"Don't trust a man who just kissed somebody! That's a man who's saying fuck it." - Taliesin Jaffe, Vox Machina Campain episode 73, The Coming Storm
This was originally was said in reference to Percy kissing Vex, but it 100% applies to Ashton kissing Fearne now too

"You'll get yours. It's coming. And I'm going to help you. And I'm going to high five you when it's done. But until then, you keep that shit tucked inside. Let it build. And then when the time is right, you let her have it." - Grog Strongjaw to Keyleth, Campaign 1, Episode 73: The Coming Storm

It's Got a Death Curse
Artist: @xfancyfranart
Author: @artemis-73 / Artemis73 on AO3
Rating: Explicit
Word count: 18.9k
Tags/Warnings: Graphic Depictions of Violence, Alternate Universe - Modern Setting, Summer Camp, Slasher, Blood and Gore, Minor Character Death, Dean POV
Summary: Dean and his friends have been coming to Camp Garrison for years, first as campers, then as counselors. Their last summer together kicks off with a bang when a figure from their dark past reappears and buried secrets from a near-forgotten tragedy threaten to resurface. It only gets worse when a storm rolls in, and the night becomes a gory fight for survival. The camp may not have electricity, but it's got a death curse.
Preview:
The pounding of rain on the lean-to's roof nearly drowns out the roar of blood in Dean's ears. The chord that should be connecting the generator to the rec hall dangles limply in two useless pieces, sliced cleanly in half. Not chewed through. Not frayed. Cut.
It's a scenario straight out of a horror movie.
The darkness is suddenly suffocating. It clings to his clothes and worms into his skin. He imagines he's the hapless soon-to-be victim, lit only by flashes of lightning in the sky, as the killer slinks closer in shaky 1st person POV footage. The audience yells at the character to look behind them, and he swings around wildly. The light of the flashlight is eaten by the uninterrupted night. Lightning strikes, and he gets a flash of his surroundings.
He's alone.
Coming to @deancashorrorfest this October!

For the fanfic mash-up prompt list, what about 2. Historical and 73. Stranded due to inclement weather?
Me, a history minor, upon reading this prompt: I've never learned anything about any period in history ever in my life
But! After drawing a blank for a while, we've got some vaguely Great Depression-era Steddie
Fanfiction Trope Mashup: 1. Historical AU + 73. Stranded Due to Inclement Weather
cw: brief assumed infidelity (not actually, though)
-
The drifter is handsome, beneath the smudges of road dust he’s picked up from traveling; his long hair is tied back from his face, revealing a soft mouth, high cheekbones, and eyes you could get lost in. He’s carrying a guitar on his back and not much else. He isn’t dressed nearly warm enough for the weather as it is, and certainly not for the snow that the heavy clouds above are threatening.
Steve already knows he’s going to invite him in.
“I don’t give handouts,” Steve says, mostly for himself, so he can pretend he isn’t a soft touch.
“I’m not asking for a handout,” the drifter says. “I’m more than happy to work for a meal.”
Steve pauses, like he’s thinking. There isn’t much left to the Harrington farm these days; they really only have the house, the barn, and enough land to keep some livestock – mostly chickens. (Robin loves the chickens; when they eat one, she makes sure they thank it by name, which Steve personally thinks is weird, but whatever helps her part more easily with them, he guesses.) The chores don’t take long, usually, but with Robin gone for the week, visiting her mother a few towns over, there are still a few things that need doing.
“Guess I could use a hand,” Steve says, and the drifter smiles at him, bright and dimpled, and Steve can practically hear Robin tutting at him – such a sucker for a pretty face.
At least the imaginary Robin in his head is easier to dismiss.
The drifter—“Eddie,” he introduces himself with a firm, calloused handshake—stores his guitar in the kitchen and gets to work helping Steve around the farm (such as it is). He doesn’t seem to have much familiarity with farmwork specifically, but he’s a hard worker and a good listener, and he slots in right alongside Steve with surprising ease.
