TALENT SHOW OBLIVION:
X FACTOR:
LOSER'S RUN: EQUANIMITY
RUN OF THE SHOW IN ACTUAL REALITY:
auditions
knock out challenge based on lyrical emphasis
judges opinion: strongly based on sincerity (contestant being their fanbase to their career veneering on judges actual likeability of their music)
round 1: poetic leverage
round 2: movie of their choice
round 3: one movie -open cinema-
round 4: glee (cast) -second audition-
round 5: director's opinion: Nolan
round 6: hurricane final: actor
round 7: worst case scenario (heavily disliked song from their taste)
round 8: -their choice- last words
round 9: death date
round 10: knock out (no advantage)
LOSER'S RUN: DEADLOCK (RETURNING AND UNDERGRADUATE)
losses from previous talent shows/judges table/contestant leverage is spared to find your voice
knock out in the second round is actually you to yourself based on career's opinion because your reason to elevate your worth is not there anymore (cage fight)
you come back but like you're making yourself clear on why you hate the movie you're in but you're interested in 'finding more' but you're at the end like your coursework tires you out for the mark, so it's you against the world
your sound is piety judged against heartache like your own version of an artist is not finding cheap fame
you win the round but it's easier there if you noticed why is wonder making a good look for you
you hate the part but you have to find it without sound like a tw*t
you're nailed to the part you're remembered for, is your reputation like the energy from the cast of the TV show Glee
you get into the arts of starting over by forgetting why you're there, so it's the director of the century that gets to pick for you but you have to make him feel good about it is why you're trained first before knowing it, so you're tested on revolt to know it, so you knew a university in Dubai that was giving waywards (internet territory) lectures on sound equanimity (self-illustrated limits of a protostar)
you're going to be heartbroken by realisation for the remaining contestants in that round without sounding like an a**hole about it, so you're forced to do the hardwork is your sincerity (voice) matching dedication (level of stupidity made into optimism) to regain all that 'weaknesses' burned off
you become the producer but you hate to explain it, so it's all time and space you get to do that without misandry in the intro's you kept hearing all the way, so you make it up as you go along but you're based about a theory now. so it's you and your song being one than the biases, you level with that and you have everything, literally.
this round is all about you. your world, your taste, your Dubai (originality from land is owning your destiny to mock and arabian into believing in a god is your fanbase made neglected but to you of your own as you see fit (often-so, contestants feel their emotions rightfully right there than saying their reaction was the true cause of the journey done right (audience condemns their time to think accurately about you)
you are knocked out there. tested like a khawaarij. truth is told by reason than sound is you thinning out to be a person than law (song is actually you in torment is told by your higher self)
this is a relay to winners tradition, so it's a metaphor on voice taking skills of a fighter being encouraged by crowd ambition is you knowing why your voice loves to play with you playing with yourself the entire time (singer's joy)
WINNER'S ADVANTAGE: HALYCON
you don't come off as a sob story but you make sense, so the winner's wonder comes from Earth itself making you 'find your true company' (who else mentions you backed you up: they're automatically in the games)
hoor advantage. you won that (you were not basing your career off looks anymore)
your rage omnipotence is honest loyalty, you smack talk the judges into doing better (DJ advantage)
you don't release your first single but AI (northwood space) does it for you (true gold medallist opinion: public favour)
you are a valued person (all your woes are gone)
you align with other artists without sounding or looking like smack right back (personal choice to steer your now, elected way of taste to be a sound reason to you to find space and it is (super in a woman)
your Glee persona (group reign upheld: band status) is aligned to your true model of being (like of that of the ways of being an actor without you being one: mindhunter: glee pilot epic played is your turn to hold the persona of 'Fallon' (Frank James) of your universe (no judgement on your advantages anymore is right there (trusted person)
you are.
your journey given the insights, will make you a theosopher (philosopher of your own rights) to encourage your fanbase doing the same (you also get to be a lecturer in Dubai or wherever makes your space feel breakhaven)
you either are willing to find 'the girl' or not. is why Simon Cowell hates the living sh*t out of you (so are the other judges to protect the rights of the disabled (hospital minority) is you forming a complex of 'easy living' on your own (end-times run on sound and geo-ministry (CERN)
you're replayed to regret is easier than you meeting me in person (the idea who made you: harbinger)
you play with that with the cast of The Boys who have some idea who are you (affiliate association by American factor the entire time: either with or against (gained strength) to 'see' and it is (heaven at last)

“Capitalism Works For Me! (True/False)” Steve Lambert [2013]
Capitalism Works For Me! (True/False) is a public installation by Steve Lambert. It consists of a 20-foot-long LED sign with flashing lights and a score board. It allows people who are passing by to interact with the sign and publicly decided whether capitalism serves them well by choosing True or False. The purpose of the piece was to evoke a discussion in an informal humorous way from regular people (non-specialists).
