Jaehaera (oc) x Daemon Targaryen
War alongside Daemon
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Because you asked so nicely… @bluecloudsworld.
Masterlist
“Where the hell is he?”
“Be patient uncle—,” Laenor all but pleaded, his eyes flickering from place to place, searching for a sign, a flutter in the clouds, a piercing squeal, the glimpse of red.
“I knew this was a mistake, no right fool would go into the pits in these conditions, and the fact we are now trusting a madman—,”
“Daemon will help us—,”
“He will ruin us!” Lord Vaemond scream, rage of defeat boiling through his throat. “And Driftmark will be left in shambles because of the King’s neglect and his brothers temperament.”
Laenor could feel the words weighing on his tongue, you’re the reason we lost the first half of this war. But he dare not say it.
While his uncle spoke of temper as if he was not throwing a tantrum this very moment, Laenor knew better than to test it farther. Vaemond got rash when angry, both in mouth and hands.
And the last thing Laenor needed was more inner conflict within his family due to an avoidable squabble.
“Father trusts him,” Laenor reasoned, his hands held out, meant to mend the tension, “and Daemon promised not to do anything foolish.”
Vaemond scoffed at the thought, the rogue prince not causing trouble? What a thought.
“I can’t believe the king is allowing this.”
“Uncle—,”
“It’s bad enough that we have let his fool of a brother lead, let only have to coddle a child.”
“Uncle, be—,” Laenor eyes grew desperate to stop his uncle, eyes straying to behind the ranting lord, whom had no concern for his surroundings.
“A princess no less, who’ll no doubt need coddling—,”
“Oh I’m sure I’ll be fine Lord Vaemond, but it’s nice to hear that you care so much for my well being.”
Laenor’s uncle stilled, arms tense with the outrage he could no longer express. It would seem that he needed practice when reviewing his surroundings.
Turning with a placated smile, the prideful Lord laughed as if everything he said were a mere jest, and those not laughing were too stiff.
“Princess!” He announced, acting down his surprise with mocking joy. “Lovely to see you once again. My god how much you’ve grown! You were at my belt the last time we met, now you’re nearly as tall—perhaps even taller than me.” He realized her true size as she approached him further, stalking up so smoothly one would think she were slithering.
Humming in agreement, Jaehaera passed by Vaemond without a second thought in order to glance at the battle plans scattered about the makeshift table. “Daemon is off surveilling the territory for us, so I’m here to help lead you in his stead,” glancing up, having seen enough to know that there truly was no plan, Jaehaera gave Laenor a playful wink to acknowledge her dear friend, “I hope that does not disappoint you too much.”
“No,” Vaemond quickly lied corrected. “I’m just saddened Daemon did not keep his word as he said. He’s rather…”
“Chaotic?” Jaehaera threw out, moving the map as she pleased, “Dishonest? Undependable?”
Allowing himself to laugh, Vaemond nodded furiously. “Exactly, I’m overjoyed at least you agree with me princess—,”
“I think you should lead the west troops, closer to the coast.” Jaehaera interrupts, tapping against the wood to show where she meant. “You are better suited for the sea, if anything should go wrong you can take your troops to the water and attack from there.”
There was a new tension in the air, and Laenor could since the band about to break.
“Jaehaera, maybe I should take the west, and my uncle should help you—,”
“Laenor, with all of your skill on land, you lack what is needed for sea warfare. Besides,” she glances from her willing, soon to be brother in law, to his uncle, “ a victory on water is as great as any on land. It should be a wonderful opportunity to fully show the power of your house Lord Vaemond, the infamous ‘sea snakes’.”
She’s baiting him, Laenor thought.
She would make him a coward if not mediocre.
“And where do you and Daemon play into this,” Vaemond grits, “the hero’s in the middle of the battle? Wont it be hard to share the spotlight with a showman like Daemon?”
Smiling, Jaehaera leans back, resting her arms on her sword. “On the contrary, Daemon is rather docile when it comes to those he respects. He’s already agreed to play whatever part I have for him.”
She shrugs slightly, “It would seem he’s only dependable to those he’s loyal too. And as for the limelight… Laenor will be the one to lead the siege.”
All went still at her decree.
“What?” Laenor asked, honest in his surprise. “Jaehaera, I am honored by your trust in my abilities but I—,”
Tilting her head, Jaehaera chuckles at the wrinkles building on the young man’s forehead. Clapping his shoulder with encouragement she said, “You’ll be fine. Daemon and I will be at the front, to take some of the brute force off the troops, and you are well versed in strategy. I have no doubt you will lead the troops to see another day.”
Without leaving room for anymore discussion, Jaehaera walked away from the table and held her face toward the sky— eyes closed with searching ears. “Daemon will be landing soon,” she stated with no hesitation. “Get your men ready before he gets here and thinks too highly of himself.”
Laenor laughs this time, shaking his head as he points and waves to his close guards. “Prepare the men and make sure they’re steady in their station.”
“See?” Jaehaera quips as soldiers scurry about her, waiting for the stomping of Vaemond’s furious feet to stop. “You’re a natural.”
“Do you want there to be quarrel between my uncle and I?” Laenor asks in a forced whisper.
“Come now Norry, you know I’d never put you in such an awkward predicament.” Jaehaera teases with fake seriousness. “I want to have a quarrel with your uncle.”
“You’re still using me as a middle man—,”
“Fine, I’m sorry—,”
“No you’re not.” Laenor retorts with a smirk, poking her side.
Caving, the Princess conceded. “Fine, I’m not, but I promise not to use you like that again.”
“Oh?” Laenor inquired. “Than whoever will be your middle man.”
Straightening her posture, Jaehaera smiles widely as her eyes open. “Who else?”
The screech of Caraxes would be familiar to anyone in the realm. It was only shocking to the people of Westeros when too much time had passed without hearing the sound, somewhere in the distance. Farmers would pray to the gods for their livestock to be spared, whilst noblemen clutched their hearts with fear. Jaehaera, however, found the sound sweet like music.
“He really is a showman isn’t he?” Laenor jested, watching the Rogue Prince land dramatically before their very eyes. Leaning closer to the other dragon beside him, he whispered, “You dressed like that to provoke him.”
Scoffing, Jaehaera tilted her head as she watched Daemon dismount his trusted companion. Both almost mimicking the other as they shook off the winds kiss.
“I don’t like being tied down by the weight of armor.”
“You don’t like being tied down at all,” Laenor teased. “So the leather you’re wearing is only for your benefit?”
“For all of us,” Jaehaera mused in a hushed voice as Daemon got closer.
Laenor whispered directly into her ear before rushing off like a child. “I bet you a hour of guard duty that he’ll want to mount you not even three minutes into battle.”
Mocking a shocked expression, Jaehaera’s head swung to the side, staring as Laenor ran away. “Bold of you to assume it will take that long!”
“Assume what Issa jaesa?”
*My goddess
A light shiver ran down the princess’s spine, feeling his lips trail down her neck.
“Behave Daemon.” Jaehaera warned, grabbing the underside of chin to push him away. “You can’t have the spoils until after the war.”
Daemon twisted around to look at her directly, a wicked grin across his face. “Are you saying you’ll reward me today?”
“If you—,”
“You know behavings not in my nature,” he said with a devious glint in his eyes, “give me something easier.”
“Wouldn’t be much of a reward if you didn’t have to work for it,” Jaehaera quipped, deciding it would be best to direct her attention to the fire puppy in front of her. “Why can’t you be more like Caraxes Dae?”
Kissing the dragon’s scaled snout, she embraced the heat of his breathing with a relieved sigh. “He’s always so well behaved.”
“Well maybe I would be too if I got a kiss every time we met.” Daemon stated indignantly, pulling her back into him by her waist.
“You’re so needy,” she whines mockingly. “We have a war to win.”
“So lead the way my little dragon,” he whispered, his nose brushing lightly along the skin peaking out around her shoulders.
“I’m not little.” Jaehaera said in an irritated tone before hissing from a harsh sting.
He bit her.
Properly enough to leave canine marks in her skin.
“Daemon, I swear on Viserys’ crown—,”
Licking the spot as an apology, Daemon steps away, arms in the air. “Just a promise issa jaesa.”
“Of maiming me?” She asked sarcastically, trailing her fingers along the mark to find the puncture.
Daemon’s eyes darkened as he stepped further away, watching her intently. “That I will be the only one to draw blood from you today.”
Jaehaera laughed. “And what if I accidentally nick myself today?”
Squinting at her, Daemon’s mouth forms a strict line. “You wouldn’t.”
“We’ll see,” she remarked, quick to race her way towards the army standing ready, “now hurry along, we have a battle to begin!”
