It’s too early in the morning to be awake, especially considering she currently has the best excuse for sleeping in that she’s had maybe ever. But Ashley can’t will her body back into unconsciousness, not with her stomach unsettled and her mind racing. The morning sickness had finally started to leave her alone a month or so ago, and today, she’s not sure she can blame the nausea on the hormones.

Outside, the sky looks like it’s lightening up, but then again, Ashley knows Hollow Earth can never quite replicate the classic circadian rhythm. She sits up in bed, huffing as one of the twins kicks her in the ribs, and looks toward her clock on the nightstand. 06:01. Declan and his team will be reporting back to the surface soon.

Just as the thought runs through her head, she hears a knock on the door. “Ash?” Just her name has her chest seizing up. She was hoping he wouldn’t come find her just to say goodbye. “I made you some tea.”

She tucks her legs up beneath her as Declan slips into the room. “You shouldn’t have,” she says, but she still takes the cup he holds out.

“Did I get it right?” he asks, watching her take her first sip.

He did, but Ashley shakes her head. “Look, Declan— you don’t have to do this."

"Make you tea?" He raises his eyebrows. "Just wanted to do something nice."

"Not the damn tea," she grumbles. "I meant, you don't have to, like, delay. Dawdle. Try and say some meaningful goodbye. You have commitments on the surface, I get it. We've barely said two words while you've been here, anyway. Let's just... go back to the way things were."

Declan scowls, and it occurs to Ashley that she's kind of being a dick. But she hadn't asked for any of this, and she certainly isn't going to beg him to stay.

"Ashley," he says, a note of tension in his voice, "I'm not going anywhere."

It's her turn to frown as she struggles further upright, leaning toward him. "What are you talking about?"

“I’m not going back to London,” he says, and her stomach flips. “Not right away, at least. We need… time.” He looks down at her stomach. “And we’ve already lost too much of it.”

Ashley’s shoulders slump. She hasn’t even apologized to him, for not even trying to reach out. But the words stick on her tongue.

“Well,” she mumbles, “I guess a cup of tea is a good start.”

Declan sits next to her on the bed and reaches out for her hand. She lets him take it. One of the kids elbows her kidney.

“I’m not gonna make it easy on you,” she warns him.

He actually laughs at her, the asshole. “You never have.”

doing a sanctuary rewatch and still after all these years cannot fathom why ashley was killed off. the writers could have done some other heartwrenching plotline without offing her. it was just so unnecessary and only to replace her with kate.

was it because magnus wasn't the typical mothering type and viewers were complaining about the dynamic?

Rewatching the second half of the Sanctuary pilot, and... I'm only a few minutes in and already have so many thoughts:

1. Magnus and Henry's dynamic is... So weird. Like, it's really obvious how much the writers are still figuring out, because there's not really the mother-son dynamic that shows up even in episode 7. It's just... Weird.

2. Ashley and Henry, however, are Definitely Already Siblings. "I'm just going out to get some... Feminine products." "Yeah, feminine like a crate of Uzis?" "Dude, do you want me to get us some toys, or not?" "Hey, I never saw you."

3. When Will is talking to Alexi, at a certain point it dawns on him that Alexi just wants to feel safe. Everything he says after that? You can absolutely see that it was stuff he heard after his mom's death, when HE was in therapy as a kid. It's a real moment of him getting healing and getting to pass on the healing he once received, and as many times as I've watched this episode, I never caught it until now.

4. Also, Ryan Robbins (Henry) is listed as a guest star.

🇬🇧 I really love Sanctuary but sometimes I wish it wasn't made in 2008-2011. You know the dark and yellowish foundation, concealed lips, weird sweaters, french manicure, low waist jeans etc.

Poor Magnus and Nikola with yellow foundation, sometimes even with John Druitt.

Or that horrible blue and black sweater that Will wears.

Is there anything you don't like about Sanctuary? If yes, what is it?

🇮🇹 Io adoro Sanctuary ma alle volte vorrei che non fosse uscito dal 2008-2011. Il fondotinta troppo scuro e giallognolo, le labbra con il correttore, strane felpe, la french alle unghie, i pantaloni a vita bassa etc.

I poveri Magnus e Nikola con la faccia giallognola dal fondotinta, alle volte succede anche con John.

O quell'orribile felpa sfumata dal blu al nero che indossa Will.

Ashley's "Mom" is so heartbreaking... Whenever I watch it I can't help thinking that it's literary the last real thing about Ashley that left in Helen's memory.

I even included it in one of my SPN/Sanctuary crossovers as Helen's post trauma and as secondary Ashley's trauma after her reviving.

These crossovers are a sort of fix-its probably.

The first one is about Tesla's reviving because after his death (it's au, yes) he can't go through the Veil because he's partly a vampire. Dean and his friend Ketch are helping him by offering to revive him to the God (who is not Chuck, it's post canon).

The second one is about a deepening friendship between Dean, Tesla, Helen and Ketch and dealing with abnormal's post death places of Sanctuary's world. SPN's lore has not a special place for abnormals. After their deaths humans go to Heaven or Hell, monsters go to Purgatory and that's it. Abnormals - even as being non violent creatures - supposed be to Purgatory also. In my fics, the God 2.0 found it out by Helen Magnus via Dean and fixing that. Firstly Ahsley goes to Purgatory also (she's dying as a vampire), but she was a kind of possesed and cannot make her conscious choices (including to be vampirised) and the God 2.0 accept it. He's giving her 2 options: she can go to Heaven or she can go down to Earth as a revived person. Ashley chooses the reviving, of course, and returns home. She's happy warm welcomed but later she's forced to deal with Helen's trauma (who's reacting at her "mom" with particular expression on her face) and her own torment of conscience as result of her own post trauma. Both of them are healing, of course.

