I'm Just Not Well
Warnings: rescue, captivity, torture, broken bones, blood, bruises, hurt/aftermath, hurt/recovery, hospital
"Whumpee, you gotta talk to me, please," Caretaker said as they sat in the back of the ambulance with Whumpee.
Whumpee's skin was mottled with bruises in various stages of healing--some deep purple almost black, some red and swollen, while others had taken an almost blue green tint as they healed. Their collar bone was clearly broken. Blood had dried in their matted hair, clotted on their split eyebrow, and had dried on other parts of their body that was visible.
They sat quietly on the gurney, responding only to a few questions asked by the EMT. Their voice was low and hoarse. Clearly they had been screaming from days. They stared out with a hollow look in their one not swollen shut eye.
"Whumpee?" Caretaker tried again.
"I'm alive," they croaked, "I'm just not well."
Caretaker's heart sunk. They had hoped Whumpee would open up a little bit more to them. "Do you want to talk about it?"
Whumpee closed their one good eye and leaned back on the gurney. "There's nothing else to tell you, Caretaker. I'm alive."
Caretaker opened their mouth and closed it. Clearly Whumpee wasn't ready to talk about whatever horrors they had endured at Whumper's hands. "Well, I'm here if you ever want or need to talk, Whumpee."
Whumpee nodded, but didn't say anything. They kept their eye closed, their body swaying with the motion of the ambulance speeding down the city streets.
"We'll be at the hospital soon, Whumpee. You're going to be ok," Caretaker said, hoping that their words were true and Whumpee would be ok.

7.) Answer - say or write something to deal with or as a reaction to someone or something.
questioning, pondering, wondering, we're lost. sending out signals endlessly. Day after day we're stuck sending out the S.O.S. with no awnser.
Where did it go wrong? No answer.
What do we do? No answer.
Will we find earth again? N o a n s w e r...
We're stuck out here floating in this advanced nothingness with nothing so imagine my surprise when we finaly get a signal back
D o y o u f e a r t h e s t a r s ?
Now... how do we answer that??

Day Three: Riddle
31 Days of Horror prompt list
Considerations must be made to make sure it can be solved. There is no fun if it cannot be solved. There is no true challenge if there is no answer in the end. They know this. So they set everything up in a way where if you think, really think, then you can figure out what they are going for.
Of course, no one actually takes the time to think. Which is more frustrating than they would ever care to admit. They want these people to think, to prove that they are more than just the common rabble that wanders the streets, barely moving from one day to the next, but everyone has failed them. Every single one has proven that every person who even so much as glances their way has no real worth. Not a single person has deserved to make it out.
So the reset the space day after day, make sure that it is ready for anyone who might end up coming through the door and they try again. Set the puzzles, go over the riddles, make sure that there is nothing that could actually stop someone from opening the door and being able to go home to whatever they decide to call a family. Everything is perfect time and time again and yet people keep failing. People keep showing them that humanity has failed. That they are the only one worthy.
And still every time they get their hopes up. Think that maybe this time, this one plucked from a crowd, would show that they were actually wrong about it all. They watch with keen eyes to see if maybe, just maybe, this one might be the one. They watch with a smile that will always fall as the newest one panics, wastes time, falls for the false leads, resorts to groveling, until the time runs out and the subject must be replaced.
Until they must try again.
Until the puzzle is solved.

