Tengwar <3
It's the best thing Feanor made. Seriously. Nobody will murder you for using Tengwar. Nobody will hack your brain when you use Tengwar in the wrong moment. (The lamps are ok, but kinda meh, Tengwar is better)
Did you know, just did you know, that every consonant has a name, and the name is a noun, and some are really cool (and foreshadowing)? (chart and translations below the cut)
So, if you want a chart, here is a chart. And the names are (I don't have diacritics, so I just double the long vowels) (Quenya mode, with some historical notes from LotR appendix and elvish.org):
"Normal stuff Feanor had on his desk" row:
T tinco - metal
P parma - book
K calma - lamp (like those Feanor made? Or... like those Aule made)
Q quesse - feather (birds are important!)
"Things that keep you trapped" row:
ND ando - gate (like... the Door of Night?)
MB umbar - doom (doesn't need a comment...)
NG anga - iron (also, used in sword names, even for non-iron swords)
NGW (in TA changed to NW) ungwe - spider's web (foreshadowingsight on Feanor's part? :) )
"Mountain things???" row
S suule - spirit or breath (Manwe Sulimo... king of winds and stuff...) | TH thuule - spirit or breath, but I'm a Feanorian, or at least I'm a linguistics geek and love the phonetic scheme (me! but otoh it sounds dumb :( ), or I love the Teleri and/or Sindar, who use it as th (Finarfin, iirc).
F formen - north
H (h before t) harma (voiceless velar fricative phonetically /x/... I think. the sources are confusing. In TA mostly softened into a breath h.) - treasure (my precious Silmarills...) | aha (later renamed, idk when) - rage (my Silmarils! and, even more importantly, my father!)
HW (like "wh" in "why" especially the fancy British way of saying it where it's actyally h-w, not w-h) hwesta - breeze
"We need to name a row after places of articulation" row
NT anto - mouth (couldn't you think of a better name? I get it's a place-of-articulation row, but i don't like it anyway)
MP ampa - hook
NC anca - jaw
NQ unque - hole
"Things that Melkor likes" row:
N nuumen - west (Numenor...)
M malta - gold
NG (by TA: N) noldo - Noldo, as in type of Elf. Yes, it was initially Ngoldo. I mean, initially initially it was a gnome, so...
NW nwalme - tornment
"I have no idea but vaguely positive-metaphysical?..." row
R (pre-consonant or end-of-the-word R | non-vibrating r, whatever this means. My bet is that it's "r" as in Japanese --- position like "r", movement like "d") oore - heart (or: rising. Guess whose name includes this component. funny that it's the same word as heart, especially given that heart is also defined as conscience here)
V vala - power (duh.)
Y (? it has some history) [there was a consonant here]anna - gift (totally not made into a sus word by now...)
W/V (Initially W, by TA changed to V) wilya - air / lower sky (funny how those two names are next to one another. )
"Really, I think Feanor ran out of ideas for coherent name sets" row
R (vibrating, typpical "rrr") romen - east (the same sound being written with "East" and with a word alternatively translating to "heart" or part of Melkor's name --- I love it! Why? See my recent post. I love that. Call it a coincidence, but I love it)
RD arda - realm
L lambe - speech
LD alda - tree (!)
Now we are not in regular rows, so, the extra letters:
S silme - starlight (or... metaphysically important light in general? because guess what word is connected to this one. Also, funny how it's just after "tree"). It's always S, never TH.
(nuquerma is just "flipped" or something I guess)
Z aaze - day / sunlight (in Noldorin changed to Z - aare) | SS esse (Numenor and later, because they did not use the "z" sound, I think) - name
HY (Numenor and later: H) hywarmen - south
I yanta - bridge
U uure - heat
(doesn't have a sound, in Sindarin it's A) osse - terror (I guess he isn't a very nice Maia?)
H (voiceless h: /h/ not /x/; in TA replaced by harmen) halla - tall | gasdil - stop
(short wovel carrier) telco - stem
(long carrier) aara - dawn
The Tengwa names after directions are also used as marks in the compass (like we use NSWE) And snarky comments aside, I love the schema and how the names connect into many interesting and often Silm-events-related patterns. I love how each (almost) row is named after a set of similar things.
