Every time I put on an adaptation of Henry IV Part 1 I am reminded afresh just how unhinged I am about this play
#I found a radio adaptation on the BBC which I rashly put on just before bed; I knew it was a favourite but forgot I'm not normal about it#I'm supposed to be asleep but instead I'm just lying wide awake vibrating with glee because Hotspur's having a shouting match#Also I have a surprising amount of King Henry's dialogue memorised; not the character whose lines I expected to stick#Ah there's always something new though#I do notice that almost every adaptation pronounces 'eldest son' after 'Mordake Earl of Fife' as if they're the same person#I'm not sure whether that's Shakespeare's mistake or a scribe's
