Taylor was inspired to write “Love Story” when she was going through a difficult situation with a boy she liked, whom she wasn’t “officially” dating. She chose to portray the story of Romeo and Juliet in the song, because she felt like she could relate. The lyrics talk about disapproval against the relationship, and her desire to go somewhere far away with him, and escape the people who look down on them. “Love Story” peaked at #1 on Billboard’s Hot Country Songs, and at #5 on the Billboard Hot 100, just weeks after its release. The song’s music video was described as timeless, by Swift. The video won the CMT Music Awards for “Video of the Year,” as well as “Female Video of the Year.” In February 2021, “Love Story” became the first official re-release from Taylor’s back catalog following contractual disputes with Scooter Braun. “I Was Born to Love You” is a 1985 song by Freddie Mercury, and was released as a single and on the Mr. Bad Guy album. After Mercury’s death, Queen re-worked this song for their album Made in Heaven in 1995, by having the other members play their instrumental parts over the original track transforming the song from a disco song to a rock song. The Queen version from the Made in Heaven album also includes samples of Mercury’s ad-lib vocals taken from “A Kind of Magic” and from “Living On My Own”.

Love Story - Taylor Swift (2009)

Taylor was inspired to write “Love Story” when she was going through a difficult situation with a boy she liked, whom she wasn’t “officially” dating. The song has been rumored to be about two singers – the first being Joe Jonas, since it was recorded in March of 2008, just a few months before she began actually dating him. Other songs such as “Forever & Always” and “Last Kiss” are more explicitly about him.

The second rumored subject of the song is Boys Like Girls front-man, Martin Johnson whom Swift had a brief fling with in 2008 and collaborated with to pen the band’s track “Two is Better Than One” and Taylor’s song “If This Was a Movie”. This is a fitting match for the “star-crossed lovers” theme of the song as sources claimed that although the pair were into each other, Taylor’s publicists felt he was not a good match for her “American sweetheart” image – with him being a punk rocker who was going through personal issues at the time.

She chose to portray the story of Romeo and Juliet in the song, because she felt like she could relate.

I used to be in high school where you see [a boyfriend] every day. Then I was in a situation where it wasn’t so easy for me, and I wrote this song because I could relate to the whole Romeo and Juliet thing.

They mentioned Halsey owed her label money. Pretty sure Lambert does too. Article mentioned doesn’t stream well and ml saw “diminishing returns with each release “. She averages 8,000 per show (solo/co-Headline). Last show 2022 (not including Vegas). Last solo tour 2020. She isn’t raking in the money on her music now. She’s Marion’s bread and butter. Carly Pearce and Gwen Stefani's "Just a Girl" moment was a long time coming! The duo joined forces to perform No Doubt's iconic 1995 single at the CMT Music Awards on Sunday in Austin, Texas, with Pearce gushing over the bond they share earlier that night on the red carpet. 

"I love her," Pearce, who recently opened for Blake Shelton on his Back to the Honky Tonk Tour, said of the pop star. "I've gotten to know her pretty well being on tour with Blake and she just is a true fan of songwriting, just like me. Just to be able to come together and have a real moment with somebody that you've gotten to know -- it's not just a collaboration out of nowhere -- it's going to be fun."

Stefani has embraced the country music community since she began dating Shelton back in 2015. The pair tied the knot on July 3, 2021 on Shelton's Oklahoma ranch in a chapel built specifically for the occasion. 

Sunday's CMT Music Awards served as a stylish date night for the couple, marking the first time they have ever attended the event together. 

"She comes to life as the icon that we know when the microphone is in front of her, but she's very normal," Pearce said of Stefani. "I can see why she and Blake fell in love, because she's very normal." 

"They are hilarious," she added. 

As for whether Pearce and Stefani could keep the collaborations coming with a studio project, the "What He Didn't Do" singer says she'd "do it anytime, for sure."