He’s a bit of a talker – a storyteller, more like, spinning all kinds of yarns about his travels, half of which Steve is sure can’t be true, but which have him hooked anyway. Eddie seems to like him that way: his attention so focused on Eddie that he almost forgets what he’s doing several times throughout the day.
The hours fly by; the wind gets stronger, and you can almost taste the snow on it. Steve gives the animals one last check, makes sure everything is ready to weather a storm should it come, and then he and Eddie hurry inside the house. Steve cooks while Eddie washes up, and they eat sitting at the kitchen table like Steve and Robin usually do; there’s no one to impress by sitting in the overwrought dining room that had always intimidated Steve as a kid.
Snow is falling thick and fast by the time they finish eating.
“I’m not enough of a bastard to send you back out in that,” Steve says, twitching the curtains aside to look at the way little drifts have already started to collect against the fenceposts. “You’re welcome to stay, if you want.”
“Well, I’m not enough of an idiot to turn you down,” Eddie replies, sending Steve a sly grin. “Anything you want me to do around the house to earn a bed for the night?”
Steve rolls his eyes, but he nods towards the living room. “Keep me company by the fire for a while?”
It’s a bit of a gamble – if Steve’s read Eddie wrong, this could end very badly, but Steve doesn’t think he has. He’s always been good at gauging a person’s interest, and he’s certain he’d caught Eddie’s eyes wandering more than once when he thought Steve wasn’t paying attention.
Eddie spends a long moment regarding Steve. “I’ll do you one better,” he finally says, and reaches for his guitar.
Eddie’s voice is rough and low, not always in key, but sincere and achingly soulful. He plays like he was born with a guitar in his hands, pulling music from it a hundred times better than anything Steve’s ever heard on the radio. If he’d been distracted by Eddie before, he’s absolutely enraptured now. He doesn’t even realize he’s been steadily drifting closer to him on the sofa until their knees are brushing.
“It’s getting late,” Eddie says, glancing towards the clock on the mantle. “Am I going to bunk in the barn?”
Steve shakes his head. “I’m sure you’ll be more comfortable in the house.”
“Sure.” Eddie’s grin is slow-spreading as he watches Steve. “It’s pretty cozy down here by the fireplace. Sofa’s nice.”
“I could make you up a bed on the sofa.” Steve nods. “Or – there’s plenty of room in my bed, upstairs. Much cozier up there.”
Eddie’s grin is positively wolfish now. “You’d have me in your marriage bed?” he teases, and Steve shakes his head.
“My wife and I don’t share a bed,” he says (this is largely true, except when they have unavoidable overnight visitors, or when it’s very cold).
“No?” Eddie asks.
“We have an understanding,” Steve replies.
“Do you, now?” Eddie still looks like he isn’t quite sure whether to laugh or to eat Steve alive, but Steve only nods.
“She doesn’t mind if I have the occasional man around, and in return, I don’t mind if she has the occasional lady,” he explains softly. “And we keep each other safe.”
At that, Eddie’s grin softens, becomes warm, almost fond. “And who’s keeping you safe now? Inviting a complete stranger up into your bed." He shakes his head, still trying to tease. “I could be anybody. I could be a murderer, for all you know.”
“You aren’t,” Steve answers with full conviction.
The sincerity seems to give Eddie pause. “What makes you so sure?” he asks, and now he seems almost serious.
“Your eyes,” Steve says readily. “They’re too kind for you to be any kind of bad person.”
Those eyes go wide with surprise. “Well,” Eddie says slowly, “you’re one of the few people who thinks that.”
“Well, maybe other people need to pay more attention,” Steve says. “But if I’m wrong, and you do kill me, at least the last thing I see will be something beautiful.”
And that seems to do it. Eddie leans forward and kisses Steve, his lips chapped and warm against Steve’s.
“You might be the killer here, actually,” Eddie murmurs when they pull apart. “You’re gonna knock me dead with those lines, sweetheart.”
Sweetheart. Steve likes that.
“Better come upstairs with me and give me something else to think about, then,” Steve says, and Eddie doesn’t need to be told again.
The snow continues through the night and into the next day. Steve and Eddie go out first thing to check the animals, to make sure everything is holding against the wind and the snow, and then head back to bed, where they spend the remainder of the day. It seems unkind to send Eddie away in this weather, after all.
