yunho was in deep trouble.

he glanced between the unread messages from you and the traffic light that seemingly stayed an annoying red. yunho was one street away from you two’s shared apartment and he’s just realized how long the road home is without you. 

6.05pm: i just got off work, wanna grab dinner? 6.30pm: i’m guessing you’ve got a lot of work ;c 6.35pm: i bought a portion of noodles that you like <3 i’ll head home first 7.12pm: reached home, how long more do you think you’ll need to work for? I can wait for you to eat 7.34pm: the food is getting cold, i’ll eat my share first ;< come home quickly ! 8.13pm: hey, you okay?  9.27pm: why aren’t you responding?  10.04pm: it’s getting late, i’m worried

yunho was pretty certain you wouldn’t buy the story that his phone died. it did, but he neglected that fact for a solid 4 hours instead of borrowing a portable charger from his colleagues.

of all the days to not bring a charger or a portable battery, yunho had forgotten today.

then, to add oil to the fire, he went out for a leisure walk with his good buddy hongjoong, not noting the time as they shared about what was in their hearts. thank goodness hongjoong let yunho charge up his device with whatever remaining juice there was in his own battery.

yunho felt like he’d been stabbed repeatedly in the gut when his phone finally started up, seeing your missed calls and messages. 

as fast as his feet would take him, he sprinted the remaining distance home. 

practically dashing up the steps two at a time, he tamped down a wave of guilt as he spotted you squatting by the door, staring dejectedly at your phone. he pushed himself forward, running down the corridor right to you. 

“yunho!” you sprang up and his heart jumped from how you were merely clad in his hoodie and a pair of shorts in this chilly weather.

he herded you back in, “i’m so sorry. i really am.” words tumbled right out of his mouth, his frame heaving to catch his breath. the door whooshed shut behind him as you stood before him. 

“i’m sorry--” 

“do you know…how…how worried I was?” your breath was shaky, fists clenched right beside your body. guilt surged forth in yunho’s heart. “i waited and waited. no reply from you. none!” you raised your voice unintentionally, your hands coming up to (lightly) punch against his chest. 

“my phone died--” 

“there’s nothing to explain! for four whole hours yunho. four!” your arms were crossed in front of you. yunho didn’t have the heart to tell you that he thought it was really sweet of you to have been so worried. he was an adult after all.

“i’m okay.” he assured you, arms held out to placate you. 

“but it’s not okay! you could have been hurt or something! i didn’t know where you were. i couldn’t…i…” you trailed off and tears flowed down your upset face.

yunho immediately dropped his bag, “hey, hey. i’m here now.” he pulled you into his embrace, lightly stroking your back.

“no amount of apologizing is going to make my situation better, I know.” despite the initial guilt, yunho hid his smile from you. your protectiveness and concern really knew no bounds. you sniffled into his shirt, gripping tightly as if to not let him go. 

“i love you.” he whispered, comforting you. “i don’t.” you pouted, pulling away from him. 

“no, baby! don’t say that. i’ll bring two power banks next time, okay?” he emphasized on the word ‘two’ and that seemed to put you in a better mood for you started laughing, tears still streaming down your face.

he mirrored your smile and beamed back at you, having dissipated the earlier tension. leaning in, he pressed a kiss on both sides of your cheeks, “I love you. I appreciate you caring so deeply.”

A Kroger distribution center employee has died on the job in Memphis amid hot working conditions, adding to a national debate in the US over the risk to workers during heatwaves. The worker was identified as Tony Rufus, members from his union announced. Leaders from Teamsters 667, the local labor union, said Rufus was trying to cool off in the produce section after becoming overheated on Friday night. Rufus worked in the salvage department, a part of the facility that did not have air conditioning. The Memphis police department found Rufus dead at 8.13pm. “Guys said he was dripping with sweat, asking for water,” union leader Maurice Wiggins told Fox13. Wiggins said Rufus died on a dock in front of his co-workers. His death comes after his union had been asking the company for more breaks, cooler temperatures and drinks other than just water.

Dear Gus & Magnus,

Erin & Matt have been out of town for the past few days and they asked Gus to feed their fish until they get back. He's taking a lot of pride in the responsibility, partly because he idolizes Mr. Matt, who is constantly doing interesting things around their house.

After we put you two to bed, we hung out on the back porch with the Cory & Jacob and the Bricks, who moved into the house right behind our recently. It was our first time to hang out with, which was nice. They're good people and they have two kids similar in age to you two.
