How do you attend a Sephardic Reform synagogue when Reform is an Ashkenazi movement? They don’t go by Sephardi minhagim even if they have Sephardic cantors and rabbis.

on a factual “ basis you are correct but several jewish communities in america do not really follow the strictness of "they do that, we do this"

my current synaogue is very old and was founded by sephardic jews who came to america. it still considers itself a sephardic synagogue. many bloodline relatives of the original founders of this shul still live in the city and attend the services. but i live a diasporus area and the reform movement is THE most common movement in america. we adapt. we observe the mitzvot we wish to observe. etc.

jewish culture in america is widely influenced by the diaspora of jews. (especially the reform jewish culture. i cannot speak for ALL denominations). so while we are a sephardic congregation of mostly portuguese jews, we follow the reform movement because that is the main american denomination of both observant jews as well as ""secular"" jews.

my rabbi is very proud that we are american jews. he is also very proud of the portuguese immigrants that founded our shul. i live in an area with multiple different forms of jewish culture. so while yes, sephardic jews in EUROPE dont typically have denominations like reform and conservative, AMERICAN jews usually will. it is the same for where i grew up as well, not just my present city. i grew up in a very jewish county in america with MANY synagogues (meanwhile my current city has like. two.) so yes they were a bit more seperate but EVEN THEN youd go find a sephardic synagogue from my home county and they still list themselves being under a the reform movement on their website. we are just sort of the melting pot of jews.

idk how else to answer this. jews in america, even obvservant ones as myself, are very involved in our diaspora. my rabbi cracked a joke last month about how chanukkah is coming up and the difference between ashkenazi jews and sephardic jews are the latkes vs the sufganiyot. but we are american jews so it doesnt matter, WE get to make BOTH as our tradition. (punchline was like blah blah we are american blah blah we <3 oil and deep fried treats)

idk if this answers your question but tldr: we dont follow any strictness of “different” parts of different movements. being a diaspora is important to the jewish communities ive grown up in and things change and adapt over time. our congregation was started by some portuguese immigrants and over time the demand for this congregation to join reform grew
