chapter 11 and 12 of our transformers one fanfic are out! :3 for those of you who may ask ?what does justice regarding airachnid look like? chapter 11 is an answer we offer w/ autobots trying to dismantle carceral state (kind of hard to do on day one of liberation), the ideals are built up in previous chapters, along w/ previous chapters also laying out Airachnid's motives & backstory are. she's introduced in chapter 7, we write her as having been one of the first transformers to be activated after Sentinel's coup, who her mentors were (Fistfight and Cyberwarp, Fistfight is also Sentinel's Conjunx so Sentinel is kind of her stepfather as it were), etc. early story mostly focuses on arcee & early miner movements tho :3

and yes, there is toxic yuri (and closure on it) between elita and airachnid and more so between arcee and airachnid but it is very different from the Transformers Prime dynamic in that Airachnid both has to publicly pretend she doesn't commit atrocities on behalf of the colonial client state that serves the Quintessons and she also has conflicting feelings about doing them because of her upbringing and the common heritage we lay out for transformers and the miners in this story, (this is the most non-spoilery way to lay this out), also it's different in the sense that Arcee and Elita also have healthier yuri going on for them with other bots... ...regular readers of our stuff are probably not surprised to see (trans) sparktion xenogender gal WLW, will go ahead and tag the two she's with at this point in the story besides Moonracer! Also this does get more in depth as to what taganite means than other stories have...

TF One Fanfic: Joined at the Spark

We finally finished the first five out of fifteen chapters of this thing, had to because it's always on our mind when we're not thinking or doing something else (we loved the movie that much and it unintentionally collided with so much of what we write and adore about transformers), major spoilers for Transformers One of course. Summary under the cut, major characters so far are in the tags:

Before his overthrow was spearheaded by Optimus Prime, Elita One, Bumblebee, and Megatron, Sentinel Prime's colonial client state regime over Iacon and it's mines faced multiple challenges from the very beginning and throughout its fifty years following the end of the overt thousands-year long conflict between Transformer society and that of the Quintesson empire. This is a story of how those challenges were resolved, how no matter how it played out, one way or another Sentinel's regime would fall under it's own oppressive weight, the intercession of his overlords, or from the liberation of revolution- and it is also the story of the first batches of miners at the heart of that, of Solus Prime's gambit against possible betrayal, the story of how Arcee, Moonracer, and their pals pushed back, while Sentinel desperately looked for a way to legitimize his rule by having a co-conspirator to blame- a reactionary much worse than himself. To stop him from destroying the parts of the legacy of the Thirteen and the old alliances of Cybertron, the transformative nexus at the foundation of the eldest ways of autonomy known to their species, that Sentinel still thought he cared for. The end will navigate how, decades later, Arcee and some of her pals managed to survive, and the part they play beyond what the film showed. Breakdown: Arcee

Boy, do I have a treat for you.

How I feel about this character: Sheeeeeeeee. <3

I haven't read any of her stories in the comics, but I enjoyed the Arcee from TFP a lot. She's got her own struggles, she broods a lot, and she has to learn to heal from her trauma over losing her previous partners and let go of the hatred that clouded her judgement at times. I vibe with her closed off defensive personality, and I think her being trans like in IDW1 and being wary of mistreatment would add another layer of depth to her personality and motivations.

All the people I ship romantically with this character: Hehe, I like the Greenlight ship. Yeah yeah, I'm using the IDW1 trans identity and the IDW2 lesbian relationship. You can't stop me. I find their potential interesting, with Greenlight being a more level headed scientist who already has a community among Elita One's team, while Arcee is still trying to find her place in the Autobots when she meets her. Arcee hasn't been there for that long compared to the other Autobots, and she hasn't felt at home there yet. Granted, she hasn't felt at home anywhere she's been since her childhood, and even that was kinda shit. So when she meets this group of women, some like her, she feels like the world got brighter. And that connection she makes with Greenlight gives her something to be happy for when she wakes up in the morning.