In fact, it’s still so cold by the time Robin comes back from her visit that Steve hasn’t yet had the heart to send Eddie away. And if he and Robin talk it over, and if Eddie is still around by the time the warm spring weather comes, and if Eddie just stays and stays, the only thing people in town ever really wonder about is how the Harringtons found the money to hire a hand for their tiny piece of land.

reqs are open :)
the butterfly effect
tsukishima; 1,285 words; fluffy as all living fuck
he has always noticed the little things - the deep, rumbling hunger of the earth, the repeating shuffle of the summer wind, the soft tectonic movements of falling leaves, the velocities of birdsong. and even though he’d never admit it out loud (alright, maybe once or twice to yamaguchi, but does that even count?), he thinks that these are the important things. things that normal people wouldn’t notice, things that normal people take for granted.
“well, it’s just a high school club.”
is it?
“ah, i’m the normal guy, nice to meet you.”
are you?
after the match, you find him hunched over the basin in the boy’s bathroom, panting, his bandaged fingers clutching at the time-stained ceramic, his shoulders shaking as he tries to relearn the meaning of breath, of air, of only and just.
“you’re a liar,” you say, leaning against the bathroom door, keeping it propped open with your shoulder.
“and you’re not suppose to be in here,” he deadpans, glancing at you in the watermarked mirror. he sighs, splashing his face with his good hand before twisting off the faucet. slowly, he unbends himself, straightening up to his full height, dragging the back of his injured hand over his lips as he turns towards you.
“c’mon, they’ll be wondering where we are, and i don’t need anymore rumors of us dating going around school.”
his voice is calm, his expression neutral as he brushes passed you, but he doesn’t miss the way your eyes follow him like motion-based trackers; he can almost feel the crosshairs on his too-flushed cheeks, on his water-logged lashes. he turns back to raise an eyebrow. his heart is the flatline of an earthquake city, his stomach a tangle of twisted phone lines, all static and electricity and unsaid words.
“ah… so you have heard of them,” you muse even as you fall into step next to him.
he scoffs, running a hand through his sweat-slicked hair.
“people at school aren’t known for their tact, especially not about things like this.”
you grin, linking your hands behind your back as you dance three steps in front of him, reveling in the way he narrows his eyes, in the way his steps stutter. he isn’t the only one who’s learned to listen to the language of silence, to the spaces between the words that give them meaning, that make them whole.
“and by people you really mean the second years, right?”
tsukishima sighs, tugging off his sports glasses to polish the lenses with the edge of his sweat-soaked shirt. you watch as he diligently wipes down one lens, and then the other, before stretching it back over his head, adjusting the straps.
“well, tanaka and noya, first and foremost.”
your laughter shakes through him like silver bells. he thinks he’d never get tired of the sound, and suddenly, it is winter and the sky is dark and the first snow of the season is falling around you and you’re laughing, spinning in circles beneath the snow-drift sky, your face turned up to the heavens, arms stretched out as if you’re three seconds from taking flight —
“tsukki! look! look! snow!”
he resists the urge to smile so he rolls his eyes instead; his breath comes out in a puff of white and somewhere out there, he knows that a hundred thousand other kids just like them are lifting their faces, marveling at the falling snow. he knows that somewhere along a stretch of land only 73 miles wide in mexico, a hundred million monarch butterflies are settling in to roost for the winter, and that each flap of those hundred million wings might shake a summer storm into existence, somewhere down the line.
“yeah. i see it.”
but right here, right now, in this rapidly emptying gymnasium hall, filled with the effervescent echoes of teenage dreams, he wonders if you are the hurricane. if you are the summer storm, and he is just the seismograph doomed to record your wreckage.
“so, what are you gonna do about it?” you ask, as the both of you resume your walk down the hall, towards where you both know the team is waiting, the third years still crying, hinata still hollering, kageyama too bloated with happiness to tell him to shut the hell up, yamaguchi probably preening beneath the praise of all his teammates.
