The demand for a caste census continues to gain popularity. After Bihar published the results of its case census in October, pressure is growing on the Karnataka government to release its findings. Andhra Pradesh has started its caste census and there are increasing calls for a similar exercise in Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal.
With direct implications for reservations in education and public sector jobs, welfare provisions and political mobilisation, caste censuses could be decisive to uncovering power relations in the country.
The 2024 general elections are due soon and a caste census may momentarily seem to have diminished in importance, given the gains made by the Bharatiya Janata Party-led National Democratic Alliance with inauguration of the Ram temple in January. But its significance will doubtless become apparent after the election when the challenges of poverty, unemployment and related issues of resource distribution rise to the fore.
So far, the focus in caste census discussions has largely been on ascertaining the populations of caste communities and tackling problems related to the multiplicity of jati names. How people identify themselves is shaped by a complex mix of tradition, personal beliefs political positioning and the influence of community organisations. Understanding identities is, therefore, a weighty task.
At the same time, equal attention must be paid to the opportunity presented by the exercise to measure land ownership by caste. Caste censuses can reveal crucial patterns in how power in India is enmeshed in land. Most importantly, the caste census has the potential to bring land reform back to political agendas.

WHY I DONOT HAVE JOB SATISFACTION AS PER ASTROLOGY, A CASE STUDY
The native in question donot have satisfactory career and so he wanted to know why as per vedic astrology, as he has inspite of moon and Jupiter in Kendra.
Based on the given birth details DOB 15-08-1987 at 3:56 AM in Machilipatnam, Andhra Pradesh, India and the analysis is done as per KP vedic astrology padhatti / system.
The plotted horoscope shows karkat lagna / cancer ascendant with sun mercury n venus in 1st house, mars in 2nd house, ketu in 3rd house, Saturn in 5th house, rahu in 9th house and Jupiter n moon in 10th house.
The moon is in ashwini nakshatra in mesh rashi / moon in aries sign and the current ruling mahadasha is moon.
In order to learn why the native has unsatisfactory job, one need to study the 6th and 10th cuspal sublord. The current ruling mahadasha will let us know how the dasa lords are giving its effect on the career of the native and many more events in the life of the native during its ruling period.
From the horoscope the 6th cuspal sublord is venus and its strongly signifying 1 and 11th house as its untenanted in the planet level, mercury strongly signifying 1,4 and 12th house as it is in own nakshatra in the nakshatra level and rahu strongly signifying 2,5,6,9 and 10th house as its untenanted in the sublord level.
Venus is in conjunction with sun signifying 2 and 3rd house.

Mercury is in conjunction with sun signifying 2 and 3rd house.
The 10th cuspal sublord is Saturn and its signifying 5,7,8 and 9th house in the planet level, mercury strongly signifying 1,4 and 12th house as it is in own nakshatra in the nakshatra level and venus strongly signifying 1 and 11th house as its untenanted in the sublord level.
Mercury is in conjunction with venus signifying 1 and 11th house.
Mercury is in conjunction with sun signifying 2 and 3rd house.
Venus is in conjunction with sun signifying 2 and 3rd house.
Venus is in conjunction with mercury signifying 1,4 and 12th house.
The current ruling mahadasha is moon and its strongly signifying 1,2 and 10th house as its untenanted in the planet level, ketu signifying 1,3,4 and 12th house in the nakshatra level and Saturn signifying 5,7,8 and 9th house in the sublord level.
Moon is in conjunction with Jupiter signifying 6 and 10th house.
From the analysis I conclude that the native will NOT HAVE A SATISFACTORY CAREER as it is not promised in his horoscope.
A planet can only give good result when it signify good and favorable houses for that event. Here in the native’s horoscope few planets are not favoring the career event and so he is not experiencing the feel of satisfaction in his career.

i get most of my book recommendations from you, but where do you get your book recommendations from?
omg im so touched. well, idk what to tell you except i spend a lot of time on the internet and the amazon algorithm does manage to curate a selection for me. but i think my favourite way to find new books is actually to go to a weird bookstore and try to find some local publishing houses, if possible. the bookstore in hazratganj that has my whole heart is Universal, and they ALWAYS have some books from local lucknow presses. this has happened to me in Pondicherry too, where i just found some nice books from local presses.
finding books is also just my job - which means i end up knowing a lot about different publishing houses, and spending a lot of time in their catalogues. aleph press usually has a lovely catalogue, and i do like the books available in the orient blackswan translation section. i think one of my favourite translated books from there last year (book called Softly Died a Lake, which was about village life near the lake Kolleru, in Andhra Pradesh). i think Zubaan's catalogue also usually comes with some nice books, and i usually ADORE Leftword's catalogue. they're having a May Day sale today btw!!!! i like Speaking Tiger's catalogue usually too.
for children's lit u can find me lurking on the pages and websites of Eklavya. i think the Cycle magazines tell u so much about different hindi writers. Pratham always has a lovely catalogue for multilingual books for kids, too, and i really enjoy reading them.
see if any of these catalogues do something to you, or whether or not they help in finding more books!! thats usually what i do. i also hang out with so many people who read, so i use them for recommendations shamelessly.