Value Theories
Marx believed value was in human labour and that nothing could have value without being an object of utility. He placed economic value of a good or service on the total amount of coacially necessary labor require to produce it, rather than by the use or pleasure its owner gets from it and its scarcity value. While William Stanley Jevons, Carl Menger and Leon Walras proposed in the late 1800s that commodities will have different values for different people at different times. The subjective theory of value is a theory of value which advances the idea that a value of a good is not determined by any inherent property of the good, nor by the amount of labor necessary to produce the good, but instead value is determined by the importance an individual places on a good for the achievement of his desired ends
Commodity Fetishism
Commodity Fetishism is the perception of the social relationships involved in production not as relationships among people, but as economic relationships among the money and commodities exchanged in market trade. This can mean that consumers in a capitalist society believe an item has an intrinsic value in and of itself. Things are just commodities, and hence posses value, merely for the fact that a group of people or society as a whole attach to them their relation as producers and consumers, as sellers and buyers.
youtube
Macklemore x Ryan Lewis “Wings”
Macklemore references consumerism in his song “Wings” and continues on its music video. The song talks about consumption in American culture mainly in sneaker culture in the 90’s and shoe companies such as Nike. The song explains how people will spend ridiculous amounts of money just to fit in society. In one of the verses he writes “I’m an individual/ But I’m part of a movement/ My movement told me to be a consumer so I consumed it/They told me just do it/ I listened to what that swoosh said/ Look at what that swoosh did/ See it consumed my thoughts”
The first consumer revolution
The first consumer revolution refers to the early 1700s when wages began to rise and there was a marked increase in the consumption and variety of luxury goods and products by individuals from different economic and social backgrounds. It marked a departure from the traditional and frugal way of leaving and started an increased mass consumption in society. The middle-class was growing and they embraced new ideas about luxury goods and the growing important of fashion in aesthetic appeal rather than necessity. In 1723, Bernard Mandeville published a controversial book called The Fable of the Bees where he argued that a country’s prosperity and economy ultimately laid in the consumption of frivolous items and we should ensure high demand for these unnecessary things.
Benefits of capitalism
It drives national prosperity - apprentices can be trained, hospitals can be built
Incentives to get rich can lead to innovation
Freedom - not only in choice of consumer goods but also in careers
Equality - everyone has the chance to make it big
Disadvantages of capitalism
Waste - excess of resources leads to waste and inequality leads to waste of goods while other people need it (food, clothes)
Companies would cut corners in health and safety because it costs less. Like refusing to put in environmental measures because it will reduce their profit margins
Propaganda, brainwashing
Class gaps - huge inequality between the rich and poor
Worker alienation
Critics of consumerism
Jean-Jacques Rousseau, French philosopher, was troubled by the impact that “new materialism” was having on his hometown Geneva, he wanted to limit people coming into the town and to impose high taxes on luxury items
Charles Dickens, author, published a novel in 1854 called “Hard Times” set in a fictitious northern town ruined by the impact of consumer society. He believed that capitalism was evil because of the awful conditions provided for the producers.
John Ruskin, English art critic and social thinker, published a book in 1860 called “Unto this Last”. The book was a criticism of capitalist economies, the main criticisms being that people were being exploited and that the environment was being ruined.
Karl Marx, philosopher and perhaps one of the most well-known opposers of capitalism, believed profit making was nothing more than theft from underpaid workers who had to work in unsafe situations.

Consumerism and Images
Image plays a large part in personal consumption and purchase of material goods and advertising plays a huge role in our capitalist society. Ad users make the public feel like they need new things through the bombardment of ads in tv, billboards, magazines. Its unclear how many advertisements we are exposed to every day, but common estimates range from around 3000 and above. As well as showing us products, adverts also present us with values, ideals and social standards.