My non-romantic OTP for this character: Tailgate, Cyclonus, Prowl, Springer, Hot Rod, GALVATRON- She has a lot of people around her that she has interesting dynamics with. I mentioned this in my Cyclonus breakdown, but I think they come from similar backgrounds. Like Cyclonus, Arcee and her twin were forged with dark sparks (my current term for the Dark Energon sparks), and they both grew up in different versions of that culture. Cyclonus was part of his town's church in Tetrahex, and he grew up playing the ceremonial drums and singing holy ballads since childhood. The twins, however, were basically raised in a cult town (more on that later). Despite that, they have a shared heritage that isn't often discussed or appreciated like those of the Thirteen. Arcee and Cyclonus have a mutual respect for each other, both as fighters and as comrades. He was rather disappointed in her when she defected and left Galvatron behind. He's not one to forget a slight against his faction, and he can hold a grudge for a long time if he believes it's justified. He was still upset at her for a long time after she left, and he still was a few million years later when they met again.

Tailgate was her partner in the intelligence department. It was Prowl who took her in as one of his subordinates, as the other members of high command weren't too fond of her. He had a preference for pairing up his subordinates; one he kept from serving as an enforcer in Praxus. He intentionally paired Arcee up with Tailgate, who had recently returned from medical leave after battling Cybercrosis, which he was able to beat thanks to Pharma developing a cure. His extended absence left him without a partner, and Prowl saw it as the perfect opportunity to expose Arcee to socializing in their faction. At first, Arcee was less than pleased to be working with Tailgate. His chipper demeanor and childish attitude made her feel like more of a babysitter than an equal partner. She didn't even like kids. After working with him, she finds that he's quite intelligent, more than she gave him credit for, and he gets shit done on missions. She decided he wasn't so bad to hang out with in time. It was Arcee that originally didn't want Tailgate hanging around Cyclonus, but she was moved after a little while of Cyclonus being there.

Ok, now this is getting kinda long, so I'll just do one more. GALVATRON. Her beloved, stupid moronic twin brother. Her and Galvatron have always had it rough, even as children. The two of them grew up in what was basically a cult that worshipped Unicron as their god. Their town in the Darklands was small and rather rural, and they weren't welcome outside of their own community due to the fear around dark sparks. They always supported each other, even when no one else did. Galv was the first person to really listen to Arcee about her struggles with gender, and he still is her most vocal supporter. They fought like hell to stay together, even when outside forces tried so hard to separate them. They bicker and argue all the time, and from the outside it seems like they don't like each other, but they have an unbreakable bond. Galvatron was devastated when she left. They'd stuck together all this time, and when they finally have their own freedom and control of their lives, she ran away. He was hurt and angry with her, but he was also very sad, even if he refused to show it. They wouldn't end up meeting again face-to-face for a few million years, but they crossed paths many times, and each knew when the other was near. Both of them see their broken bond as a tragedy.

Enough of my ranting, back to the post.

My unpopular opinion about this character: They make her so dainty and thin in everything, and I'm not a fan. Like, especially with her relation to Galv, and them having a similar frame type when forged, I feel like she should be more buff. She did get a reformat done, but I feel like she would still be a bigger bot based on my interpretation of her. She was a gladiator, she's a heavy hitter, and she values her power as a means to defend herself from further hurt. Let her be buff dammit.

One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon: Let her be bros with the Wreckers again. The dynamic between her, Springer, and Hot Rod was funny. I want that, except with her as less of a generic woman character. They weren't great at writing female characters in the 80s. And I'd like them to have a friendship without there being this implied love triangle thing or whatever. One thing I appreciate is when there are explicit platonic relationships between men and women characters without the "they have to be romantically involved" subtext. That doesn't mean don't ship any characters if they work well together, but I hate forced straight relationships where the writers feel like they have to make two characters kiss because they're the opposite gender. Write people normally, please.

The War of Cybertron: Love Between Sparks.

A lot of things happen during the war… including the obstacles couples faced together.