Dierks Bentley: 9/14/24 “It was my second time seeing Grammy nominated, ACM, CMA, CMT winner and Opry member Frederick Dierks Bentley 48 from Phoenix Arizona LIVE. The first was at the Blind Horse Saloon during the ‘Beers On Me Tour’ in 2021 toward the tail end of the pandemic where Bentley packed 2,000 maskless fans into the tiny Greenville venue. The weather was perfect for an evening featuring full sets by three Country Music artists, Hurricane Francine having since past with its remnants remaining stalled over Memphis. I had entered a contest on Bentley’s Facebook Page back in June granting one winner a pair of tickets. On August 30th I received an email that I was the solo winner out of 167,180 entries and to claim my seats at will call under the artist’s guest list. The 31-stop ‘Gravel And Gold Tour’ which began in Fort Worth and ends in Milwaukee made its 28th stop at Simpsonville’s outdoor amphitheater. The tour is Bentley’s 16th major tour and brings with it all the bells and whistles with a 6-man band and 55 crew members. With 10 albums in his 23-year career with 41 charted singles including 18 #1s, the headliner’s set list was bound to deliver all the favorites. Arriving early I stood just outside the gates to hear the VIP Pre-Show acoustic mini-set. Upon entry and claiming my 10th row center seat I walked up to take in a close-up of the stage. The stage featured an E-shaped rear riser featuring a center ramp and two end ramps ending in sets of stairs. A small pit separated the reserve seating from the stage. 100+ lights enclosed the stage on the top and sides. The drumhead featured the tour logo ‘DIERKS BENTLEY GRAVEL & GOLD 2024 TOUR’ as well as the translucent video wall in the forefront. At 6:56 p.m. the stage lights illuminated as the first opener Tanner Usrey and his 4-man band took to the stage to the recorded sounds of Guns N’ Roses ‘Welcome To The Jungle’. It was my second time in 8 days seeing Tanner perform LIVE, the first was in Columbia with Koe Wetzel. Beginning with ‘Blackberry Wine’ from the Twisters Movie Soundtrack the Country/Southern Rock/Americana singer from Prosper Texas was off to a 30 minute / 6 song set. ‘My name’s Tanner Usrey from Texas, thanks for being here.’ Usrey drew the majority of his material from his lone studio album ‘Crossing Lines’ 2023 released on Atlantic Records. The set unlike Columbia’s which featured a cover of Rod Stewart’s Faces ’Stay With Me’ ended with a rousing version of Fleetwood Mac’s ‘The Chain’. Tanner quit his job in 2019 starting off all on his own pounding the pavement for gigs and put 100K on his van in the first year and a half. He’s certainly paid his dues and has proven to be a worthy opener for the likes of Dierks and Koe! After a rather quick stage turn the lights went down to the recorded sounds of Ed Sheeran’s ‘BLOW’. A LB logo designed to look like a Lee jeans back pocket patch appeared on the video wall and two smaller screens to the left and the right illuminated to follow the LIVE action footage. ACM and CMA award winning Singer/Songwriter Kenneth Mobley Brice Jr 45 from Sumter South Carolina with 5 studio albums with 21 singles including 8 #1s took the stage for a 1 hour / 10 song set. Besides his own material, he has also co-written singles for artists like Garth Brooks, Tim McGraw and the Eli Young Band. His ‘More Than a Memory’ recorded by Brooks became the first song ever to debut at number one. Beginning with ‘Soul’ a top 20 hit from 2021 we were off to an evening of all-charted singles. Lee wearing a WAYLON cap and guitar strap which read ‘Words Fail Music Speaks’ quickly won over his home State crowd. ‘It is so hood to be back in my home state!’ The set featured a total of 6 number ones including ‘I Don't Dance’ ‘Hard To Love’, ‘I Drive Your Truck’ dedicated to our military and first responders, ‘Rumor’, and ‘One Of Them Girls’. The sixth was ‘I Hope You're Happy Now’ a number one for Carly Pearce which she invited him to sing with her. ‘If y’all know it I’m gonna need you girls to maybe take care of her part cause I can’t exactly fold her up and put her in my back pocket and take her around the country with me.’ Brice was both tough and tender. One of the more tender moments were when he utilized the video screens to backlight his silhouette looking toward the audience as the amphitheater illuminated with cell phone lights. Another was his solo piano work on ‘I Don’t Dance’ exclaiming, ‘What a beautiful night y’all, come on.’ Mid-set Brice switched guitars, his strap in Clemson orange and purple revealing his football number ’55’. Lee attended Clemson University on a football scholarship. He played special teams there as the long snapper, but after an arm injury, he decided to focus on a country music career. Brice has come full circle playing a full set of all hits in his home state, a great evening for the local performer achieving stardom status. A half hour stage turn uncluttered the stage set leaving only Bentley’s equipment and amps in the forefront. At 9:11 p.m. the lights went dark as the lights lit up all red, the sounds of a plucking banjo made the mood complete. The center of the video wall opened up in all white light as Dierks made his appearance slowly walking down the ramp and taking his rightful place front and center. Beginning with ‘Gold’ the only song from the latest release bearing the tour’s name Dierks was off and running to an hour and thirty-five minute / 18 song set. It’s lyrics ‘I got some rust on my Chevy but it's ready to roll’ sent a clear message that the artist was speaking of himself metaphorically. The next song ‘Lot Of Leavin Left To Do’ with a dueling acoustic guitar match with Ben Helson continued the irony. ‘How we doin tonight Greenville? Simpsonville, I guess is the new hot spot in Greenville.’ In ‘I Hold On’ Bentley held up and kissed ‘this here flat top guitar’. He swapped out the lyrics, ‘singing every country song’ to ‘singing every Lee Brice song’ and challenged the audience to sing their loudest to the song’s chorus. He paused to honor his VIPS in attendance, his Aunt Barbie, his friend George, and his banjo player’s daughter Sidney. ‘I got family in the front row, it’s a big show.’. ’To get this party up to the next level, I’m gonna have to trade this instrument for my preferred instrument where I do my best work.’ “Nobody plays the red solo cup like I do.’ The song was ‘Am I The Only One’ with a mash of Toby Keith’s ‘Red Solo Cup’. 16 keg shaped mini-video screens made the song come alive. Bentley called for a beer shot-gunning contest choosing a representative from each side of the audience, one male and one female. Turning over the discarded cans, the man was the clear winner as he drained the remaining contents of each to the floor of the stage. ‘It’s 2024 everybody gets a medal’ he determined! The hits rolled on, ‘Living’ and ‘Say You Do’ a pair of number ones, and ‘Burning Man’ and ‘Gone’ a pair of number twos. ‘Do you guys like the blue-grassy more country stuff?’ Bentley asked as he positioned banjo and fiddle to his left and guitar and bass to his right. His cover of Tom Petty’s ‘American Girl’ which he recently recorded for the country tribute album ‘Petty Country’ would determine the answer to the question. The sole answer only spoke to who the American Girl was, not the style of music, ’I’m pretty sure she’s a South Carolina Girl!’ ‘Black’ was performed behind a special effect video wall, and ‘Up On The Ridge’ mashed in New Grass Revival’s ‘Callin' Baton Rouge’. Charlie Worsham (former Old Crow Medicine Show) took the lead, and the band took over the spotlight leaving Dierks in the dark. Dirks called for a humbs up or thumbs down vote between him and the band, then introduced them one by one. Likening the all-Nashville band to the 6 players of a hockey team there was Charlie Worsham on guitar and mandolin; CMA Fiddle Player Of The Year Dan Hochhalter on guitar and fiddle; Tim Sergent on 5-string banjo, pedal steel, lap steel, and dobro; team goalie Steve Misamore on drums; and Cassady Feasby on bass. Bentley introduced himself as the obvious team’s center. A trio of number ones ended the regular set, ‘5-1-5-0’, ‘Somewhere On A Beach’ and ‘What Was I Thinkin’ his first #1 released back in 2003. A mash-up of ‘Beers On Me’ was interwoven. As road attendants tossed cans of Bud Lites from the wings Dierks caught them all one-handed without dropping a single one and tossed them out to folks in the front row of the pit for a toast. Thanking the crowd, he exited the stage leaving the lights dimmed obviously for an encore. The stage lights brightened to all blue as Bentley reappeared dressed in an airline captain’s hat and jacket with aviator glasses. Taking his place a top a on a scissor-riser center stage with a backdrop of an airplane’s cockpit and instrument panel he performed ‘Drunk On A Plane’ tossing out Mardi Gras beads into the audience. Exiting the stage the second time the band reappeared entering from the center of the video wall resembling the side door of a van as their alter egos ‘Hot Country Knights’. Dressed in colorful 90’s clothing, tight jeans and wearing wigs, dancing about with a headless bass and keytar as instruments they performed a medley of all 90’s covers [.T-R-O-U-B-L-E / I Like It, I Love It / Meet In the Middle / Little Rock / Heads Carolina, Tails California / Achy Breaky Heart / Man I Feel Like a Woman / Friends in Low Places]. The over-the top ending brought down the house leaving folks in all smiles and laughter as we exited the venue back to the future with a renewed sense of hope drawn from our past!” Review and photo by DAve (Concerts #928-930)