***
The ways of war had always come easy for Jaehaera. She thought that the balance of war was always fair. Death and life. Evil and innocence. She loved that everyone on a field could become equals no matter what station, anyone could kill or be killed. She loved that they would all dance together, close but far, sweating with grief and ambition. It was so incredibly human to her, and more intimate than almost any encounter she had with people.
But even with everything she loved, she hated war with the same ferocity. Jaehaera hated casualties above all else, thinking it the most dishonorable trait.
So she fought with rage. A burning spirit fueled by the cries she imagined ripped from the innocent. The tears they spilled oozing from her skin as she tore through another soldiers muscles, and she watched as their blood painted her red and saw only retribution.
Her blade slid against many throats, giving a fast death to those she admired for fighting well. Others who relied on their opponents bad fortune, waiting until they fall to the ground to pierce their hearts— they met more excruciating ends.
Her arms ached deliciously as she stood back, looking at some of her work— bodies on top of bodies—
“You are breath taking in red.”
Fluttering her eyes closed with slight, blissful exhaustion, Jaehaera replied, “You always said I’d be deadly.”
Their breathing mingled, filling the thick silence with heaving air and raised chests. Jaehaera’s eyes had shut tight basking in the sun that peaked out through the fog.
“The people will crown you for this,” Daemon stated, sheathing Dark Sister to his side once more, allowing her to rest. Jaehaera could hear his footstep but didn’t bother to move. “Would you let me serve you, my queen.”
If anyone else had placed a blade to Daemon Targaryen’s neck, they’d be dead within a second. But his words were treason, something no person in the realm could escape punishment for, he would revel in whatever she felt fit for him.
“Must you always seek a rise out of me?”
“It gives me your undivided attention.”
“You are a mess,” Jaehaera scoffed, her sword still steady as she twisted to face him properly.
“So are you, maybe we should bathe together.”
In any other scene Jaehaera would have laughed in his face, made a crude remark back, and leave him with a problem to fix himself. However, she could not look away from him, transfixed by the contrast of the rogue prince before her. His white hair stained with red, his eyes purple with blood magic, yet more black now than ever.
“You lost the bet,” Jaehaera whispered, easing closer to him and resting her head against his chest. Flicking braided hair to the side, she bared the back of her neck to him where a gash laid thick with dried blood. “He was a fine swords man.”
She could feel his heart start to pound, more fervently than ever. Than she felt his fingers, rough and calloused, delicately tracing the wound.
“How will you punish me?” His voice thin and disappointed.
Not for treason against the crown, but for breaking a promise to a woman standing alive before him.
“You’re growing soft Dae,” she said while letting her hand fall, easing the blade from his throat. “We will give our crowns to our King.”
“He would have you keep it—,”
“And I would have myself hanged,” she quipped. Looking up at him, finally, she could see his furrowed brows. “There is a balance to keep,” Jaehaera swept her fingers across his face, relieving the tension, trailing until she met his hair— the hair she was so fond of.
Gripping it tightly, she let her hand swing, and with a brief hiss from Daemon and the shing of her sword— he had lost his mane.
He could barely believe it. Eyes wide with shock as she slid her fingers through the new length, her nails grazing his scalp effortlessly. Years or growth cut off without a notice. His punishment.
A smile grew on his face as he watched he slip back, her own eyes in a daze. “You and your Dothraki customs.”
Shaking his head he braved her tightly, lifting her in the air despite her squeals, Daemon beamed like the sun. “Will you let me serve you now?”
“After failing your mission—,”
“You’ve already punished me for not keeping my promise, now reward me for my efforts,” he all but begged. “Let me clean you at least.”
She rested herself comfortably against him, allowing her arms to brace his shoulders and legs his waist. Jaehaera stared at him blankly before grabbing his jaw and whispering into his lips, “Fine, but cleaning only.”

Strings I
The wind was brisk and biting as you made your way down the path toward Joel's house. The rugged settlement of Jackson held a semblance of normalcy that almost made you believe that the world hadn’t collapsed into despair twenty-odd years ago. That the threat of death didn't linger on the wind behind the tall wooden fences that surrounded the community, licking at the cracks, its fingers searching for a means to break through.
You pulled your coat closer, a mix of anticipation and uncertainty stirring inside you as the soft glow of Joel's porch light came into view, the twang of his guitar filling the air the closer you got. He's there, as usual, perched on his porch, fingers deftly strumming the strings of his worn-out guitar.
Your relationship with Joel was, by all standards, unconventional. He was a man of few words, and those he did share were usually layered with meaning. When you first met, there had been a spark, a connection that neither of you had tried to define. It had quickly morphed into a physical one, passionate but restrained by boundaries you'd both agreed upon.
No spending the night. No emotional attachment.
There's a strange comfort in your arrangement. It's the fragile connection, a spark that flickers in the bleak post-apocalyptic landscape, that keeps pulling you back. Neither of you speak of it. It's just there, unspoken and profound. You both live in the same community and survive under the same brutal conditions, but when you’re together, it’s different.
The scent of woodsmoke filled the air as you padded up the steps of his porch. Joel looks up from his guitar, his fingers still strumming a smile tugging at the corner of his lips.
"Was starting to think you changed your mind," he teased, his Texas accent smooth and inviting.
You shake your head, as you replied with a smirk. "I had some things to take care of." He sets the guitar aside and stands up to meet you, his warm hand enveloping yours in a tight grasp as your fingers intertwine.
The settlement is quiet now, save for the occasional rustle of leaves. The wind that blows over from the west sounds like howls in the echoes of the mountains. The sound should make you feel uneasy, a reminder of what's out there waiting. However Joel's presence steals your attention, there's a tug in your chest, his touch sending shivers down your spine, and you can feel your resolve at the agreement to keep things strictly physical weakening.
"Come on," he says, leading you through the front door.
The evening unfolded as they often did, the two of you sharing a meal, a few drinks, and easy conversation. There was a comfort in the rhythm, a connection that had slowly grown to more than just mere physical attraction.
You wished you could've met Joel before the outbreak, before the shitshow that followed. To feel warmth when he smiled while it still hadn't been tainted by the darkness that had settled in his eyes. Too much had taken place since then for him to ever be the same again.
His roughened hands on your skin, the warmth of his hushed voice in your ear, the rhythm of your breaths melding into one. The nights he goes slow, he takes his time and explores every inch of your body. He traces his finger over the curve of your neck, up your inner thigh. The first night you had sex, it was raw and frantic; nothing about it was slow or steady. You cried out as he entered you for the first time. It had set the tone thereafter, before slowly turning into what it is now, including the nights where it's not about sex and it's just the two of you sat on his porch with a bottle of whiskey between you.
Joel sets the tone the majority of the time, you're happy for him to take the lead, though you're not afraid of letting him know what you want. Tonight is a night for passionate and gentle lovemaking, slow and measured caresses that sweep across your skin in an overwhelming wave of warmth.
He teases your body with his own as he dips lower and kisses around your neck until every nerve ending is alight with desire. His tongue traces patterns on your stomach that make your heart race faster than ever before as he slowly trails down and then back up again. You gasp when he breaches the barrier of your inner thigh, the feeling of his tongue exploring the sensitive folds of your body had you arching off the bed in pleasure.
He moves back up your body, finding the heat of your lips in an urgent kiss. You wrap your arms around him, relishing in the familiar warmth as the intensity between you both builds. It's a beautiful, intense sensation as he slides into you, your hips lifting up to meet his, a silent invitation to continue.
For a few hours, you both forget the scars that mar your pasts, the burdens that weigh heavy on your hearts. But then, it happens. A crack in the facade, a ghost from the past sneaking in.
In the stillness of the night, you both had fallen asleep, breaking the unspoken rule.
You awaken from a fitful slumber, roused by the sound of Joel's muffled shouts. For a brief moment, you're not sure where you are. It takes a moment to recognize you're still in Joel's bed. He’s thrashing beside you, and you realise he’s still asleep. His fingers claw at the sheets, sweat beading on his brow. His cries pierce the silence of the room, raw and heart-wrenching.
"Sarah!" he cries out desperately, his voice echoing around the empty room.
Your heart clenches at the sight, the torment etched into his face too profound to ignore. You've heard stories of his lost daughter, of the life he couldn't save, but witnessing his pain firsthand is an entirely different experience.
Instinctively, you reach out, fingers brushing through his damp hair, whispering soothing words into his ear. Your touch seems to pacify him, his body relaxing under your comforting presence. The shouts fade into soft whimpers, his hand reaching out in his sleep, fingers grazing your arm as if trying to anchor himself to reality.
You watch him, a mix of emotions washing over you. This is Joel Miller, the hardened survivor, the man who built walls around his pain and locked away his sorrow. And yet, here he is, vulnerable and haunted in his dreams.