“about the rumors, or about us not actually dating?”
you purse your lips, you shrug, but you blush as well. he doesn’t miss the way your shoulders lift up towards your ears, sweet and shy as sunflowers reaching for the last drop of sunlight.
“either. both,” you turn with a devious grin and flash him a wink, and not for the first time, tsukishima thinks he feels that deep, rumbling hunger; he knows the repeating shuffle of his thoughts about you, the soft tectonic movements of your body and his.
he knows the velocity of your voice, the resonance of your smiles, the way it shakes loose the sky within him till he almost tastes that sweet first snow, all that wake and wonder.
“hm… i dunno. you did call me a liar earlier.”
his grin is savage, satisfied. he almost laughs as your entire body inflates with indignation. he wonders how long he can tease you for before you float right off the ground — someday, he wants to try.
“well you are.”
“what, by saying i was normal?”
“yes, and that this was just a club.”
he blinks, he didn’t know you’d remembered. but then again, he should’ve known.
“well. it is, and… i am.”
you frown, taking three steps closer, caging him in even though he knows that he’s got at least a foot over you — a whole head and a half taller, and still —
“liar,” you say.
“hm… and what are you gonna do about it?”
he knows it’s coming three seconds before it does, but it doesn’t feel any less shocking. the warmth of your lips on his, the half-stolen breath still poised in his chest, the widening of his eyes before they flutter closed. there are no fireworks, no explosions, no earthquakes or natural disasters. there’s just this moment, just him and you and your lips on his and —
you take half a step back.
he allows himself a smile.
because he’d never wanted them to just be rumors and he knew that he’d never, ever be considered normal. not by you, or him, or anyone else.
“ahhh… now you’ve done it,” he says, with a soul-rumbling sigh, reaching out to jab his finger into your cheek. he marvels at the way your eyes still widen, as if you never saw that coming.
“done what?” you ask, even as he reaches out to tug on the ends of your ponytail, making you laugh.
“tch. you know what,” he scoffs, tucking his hands into his pockets as he slinks passed you, his eyes cast up, his cheeks tingling with a blush he can’t quite tamp down. and when you hurry to catch up with him, bumping your arm into his, he doesn’t make to move away. instead, he bumps you back and basks in the way your footsteps sound, ringing out against the empty gymnasium halls.
because, sure, this might just be a high school relationship — or it just might be falling in love.
and as he reaches down, hesitates, and finally, finally grabs your hand, somewhere out there, he feels a butterfly flap its wings.

I actually misremembered who made the suggestion; this is @heyyoufriendthere (orange⬇️)'s fault. Plaintext with annotations below the cut.

This is the very picture of an intellectual rights fracas Comics will warp to be like films as fast as you can say "huzzah" But when a megamonopoly swallows up the competition It yanks our blorbos back and forth in an ugly retcon perdition When only Fox can make a movie about the Fantastic Four, The Disney-owned comic office will shove the Four right out the door Until the Disney studio absorbs those rights and then you'll find The comics are suddenly awful sorry they left them behind(1) Then in the instant comic fans begin to cheer an awful lot The news comes in from Bleeding Cool(2) the writer is that fucker Slott(3)
Oh yes when comics warp to be like films and leave you quite agaw This is the very picture of an intellectual rights fracas
When Disney didn't have the rights to film the X-Men and their friends The Inhumans were their idea to have that same magic again But absolutely nobody could give a damn about their deal There was a gas or something uh, the Moon? Nobody cares get real EXCEPT for Ms. Marvel, the only Inhuman breakout success They want her all over the screen at excited public behest Oh yes when comics warp to be like films and leave you quite agaw This is the very picture of an intellectual rights fracas For years the MCU was not allowed to say the word "mutant" They twisted themselves into pretzels out to recoup every cent The silver screen had two Quicksilvers purely for dumb spite reasons With roots in even dumber masturbatorial rights reasons(4) Wanda and Pietro had their sixth or seventh origin retcon(5) To fit the "No More Mutants!"(6) edict corporate decided upon Then Disney bought the M word back for 73 billion bucks (A number that should make you want to strangle all these greedy fucks)
Oh yes when comics warp to be like films and leave you quite agaw This is the very picture of an intellectual rights fracas
Now suddenly it's mutant city all over the comic line They let the X-Men start a sex cult; also they can never die With no need for Inhumans they admitted that they're pretty cringe And nobody will ever give their lore a proper reading binge The MCU made Kamala a mutant like immediately Faster than you can say "bad adaptation" or "brand synergy" In short order the comics gave her the murderization hook In such a hurry it wasn't even in her own fucking book(7) Now big surprise she's coming back on the fucking sex cult island They gave it less than one whole month before they played their fucking hand So Kamala's a mutant now(8) and got a shitty mourning book(9) Which when she's coming back NEXT MONTH you might call a pretty bad look
IT'S TRUE WHEN COMICS WARP TO BE LIKE FILMS AND LEAVE YOU JUST AGAW THAT IS THE VERY PICTURE OF AN INTELLECTUAL RIGHTS FRACAS
~ (1) "At the time, we were told that the Fox-licensed X-Men books weren't to be cancelled as they made too much money for the publisher, but the FF as a middling sales solo title could be missed without hurting the bottom line."