Like Greenlight and Arcee: One of them ending her engagement with a fellow scientist and the other was divorced though it was amicable. How both of them decided it’s not the best to fall in love again especially with the uprising revolution that perked many audio receptors… until Arcee laid her optics on Greenlight and fell HARD. There was immediately something there between them as a relationship was born within but soon, the war broke out. The two joining the same faction and their relationship grew on, though they did face a few twists and turns. Greenlight got along quite well with Arcee’s ex, Aileron, but the same can’t be same with Arcee and her relationship with Greenlight’s ex: Lancer.

Arcee and Lancer DESPISE each other, thankfully it didn’t effect the relationship Arcee and Greenlight had but Lancer and Greenlight were still close… as in as colleagues who respect each other but Greenlight AND Arcee do acknowledge that there is still lingering feelings on Lancer’s part. Either way, Arcee and Greenlight’s relationship was still growing and forming, but they both knew that they were deeply in love with each other. However, neither one said it yet.

But the couple were then captured by the Decepticon’s mad scientist and bounty hunter, Airachind, who had faced off Arcee on multiple occasions. A merciless and vicious femme who take great pleasure in tormenting her captive and she took great stride in harming Greenlight before Arcee’s optics. Thankfully, the pair managed to escape but the wounds within them took a long road to heal. However, Airachind did strike again and this time kidnapped Greenlight and Lancer while the pair of scientists were out researching together.

This time, Airachind took pleasure in hurting Greenlight AND killing Lancer before the distraught Greenlight’s eyes.

As Greenlight gets rescue, the pain of not being able to save Lancer ate her up and Arcee’s own guilt of not able to protect her from swallowed her up, the pair wound distancing themselves from each other. Though, many of their fellow bots notice the yearning looks the two share towards each other and how the they long for each other. Even the cons notice the tension between them.

However, finally, as Greenlight heard that Arcee was critically injured in battlefield, it woke her up. The thoughts of losing Arcee, a living a life without her. A life of constantly wondering of “what if’s” and sorrows and pains… no… no, she can’t. She rushed to the med bay where First Aid assured that he and the rest of the medics are doing everything ti stabilize Arcee’s condition. The hours of waiting, the constantly pacing, the amount of tears she shed in many of her friends’ arms… finally, Ratchet allowed her in to see Arcee.

She was stabilize but still had a few hours until she receive consciousness.

Greenlight dutifully sat by her side, holding her servo and waited. She waited, and waited, she prayed, and she continued to wait.

Until it was morning and Arcee gently caressed her cheek as Greenlight fell asleep by the bed side.

“I love you.” Greenlight tells her, tears running down her faceplates, cupping Arcee’s cheek. “I love you, Arcee. My spark is yours and only yours, forever.”

“… Really?” Arcee asked, looking hopeful as Greenlight laughed weakly as she nodded instantly with a quiet ‘yes’. Arcee pulled her close, tears running down her faceplates too “I love you, Greenlight. From the moment I laid my sights on you, my spark is all yours right then and there.”

And with that, they kissed, ignoring the excited chattering of their friends outside the room.

There were moments of up and downs, couple quarrelling between them but their love grew stronger and the two became the nosey lesbian aunties who try to play match makers with their friends/‘children’ and perhaps with the enemies as well. The mix of it all, Greenlight gets sparked and the couple welcomed their beloved little Gauge.

Little Gauge was the apple of her mummys’ eyes. When the couple told Optimus that Greenlight was expecting, he burst into tears and embraced them as this was a new hope for the future… that they can continue moving forward.

Everything was ok…

Until an alternate!version!Lancer comes back through a portal and more chaos is born. This was going to take a while… but when Geeenlight and Arcee have each other, there is no storm cloud that they can’t outrun. They will fight for each other and for their daughter and that’s a promise.