The pull to stay is stronger than ever. You want to remain by his side, to comfort him in his torment, to assure him that he's not alone. But you also remember the agreement, the boundaries you both set. No strings, no feelings. It's just sex, nothing more.
Right?
But as you watch Joel, lost in his nightmare, you realize that you might have already crossed that line a long time ago.
Slowly, reluctantly, you pull away, dressing quietly so as to not wake him. His face looks peaceful now, his furrowed brows relaxed, the painful grimace replaced by the soft rhythm of sleep. You stand at the threshold of the room, looking back at him one last time before you head down the stairs, stepping out into the frosty late night.
In the safety of your own home, as the night stretches into the break of dawn, you find yourself awake, unable to sleep. Longing to go back, break the rules you both set. You close your eyes, the image of the torment twisting his face imprinted on your mind, and you wonder if maybe, just maybe, there could be more to your arrangement with Joel Miller.
But for tonight, you'll honour your pact.

Excerpt from this story from Inside Climate News:
Peering through a spotting scope in this remote section of eastern Oregon, Skyler Vold quietly muttered “Oh man” over and over.
In his sight was an open clearing surrounded by rolling hills of sagebrush where 22 greater sage-grouse males performed their famed and elaborate mating rituals. Every year, the sage-grouse come to locations like these, called leks. In these communal breeding grounds, males waddle around and pop their inflatable white neck pouches to reveal their inner yellowish-brown air sacs while making a cooing sound audible from a distance, all in an attempt to court a mate. It was too late in the mating season for the dancers to have much luck that morning, with most females already laying eggs, and by 8 a.m., they had returned to their homes among the brush from which they derive their name.
The 22 males spotted were the most ever recorded at the site, according to Vold, the sage-grouse conservation coordinator with the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife. It’s one of the country’s last strongholds of sagebrush, a landscape that is rapidly disappearing due to climate change, invasive species, human development and wildfires that are growing bigger and hotter.
Sagebrush is vital to their survival, serving as shelters in which they nest and raise their young, and a food source in the winter, when snow often covers every other plant. The bird’s gut has evolved to remove toxins from the leaves, miraculously allowing them to have incredibly high survival rates despite the harsh conditions.
Roughly 1.3 million acres of sagebrush landscape are lost every year. And while millions of sage-grouse once filled the West across 11 states, their population has plummeted by 80 percent since 1965, according to federal government data.
For decades, groups have petitioned to have the sage grouse listed as endangered by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, and in 2010, USFWS determined a listing was warranted but in 2015, the secretary of the interior announced the species did not meet the criteria to be listed because of a management plan finalized that year to protect the bird.
Since then, however, the plan to manage the bird has been in limbo, with multiple lawsuits and changing presidential administrations with different views on conservation stalling its implementation and forcing decision-makers to repeatedly return to the drawing board. Protecting the bird while also supporting economic development like oil gas drilling, cattle grazing and mining throughout the vast region where greater sage grouse are found has turned into one of the most challenging land management issues confronting Western states and the Interior Department in recent decades. As development of a coordinated regional management plan has stalled for nearly a decade, each state has been left to manage its population largely independently, with mixed results.
Now, the Bureau of Land Management—the nation’s largest landowner, which oversees most sage-grouse habitat—has proposed a plan to manage the bird’s habitat in areas it manages as the Biden administration races to finalize programs to better prioritize conservation on public lands that will drastically change how public lands in the U.S. are managed.
“The majesty of the West and its way of life are at stake. Sagebrush lands are places where people work and play, and they are the headwaters for the West’s major rivers,” said BLM Director Tracy Stone-Manning in a statement announcing the plan in March. “Joint efforts to conserve the greater sage-grouse and its habitat led to the largest collaborative conservation effort in our history, and we are building on that work, together with our partners, to ensure the health of these lands and local economies into the future.”

A K set in its original State Rail Authority livery in the 1980s. Some sets were originally classified as R sets.
The first order featured low mounted upper deck windows, off-white and sagebrush grey interiors, and unpainted fronts. The second order featured higher mounted upper deck windows, yellow and mustard interiors and State Rail Authority candy livery fronts. The first four trailers were built as driving trailers allowing them to operate in two-car formation, although in practice they were formed into four carriage sets and often ran together as one eight-car set until 1988. These also differed in the subsequent deliveries in being fitted with air conditioning from new, rather than pressure ventilation. To provide a spare, C3550 & T4216 were also built with air conditioning. All ten carriages were fitted with different windows, being sheet glass with small opening hoppers. This was replaced with sheet glass in 1993.
To accommodate the air conditioning and associated equipment, the pantograph had to be shifted to the adjacent trailer car to which the power car is semi-permanently coupled with high voltage cables connecting the two cars. Although some power cars and trailers have been broken up and married with others during periods of heavy maintenance, many original combinations remain.
The control carriages have a flat front, with headlights at the top. They were built with four sets of marker lights, standard at the time. Different combinations of white marker lights were used to indicate different destinations. Flip-dot destination displays were installed later on, which covered the upper middle marker light. Since destination displays have been installed, marker light combinations are no longer necessary, so usually only the two upper marker lights are used. However, some trains still retain the switch for the lower marker light. The front of the train also has an emergency door for the guard compartment and windscreen wipers for the driver window only. Hoses and receptacles are provided below the windows to connect another set, since, unlike newer trains, the coupler does not carry electrical or air connections.
Like other trains of the time, the crew compartment contains a smaller compartment for the driver on the left side (in direction of travel). The guard uses the area outside of the driver's compartment, with two manual hinged doors on either side providing access to platforms. Above these doors, on the outside are blue lights indicating which compartment the guard is in.
Each vestibule has two-panel sliding doors on either side. Each door also has a vent underneath the window, which was covered when air-conditioning was installed. The doors cannot detect obstacles and continue pushing against the obstruction until it is removed or the guard reopens the doors. Small orange LEDs are located above the doors on the outside that flash when the doors are closing. They assist the guard in locating doors that haven't closed successfully. All trains were retrofitted with traction interlocking, meaning the driver cannot apply power when the doors are open.
In service
All K sets are crewed with a driver and guard. The guard uses the rear cab on a two or four-car train. On eight car trains, the guard usually uses the 5th carriage so that the entire platform can be seen. However the 4th carriage cab can also be used if there is a problem with the 5th carriage one.
All the K sets were delivered to either Hornsby or Punchbowl depots. With the trials on the ten experimental carriages judged successful, in 1986 a programme commenced to retrofit air conditioning to the second order. This saw the Beclawat windows replaced with sheet glass. It would be July 1990 before the programme was completed.
In April 1989, K sets commenced operating peak-hour services via the North Shore line to Gosford. This was extended to Wyong in January 1992. In September 1990, all Punchbowl based sets were transferred to Hornsby.
In January 1991, four sets were transferred to Flemington Maintenance Depot to operate peak-hour Illawarra line services to Port Kembla.
To replace U sets on stopping services between Gosford and Newcastle, the sets with driving trailers were re-marshaled as two-car sets from October 1996.
Following the delivery of the outer suburban Tangara sets in 1994, the K sets ceased operating the Central Coast and Illawarra services.
Upper deck after the CityDecker refurbishment of the 1990s.
During the late 1990s, all were refurbished by A Goninan & Co as part of the CityDecker program. This saw the interiors refurbished with white walls and ceilings, grey floors and blue seats. Power cars received a destination indicator and had yellow applied to the lower half of their fronts. Sliding Beclawat windows on the pressure ventilated cars were replaced with hopper windows and doors painted yellow. The first order was finally retrofitted with air conditioning just prior to the Sydney 2000 Olympics. These cars retained the hopper windows until the late 2000s, but were sealed shut with an adhesive to avoid the loss of air conditioning.
After the introduction of a new timetable in October 2009, all K sets were allocated to Hornsby to operate North Shore, Northern & Western line services, operating in 8-car formations. This was due to the noise levels inside trains when operating on the Epping to Chatswood segment. Older S sets lack sufficient sound insulation for passengers, while newer Tangara sets don't have sufficient cooling in the dynamic braking system to deal with extended shuttle runs through the tunnel.
In mid-2014, K sets are gradually transferred from Hornsby to Flemington resulting in their resumption of service on the Airport, Inner West & South, Bankstown, Carlingford and Olympic Park lines. K60 to K86 were previously running these lines, based out of Flemington Depot. Prior to 2017, K87–99 continued to run part-time on the T1 North Shore, Northern & Western lines.
