I'VE BEEN CAUGHT IN THE ACT-
Star this is going to be so long. Star this is going to be a Thesis I am so sorry
Hearing you yell about Six makes me so happy 😭 you see the worms that are inside my brain and are multiplying them tenfold. We will appreciate him So Much. I'm gonna sniffle more about him a little further down but just <333 aughe <3. Even when he's in an episode that isn't great, he elevates it so much by just,, being him, yknow? His personality so bright and bold and mercurial that you can't help but have a good time while he's on screen. He can frown disapprovingly at me anytime. OKAY ON TO EPISODES- [I’ll preface this with ‘the last time I watched through a full season of Classic Who was at least 4 shoe sizes ago’, so have mercy on me if I forget a good one]
STARTING NOTES :
The Three Doctor’s. Exactly what it says on the tin, one of the specials. Either you can watch this after checking out bits of Doctors 1-3, OR give it a peek-through early to get to know 'em a little bit!
The first two Doctors aren’t for everyone - the stories are usually pretty long (sometimes 2-3+ hrs) and can have a ton of filler, I know I wasn't super into 'em when I started - so if you find that they aren’t really jiving w/ you, but you still wanna get a feel of their personalities, this is a great one! (And on the other hand, if find that you love ‘em, it’s great to see them all together! The interactions between 2 and 3 are amazing in these eps.)
I’ll mention The Five Doctor’s here for much the same reason. Seeing 1 and 5 argue with each other is VERY fun, 3 is always a good time, overall a lot of really silly moments!
ALRIGHT outside of that :
First Doctor :
Crotchety old man, loves his grand-daughter, Susan. Very scientific and analytical, gets a touch softer as the series goes on.
It's also just really fun to see where it all started? Whenever one of the later Doctors go all snippy and stern, you can almost feel the wisps First Doctor comin' out <3 and that makes my eyes go all wet and blinky. ANYWAYS, IN TERMS OF GOOD EPS I REMEMBER :
The War Machines! Lots of good moments btwn him and his companion at the time, Dodo, and I love evil machines.
And if you find yourself enjoying that, I’ll suggest The Time Meddler - getting to see The Doctor interact w/ another time-traveler is very fun!
Second Doctor :
Much more silly! He’s got a childish sort of aura to him, but he’s wonderfully clever. He’s also got a recorder, so that’s a huge bonus. It’s unfortunate that so much of his run was lost!
EPS :
The Invasion - wonderful, although two episodes are missing, I believe they've been re-animated? Don't quote me on that. It's just a real good storyline, and we get some Cybermen in there!
The War Games is a great one w/ him, but it’s also about 4 hours long, so I’ll leave this more as an honourable mention - it’s the first time we ever see Gallifrey, it’s 2’s regeneration episode, some WW1 commentary, lots of good stuff here!
Third Doctor :
Quite suave, very much a dandy, although he wouldn’t take kindly to you calling him that. He has this simultaneous elegance and silliness that makes him so fun. Pertwee ily.
He gets a car, her name is Bessie :) that’s important and I think u should know it.
I also remember him kicking ass a bit more than the other doctors? He sword-fights The Master, I don't know what else to say MANSDMASN. EPS :
Honestly his first ep (season 7, ep 1) is a great time. Delirious from regeneration, we first see him face-planting into the grass. He rambles about shoes. He’s still settling into himself, it’s very fun to see.
Terror of the Autons is another honourable mention - The first time we meet The Master!
Fourth Doctor :
Ehehe <3,, ehe,,,, eheheheeeeeeee :) <- I like him a normal amount. you cannot prove otherwise. pay no attention to the man behind the curtain.
I will bat away my evil and wicked and loving thoughts long enough to tell you why he’s my silly goose :)
He’s got this wild-eyed eccentricity that I adore <3 he is staring at everything and everyone with the UTMOST intensity.
I love his habit of smiling in the worst situations? Someone will have a gun pointed directly at him and he’ll still be as giddy as ever. He has so much love for the adventure of it all. Okie if I keep going I fear I'll never shut up about him, SO :
The Ark In Space! If you REALLY want to get a feeling for his overall vibe + the way he interacts w/ his companions, this is a great one!
