lights my cigarette. i'd actually argue that the treatment of fighters in general as objects to be owned could easily be taken as an extension of loveless's running commentary on how children are treated by society as property. even though a lot of the sacrifice-fighter pairs we see are same-age, it's about the idea of a relationship where one person has complete unlimited power over the other; where refusal of that person is taboo at best and impossible at worst; that is a fixture in (that part of) society, and operating outside of or distorting that relationship is incredibly taboo.

this is one of the things that makes ritsuka and soubi's dynamic so interesting. they're two people who have been treated for their entire lives as subhuman: ritsuka as a child (who has been unpersoned multiple times over by his parents) and soubi as the "ultimate" fighter (who repeatedly asserts his need to be treated as an object; whose sexual abuse as a child warranted disgust and exasperation with the perpetrator, but not disengagement from; etc). two very different relationships with their own (un)personhood. how yun kouga referred to soubi as "an adult in body only." god.

This might be a long shot, but I remember there being a post about the Loveless Guide talking about when soubi lost his ears. The guide was a piece of merch(?)/doujin that yun put out quite a few years ago and I believe only did 1 run of. The page for Soubi gave an exact age for losing his ears and described the event as "a violent/unpleasant encounter" (something along that verbiage). The only other piece of info i have from that book is this page of shikiko, and I know there was a post regarding Soubi's info but I believe due to the nature of it, it was caught in one of the nsfw purges and since I wasn't the original poster, I can't find it.

Does anyone happen to remember this post/info? I'm mostly looking for Soubi's age since I can't remember how young the guide said he was, but I do remember it being under 12?

a few days ago i thought that soubi has no male friends but kyo. he has a lot of female friends or he goes on well with grade schoolers but he has never had friends of his age. probably it caused by his past with ritsu and now he only chooses people that can't hurt him. also kyo who was raised by a matriarchal family seems to soubi as a safe person.