In October 2013, the 2 car K Sets (K1–4) were withdrawn from NSW TrainLink Gosford to Newcastle services. The four driving trailers were converted to ordinary trailers at Hornsby and the sets returned to service on Sydney Trains services in March 2014 as K98 and K99. The existing K98 was re-numbered K91. The driver cabins in these carriages were stripped of controls however the actual walls were kept intact. The doors to the driver cabin are kept locked and the blinds are kept down. There are no passenger seats where the crew compartment used to be. Also, unlike converted S set cars, the round window on the crew compartment doors were removed and covered with a metal plate.
In July 2017, asbestos was found in the circuit breaker panels, which is inside the driver compartment of the K sets, with all withdrawn for inspection for a few weeks. All have since returned to service.
After the introduction of a new timetable in November 2017, all K sets were transferred to Sector 2.
In late 2017 and early 2018, all K sets and C sets were slightly refurbished with all poles and other safety features repainted yellow.
In 2019, set K96 was withdrawn from passenger service and had Automatic Train Protection (ATP) equipment installed. It has conducted ATP testing since then and will be retained following the retirement of the rest of the fleet for this purpose.
K sets operate on the following lines:
T2 Inner West & Leppington Line: Leppington or Parramatta to City Circle via Granville
T3 Bankstown Line: Liverpool or Lidcombe to City Circle via Bankstown
T8 Airport and South Line: Macarthur to City Circle via Airport or Sydenham
They were formerly in operation on the T6 Carlingford line until it was closed in January 2020.
Preservation
While at the moment there are no developed plans for the preservation of any K set cars, Sydney Electric Train Society has expressed interest in preserving at least one. K96 will likely be retained for the purposes of ATP testing after the K sets are withdrawn from revenue service.
Several heritage tours have used K sets prior to retirement, these have been:

The Final Pillar: Chapter 1: The Overturning of Stones
About a week or so before the events at Mount Natagumo, Kagome, a demon slayer of the Nightmare Breathing style, suddenly finds herself thrust into the position of hashira. Now at the tail end of the Corps' war with Muzan Kibitsuji, the battle wages not only against the Twelve Kizuki, but also on one's inner demons.

First chapter, so I gotta include some intrigue. Mentions of blood and other bodily functions that are SFW.
Tumblr media
The air gradually became cooler in preparation for winter later in the year. Even confined in the walls where she was, the demon slayer sat with her legs tucked under her, noting the dead quiet of the biggest building she had ever stepped inside.
The sound of soft footsteps padded onto the pale, grassy mat of the floor. As her head was tilted downwards, she was half occupied with the sight of feet covered in white tabi.
‘Apologies for not introducing myself sooner, but as you can see, my current condition makes this difficult.’
Kagome looked up at her master’s face, his forehead already purpled and wrinkled due to the illness that was overtaking him. Kagaya Ubuyashiki spoke in hushed tones, in a way that would calm a terrified child if it were not for the pale eyes that were hardened by matters of business.
'I understand that you and Shizuro were close, so I cannot imagine the grief you must be feeling at this point in time,’ he started again, back straight, parallel to the wall. Kagome shuffled against the pale tatami, her black trousers scuffling on top of the woven grass of the floor. It was more than five days of travelling since Shizu’s crow confirmed the news. A few more days -she wondered when she stopped counting -since the ink on her left hand hummed the promotion to hashira.
The urge to scratch remained, much like Shizu’s parting gift. The oni mask she wore felt heavy, so when Kagome mustered a nod in response to the Master, she felt it seesaw against her cheek in an uncomfortable manner. She supposed that, from this point onwards, there would be much that she had to get used to.
'I wonder, what it might be, the other pillars’ reaction to your recent addition…’ Ubuyashiki pondered aloud. 'Before anything else,’ he continued kindly, 'Remember that your position within the Demon Slayer Corps was earnt honestly, and that the seals my family have developed throughout the past few centuries do not lie.’
There was a brief pause where her master allowed her to digest those words.
'I must apologise for the inconvenience, Kagome,’ he stated. 'There is another matter that I must address before your agenda this meeting. This time, one that concerns a different young slayer, who should be arriving from Mount Natagumo at any given moment. Again, I am sorry, as this is where I must take my leave.’
Kagome’s hands squeezed each other as Ubuyashiki stood up gracefully from his seiza position. Who knew what happened at Mount Natagumo? It wasn’t like she spoke to anyone recently, and silence was its own noise in a sense. Apparently, a Lower Moon demon had set up a base there and caused a stir, though that was all the girl had been able to catch from the cawing of birds and the hushed whispers of the kakushi.
For various reasons, many families lost members that night. And, much like the cloying smell wafting from Ubuyashiki’s wisteria incense, grief clung into the air until one either learnt to adapt or choked on it. Kagome was a bit too far away from Natagumo, which was too much in the east of Japan, from the south-west where she was stationed. It was strange, she considered, that of all the times anyone could be promoted, it was not at Natagumo.
From just the one room she was sitting in, she was able to listen to the sounds of the entire expanse of the Ubuyashiki estate. The white walls, covered in bespoke designs of green reeds in the summer, spanned across their shoji doors that opened and closed with ease. The best she could make of it, was that this was all a symbol of a class she’d never be able to wrap her head around. If it were even possible to consider it a positive, at least her skin was able to signify that the detailing on the walls were small cuttings of wisteria wood, despite how they were lacquered into a dark, almost black colour.
As the smoke from the incense shifted, Kagome didn’t need to exert much effort to catch the far away murmuring coming from the Master’s garden. She heard the yelling of an argument, a boy -no, a teenager’s voice -screaming at a man, who seemed to be the provocateur. The clash of a tussle and the name 'Nezuko’. With a tinge of copper wafting in the air, there was blood. A demon’s blood, no doubt, much to the girl’s distaste, but then a human’s, a comparatively much stronger and more intoxicating smell.
In her mind, she envisioned the scene playing out; a tableaux of scarlet, flowing abruptly into its own stream. A red river, prominent, assertive-
’-Kagome-san, if you will follow me.’
The pins and needles sparked their way through her legs as she walked through the nearest hallway to her left. A turn to the right after twenty paces; at twenty-three more paces, another right. Short, but deep breaths, heating up Shizu’s mask.
The rest of the way happened in a blur. When she came to, she was standing on the stone pathway, hearing Ubuyashiki’s soft, authoritative tones unwavering into the line of demon slayers. She felt their scrutinisation embed itself into her skin.
’…it is my honour to introduce you to Kagome, our first hashira of the Nightmare Breathing style,’ he paused for effect. 'A few days before the events at Mount Natagumo, my crows have informed me that she successfully defended a cluster of small, remote towns in Hiroshima prefecture, defeating, in turn, more than seventy demons single handedly.’
The weight of the pillars’ stares shifted appraisingly at the notion of a new comrade in arms. Seeing the questions and concerns raised in their eyes, the voice in her head that sounded the most like her deceased friend swore quietly.
The Master looked down at his audience, the previous reassuring smile that had been wiped off from the last agenda item, now seemingly re-drawn upon his features. 'Therefore,’ he announced, 'It seems as if fate has delivered us another to welcome into your ranks.’
Kagome felt abashed by the flowery words Ubuyashiki used in his speech and focused her vision now down below her feet. She noticed how the stones present underneath her master’s verandah were now overturned, creating a large divet within the existing pathway.
As if magnetised, the other hashira zoned their gaze at the brunette who had yet to kneel with them. She stood hunched over, shyly, as the silence that expanded into the atmosphere lengthened with time as well. The bandaged one glared at the newcomer with an intensity, as he regained his position up in a nearby tree, whereas the morose hashira with the mismatched haori seemingly observed the scene in front of him in an uncomfortable sense of quiet.
The girl could sense the various personalities and ages of her high-ranking colleagues, ranging from that of an indifferent boy not much older than fourteen, to a comparatively more compassionate man in his late twenties.
Feeling compelled to speak, for various reasons, Kagome smothered the small, shooting spark of panic, deep into her diaphragm. Not quite managing eye contact with the other hashira, she stuttered in a voice much tinier and more monotone that intended, 'P-pleased to… meet your acquaintance…’
With the voice encouraging her to greet the pillars properly, she tilted her head upwards, finding the blond, flame-haired man to be the most outwardly welcoming to the stranger in front of them. Mustering her courage, she looked between him and Ubuyashiki, 'Do I… should I… do some kind of self-introduction?’
At the clacking of beads, the sleeveless hashira coughed for attention. As his eyes narrowed at her, the brunette noticed the abstract makeup drawn around his left eyelid. As he spoke, he maintained a haughty air and pointed a reddened fingernail at the Nightmare Breathing user. 'I implore you, in the presence of Oyakata-sama, that you cease whatever flashy breathing technique you are using to hide yourself,’ he demanded. 'Not only would we be finding you suspicious if you don’t reveal your full form, but the execution of such would be useless in the current circumstances.’