I'm not an expert, and if I made some mistakes, I'll be grateful for corrections.

A is for Arsenic defines and explains the basics of Victorian mourning traditions and objects, digging up the truth about tear bottles, post-mortem photography, and poisonous mourning veils, using anecdotes, macabre stories, and even jokes from the Victorian press. The book also debunks several Victorian mourning myths. Each entry includes an evocative pen and ink illustration by award-winning artist Landis Blair. There are 26 alphabetical entries―from Arsenic to Zinc, along with an informative glossary, appendix, and detailed bibliography. A – Arsenic; B – Bier; C – Crape; D – Death Token; E – Embalming; F – Fisk Burial Case; G – Gates Ajar; H – Hearse; I – Ice Box; J – Jet; K – Keen; L – Lychgate; M – Mute; N – Necropolis; O – Obelisk; P – Post Mortem; Q – Queen Victoria; R – Resurrection Men; S – Shroud; T – Tear Bottle; U – Undertaker; V – Veil; X – Sexton; W – Weepers; Y – Churchyard; Z – Zinc

🤔🍤 Do Gallifreyans have an appendix?
A small, enigmatic organ lurks in the lower right abdomen of many Earthlings. Do Gallifreyans have this mysterious piece of anatomy, too?
Anatomical Similarities: Gallifreyans are considered human ++++, and humanoid. They share a lot of physical traits with humans, making it very plausible that they have an appendix too.
The Scar Evidence: The 10th Doctor (and by proxy Tentoo and 14, as they're modelled on 10's body) has an appendectomy scar.
The Scar's Origin: Its origins remain unsurprisingly elusive, as the Doctor's never explicitly mentioned losing an appendix. We don't know when this appeared or why. It may just be a regeneration quirk, an echo from a previous body, or just a very coincidentally placed mark.
Biological Function: On Earth, the appendix is thought to play a role in gut health, acting as a storehouse for beneficial bacteria. If Gallifreyans have one, it may serve a similar purpose, but that's entirely speculative.
Appendectomy: Could it be that even the Gallifreyan appendix is susceptible to inflammation? Or maybe the Doctor had his appendix removed for some other, more intriguing reason – a donation to save a planet, a ruse to escape an enemy, or a misadventure involving a crazy surgical robot?
While we can't conclusively state that Gallifreyans have an appendix, the flimsy evidence suggests it's a distinct possibility.

Cutting Room Floor - Insidious Intent - II
Random Interview Sniplets
Here some random interview sniplets of the Q&A sessions between Sansa and Margaery I couldn't fit into the story, but couldn't get myself to delete either.
.
M: If you were given the chance to travel back to the past, where would you go? S: My wedding day. Drag myself away from the altar.
M: What is the dumbest way you've been hurt? S: I haven’t been very accident prone. I once singed my eyebrows in a grease fire. But that was it.
M: Have you ever thought of having plastic surgery? S: I used to get botox regularly.
M: Has your character been shaped by anyone? S: We all are. Our lives are the sum of our experiences, the people we meet along the way.
M: Which one do you prefer: being controlled or being in control? S: Being in control yourself is the decisively harder one. Being controlled is easier in many ways.
“Calling or texting?” “Texting. I like the chance to consider my words thoroughly.” That answer does not exactly come to a shock. Sansa is good at keeping her answers vague, but her expressions, as controlled as they are, there is something to it, that just Sansa’s words alone would never let her understand.
M: What matters more: money or love? S: That depends on your age I think. When you’re young I think love should matter more. When you’re old security matters.
M: Do you develop crushes easily? S: I’ve been married for eight years. M: So? That doesn’t protect you from finding someone attractive. S: I suppose. I guess then my answer is no. M: Where does cheating start for you? In finding someone attractive? S: It depends on the feelings involved. Holding hands can border on cheating if you’re really in love with someone. M: If your partner never finds out that you cheated on them, would you tell them about it? S: I wouldn’t let myself get in a situation like that in the first place. I’m not a cheater. If I was in the situation, no I wouldn’t tell. M: Would you forgive someone who cheated on you? S: Yes. People make mistakes. M: That sounds like you have higher standards for yourself than for others. S: Forgiveness is an important trait to nurse. M: Are you an easily forgiving person? S: For most things. Forgiveness is in important for those minor things we tend to keep grudges over. M: Is there something you could not forgive? S: Being cruel on purpose.
