Still never getting over the conversation I had with another friend/fanfic writer where she was talking about how I write the tightest drafts she's ever seen-

and I was like 'well, you write 750k in a year and you'll write tight too'

because that's... that's what I did in 2015-2016. I was also devestated because my goal had been /1 million/ and I had fallen so short.

And she just paused and went 'huh, I guess it never occurred to me that writing is something you get better at with practice. I thought you were just ya know, good at it.'

#Though I would argue practice doesn't make perfect- it makes permanent #There are some ways my writing has actually gotten worse #I used to write *poetry*#750k in a year doesn't let you keep that.#750k in a year makes your brain take a story idea and produce the necessary beats #because you can't slow down to think about anything too much- you have to keep writing #Every now and then the tiniest whatever creeps in #of how I wrote before I became so practiced #and betas always notice and comment 'oh this is repetitious' or 'you don't need xyz here' and #I think back to the me and my wife almost breaking up before we ever got together #because I was a style ho #and she wanted to correct my *grammar*#And my writing is better for having her correct me all those times #But this morning I miss the poetry.#Phayu deserves the poetry.