CMT Awards 2023: Ratings UP 5%

Many believe that award shows such as the Oscars and Grammy’s are on their way out. Award shows haven’t managed to garner the same attention they previously had. In recent years, there has been an attempt to move award shows to streaming platforms to boost viewership numbers. This has been an essential incorporation as streaming becomes increasingly more popular amongst audience members. 

The Country Music Television (CMT) Awards are benefiting from this move. Historically, the CMT Awards aired on Paramount’s cable channel Country Music Television. Since 2022, the award show has premiered jointly on CBS and Paramount +. This decision has greatly increased the number of viewers. From 2021 to 2022 the award show viewership rate increased by 521%. This year the audience broke record numbers with the highest viewership rate to date. 

There was a 5% increase from 2022 and a total of 5.68 million viewers from both Paramount + and the CBS channel. Additionally, the CMT Awards were the most streamed event that night on both Paramount+ and social media. The live stream viewership rate on Paramount+ jumped 16% from previous years. Increasing the number of impressions to 2.6 billion from 2.5 billion which is about a million more interactions. A Paramount spokesperson made a statement on how this partnership has opened the door for future Paramount ventures. They want to continue maximizing their biggest award shows to the largest audience possible, such as the Grammy’s and Tony’s. 

Streaming companies such as Hulu are investing a large amount of resources to be at the forefront of streaming x live events. They are currently dominating the field in that aspect. Through Hulu, one can watch a multitude of award shows and sporting events. Certain award shows have begun streaming exclusively on streaming platforms. For instance, the Academy of Country Music (ACM) Awards streams exclusively on Amazon Prime Video. As streaming and live events collaborations continue to be beneficial for streaming companies, it will be interesting to see how the field continues to change and if companies will begin to monopolize certain niches of live entertainment.

Kane Brown grew up in Chattanooga, Tennessee. Kane Brown went to three different high schools: Soddy Daisy High School, Red Bank High School, and Lakeview-Fort Oglethorpe High. Kane married Katelyn Jae Brown in 2018 and has had two children. Kingsley Rose Brown, born in October 2019, and Kodi Jane Brown, born in December 2021.

Brown grew up listening to country music but became interested in R&B music in middle school.  Kane Brown began posting videos of his covers of songs by Brantley Gilbert, Billy Currington, Alan Jackson, and other singers. He acquired a following for his videos on Facebook. Kane Brown's first Album was called "Thunder in the Rain '' and "What Ifs' '. His first song was called "Used to Love You Sober". In 2018 Kane brown won Favorite Male Artist - Country,  Favorite Album - Country, Favorite Song - Country. In 2019 he won Favorite Male Artist - Country and in 2020 Kane Brown won Favorite Male Artist - Country.

On Friday, September 9th he released his newest album called “Different Man”. His third album shows off his gift for mixing classic country with less expected sounds. Kane Brown at 28 has won four American Music Awards, two CMT Music Awards and one ACM Award. Be a good person. “The best person you can be”.  A few years after signing his first record deal the rising star from Georgia auditioned for TV competitions American Idol and The X Factor. He didn’t make it past round one of American Idol.

“I See the Light” is a romantic duet in Tangled between Rapunzel and Eugene. It is sung when Rapunzel is finally achieving her lifelong dream to see the floating lanterns. The song was nominated for best song at the 83rd academy awards but lost to “We Belong Together” from Toy Story 3. “I See The Light” was originally called “You Are My Forever,” and was a reprise of a song Mother Gothel sung to Rapunzel, before being removed. After “You Are My Forever” was removed, the song was still different from what it was in the finished film. It was an anthem-like song at first but Alan Menken decided it should be more gentle.

Taylor was inspired to write “Love Story” when she was going through a difficult situation with a boy she liked, whom she wasn’t “officially” dating. She chose to portray the story of Romeo and Juliet in the song, because she felt like she could relate. The lyrics talk about disapproval against the relationship, and her desire to go somewhere far away with him, and escape the people who look down on them. “Love Story” peaked at #1 on Billboard’s Hot Country Songs, and at #5 on the Billboard Hot 100, just weeks after its release. Artists Of The Year 2022 Presented By MSR

So today I will be my annual Artist of the Year for the year 2022 presented by MSR (Midnight Star Report). We have been doing this since 2018. This year there are 10 artists in Country Music we will be talking about their year. So let's get started right now.

The first of the 10 artists that we will talk about for this year's honor is Kenny Chesney. This is Kenny Chesney 1st time being named one of my artist of the year. Kenny Chesney had a perfect swan song for the end of his career with "Knowing you" which topped the list 3 times total. But then there was a song with Kelsea Ballerini titled "half of my hometown" which topped the charts 3 times total. Up next we will talk about the year for the next Artist of the year for 2022 in Jimmie Allen.

