I take back my recent comments that choking is having a moment in cdramas nowadays. This is from years ago and here is choking in glorious technicolor.

It's interesting that he's letting her keep the kid, which is not even a question for a modern person but for someone in his position and his personality just speaks about how obsessed he is. (Interesting question - would they had a greater chance for happiness if she gave birth to a daughter? I don't think so tbh. Ultimately, the deal breaker was he was always a monster intent on ruling in blood and she could not live complicit. But maybe it would have taken longer to reach the breaking point.)

Even if this wasn't Qin Shi Huang but some fictional monarch, censors would never let this drama air now, and if they kept him being QSH, I think they'd rather literally die than release it. Yet this was aired no problem in 2017, on TV no less. What a difference (and not a good one), less than a decade makes.

M: Yuuri and Victor aren't bothered by that, but Yurio kicks people a lot, doesn't he? I think that such hot-headed characters like him are very charming, too. I think I'd like to tell him "You should behave more like an adult", but if he did then he would calm down and his skating wouldn't be as interesting. I think he should perhaps stay the way he is.

-- What has Yuri!!! on ICE become to you?

M: [Working on a] TV series is always hectic. There is a lot of good things, but there is also a lot of hardships. But after the series ends it all becomes a good memory. It's a series that made a strong impact, that took a lot of preparations to make it as genuine as possible, that were invisible to the audience. I'm very happy I could take a part in this project.

For comparison, Yuuri also later had a small article only about him - in Pash! 2017/09 - and the title is something like "Katsukis from Kyushu - The man called Katsuki Yuuri (九州に勝生あり　勝生勇利という男)". They also explicitly use the phrase "virile son of Kyushu" to describe Yuuri in the article, which isn't the most popular phrase to describe him among a certain group of Yuuri's fans (although it is canon - that's what his profile says in the DVD booklet)... Because this phrase is used to describe "masculine men" believing in, lets say, "traditional values" when it comes to gender roles etc. (and we do see a bit of that in the show - eg. Yuuri doesn't help in the onsen and sleeps in while his family works, and in general receives a lot of special treatment compared to Mari - that's how even today in rl a lot of sons are treated in the more conservatives areas, because 男尊女卑 boys >> girls).

hi! i have been deeply charmed by roope/wyatt lately and have read through almost the whole ao3 tag but as someone who doesn't follow the stars super closely i'm having a bit of a hard time finding non-fic content of them. just wondering whether there's a primer anywhere or a ship name/tag to search for? also curious about the basis for the ship in the first place and if it originates from rl interactions or just the imagined Dynamic (which i think is perfect and beautiful). tysm !!!

hi!!!! if you want to talk roopewyatt you'd probably have an easier time chatting with the resident roopewyatt scholar @coffeehound91 since it's not my personal top roope or wyatt ship of choice & so i'm not an Expert.

i think part of the reason you might be having a hard time finding non-fic content for them is that there ........ pretty much isn't any?? much like robotter (see the last ask i answered) roopewyatt is another example of the stars fandom deciding two guys have a potentially interesting vibe & exploring that independent of them putting forward any kind of energy to the ship themselves. it truly is mostly the imagined dynamic!! which is fun!!!

imo part of the fun of that imagined dynamic is that roope is Vet Aged (sort of) but because of the team construction on the stars, not a True Vet; him & wyatt are both kind of on the same level, as guys included in talk of the stars new young core & outsiders in that narrative to the 2017 draft class trio. they've both been seen as part of the group of young guys pavs mentored/was a dad-figure for on the team. you get age difference fun without any real shift in power dynamics. roope is kind of awkward despite seeming cool and wyatt is very self-assured & confident despite seeming awkward. etc etc etc.

there isn't a ship name/tag as far as i'm aware — i know that most of starsblr uses the ship number tagging system if they're posting a lot about a ship (see me using 2129 for robotter for an example) but it doesn't look like there's any original posts for roopewyatt in 2453.

i imagine if the top line the stars started using when they moved pavs down late this past season & into the playoffs (so, wyatt up with robo & roope) sticks in 24-25, you'll see more stuff from them as we get more of a linemate connection going!! though people have already been laying the linemate vibes groundwork down for roboroope. ymmv. but for right now we are all playing in the collective mind sandbox with these two toys from different brands!

