since im in a ranting mood this mornight and this one has been building up again recently so ofc i gotta let it out:
pls free all the encanto characters from the really severe projection that erases everything about them, from their personality to their character development to their genuine traits and more, and makes them into something they're either not or worse than they actually are
this is especially about mirabel, isabela, alma, mirabel, and the rest of the madrigals in some ways
yes, i said mirabel twice (and i would say isabela and alma twice too but mirabel is the one usually affected by projection the most)
anyway, free themmmmm rahhhhhh
(to clarify: projection is not bad, but when it gets too much and throws everything we know about them out the window, thats a big hell no)

OMG I DIDN’T KNOW THERE WAS AN ENCANTO ACCOUNT WITH CRYPTID THOUGHTS HWHDJWJJWHDA Sorry just got a little excited after seeing all the content you have. Mirabel and Dolores being just 👁️👁️ I really love it and Antonio just being a little gremlin kid yeah yeah that’s him. I love what you do with the adults too and I’m just seeing everything like 👀👀👀. I honestly didn’t think I’d find someone when I searched for ‘Encanto cryptid’ but I’m happy I came across your posts. more so because I have my own cryptid Au and I love how Dolores is infinitely 👁️👁️ in both minds but for different reasons. anyways just doing this to tell you that I love your ideas and designs so much ✨✨✨
YEAHHHHH RAHGGGG❗❗❗
That one was made by another creator and I just helped, can't take all the credit <333 BUT YES!! Indeed, we love all kinds of aus here, including creepy ones <33
Creepy staring Dolores seems to be a recurring thing...NOT THAT THAT'S BAD 🗣🗣🗣 Honestly I always think of that one drafted storyboard where it was her, Mirabel and Bruno and it was like that one Jurassic Park scene LMAOOOO
And then there's the super radical au (by queenofthedisneyverse), the more recent one, where all of them have creepy stares. GLAD YOU LOVE THE DESIGNS WEEEEEEEE
Love that <33

So I just had an interesting revelation after an exchange of comments with a writer on ao3. Cause I think I finally figured out ✨Dolores✨
I realized that she and Mirabel are pretty similar people. And while some aspects of their lives and circumstances parallel one another, they don’t have quite enough in common to be all that close.
Mainly, their family is the glue that binds them together. So, they love each other, but they don’t know each other very well, or spend a whole lot of time together.
As they pointed out, Dolores doesn’t fully respect Mirabel. Not enough to take her seriously. In fact, it’s quite likely that Dolores pities her.
Yeah her cousin is gift-less and different from everyone else, but at least she has hobbies and free time. At least she doesn’t have to deal with any of the stress and drawbacks that comes with having a magical gift. And Dolores, of all people, would know.
Between the disasters she prevents; the secrets she keeps; the damage control she has to do; her mother’s weather; her struggles with her own gift; her crush on Mariano; and caring for her younger brothers, as she is the eldest sibling; on top of all her anxieties, Dolores has far too much on her mind to worry about Mirabel. She just isn’t a priority nor her responsibility. Pretty similar to Alma in that regard.
It’s not a pretty side of Dolores, but it makes her human. It makes her relatable. She is not perfect, no one is, and we shouldn’t expect her to be.
On the other hand, I think Mirabel sympathizes with Dolores but that won’t stop her from trying to butter her prima up and asking her for favors. She doesn’t really know Dolores and I don’t think she trusts Dolores either, at least not yet, (which is honestly, valid). She also might not see her as a role model, not the way she does for every other woman in their family.
This is made evident in “Waiting on a Miracle,” and “The Family Madrigal” where she expounds upon and sings everyone’s praises but Dolores’s. I don’t think Mirabel knows what Dolores does other than ‘she can hear everything we’re saying.’ We, as the audience have to guess, to infer what Dolores’s role in the community is. Dolores just isn’t someone on Mirabel’s radar.
Again, this is a character flaw for Mirabel; a blind spot that makes her all the more relatable to us. She’s not immune to taking people for granted or overlooking their hard work.
However, even though they’re not close to each other they don’t go out of their way to hurt one another the way Isa and Mirabel do.
Both of them care very deeply about their family and would do anything in their power to make them proud, protect them & make them happy. This is why Mirabel helps Antonio to his door. This is why Dolores goes out of her way to speak up, unprompted, for the first time, to share her honest thoughts and opinions about Bruno.
Someone that she empathizes with. Someone she loves so much, she kept the fact that he was hiding in the walls a secret for ten years! If you consider all of this together, it’s no wonder she blabbed at dinner.
Despite how wrong it was she was operating from a place of stress and anxiety, not malice (like some would assume).
I think during reconstruction for Casita, and without the magic hanging over them, Dolores and Mirabel finally find that report they’ve been missing out on.
The whole family is relearning how to respect one another and truly understand their needs and personal boundaries. To be more proactive in showing how much they love and appreciate one another, instead of leaving things unsaid. They spend more time together actually bonding and listening to one another.
Building a relationship they didn’t know was missing for the past ten years. Just like Mirabel and her sisters. Or Alma and her children and grandchildren. How beautiful is that?
#I actually think Lu and Isa have a similar problem#they didn’t know one another well or respect each other as they should have#but during the reconstruction they take the time to get to know each other#encanto#dolores madrigal#mirabel madrigal#canon compliant#encanto headcanons#character analysis#i was working on this all night#hm!

My Grandkid HC’s
ISABELA
Lesbian. I’m sorry I just can’t see her being into guys it just doesn’t work in my brain.
Also trans of the gender (mtf)
Since she’s dropped her perfect persona, Isabela has been pulling pranks, ESPECIALLY on known little shit head Camilo. He doesn’t know whether to be proud or extremely annoyed.
Can’t cook or bake she’ll set the kitchen aflame
Always walks barefoot on the grass
Has names for most of her plants, especially the cacti
Doesn’t really involve herself in farmers work unless there is an emergency.
Developed a skill for gardening without her gift, and continues to do so even once she’s gotten it back. There’s something special about watching plants grow over time.
She still makes bouquets for events, but they’ve lost their conservative look for something more ‘Isabela’
Unlike most of her family she doesn’t mind bugs (unless they are in her room)
Very high pain tolerance. Likely due to smiling all day and cacti thorns.
She still likes pastel colors but they aren’t high on her list of favorite colors, so she opts for darker colors when choosing cloths.