From 2014, when Fox was preparing its 2015 release of Fant4stic, until Disney's film branch recovered the rights by absorbing Fox, the FF were conspicuously absent from comics. The Fantastic Four book was discontinued for the first time since 1962 (for most of those decades they'd supported multiple titles at once) along with all associated merch tchotchkes. By 2017 there was a Twitter hashtag, #WhereAreTheFantasticFour. If you want to hear some people be driven slowly insane by this, Stormcast had a segment called Stormwatch where they analyzed any Johnny Storm appearances in a given month. We're talking deep analyses of single panels.
(2) I know I just linked them, but part of the joke is Bleeding Cool's weird place in the geek news ecosystem. They report everything first, so for the first week you know something you can't strictly confirm it's actually true.
(3) I don't have time to enumerate Slott's crimes but we hate him. Source: Dude trust me👍
(4) How A B-List Hero Became Hot Hollywood Property Fox could adapt him because they had the rights to all mutants, and Disney could because they had the rights to all Avengers. Some characters are both because the comics didn't use to care about this. This is the entire reason the MCU introduced a Pietro Maximoff and then killed him off. Like seriously who kills off one twin. No that was not based on any comic story.
(5) They're not currently Magneto's kids in the main comic line. Everyone hates this.
(6) This is a cheap reference to the comic storyline "House of M".
(7) They killed her off in Amazing Spider-Man (2022) #26 and none of her supporting cast was there.
(8) Kamala Khan to Return in “Ms. Marvel: The New Mutant”

WIP Wednesday: Sebardagni Post-Apocalyptic Domestic Sickfic AU
Tumblr media
I know no one cares about this idea aside from me, but this is the first thing I’ve been able to write in months, and I really fucking need the escapism of Sebastian having two men taking care of him even when the world has fallen to pieces.
I have a few scenes for this written I may end up posting on AO3 later, but for now, enjoy this scene.
The concept for this AU is this: the world ended a few years ago, and Bard, Agni, and Sebastian have been surviving together. Sebastian is chronically ill, so he and Agni mind the homestead while Bard goes off on excursions for supplies. It’s not an easy life, but overall, they’re happy.
~#~
Sebastian balanced carefully. The forearm crutches Bard had fashioned for him fit better than anything he’d managed with since the world collapsed and meant he wouldn’t do just that onto the floor—even if his muscles were weak.
He’d finally managed a few hours’ sleep, exhaustion and one of Agni’s herbal treatments helping to ease his breathing long enough to dream.
And what a dream it was. He couldn’t wait to hurry out of the small bedroom they shared in this tiny mountain cabin and tell Agni about it. As bittersweet as it was, it had felt so wonderfully real, he could almost ignore the perpetual tightness in his chest.
“Agni! Agni!” Sebastian cautiously eased the door open.
The cabin was cozy, a main room with a fireplace, kitchen, and sitting area, a bedroom and bath, and a cellar Sebastian couldn’t access—too many stairs— where they stored food for the winter.