personally i think roope's like a collector's edition barbie that got taken out of his box & wyatt's like a calico critter mouse, but that shouldn't stop them from kissing if we want them to.

im working on forgotten hollow rn, which ive calculated was founded in the early 1800s. since vlad was the founder and has been living there for 200 years, ive subtracted that from the year the vampire pack came out (2017). i did that bc thats when vlad first appeared

options for explaining Yuuko's glee over Victor Nikiforov winning the Junior Worlds with the highest score in history:

the 6.0 system was retired earlier in YOIverse than RL, such that there was more than the then-current season's scores for Victor in spring 2005 to beat

the 6.0 system was retired later in YOIverse than RL, such that Victor's 2005 Junior Worlds victory was the last time he skated under the 6.0 system, and he smashed the records on that scoring system's way out

Victor in his last juniors season curbstomped not just all the other juniors but also many if not all of the seniors

now, Yuuri saying Victor at that Junior Worlds had already established himself as the greatest skater in the world might be partly projecting Victor's career as of 2016 onto Victor of 2005, and it probably is partly Yuuri declaring Victor of 2005 the greatest because he's the one Yuuri likes best and never mind if the numbers back this up

and enough history is different that scooting the scoring system change either forward a year or back a year-or-four is the simplest way to resolve this

but!

the required elements for juniors differ from those for seniors!

specifically, in the RL 2004-05 season:

junior men's short programs were required to have a double axel, where seniors needed a double or triple axel

junior SPs needed a double or triple loop, where seniors needed a triple or quad not otherwise specified

junior SPs needed to combine either a double and triple or two triples, where seniors also had the options of combining a quad with a triple or double

junior free skates had thirty fewer seconds and a smaller maximum number of spins than seniors had

so while it took till 2015 (for the short) and 2017 (for the free and combined) for the junior men's records to be higher numbers than the senior records were as of spring 2005? that's because the juniors weren't and aren't allowed to compete with programs that have as high base technical scores as seniors in the same season

and we know Victor in Juniors got in trouble for jumping quads

so it seems entirely plausible that Victor, as of no later than his 2005 Junior Worlds victory, did not actually outscore most of the senior division, but he did prove he could, just by publicly skating a version of his short program that season that had upgraded jumps such that it fit senior but not junior requirements, and a version of his free skate that included that fourth spin

Dying inside because I haven't had any time for personal projects in a few weeks and it's getting to the point where I feel like I might burst inside if I don't get the chance to write something.

I just want enough time to do one of three things: I can borrow someone's code to make a 3D Rubik's cube visual that turns and everything, I can make my Rust code usable from Python, or I can copy someone's notebook from Towards Data Science and figure out how Proximal Policy Optimization works.

Eventually, I want a reinforcement learning environment like the Python gymnasium package but for solving a Rubik's cube and I want to train deep learning models to solve them efficiently. And I want to train a bunch of different architectures. Luckily, with an environment as simple as a Rubik's cube, data generation is easy and we don't have to worry at all about sample efficiency which I guess means that PPO is a great option. What I've found says that PPO is the best and most stable learning method found for reinforcement learning since 2017. I don't know if that's true. I was originally thinking of doing a Double Deep Q-learning Network and following the methods used in the original Dota2 RL paper with experience replay and everything. I like the idea of experience replay because I want to start the training with easy cubes so the model can memorize those. If you start close to the end goal, it would be extremely embarrassing to get it wrong. Plus, you have to start with a lower difficulty so the agent has a chance to sus out the correct answer a few times. If the agent is always getting everything wrong, it will never learn anything. It needs both the positive and negative reinforcement. Then as you give it harder and harder cubes the experience replay keeps the easier cubes fresh so it doesn't unlearn those by accident. Probably don't need anything that sophisticated though. Probably could just build a training set incrementally so that the easy cubes are always present. Train, add cubes, train, add cubes, etc.