She used to bite people as a kid
Has conflicting feelings on animals because on one hand yeah they are cute on the other she has to shoo them away from eating her plants every other week
Has a large man eating plant named ‘Rosita’
Sometimes she’ll take whatever is in Mirabel’s hand, put it on a high shelf she cannot reach, and walk away.
Can actually be scarier then Luisa believe it or not
SNORES SO LOUDLY the only person who can handle it is her gf
Not big on physical affection and often uses gift giving as her way of showing love (platonically and romantically)
DOLORES
Incredible musician who could basically play any instrument you hand her
She sings lullabies to the younger family members
Personally I imagine her as the only straight grandkid but obvi she is supportive of lgbtq+ since half her family is apart of it
She wouldn’t come out of her room when she first got her gift, but her parents and a very supportive Isabela eventually coaxed her out
She has headphones painted red and gold by Mirabel
autism (vine boom sound effect)
As much as she loves Isabela and appreciates all of Luisa’s hardwork; out of her cousins her and Mira get along the best.
Speaking of that Isabela and Dolores’s relationship, much like Camilo and Mirabel’s, soured as the pressure to uphold the family name increased. Before the magic disappeared they basically ignored each other, but began to reconcile during the rebuild and became close again.
Her room is sound proof (I know people say otherwise idc she needs a BREAK) but during the night she’ll sometimes open her window since it’s much quieter
I do believe she has SOME control over her gift, and in order to hear very far she has to hold a hand against her ear. When she isn’t, things are amplified but not unbearable. She’s kinda just gotten used to it.
Dolores love language is, unsurprisingly, words of affirmation.
If she gets stressed and doesn’t have access to her headphones, she’ll listen for the nearest family members voice (Ex: her fathers laugh, her mothers ranting, Camilo’s jokes, Antonio communicating with his animals)
Gets in on Isabela’s pranks now and again. She is mostly polite but has a devious side, especially with her cousins and siblings.
LUISA
I still adhere to the concept Luisa has some sort of ‘calm’ room. Wether it be an amusement park or a sauna she deserves to have somewhere to destress
Has a pile of stuffed animals, each with different names
She actually does enjoy doing chores and being active, but struggles to find a stopping point and not overwork herself
She’s more then just brawn, and was always a sharp academic when she was in school
Women enjoyer women enjoyer
VERY physically affectionate she’s giving everyone hugs and crushing their bones
Her and Camilo get along very well after Casita’s rebuild. She likes his energy and ability to let loose, and Camilo respects all the work she does around the Encanto. They mesh well.
When she first got her gift she accidentally broke her dads hand
Her father used to teach her piano, though she sorta fell out of it the older she got. Since casita’s rebuild she’s picked it back up as a hobby.
A big animal person, second to Antonio. She likes patting the donkeys on the head if she gets the chance
Has a hard time sitting down to eat because she’s always getting ready to move
If you give her anything she’ll begin sobbing and thanking you (birthdays and Christmas are rough)
She puts the younger kids if air jail if she has to
She originally struggled to control her gift, and that made her scared to touch anyone in fear she’d hurt them. But Pepa helped Luisa find ways to control the strength as she had to learn with her weather
After she lost her gift she kept trying to move the church as a force of habit
Reads a lot of fantasy novels
Helps Antonio wrangle his animals
CAMILO
(This will be more brief as I have a whole post of HC’s for this mf)
Gay and trans can’t change my mind
Despite always being hungry he cannot stomach fish. Some other seafoods are fine but the smell of fish makes him ill.
Won’t say this out loud: he is kinda legitimately afraid of Isabela ever since he’s become the target of her pranks. No one knows true fear until you realize you are caught in a Isabela prank.
Camilo’s love language is a lot of things, but quality time is high up on his list as he likes living in the moment.
Is a very good artist but gets embarrassed when people try to look at his work
Despite being a stick he is surprisingly strong.
Him and Mirabel used to be close but sort lost that connection the older they got, and even began to fight and butt heads. I like to think they do eventually become close, but it takes a lot of conversation and time.
adhd and autism (vine boom sound effect)
used to bite people as a kid
He likes reading plays and will space out for hours thinking how something translates on a stage
Sometimes he stands in front of a mirror and goes ‘why why why why why why why w
MIRABEL
The silly!!!
Like Isabela: gift giving is her way of showing affection. She loves hand crafting gifts.
This is depressing but when she didn’t get her gift she drew a door on her wall hoping the magic would make it real
Once no one would wake up so she poured water on Camilo’s head and he screamed so loud it woke everyone else up
Mirabel looks extremely innocent but will literally try to stab anyone who bothers her with her sewing needle
She used to write simple picture books for Antonio when they roomed together
She DEF got her own room during the rebuild. Like imagine saving the miracle and your family is just like “anyway go back to the baby room lol” they wouldn’t do that to her
Bisexual icon love to see it
Has zero rizz I’m sorry queen but like she’s a girl failure by heart
Is a bit of old woman and can’t stay up too late without getting tired but in turn wakes up extremely early.
Not the best academic but obviously still very smart.
She’s an empath so if you begin crying she’ll start crying too she can’t help it
Is blinder than a bat if you take her glasses away she cannot see SHIT
ANTONIO
Don’t have too much on him since he is still a baby but I have a few!
His favorite animal is the jaguar! Hence the plushie and his closeness to Parce
He likes matching animals to people, and even has a few animals named after his family.
Animals often tend to just kinda… follow him. If he goes for a walk he might came back with some new friends.
I do think he’s a vegetarian. Maybe not a vegan but eating meat is not easy for him.
He doesn’t always go to his parents if he has nightmares, and will rotate between Dolores, Mirabel, and Camilo.
Kicks in his sleep

Encanto idea:
The whole Encanto realizes they never celebrated Mirabel's Quinceanera, and they only have one month left until it's too late (when she turns 16)
so they plan the party while Antonio distracts the guest of honor until it's time (isabella, Alma, and the villagers may or may not have lingering guilt for their treatment toward Mirabel)
It was a simple fact, even though it was horrifying.
Mirabel had not been given a quinceanera.
Isabela, at the time, hadn't questioned it. She was distracted by Mariano's hints that he would propose sometime this year and Abuela's cheer at the fact. Mirabel's birthday itself had almost slipped her mind. She had summoned a bouquet of flowers- multicolored, like Mirabel's creations- before distracting herself with practicing her reaction to said proposal.
