i dont know how to explain it but the difference between practical effects and cgi in horror is that cgi feels like you're a cat chasing a laser pointer. like buddy there is just nothing there.

I hate seeing small children and animals in distress in movies because they’re shit actors so you know they’re going through something very traumatic in front of your eyes purely for your entertainment.

Someone somewhere said it perfectly “You don’t have to show me a child in distress or danger for me to feel empathy for a group of people. I feel empathy for people who used to be children too”

And after hearing so many actors tell about how animals are treated on set I get very stressed out when I see a real animal in a movie or show. How do you get a snake to do something? You beat it with a sick until it moves in the direction you want it to move. How do you get a horse to look like it’s drowning? You make it think it’s actually drowning, often to the point of actually pulling it under water. I’ve watched two movies from the 90’s that involved a dead cat and in both cases I’m pretty sure actual dead cats were used because it would be cheaper than making a realistic doll. I love seeing cgi animals. They might look shit but it pulls me less out of the movie than a real animal because I’m not worried about it.

Leave acting to people who know what acting even is.
