Türkiye İstatistik Kurumu (TÜİK), bu yıl ilk kez Kültür ve Turizm Bakanlığı Sinema Genel Müdürlüğü idari kayıtlarını temel alarak ‘Sinema’ istatistiklerini yayımlamaya başladı.

ANKARA (İGFA) – TÜİK, ilk kez Sinema İstatistiklerini yayımladı.

Kültür ve Turizm Bakanlığı’na bağlı Sinema Genel Müdürlüğü verilerine göre 2023 yılında 147’si yerli 224’ü yabancı film olmak üzere toplam 371 filmin vizyona girdiği Türkiye’de 2023 yılında sinema salonu sayısının 2 bin 618, sinema salonlarındaki koltuk sayısının ise 286 bin 603 olduğu kaydedildi.

Verilere göre sinema seyirci sayısı 2023 yılında 31 milyon 5 bin 844 kişi olurken, yerli film seyirci sayısı 13 milyon 716 bin 5 kişi, yabancı film seyirci sayısı 17 milyon 289 bin 839 kişi oldu.

Tiyatro salonu sayısı 2022-2023 sezonunda 808 olduğu ülke genelinde tiyatro salonu koltuk sayısı ise 326 bin 713 olarak verilere yansıdı. Sezonda tiyatro seyirci sayısı yüzde 15,2 artarak 6 milyon 279 bin 512 oldu. Tiyatro salonlarında oynanan eser sayısı geçen sezona göre yüzde 1,7 azalırken, tiyatroda çeviri eser seyirci sayısı yüzde 37,5 artarak 1 milyon 726 bin 3 oldu. Telif eser seyirci sayısı geçen sezona göre yüzde 8,5 artarak 4 milyon 553 bin 509 oldu. Yine sezon boyunca tiyatro salonlarında oynanan çocuk eseri gösteri sayısı yüzde 20,2 artış kaydetti.

 OPERA VE BALE SEYİRCİ SAYISI YÜZDE 30,2 ARTTI   Türkiye’de 2022-2023 sezonunda 6 ilde Devlet Opera ve Balesi Genel Müdürlüğü’ne bağlı salonlarda opera ve bale gösterisi yapıldı. Opera ve bale seyirci sayısı bir önceki sezona göre yüzde 30,2 artarken, gösteri sayısı yüzde 15,0 azaldı.

Güzel Sanatlar Genel Müdürlüğü’ne bağlı 6 orkestra, 11 koro ve 10 topluluğun faaliyet gösterdiği ülke genelinde orkestra, koro ve topluluklarda seyirci sayısı yüzde 47,1 artarak 266 bin 23 oldu.

Orkestra seyirci sayısı geçen sezona göre yüzde 62,3 artarken, koro seyirci sayısı yüzde 19,7 azaldı, topluluk seyirci sayısı ise yüzde 143,7 artarak 76 bin 479 oldu.

Propers of Tuesday Feria and Commemoration of St. Boniface

Now for the commemoration:

St. Boniface! What can I say about him? A Benedictine monk turned bishop, the man who chopped down Donar's sacred tree during worship*, Apostle to the Germans, and Martyr at the hands of the Germans. He sowed the seeds of Christendom for the central Germans, though sadly not enough took heed of him before he was martyred.

He was born Wynfreth some time in the late 600s, though the specific date is unknown (I know Wikipedia says it was circa 675, but other sources say it's simply unknown). He attended a Benedictine monastery in what is now Exeter, Devon. In 716, he had the opportunity to become Abbot, but declined and went to the European mainland to proselytize the Germanic peoples.

In 717, he would go to Rome and be named Boniface by Pope Gregory II, then appointed missionary bishop of of Germania.

* This is a bit misleading on my part, given he didn't fell it on his own. He began chopping and then came a gust of wind strong enough to knock it over (but no report of people getting knocked over, interestingly enough). This miraclulous event, along with the fact that he was not struck down by their gods, amazed the pagan Germans of Hesse, and they converted. The wood of the tree went into the building of a chapel dedicated to Saint Peter in 724. The site is now home to a massive Catholic church in the Romanesque-Gothic style, built in the High to Late Medieval period.

I think the thing that amazes me the most is that people converted with that. It makes sense, seeing nature itself aid a man in felling a god's tree, and for that god to do nothing when you believe him to be rather active in mortal affairs. I think my reason for amazement is just because I imagine nowadays people wouldn't care about any obvious miracle, so I struggle to picture what that must've looked like. The felling of Donar's tree was likely a far safer action than I at first thought, given Frankish settlement nearby providing safety--or vengeance--should anything go awry, which likely contributes to this lack of violent reaction characteristic of other Germans such as the Saxons.

He was martyred in Frisia in 754. He'd converted a crowd of locals and had summoned them for confirmation some time later, but instead was met by bandits and was killed at their hands for any valuables he might have. He'd ordered his armed companions to stand down. A quote from Vita Bonifatii Auctore Willibaldo Presbytero: "Cease fighting. Lay down your arms, for we are told in Scripture not to render evil for evil but to overcome evil by good." The bandits found nothing that they valued.

He is patron to Fulda, Germania, England, and Devon as of 2019.

Symptoms of and Institutional Support for Students with Long COVID in Higher Education

"Since its emergence in December 2019, SARSCoV-2 and the subsequent COVID-19 pandemic have had a significant impact worldwide (CDC, 2022a). As of April 2023, there have been over 104 million cases of COVID-19 and more than 1.1 million deaths in the United States (CDC, 2022b). Emerging research has shown that individuals with previous SARSCoV-2 infections may experience persistent symptoms known as long COVID, which can include cardiac abnormalities, cognitive impairment, fatigue, and other issues (Crook et al., 2021). Still, the long-term risks associated with and the impact of SARS-CoV-2 are not fully clear (Taquet et al., 2022). Hastie et al. (2022) found that approximately 1 in 20 people who were diagnosed with COVID-19 had lingering symptoms associated with long COVID 6 to 18 months following the initial infection.

