To be honest, at this point I don't think it would have been entirely different. It would have been More, I guess. Each part perhaps a little longer, development a bit slower, delving a bit deeper into their psyches, more time periods and mysteries...

The kinds of things I feel sad about missing are things like. I wanted to give Steve a cane. I wanted to touch more directly on Adam's PTSD. I wanted to get more into vampires, share some more of the worldbuilding I did, I wanted to send them to so many places, I have a list that's like an entire page of ideas! just... More! I still want to do these things, I'm trying to fit everything I can in... But yeah. Theres really only so much I can do with the limited time!

It's hard to explain, but when you rewrite everything to make it smaller, it's not necessarily different in very tangible ways. It's not quite like "this was the original ending but I had to change it" (for me, at least) it's more like... I planned a five course meal for my guests, but had to go with three. Everyone is still getting fed! And no one expected five courses anyways. The goal is that we're all full and happy.

I know this makes it confusing why I'm complaining about the situation, if it's no different tangibly what's the problem? Well the answer to that is it's extremely hard to condense things that, quite frankly, were already pretty dense. It's really hard! But it's work worth doing, to me...

So to answer your question, the glimpse into what it would have been is what I'm going to give you.

#it's just shorter #the way i write already utilizes HEAVY cutting #i delete entire episodes all the time #I'm already pretty efficient with my space #but this... it's been like. every single moment has to be capitalizing on like four different threads #the ending the next arc the current arc their characters the lore. like #and it can't be in a way that's boring #I'm still working hard to make each arc relatively standalone #just #it's all hard!!!#and the thing is it will #if i did my job right #feel seamless to you as the reader #the only indication i cut a bunch should be that I'm telling you i am right now...#just yeah #a lot of people keep asking me where i am and what's taking so long #like well!!!#I'm trying to make it good!!!#so be patient please!#if you wanted a rushed ending we coulda been halfway there by now #but i want it done right!#so that takes longer!#asks #anon #hope this makes sense #i don't really have a huge “this is what they're taking from you”#I'm trying to build you guys a playground you can play on #and i trust through the life you breathe into it #it will be fuller than i could have done regardless.#so write. draw stuff. send them one million places

ok sorry to rant out of nowhere but why is tender is the flesh on every book youtuber's top 10 (or whatever) best horror books ever list 😭 it was so bad, I couldn't even finish it bc it was so uninteresting... like I would get it if a few people loved it bc people's tastes are always gonna vary, but the fact that its SO popular just baffles me like am I missing something or am I crazy or what lmao??? and one of the best books EVER?????

#it was just boring and predictable and full of weird misogyny and ''the meat industry is the same as killing/enslaving humans'' vibes #and the premise has already been done many times (and done better....)#like I wonder if people only think its so ''scary'' bc its the first time they've come across the concept of humans being farmed for meat #which IS really scary and disturbing #but if they're self professed horror fans who have read a ton of horror books how have they not come across it before lmao #like even lovecraft wrote a story with that premise #anyway no hate if you loved this book sjdghsdfs #I'm just reaching my limit with every time I'm watching a video of someone's fav horror novels and they whip this out halfway through #and then I'm suddenly doubting if I can trust their judgement on anything else 😭#also ftr it's not like the worst book I've ever read (by far) but its just so mediocre imo #🐊

sometimes at work i get emails about changes in our department that i feel are 100% because of me. and maybe that's just me being anxious and paranoid but actually it certainly isn't.