It was such an honor to team up for this with you as always!!! :3 We've uploaded a version of the accompanied writing (already in the zine) to Ao3 as well!! As Anode or Lug, you are taking steps in a galaxy following a reconciliatory Autobot victory in Autobot-Decepticon-Unicron wars, to help rebuild and make something new, both for society and yourselves, reconnecting with family and friends you were away from due to the war, transforming the world and each other together, and rekindling love in such reforging of and for peaceful autonomy, addressing old wounds…. We wrote 2 excerpts set at different points in dating sim style for this story, one from Anode's perspective meeting with Windblade and Proxima on Cybertron early in the story to start restoration, and one from Lug's on the Lost Light supporting Rodimus's surgery including by helping her partner Drift with advice on how to support Roddy, This story is very much about finding the Forge of Solus Prime in oneself and the people around you. The Ao3 release has been edited for typos we missed for the zine release.

So the Transformers RPG's Beginner Box: Roll Out set is coming with the scenario of the core rulebook and the first scenario of the A Time Is Now campaign book, and character guides for Hound, Gauge, Anode, Aileron, Smokescreen, Novastar, Beachcomber, and Springer, some of whom were stand-ins for player characters in A Time Is Now including in the art for the book. This is releasing in May.

Gauge, Aileron, and Anode have actual character guides for suggestions of how to play them!!! Arcee, who is the quartermaster of the Ark and an npc in A Time Is Now, also had a pregen released a while ago as free bonus material as a warrior sentinel (which means she's specialized in melee weapons/martial arts generally and deflecting attacks and such and can have an extra shield or parrying weapon, can manifest energon weapons without spending energon, has more free actions, etc) with a gladiator influence.

So um if there is anybody out there looking to play some of the (trans) lesbian gals of transformers and their mentee (admittedly in Anode's case assuming she was just Arcee's friend like in IDW1 she's more like Gauge's aunt but we're pretty sure everyone following us is aware that we very much adore the Greenlight/Aileron/Anode/Arcee/Lug/Lancer ship that we're more or less responsible for being one of the first to toss around on the internet) or would like that to be their introduction to the game this is a thing you will be able to do in a few months.

Just. Just really blown away. We're just overjoyed, especially with everything happening right now that makes life for gender and orientation expansive folk so hard, that Renegade committed to showing some more of these bots. Very curious what Anode's art will look like since she hasn't had any of her IDW art shown in the book yet, Aileron got some new art in the TTRPG as did Gauge.

*coughs* obviously if you play Aileron *cough* there is an obvious npc in A Time Is Now to romance in the game if that's something people at the table including the GM who'd be playing her is cool with that *wheezes in lesbian*-

assuming its not already an established relationship and this is just more of a family adventure of some alien robot lesbians (okay look we have to note that the same gender loving transformer gals probably wouldn't call themselves lesbians they might have their own words for that and gender stuff but this is not the post to talk about the orientation and aesthetic systems we've come up with for transforming alien robots) and their friends and their daughter. I um wow this a thing. wow even though things can be crud this really actually happened. We actually had the honor of playing Gauge in a delightful and harrowing A Time Is Now game with some friends and the mother-daughter moments with Arcee were really fun

this was really relatable to us apologies beforehand OP but this really spoke to our robot aft so;

legit been thinking for many months about adding a disclaimer to our instant messaging app profiles (and if we ever using dating apps again) that says "Don't ask me out unless you're willing to read EXRID or even just Best of Arcee plus having carefully considered the full meaning IDW1 Arcee's wiki page and that essay we wrote that one time" because literally only one person (who we're still friends with) out of more than a handful did that latter step (not specifically for this reason but it came up) and that was most we felt like someone understood us and could respect our boundaries and desires in retrospect, save for us wanting her to be able to love herself and accept that people care for and think well of her (this has gotten a lot better from what we can tell).

finding a succinct way to put that on a shirt honestly is tempting for another reason after dealing with a probable chaser cis guy recently who could not take the hint on us mentioning how much we liked the transfeminine narratives in transformers and it took outing ourselves as "sapphic/enbian" (this is just living and breathing) and plural (more difficult but in the space we were at the time not really) + a gal friend of ours (bless your heart dear pal) showing up and us lighting up to say hi to our friend for him to take the hint and he left immediately without saying goodbye or a word when I said bye. which combined with the fact he had tipped off knowing I was trans earlier in a weird way that made me wonder why would you ask me to come out for a smoke if you know it's unhealthy for me my guy kind of told me that he um well was not interested in respecting me. this is the third chaser we've dealt with so far in our life bleh.