RRR at Oscars 2023: Why India's Naatu Naatu song wowed the jury
A track from Telugu blockbuster RRR, short for Rise Thunder Revolt, Naatu was the main Indian film melody to be selected for an Oscar.
Its artists likewise performed at the Foundation Grants, which are being broadcasted in India on Monday morning.
The tune turned into a worldwide sensation - moving perpetual Instagram reels and dance patterns via web-based entertainment - after the film's delivery in US last year, where its fast rhythm and synchronized movement were a moment hit with the crowds.
Created by MM Keeravani with verses wrote by Chandrabose, Naatu previously left a mark on the world once in January when it won the Brilliant Globe for best unique tune, overcoming competitors like Rihanna, Taylor Quick and Woman Crazy. That very month, the melody additionally won the Pundits Decision grant for the best tune.
"It's not a result of the music or the dance - the whole story of RRR can be summed up inside these 10 minutes of Naatu," the movie's chief, SS Rajamouli, told Vanity Fair.
A verifiable dream, highlighting hotshots Slam Charan and Jr NTR in lead jobs, RRR recounts the imaginary story of two progressives who battle contrary to English rule in India.
Rajamouli says he imagined Naatu as a "battle scene" in which two political dissidents push an English official to the brink of collapse - through dance.
"The melody is a story inside the bigger story of the film," the producer said.
Back in 2020, when RRR was still under creation, all Rajamouli told Keeravani was that he wanted a tune that would feature the moving ability of his legends.
Keeravani then, at that point, went to his number one lyricist Chandrabose and said: "Compose anything you like. In any case, this story happens during the 1920s, so use words proper to the time."
With no song or tune to work with, Chandrabose previously concocted the snare line of "Naatu" and that signifies "Dance, Dance" in Telugu.
He let BBC Telugu know that he composed an uptempo tune with a quick beat, which he realized Keeravani leaned toward. The beat is generally utilized in society tunes of the two Telugu-talking provinces of India - Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.
Attracting motivation from his experience growing up Telangana, Chandrabose incorporated a few folksy references - like eating bean stew with jowar roti (red sorghum bread) - in the tune.
Most of the melody was finished in two days, Chandrabose said. Yet, it required 19 months for the leftover piece to meet up.
Rajamouli and Keeravani credit a lot of Naatu's prosperity to the melody's choreographer, Prem Rakshit, who made around 95 dance ventures for the track.
"Every one of them [the actors] have their own style," Rajamouli said in a prior interview. "So he needed to find something that fit the two of them."
Rakshit said he made 30 forms of the mark step in which NTR Jr and Smash Charan hit the dance floor with their arms around one another. The wonderful arrangement must be additionally made do after Charan asked the chief "in the event that they could follow through with something" with the ensemble.
The melody comes full circle in a long distance race dance-off as every one of the artists kick up a tempest, gradually imploding individually in depletion until just the legends stay standing.
Slam Charan and NTR Jr then go to take on one another and a dance rivalry between the two legends follows. Rajamouli said he attempted to set out the film's subjects of fellowship, contention and fortitude through the grouping.
Also, the rest is history.
Since the film's delivery last year, fans have been attempting to duplicate the unpredictable foot turns and infectious dance moves. At film screenings in Los Angeles, crowds were much of the time seen racing to the stage to move when the tune played.
Despite the fact that the track was shot before the Mariinskyi Castle, a beautiful ocean blue design in Ukraine, Rajamouli said his point was to reproduce the environment of an Indian town. In past meetings, the chief has admitted that individuals referred to him as "insane" for shooting in a country very nearly war.
The group shot the tune north of 15 days, working 12 hours every day with 150 artists and a team of 200 individuals.
Rakshit said that each time he approved a take, Rajamouli would request "one more" shot.
"He went outline by casing to ensure we were in a state of harmony," Charan said in a meeting.