The fire illuminated the room as Agni worked. From the way the orange sun had colored the bedroom, Sebastian suspected it was evening, which would mean Agni would likely be busy prepping their dinner.
Things had been harder lately, since Bard had been gone for weeks now—73 days, exactly, not that Sebastian had been counting—but they made do. Agni wasn’t as skilled a huntsman as Bard, but between their garden, preserved stores, chickens and goats, they managed. Agni had to coax Sebastian more often than not to eat as it was, so he barely dented their food stocks.
“I dreamed Bard came home and he found me medicine, and—“ Sebastian’s voice cut out immediately as he realized he heard Agni speaking to someone. And then he saw him. “Bard?”
The man was perched on a stool at the kitchen island, looking ragged and thinner than Sebastian remembered, but very much not a dream or a ghost.
“You’re alive?!” Sebastian’s eyes filled and he pushed himself to move as fast as he possibly could, dropping his arms from his crutches so he could throw them around his lover. “Agni and I were worried you were never coming home.”
Bard’s strong arms supported Sebastian in their embrace so he wouldn’t lose his footing, enjoying this connection. He smelt like tobacco and sweat and days out on the road, but more than anything, like hope.
Sebastian didn’t even care if Bard hadn’t been able to find any medicine for him. He was just so relieved he began to sob as weeks of emotions he’d been damming up broke free.
“Hey, hey, you’ll make your breathing worse. I’m all right. I missed you both and thinking of getting back here to you kept me going. You know I don’t die easy.”
Sebastian’s legs ached, and Bard sensed his growing instability and helped him sit down beside him. A moment later, Agni set a steaming mug in front of him. The frothy liquid was green. Another one of his herbal concoctions?
“It’s matcha. I lucked out.” Bard scratched his cheek. “Got caught in a bad storm a couple towns over and took refuge in a partly burned-out old asian market. I moved some shelves to help create a barcade and found a whole supply of the stuff that had been overlooked by scavengers.”
“The caffeine will help your breathing,” Agni said with a warm smile. “It’s not medicine, but it was a good find.”
Sebastian tried not to frown as he took a sip. It was bitter, but Agni had added some of the honey from the bees he kept to sweeten it. He didn’t want to ruin their happy reunion by suggesting, again, that maybe it was time Agni and Bard moved on and left him behind. He was too frail to travel, and Bard was having to spend more and more time on the road, detouring farther and farther from their home base in order to find any medicine to help ease Sebastian’s symptoms.
Even before the world fell apart, Sebastian had been ill. But after, the stress and lack of medical care meant his condition had deteriorated significantly, and if they hadn’t found this cabin by chance, he knew he probably would have died years ago.
Sometimes, he wondered if that would have been better for both Agni and Bard, even if he kept his mouth shut as he listened to them talking, Bard regaling some of his adventures while Agni finished prepping their food.
They’d have rabbit stew tonight, thanks to Bard’s catch, and Sebastian cherished the warmth of the mug in his hands as he tried to enjoy the limited happiness of this domestic snapshot.
He did like it here, in their little cabin. The woods shielded them from most of the horrors of the dying human world, and the fresh, dry air eased his breathing some. He loved their little home and garden, and enjoyed helping Agni with the animals when he was well enough to venture outside. He thought, despite his illness and the reality of their new world, he might be content, if Bard didn’t constantly have to put his life at risk for Sebastian’s sake.
Sebastian shivered as one of Bard’s coarse hands played with his long hair, curling a strand around a finger.
“I missed you both so fucking much,” he said. Sebastian could see the fear in those blue eyes, that he’d probably worried he might not make it back, or that by the time he did, only Agni would be waiting for his return.

1. Rule #34 - Fish in a Birdcage
it must first be stated that i have known them for a while and this is not tiktok related.
okay so.
Tumblr media
OK I CANT SAY I AM SURPRISED BY THIS. but jfc i did not expect it to be first. it gave me a lot of thoughts okay. many adrian related. for whom this fact may concern.
also, gotta give them an clap for being internet-literate with the number of the rule.