Jimmie Allen had released a lot of music in 2022. I did 2 CD reviews for him in 2022 and this is Jimmie Allen's first artist of the year on my list. Jimmie Allen teamed up with Brad Paisley on a track "Freedom was a highway" which topped the charts 3 times total. And most recently Jimmie Ended the with "Down home" being the final regular number 1 for CMT (Country Music Television) and gaining another time at the top on the charts for a total of 2 times. And that is at the time of writing this which gives Jimmie Allen a total of 5 times at the top. The next artist of the year for 2022 that we will talk about is Miranda Lambert.

Miranda Lambert had a good year in 2022 which earned her first ever artist of the year. Miranda Lambert teamed up with Elle King on her track "Drunk (And I don't wanna go home)" which topped the charts 3 times total. Then Miranda's song "If I was a cowboy" CMT kept pushing up their charts which helped Miranda earned her first ever artist of the year on my list. Miranda Lambert had 4 times total at the top. Up next we will talk about one of the special mentions for Artist of the year in 2022 which is Cody Johnson.

Cody Johnson will not be a special mention for artist of the year in 2022. He will be an artist of the year as well. Cody had the song of the year, and in fact on CMT Year-end video Countdown, He has the number 1 video for the year 2022 with the huge hit "'Til you can't". The song topped the charts a total of 8 times and he was the leader until later in the year for total times at the top. I just hope the song isn't too much to overcome when comparing his other singles that he will put out in the future. Up Next we will talk about a 4 time artist of the year in Thomas Rhett.

Thomas Rhett has been an artist of the year on this list in 2018, 2020, 2021, and now 2022. Thomas Rhett topped the charts with a song titled "Slow down Summer" and that was for 1 time total. Thomas teamed up with Riley Green on a song titled "Half of me" which topped the charts a total of 2 times. Thomas Rhett isn't the only Artist to be a 4 time Artist of the year. Let's talk about the year for Luke Combs up next.

Luke Combs has a more quiet year with raising his new kid. But he still made some noises on in the year 2022. Luke has been an artist of the year every year since 2019. So that's 2019 to 2022. Luke first topped the charts this year with a track titled "Doin' this" and that was 3 times total. And then Luke topped the charts this year once again with the track "The kind of love we make" which was 2 times totals. And if you want to hear a version of that song with Riley Green performing it, and he did it on CMT Artist of the Year special 2022. Up next I want to talk about the year for Cole Swindell.

Cole Swindell really took his year up with teaming up with his friend Lainey Wilson on the track "Never say never" and that track topped the charts 6 times total. And then Cole brought in the 90's vibes with his single "She had me at heads Carolina". And he even did a version with Jo dee Messina at the CMA Awards this year. And "She had me at heads Carolina" has topped the charts a total of 6 times and is still going strong today as well. Cole had a total of 12 times topping the charts. And up next let's talk about the 2nd special mention Artist of the year in 2022 which is Mitchell Tenpenny.

Mitchell Tenpenny had a banger of a year in 2022. Mitchell released a new cd titled "This is heavy". Mitchell had 2 songs going towards the top around the same time. The first was with Chris Young titled "At the end of a bar" which topped the charts a total of 2 times. The second was titled "Truth about you" which only topped the charts 1 time. But it has put Mitchell on our radar now. We have 2 artist of the year left before we go. Up next is a 3 time Artist of the year in Kane Brown.

Kane Brown is a 3 time artist of the year 2019, 2020, & now 2022. Kane had a really good year in 2022. Kane released "One Mississippi" off of his new album "Different man" which topped the charts a total of 2 times. But then he brought out the 90's vibes just like Cole on the track "Like I love Country Music" which mentions a lot of our favorite artists. "Like I Love Country Music" topped the charts 5 times total. But if we had 1 artist to sum up this year in 2022 and totally be the artist of the year that would be Morgan Wallen.

Morgan Wallen had a hell of a year in 2022. After everytime that happened in 2021 for this artist. He truly made up for loss time. And with that Morgan earned his second artist of the year in 2022 (The first being in 2019). Morgan first topped the charts with the song "Sand in my boots" which was 3 times total. And he earned his artist of the year with the song "Wasted on you" which topped the charts a total of 7 times. But then he became the artist of the year is 2022 for sure with "You proof" a total of 16 times topping the charts.