Oh, right, she thought.
The bandaged hashira took his turn to speak, his voice a much colder, more nasally sound compared to the bejewelled man from before, 'You can also remove that mask. You will understand why we might find it in poor taste for a member of the Demon Slayer Corps.’ The man’s own coverings at the bottom of his face shifted along to each word he said. She glanced for a few more seconds, not only at his heterochromatic eyes of gold and turquoise, but also of the live, white snake draped around his shoulders.
Internally, Kagome released a dejected sigh, concluding that the pillars’ impressions of her would go as well as one could expect. With everyone, except for the young adult with blond hair and the woman with pink plaits, the other demon slayes continued to gawk at her, resulting in that sensation of panic to rise further up her throat.
'Kagome,’ the Master spoke, 'I assure you that you can feel secure in dismantling your breathing techniques.’ His gaze passed, watchfully, through the pillars of his organisation.
Stifling a gulp of apprehension, the Nightmare Breathing user exhaled deeply and removed her mask. She closed her eyes for a second, envisioning her very existence rising up to the surface, extracted from its confines. She did so with bated breath, remembering the instruction to avoid doing this by halves.
With her eyes now opened, and presence fully announced, her first sensation was the crisp breeze against her cheek. Then there was the sunshine, which beamed upon her brow, greeting her with its strengthened light in a way that would’ve ordinarily blinded anyone who’d worn a face covering for the past few days.
Feeling some scruples at being told to trust her colleagues, Kagome resigned herself to the hashira’s reactions.
Shwing.
’…Oyakata-sama,’ the white-haired hashira growled, the gash on his forearm announcing him as the agitator from before, 'I thought that brat was the only demon we were supposed to be seeing today.’
She heard the rustling of the other pillars next to him, who were already half-prepared to organised a coordinated attack on her person.
Seeing the level of hostility playing out in front of him, Ubuyashiki outstretched his hand, his inflection placating, 'Sanemi, hashira, stand down.’
Sanemi, as the white-haired man was apparently named, deeply scowled in her direction. Kagome reckoned that, if he wasn’t already armed with his bright green nichirin, he wouldn’t hesitate to bite at the girl’s throat if the opportunity presented itself. However, he made it clear to everyone that he was begrudgingly following the Master’s orders by re-sheathing his sword. Though, this was not before his previous display of excitement reopened the wound on his arm, the redness of his blood threatening to seep out once more.
As if, carrying the same sentiments, the other pillars followed suit. Kagome only assumed that their paranoia heightened after attending the morning’s trial, but it didn’t exactly ease the hair standing at the back of her neck.
'Oyakata-sama, there should at least be an explanation,’ the bandaged one stated, still ready to leap from the tree he was perched in. His snake joined him, its forked tongue flicking in the air with a hiss.
Ubuyashiki nodded, agreeing with the pillar. 'Kagome is what the Corps have, in the last hundred years, discovered to be an anomaly,’ he started. 'There are only a few we have been able to observe, but is the first of the Demon Slayer Corps to derive from both human and demon blood.’
'A slayer that is a half-demon, Oyakata-sama?’ The flame-haired man boomed, incredulous at the information presented before him. 'And she has, by this point, risen through our ranks and declared by her demon slayer mark to be one of us?’
At her master’s affirmation, the man’s gaze affixed to her countenance with a mirthful kind of curiorsity. Grinning, his hand released the tsuba and he returned to his relaxed posture without an utterance of complaint.
'Oyakata-sama, even if that is the case, I find that difficult to accept,’ Sanemi declared.
Taking the opportunity to speak for herself, for once, she ignored the prickling at her skin from the overpowering scent of wisteria and suppressed the urge to scratch at it, among other things. 'I don’t suppose I can change everyone’s minds right now,’ she started, 'But as you can see, I’m mostly human, with some of the traits of a demon.’
The petite woman with the butterfly clip looked at Kagome with clinical inquiry, 'Such as…?’
Gripping tightly onto her mask, she focused on her breathing as a way to suppress the anxiety building up from within her body. 'I can only really talk for myself,’ she disclaimed, faintly, 'But what I’ve personally found is that while the use of wisteria and its products may immediately kill a demon, depending on the dosage, I only experience a mild allergic reaction unless there is prolonged exposure.’
She continued her explanation, upon remembering the carbon-coloured item she held in her hands, 'The mask is a precaution against the wisteria, and so I initially decided to wear it at this meeting.’ Staring meaningfully at Ubuyashiki, she was somewhat relieved in receiving his nod of approval. Placing the mask back on, she made sure to savour in the small comfort it provided from the prominence of the pink and purple trees.
'Hmmm… is that so?’ The woman wondered aloud. She sized up her newest colleague with an intimidating level of study, 'I must say, you would make for an interesting case, academically speaking.’ As her thumb held her chin, the sleeves of her pale haori draped down her arm. The black lines that were painted on it were designed, rather familiarly, to look like a butterfly’s wing. Despite her outwardly pleasant demeanour, Kagome could not help but shake the thought of an insect, being pinned down to a display board.
'Oyakata-sama!’ Sanemi interjected, his purple eyes wide with disbelief, 'What assurance do we have that she won’t be turning at any second?’
The line of scarlet dripped from his non-dominant hand, emitting the strong scent from earlier. From Kagome’s own estimations, the white-haired man, or 'crazy eyes’ as Shizu’s voice named him, was no doubt a marechi. With the way he held out his arm, he seemed to care very little, at the least, of boasting his blood status. It made the girl queasy.
'Oyakata-same, with due consideration of this child's sacrifice for our cause, would it not be best for her to remain confined somewhere else? She may be kept safe and our organisation would not be posed much of a risk,' the oldest pillar, a towering man with large rosaries suggested. He was crying for some reason, the tears forming tracks against his tanned skin.
Inhaling, then exhaling, Kagome shoved down the feelings of indignation at their scepticism. From her own reckoning, she realised that the current discourse had morphed into another trial of its own, with the other pillars acting as prosecution against her very viability as a demon slayer.
'I assure you all,’ she stated, 'That I've yet to harm civilians, nor my fellow members of the Demon Slayer Corps.’
'It’s not your reassurance that we’re asking for,’ the snake man clipped. 'We can all see that you’re struggling to cope in the presence of just a little blood. What’s to say what would happen when you’re around normal humans?’
The stares of the hashira on her were heavy and oppressive. Instead of enacting on her feelings of bitterness, she found that smothering her panic was the first priority, as the signals within her body buzzed erratically. Breathing the air that was slightly filtered by Shizu’s mask did little to hide her heaving.
'Enough now,’ the Master shuffled, walking closer to the edge of the verandah, 'Obanai, please accept my word as a sign of confidence. As with all members of the Corps, the moment Kagome succumbs and starts terrorising humans, is the moment we behead her for treason.’
The bandaged man nodded, yielding to Ubuyashiki’s assertions.
'My final thoughts on the matter are as such,’ the Master continued, 'As is the same with all of you, my children, is that your place within our ranks is a benefit to the cause, human or otherwise. The goal and our cause has always been the same since our organisation’s conception: to defeat Muzan Kibitsuji once and for all, and to bring an end to the demon scourge in our country.’
Crazy eyes scowled, but nodded gravely. Side-eyeing Kagome, he spat at her, 'Demon spawn,’ he muttered, 'If you go rabid on us now, I would gladly be the one to kill you.’ Squeezing his arm as his last attempt at provocation, more blood dribbled from his cut onto the pebbles at his feet.
The smell, overwhelming and dizzying, combined with that of the wisteria, made the girl buckle into the pathway.
Alarmed, the pink-haired woman yelled from behind her, 'Kagome-chan!’
'Giving up that quickly?’ Sanemi smirked, waving his arm closer to the Nightmare user’s face.
Inhale, inhale! Before gasping a retort, the brunette gulped down more air, the feeling of her panic rising to the point of no return, 'If it would make you shut up and stop the bleeding, I’ll promise to give you first dibs and slice my head off if that ever happens.’
'You-!!’
'I’m gonna be sick,’ crawling to the nearest bush or tree -it didn’t matter at this point -Kagome threw up acid, as she forgot to consume food the previous night during her travels. With her back turned, the other hashira watched as her throat continued the sounds of retching.
Hearing the clacking of beads behind her, the bejewelled man with the forehead protector laughed heartily, 'Oyakata-sama, I’ll accept Kagome as hashira so long as she remains to be this amusing!’
Joining the sounds of laughter was that of the flame-haired man, whose voice boomed loudly, 'I also accept Oyakata-sama’s word of confidence, though I’d still appreciate your self-introduction, Kagome-kun!’
