-slides in- i hope yall don't mind me rambling a bit!
The title of high king is a more military role, and the alliance itself is a military force. While varian still served his own people as a king, he led the alliance's military forces because he was good at strategies and he was very skilled in battle and could make good choices for the alliance at whole.
At least that's what i remember, don't fully quote me on that.
Anyways, whoever the title of high king/queen goes to next is not based on their race. Anduin became the king of stormwind because of blood, none of the other alliance leaders could take stormwind from him unless they had a drop of human royal blood in them. If the current stormwind monarch dies or goes missing then the crown would go to the next person who has royal blood in them. And we saw this happen in classic and the comics when varian went missing and the title of king fell upon anduin but the power went into onyxia and bolvar because anduin was only a child back then and so the highest ranking adults would take over until varian returned or anduin became of age.
I don't really know why they made anduin the high king of the alliance but what i can see the other leaders and the people treat it the same way that the title of a royal crown would be treated because varian was the high king so when he was killed people looked to anduin to become high king because he was the son of varian and expected anduin to be someone like his father was.
If blizzard doesn't screw over anduin's character then they'd know anduin has the chance to bring peace between the alliance and horde because the alliance put him in such a position of power to make choices for the alliance. The only issue is.. Sylvanas and genn. And i don't really think i need to explain myself on that one..
But if the position of the horde operates in a similar way to the alliance then we can obviously see that race is not an issue nor requirement. It just depends on the person who is chosen to sit on the throne. And right now, sylvanas is on the throne but she is the kind of person who should -not- be allowed in such a high position of power. The legion would be a likely suspect that disguised themselves as loa and tricked vol'jin on his last moments, but the legion had already defeated both alliance and horde on the broken shore so there's no real point for them to go through all of that to trick vol'jin into making sylvanas warchief. But we do know who would do that.
The Old Gods.
the high king of the alliance is the child of the previous high king meaning that the most power stays within one species and for some reason everyone else is okay with that.
but like. at least there’s a system, even if it’s inherently and ridiculously flawed.
the warchief of the horde is whoever won the most recent scrabble game
