Yeah the 7 named Archangels like gabriel, michael, uriel, raphael n such are technically supposed to be the current highest ranking angels. Nicknamed the princes of heaven (each got their own title of what they prince of), they are based off of the days of the week monday thru sunday. Each each one outranking the other, but thats another mess that would complicate things more (And also their names vary a lot cuz interpretations n shit hence why I only listed the 4 famous ones)

Before anybody got cast outta heaven tho you had an even higher ranking angel.

Samael being THE highest ranking angel ever as a 12 winged seraphim (seraphim got a mini hierarchy within themselves depending on the number of wings they got so 6/8/10/12 wings or sth like that) and supposed to take more than 500 years to travel from his head to toe cuz hes a tall son of a bitch. He's been depicted as the archangel of death residing in the 7th heaven but is chief of the 5th heaven (idfk), as the angel that stopped abraham from sacrificing Isaac, as the serpent who tempted eve and is father of cain, as the husband of Lilith and father of demons. You guys know this asshole as the grim reaper. Ofc hes fallen af but he still serves god.

Lucifer, the famous boi himself, was ranked as a 6 winged seraphim and, compared to Samael, this dude was a saint lol. Theres also an interpretation where he was a cherub instead, so only had 4 wings.

Also he technically doesnt exist cuz there was a fuck up in the translation from hebrew to latin to english, lucifer in latin meaning morning star in english but the translator thought it was a name. If anyone was being refered to specifically in that passage as a morning star, it would have been the babylonian king Nebuchadnezzar II and not satan.

I havent researched enough/found any info regarding what type of angel the 7 named Archangels are exactly but you can sorta guess from samael and lucifer's rankings (IF lucifer is actually satan).

Samael is known as an Archangel tm but isnt listed as one of the 7 named ones bc hes special. With this we know Archangerls with a capital A could be seraphims.

Now, we all know the story about how satan got his ass handed to him by michael right? Thats bc Michael was more powerful, thus outranking him. Meaning Michael is at least a 8 winged Seraphim, if lucifer was a seraph (6 winged seraph if lucifer was a cherub).

N this is where that stops and I start talking about Good Omens n base assumptions off of the shit i said above;

So michael is an 8 (or 6) winged seraph, gabriel would be one too and potentially even a higher ranked one.

So no, aziraphale as a principality is far outranked by gabriel, uriel, and michael.

He's even outranked in one of my favourite headcanons where he was originally cherub (due to guarding the eastern gate of eden that shit's a cherub's job).

I have no clue whatsoever about Sandalphon though. He used to be a human who ascended into angel..hood.. he's known as the brother/twin brother of metatron who also used to be a human.

Here's the thing; Metatron is the highest ranking amongst the angels (thus outranks sandaphon) and is known as a celestial scribe sooo he's technically ranked lower than principality aziraphale. HOWEVEr, the lil bitch has the current highest ranking seraphim 'prince of the high angelic order' mr seraphiel themselves as a sugar daddy according to the book of enoch (btw enoch is metatron's old human name). So idk if that affects his ranking, but also in the show metatron is seen as the voice of the allmighty which sounds like a rlly high ranking job sooo I dont know what the hell is going on with metatron and sandalphon cuz aziraphale should outrank them but the show's lore says otherwise.. maybe.