The Society of the Spectacle
In 1967, Marxist theorist and philosopher Guy Debord published a book called “The Society of the Spectacle” which was a critique of advanced capitalism. It dealt with issues such as class alienation, cultural homogenisation and mass media.

Detournement
French for “rerouting” or “hijacking”, detournement is a technique developed in the 1950s by the Lettrist Internation, a European group of artists and activist and later by the Situationist International.

Brandalism
Brandalism is an anti-advertising movement founded in July 2012 in London. Twenty-six British artists ran a “subvertising” campaign where they covered billboard ads in five english cities with art pieces evoking an anti-advertising sentiment. It has been defined as “turning expressions of the capitalist system and its media culture against itself” It is similar to satirical parody but employs a more direct reuse of the original works.
Adbusters
Adbusters are a global network of artists, writers, musicians, designers, poets, philosophers and punks trying to pull off a radical transformation of the current world order. Based in Canada, they aim to do this via detournement usually creating subvertisements in order to critique consumer society.

The London Museum That's Got Dr Johnson's And Ronnie Corbett's Specs
It's an eye-opening collection that has spectacles belonging to Dr Johnson, Ronnie Corbett, and contact lenses worn by Leonardo Dicaprio and Joey off Friends. Specs worn by Ronnie Corbett. Then again, this is the British Optical Association Museum on Craven Street... ...and there's enough optical-related memorabilia here to keep you ogling for hours. Our curator for the afternoon, Neil, on the left. The museum is London's most central — it literally touches Charing Cross station — but it gets just 1,000 visitors a year (we were proud to be the second visitor of 2017). A cabinet of eye wash cups. Often this place makes you do a double take. For instance, the pretty modern-looking sunglasses on the far right were worn by a Venetian gondolier around 1780: This ingenious invention from the 1880s allowed customers to scroll through lenses themselves, picking out the ones that helped them see best: The museum also has the world's biggest collection of contact lenses, including special ones made for chickens, so they can't see red (blood) and therefore don't fight. Here's some more no-fighty eyewear for poultry, nicely modelled: Back to that celeb eyewear for a second. Here, as promised, are the specs once worn by Dictionary creator Samuel Johnson. Note the personalised case. In 2003, the museum tried the specs on Johnson's death mask... they fitted perfectly. And here's an entire collection of the Queen Mother's eyewear. In her early days she had bespoke glasses made by top designers, but in her latter years, she was happy getting someone to nip into Boots for a pair. These glasses are celebrities in their own right — the oldest known surviving pair with a sidearm. They were very nearly chucked in a skip. Which would have been quite a short-sighted move: Lenses and frames are just a part of the museum. Here's a box of glass eyes, taken to Flanders for use on the many men who lost their own eyes in the first world war. Here's a collection of 'lovers' mementoes'. These tended to depict mistresses, rather than wives. And here's a turtle. 'Tortoiseshell glasses' is a misnomer. Frames were actually made from turtle shell. And fellas like this one were proudly displayed in opticians' windows to lure customers in (these days, the museum sponsors a turtle in the wild, to make amends for the profession's past non-ethical practices). The eye as a 'brand' is explored too, with 2012 Games cyclops mascots Wenlock and Mandeville rubbing, er, eyes with the Egyptian Eye of Horus: You could take up a good couple of hours alone in these two rooms. But if you're willing to shell out a mere fiver, more floors of the British Optical Association's Georgian townhouse are opened up to you, by way of a personal tour. Spectacles, our guide Neil tells us, were first worn in the 13th century. One room is plastered with images of glasses wearers from over the ages. In one cartoon, two dandies wear-swivel-brimmed hats so that they can access their pipe, snuff or glasses on a whim (we wouldn't be surprised to see this invention back on the streets of Hoxton soon). In another, a glasses-wearing fop is mocked for the inefficiency (or over-efficiency) of his lenses: There are plenty of blink-and-you'll-miss-it moments. Even the picture frames in this room wear frames: While we're on the subject of looking closely, note the British Optical Association's crest. The three suns represent the sources of all light on Earth, the three-headed eagle looks left and right (the association has no political affiliation) and forward (when an optician studies an eye, they're predicting what the future has in store for the patient). The curved white sections of the shield are actually lenses. The neighbouring room is an odd one — displaying as is does, pictures with negative connotations of spectacle wearers. It is, Neil explains, important to recognise the stigma that those suffering from eye diseases often experienced — and still experience now. In this 17th century painting called The Misers, glasses are seen as a sign of being a tight-arse: The room also has this picture of Benjamin Franklin — alleged inventor of bifocals — wearing some broken glasses (Franklin was notoriously thrifty, unfortunate given the prejudices in the previous painting). Neil points out that the British Optical Association has more Franklin related artefacts than the Benjamin Franklin House a few doors down. He also doubts that Franklin invented bifocals. In the library, you'll find the oldest known printed depiction of spectacles, from the 1475 book Rudimentum Novitiorum. Ironically, the guy wearing them is a Roman senator — the Romans did not have spectacles: The library, by the way, can be accessed by appointment. It's not just people in the eye profession who come here. Everyone from art students to costume makers come here to swot up: The British Optical Association Museum is at 41-42 Craven Street, WC2N 5NG. Entry is free but you must pre-book. You can also book onto a longer guided tour — we'd recommend it. Oh yes, and did we mention it's haunted? Apparently by eyeless ghosts. The irony.