M: What roles do love and affection play in your life? S: It was once very important. But I’ve learned that you don’t die if you live without it. M: Did that ever make you feel lonely? S: No. You can find it outside of romantic love. M: Is there something that makes you feel lonely? S: Superficial conversations.
M: How many times has your heart been broken? S: Only once. M: How many hearts have you broken? S: One or two. I didn’t do too great damage though. I hope.
M: Are you a jealous person? S: No I can’t say I am. M: What makes you jealous? S: The idea of them experience things I wanted to do with someone, with them instead of me.
M: Do you think people can be born "good" or "evil"? S: I don’t think there is anything inherent good or evil. Good and evil are principles made up by mankind, and in that subjective.
M: What is something you wish you could forget? S: Nothing. Even the bad things, those that no one could prepare you for are valuable, because I made it to the other side. I’m still here.
M: What is the cause of cruel behaviour in the world? S: I think it’s pointless to look at the reasons. We’re powerless against the cruelty of fate. The cruelty of people is something we have to try to defy.
M: Without calling 911 when you are in danger, what would you do instead? S: That depends on the type of danger. If I have no way to bring myself to safety, then the best thing is to play along.
M: What is the highest degree of pain you've ever experienced on a scale of 1-10? S: I had a burst appendix when I was sixteen. That was close to an eight.
M: What words of advice would you offer to your younger self? S: Not to get married.
M: Would you rather have intelligence over looks? S: Are you implying that I lack one? Life knowing less would be easier sometimes. You don’t get taken seriously as a woman, if you’re dumb at least you don’t suffer from that.
M: What do you think is the best hangover cure? S: I don’t have enough experience with alcohol to answer that. The few times I had a couple drinks too much I can counter with a big bottle of water and some Ibuprofen.
M: If a crystal ball could tell you the truth about yourself, your life, the future, or anything else, what would you want to know? S: That would have served me well ten years ago. Now I have a large portion of my life fairly well planned out.
M: Would you open an envelope that has the date of your death inside? S: Yes I would.
M: Would you be friends with yourself? S: I think so.
M: Do you ever get the feeling that the current day has been repeated 100 times? S: All the time. In here and in the time before. And endless event of things repeating. I do well with structure, but I found I enjoy your visits here, because they offer something else.
M: If you were to die this evening with no opportunity to communicate with anyone, what would you most regret not having told someone? Why haven’t you told that person yet? S: My closet is pretty clean in that regard. Other than telling my family I love them. I think you can never tell that someone often enough.
M: What is the most stupid thing you’ve done in your entire life? S: Getting married at twenty one. Getting married in general. Schopenhauer writes that getting married is like reaching blindly into a bag of snakes and hoping to find an eel.
M: Would you rather visit your ancestors in the past or meet your descendants in the future? S: There won’t be direct descendants to visit.

Capturing the ambience of Earthworm Jim 3D (1999)
Jim's foray into a three-dimensional collectathon retains the same wacky humor as its run-and-gun predecessors. By enabling some hidden debug options, we can achieve newfound camera control to capture its settings.
Running the game
Earthworm Jim 3D is available on most digital platforms. However, they are plagued by a bug where gameplay is randomly interrupted by a "Jump if you really want to play" message. This is apparently related to some kind of disc check, so loading a game CD (or ISO via a tool like Daemon Tools) will stop it from appearing.
Capturing footage
Field of vision
Playing at 1920x1080 will result in a horizontally stretched 4:3 picture. To enable a correct aspect ratio for widescreen, use AuToMaNiAk005's fix or ZeptoBST's trainer.
Debug menu
You can turn on EWJ 3D's debug menu by setting the memory address at 0x4FBD38 (Size: 4 bytes) to 1 and then loading a game area. The simplest way to do this is setting the variable while on the game's launcher, and then starting the game. You can also force a map reload at any time by setting 0x547198 (Size: 4 bytes) to 1.