2. Too Sweet - Hozier
it is so fucking rare that i find a song that i, personally relate to as opposed to it being a blorbo situation (and i can't say we aint shaking hands on this one w vervain, but still). and i know that's not exactly a good look, but fact is fact.
73. Can't Hide From Truth - Gothic Storm
Another change from previous years: i have classical music on here now. I have made a playlist for one of my PCs (Adrian) with some music he might actually listen to (probably while doing magic math), and then that shit got me through finishing my thesis (the many things blorbos are good for). i am not exactly good with interpreting music without vocals, but i have come to associate violins and similar with adrian. what fucking astounds me is that this is higher on the list than my favourite from this list, but whatever you say spotify.
thank you so much for the ask!!! (x)

Story Prompt 73
Chaos descended like an unexpected storm in the world. The air was thick with tension as people rushed about, their faces etched with fear and confusion.
Amidst the turmoil, a figure emerged from the shadows, his presence sending shivers down the spines of those nearby. He was cloaked in darkness, his eyes gleaming with a sinister light.
"There's no human suffering if there's no humans to suffer," he declared, his voice carrying a chilling certainty.
The words hung in the air, a grim proclamation of what was to come. Panic spread like wildfire as the realization dawned on the populace. This was no ordinary threat; it was the promise of annihilation.
In the midst of the chaos, a small group of survivors banded together, determined to fight against the impending doom.

Phyrexian (Template)
Tumblr media
(Spire Drake by Daniel Ljunggren)
(Consider this the sister to the Compleated race; a template that lets you fill out different phyrexian roles as needed without having to come up with wholecloth creations. That said, it's also definitely a crucial part of New Phyrexia's feel, corrupting existing creatures and turning them into more deadly versions of themselves.)
Phyrexia's ultimate goal is conversion, for all life in the universe to experience the glorious perfection of the machine. Phyrexian creatures are living examples, steps towards universal compleation.
Phyrexians have a twisted fondness for drakes, due to their combination of power, flight, and fecundity; they are often assigned as guards, a duty to which they may chafe.
Creating a Phyrexian Creature
“Phyrexian” is an acquired template that can be applied to any living creature.
Type: Type changes to Aberration (Phyrexian). Do not recalculate BAB, skills, or saves. Ability Scores: +4 Str, +2 Int, -2 Wis. Alignment: Alignment changes to NE Natural Weapons: If a creature has no natural weapons, it gains two claw attacks as appropriate for its size. Its claws, or its bite attack if it has no claws, gain the Phyresis disease quality. Natural Armor: The creature gains a +2 bonus to natural armor. Disease: Phyresis, Type: Disease, Wound Save: 10+½ the creature’s HD+the creature’s Con modifier Onset: 1 Day Effect: 1d4 Wis damage, victim is sickened. When the victim's Wisdom is reduced to zero this way, restore all damage, and the creature gains the Phyrexian template. Additionally, caster level checks to cure phyresis get +4 to their DC. Cure: 2 consecutive saves. Defenses: Gains immunity to disease, poison, and acid, and negative energy affinity. Languages: Learns Necril CR: +1 Phyrexian Gift: A phyrexian creature gains one of the following traits chosen at the time of its creation; Ferocity- This creature gains the ferocity Universal Monster Rule. Long Claws (Ex)- This creature’s claws grow long and precise; their claw natural attack has a x3 critical modifier. Many Eyes (Ex)- This creature is given eyes scattered all across its face; it gains the all-around vision sense. Masked (Su)- This creature’s eyes are covered by a mask that is part of its body; it becomes blind, and gains blindsight 60ft. Smog (Ex)- This creature’s body is constantly producing an area of smoke in the space the creature, providing partial concealment (20% miss chance) to the creature and any creatures sharing its space. This smoke can be blown away with a Gust of Wind or similar strong wings, though it returns 1d4 rounds after the wind dissipates. Swampwalker (Ex)- This creature may ignore natural difficult terrain in swamps, such as undergrowth, bogs, and mud.
Phyrexian Sea Drake
A drake flies by, its wings slick with oil, its chest seemingly skeletal, and its face dotted with eyes.