Of course, said proposal had been a disaster, Casita had fallen down, and Isabela had discovered herself and rebuilt her relationship with Mirabel.
Which left a fact niggling at her brain.
Mirabel had not been given a quinceanera.
Abuela felt just as awful as she did about it. In fact, it was her idea to create a make-up quinceanera a month before her sixteenth birthday. It would be a little weird, but hey. All birthdays were weird.
And now Isabela was rummaging through Mirabel's closet, hoping to find a dress that she could take to the seamstress. A month was too little time to make an entirely new dress. The same day was too little time!
But they would make it work. They had made everything else work.
Isabela pushed past a few dresses. No, no, no. This one was already covered in embroidery, this one was too flat, this one had too little ruffles... "Come on, she's gotta have a good dress," Isabela hissed. "Somewhere, come on..."
She came to a stop.
The dress she stared at was flat without the petticoats and Mirabel to fill it up, but the design of embroidery candles, changing the soft peacock blue to a mixture of blue and gold, was show-stopping. No doubt. It was a quinceanera dress.
But why was it here?
"Isa?"
Isabela made a noise that she chose to identify as a yelp, whirling around and slamming the wardrobe shut. Mirabel stared at her with a brow raised, holding a stack of clothes. "Mirabel! Hi! What are you doing here?" Nobody could deny they were sisters with that last part.
"Uh...it's my room?" Mirabel cocked her head. "What are you doing?" Her brows furrowed together. "If you're looking for your black summer dress, I think Camilo took it."
"No, I'm not- Wait, what did you say about my dress-" Wait, no, she could deal with that later. "I was looking for something...else, when I found this." Isabela held out the quinceanera dress. "What is this?"
Mirabel glanced at it as she set the clothes down, the furrow in her brow easing to be replaced by it raising. "My quinceanera dress?"
"No, I mean, why do you have one?" Isabela maybe shook it a little bit. "We never threw you a quinceanera."
Mirabel's brow raised even higher. "Yes, we had one?" She sounded like she was ready to call for their mother. "I mean, you probably don't remember it, you were dancing with Mariano all night." What. "It wasn't a big community event like your quinceanera, but I wanted it to be small."
"...we threw you a small quinceanera?"
"Yeah?" Mirabel stepped forward, raising a hand to Isabela's forehead. "I asked Abuela if it could just be the family and some of my friends. She agreed but insisted we invite the Guzmans." Her brow dropped back into a furrow when she failed to find a fever. "I've always hated big public birthday events, but I like the Guzmans so I agreed. Isabela, are you okay?"
Isabela batted her hand away, panic seizing her heart. If that was true, than she and Abuela had possibly done something really stupid. Mirabel, according to the girl herself, hated big public birthday events and that was exactly what was being set up in the town square. "I'm fine! I just...don't remember your quinceanera, that's all."
Mirabel stared at her even harder. "The pictures are on the quinceanera wall," she said, slowly. "I mean, we don't all look at that wall every day, but it's there. Isabela, I think I should call Mami-"
"I'M FINE!" Isabela shoved past, setting the dress on Mirabel's bed as she passed. "I just remembered that I need to do something." She paused, glancing back at her sister. "I...uh...bye- ABUELA!"
Mirabel cried out behind her, but Isabela was already running.
Hopefully, to stop what was going to be the most awkward event ever.
#Encanto#my writing#Isabela Madrigal#Mirabel Madrial#hc that after her gift ceremony Mirabel hates big birthday parties where all eyes will be on her. Antonio's ceremony really pushed on that#fic#fanfic#fanfiction#prompt fill#prompt fic

Antonio's Birthday HC #2:
One of Antonio's most beloved presents: the tiger pillow.
This little guy was once again made by Mirabel, who had then been gifted to her little cousin on the night before he turned 4.
A kind townsperson Antonio befriended gifted him a few twine-bound pages of a late family member's studies on tigers (conducted long before the Encanto), knowing how much Antonio loved and cared for animals. The booklet's promise of another big animal (like jaguars) quickly sparked Antonio's fixation on the unfamiliar striped cat.
Because of his sheer love for the animal, Mirabel made quick work on a tiger-themed present for her cousin's birthday, ready to present it to him on the day he turned four.
Unfortunately, on the night before then, Mirabel found little Antonio in the middle of the night, crying and shaking, having been deeply shook by a terrifying nightmare... one about a tiger.
Since he was unable to easily go back to sleep, Mirabel gave Antonio the special pillow early, promising him this tiger was friendly and would chase away his nightmares. Antonio snuggled with Mirabel that night in the same bed, hugging his new gift close to his chest.
When he fell back asleep, he knew that Mirabel had kept her word - and that his real tiger friend would always keep him safe from nightmares.
(yeah this one got a bit sad ;-; don't worry the next next one will be a little happier)
#(this little guy's a staple in all of my two fics involving Mira & Antonio <3)#(I've changed his backstory too many times already - and REALLY need to adjust the one I made for him in my last fic... as well as his desi#(... but I really love this backstory for the little tiger warrior)#As for the man who gifted Antonio the book?#I'll work a little more on fleshing him out - as he's just a placeholder for now - but I'm also really liking the inklings of their past#Encanto#disney encanto#encanto disney#antonio madrigal#disneys encanto#encanto antonio#encanto headcanons#encanto hcs#mirabel madrigal#Encanto townfolk#encanto 2021

...He raised his eyebrows in surprise at that. Favorite people? Was he included on that list? Julieta just smiled and turned back to the dishes. It took Bruno a moment, but he also slowly resumed his duties, finding he couldn't put away the little smile on his own face that had arrived at the thought that he might be someone's favorite.
I drew from my fic La Traes again for @encantober-official Day 2 - siblings. This scene is a little exchange that happens between the triplets--the OG siblings. You can find the whole thing below the cut.
“You need to get out of the house, hermanito,” Julieta had said to him gently one evening after dinner as they washed dishes together. “It’s…been a while, sí?”
“Eso se queda corto,” Pepa had mumbled as she dumped some more dishes into the soapy water, earning a glare from both of her siblings. [ That's an understatement.] She widened her eyes at them as if to say What? Am I wrong?
“I’m just saying ,” Julieta continued, pointedly moving past Pepa’s comment, “that it might do you some good, to have a little more change of scenery.”