95 + Ashley?

set in the AT canon s5 with Ashley alive and well in the Hollow Earth Sanctuary. I’m operating under the assumption that Ashley still has her abnormal abilities from the experiments performed on her. this takes place soon after the Old City Sanctuary is destroyed and everyone begins to settle in in Hollow Earth. CW for blood and minor derealization

“Get back!” Ashley lunges at the screeching abnormal, showing it her own claws and letting her fangs sharpen inside her mouth. It screams again and flies away in a swirl of camouflaging feathers, its colors changing as it moves. Ashley picks up her stunner that had shorted out earlier, moving swiftly out of the enclosure before its inhabitant decides to try dive-bombing her again. On her way out, she happens to catch her reflection in the mirrored walls around her. The black of her eyes sends a shiver down her spine. She clenches her hands into fists to force her talons to retract.

By the time she’s in the elevator, she feels like she’s reverted successfully to her human form. But when she gets out at the lab level and shouts for Henry, the distortion of her voice startles her.

“The goddamn stunner crapped out—“ she coughs, trying to clear her throat as the vampiric timbre echoes around the room. “God, sorry,” she mutters, her voice returning to normal. “I had to startle Big Bird down there back into his enclosure so he wouldn’t take my eye out,” she explains.

“Startle is right,” Henry says fervently, coming around the corner. “Ooh, you’re bleeding— is that from the bird or did you bite your lip again?”

Ashley lifts her hand to her mouth, hissing in pain when she brushes her fingers over torn skin. “Ow. Me, I think. I can’t believe none of this hurts when I have all those teeth in there… so weird.”

Henry hands her a tissue, and she holds it against the cut. “Sorry about the stunner,” he says. “I think the power regulator is having trouble with the different intensity settings. I’ll take a look at it.”

Ashley has never noticed how many reflective surfaces there are in Henry's lab. She's trying to razz him a little bit about the glitching weaponry, but she keeps catching sight of herself, startled even at her human form. She hates looking in the mirror when she's got the vampire fangs and claws, but it's still uncomfortably weird to see that she looks so normal when the smell of blood is still filling her nose and the voice in her head is whispering for her to jump into action and fulfill the threats she'd made down in the enclosure.

"Hey. Ash."

Her head snaps up when Henry says her name. "Hm?"

"Why the claws?"

She hadn't even realized they were back, but she can't immediately get her body to withdraw them. "Uh, sorry. You know, I'm feeling kinda beat," she lies. "I'm gonna go lie down."

Sleep doesn't come easily, though, with the anxiety taking over her mind. Ashley finally stops trying when she realizes her lip has bled enough to soak into her pillow. The fangs are back, and she's tearing up her own skin.

She hates that she can't feel it. It only adds to the feeling that her body is no longer hers.

Thankfully, her mother is already down in the infirmary, studying some genetic mutation that's causing behavioral changes in one of their long-standing colonies. She looks up when Ashley comes in, her eyebrows arching. "Darling, what happened?"

"It's getting bad again," Ashley admits, her eyes downcast. "Your meds are still helping with the Vampire Brain, I think. It's... my brain that's the problem now."

"How do you mean?" Mom is snapping on gloves, gathering a stack of gauze and a random bottle as she approaches.

"I'm not doing this on purpose," Ashley says, gesturing to her face.

"I should hope not." Mom nudges her to the right until she's sitting in a swivel chair by one of the other desks.

"It's like, the more I freak out about feeling out of control, the less control I have," she says. "It's not this bad with the teleporting, though?" She hasn't actually thought about that until just now. "I think it's just... I still feel like this body isn't my own..." she extends her claws again. "And I think that's, y'know. Even worse after... what the cabal did."

Mom sighs. "Alright. Close your mouth, Ashley, I need to assess the external damage."

Ashley lets her mom clean her up, closing her eyes as the comforting smell of her perfume replaces the intoxicating aroma of blood. "Well, your physiology should heal the cut fast enough," Mom says. "It's just a matter of not making it worse right away."

"I don't notice when I'm doing it," Ashley whines. "It's, like, a nervous tic, I guess."

Her mother hums. "You know who you should talk to?"

"Do not say Will," Ashley snaps. "I love him, but I'm not letting him be my shrink."

Mom chuckles softly. "I was actually going to say Nikola."

Ashley hesitates, frowning a bit. She's been keeping her distance from the vampire ever since she'd barged into her mother's bedroom to find the two of them in bed, thankfully concealed by blankets. But he is literally the only other person who understands the voice in her head.

"Yeah," she says slowly, "maybe I should."

Mom fusses around her for a little while longer before she's satisfied. "Alright, well. Go change your clothes, you're covered in blood. And then go eat, please."

"Alright, Mom." Ashley shrugs her off, but she's smiling. "Thanks."

Her mother catches her one more time with a quick kiss to her cheek. "Ashley?"

"Hm?"

"I'm proud of you."

do we think helen saved ashley after she time travelled to deal with adam worth? she told will she had to let horrible things happen and watch all her mistakes (paraphrasing). surely she didn't mean ashley, did she? i like to imagine ashley and even james living at the underground sanctuary, taking care of it after helen resurfaces.