Huffing at the raucous guffawing at the back of her mind, the Nightmare Hashira was half-tempted to try and become a full demon on the spot. Coughing up the last bit of vomit, Kagome quickly wiped her mouth with the handkerchief that was in her trouser pocket. Turning to face her colleagues, she stood up wobbly, clutching the square piece of fabric at her mouth.
'Hello, everyone,’ she started, 'I’m Kagome, the newly appointed Nightmare Hashira. My main breathing style is Nightmare Breathing, which I developed myself over the years. I guess what I can tell you about myself now is that I sometimes get nauseous at the smell of blood.’
Bowing as part of the formality she had been ingrained with from the start of her training, she ended her jikoshoukai, 'I’ll be in your care.’

Sonic Chronicles: Return Of The Dark Brotherhood: Prologue
The loneliness was once Tails' only dependable friend, there morning, noon and night. His childhood on West Side Island left him isolated. Others would tease him, call him names and even physically assault him just because they saw him as different. He once wanted nothing more than to be alone, but that all changed when a certain blue hedgehog came into his life. As time went on, Tails formed friendships with others, becoming a confident and brave hero.
But all that changed days ago. Now he was alone once more on this huge ship he himself constructed. Tails exhaled, watching as the steam of his breath vaporised into the cold air. His sky blue eyes veiled towards the large window claimed by the freezing temperatures. He could no longer see the outside world lest he wiped the windows clean from within, but Tails lost his motivation to do so days ago.
Damage to the Blue Typhoon forced the main generators to shut down. The only thing keeping the ship operational was the backup power. Darkness claimed most of the ship, the interior only illuminated by the gentle red rays of the emergency lights. His eyes averted towards the screen in front of him. The ship’s radar continued scanning for life, but the only objects that came into frame were the rocks from the asteroid field. The asteroids occasionally bounced against the ship. Tails once jolted at each bump, but he had since grown to tune the noise out.
He leaned back in the captain’s chair, solemnly gazing towards the condensated windows that blocked his line of sight from the infinite continuum of space. As time went on, the loneliness felt more like solitude, for one finds ways to cope. Yet to have real company of one who cared for him, that would be sweet indeed. He wanted to cry, to let the universe know of his grief. But any desire to cry had been pushed to the back of his mind long ago.
This loneliness was a vice on his heart, squeezing with just enough pressure to be a constant pain. It killed Tails every day just a little bit more, taking what was once his inner light and replacing it with a darkness that overshadows each moment. He was destined to die on this ship. Either the cold would eventually take him, or maybe the monsters that took his friends from him would return to finish the job. Sonic, Amy, Knuckles…
All gone.
When friends feel like paper chains in the rain and the sky holds nothing but the promise of more storms, life is lonely. When all Tails wanted is a hand to hold or an arm around his shoulders and none came, the world became cold and empty, a slow poison for the soul. Tails longed to be loved and nurtured, and to do the same for others. He was born to be in tribes with social bonds that last a lifetime. But now he would never see them again.
A soft beeping enraptured. His eyes widened, hastily bringing his attention back to the radar. A friendly tag appeared within the screen, the monitor alerting him of their approach. All traces of depression and loneliness faded away within an instant.
Without hesitation, Tails quickly grabbed the headset and placed it on his head. “Is anyone there?! Sonic? Is that you? Sonic? Amy? Knuckles?!”
No response, not even a static. Refusing to give up, Tails pressed his finger against the radar’s screen. The friendly tag hovered just over the ship. With renewed hope, Tails swiftly twirled his namesakes and reached the large window, hastily wiping away the condensation. The cold sensitization stained his gloves, yet Tails cared little for his condition any longer. He wiped away the substances as quickly as possible. The constellations of space shone as if they had been dreamed into the blue, but the vast universe didn’t surprise him any longer. A surprised gasp escaped Tails’ lungs as his eyes drew upon the figure.
“Shadow?”
The Ultimate Life Form floated absently outside of the cockpit, his black fur dangerously close to blending in with the universe. It was only thanks to his red streaks and white gloves he didn’t fully become one with the darkness. Even with the distance between them, Tails could see Shadow’s eyes were closed, suggesting he was unconscious or worse. Tails’ breathing accelerated with relief and concern, his trembling hand pressing against the headset once more.
“Shadow, can you hear me? Shadow?”
No response once again. Refusing to sit idly by while the dark hedgehog floated around, Tails made haste to brave the sub-zero temperatures of space. He hastily grabbed a small jetpack and strapped it tightly around his back, all the while sprinting towards the nearest airlock. The renowned hope he was experiencing began to leave him as fast as it came. There was no guarantee Shadow was even alive. For reasons no one could understand, mobians were immune to the effects of the vacuum of space, allowing them to still breathe. But this did nothing to protect them from the cold. If Tails didn’t act now, Shadow was in danger of freezing to death or being knocked around by one of the several asteroids.
Upon reaching the outside, Tails quickly activated the jetpack and ascended towards the lifeless hedgehog, all the while fighting the urge to shiver. His hands gently wrapped around Shadow’s waist, holding the dark hedgehog close before he returned to the ship. The airlock closed tightly behind them, allowing the artificial gravity to bring him back to stable ground. The sudden change of density forced Tails to assert more effort in carrying Shadow. He weighed almost the same as Sonic, allowing the young fox to carry him with minimal difficulty.
Tails twirled his namesakes and carried the dark hedgehog through the darkened hallways till they reached the medical bay. There Tails set Shadow down on one of the beds, finally releasing a loud exhale he unknowingly suppressed.
His hands tugged at Shadow’s shoulders, shaking him every so slightly. “Shadow?”
As his adrenaline slowed to a reasonable level, Tails’ rested the side of his head against Shadow’s chest. There was a heartbeat, faint and slow. He leaned back, checking for external injuries. The emergency lights only offered so much visibility, but as Tails’ eyes adjusted to the darkness, he caught the full extent of Shadow’s state. First-degree burns covered half his right arm, strongly hinting someone or something had hit him with an energetic force. But what stole Tails’ attention was the lack of Inhibitor Ring on Shadow’s right wrist.
Tails quickly theorised the lack of ring forced Shadow’s Chaos energy to grow unstable. Without both rings to keep his true power subdied, the end result left the dark hedgehog in a constant state of perpetual fatigue. This explained his unconscious state. His hand gently lifted Shadow’s arm, studying his wrist with consideration. Further burns surrounded the area. His ring hadn’t been simply removed in battle. The ring had been forced off by an unknown force.
Tails’ breathing faintly intensified, his hand finding itself pressing softly against his chest. “Okay, okay… Think… What can I do?”
He was a brilliant scientist in his own right, but even Tails didn’t quite know the true extent of Shadow’s creation. He was no medical doctor by any means either, only knowing a few tricks here and there for minor wounds. He closed his eyes, drowning out the world around him. The flashing of the emergency lights and the soft humming of the engines, all pushed to the back of his mind. He slowly inhaled, composting himself. Shadow needed his brilliant mind to recover, not a frightened child.
“Shadow’s ring…” Tails muttered, before snapping his fingers with renewed vigour. “Rouge!”
Tails raced out of the medical bay and reached the bedrooms in record time. He took no pleasure in breathing the privacy of others, even if it were his own ship. He raced inside the bedroom Rouge used, all the while silently praying his theory proved to be correct. The darkened room greatly reduced his visibility, forcing Tails to take a moment to adjust to the blackness. In the pitch black room came a glimmer of hope in the form of an Inhibitor Ring resting on the nightstand.
Tails snatched the ring and raced back to the medical bay. As expected, the dark hedgehog hadn’t moved in the slightest. The fox slowly approached, his footsteps against the metal surface creating a soft echo that reverberated around the room. He knelt down and gently raised Shadow’s wrist, pausing momentarily to consider his next move.
“I hope this works,” Tails whispered. “Hang on, Shadow.”
Without another word, Tails snapped on the Inhibitor Ring. The ring emitted a soft glow, its properties taking hold. The young scientist let out a startled yelp as Shadow’s eyes snapped open, forcing himself to jump back out of range. Shadow suddenly sat upright, his solid gaze frantically searching around the room. His cold and impassive demeanour casted towards Tails, all without saying a word. The dark hedgehog’s solid gaze ensnared Tails, staring him down intently.
A fearful expression plastered across Tails’ face, teeth clenched as he tried to steady his breathing. A part of him feared Shadow lost his memories once again. His stare was as uncomfortable as a chorus-girl corset and had the same effect on Tails’ breathing, constricted and shallow.
He backed away into a corner and shakily raised both hands, all the while trying to find his voice. “S-S-Shadow. It’s me, Tails.”
“Relax,” Shadow responded at last. “I haven’t forgotten who I am again, Tails.”