“I-I think I’m doing just fine,” he replied a bit defensively. And he did. He went for walks with Dolores around the perimeter of Casita, down to the river where it ran past the southwest edge of the grassy lawn. Sometimes he’d wander out back behind the house, napping in the afternoon sun before it disappeared behind the mountainous wall that guarded the back of their home. Compared to the previous ten years, he was a veritable expeditionist now.
“Of course you are,” Pepa said, putting an arm around his shoulders. He hunched them in response, glancing at her suspiciously.
“Y-yeah?”
“Yeah! You’ve made it to the edge of the grass! That’s like, what, un kilómetro cuadrado, yeah? A completely normal amount of space for a person to exist in.”
[One square kilometer.] Bruno’s frown deepened. “You’re mocking me.”
Pepa winked at him.
“A-alright, alright,” he said, waving his hands in the air beside his head in surrender. “I’ll, uh, I'll go to the banana fields tomorrow. As long as it’s not a harvest day,” he added, pointing a finger at Julieta, who rolled her eyes good-naturedly at him. “Or an irrigation day. Or you know…a-a day with other, um, other people there.”
The busyness of rebuilding Casita last year had given him enough social interaction outside his immediate family to last him quite a while…a very long while. Thankfully, he’d been able to largely lose himself in the organized chaos of it all, and Mirabel had been particularly helpful, working as a liaison between him and anyone he’d had to interact with, smoothing the awkwardness away with her easy conversation and joyful presence. And he had managed to largely ignore the curious stares that came from, well, from pretty much everyone until the novelty of his return had worn off. Well…at least he had pretended to ignore them.
“I don’t want to pressure you, arenoso,” Julieta said gently, putting a slightly soapy hand on his shoulder. “I just don’t want…”
…don’t want you to get lost again. She’d let her sentence trail off, but the unspoken ending hung awkwardly in the air anyway. They’d both turned back to their dishes, with Pepa standing stiffly beside them, hugging a freshly dried plate to her stomach. The cloud above her head darkened just a little. Bruno winced down at the soapy water as the silence surrounding them grew painful.
“H-hey, maybe you can spend the day with Antonio tomorrow?" Pepa offered nervously, popping the tension like a soap bubble. "He needs a…a break …from routine, too."
Bruno and Julieta looked at their sister with matching frowns, both narrowing their eyebrows in concern. It would have been comical or even sweet to see the same expression mirrored between her two siblings again…if she didn’t feel the weight of the very same concern pulling down the corners of her own mouth.
Antonio had been struggling to find a place for himself in the Madrigal visits to town. Before his gift, he might have shyly clung to Mirabel’s skirts or played in the dirt while Pepa rained on the fields, never quite brave enough to venture out to play with the other children on his own, refusing to speak to the adults that smiled down at him. Pepa worried about his shyness.
But now a different problem had presented itself. Antonio was now more than happy to engage with anyone and everyone, possessing a newfound courage with his animal friends by his side, but his animal friends were also decidedly wild, and even Antonio could not control every move they made. Just last week, some monkeys that had trailed him into the town had wandered away and found some storage crates of fruit, working together to drop them from the roof of a nearby house until the crates smashed open and spilled out a feast that was then fit only for them. The owner of the crates had not been happy.
Most of the jungle animals had largely maintained a healthy, fearful distance from the bustling, busy streets of the Encanto for the fifty years it had occupied the valley, but Antonio’s warmth and friendship seemed to have blurred that boundary, and Abuela was struggling to find a balance between loving encouragement and civic order. And when Abuela struggled with something, all the Madrigals struggled with her, in one way or another.
“...Mamá suggested that maybe Antonio might spend some time in the forest paths, playing with his gift,” Pepa explained, putting away the plate so she could pull at her braid. A knowing glance between all three siblings conveyed the underlying meaning of the word play—learn to get it under control. “Félix was going to take him, but you two get along so well, Bruno. Maybe you could spend some time with him, and you both could enjoy the fresh air. You know. Bonding?”
Bruno blew out an exaggerated breath, his cheeks puffing and his shoulders dropping dramatically. He pulled his mouth to the side and looked at Pepa with an expression of reluctant concession. How could he say no to a whole day with his sobrino? He loved the kid. And the very fact that Abuela had been the one to suggest the break from town…well. He knew what that felt like. No matter how nicely she put it, how lovingly she intended it, he knew it would feel like a punishment to Antonio. That thought…well that thought broke his heart a little.
“...F-fine,” he mustered in response. “We’ll go for a walk in the–- ” he swallowed dryly“ –- i-in the forest.”
A bit of sunlight broke through from behind the cloud above Pepa’s head, and Bruno couldn’t help but flash a small, crooked smile up at it. She pulled him sideways by his collar and planted a kiss on his cheek, which he winced at but accepted gratefully. Julieta nudged him with her hip.
“There you go! That will be fun,” she said happily, clearly convinced this was a fantastic solution for all parties. Bruno was not so sure. “Take Mirabel with you, too, if you want. You know she’d love to join her two favorite people for the day.”
Bruno had raised his eyebrows in surprise at that. Favorite people? Was he included in that list? Julieta had just smiled and turned back to the dishes. It had taken Bruno a moment, but he also slowly resumed his duties, finding he couldn’t put away the little smile on his own face that had arrived at the thought that he might be someone’s favorite.
So here he was now, sharing a picnic blanket with a sloth and a capybara—among other crawling, flittering things—nursing a bruised ego after having been tackled by a six year old on a jaguar, all because he was a pushover who couldn’t say no to time with his sobrinos.
Caray. The things I get myself into…

Pov You're Camilo Madrigal 🦎
Ok so, for him, I had to be more deep and invest because he doesn't appear a lot in the movie.
