It would solve so many problems. Maybe Amy does end up with her weird little three episode crush on the Doctor, but then there's the Second Rose and Amy goes "oh. oops." And moves on! Without the really weird intervention of a "dream lord." River Song nonsense drama? Second Rose and Eleventh Doctor exchange a look of "What the fuck was that about?" and move on.
Clara needs someone to pose as her boyfriend? Second Rose thinks it's hilarious and volunteers the Eleven, like yeah sure he hates this stuff, it'll be a riot. Eleven gets a god complex? Second Rose is soon to follow because regeneration probably does a number on a human mind, even one that was capable of going through All Of That.
She and Bill get along great, maybe we're on the Third Rose now, she regenerated before Eleven, and she's older, and finds it hysterical because he's always been older than her, every time, and then when Eleven regenerates and Twelve is older than Rose again he acts like he won and then "....wait. No, I didn't' want to win this game."
And it all works because even as a couple, they're still just Like That. They're friends. They're best friends. Hand holding and hugs aside, they still don't ever kiss on screen. It's a running gag that we never heard the Doctor say he loves her. It's implied, and implied that Rose has heard it, that others have, but we sure never do. We have finally gotten rid of unnecessary romantic subplots.
Fourth Rose is a handsome ginger man and Thirteen is furious, "What you only like women?"
"Where have you been? No, THIRTEEN regenerations and I have never once been ginger, and YOU get it on your FOURTH go. That's not fair!" (Maybe Rose goes by Ross or Rob or something, and the Doctor gets to say something stupid about a Rose by any other name, and Fourth Rose: "that was a bad line even for you."). When Jack runs into them he assumes Rose is the Doctor and vice versa, until he tries to flirt with someone and Thirteen is the one to tell him to stop while Fourth Rose laughs, which is how he figures it out.
Fifth Rose is when we'd beg for Billie to come back for the 60th. Something happens to take down both her and Thirteen and they regenerate around the same moment, and see each other like "What YOUR FACE!" "Is it bad?!!" "No but it's...! "OH MY GOD YOU!!!!" "Doctor, how often does this happen???" "NEVER????" "We couldn't get your Ninth face back? I miss that face." "I'd be jealous of myself if I didn't already have a headache."
I'm just saying, if taking on the Vortex could have granted Rose the ability to regenerate, they could have used that to let Billie step out of the limelight like she wanted, and Rose could have stayed as a character. Maybe she isn't there all the time, but she exists which is a fantastic way to axe any and all future romantic drama on the show.
#60th episode is when we finally get a 14/5th Rose kiss but it's literally like one second long yet fans lose their minds over it#there's an evil gag at the end of one of the episodes where Rose does something heroic and 14 looks all proud 'Rose Tyler I--' and then#something in the background of the Tardis explodes and Donna ''I didn't spill anything this time!!!!''#AND ROSE GETS TO BRING ON COMPANIONS#she's the one that finds the fam during Chimball's season#and the Doctor is wary at first at this many guests but#it's been much harder for Rose to not have a family around#so she's fine with it#also Rose is the one that gets really close with all of them like Eleven did with the Ponds#and I cannot stress this enough: they're explicitly a couple but there's not a ton of romance#we are here for the silly scifi not the 5th human in five years to decide they're in love with the title character bite me its a stupid tro#e. and it only worked that first time around. i'm so glad that the 60th finally made it clear that there was no one else#that sarah jane and rose were different#anyway#rose tyler#dw