Inktober Day 5: Map
Tumblr media
My favourite part of Disney’s 2002 animated feature Treasure Planet is its main song, aptly titled “Jim’s Theme”. It is, however, one of my sister’s favourite Disney movies (although according to people who have a living memory of the early 2000s, I too used to watch this movie on repeat). When I thought about writing this prompt, I felt incredibly stuck. I remember very little of the plot of Treasure Planet, and I had no ideas for crafting a narrative on Jim’s holographic puzzle map. So to get in the mindspace, I put “Jim’s Theme” on repeat. At time of writing I am on my sixth listen to the song, and after hearing the lyrics repeated 6 times, I started thinking about how to conceptualize a map. In Treasure Island, the map is Jim’s call to action, it is what gets him going on the adventure of the film. It is, more than anything, a plot device. But that’s boring, so I thought, what else could it be? What’s a better argument? What if the map is a metaphor for Jim’s character. Someone that neither his mother nor Dr. Delbert Doppler could unlock or understand. “Jim’s Theme” encapsulates this mentality through its opening lyrics “I am a question to the world / Not an answer to be heard” and later, “you don't know me.”  In this essay I will…
Maybe this is something that every film critic since the movie came out has spoken about, but I thought it was a really interesting comparison. If the physical map is Jim, how does that affect his reading of his journey? Is there a reading of his character as overcoming objectification (in the sense that he is seen as a helpful tool to accomplish work (much like B.E.N.))? Could one argue that he is meant only to be understood by the youth, similar to his ability to figure out the map that had puzzled Dr. Doppler.
Ps. It took me approximately 11 loops of this song to finish this little blurb.
All art by @cool_beans_jw on insta. Writing by her weird sister, who is in midterms, and begs your indulgence as she hasn’t slept in like 3 days.

Short Prompt #20
The creature unfurled it’s dark, fleshy wings, beating a wave of damp cave air over the explorers.
“Is th-that a vampire?” one said taking a step back.
“Vampires can transform entirely into a bat,” the other said following suit. “No bits and pieces. That’s for demons. …And that thing only has bat wings.”

31 prompts for October:Horror
Day 30: Dark forest
It was a dark and stormy night. Jake and his friends had decided to go camping in the woods, despite the warnings of the locals. They said that the forest was haunted by an evil spirit that preyed on anyone who entered its domain. Jake didn’t believe in such superstitions, and he wanted to prove his bravery to his friends.
They set up their tents near a clearing, and lit a fire to keep warm. They roasted marshmallows and told scary stories, laughing and joking around. Jake felt a surge of confidence, and he decided to take a walk in the woods. He grabbed a flashlight and told his friends he would be back soon.
He ventured into the darkness, following a narrow path that led deeper into the forest. He felt a thrill of excitement, as he imagined himself as an explorer in a mysterious land. He ignored the sounds of the wind and the rain, and the occasional rustle of leaves. He was not afraid of anything.
He walked for about ten minutes, until he reached a fork in the road. He had to choose between two paths: one that seemed to go uphill, and one that seemed to go downhill. He decided to take the downhill path, thinking it would be easier and faster. He turned left and continued his walk.
He soon realized that he had made a mistake. The path became steeper and narrower, and he had to watch his step to avoid slipping on the wet ground. The trees became denser and darker, blocking out any light from the sky. He felt a chill in the air, and he shivered. He wished he had brought his jacket.
He tried to turn back, but he couldn’t find the fork in the road. He was lost. He panicked, and he started to run. He hoped to find his way back to the campsite, or at least to the main road. He ran blindly, dodging branches and roots that seemed to reach out for him.
He ran until he stumbled upon a clearing. He stopped, panting and sweating. He looked around, hoping to see a sign of civilization. But all he saw was a large wooden cabin in the middle of the clearing. It looked old and abandoned, with broken windows and a sagging roof. It gave him an eerie feeling.
He wondered if anyone lived there, or if it was just a shelter for hunters or hikers. He thought about knocking on the door, or looking for a phone or a radio inside. Maybe he could get some help, or at least some directions.
But before he could make up his mind, he heard a loud roar from behind him. He turned around, and he saw a huge creature emerge from the trees. It looked like a wolf, but bigger and stronger. It had black fur, red eyes, and sharp teeth. It snarled at him, drooling and growling.
Jake screamed, and he ran towards the cabin. He hoped to find a way in, or at least something to defend himself with. But as he reached the door, he realized it was locked. He tried to kick it open, but it was too sturdy. He looked for another entrance, but there was none.
He was trapped.
The creature followed him, slowly and steadily. It seemed to enjoy playing with its prey, like a cat with a mouse. It circled around him, cutting off any escape route. It taunted him with its roars and snarls.
Jake felt a surge of fear, and he begged for mercy.
“Please, don’t kill me! Please!”
But the creature didn’t listen.
It lunged at him, biting his neck.
Jake felt a sharp pain, followed by numbness.
He fell to the ground, bleeding profusely.
He saw the creature’s face above him, smiling wickedly.
It whispered in his ear:
“Welcome to my forest.”