#one time i was working at our drive thru window (that's something we have for some reason) and trying to empty the drop bins at the #same time. but the problem with that is the drop bins are LITERALLY halfway across the library #and my boss was working in the workroom at the time (which he almost never does bc he has an office)#so he saw that everytime i managed to get across the library then id get 3 books on a cart before the bell at the drive up window rang again #and that happened like 4 times in a row #not like he got up to do it though. just sat there pretending he didn't see it #then the next day we got an email from him requesting the way we empty the drop bins change #and YESTERDAY i was reading a book at the check out desk because of a DIFFERNT change in our department #bc we used to check books in at the desk too. but for some reason we stopped doing that a few months ago #so since then it's been terminally boring to work up there esp. since i work in the evening when there's less people at the library #but TODAY we got an email saying that we shouldn't be reading physical books up there #even though i keep my head on a swivel so that i can see when patrons come up #next thing you know he's gonna say we can't listen to music or ebooks at the drive up window. it's all horseshit. it not like i care though #whatever mike. you're bald anyway.#it feels passive aggressive to me. just pull me aside and say it to my face #and he said that it was a request from someone who works outside of our department so what the FUCK do they know about it #and i'm almost certain i know who it was. stupid as fuck. grrrr bark bark bark bark #i like my job i swear i like my job. but sometimes my job is stupid and it sucks.

i finished the merry wives of windsor today btw. 4 shakespeare plays left to go

#tales from diana #i'm in a pickle bc i've been burning through the remainders in the last year or so in a way that makes me... melancholic #i didnt hate merry wives even though i wasn't looking forward to it for a very long time bc i knew it was mostly prose #im neither a big falstaff fan (im sorry) not do i get the most charm from shakespeare from his prose #but admittedly it was still rather enjoyable as a comedy. you dont get a lot of fake cuckoldry plots from shakespeare specifically #not in comedy certainly! so i enjoyed the trickery of it #not the worst shakespeare play as far as pure entertainment value at all. nothing's as boring as henry viii #that one was a big disappointment #i have one play in each category left (counting the romances as their own category) (and counting kinsmen as his work)#coriolanus. king john. measure for measure actually! and two noble kinsmen #i know a lot about measure for measure already i just have never read it in full. twelfth night was like that as a reading experience too #i wasn't in a rush to get to it but in the case of measure. i wanted to get merry wives out of the way first #and leave my last pure comedy to be something i would almost certainly enjoy more #now im kind of in a pickle bc i feel the ecstasy of being tempted to just finish the complete plays already #but i also wanna pace myself and read other things #i kinda have this idea of what if i saved the last 4 to read in 2025? but we're not even halfway through 2024 #i dont have that kinda patience #maybe ill reread some old favorites in the meantime or something. idk #i dont think i mentioned it on here but i got the rsc complete works second edition from 2022 #last month! bc my riverside is in delicate condition. but i switched back between the two when reading merry wives #i just couldnt help it. i miss my mother. it's always going to be the most personally comfortable book for me to read from #i read the majority of these plays in that volume. that book TAUGHT ME to read shakespeare #but i need to be strong and i also enjoy comparative literary studies and a more recent book has a lot to offer #im yammering on to myself incoherently im sure nobody really cares what im saying. even i dont! ok goodbye goodnight

listening to "the southern book club's guide to slaying vampires" is such a mixed experience because on one hand you're treated to a wonderful narrator (bahni turpin) whose voice acting is beautiful and who makes wonderful character choices in pronunciation and mispronunciation and on the other hand.... the book itslelf is racist and sexist

#i'm truly surprised by the overall glowing reception it received now that i'm at the halfway point #i was excited to read this despite finding hendrix's other work fairly mediocre #it looked promising #but much like i found 'the final girl support group' flat from the start here too i began noticing problems almost right away #even if the prose fits my tastes much better #being accurate to the time (the 90s) shouldn't automatically translate into a reflection of the time #it's ambitious to work with an unlikable protagonist #more ambitious to make them sympathetic #sometimes hendrix is successful #but the inciting incident of the novel #(afluent and middle class women are bored with reading world renowned novels and quit their club after they fail to read about apartheid)#is endorsed and reinforced by every subsequent choice the characters make #i'll grant you only that the belittlement these women experienced at home is affecting #southern book club's guide to slaying vampires #grady hendrix #southern horror
