Something I like about them:

I do love a character with identity issues and JFJ has plenty of that going on. Also the commitment to high fashion while dying in the arctic is commendable.

Something I don't like about them:

Racist dinner-table anecdotes. 

Favourite line:

'WE HAVE LOST SIR JOHN!!' (And 'Are we brothers, Francis?' of course.)

BroTP:

JFJ and Goodsir. The real Fitzjames wrote so many nice things about Goodsir that I wish they interacted more in the show. He'd just be listening to Goodsir infodump about sea creatures like 'Fascinating! I must put this in my journals!'

OTP:

Fitzier. I love their dynamic and how creative the fandom is with it. They're divorced they're enemies they're coworkers they're husbands they're rivals they're old men they're lesbians they're t4t they're kiki and bouba coded and I'm here for it.

NoTP: 

Anything other than Fitzier really.

Random headcanon:

It's a while since I've made many hcs for the Terror so I'll make one up now I guess: Modern day AU JFJ has an armfish tattoo on her ankle. Stick and poke. Dundy did it one time while they were drunk at uni.

Unpopular opinion:

In a rescue AU, I sort of don't see Fitzier getting together romantically (beyond realising they're attracted to each other) until they're recovering after the expedition. It's not a hill I'll die on but just something I've thought about.

Song I associate with them:

Old College Try by the Mountain Goats and Francesca by Hozier are Fitzier songs to me.

Favourite picture of them:

I'm just gonna pick favourite scenes/moments for this question instead since I don't have many saved screenshots. For JFJ it's either the dress scene or the firing an explosive at a charging demon bear. Something something the duality of Ms Fitzjames.

Me: GenX goth girl who picked up her first issue of Sandman back in 1989 and has read the series through more times than she can count.

My spouse: has never read the comics and has only the vaguest idea of what it's about.

We're three episodes into the Netflix series and I am telling you, I have not had this much fun with reader vs. never-read since the first season of Game of Thrones.

Despite months of upheaval and being dubbed a "vile deviant" for writing kissy fanfic, I did it: my fic for this year's @theterrorbigbang, Something Rich and Strange.

Harry Goodsir's life, imagined as a garden of forking paths. It's 1848 and he is dying in a tent on King William Island. It's 1849 and he is having yet another tiresome argument with the administration of Surgeons' Hall over funding for the museum while he waits for his friend Edward Forbes to return from the Arctic. It's 1854 and he's serving in the Crimea with James Fitzjames. It's 1861 and he is collecting butterflies under the watchful eyes of asylum orderlies. It's 1870 and he is walking on the beach near Fife with his children. It's 1886 and Silna holds his hand as he breathes his last. All of these things are true.