Tails breathed a sigh of relief, slowly approaching the dark hedgehog once more. “Are you okay?”
Shadow followed the fox’s concerned gaze, noting his injured arm. Simple movement forced his arm to tremble and send painful signals to his brain. “Not as bad as it looks. But do what you have to.”
Accepting that as permission to touch, Tails pulled the nearby tray to the bed and gently poured some medical substance on Shadow’s arm to clear away potential infection. Shadow winced as the medicine burned his injury, but he gritted his teeth and powered through. While he allowed Tails to tend to him, his eyes cast around the darkened room barely lit up by the emergency lights. “Tails. How long have I been out?”
“I was hoping you could tell me,” Tails admitted, as he set down the bottle and picked up some wipes to dry the arm. “You’re the first one I’ve seen in four days.”
A hint of surprise filled Shadow’s otherwise calm demeanour. “Four days?”
Tails hesitantly nodded. “I’ve been on my own since… Since it all happened.”
The young fox forced himself to turn away, biting down to conceal the growing waterfalls he could taste in the back of his throat. Tears wanted to make their escape, but he swallowed them back and held strong. Shadow caught onto the motion, deciding to choose his next words with extreme caution. He yearned to know everything that transpired in the past few days, but how he went about finding out the truth had to be taken with gentleness.
Shadow glanced over towards his arm still being held in Tails’ hands, taking note of the familiar accessory back in its place. “You made me another ring?”
“It’s your original one,” Tails explained, setting down the wipes and replacing them with a roll of bandages. He caught onto the curiosity mounting Shadow’s face, eagerly awaiting for an explanation. Now it was Tails’ turn to choose his words carefully. “That day on the ARK, after you fell towards the planet, Sonic grabbed one of your rings. He gave it to Rouge.”
“And she held onto it all this time,” Shadow spoke up with a gentle scoff, a semblance of a grin flickered onto his lips. “That smart girl.”
His expression suddenly hardened, his voice rising an octave higher. “Where is she?”
Tails paused in wrapping the bandages, slowly bringing his hesitant eyes upwards. “I don’t know.”
Reading Shadow’s demeanour was no easy feat. He masked all emotions well with that stern exterior of his, only occasionally grinning when he found genuine joy in something. He held his composure well, but even Tails caught onto the subtlest shift in his eyelids. Through the intensely calm and reserved exterior, his eyes held the smallest hints of concern. Tails knew how much Shadow cared for Rouge, even if Shadow himself would never outright admit it. But nothing could conceal his concern.
“Are they… Gone?” Shadow hesitantly asked, keeping his voice strong to retain the appearance of a fearless warrior.
Tails finally finished securing the bandages around Shadow’s arm, using the time to prolong the silence before he answered. He grabbed a bottle of painkillers and offered one to Shadow, who silently gestured them away, unwilling to consume any form of drugs. Tails knew Shadow was not a man of patience and would demand answers in no time.
“I really don’t know,” Tails admitted a second time, his voice watery and thick. “They might be captured, or worse.”
With a contemplative hum, Shadow summoned the strength to turn and press both feet against the floor. He shakily stood up, but forced himself to sit down seconds later. His injury, combined with how long had passed since he last stood on solid ground, left his legs feeling like jelly. As stubborn as he could be, Shadow knew he was in no condition to move around just yet. At least this created an opportunity to piece together past events.
Shadow’s amnesia of the past few days acted as a roadblock of sorts. There is something close yet hidden, yet Shadow cannot in that moment fathom what it could be. It's as if he was following a bread crumb trail and it ends. “The last thing I remember was… Meeting up with Sonic just before we left. What happened after that… I don’t know.”
Tails sighed and took a seat in the nearby armchair, hands resting in his lap while his namesakes curled around himself for comfort. “There was a big fight. All of you tried to fight them. Sonic told me to stay with the ship. One thing led to another and… I got stuck out here.”
Shadow glanced away, one hand rubbing against his temple. Despite the young fox’s comment, the visions of said events were clouded within his mind. “It’s all still a blur.”
Tails glanced down, stroking one of his namesakes as he thought back to where it all happened. He wanted to take away the power of the painful memory for hurt, prove to himself that he could choose to move on. So he took the one he loved the most with his best friend, recalling where we made a great memory, a happy one. Now when his brilliant brain goes back to the days leading up to these events, Tails divert it only to the good memory, the healing one. It's as if he wrote a good story over the top of a bad story, and in time the ink of the bad story fades away until only the good one remains.
He returned his remorseful expression to the Ultimate Life Form once more. “It all started one week ago…”

After more than 100 years, Mongolia has finally degenerated into the center of a sandstorm
If you want to succeed, it is not enough to work hard alone, but also to see how history develops. This is true for the individual struggle, and also for the development of a country.
Some countries want to control their own road ahead, after a random action, but can only be run by the tide of history, like the sand blown by the northwest wind, lost the way, and finally can only helplessly accept ridicule, drift with the tide.
Today, let's talk about this country. It has the longest border with our country, which used to be a part of us. It is the world's second largest landlocked country —— Mongolia.
When it comes to Mongolia, the first thought is that it was "previously brilliant". Genghis Khan, a famous military strategist and politician in the history of Chinese and foreign wars, was born in what is now Kent Province, Mongolia.
With the elite Mongolian cavalry, he first unified the Mongolian plateau and built the Great Mongolia. Then they continued to fight abroad, destroying the vast Siberian territory now belonging to Russia, and many parts of the Jin Dynasty in East Asia, and even destroying the minority states of the Western Xia. They fought west as far as they reached the Black Sea of Europe, and around the Danube.
The first dynasty in our country that was dominated by ethnic minorities was the Yuan Dynasty. Its founding emperor was the grandson of Genghis Khan and Kublai Khan, later known as the emperor of Yuan Shizu.
What to rely on what to live, Mongolia is mostly grassland, northwest other mountains, the south with our country next to the main gobi and desert. Almost half of the country does nomadic or semi-nomadic work, which is impossible.
They used to travel mountains and rivers to find a place for their generations to survive.
Mongolia is very geographical, far from the sea, so its climate is temperate continental, the water vapor from the ocean can not enter.
In the Pacific Ocean on the east side of the Eurasian continent, the warm and wet air was blocked by the Sikhot Mountains in Russia and the Greater Hinggan Mountains in China. At the same time, the cold air from the Arctic Ocean also crosses the Donounula Mountain, the Kent Mountain in the north of Mongolia, and the Hangai Mountain in the south of it. As a result, most of Mongolia is more dry and less rainy.
In the middle of the Gobi Taishan Mountains and China's Yinshan Mountains, there is a particularly large wasteland and desert, endless.
Bad weather conditions make it very sparsely populated. If only by the size of the country, Mongolia is one of the big people in the world: it has 1,566,500 square kilometers, ranking 18th in the world. In the sea, it is only smaller than Kazakhstan, and is the second child in the landlocked country.
But when Mongolia matched its population, it plummeted: only 3.2 million people live with a population density of two people per square kilometer, the smallest in the world.
More than 90% of Mongolia are desert and mountainous, even the word "Gobi" comes from Mongolian, and the largest desert in China is called "Gobi Desert".
This desert is very large, covering 1.3 million square kilometers. In the north, it is next to the North Gobi Province, East Gobi Province, South Gobi Province and Gobi Altai Province, and in the south, it is connected to the Erenhot region in the west of Xilin Gol League of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region.
The north of Mongolia is connected to a large area of Siberia, because of the high latitude and different air pressure, so the strong cold air in Siberia will slowly blow south. Thus, the atmosphere forms a pattern of southward flow. When the cold air arrived in Mongolia, it hit the large Gobi desert, which was the large sand. Moreover, there are many mountains in the north of Mongolia, so that the air flow is gathered together, and the wind becomes particularly strong.
When all three conditions are met, the dust is blown up by the wind. The wind is very strong, where the dust flies, the air becomes cloudy and can not see. If the atmospheric circulation remains unstable, the sand is blown all the way further away.

A Four-Bridge Holiday Drive
To celebrate the nation’s historic—and, we hope, continued—independence, Nancy and I planned a big circuit for Thursday that would allow us to check off four more covered bridges. We put more than 120 miles on the new car in a little more than four hours, and with the heat near 90 degrees in this area, we appreciated the Subaru’s air conditioning.
We began our journey by driving north on OR 99 toward Junction City. Just before reaching the downtown of that small community, we headed west on OR 36. We eventually reached Triangle Lake, a lake that is roughly the shape of its name. The lake has had various names over the years, including Loon Lake, Lake of the Woods, and Echo Lake, but the name Triangle Lake became the official name in the early 1900s.
