joel's never been betrayed by his allies...i need that to happen to him now. he's exhibited so much character development and i've talked before about how the pain of watching all his relationships inevitably go up in flames hasn't warned him away from getting close to people again and again - but what about being hit with the sudden knowledge that it was, in fact, not worth it, because it was a lie all along? what about getting a knife driven into his back and realising mid-final breath that this, this is what makes people shy away from friendship, what makes them trust only as far as a stack of TNT goes? this is why relationships in the life series are not worth forming - not because everyone eventually dies, but because nothing is ever real in the first place. because death is honest, but love never is.
