These are my two cents which nobody asked for on SPN's latest debacle
I have seen lot of people saying it won't even get picked or will see the same fate as Wayward.
I think that won't be the case and here is the case. Supernatural is the brand which has been with CW right from the straight. At one point when there were no good shows on CW they survived on the back of Supernatural. Now most networks don't let go of their bread winning shows easily, most of them fizzle way or last so long that it becomes dead weight with frequent revamps like Grey Anatomy or Days of Our lives.
Now Jared was quite clear in the way he wanted the show to end and it was to end it when it ran its course. The show ran its course after S13 but still some how they managed to get the actors on board. It is also why Jared and Jensen took so long to sign the contract even when network was ready to pick it up.
Looking at the current scenario it seems like Jared put his leg down not extending the contract and ending the show after S15. He made sure there is no wiggle room by announcing his next project before the show end. Also he was clear on the way he wanted the show to end which is a clear cut, no coming back and no open ending. Jensen was lobbying for open ending but not Jared. So, finally the show ends with definitive finale.
Why go with Jared???? coz like it or not, he is the lead of the show. No Sam = No Supernatural...So the show ends. But while they decided to end the show, they made side deal with Jensen and his new venture. It is also why they were heavily pimping Jensen as Dean in last season...from unnecessary dance sequence to promoting his albums and his beer.
But, WB the parent company is known for retaining their talent and Jared has been part of WB for decades. So, they won't let him go to another network. Hence the bidding war for Walker.
Back to SPN., now since Jared is out of picture and slate being swiped clean, they saw an opportunity to revive the dead dog. So SPN is back as a done to death but globally appealing trope of romance. Now what Jensen and CW didn't understand is the appeal of romantic story. The biggest appeal for such stories is the end game. Will the be together or part ways? entire relationship of Ross & Rachel in Friends was on that trope and it kept audience hooked for 10 seasons. Over here in SPN, fans already know the endgame of John and Mary.
Fine, the second less explored thing in romance is - the journey. We know the protagonist got married but we don't know how? Sadly in Supernatural we even know that. so technically there is no strong story to explore.
But, despite of it being dead meat CW will pick the show atleast for a season or two. They will rely on Jensen and his fans to bring in the views. they will bring other SPN stars coz that will mean their fans will check it out. Some will watch coz they like it, some will do it coz they hate it and want to furtger hate on it (something that AAs and hellers do with Walker.) the show will end when it frizzles. Dont be surprise if you see cameo guy in the future..