To do all of this, you will need a memory scanner like Cheat Engine.
Real vs Debug camera
It's simplest to capture footage in first-person mode. This will remove HUD elements, provided your current weapon is the standard blaster.
To force yourself to use the blaster on any level, activate both the Ammo/Guns cheats and press Lock Camera repeatedly until you've switched to it.
To capture footage from mid-air, the debug menu offers alternate camera controls, found under Debug Tools -> Realcam. In this mode, we can push the camera forward and backward with the arrow keys, and orbit the camera both directions (by pressing 'Q/A' or 'Z/X'). There is lots of overlap with EWJ 3D's default game controls here, so you may want to rebind as necessary.
Positioning the camera
The game doesn't render Jim's model while he is in first-person. Therefore, if we activate the Debug camera while in first-person, we can record Jim-free footage*:
Enable Realcam
Enter first-person. Adjust the camera pitch and direction as desired
Disable Realcam. Now, you can push the camera forward and backward using the respective arrow keys. Jim will stay hidden while you do this - but note that he'll be revealed again if you rotate (default 'Z/X') or zoom (default 'Q') the camera.
Example: move the far corner of a stage, with your back facing the area you want to capture. Enter first-person and look down at 45 degrees. Disable realcam pull the camera backward.
Extracting sounds
For sound effects, run DragonUnpacker's Hyper Ripper on the game's map files. Note that some ambient sound effects are played back at various speeds in-game, for example the distant voice shouting "Jim!" in the main brain hub plays at a few different possible speeds.
For music tracks, try ripping the game's CD using a music program such as iTunes.
Appendix 1: Hiding Jim's shadow
Unlike Jim's model, his shadow is always rendered. There are ways to mod this texture so that it's not visible. See main article.
We can use Special K to hide Jim, but not his shadow, via its Shader Toggler:

NASA Announces Selections for Lunar Comms, Network Studies - NASA
NASA has selected Intuitive Machines of Houston and Aalyria Technologies Inc. of Livermore, California, to perform capability studies with the goal of advancing space communications and exploration technologies. These studies will allow NASA to gain insights into industry capabilities and innovations to facilitate NASA partnerships with commercial communications and navigation providers.
The awards, under the Next Space Technologies for Exploration Partnerships-2 (Next STEP-2) Broad Agency Announcement (BAA) Appendix Q, are firm fixed-price milestone-based contracts.
Intuitive Machines is awarded $647,600 — Study Area No. 1, Lunar User Terminals and Network Orchestration — to conduct state-of-the-art studies and demonstrations for a dual-purpose navigation and communication lunar surface user terminal. The terminal will support lunar surface exploration planning and ensure interoperability with future LunaNet compatible service providers working in partnership with NASA, ESA (European Space Agency), and other space agencies.
Aalyria Technologies is awarded $393,004 — Study Area No. 2, Network Orchestration and Management System (NOMS) — to provide NASA with insights on advanced Network Orchestration and Management Systems that effectively address NASA’s need to integrate into multiple commercial and government communication service providers supporting the Near Space Network.
NASA’s Near Space Network is managed by the agency’s Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, Maryland, under the direction of the agency’s SCaN (Space Communications and Navigation) program office within the Space Operations Mission Directorate at NASA Headquarters in Washington. The Near Space Network provides NASA missions with robust communications services through an interoperable architecture composed of a mixture of existing NASA and commercial services.
“These awards are part of NASA’s continuing effort to build commercial partnerships to help support increasingly sophisticated and high-demand space missions,” said Greg Heckler, new capability lead for the SCaN Program at NASA Headquarters in Washington. “Seamless interoperability across networks, from here on Earth to cislunar space, is an essential element of SCaN’s emerging ‘one network’ approach. These awards will move us one step closer to realizing that future.”
The innovative studies delivered by industry through the Next Space Technologies for Exploration (NextSTEP) – 2 Omnibus Broad Agency Announcement vehicle bolster the agency’s goal to create a reliable, robust, and cost-effective set of commercial services in which NASA is one of many customers.