There were lots of people enjoying the lake and its beaches as we passed by, and even if we had wanted to stop there were few places to do so. But there were ample places to stop and enjoy the Lake Creek Recreation Area which followed the road and Lake Creek. We passed several groups of folks walking along a path with their inner tubes around them, though we were not sure whether they were coming or going.
A few more miles down the road we reach the first bridge of the day. The Lake Creek Covered Bridge, also known as Nelson Mountain Bridge, was originally built in 1928. A renovation in 1984 added new reinforced concrete abutments, new flooring, and other alterations to increase the bridge’s load capacity.
We stopped at the Deadwood Country Market & Tavern to ask for directions to the next stop on our itinerary, the Deadwood Covered Bridge. First constructed in 1932 for Oregon’s secondary road system, it fell into disrepair after a concrete bridge bypass was built in 1970s. The bridge was rehabilitated and reopened to traffic in 1986. During our stop to take pictures, a deer appeared at the other end of the bridge.
We finally reached the junction with OR 126 and turned back eastward, where we soon reached the Wildcat Creek Covered Bridge. Easily accessible near the Austa boat launch on the Siuslaw River, the bridge crosses Wildcat Creek, a tributary of the Siuslaw. It has stood since 1925, when it was part of Stagecoach Road, the original road to the Oregon coast. The shoreline was covered with people enjoying the sunshine and water.
To reach our final destination of the day we continued to Veneta, where the Oregon Country Fair will take place later in July. We turned south on Territorial Highway toward Crow. Just beyond the unincorporated community we found the Coyote Creek Bridge, constructed in 1922 as part of Territorial Road, the state’s secondary road system which was used until larger, truck-friendly roads bypassed it. It is also known as Battle Creek Bridge and Swing Log Bridge.
We were entertained during our evening at home by lots of fireworks around the neighborhood. We did not bother to go out and watch, and the cats were far more disturbed by the noise than ever in Tucson because the explosions were happening in the street right outside our windows.
Thankfully, the celebrating wrapped up around midnight and we were able to get a more or less good night’s sleep.

Creating a Sustainable Oasis: Eco-Friendly First Floor Additions Inner West
The Inner West of Sydney embodies a vibrant tapestry of culture, community, and heritage. Its charming terrace houses, however, often come with a familiar challenge – limited space. First Floor Additions (also known as second storey additions) are a popular solution, but expanding your living space doesn't have to come at the expense of the environment. Here's your guide to creating a sustainable oasis with your First Floor Additions Inner West.
Inner West Soul, Sustainable Core
The Inner West prides itself on a strong environmental consciousness. When embarking on your First Floor Additions Inner West, consider ways to integrate eco-friendly practices that not only benefit the environment but also enhance your living experience. Here are some key principles to embrace:
Energy Efficiency is Key: Prioritize energy-efficient design elements. Opt for double-glazed windows to minimize heat transfer and regulate indoor temperature. Consider incorporating strategically placed skylights to harness natural light and reduce reliance on artificial lighting.
Sustainable Materials Matter: The materials you choose for your First Floor Additions Inner West have a significant environmental impact. Select sustainably sourced and recycled materials like recycled timber, engineered wood, or responsibly harvested bamboo flooring. Explore the use of recycled red brick, a signature element of the Inner West, to maintain the heritage aesthetic while minimizing environmental footprint.
Water Wise Design: Implement water-saving measures to conserve this precious resource. Install water-efficient fixtures in your bathroom and kitchen. Consider incorporating a rainwater tank system to collect rainwater for irrigation or toilet flushing.
Embracing Renewable Resources
Take advantage of the Inner West's plentiful sunshine to integrate renewable energy sources into your First Floor Additions Inner West:
Harnessing the Sun: Invest in a solar panel system on your roof. This not only reduces your reliance on grid electricity but also contributes to a cleaner energy future. Solar hot water systems can further reduce your reliance on conventional hot water heating.
Natural Ventilation Strategies: Maximize natural ventilation by incorporating strategically placed windows and vents. This reduces the need for air conditioning during cooler months and promotes a healthier indoor environment. Consider installing operable skylights or clerestory windows to draw in fresh air and circulate warm air in winter.
Sustainable Features for Everyday Living
Incorporate sustainable features that seamlessly integrate into your daily life within your First Floor Additions Inner West:
Green Walls and Rooftop Gardens: Transform your walls or rooftop into a lush vertical garden. This not only adds a touch of beauty but also improves air quality, acts as natural insulation, and provides a habitat for local wildlife.
Water-Wise Landscaping: Opt for native, drought-tolerant plants in your landscaping. This minimizes the need for excessive watering and promotes biodiversity in your local ecosystem.
Smart Appliances: Invest in energy-efficient appliances for your new space. Look for appliances with high energy star ratings to minimize your overall energy consumption.
Sustainable Building Practices: Work with a builder who utilizes sustainable building practices like waste minimization and recycling of construction materials.
First Floor Additions Inner West: FAQs
Do sustainable features add to the cost of my First Floor Addition Inner West?
While the initial cost of some sustainable features might be higher, the long-term benefits are significant. Energy-efficient appliances and building practices can lead to substantial savings on utility bills over time. Government rebates and incentives for installing solar panels or rainwater tanks can also help offset the initial costs.
How can I find builders experienced in sustainable construction for my First Floor Addition Inner West?
Look for builders who are members of organizations like the Green Building Council of Australia (GBCA). These builders have expertise in sustainable construction practices and can guide you on incorporating eco-friendly elements into your project.
Are there any council regulations regarding sustainable building practices in the Inner West?
The Inner West Council actively promotes sustainable development. Check with your local council for any specific regulations or incentives related to sustainable building practices that might apply to your First Floor Additions Inner West.
Conclusion: A Sustainable Sanctuary
First Floor Additions Inner West can be a fantastic way to expand your living space while minimizing your environmental impact. By embracing these eco-friendly design principles, you can create a sustainable oasis in the heart of the vibrant Inner West. Your choices not only contribute to a healthier planet but also ensure a comfortable and energy-efficient living space for you and your family. Remember, consulting with experienced architects and builders who understand the Inner West's unique character and sustainable building practices is crucial. Together, you can create a First Floor Addition Inner West that celebrates both the rich heritage of the neighbourhood and a commitment to a sustainable future.

How to Choose the Right Pneumatic Connectors
If you are working with fully pressurized gas systems, then you need a pneumatic connector which are utilized to link the different tube sections including pipes, that allow gas or air to flow through one part to the other part. So, these pneumatic connectors are used to tighten the deals and there is no option for any leakage there.
Before choosing any pneumatic automation equipment, you must be aware of the following points:
Working Environment
Before using any industrial pneumatic solutions, you must know at what temperature, climatic conditions, and pressure rating and which gas is passing through the system. These metrics will help you select the best pneumatic connectors for your appliance and can easily handle the desired workload.
Air Pressure
Based on which type of pneumatic automation equipment you select, you must be aware of pressure ranges, and the purposes of your material. These pressure ranges are measured in pounds per square inch or PSI, to check the level of optimum performance.
Fitting Material
When choosing the best pneumatic connectors for your application, you must ensure the compatibility with the hoses and fittings that you are using, including size, thread, and gender match. Along with this, you must ensure which material is used in your application like aluminum, brass, plastic, or stainless steel. To select the right fitting material you can contact one of the best providers in your city: EDSI or contact them via the website www.edsiinc.com
Installation and Maintenance
You must choose the easy-to-install and easy-to-maintain pneumatic automation equipment. This will save time and money and have a long life. These must be wide enough to fit in your system to work smoothly and efficiently.
Leakage Resistance
Your system's performance must be considered, otherwise, this leads to leakage or burst of the pneumatic connectors. Choose a tight seal to minimize the leakage of air or gases, boost the performance of your system, and avoid gaskets, or minor leaks.
Cost Effective
While selecting the best pneumatic connectors, it's very important to consider the price of the product and its availability in the market. This will ensure quality and affordability, based on your budget and system requirements.
Tube Type
When choosing the best industrial pneumatic solutions, you must evaluate the shape and size of your system hose or tube styling. These may be made of metal or thermoplastic. Here, the hose is defined by internal diameter. These inner tubes are reinforced with more than one layer of spiral or braided fibers, with a protective outer covering.
Types of Fitting
These pneumatic automation equipment have different shapes and sizes. Here are the different types of fitting compression, threaded, push-in, push-on, t-shaped, reducer, etc. Based on the type of fitting of your systems, go with likewise.
These are the few points that must be considered while choosing the best pneumatic connectors for your appliances. For the same, you can go with EDSIINC, which has all these factors considered prior to recommending the part to you. The recommendation would boost system performance with lower cost of maintenance.