Book Review: 'Telugu: The Best Stories of Our Times'
Short Stories Edited by Volga. Translated by M. Sridhar and Alladi Uma
I would grade this short story collection a two out of five. So I’ll talk about two positives and a lot of negatives.
One, the stories selected by Volga do a good job of highlighting the oppression and hardships faced by the minorities in our country. It has stories covering a wide demographic of people, like farmers, prostitutes, teachers, naxalites etc. Every story has something to say on the state of the Indian society, and the various injustices meted out to women, Muslims, Harijans and Girijans (I did not know that this word exited before reading this book, pairs well with Harijan).
Two, some of the stories were genuinely nice. Some of them critiqued capitalism.
And now, I’ll start with my rant. Let’s gooo.
The book, is titled “Telugu: The Best Stories of Our Times”. However, the word “best” was interpreted in a very specific by the editor. The very thing that I praised the book for in the earlier paragraph is also it’s biggest blot. Since every story presented here can be labelled as misery porn, exploitation porn, poverty porn, sexism porn, racism porn, casteism porn, bigotry porn etc. etc. Every single story. And the problem isn’t that the stories leaned too heavily into these subject matters, but that there isn’t anything else to most stories than the social commentary itself. No subtlety, no satire/comedy, no romance, no magical realism/fantasy no fancy literary schtick, nothing. Nothing to lighten the mood. I know that this is an unreasonable demand, especially since these stories are based on real life experiences that millions of people go through daily. But then maybe the title should have been something other than “Best”. How many stories do I need to read about oppressed backward caste women and their husbands who spend everything on alcohol, leaving the family destitute and hungry? Most, if not all of these stories could have been from any part of the country, and there isn’t much to highlight that these stories are from Andhra Pradesh/ Telangana. These stories have been picked only to shock the Indian liberal. What about the Dalit boys and girls who might be looking for a story to escape into? Barely any stories where the people from marginal communities had fun, or lived a comfortable and happy life.
Coming to the translation, I think the translators did a good job of conveying the plot. But nothing of the dialect/tone of the original seemed to have made it across to the translated English version. I have no idea if this was the translator’s fault or of the selection. They wrote that they made a significant effort to capture the different nuances, but all the stories felt the same to me. So none of the literary merit, if any at all, broke through to the translation.
And as always, hypocrisy and cognitive dissonance of the Indian liberal when it comes to animal consumption was evident throughout. Protagonists compared their treatment to cattle, while happily enjoying buffalo curry afterwards. One muslim man whose obsession with beef destroyed his and his family’s life. A Christian woman is shocked that her Hindu friends shunned her Christmas party where most of the menu comprised animal products. One man who slaughtered 20 pigs for his daughter’s marriage. These instances of animal cruelty were peppered throughout in almost every story. Except for one where treatment of circus animals is showcased as barbaric. I find it hard to be sympathetic to these kinds of people.
Another point that struck me while writing this was about how almost all the stories are depicted in a black and white manner. There is the evil oppressor and the poor and innocent victim. There are hardly any grey characters in the stories. Reminds me of the first short story of, “The Adivasis will Not Dance”. I DNFed after the first story itself, not only because of the animal cruelty that is bound to play a central role in any story written by an Indian liberal, but also the pretence that the SC/ST community stands like a bulwark against the xenophobic and Islamophobic acts committed by the Hindutva right wing. Stories like this one highlight the line of thinking prevalent among the people, which Indian liberals won’t acknowledge. If they do, they blame it on propaganda and move on.
All in all, I was excited to read this book for quite a few months, but it turned out to be a damp squib. The word “best” turned out to be misnomer, because I’m sure there are lots of better stories out there waiting to be translated.