This might be an unpopular opinion, but I feel like, Camilo is not the full gremlin we pictured, I feel like he's more introverted than it shows like his siblings, but he's still the most extroverted of them. Mirabel and him are kinda alike, mostly for their gremlin energy, but also through art, she's a sewer and a musician and he is clearly a theater kid, that's indisputable lol, but also likes to doodle and to keep diaries. A LOT of diaries in which he talks about everything, especially since he and Mirabel started to grow apart from each other. He notes things about people he cares about, plays about books he liked or where he would want to go if he could, what he would want to show to his brother and yadah yadah. Also, I bet he would take a bunch of pictures he would put on his walls, a bucn of pictures in which he would never appears. Yeah, I feel like around people, especially his family, he does everything so people don't worry about him, because that's his role, actually: being The distraction, which doesn't give him a word to say to anyone. That's why he's so soft alone or around his mom when she's too stressed, and after the movie, with Mirabel. I would include Antonio but I think, with Antonio, he's doing his best to be a bright and protective big brother so Antonio doesn't have to be forced into anything. ❤🩹
Sooooo yeah, this might be unpopular opinion but I've been thinking about it for a while, especially since I heard about the original idea of Camilo faking his appearance to the point Pepa and Felix, his own parents, didn't recognize him when Casita fall down. He's just a kid hiding himself behind his gift to please the others and trying to convince himself that IT IS who he is. I have a scene in my ff that exploited this idea. Anyways, I didn't read a lot of headcannon before doing mine (mostly because most of the hc I found about him were x reader, and it wasn't what I needed haha...) so it's a bit longer than Mirabel, but I NEEDED to say more about him- about all of them actually ! Or I will exploded 🤯 So yeah, I think I'll make a moodboard, especially Pepa's side of the family since they're not exploited that much in the movie, and my buns are butter deprived for three years now 💀
here's the link to the moodboard and the sketches of him
Fun fact, because of the weird blocked face in sketch's phase, I laughed so much and so hard for so long that I couldn't finish this face for a long time or even open my sketchbook xD no but it's because IT WAS SO FUNNY LOOK AT HIM 🤣

the new encanto comics reminded me of something that has absolutely been pointed out before, but it’s still so neat how the youngest of all sibling lines seem to look like their respective parent the most?
i mean, obviously because family and everyone has resemblances to each other in some way
but yeah, looking at them, mirabel resembles julieta, antonio resembles felix, and bruno resembles pedro
not sure if i’m making sense or if i’m just looking too much into it, but still, it’s interesting
pedro and bruno:
julieta and mirabel:
felix and antonio:
love them
#encanto#madrigal family#mirabel madrigal#julieta madrigal#antonio madrigal#felix madrigal#bruno madrigal#pedro madrigal#it’s interesting#and fun#i love them#<333#encanto thoughts are still happening yes#but okay time to go back to pain aka reqs aaaaaaaaaa

The Jorge Situation
Welcoming Antonio
Preview: Bruno hovered awkwardly for a second, briefly lost for what to do. He had played support with each one of his sisters’ pregnancies, but childbirth could be unpredictable. He mentally reviewed his memories, forming a rough to-do list out of experience.
Read on AO3
Bruno hummed a little tune to himself as he mixed the spackle, he was pretty good at it by now, but wasn’t sure if it was right to be proud of himself. On the one hand, the only reason he had learned how to mix spackle in the first place was because his magic house was going through some sort of crisis. On the other, he had learned a new skill, one he thought he’d never get the hang of. Look at him, Bruno Madrigal, mixing spackle and patching up cracks like a person who knew how to do things. It was hard to not be at least a little proud.
His wife was proud of him, but these days saying Leandra was proud of him was sort of like a young kid saying their mom thought they were special. It was great having a loving wife, really great, great enough that Bruno paused to knock on the wood around him because he would really like to continue having a loving wife. So it was great, but she wasn’t the most objective of people when it came to his accomplishments. Julieta seemed impressed too, but lately Juli wasn’t that objective either. Any time Bruno interacted with Mirabel in front of either Julia or Agustín they’d get this look in their eyes. Julieta was better at hiding it than Agustín, who had pulled him aside on more than one occasion to double check that Mirabel wasn’t in any physical danger. Then he would hug Bruno and thank him for protecting her.
So, yeah. Neither of those two were good people to ask if it was alright for Bruno to be proud of his new skill.
Pepa would be perfect, if she knew about the cracks, especially if Félix was with her. He would give a low whistle and tell him it looked good, then Pepa would tell him how vocal he could be about his spackling skills without people getting all uppity. Sadly, if Pepa knew about the cracks, she would constantly be storming, so they had to keep her in the dark.
Bruno continued humming as he got out his spade and picked up a glob of spackle. Carefully, he filled in a crack, then smoothed the spackle against the wall. It was almost meditative, now that he’d gotten the hang of it. He spent a good half hour like that, feeling content, thoughts falling in and out of him while he watched the cracks disappear under his practiced hands.
Then, a new crack appeared before his eyes.
Followed by another.
And another.
Casita shivered, all of the cracks healed, then a few more were created. Slowly, Bruno stood from his stool and backed as far away from the wall as he could, watching cracks appear and disappear in rapid succession.
“Um, Casita?”
Casita shivered again, but otherwise didn’t respond. A bit of plaster landed on Bruno’s shoulder and it suddenly occurred to him he maybe didn’t want to be in the walls while whatever was happening happened. Moving as quick as he could in the dark, narrow corridor, he rushed for the hole that would take him out of the walls. After a couple turns a crack opened in the floorboards right in front of him, and he tripped on it, cutting the top of his foot. He swore through his teeth, but didn’t pause to examine the damage.
Usually, Bruno was very careful to check the coast was clear before exiting the walls, but with the whole house going crazy around him, he elected not to bother. Which was why, as he climbed out of the hole, he came face to face with Félix.
“Bruno?! What?!” Félix took a few startled steps back, dressed in a soaked yellow bathrobe and similarly damp under shirt and shorts.
The house shivered again and a burst of wind almost knocked Bruno back into the walls. Félix grimaced visibly.
“Nevermind, glad you’re dressed, can you go get the midwife?” Félix asked in a rush, already walking past Bruno to get to Julieta’s door.
“The mid-?” Bruno started to ask, thunder cut him off and realization struck him, “Oh! Oh dios! Right. The midwife, I-I’m on it.”
He closed the painting and jogged to the stairs, ignoring the way his foot stung. His sandals slapped noisily against the shivering steps, he pulled his hood over his head as he burst out of the stairwell and into the rain. The tiles shook under his feet, slick with rain as they were it took all of his concentration to get to the front door. Once he did he found that the storm was thankfully isolated to just the sky above Casita. For the time being at least.
Once he was on dry, non-slippery ground, Bruno sprinted as fast as he could to the midwife’s house. He knocked urgently, gasping for breath. Thankfully, she must have heard the thunder, because she opened the door almost instantly, already carrying a bag full of her supplies.
“The babe is early,” she shouted over the wind that was creeping into town.
