Good point! I won't lie, I'm not great with the Journey chronology, and also the entire teleri situation just... it's weird. It's weird, right? It doesn't quite pass the sniff test, idk. And Finwe's not exactly proactive once he does find out that Elwe vanished:
"and Finwë grieved when the Teleri came not, and yet more when he learned that Elwë was forsaken, and knew that he should not see him again, unless it were in the halls of Mandos."
(There is also, of course, an argument to be made that Elu and Miriel both ditched him first and that the Melkor choice was driven by the wider will of the noldor population. But then, I suspect that the people who go around calling themselves the forsaken aren't entirely open to alternate perspectives, and Finwe's descendents' record of kinslaying isn't likely to do Finwe's own reputation any favors.)
A nasty, bitter sentiment that I know in my heart was common among the umanyar who knew Finwe, especially among the sindar:
Of course the man who forgot (abandoned) Elwe for the sparkling new allure of Aman would also forget (abandon) miriel for someone fresh and new like Indis. Would forget the dead and stolen of Cuivienen in favor of the political path of least resistance and invite Melkor into his city.