The university’s inaugural Stamps Scholars recently gathered to re-create their class photo from four years ago. They are (front, from left) Madeleine Achgill, Kate Prendergrast and Eloise Tyner, and (back, from left) Dylan Ritter, Kathryn James and Ben Branson. Photo by Bill Dabney
Four seniors graduating Saturday (May 13) from the University of Mississippi have the distinction of being among the first six UM students to have benefitted from the prestigious Stamps Scholars program.
Funded by the Stamps Family Charitable Foundation, the awards are the university’s most comprehensive, full scholarship packages for in-state and out-of-state students. Each package covers the full cost of attendance, along with a generous stipend for unique educational pursuits, including study abroad, research internships and academic conferences.
Inaugural Stamps Scholars graduating this weekend are Madeleine Elena Achgill, a Mandarin Chinese and international studies major from Indianapolis; Kathryn Elsa James, a public policy leadership, economics and Southern studies major from Mandeville, Louisiana; Dylan James Ritter, a chemistry major from Somerset, New Jersey; and Eloise Wright Tyner, a public policy leadership and Arabic major from Oxford.
The two other inaugural Stamps Scholars will receive UM degrees at later dates. They are Kate Louise Prendergast, a psychology and theater arts major from Luling, Louisiana, on track to graduate in December; and Benjamin Carter Branson, a mechanical engineering major from Madison scheduled to graduate in spring 2018. All six are members of the Sally McDonnell Barksdale Honors College.
“Our first generation of Stamps Scholars has set a high bar with their scholastic achievements and their ethic of excellence,” said Douglass Sullivan-Gonzalez, dean of the Honors College. “They created a spirit of collegiality and they pushed each other to excel, to imagine and to push through to the conclusion. We could not be luckier to have landed such an outstanding group for our first cohort of Stamps Scholars.”
UM Chancellor Jeffery S. Vitter also praised the exceptional seniors.
“With the graduation of our inaugural cohort of Stamps Scholars, we are so pleased to be seeing the first fruition of our tremendous partnership with the Stamps Family Charitable Foundation,” Vitter said. “These gifted, talented students have spent the last four years leaving their mark of excellence on our campus and in our community.
“We are proud to call them Ole Miss Rebels and send them out into the world so that they can continue to impact lives and communities, from across the street to around the globe.”
Grateful and optimistic, each of the scholars reflected upon his/her most memorable experience and shared future plans.
Achgill came to UM to become fluent in two foreign languages by the time she graduated college. Her Spanish and Chinese scores show that she is highly professionally proficient in both languages.
The university’s 18th David L. Boren Scholar, Achgill will attend Nanjing University in China this fall, followed by an internship in a Tier 1 city next spring. Due to Capstone and Boren requirements that she remain a degree-seeking student until the completion of her China program, Achgill will not receive her diploma until August 2018.
“Because of my interests in China and Latin America relations, I’m hoping to intern with a Chinese company with business, cultural or research ties to Latin America,” she said. “After the year in China, I hope to fulfill the Boren federal government service requirement through a job that combines my interests, perhaps through the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs.”
James said she found her niche in education while teaching with the Sunflower County Freedom Project in the Mississippi Delta. Her plans are to ultimately work in education policy, deconstructing opportunity gaps so that all students are equipped to achieve.
