Actually devastated by the central theme of the Io and Till comic.

Io loved him and yet she knew she couldn’t protect him. She couldn’t keep him. In this world, she doesn’t have the luxury of keeping something as precious and fleeting as Till. He’s a tool and she is his maker. She brought him into a world where she fears he will only suffer. And Till has suffered. Till has suffered so much.

But Io wanted him to be loved. Prayed that someone could ever possibly love her baby as much as she did because she knew one day she couldn’t offer him love anymore. All a mother can hope for is that someone will love you like you deserve when I’m gone.

And someone did.

Someone loved Till. Someone protected him. Someone’s entire life was driven by love for her baby.

Someone on Twitter pointed out that Ivan’s name means “gift of God.”

Ivan was Io’s gift from whatever being she desperately prayed to.

Ivan didn’t think he mattered to anyone, but look.

He was everything Io ever hoped and begged the universe for for her child.

one thing that never fails to get to me about alien stage is the differences in how the characters are treated by their respective alien guardians. something about it just feels so realistic.

mizi is treated like a beloved pet. they give her toys and love her and cry when she's sent away, and she cries too, because she's genuinely attached to them.

sua is treated like a part of a collection. made to fit her owner's aesthetic, a dozen young girls all dressed in white. as a child, she grows detached, almost like she believes herself to be an inanimate object too.

till is treated, unfortunately, the way a lot of misbehaving pets end up being treated. sold with a discount, physically abused, kept in restraints and a muzzle because of his rebellious behaviour.

ivan is spoiled but never really nourished, he's rewarded with special treatment because of his good behaviour and talents, but in the process is isolated from his peers.

luka is treated somewhat similar to sua, but taken to a new extreme. he's raised specifically for the purpose of winning alien stage, he's trained not to feel fear or empathy while on stage. his eating is controlled entirely by heperu, who gets to decide every other aspect of his life as well.

It was a short-lived one, but it was a gift nonethless for her child. To have someone love him, and protect him as much as possible.

Ivan was 'a gift of god'. And Io would never truly know her prayer was answered by his actions.

ivantill ruining my life. what if till gave that flower crown to ivan on purpose because he wanted to reach out and be friends with him only for ivan to destroy them because he knows that the flowers are cameras?? but to till, it was a loud and blatant rejection of his friendship, of his reaching out first oh mygod and then he reacted the only way he knew how and started a fight with ivan. what if its the reason he started distancing himself from ivan (and by extension mizi, for fear of being rejected the same wayurhvsh), and ivan not understanding the distance started doing anything to get his attention again i am sick???!

quite contrary to what ivan thought what an unreliable narrator that'd make him lmfao