“You’re telling me,” he yelled back, still catching his breath.
The Madrigal family’s preferred midwife, Alexia Moreña, was just a few years older than his Má. She had helped Julieta and Pepa with all of their pregnancies, and had helped them find Amada a wet nurse when she was brought to them. She was one of those people in town who had never looked at him with any scorn, and one of the few he would break some of his own rules for when it came to visions. She never asked for frivolous visions, she only ever came to him when it was important (usually when it involved the health of a newborn or new mother), so he never turned her away.
He led her back to Casita, and helped her cross the courtyard to the stairs. Once they had made it to the second story, she brushed him off and disappeared into Pepa’s room.
Bruno hovered awkwardly for a second, briefly lost for what to do. He had played support with each one of his sisters’ pregnancies, but childbirth could be unpredictable. He mentally reviewed his memories, forming a rough to-do list out of experience.
A door cracked open behind him, he turned and found Camilo peeking out of his room, yawning.
“Tío Bruno? What’s going on?”
Step one, check on all the kids and make sure they stay away from the birth.
“Oh uh, well um, your Má uh-. Pepa is going into labor,” he cringed over the words, rubbing at his arm.
“What?!” Camilo squawked, he began to run to Pepa’s room, but Bruno caught him around the middle.
“Whoa, whoa, hold on kid, what are you doing?”
“I-! Well-. I don’t know, going to see if I can help?” Camilo looked up at him with wide helpless eyes, “What do we do? Do we uh get towels and hot water and stuff? Like in your story?”
Bruno couldn’t help but smile at his nephew, he was a mischievous kid, but a kind soul, “If the midwife sends for them. This can take hours, uh actually, you took almost a whole day. We usually hang around the house and just sort of be ready to help if it’s needed. You know? Try to get some rest, actually. The midwife might send you into town to pick up supplies when the market opens tomorrow, so uh, s-some of us should be well rested.”
“What are you going to do?”
Bruno shrugged, “Take the first shift.”
“The first shift?”
“Yep. We do this in shifts. Even if the labor goes by quick your Má will be exhausted tomorrow, she’ll need extra support. And a lot of food.”
“Shifts. Ok, we do this in shifts. Got it,” Camilo nodded, still looking a little jittery, but also as serious as a ten year old could ever be, “I can do shifts.”
“I know you can,” Bruno said, patting him on the shoulder.
Camilo nodded again, then turned and walked back to his room, muttering something about resting up so he could be ready. Bruno smiled at his back. He’d have to tell Pepa about this, it would warm her heart.
He checked on the rest of the kids, explaining what was happening to Mirabel and Octavia, who had both been woken up. Dolores was also wide awake but already knew what was happening, she made sure he knew she was available to help, showed him where the entrance to her sanctum of silence was this week, then disappeared into it until she was needed. Lastly, he shooed Luisa back to bed, who had also surmised what was happening, but was just as panicked as Camilo had been. She only agreed to go sleep once Bruno had pointed out they might need her gift in the morning to clear away storm debris.
Leandra had apparently woken up and been shooed back to bed while he was out fetching the midwife. When he checked on her, she sleepily told him she had been assigned to relieve Julieta if needed, and keep the kids busy if not. He kissed her good night, then retreated to the bathroom and finally checked on the cut on his foot.
It had long since stopped bleeding, so he cleaned it up then mentally declared it good to go.
When he left the bathroom, his Má was just leaving Pepa’s room, frowning worriedly, she saw him and gave him a rueful smile, “I always hate this part. The waiting. If I had my way-. Well, it doesn’t matter. I am going into town first thing tomorrow to see if the crib is ready, it has been recommended I rest, however if anything happens, anything at all. Come wake me.”
“Of course Má,” he said, nodding loyally. The crib had gotten damaged while in storage, so they had sent it to the woodworker for him to replace what was cracked. Their Má was the most logical choice to go pick it up and politely pressure the woodworker to hurry up and finish it if necessary. However, it was entirely possible she had been kicked out because she always got really nervous when Juli or Pepa went into labor, and that apparently wasn’t the energy either of them needed at such a time.
“Don’t get me wrong,” Julieta once said, “it’s always nice to see how much she cares-.”
“But does she have to show it just then?” Pepa had groused, “It’s already stressful enough without Má trying to crush my hand and constantly asking me if everything feels normal!”
Juli had nodded, “Especially since-, what even is normal in childbirth?”
“Pain,” Pepa had said, “and our Má freaking out.”
Julieta had chuckled and nodded again, then the conversation moved on.
In the here and now, Bruno kissed his mother’s cheek and once again promised to fetch her if she was needed. When she was gone, back to her room to pretend to sleep, he slipped into Pepa’s room. He was greeted by less noise than he had expected, Pepa wasn’t in bed yet, instead she was sitting on the couch in her entryway with Julieta. She smiled at him in greeting, but he could see the worry around her eyes. It would seem the storm outside was not caused by the labor itself.
“H-hey,” he greeted, quietly, “how’s it going?”
“Fine, fine, the contractions are still pretty far apart. Félix and Alexia are getting the bed ready for the hard part,” Pepa said, almost managing to sound casual.
“Bruno, you had a vision of her son, sí?” Julieta did not bother to sound casual, “Will you please tell her he’s going to be perfectly healthy?”
“He’s almost a month early,” Pepa said, “it’s not unusual to be a bit worried.”
Thunder crashed outside, like a symphony running into a brick wall.
Julieta raised a pointed eyebrow at Pepa, “A bit?”
“Oh hush.”
“He will be healthy,” Bruno reassured her, “healthy and happy and a little bit shy.”
“A little shy?” Pepa asked, voice suddenly a little wobbly.
“Sí, he’ll be a sweet kid,” Bruno sat on her other side, “in my vision he was maybe a year old, and hiding his face in your blouse while the church choir cooed over him.”
“Oh,” her eyes welled with tears, she wiped at them and made an attempt to scowl at him, “Bruno, y-you can’t tell me things like that! Not now when my emotions are already all over the place. Do you want to drown the town?”
“Myeh, it’ll be good for the crops. Especially given all the sunshine they’re about to get,” he plowed on, “this kid is going to be the most fucking adorable little baby you’ve ever seen.”
She laughed a little watery chuckle at his cursing, then put her head in her hands and groaned. He made sympathetic eye contact with Julieta, and they both sat silent and still next to her, waiting.