WHY AM I LOOSING JOB SO FREQUENTLY AS PER MY HOROSCOPE, A CASE STUDY
The native is frequently loosing job after 5-6 months of the new job and this has been happening from quite a long time, so wanted to know about his career as per vedic astrology of his horoscope.
Based on the given birth details DOB 01-7-1995 at 01:24 AM in Guntur, Andhra Pradesh, India and the analysis is done as per KP vedic astrology paddhati / system.
The erected horoscope shows mesh lagna / aries ascendant with ketu in 1st house, mercury in 2nd house, venus n sun in 3rd house, moon in 4th house, mars in 5th house, rahu in 7th house, Jupiter in 8th house and Saturn in 12th house.
The moon is in pushya nakshatra in karkat rashi / moon in cancer sign and the current ruling mahadasa is venus.
In order to learn why the native is frequently loosing job during past few years, one need to study the 6th and the 10th cuspal sublord. The past ruling mahadasa was Ketu and by studying it we can understand how the dasa lord has give its impact on the native’s career during its rule.
In the same way one need to study the current ruling mahadasa and understand how the current dasa lords are giving its effect on the native’s career and many more events in the life of the native during its ruling period.
From the horoscope the 6th cuspal sublord is Saturn and its signifying 10 and 11th house in the planet level, Jupiter signifying 8,9 and 12th house in the nakshatra level and mars signifying 1,5 and 8th house in the sublord level.
The 10th cuspal sublord is Jupiter and its signifying 8,9 and 12th house in the planet level, Saturn signifying 10 and 11th house in the nakshatra level and rahu strongly signifying 2,6 and 7th house as it is in own nakshatra in the sublord level.
THE PAST RULING MAHADASA WAS KETU and strongly signifying 1,5,8 and 12th house as it is in own nakshatra in the planet level and Saturn signifying 10 and 11th house in the sublord and sub sublord level.
The current ruling mahadasa is venus and its signifying 2 and 7th house in the planet level, mars signifying 1,5 and 8th house in the nakshatra level and mercury strongly signifying 2,3 and 6th house as its untenanted in the sublord level.
From the analysis it is clearly seen that the native DONOT HAVE SMOOTH SAILING IN CAREER IN HIS DESTINY LEVEL. Means the native will face ups and downs in his career in his life and this is his destiny.
The intensity of UPS AND DOWNS IN THE CAREER IS DECIDED BY THE MAHADASA LORD AS EVERY MAHADASA HAS PRE-DEFINED AGENDA TO BE ACTIVATED AS EVENTS IN THE NATIVE’S LIFE.
UNLIKE RAHU, KETU DONOT LIKE MATERIALISTIC THINGS IN LIFE AND WOULD LIKE TO KEEP ITSELF AWAY FROM IT. This is the natural characteristic of ketu.
Here in the native’s horoscope ketu is signifying 1,5,8 and 12th houses which activate the house in its ruling period and thus 5th house being the 12th house of the 6th house ( house of service / job ) and 8th house from the 10th house, the 8th house of pain and frustration and 12th house of loss IS RESPONSIBLE FOR HIS LOOSING OF THE JOB OR IN OTHER WORD THE NATIVE COULD NOT RETAIN HIS JOB AND KETU MAHADASA WAS RUNING FROM 21-8-2013 to 21-8-2020.
This was the reason why the native would not have interest in his work and get more inclined towards spiritualism and occultism.
Now currently the native is running thru venus mahadasa and it is better than ketu so that native can focus in his job now.
It is better to seek guidance from a good astrologer to know better about his destiny and act accordingly in future ahead.

Feeding the Homeless: Combating the Crisis of Homelessness and Street Children
Homelessness is a pressing issue in India, affecting approximately 1.77 million individuals. The reasons for homelessness are diverse, ranging from poverty and unemployment to natural disasters and domestic violence. Many homeless individuals also suffer from mental health challenges, substance abuse, and physical disabilities, making it even harder for them to find stable housing and employment.
At Help Foundation, we are committed to providing nutritious meals to homeless individuals, including adults and street children, in Kurnool District. Through our "annadanam" program, inspired by the act of donating food as charity, we not only alleviate hunger but also boost energy levels and improve overall health. By establishing a sense of community and trust through regular meals, we aim to connect these individuals with additional support services and resources, helping them transition out of homelessness.
Street children, who face a separate set of challenges, are estimated to number around 20 million in India. Many are orphans or runaways who have fled abuse, neglect, or poverty. These vulnerable children often end up working in hazardous or illegal industries to survive, leaving them exposed to exploitation and abuse.
With your help, our NGO provides more than just meals to street children. We offer healthcare services, education, vocational training, and job placement opportunities, empowering them to gain independence and stability. For those unable to attend school due to financial constraints, our "Sponsor a Child" initiative ensures that they can access quality education, avoiding early marriages and securing a brighter future.
Caring for Leprosy Patients: A Mission to Enhance Lives
Help Foundation's mission extends to enhancing the quality of life for persons with disabilities and those affected by leprosy. We distribute nutritious food and blankets to the leprosy colony in Kurnool District, where approximately 60 families reside. Leprosy patients face immense challenges, including the loss of fingers and recurring health issues, making it difficult for them to work or earn a living.
Your support can bring smiles to their faces as they receive essential food packets containing fresh bread, bananas, oranges, and biscuits. By contributing to our efforts, you can bring hope and comfort to these individuals who struggle daily due to the impact of leprosy.