Whumptober day 11 prompt: Captivity
Character: Xavier Age: 24
Xavier leaned his head on the bars keeping him caged within the small room that is now his own “home,” for however long his captors wished to keep him alive. He glanced around his cell, if not for the lone mattress by the corner, it would be completely empty. He surveyed the outside, what little he can see from his position.
Guards stationed beside each cell, prisoners young, old, and ones he knows. Some were crying, others were still unconscious, the rest were quiet, like him. Throat dry and body numb, with his hope destroyed defeat was the only thing left to accept. A needless war that spanned for years, no matter how hard he fought alongside his brothers in arms, it was useless. Completely useless. Scars and wounds sustained from such a battle meant nothing, it wasn't glory, it was an ugly reminder of the many lives he had taken.
He looked down at himself, clothes tattered and worn, several wounds littered across his body, stained with a mixture of his own blood and others', from his own allies to his enemies. Death is surely a mercy he didn't deserve.
Xavier heard footsteps coming near, saw a figure at the corner of his eye, yet he didn't turn his head to look.
“Not even a greeting? How cold.” The person on the other side of the bars spoke. “Even after I went through the trouble of getting you this?”
A tray with soup, bread, and a glass of water was pushed in through the small opening at the bottom. There was still steam coming off of the soup and water.
“What's your goal?” His voice was hoarse, it was hard to speak, but that didn't matter to him anymore. Nothing did.
“That's a surprise. Wouldn't want to ruin it now.”
Xavier let out a quiet sigh. What a predictable surprise then.
“Oh, and since I'm in such a good mood. I'd even let you send your last words to your loved ones. How nice of me, right?”
“No need.” No one will look for me anyway.
“Huh… Well, enjoy your first and last night in there then. Sleep well, soldier.”
For the first time in a while, Xavier chuckled bitterly.

🤍🤍🤍
Day 5 asks us to write about: “Describe what solitude is to you.”
This past week, we have journaled about loneliness, aloneness, and solitude. Today, we are just journaling about solitude and being alone.
Referring back to the other journal entries that asked you what you thought about loneliness and solitude, we will use our existing ideas to break down further and introduce solitude to us.
Do you remember a time when you gave up? You finally accepted something for what it is, despite your hopes for the latter. How did it feel to accept something in its authenticity?
Was there ever a time you realized something so small actually had a significant impact on you and your current mindset? How was that shift?
Have you ever sat with yourself and thought, “I am not perfect”? Did you ever just sit with all your flaws, imperfections, things you wish to change, and your mean thoughts? How was that moment?
Authenticity and Realization are two of the few components that make up our awareness and perception of the world.
If you can accept and acknowledge it, you can be content with your being.
♡♡♡
Thank you for journaling with us & joining this #JournalChallenge and our #journalcommunity 🤗

4.) Chance - a possibility of something happening or the occurrence and development of events in the absence of any obvious design
Roll thoes dice, spin that wheel. snake eyes, cash prize, dead lies. Welcome to paradise, we hope you like your stay because I don't think you're ever leaving. To become a member of paradise you have to sign a waiver, a simple thing really, just sign here on the dotted line-yeah just like that- good, good... now, im glad you didnt read the fine print, who wants to anyway? Its so ity bity.
Its always so fun to watch them sign away their souls, like a moth to a torch, a chance to win, some flashing lights, money on the line~
Who woulden't want to be here? Go on, now's your chance to play.
OH!! oh so close!! Go on.. spin again... yes just like that. What? Youre done already??? But you didnt even play cards, oh come on, play with me, just a few rounds~
Like a moth to a torch they burn away. They play and play and play and they lose and they lose and they lose. Look at them, its almost cute how they think they have a chance to win.