“I hate this part,” she eventually said.
“Oh?”
“Sí. I already feel crazy enough without-. My emotions are so much right now,” she lifted her head and scowled at the nearest window. Lightning flashed in response to her frustration. With nothing to say, he rubbed her back and Juli took her hand, holding it securely.
The labor didn’t last quite as long as Camilo’s had. No sooner had Alexia returned and declared the bed ready than Pepa’s contractions started speeding up. They got her into the bed, Bruno on one side, Félix on the other, and Julieta helping Alexia. Occasionally, Bruno would run and fetch whatever the women needed, so that Félix could stay with his wife through the entire birth. He would get the occasional glance at the clock as he did so, and each time was surprised to see how much time had passed.
During his last errand, refilling the pitcher of drinking water, Bruno walked into the kitchen and was greeted by Leandra, Agustín, his Má, and all of the kids while they ate a silent breakfast. As the pitcher filled, he updated them.
“We’re probably going to need that crib sooner than later, but it’s going well, Pepa said it’s the easiest birth yet,” he said to his Má, then to Camilo, “and your Má has been craving citrus, do you think you could help her with that?”
Once the pitcher was full he hurried back. Pepa wasn’t quite screaming when he entered the room, but the noise coming out from between her clenched teeth certainly wasn’t one of serenity. He refilled a few glasses then took up his spot next to Pepa, holding her hand as she started to push.
In another universe, Bruno wasn’t there for this, in another universe he was on the other side of the wall, praying while Agustín fetched whatever was needed, Abuela left to get the crib, and the kids sat in the dining room by themselves wondering what they should do. In that universe the cut on his foot didn’t get cleaned until long after Antonio was born, until it was too late to stop the cut from getting infected and he spent the next week limping, worried he might have to cut his foot off. (It would serve him right if he did, he thought to himself as his foot throbbed, his sister had needed him and he'd sat there uselessly, listening to her scream). In that universe, he had to wait until Antonio was old enough to sleep in the nursery and Mirabel was away at a sleepover to hold his nephew for the first time. In that universe he never forgave himself for not being there, even when he came out of the walls.
In this universe he wiped his sister’s brow and backed up every encouraging word spilling out of Félix’s mouth.
Antonio came into the world with a little wail, and out the window Bruno saw sunlight and rainbows chase away the storm. Félix grinned broadly as he cut the cord and helped Alexia clean the newborn, he kept telling Pepa how great she did, how perfect their baby was. If Pepa had enough energy she would have sobbed from sheer joy, but instead she just smiled, tears slipping down her face. Bruno wiped those away too and gave her a gentle smile when she looked at him with weary gratitude.
In the meantime, Julieta noticed the cut on Bruno’s foot, she gave Bruno a spare arepa and the cut disappeared from memory just as it disappeared from his flesh. He smiled at her gratefully, and she almost smiled back, to worn out to offer anything more than a quick, loving twitch at the corner of her lips. She hugged him, then gently stroked Pepa’s damp curls and asked if she thought she could manage a couple bites of arepa.
“Ugh, unfortunately the only thing that sounds worse than trying to keep down food right now is not letting you heal me,” Pepa groaned, weakly holding a hand out for the arepa. Julieta gave it to her, and she managed three whole bites before she shook her head and shoved it away, complaining of nausea.
Félix brought Antonio over to her and she cried some more as she held her baby boy for the first time. They all cooed over him for a little, until Juli and Alexia left to rest. Then it was just Bruno and the not-so-new parents; while they basked in their joy he fetched another pitcher of water, some clean blankets, and a bucket just in case Pepa’s nausea got worse. Alexia had taken the soiled blankets to be properly disposed of, so Bruno put down fresh sheets while Pepa fed Antonio and Félix got her to eat a little more. Eventually, Pepa had drifted off to a much needed sleep and Félix tucked her in, while Bruno held his newest nephew.
“I told her you’d be the most fucking adorable baby ever,” he whispered down at the sleeping infant.
“Right as always, ‘mano,” Félix murmured then suppressed a yawn. He held his hands out and Bruno gave him his son back. Félix settled onto the bed next to his wife, propped up against the headboard, and looked down at his youngest with open adoration, "Ay, little Antonio. I don't suppose you saw what his personality will be like?"
"Shy."
"Shy," Félix repeated, he chuckled and shook his head, there was a long pause in which they both just stared at the baby, then Félix asked, "Do I want to know what you were doing behind that painting?"
"Weird seer stuff," Bruno said, the answer falling past his lips with little thought. Which was good because it bought him enough time to consider what he should say next, Leandra had told him a few times that the truth was always easier to keep track of than a lie, so if he had to answer a dangerous question find a truth he didn't mind sharing.
"Weird seer stuff?"
"You know how I uh have little hammocks for my pet rats? And um how Casita lets rats stay in the walls as long as they don't go in the kitchen?"
"You made little hammocks for the rats in the walls?"
"Yeah-huh."
Félix laughed under his breath, then yawned, "Never change Bruno, never change. But uh get out. Sorry, nothing personal. I just want to be alone with my wife and son for a little."
"That's fair," Bruno said, with a nod as he backed towards the door, "see you when- uh see you later."
Bruno heaved a yawn of his own and left. Agustín was mopping up in the courtyard below while Leandra had organized the children into a fruit juice production line. Everyone asked him questions at once. He didn’t actually understand the individual questions, so he answered the basic gist of what they were asking.
“Baby- Antonio is adorable, and healthy. Pepa is exhausted, a little nauseous, and also healthy. I am exhausted, well uh n-not exhausted as Pepa, obviously, but-. Tired. I am tired. And officially off the clock, good night,” he said, while swatting the air as if to bat away any more questions.
“Alright, you heard the man, nap time for the night shift,” Leandra told the kids, “that means we all need to be quiet and let them sleep.”
“Aye aye Capitan Má,” Octavia shouted, saluting.
“Do you know what the word 'quiet' means?” Camilo asked her.
“Right, sorry,” Octavia put a hand over her mouth.
“Do you think she still wants citrus?” Mirabel asked.
“When she wakes up she’ll probably be starving,” Agustín said, barely loud enough for Bruno to hear as he opened his door, “we should have as much food ready to go as possible.”
“We’ll make a list-,” Leandra was saying as he shut the door behind him. He trudged down the stairs to his sleeping cave, pushed through the flaps of his tent, shuffled to his bed, and collapsed onto it.
