I think I'm realigning this for the second time because the idea of xehanort becoming a mentor to sora in quadrature will never leave my brain.

Its actually super interesting.

The both of them are presented in the narrative as foils to each other who experienced similar things (the oft-mentioned time travel that kind of screwed up both of them, multiplication of self, ...the X-blade...) and came from the same start, and the conflict comes down to a difference in psychology between them. Sora knocks him down at the very end with that very thing (oh how I missed his deep quotes; fitting that Xehanort would get one last one).

Honestly, I think the games were building up to Sora interacting with Xehanort for a long time (the payoff didn't satisfy me, but that's separate).

A connection between them I think would involve directly challenging Xehanort's obsessive need to fix things (by any means necessary), with Sora's policy of let things lie/go with the flow because you can't control fate. Sora will weather a storm. Xehanort will try to divert it. And if Sora had gotten to him much earlier, I think he could've challenged that need for control. It makes me think a lot.