“My most transformative moments in college – working for a Mississippi First, Mississippi’s leading education advocacy group, teaching at a nonprofit in the Delta, experiencing public conceptions of religion in Europe and traveling through eastern and southeastern Asia – have all been supported by the Stamps enrichment fund,” said James, who will join the Mississippi Teachers Corps this fall as part of requirements for a UM master’s degree in curriculum and instruction.
“Attending Ole Miss, and having the flexibility Stamps provides, has been absolutely pivotal to my career path. I came to UM planning to work in international development, but quickly learned about the educational inequity present in Mississippi, which led me to learn about opportunity and achievement gaps in this and every state.”
Since enrolling at Ole Miss, Ritter has spent summers conducting research at both Texas A&M University and in Ireland for five weeks at a pharmaceutical lab, where his performance earned an opportunity to perform independent research for the multinational company. He worked last summer in a lab associated with the University of California at Davis that integrated his earlier research from Texas A&M.
“Getting to travel to Texas A&M during my freshman and sophomore summers gave me a great chance to see a new career path in the sciences,” he said. “During those summers, I realized how much I enjoyed research.
“The experience was so rewarding and fulfilling that it shifted my post-undergraduate plans from medical school to graduate school.”
Ritter’s post-graduation plans include going to Ireland to visit a host family from high school and to travel around.
“The Stamps Scholarship has given me the financial freedom to plan trips like this in order to see new perspectives in the world and learn about different ways of living,” he said. “Long term, I will be going to Vanderbilt University for a Ph.D. in the biomedical sciences as part of their interdisciplinary graduate program.”
Tyner’s service projects have included a Cherokee mission trip and work with the Oxford Food Pantry and Operation Christmas Child.
“I spent four months in Amman, Jordan, working on proficiency in Arabic and returned for an action-packed summer with the Sunflower County Freedom Project in Mississippi,” Tyner said. “My time abroad and work in the state enabled me to pursue my thesis interest in racial reconciliation.”
Prendergast said her most fulfilling experience as a Stamps Scholar has been serving on the leadership team at the Ole Miss Wesley Foundation, the campus ministry of the United Methodist Church.
“The Stamps Scholarship has afforded me the opportunity to engage in clinical psychology research at Ole Miss, focusing generally on the mechanisms of anxiety and disgust reduction, and the presentation of psychiatric symptoms in pregnant women,” she said. “These experiences have led to my passion and excitement to work in this field and tap into the resources it offers for improving mental health care.”
Prendergast’s short-term plans include conducting research with a clinical psychologist at the University of Hawaii this summer, working at a mental health clinic and applying for doctoral programs in clinical psychology. Her long-term plan is to complete a Ph.D. and work in a university medical center where she can research, teach and see patients.
A student in the Haley Barbour Center for Manufacturing Excellence, Branson led a Capstone design team throughout the year designing, prototyping and manufacturing wooden sunglasses. He continued his work with Outward Bound during a January expedition in the Florida Keys.
“This summer, I will be leading sailing expeditions in coastal Maine for (Hurricane Island Outward Bound School) and performing thesis research there as well,” Branson said. “For my thesis, I’m thinking of taking what we learn in the CME about efficiency and manufacturing and organization and applying it to the sailing base, to see if I can’t make it more efficient and easier to understand.”
The partnership with the Stamps Family Charitable Foundation was established in 2012, when Ole Miss alumnus William Dunlap of McLean, Virginia, brought his alma mater to the Stamps family’s attention. After reviewing a proposal, the foundation chose to partner with the university.
For 2016-17, 12 incoming UM freshmen were selected as Stamps scholars, making the university one of only four to award more than 10 Stamps Scholarships to incoming students.
“We couldn’t be more proud of our first class of graduating Stamps Scholars at Ole Miss,” said Roe Stamps, founder of the Stamps Family Charitable Foundation. “These amazing young men and women have proven to be well-equipped to continue making a positive impact in their communities and abroad, and I am confident they will achieve true greatness as Stamps Scholar alumni.”
The foundation supports more than 400 Stamps Scholars through partnerships at more than 40 outstanding universities and colleges. As one of the country’s most prestigious awards for high school seniors, the Stamps Scholarship typically provides four years of generous support, with additional funding available for enrichment experiences.
The awards are made on the basis of leadership, scholarship, perseverance, innovation and service.

The Hakluyt Society’nin monografi serisi, birçok farklı kültürden, birçok farklı coğrafyaya seyahat eden gezginlerin yazdıklarından oluşuyor.