He was fast asleep before it occurred to him he should have taken his sandals off.

I’m bored so here’s user jacarandaaaas hot takes rapid fire round
- I don’t think camilo is an asshole who’s heartless and I hate content that portrays him as such
- pepa is not a bad parent because of one 5 second scene where camilo comforts her
- julietas trauma is undermined a lot of the time and compared to her daughters
- comparing the characters trauma is weird
- i don’t think isabela is crazy violent post movie and would hate to be seen that way
- luisa is an introvert
- I don’t like the take that bruno avoided the kids pre movie I actually think he would spend more time with them than the adults
- I hate parentified mirabel. she’s 15 let her have fun she does not need to babysit people who are all older than her
- on another note yall undermine mirabel too much just because she has trauma but so does every other character. mirabel is not the only one who is traumatized and her trauma doesn’t make her any less capable than anyone else.
- isabela is smarter than she’s given credit for
- luisa is the most feminine out of the sisters but y’all discredit that because she has muscles even tho the movie has an entire song about how she wants to be seen as more than that.
- dolores can be fun
- camilo is watered down to being just “crazy” but y’all ignore how caring and considerate he is too just cause he’s a teenage boy
- let mirabel say fuck
- this one isn’t even a hot take anymore but none of the characters are perfect and that includes Bruno
- talking about bruno I hate when he’s shown to be completely incompetent at everything
- same with mirabel
- I think it takes a lot of time for isabela to fully embrace imperfection as we saw after wecid how fast she reverted back
- alma is not evil or villainous at all but people have a right to be upset at how she acted (the movie makes this a point she does say mean things) her actions are understandable not inexcusable
- going from one toxic dynamic to a different toxic dynamic doesn’t make it any less toxic (codependency)
- isabela and mirabels relationship is mutually strained
- luisa wasn’t a good sister just because she ignored mirabel instead of belittling her
- mirabel was just as ignorant as everyone else and I’m tired of y’all acting like she knew the whole time when she didn’t
- pepa never hated bruno and y’all didn’t understand wdtab
- LET MIRABEL BE FUN AND SILLY
- antonio wouldn’t abandon mirabel for his animals he already loved animals premovie anyways
- isabela is a huge softie and I hate how overlooked that aspect of her is
- luisa never hated isabela
- dolores never intended on ruining isabelas proposal she just heard a prophecy that everyone’s lives were gonna be ruined and was terrified
- mirabel has friends
- luisa is a grown woman who is capable of doing things for herself
- I think camilo was the most distant when bruno came back but after a while they became really close
- mirabel is brunos fav i mean come on she literally saved his life
- i don’t think pedro is given enough respect
uh yeah that’s all I have for now lmao
#encanto#encanto disney#disneys encanto#can u tell I’m bored#disney’s encanto#idk how many of these are considered hot takes or not but lol#I’ve had some of these for actual months now#heavy on mirabel I am SICK of y’all acting like she can’t do anything she was already traumatized pre movie#anyways don’t take these too seriously it’s not that deep I’m just bored

Orchids and Lilies might be my new favorite AU and I need more of it now (please). I don't know if you already have any ideas for this AU, but I kinda took it and ran with it, so here ya go. It can be all about how Isabela realizes how awful she was to Mirabel and her slowly fixing that relationship one step at a time while also slowly creeping out of that senorita perfecta box, maybe even leading up to the events of the film and Isabela helping Mirabel save the miracle. It'd be really fun to see that, especially how differently the scenes with Bruno would go, I imagine some of the cracks inside Casita's walls would slowly fade as Isabela and Mirabel fix their relationship and Bruno might make that connection, maybe Isabela would even be a part of the original vision, standing next to Mira, with the vision not only showing a cracked Casita but a crack between the sisters. OH! and I've got the perfect idea for what Bruno's second vision would show, it would show Dolores! The girls will talk with Dolores who will admit she loves Mariano, and Isabela will admit she doesn't want to marry him, leading to Dolores having that "what else can I do" moment as she realizes her dreams aren't impossible, I imagine she'd go wild in her own way, detailing all of her romantic fantasies, it'd be so much fun. And yeah, Isabela would still be courting Mariano, the proposal dinner still happens too, she hasn't completely broken out of her golden child role, Mirabel may or may not know about how Isabela really feels.
YEAHHHHHH I'M GLAD YOU LIKE IT GRAHHHHHG 🦅
Honestly I'd love to give more, but this was sort of an idea I had festering in my drafts and randomly decided to finally draw for 😭 I didn't get very far, at least not past the points in the post.
BUT YOUR IDEAS ARE SO COOL❗❗ I definitely did imagine and want them to get closer and make up, like I said, it's essentially a canon divergent; a "what-if" for what would happen if they made up soon in a way??? Anyway, they def pull up to Luisa too, she's not a major focus but they figure it out pretty fast. If they got problems, Lord knows the others do too 😭😭 anyway, I think Mirabel might have an idea on how Isabela feels and pieces it together, pretty quickly, idk
Anyway, yes!!! Dolores!!!! I do also agree that Isabela hasn't completely broken out of the mold. Not quite. But you know, it does help that Dolores does confess. How she goes wild I have no idea yet 🤓☝ but maybe they do try and come up with a plan to either stall or cancel the dinner or mess it up somehow without anyone getting in trouble. You know making it seem like an accident.
Silly idea that since Luisa's problem might be resolved earlier, it could go to Camilo cause. Where's harm in focusing on the warm siblings. Antonio's fine lmao but. Idk Camilo feels like he's always seen as another person and not himself??? Like people always ask him to use his gift to be someone else but not him and he just wants to be him. Bro needs to drop the mask and be straightforward 👹👹👹
This is low effort but 🌚

*after the grandkids have been separated for a few years*
Camilo: So what have you been up to recently?
Isabela: Leading a revolution for the wild nature safety with Antonio.
Camilo: Good for you two! Me, I've joined the mob.
Isabela: *nods* Oh, how cool! That's awesome!
Camilo: I know! Anyway, have you heard from the others? Mirabel?
Isabela: Happily living as a hermit in the woods. Luisa?
Camilo: Wrongfully locked up in an asylum, after being confused with her AU, which reminds me, we need to break her out later. Dolores?
Isabela: Cult leader.
Camilo: Yeah, that sounds about right.