This attack has a range of 100 feet, and deals 6d6 points of electricity damage (DC 17 Reflex half) to the primary target. After it strikes, the ball lightning can arc to a number of secondary targets equal to the sea drake's Hit Dice (usually 7) within 20 feet of the primary target. The secondary bolts each strike one target and deal as much damage as the primary bolt. Once a sea drake has used its ball lightning breath, it cannot do so again for 1d6 rounds. The Reflex save is Constitution-based. Disease (Ex)- Phyresis, Type: Disease, Wound Save: 17 Onset: 1 Day Effect: 1d4 Wis damage, victim is sickened. When the victim's Wisdom is reduced to zero this way, restore all damage, and the creature gains the Phyrexian template. Additionally, caster level checks to cure phyresis get +4 to their DC. Cure: 2 consecutive saves. Speed Surge (Ex)- Three times per day as a swift action, a sea drake may draw on its draconic heritage for a boost of strength and speed to take an additional move action in that round.

Hey Ani! If I remember correctly, you’re hella knowledgeable about weather, right? If I am remembering that correctly, can I ask you a question about something?
(I’ve heard the Bering Sea has a lot of “hurricane force winds”. How can you have those conditions but not a “hurricane” (is there a cold water equivalent?) even when there’s a storm?)
If I’m mistaking you for someone else, I am. So sorry 😅 please ignore me.
But if you are, and you’re up for answering, I’m so intrigued 🖤
Either way, hope you’re doing well 🖤
AAAAAH this ask made me flail and geek out, thank youuuu~ also, this is a fantastic question. *cracks knuckles* Brace yourself for a very happy scientist's ramblings!
Hokay, so the atmosphere would prefer to be in balance. But land heats up/cools down faster than water, places closer to the equator (low latitudes) tend to be warmer than places farther away (high latitudes), and some places are super dry (like deserts) while others are really moist (like rainforests). Temperature and moisture differences such as these affect atmospheric pressure, and pressure imbalances produce winds because air moves toward low pressure and away from high pressure, though not necessarily directly from one to the other due to other factors like friction.
Hurricanes are low-pressure systems that form over tropical oceans and are "powered" by thunderstorms (which are also known as "deep convection" because they're made up of very tall convective clouds, a.k.a. thunderstorms). Those clouds get their energy from warm ocean water and help form the low pressure around which the winds spin. The Saffir-Simpson hurricane wind scale (SSHWS) is the scale by which we categorize hurricanes, specifically by their maximum surface winds averaged over a 1-minute period. (Such winds tend to be highest over the ocean; for example, a landfalling category 1 hurricane may never produce hurricane-force winds over land due to increased friction from the land slowing down the winds. But that's a ramble for another time.)
Generally speaking, a hurricane is a type of "tropical cyclone." When a tropical cyclone in the North Atlantic or eastern North Pacific has maximum winds of 39-73 mph, it's a tropical storm, and reaching a maximum wind of 74+ mph makes it a hurricane. This means 74 mph is the hurricane-force wind threshold.
Extratropical storms are also low-pressure systems, but instead of forming over warm ocean water and being powered by thunderstorms, they result from the collision of warm and cold air masses at higher latitudes (hence the term "extratropical" meaning "beyond the tropics"). The warm air masses often come from the tropics, which makes them juicy too (that is, they carry a lot of moisture with them). The cold air masses tend to be drier, increasing the contrast between the two. Since continents are often the source of the cold + dry air, extratropical storms can develop over ocean or over land!
Strong extratropical storms can produce surface winds that exceed 74 mph, which earns them the moniker "hurricane-force low" because that's the SSHWS threshold for a hurricane. On a weather map, they'll get a label when they reach this intensity, like this storm south of Alaska in early October 2021:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Visible satellite image source (NASA Worldview) Surface analysis map is from the Ocean Prediction Center
For more information, this ArcGIS StoryMap from the Ocean Prediction Center nicely discusses hurricane-force lows that occurred during Spring 2021-Spring 2022 in the Northern Hemisphere.
I hope this ramble clarified a bit about these storms! Thanks again for sending the ask -- I loved diving into the answer.