The COVID-19 pandemic also negatively impacted the educational sector, including higher education (NCES, 2021a). According to NCES (2022), 16% of adults “who had household members planning to take post-secondary classes in fall 2021 reported that all plans to take classes in the fall had been canceled for at least one household member” (para. 1). For those able to return to or enter higher education, many students may now come to campus with long COVID symptoms (Magee & Imad, 2022). Long COVID cases continue to increase within the higher education environment, and disability resource professionals (DRPs) warn that postsecondary institutions must better support this emerging student disability group (Redden, 2021).

Researchers have noted that students with disabilities are less likely to enroll in, persist within, and graduate from postsecondary education (Kutscher & Tuckwiller, 2018; Pingry O’Neill et al., 2012). Currently, there is a lack of research on students with long COVID in higher education, an emerging group of students with disabilities needing support and potential accommodations. Therefore, it is essential to explore how the higher education community supports this group as they enter or return to higher education with this new condition. The symptoms reported by students with long COVID can provide vital information on emerging trends related to support for this population within the higher education environment. The research questions guiding this study were: (a) What long COVID symptoms are students reporting to disability support services? and (b) According to DRPs, how have institutions addressed questions related to supporting students with long COVID?" (pp. 715-716).

İstanbul Havalimanı, Cumhurbaşkanı Erdoğan’ı taşıyan “TC-ANK” isimli uçağın 21 Haziran 2018’deki ilk seferiyle açılmış ve resmi olarak 29 Ekim 2018’de hizmete girmiştir. Bugüne kadar 1 milyon 447 bin 716 uçak İstanbul Havalimanı’nı kullanmıştır. Havalimanı, 210 milyon yolcuya hizmet vermiştir.

İstanbul Havalimanı, 2018 yılında 95 bin 205 yolcu ve 775 uçakla hizmete başlamıştır. 2019 yılında Atatürk Havalimanı’nın da hizmet verdiği ilk çeyrekte 51 milyon 864 bin 499 yolcuyu ağırlamıştır. Kovid-19 salgınının etkisiyle 2020’de 23 milyon 330 bin 411 yolcu ve 185 bin 642 uçak, 2021’de ise 36 milyon 988 bin 67 yolcu ve 280 bin 108 uçak İstanbul Havalimanı’nı kullanmıştır.

İstanbul Havalimanı, salgının etkisini yitirmesiyle birlikte yolcu sayısını hızla artırmıştır. Geçen yıl 64 milyon 289 bin 107 yolcu ve 425 bin 890 uçak havalimanını kullanmıştır. Bu yılın ocak-haziran döneminde ise 33 milyon 265 bin yolcu ve 228 bin 215 uçak İstanbul Havalimanı’nı tercih etmiştir.

Ayrıca, İstanbul Havalimanı 2023 yılında Eurocontrol raporlarına göre Avrupa’daki havalimanları arasında günlük uçuş trafiğindeki yoğunluğuyla birinci sırada yer almıştır. 11 Haziran’da gerçekleşen 1684 uçuşla Avrupa tarihindeki en yüksek günlük uçuş yapılan havalimanı rekorunu kırmıştır. İstanbul Havalimanı aynı zamanda Türkiye sivil havacılığındaki en yüksek günlük yolcu rekoruna da sahiptir, 23 Nisan Pazar günü 1548 uçuşla 244 bin 709 yolcuya hizmet vermiştir.

The Impact of the US-Mexico-Canada Agreement on ASEAN Trade Relations

Amid the evolving global trade landscape, the US-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA) emerged as a significant development that replaced the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) in 2020. This article delves into the possible ramifications of the USMCA on trade relations with the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and explores the potential challenges and opportunities for the region.

USMCA, often dubbed NAFTA 2.0, is designed to create more balanced trade between the three North American countries, incorporating provisions for digital trade, environmental standards, and labor rights. As the United States diversifies its supply chains to reduce reliance on China, ASEAN stands to benefit from increased investment and trade with North America. However, the USMCA could also exert a competitive pressure on ASEAN countries, given its emphasis on regional content requirements and strict labor provisions.

There are several aspects of the USMCA that could influence ASEAN trade relations. First, the agreement’s provisions on digital trade could inspire similar provisions in future trade agreements with ASEAN countries (Ciuriak & Xiao, 2020). As the digital economy continues to expand, especially amid the COVID-19 pandemic, ASEAN countries need to adapt their trade policies to remain competitive in the digital era.

Second, the USMCA’s emphasis on environmental standards and labor rights presents both challenges and opportunities for ASEAN (Villarreal & Fergusson, 2019). While adhering to higher environmental and labor standards may require reforms and additional costs for ASEAN countries, it could also improve their competitiveness by attracting more environmentally and socially conscious investors.

Third, the USMCA’s regional content requirements, particularly in the automotive sector, could alter global value chains, potentially affecting ASEAN countries’ participation in these chains (Ciuriak & Xiao, 2020). The stricter rules of origin may lead to the reshoring of production to North America, but could also create opportunities for ASEAN countries to attract investment in specific industries where they have a comparative advantage.

In conclusion, the USMCA’s impact on ASEAN trade relations is multifaceted, presenting both challenges and opportunities for the region. As the global trade landscape continues to evolve, it is essential for ASEAN countries to adapt to these changes and capitalize on new opportunities in order to maintain their competitiveness in the international market.