Another Doctor where his intro episode (season 12, ep 1) really is just a great time. He jump-ropes ominously and then shoves a man in a closet, and that’s only the beginning!
The Android Invasion gets a mention here - I love body-snatcher-style stories, lots of fun moments, even if I don’t think it's one most people would consider The Best Of The 4th Doctor.
Fifth Doctor :
Celery Man :) At the time he was the youngest Doctor, and you see a lot of that in his personality? I remember him having a lot more hope than some of the previous incarnations. He gets described as naive a lot, both in and out of universe, which I find very endearing.
Earthshock! Kind of a standard recommendation for 5, but it’s definitely for a reason - plus, who doesn’t love a classic Cyberman story?
The trilogy of Mawdryn Undead, Terminus, and Enlightenment is also really good. Turlough’s great companion and his whole Deal during this arc is super interesting. If you find yourself liking 5, those are all great!
Sixth Doctor :
Oh,,, you know,,, <3333
>:)
KJSDKSAJF ok I don’t need to tell you what a delight 6 is, we know this, we see this, we love this, we want this, we yearn- I’m getting distracted, but this does give me an excuse to ramble about him and all his wonderful little traits, so I’ll take it!
He has so many good moments in Attack of The Cybermen. Him taking the apple outta Peri’s hand? The nose-boop? His expression when the TARDIS tries to disguise herself? He is, in his own words, a man of ‘science, temperament and passion’ - and I love him to bits!
Even when he’s being an arrogant little jackass, you can tell he cares! He’s worried for whoever might be sending the distress signal! bah <3
Like I said before - Colin Baker was having such a good time as Six, and that just adds so much fun into the character.
Anyways I am rambling about nothing in particular but. Nod nod. Star I see you I am waving at you from across the street. Six we love you sweetie <3
Seventh Doctor :
I will admit - as much as I love Sylvester McCoy, 7 is definitely The Doctor I’m the least familiar with!
The only episode I distinctly remember was Greatest Show in The Galaxy, purely from the. brightness of it all MNADSMSAN.
I am so sorry Mr. McCoy
AOUGHE THAT GOT SO LONG I’M SORRY AMDSNASMDN - I know how overwhelming it is getting into Classic Who, so I hope some of these suggestions help you on the journey
OUTIS send help, Doctor Who is the gift that keeps on giving 😭😭😭 i thought the Toymaker would be the end of it but folks in my Toymaker server made a few jokes about Six. and i had -no idea- about what kind of character Six is. holy FUCK i am in LOVE with this pompous, arrogant asshole 😖💖💖💖💖 he's so cute!!!!! so abrasive!!!! so......PASSIONATE!!!!!! i didn't know he was such a freak!!!! yes yes yes please do rewatch his era because i'm doing it for the first time and having a blast 😂💖
yes,,,, YYYYEEESSSSS. This is perhaps the best development that could have happened. I need you to know how quickly I scrambled downstairs like some sort of Ghoul to try and find the old boxsets and AUGHE!!!!
I FORGOT WHAT AN ABSOLUTE CHARACTER HE IS!!!
He's got such an incredible amount of drama and charisma and wild-eyed charm inside of him, I can't believe how this man has slipped to the back of my mind for so long. Even outside of his borderline regeneration-induced-mania during his first storyline, he's just. such a delight. Colin Baker is having the time of his life delivering every line, and you can TELL
Tumblr media
Look at him - what's not to love?
Also, this isn't directly related to our dear multicoloured man, but - thank you for giving me an excuse to Stare Affectionately at Classic Who! There are so many of those delightful quirks and silly set-pieces you can only really find in early 70s-80s sci-fi, sprinkled all throughout, I just,,, ah <3333 it has been so long
OKIE IM RAMBLING BUT >:) EHEHE I cannot wait to see you slip further and further into Doctor Who Fevers. Come yell with/at me anytime, I love seeing ppl experience Classic Who and all the wonderfully wild things it has to offer
