why couldn’t he love me?”
you continue to ramble incoherent sobs and ashton tries his best to soothe you. but, he knows he can’t fix everything.
you deserve so much better, even if ashton isn’t what you need. he will always love you. as he’s rubbing your back, hearing your broken sobs he feels heartbroken and helpless.
“i love you..” he says quietly into your hair.
“i love you too, ash” you say, sniffling.
ashton falls silent for a moment before sighing. “no, y/n. listen to me” he pulls you away from his chest, his hands on either side of your face as his thumbs while away your tears. “i love you” he’s looking into your eyes now, and you don’t know how to take what he’s telling you.
“i’m not asking you to love me more than just your friend, but you need to know that i do love you. you’ve been the only constant in my life, y/n. you deserve the best, even if it isn’t me. i’m not asking you to do anything you don’t want to, but you need to know.”
ashton knew it was wrong of him to drop the ball on your so suddenly, after calling it off with calum just a few months ago. ashton was sure you probably would hate him after this but he needed to get it off his chest or else he might explode.
“ash..” you sigh, your eyes close and had only hoped that this was some kind of joke, because if he had told you before getting serious with calum, you feel even more crushed hearing the confession spill from your best friends lips.
“im sorry. i really am, and i know you don’t want another relationship but i will always wait for you..” ashton follows, still looking into your eyes.
you fall silent for a moment, admiring his hazel eyes while your heart continues to ache with each beat.
“y/n?” you don’t answer, you just sigh as you shake your head. “just.. just hold me ashton. please.”
ashton pulls you in, letting your head rest against his shoulder and his finger draws circles on your back. you close your eyes, your mind is racing and you just want to turn it off.
“im sorry, y/n..” ashton’s says quietly.
Less Alone
A/N: hope you enjoy!
Pairing: Ashton Irwin x GN!Reader
Summary: Ash makes you feel less alone when your friends are less than stellar
Word Count: 1.1K
Warnings: some swearing, shitty friends
Minors DNI
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
You should’ve known. Your whole life, you’d been the one left out of parties, or plans, or group trips, hell even group chats. You were just never included.
And you’d learned to cope - got used to being alone. And eventually, it stopped hurting so much. You were comfortable in your own presence and spending time with yourself, and then, you didn’t have to be. Because you had Ashton.
Ashton was the one person in your life who made you feel included in every possible aspect. He asked for your opinion on everything from his shoes to new music he was working on. And he never made a decision without your input, even if it was just what you were having for dinner or what movie to watch.
But you still had other friends. A whole group of them, actually. Rosie, Liam, and Ollie. The four of you did just about everything together, and for the first time, you felt truly included in a group.
You went out to eat at least twice a week, constantly messaged in the group chat, and even had plans to take a trip in a few weeks. It was new territory, for sure, but you were having so much fun navigating it that you didn’t mind.
Until, of course, the inevitable happened.
It wasn’t that big of a deal, really. At least that’s what you’d been telling yourself. All they did was go out to eat without you. At your favorite restaurant. In the middle of the worst week of your life - which they were all well aware of.
It has to be me. Otherwise it wouldn’t keep happening.
You stared at your phone, the picture of the three of them smiling back at you doing nothing to cheer you up. Ashton was still at the studio, he’d called you earlier to let you know that he’d be home a little later that night, so you were left to deal with this entirely on your own.
You texted the group chat, doing your best to pretend you had no idea where they were.
Hey, guys! I’ve got a bit of free time, anyone wanna come over for a little while???
Rosie: Sorry, hun! I’m all tangled up at the office right now, big project coming up
Liam: Yeah, I’m currently on a hike with a few friends, and we’re not gonna be back anytime soon
Ollie: I’d love to if I wasn’t walking into the gym as we speak. Sry luv :(
So now they weren’t just excluding you, they were lying straight to your face about it. You felt a tear roll down your cheek and you immediately wiped it away, doing your best to pretend like this had absolutely no effect on you.
But soon enough, you couldn’t hold them in. They fell and fell and fell until you heard the door open.
“I’m home, sweets! Thought we could try that new Thai restaurant for dinner if your up for-”
He cut himself off at the sight of your tears.
“Hey, honey, what’s going on?” He asked, sitting down next to you. You wrapped yourself around him, burying your face into his chest as you cried.
“I don’t know why it happens every time, Ash, but it does. It has to be me. I have to be the one pushing them away or something.” You complained.
Ashton was confused until he caught sight of your phone lying face up on the couch next to him. He took in what he was seeing and immediately understood.
“Oh, dove, it’s not you. You just happen to find the shittiest people on the planet.” He said, attempting to comfort you. It helped to some measure because he felt more than heard you let out a giggle.
“They’re not shitty people.” You commented.
“Yeah, well, either way, fuck them. It’ll just be you and I tonight, alright?” You nodded against his chest, pulling back to look up at him.
You smiled, pressing a kiss to his lips. “Thank you.” You mumbled.
“Anything for you.”
A few minutes later, Ash was ordering takeout while you were debating what movie to watch.
“Babe, do you want to watch Coraline or Pride and Prejudice?” You asked when he walked back into the room.
“Oh, Coraline, for sure.” He responded.
You laughed, clicking on the movie but pausing it before it started.
“Food should be here in about 20 minutes.”
“Perfect.” You grabbed his hand, dragging him upstairs and into the master bathroom.
He watched as you dug through one of your drawers, eventually pulling out two face masks.
“Yes.” He said before you could get a word out. “100% yes.”
You smiled, placing one package down on the counter before opening the other one, gingerly applying it to Ashton’s face.
“Well don’t you look so handsome?” You playfully teased, smoothing out a wrinkle with your finger.
“I should hope so.” He said, admiring himself in the mirror. You hopped up onto the counter, watching as he opened the second one and put it on your face this time.
“How long do we leave these on for?” He asked you, picking up the empty package.
“Um, probably about 15 minutes.” You responded. He nodded, and the two of you made your way back downstairs.
15 minutes later, the masks were taken off, just a few moments before the doorbell rang to signify the arrival of your dinner.
You made yourself comfortable on the couch as Ashton got the food, admiring him as he walked into the living room.
“Are you looking at me like that because I have food?” He playfully asked you.
You shook your head.
“I’m looking at you like that because I love you and I appreciate everything you’re doing for me.”
His face flushed, and he smiled as he set down the food. He walked around the coffee table, crouching down in front of where you were sitting on the couch.
“I’d do this for you even if you weren’t having a tough week. I’d do whatever you asked of me whenever you asked me to. I love you so much, sweets, and all I want in this world is to make you as happy as I possibly can.”
You were crying for the second time that night, but (thankfully) for a much different reason. You leaned forward, connecting your lips once again, trying to convey as much love as you could through the kiss.
When you pulled away, Ashton pressed a quick kiss to your nose.
“Now, how about we eat some food and watch a movie and pretend like none of that bad stuff ever happened?”