I mean. I already looked like I was out in that peak 2010s undergrad degree queer showing who I am and what my neurodivergence is through pins kind of way?!!? How do you look at someone with a pin of Anode/Lug embracing + Greenlight/Lancer together not to mention various other gals (Aileron and Arcee included) and a lesbian colors Arcee and conclude 'this insert slur trans gal is primarily interested in cis men or evenly bisexual and I should totally try to follow up on this when it's very clear you're trying to leave to go home' at a transformers convention (the kicker is he did not know much about transformers so he was what. there to pick up trans women since somehow that deep cut of a takeway that transfems like transformers was disjointed from why?) lmao? lmao. lmao! its funny in retrospect but also absolutely ridiculous and concerning.

Maybe when we finish our EVA back stacks we'll have to write trans4trans on them to shoo people or something but we already know that in itself isn't enough

Take this with a grain of salt given the material we're referencing, the specific issue isn't cited on the wiki's transformer romance section for some reason so we'd have to dig to verify, but Megatron/Blackarachnia was apparently a thing in Legends World. But that's it. One time. Uno. Onnne. and y'know it's not uncommon for a homosexual to have a handful of flings or relationships that don't line up with their orientation. expecting a perfect record or whatever gets into weird categorization territory and what their orientation is is ultimately up to them. Given the one who talks the most about identity or is around such conversation in any meaningful way are the Megatrons of Masters and Mayhem (who very clearly was into Optimus) and the Megatron of IDW1 we think it's fair to say Megatron is gay AF

look to put this another way the fact Arcee was flirting with Rodimus, Springer, or Chromedome in G1 and was strongly implied to be with Cliff in the TFP videogame, she had Bee for a partner for the Devil's Due crossover that Bee died in, and that any scenes suggesting romance between her and Wheeljack in ROTB were cut doesn't change the fact that her relationships with the most substance are blatantly WLW (Aileron in IDW1, and Greenlight in three different continuities; IDW2, MLP crossover, TTRPG) and that she certainly has had intense moments with other gals otherwise over the years. We think that as far as using human labels go (we'd prefer to use one of cybertronian origin, taganite for her, which coined for our IDW1 fic and it comes up in our One fic also in aruably more detail atm) sapphic is more than fair and if people read her as a lesbian there's no reason to challenge that yknow? :3

40 years of franchise

Optimus Prime has had Elita(g1, tfa, and tfe), no? But also that weird tension with Shockwave(g1 idw), Dion (g1), and of course his obsession with Megatron(everything), right?

Okay, so you know... pretty bi to me :D

But then you have Megatron. So with Megatron, you see Kiloton, Ultra Magnus (idw and Netflix trilogy) Rodimus (idw) Starscream(choose your media) and of course his obsession with Optimus Prime, right?

No women, I see no tension with any female-presenting robot in the franchise, right? I remember him being close with elita in the Netflix trilogy before the war broke out, but I don't remember it being a love triangle kind of thing.

And he once said Nightbird was "hot enough to replaced you (Starscream)" when said mech said "she's not so hot" (g1 cartoon)

Other than that nothing.

We have both make and female characters lusting over him, tho. However, he hasn't reciprocated their avances (unicron trilogy)

SO... what I'm trying to say is that nothing in 40 years of franchise negates the possibility of Megatron being gay since Megatron has never hinted any interest towards women or female-presenting robots.

There’s a bunch of other writers and fics in three collections put together, over 76 bookmarks so far. In regards to the ship fics, most of what we read for that is sapphic/lesbian or similar content, so if you’re having a hard time finding something like that and want something that isn’t erotic (there’s one or two fics on there that hint at eroticism about as much as the queer robot canon does these days for humor) hopefully this list helps! There are more on our reading list we haven’t gotten to yet, and we will eventually venture into reading longer fics more :3