Hey Cina, I know the RRR/BBC is rn conversing about Rah/Dira and generational trauma, but can I go Blackwards for a moment to a few of the minor characters. Regarding Hope's pretty but troubled MIL, Miss Mercy, just wanted to ask if we have seen the last of Sean and if we will ever get a backstory glimpse into how that night went, if either got caught up in emotions (they both seem emotionally labile, though I still think if you went that direction it would make for an interesting dynamic due to who Sean is... in more than one person's life.) Plus we've assumed her last time in the problematic penthouse was with you know who. But maybe it wasn't... Also, Amaya's family? Who are they? Will there be a glimpse of them? Has Indya & Darren or DJ for that matter met her family? Hopefully they aren't toxic. Her features and skintone give off a vibe like her parents are from the Caribbean. And now Black to the Future questions: I was also was going to ask if Rah is redeemable, because there tends to be a throw away society mentality towards black men that have "issues" in RL & in books/entertainment so I was hoping he was/is redeemable, but I think I am getting a hint that there may be a move on from Rah and possibly ol' boy Ryke since Dira is young and may not have the same mindset as Hope regarding dating. To conclude, just two observations: How do I know since 2015(?) or was it 2017 that Indie has grown up and embraced her grown-woman-with-children crown? She came to her eldest daughter's house in Jerilee swag: house slippers. :D And not cute bougie ones at that! Plus of course how she is handling Hope's new mom freak outs and Dira and DJ's underdeveloped brain decisions.

2nd Observation: I laugh every time you slip in the official RRR/BBC logo of Raven's knowing look every now and then. :D :D :D

You are absolutely right, and this was a key issue earlier in the story with Darren. You had to be there friend! TABLES WERE THROWN!! HANDS WERE CAUGHT!! It was THE WILD WEST in the BBC™ where on one side, we hated Darren and wanted his ass thrown out for how he treated our girl. There were those who even thought Indya DESERVED it because she was often quite fucking bogus! I had a reckoning with my DAMN self about Darren and decided to write his growth journey which I am STILL writing. In other words, once we decide to throw someone away, we just do it. I wanted to challenge that for many reasons, one of them being the one you stated.

You can imagine, then, that while Rah did something entirely fucked up, I am willing to at least understand (and maybe others are too), that there are factors in his life that may be caused these unfortunate series of events. Imagine having a mom who is never there for you and everyone in your school has seen her sex tape. Not saying these are excuses, just saying....

Anyway, we gotta stay tuned to see if Rahul is a character who even sticks around. Indira is about to have a birthday and she could choose to cut off boffum. We shall see.

Maybe i'm reading this wrong, and if I am, please clarify in another ask but.... how can you NOT know? She's in house slippers (I thought they were cute) because she was there to clean in a full lace front and cute little joggers (Mercy was too except for the lace front). There will always be bougie Indya which is why you will refer to her as Queen Muva around Dem Babies™ lmfao

Oh shit, I connected a thing! I think I follow your RL Twitter. I refuse to call it the new thing, deadnaming that platform forever. Anyhoo you tweeted that you met your spouse due to a piece of Gotham fic you wrote, for real? Which story was it?!

It’s the one called When You Find It, Run. This was in 2017 when it was still in its early chapters, before it became one of the largest extended series in any of my fandoms. Like, WYFIR might just rival Crown of Thorns [The Walls, the Wainscot, and the Mouse] ’Verse (a.k.a. CoT, my longest, arguably best known work in Good Omens fandom) in length.

So, @one-eyed-bossman messaged me because one of my OCs in that fic mentions piñon coffee, a quintessentially New Mexican thing (gets Oswald and Ed hooked on it, but more so on prickly pear jam). Turns out we were both in NM; what were the chances? This state is not that densely populated, let alone with fandom folks. Even weirder, I’d read one of @one-eyed-bossman’s Gotham fics and commented on it mere weeks before.

The story’s a lot more convoluted than that, because we were Just Friends (TM) for a while to such a degree that I was actually in a long distance relationship for a year or so between the time we met and the time we got together (early 2019). Accidental dating, massive denial, the whole nine yards. Quite the drama.

There you have it! Dumbassery worthy of many of my Gotham pairings, if not all. Well, wait, no. That honor has got to belong to Oswald and Ed before it belongs to anyone else; Bruce and Jeremiah sometimes steal the title, though. And I would never have written Darkroom and its follow-ups if not for my now-spouse because it was a birthday present after we both got spitting mad in the wake of watching the episode called “Ace Chemicals.” Anger and love drive my writing like nobody’s business.
