Link to full size tree since this one’s itty bitty.
Under the cut are a bunch of mini bios for various people. I did not get every single person, but rather the ones of significance. (Aka the ones I have actual ideas for beyond “and then they married and had a baby”).
I’m not considering most of these as side muses -- currently only Nora and Dunstan are -- but if someone strikes your fancy for a plot, let me know and what the hell? Maybe I’ll be interested.
Oleander “Olly” Linwood Samuel
Bishop’s great-grandfather. Born in 1904, attended Hogwarts from 1915 to 1922. A Ravenclaw who played on the Quidditch team. After leaving Hogwarts, he became a magizoologist. He married school sweetheart Adeline Schofield and together they had three children: Rosemary, Maximilian, and Lind. He was a well-loved member of the family and quite popular with everyone he met. He tragically died in 1972 from a freak accident involving a hippogriff.
Adeline outlived Olly by many years, eventually being killed by Death Eaters alongside her daughter Rosemary and her family.
Rosemary Lark Samuel Silverthorn
Bishop’s great-aunt. Born in 1928 to Olly and Adeline, the oldest of three siblings. She attended Hogwarts from 1940 to 1947, and was a Hufflepuff. She was known to be quite organized and reliable, and was a prefect. After leaving Hogwarts, she married Ira Silverthorn and chose not to work, instead raising her children at home.
She and Ira had two sons, Emmett and Coriander, who both attended Hogwarts in the 60s. Coriander married his love Annabell shortly after leaving school, and they had a son together, Darius. Sadly the entire family was killed in 1977, along with Adeline. Rosemary and Ira were in their 40s, Emmett and Coriander in their 20s, and Darius still a toddler.
Lind Maddox Samuel
Bishop’s great-uncle. Born in 1932 to Olly and Adeline, the youngest of three siblings. He attended Hogwarts from 1941 to 1948, and was a Ravenclaw. From a young age he knew that he wanted to be an auror, and began training as soon as he left Hogwarts. He was also the first openly gay auror, marrying the love of his life David Croft. The pair adopted one child, a baby girl named Adelle.
Adelle grew up and married a man named Liam Reynards, and together they had one daughter, Cornelia. The war eventually reached them, however, and Lind, David, Adelle, and Liam all perished. Cornelia, however, survived.
Cornelia Gale Reynards
Bishop’s second cousin. One of the few survivors of the Samuel family, though she does not bear the Samuel name. She survived a Death Eater attack as an infant when her father and grandfather worked together to place a powerful silencing and concealing charm on her cradle. When the rest of her family perished, she remained undetected until aurors arrived a few hours later.
She was raised in safety elsewhere, and grew up happy and healthy. She attended Hogwarts in the 90s. After this, inspired by the tale of her father and grandfather, she followed in their footsteps to become an auror. Like her grandfather before her, she is also an openly gay, living with her partner, Susanna Clove. They have one son together, Lind Reynards, who attends Hogwarts around the same time as Bishop’s daughter, Nora. He is a Gryffindor.
Maximilian Amos Samuel
Bishop’s grandfather. Born in 1929 to Olly and Adeline, the middle of three siblings. He attended Hogwarts from 1941 to 1948, where he was sorted into Ravenclaw. After leaving school, he married Agnes Liddell, and they had five children together: Oleander, Aria, Ezekiel, Dunstan, and Yvette. Max become a curse breaker, and often worked alongside his baby brother, Lind. He was also quite protective of Lind and was known for hexing anyone who mocked him for being gay.
Tragically, in 1974, Max mysteriously went missing. His body was found in an empty warehouse over a week later. The murder was strongly suspected to be a Death Eater attack, but no concrete evidence was ever found.
Oleander “Andy” Linwood Samuel II
Bishop’s uncle. Born in 1950 to Max and Agnes, the oldest of five siblings. He chose to go by Andy rather than Olly like his grandfather, in order to better tell them apart. He attended Hogwarts from 1962 to 1969, where he was sorted into Hufflepuff. He really was the epitome of Hufflepuff, known for being a very relaxed, easy-going, and gentle man. He found a job at the owl post office in Hogsmeade after leaving Hogwarts, and married childhood friend Bonnie Hawthorne. They had three daughter together: twins Fay and Lila, and later Olive.
As the war began in earnest and Death Eaters turned on the Samuel family, Andy took his wife and daughters into hiding. It was all in vain, however, as they were discovered and killed in 1977. Andy and Bonnie were only in their 20s, and their daughters were all under age 5.
Aria Rosemary Samuel Starling
Bishop’s aunt. Born in 1951 to Max and Agnes, the second of five siblings. She attended Hogwarts from 1962 to 1969, the exact same years as her older brother, and was sorted into Gryffindor. After leaving Hogwarts she began to pursue a career in journalism. She married fellow writer Hollis Starling, and they had two children together, Elias and Pearl.
Aria and Hollis went into hiding around the same time as Andy’s family did, fearing for their safety, and made it about a year longer. But it didn’t matter in the end. Death Eaters found and made examples of them as blood traitors, killing everyone.
Ezekiel Benton Samuel
Bishop’s uncle. Born in 1954 to Max and Agnes, the third of five siblings. He typically went by Zeke. He attended Hogwarts from 1966 to 1973, where he was sorted into Hufflepuff. There he discovered his passion for herbology, which he pursued after leaving Hogwarts. He married school sweetheart Hannah Littletree, and they had one son together: Maximilian, named for his recently deceased grandfather.
Zeke, Hannah, and little Max were some of the first Samuels to be killed during the war, which prompted many of them to go into hiding.
Dunstan Theodore Samuel
Bishop’s uncle. Born in 1956 to Max and Agnes, the fourth of five siblings. Almost immediately, it was clear that he was the black sheep of the family, darker and moodier than his siblings and cousins. He was also the first Slytherin Samuel in decades, when he attended Hogwarts from 1967 to 1974. Though he loved his family, he had a strange way of showing it and often felt slighted by everyone. The only one he really got along with his baby sister, Yvette.
When Yvette was struggling to care for her young son and abandoned by her fiance, Dunstan helped her find a muggle orphanage to leave the baby with. And when Yvette was killed, Dunstan couldn’t find it within himself to stick around. So he simply vanished, and most assumed him dead like the rest of his family.
He resurfaced in the muggle world a few years later, applying to work in a toy shop. He created toys for both muggles and wizards, and eventually takes over as the shop’s owner. He also checks in on his nephew Bishop from afar every once in a while, and later on his great-niece Nora, who looks so much like his beloved sister...
Yvette Chrysanthe Samuel
Bishop’s mother. Born in 1958 to Max and Agnes, the youngest of five siblings. She has always been the baby, the quietest and most timid of the bunch. The other four would do anything for her, but no one more than Dunstan. She attended Hogwarts from 1970 to 1977, where she was sorted into Ravenclaw.
During her later years at Hogwarts she was rather unfortunately manipulated and taken advantage of by a slightly older student named Aidan Rhys. They became engaged, but when Aidan learned that she was pregnant and expected him to care for his own child, he ran off on her. He was found dead several months later.
Unable to care for her newborn son alone during the war, and having seen her nieces and nephews dying so young, she made the difficult decision to abandon Bishop for his own safety before going into hiding with her brother Dunstan. Three years later, she was found and killed.
